00:00 game. I'll let you guys ask the questions.
00:04 Just for them to get the stops as you've been preaching for you know the
00:09 last four games and four quarters just how what kind of progress does that show
00:13 that this team is making? Yeah I mean I think that regardless of what's going on
00:20 during the game you know they started out so hot and we kept our composure and
00:27 then as you said when it mattered we got some big stops. Down the stretch
00:34 that's we were talking about that and the hot-o-leg outers we're talking about it
00:38 and a couple times we gave up some offensive rebounds but those are stops
00:45 too initially at least so it's good to see. Coach last two games 299 points
00:54 collectively give me your thoughts on the offense and those type of points.
01:00 Really the thoughts I have are more about our defense. That's a lot of points
01:08 obviously the other team scored a lot of points too and as I said I think to the
01:15 extent you can score a lot of points and still try to really have a defensive
01:19 mindset that that's hard because if you're scoring the ball you know every
01:23 possessions doesn't seem quite as important because you're scoring. I'm not
01:28 saying I don't want to score but I think that's going to continue to be the
01:32 emphasis for us.
01:35 Can you talk about your bigs that I was playing in?
01:37 I was both at double doubles and Yank had that big block at the end just what they contributed tonight?
01:41 You know you said that those two guys to get double doubles and they're not in
01:47 the game at the same time so it shows one you know how well they played
01:54 individually and also I think it's indicative of how well they play off
01:59 each other and how much they support each other and encourage each other.
02:03 They're truly happy for one another's success.
02:09 Coach DeAndre Hunter flies behind the radar sometimes. Just curious what do you see about him tonight?
02:15 Well he was a man. What he does you see what he does you know defensively on the
02:25 ball but sometimes what you don't see is how he impacts the play off the ball
02:30 really for him to go to the basket as strong as he did tonight to be as
02:37 aggressive taking a shot those are that's what he works on that's not
02:45 to discount other parts of his game but when you see him attacking the rim the
02:49 way he did that gives us a big boost and it's really I think indicative of who
02:55 he is as a player when he's that aggressive.
02:58 Coach, could you address Trey Young's overtime period? He really struggled shooting in the second third and
03:04 fourth quarters and then still had the confidence to kind of take over in
03:09 overtime and take the big shot. Yeah I think that's obviously something one of
03:16 Trey's strengths. He does want those opportunities in close games. I thought
03:24 you know the other part of it today too is you know he was at his best he was
03:28 doing that and then he also was able to find other people. That's key for us.
03:34 So of course you know the confidence with some of those threes and we've seen
03:41 him do that. I've seen him do it. He did it last year. He does it this year. I think his
03:46 willingness to do that and then also his willingness you know if they aren't
03:51 double teaming or things like that to get off in a lead up against make plays is a big
03:55 big thing for us. Quinn, that overtime period kind of became
04:00 Trey versus Mikael especially trading baskets back and forth. Is that just kind
04:04 of the expectation in the NBA when you got you know two essentially each team's
04:09 best player going at each other? I wouldn't boil it down to that. I think those things happen at certain points but you know the shot fake and then
04:20 seeing he drops the ball to Hunt on a closeout and Hunt scores. I mean you know to be able to
04:27 continue to defend as a group I think for us is the most important thing.
04:33 Coach, you've mentioned a few times this season that you want the guys to get up as many
04:37 three-point shots as possible throughout the game. We've seen Trey over the last
04:41 few games that they are beginning to fall more for him. We've seen that from
04:44 Bogie as well. Do you feel like as a unit the guys are finally kind of getting to
04:48 where you want them to be as far as attempts per game and then actually
04:51 being efficient from behind the three-point line? I mean if we could shoot 50 a game
04:54 that'd be great. You know we didn't quite get there tonight but I think that the
05:00 type of threes that we want is really important. You know when we move the ball, when we pass the
05:07 ball ahead there's an expectation that starts to get created that guys are
05:11 going to be aggressive with those shots and it also allows us opportunities to
05:15 rebound. Sometimes when you pass that shot up you know the possession becomes much
05:22 harder so it's worth three not two. The biggest thing I think is you have to be
05:30 willing to miss. You know you can't get hung up if the ball's not going in on a
05:36 given night. That doesn't mean you don't go to the basketball. That's great too.
05:41 What I really mean is just having the confidence to take those shots I think
05:45 also opens other things up not just for you but for your teammates.
05:50 Playing 10 steals tonight I'm just kind of curious about finding that balance
05:55 between maybe going after the ball when you're in one-on-one situations versus
05:59 maybe trying to drive a guy toward getting somebody to come over and help.
06:02 Yeah I mean I think sometimes you go after the ball when you're beat and
06:08 that's usually not the best time, the best thing to do is to talk and receive
06:14 help. I don't like us gambling and we do that sometimes in transition
06:22 situations. You know there are, can't say never do that. Guys have to be smart
06:29 because you know we'll make some plays too but really having confidence in your
06:35 help I think is a big part of that if you do get beat where you don't just put
06:40 somebody in line and foul unnecessarily. Sometimes those are three-point plays.
06:45 You know they're not fouls that really achieve anything.
