WATCH: Clint Capela Post-Game Press Conference After Loss to the Denver Nuggets
Transcript
00:00 for you guys to be in so many close games.
00:02 How do you guys continue to move forward and compete?
00:05 I would just try to keep that mindset to always fighting
00:09 until the end of the game.
00:10 Doesn't matter which situation you are in.
00:12 Today, we felt that obviously we just like keeping playing.
00:17 When we got hot, it really woke up the whole arena
00:21 and us at the same time.
00:22 And we really felt that we could get back in this game.
00:25 You have to believe.
00:26 I mean, how energizing?
00:28 You talked about it a little bit, but how energizing is it to see a guy
00:31 hit 10 three-pointers, a career high,
00:33 to kind of fire you guys down the stretch?
00:36 Insane. I love it, especially for Boden,
00:38 because he's the guy that I always see in the weight room with me after games.
00:44 He's always the guy that I see after practice, get more reps
00:47 than everyone. So he deserves it.
00:50 I don't feel like he's skipping steps.
00:52 He's doing everything right.
00:53 And he deserves it.
00:56 I know that when I see 10 threes, when I see him making threes in a row,
01:00 I know that this is because it's perfect work.
01:03 I know we're about a little past the quarter where you're from the season here.
01:08 And there's been a lot of ups and downs so far this year.
01:11 Is this something that I know there are some high hopes coming into the season?
01:15 Is this something that should have been expected or just what are your thoughts on?
01:17 Yeah, I just think that nobody's going to feel sorry for us.
01:20 My first year here, I think we were 11-20 and we finished with like 10 games
01:27 10 games difference between wins and losses.
01:29 So I think that we have to keep that mindset
01:32 by trying to get it better one game at a time.
01:35 You have to you have to you have to stay the course.
01:38 It's still a long season and we have to strive to get better.
01:42 And this this has it has to stay like that.
01:46 And the other thing is, can you can you just kind of comment on the commotion there?
01:51 There were three straight technicals during the timeout.
01:54 Just what you saw and what you heard.
01:55 Yeah, I just feel that happened pretty fast.
01:57 So Trey, like so like maybe speaking to the ref,
02:02 it's just you got a technical coach, you got one.
02:05 Yeah, I think we maybe got a little tight in this moment, in that moment.
02:10 I think De'An was on the bench, so I don't really know what has been said.
02:14 But yeah, like I said, obviously it was unfortunate that it happened.
02:19 But I really like that we kept that mindset
02:23 by keeping playing and hitting shots and giving ourselves
02:27 a chance to get back to this game at the end.
02:29 Hey, Clint, can you give us perspective on what it was like
02:34 going against the big men of the Nuggets?
02:36 It seems like they they did outclass us in rebounding points in the paint
02:39 and blocks and just what they do well, maybe what you guys can do better moving forward.
02:43 Yeah, I was feeling that I was
02:46 a lot of time I was caught in the top of the key.
02:49 And I was I was in a position to go help, especially when Jokic
02:54 is like literally bringing the ball up and throwing the ball in the paint.
02:57 So I found myself always, I feel like behind the action.
03:00 But I mean, this team is still a championship team.
03:07 We improved it.
03:08 And yet tonight, I mean, yeah, Aaron Gordon did also a great job on the glass.
03:14 And yeah, they give themselves
03:18 a chance by going to the glass and get extra possession.
03:21 Clint, we're talking a lot about the team, but I want to talk about you
03:25 personally and your mindset coming into these games, because last game
03:28 you had a double double against NB tonight, Jeff, 15 and eight.
03:31 So for you, when it comes to rising to the occasion to these elite big men,
03:35 you seem to have your biggest games.
03:36 What is it for you coming into these games?
03:38 Are you, you know, man, you rise to the occasion?
03:41 Yeah, I mean, I've been playing these guys for a couple of years now,
03:44 and I know that I have to have that mindset by just making the job tougher
03:49 for them, for them. They don't make shots.
03:52 They're going to get the ball on the offense,
03:55 like maybe more than 50% of the time or every single time.
03:59 They're going to get shots.
04:00 They're going to probably want to get the fouls they want.
04:03 Even though I don't. Yeah, it's just the way it is.
04:05 I just have to, I just have to, you know, just like stay focused in the game
04:11 and know that I have multiple fouls to use and just be smart or somebody.
04:15 Clint, for you guys, you had an 11 point lead coming out of the first quarter.
04:21 Just what is the next step for you guys to be able to maintain leads
04:25 and close out games?
04:26 Yeah, I know that, especially for the starting lineup,
04:28 it felt good that we for six minutes came up with the lead.
04:34 And yeah, obviously, we have to try to stay the course
04:37 and just stick to the plan.
04:40 I think it's going to be our next step for us.
04:43 But to start the game in the right mindset with the lead
04:47 whenever the bench comes in, it's a great start for us.
04:51 This is what we need from our starters.
