00:00 Hello.
00:01 She's completely blind.
00:02 Her mom abandoned her.
00:04 Poor little monkey.
00:05 Good boy.
00:06 I am Elizabeth, and this is Roxy's story for GeoBeats.
00:09 She don't even look like a...
00:10 What, couldn't you look like a...
00:11 You know, apple-head chihuahua?
00:13 I got a call from a person that follows my rescue page.
00:16 Roxy was by herself.
00:17 She wasn't with anybody else.
00:18 I know. It's okay.
00:20 She just wants to snuggle.
00:22 I really think mom...
00:23 She couldn't keep up with mom.
00:24 She couldn't follow her because she couldn't see.
00:26 Oh my goodness, who's sleeping?
00:28 Who's gonna just go right to sleep?
00:31 Who's gonna go to sleep?
00:32 My mama.
00:33 A lot of animals, as sad as it sounds,
00:34 mother nature can be cruel.
00:36 They will abandon their babies if they're disabled,
00:39 and they're going to keep them from raising their other babies.
00:41 The cutest little baby draco in the world.
00:44 Oh, she was probably one of the worst cases I've ever seen,
00:47 where she didn't have any muscle mass on her,
00:49 no fat or anything.
00:50 Oh, you're so darn cute.
00:54 She was walking down a busy neighborhood.
00:56 Somebody almost ran her over.
00:57 They grabbed her.
00:58 I was very thankful that these people found her.
01:00 When I picked Roxy up, her eyes were bulging out of her head,
01:03 so I knew something was going on.
01:05 Her lenses, they're floating in her eyes,
01:07 where she will never see again.
01:09 I know.
01:11 I think you should just want to snuggle.
01:13 Mm-hmm.
01:14 She's perfectly happy and content,
01:16 normal raccoon, but she can't even see a shadow.
01:18 She's so good. Look at her.
01:21 When I have her in an enclosure, she knows her surroundings.
01:24 But when I take her out of that environment
01:26 and I put her in a new area,
01:27 she doesn't know any of the surroundings.
01:29 So that's why she will bump into things.
01:31 Oh, darn.
01:32 She is half her size that she should be.
01:34 Animals, when they seem to have a disability,
01:36 they don't grow at the rate of a regular raccoon.
01:39 Now, I don't know why that is,
01:40 but the vets even said she's like a dwarf.
01:42 We got sodium chloride.
01:44 You know, she's the cutest.
01:46 Look at her. Look at those eyes.
01:48 She wouldn't be able to survive in the wild on her own
01:50 without being able to see.
01:52 She'll be an ambassador here.
01:53 I have to give her medication every day,
01:55 and it will be for the rest of her life.
01:56 Oh, it's okay. I'm not gonna hurt you.
02:00 Oh, your little foot.
02:01 Oh, I can't get enough of you.
