00:00 People labeled him as a villain or this horrible mean monster.
00:04 He was in the shelter for two years.
00:06 When he got a toy, it was like Christmas or like the best day ever.
00:10 I'm Rachel. This is Green Bean's story for GeoWeek.
00:15 Green Bean was rescued in 2021 from a dog fighting ring.
00:20 He was rescued with 32 other dogs.

00:30 I've been a volunteer at this shelter a little over two years now.
00:34 Green Bean, I don't know why, I was just drawn to him.
00:36 I remember one day, it was pouring rain.
00:38 I'm like, I don't really want to go to the shelter today, but I want to go for this dog.
00:42 So I made the trip out.
00:44 There was no one there.
00:45 Just me and this dog playing around and it was like a nice moment.
00:49 [Dog barking]
00:51 For two years, Green Bean was not adopted, I believe because of his background.
00:56 He was always smiling with anybody.
00:58 He was in the shelter for two years.
01:00 That's just crazy to me, like an animal in the shelter for two years and still be happy to see you.
01:05 He would just come, wag his tail and just literally smiling.
01:09 That's what his greeting was, like would come up and just smile.
01:14 I did take him off campus and he loved it.
01:16 [Music]
01:20 [Gasp]
01:21 He really enjoyed smelling the trees and did a great job on the leash.
01:25 People keep on judging, saying this dog is scary.
01:28 I never felt unsafe with him, ever, ever.
01:30 [Laughter]
01:32 What the heck?
01:33 What are you doing, silly?
01:35 At that moment, I'm like, wow, I'm so grateful to even be able to know you.
01:39 I think he trusted me and I trusted him.
01:41 I remember he was sleeping one time and I would like come around the kennel
01:46 and he automatically woke up.
01:47 He knew that I was taking him out.
01:49 [Music]
01:54 He's a cute boy.
01:56 Do you like playing?
01:57 [Music]
02:01 I think that a lot of people don't give these dogs the chance
02:04 because they're just, honestly, I think they're afraid.
02:06 [Laughter]
02:08 I think they're afraid of the behavior and I think that pit bulls get a very bad reputation globally.
02:16 So I think that they're almost hesitant to adopt these animals
02:19 and they're the sweetest animals.
02:21 [Music]
02:26 People just automatically will think, oh, pit bull, they're aggressive.
02:29 They're really not.
02:30 I think it's how you train them.
02:31 [Laughter]
02:32 I know how to pull.
02:33 [Music]
02:36 Somebody adopted Greenby.
02:37 I think it's a good match.
02:39 You can give him all the attention, all the treats, all the pets, all the toys.
02:43 [Music]
02:46 Is that for you?
02:47 [Dog barking]
02:49 Are you going home?
02:50 Whoever has him is very lucky.
02:52 Don't drink it.
02:53 I miss that man.
02:54 I always think about him.
02:55 Greenby, I'm happy for you and I really hope we get you reunited one day.
02:58 [Music]
03:00 I miss you.
