WATCH: Everything From Quin Snyder After Loss to Kings
Transcript
00:00 >> Had moments where we were really good.
00:02 Our execution late, thought we went through a dry spell in the third quarter
00:08 where we missed some shots, had a few turnovers.
00:12 And they cut in the lead, but we got the lead back.
00:17 And our execution on both ends of the floor let us down in the fourth quarter.
00:25 >> Quinn, how do you not let these close games that you guys have been in and
00:29 competed in over the last month or so, kind of get to you guys and
00:34 maybe hope to not break the spirit?
00:36 >> Well, we have to understand why, and
00:44 then we can focus on that and work on it.
00:46 And we have to be mentally tough with the whole thing.
00:53 And again, it's not super complicated when you see some of the shots we're getting,
01:01 some of the breakdowns defensively.
01:03 And we gotta communicate with each other as much as anything to get that execution.
01:09 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:15 >> Coach, I know you kind of mentioned it already, but
01:16 were you happy with some of the looks the guys were getting in that fourth quarter?
01:20 Was it more they just weren't making shots or was it kind of the King's defense?
01:23 >> I thought we, obviously through the meat of the game,
01:27 we got some really good looks in the third quarter I mentioned.
01:30 When they made a run on us, it was both open looks and
01:36 the shots and also some turnovers.
01:38 Late, again, our execute,
01:42 you don't know where the shots are gonna come obviously all the time.
01:45 But open threes are good, the rim is good, and playing off each other.
01:53 But whatever it is we're doing, getting organized,
01:59 but then having the mentality is the biggest thing for us.
02:05 And that's our execution.
02:06 So it's not one thing, it's collective, and it's not one thing,
02:12 not one guy, it's not one thing, we just have to grind through it.
02:17 >> In the first half, it did seem like the ball movement was good and
02:22 you guys were getting even better looks.
02:24 Just what did you see from the ball movement as far as maybe
02:27 BJ's aggressiveness to open things up for you guys?
02:30 >> Yeah, I think I said that the majority of the game,
02:34 there's times later in the game, the game's gonna slow down.
02:38 And making plays to one another is key.
02:41 They were trapping Trey, he was getting off it.
02:43 We had some opportunities and weren't able to convert.
02:48 And then the key thing is to defend, to continue to defend and
02:53 hopefully get some things where you're not playing against a set defense.
02:58 And take advantage of that, but we have to get stops to do that.
03:01 >> Coach, I wanted to ask you about Clint Capelli,
03:03 he had another double-double tonight.
03:05 And he contains a bonus when it comes to rebound.
03:07 Just talk about his play and
03:08 how he continues to elevate when it comes to playing these big caliber men.
03:13 >> Yeah, he did a really good job.
03:14 And his pick and roll defense, we asked him to do a lot of things.
03:20 To impact the ball and still be in a position to guard us a bonus.
03:26 And then when Fox got going, we asked him to trap the ball.
03:29 And that's what I'm, when we're in those situations with the,
03:35 when we're trapping, get it out of someone's hands or to impact them.
03:39 That becomes a collective effort.
03:42 And we just have to be sharper in those situations.
03:46 But Clint did a really good job.
03:47 >> I was just kind of curious with Patty, he had some good matchups tonight.
03:53 I was curious, what about the Kings?
03:54 Is it that they're just a little smaller at the backcourt that makes it a better
03:58 matchup for him?
03:59 >> Yeah, it felt like there was a point where we felt like Darren Fox is good.
04:06 And if we could just make it hard for him.
04:09 And that's what we wanted to see from Patty.
04:11 And then he spaces and gives us energy and knocked down the shot tonight.
04:14 So we have a number of guys that have to be ready to play at given times.
04:21 We play Clint and Osum together.
04:24 Our rotations and substitutions, sometimes it's nice to have a rhythm.
04:30 Where guys have an expectation about when they're going in,
04:32 when they're coming out.
04:33 But we don't have that luxury all the time.
04:37 And the game is gonna dictate a lot of those things.
04:39 And tonight, we felt like Patty, we were playing Mitchell as well.
04:44 So he was able to really, to compete, he always competes.
04:51 And that's the thing that he gives us.
04:53 >> Thanks, coach.
