00:00 Kylie has been a shelter dog for a total of three years.
00:02 She always greets you at her kennel door with a toy in her mouth.
00:05 Wait for me.
00:07 To my knowledge, she hasn't had any break from the shelter.
00:12 You look so sad.
00:13 There are no people that are interested in adopting her and she hasn't had any applications.
00:17 She had a difficult pregnancy.
00:22 She needed a C-section and her family couldn't afford that.
00:25 They surrendered her to the shelter so that she could get the medical care that she needed.
00:29 Luckily, all her puppies were pelty.
00:31 They all went on to find homes, but Kylie, for whatever reason, just wasn't able to find the right fit.
00:36 Occasionally, shelters will transfer a dog to another city just to see if they have better
00:43 luck in another area.
00:45 So after she was in Spokane for a year, they transferred her to the Benton Franklin Humane
00:48 Society in Kennewick.
00:50 You are so pretty.
00:51 Hey!
00:53 That's my Kylie girl.
00:55 I've been volunteering with the society for the last two years, so I've known her for
00:59 two years.
01:00 I've been a volunteer at Animal Shelter since I was 13 years old.
01:03 I really wanted to be a veterinarian, but I suck at science and math and so this wasn't
01:07 going to happen for me.
01:08 So I'll sit in the kennel with her.
01:12 Rachel will sit with me.
01:13 She likes getting pets.
01:15 It's tough for her because she doesn't get as much people time as she would like.
01:19 So let's play fetch.
01:20 It's always great to have extra volunteers because then they can get outside even more.
01:25 She's so excited.
01:26 Otherwise, they are stuck in their kennels usually for around 22 hours a day.
01:29 Kylie!
01:30 I love it when she has her pink pig in the kennel with her.
01:33 Kylie, look what I got you!
01:35 She likes toys and I try to stop by the pet store on my way to the shelter and I always
01:39 try to get her an extra toy.
01:40 Are you so excited?
01:43 And then you can hear it squeak from like all the way across the shelter.
01:47 They have her listed as a shepherd mix, but she's got a little bit of like a boxer face.
01:51 I've been trying to get someone to get her a doggy DNA kit because I want to do an embark
01:55 test on her to see what she is.
02:01 When she was pregnant, she had a prolapse.
02:03 So she can only have sensitive tummy treats.
02:06 What you got today, huh?
02:08 Sit!
02:09 Good girl!
02:10 It was interesting to hear that she actually lived on a farm.
02:12 But then I think after the experience that she's had at the shelter, she's kind of gotten
02:16 to where she doesn't really like other animals.
02:18 I think that is 90% of the reason why she hasn't found a home because most animal lovers
02:22 have a dog or a cat.
02:24 So to find someone that fits Kylie's needs is really tough.
02:27 She's really comfortable meeting new people.
02:29 I took my niece to the shelter and she loved meeting them.
02:32 She was just like, "Oh, people, you know, this is cool."
02:34 I'm just going to do circles.
02:37 I wish that there was a foster available for her.
02:39 Our whole area has a huge pet overpopulation problem.
02:43 She's very, very lucky to be at this shelter because one of the other shelters that's in
02:47 our area, she would have been euthanized by now.
02:49 I really think she deserves an absolutely amazing home and I hope that she can get that
02:53 soon.
02:54 I'm going to get you a home.
02:55 Yeah!
