WATCH: Everything From Quin Snyder After Hawks Overtime Win Over Philadelphia

00:00 And first, I thought the way that Trey started the game,
00:06 he just controlled the game, got people involved.
00:09 I don't think he scored in the finale game, he had four assists.
00:12 And that shows, I think, his mindset.
00:20 And it's been that way, tonight was really visible.
00:24 And him trusting his teammates, and
00:28 then DJ in the same vein to make that pass to Jalen on three.
00:37 Tonight was about us trusting each other and competing collectively like that.
00:43 And we got stops late, and that connectivity is really important.
00:51 And I thought both Trey and DJ leading the way with that,
00:56 and the two of them together as well, managing the game for us down the stretch.
01:03 >> Hey, coach, to follow that up, what in the course of the game could
01:09 potentially make the idea of trusting each other a little bit difficult?
01:12 >> I mean, think about your own life.
01:16 It happens to me when I'm driving, when I come into near accidents,
01:23 my butt feels like this all the time.
01:25 So there's a lot of things that can happen.
01:27 And frankly, adversity in any part of life,
01:32 particularly on the court in competition, that's something that is not easy.
01:41 And it's something that you work at, and it's something we have worked at.
01:46 I think the same thing shows in the defense, and I mean, not perfect, but
01:51 particularly when we needed it.
01:53 There's one loose ball, I can recall, that I felt like we had.
01:58 But as far as defensive glass and coming up with balls and everything,
02:01 this was a really good collective effort.
02:04 >> And throughout the season,
02:07 you've just seen Jalen's confidence just continue to rise and rise and rise.
02:11 For him to take that last shot, that three,
02:13 just what does it say about his growth and his mindset this season?
02:17 >> Yeah, I think the important thing about that tonight,
02:20 the notable thing I should say, is that he didn't have his best game
02:24 the other night against Orlando.
02:27 And it's something that we talked about,
02:30 that he owned that and then let it go.
02:36 And it's no different than missing a shot.
02:39 You take the next one, and he knows how much confidence I have in him, and
02:44 he could feel tonight his teammates' confidence in him.
02:47 When EJ makes that pass, he's basically telling him to shoot.
02:51 And no hesitation whatsoever, and that's part of becoming a really good player.
02:58 And that's what he wants to do.
03:00 And I think the thing about Jalen's development is we've all seen things
03:06 that his teammates have seen, the coaching staff, you guys, they get you excited.
03:11 But you also can forget, I don't know how many minutes a game Jalen's played up
03:16 until this year, but it's not 30.
03:21 And so he's a young player, and you keep that in mind.
03:26 And I say that because him playing the way he did tonight,
03:30 letting the game come to him, and playing both ends of the floor, and
03:35 impacting the game in various ways, and
03:37 then obviously having a chance to knock down an open shot at a big time.
03:42 >> Sorry, do you want me to cut you off?
03:44 >> No.
03:45 >> But in terms of him and Onyeka, just their stops down the stretch,
03:49 particularly some of those big blocks,
03:51 just what have they been working on throughout this season to be in the right
03:54 place at the right time?
03:55 >> Yeah, I mean, I think that's, you can ask them, that's every day.
03:59 That's being committed to working on those things and drilling those things,
04:05 whether it's live against each other in certain situations,
04:10 or sometimes when you're not able to practice as much live.
04:15 It's in a drill set.
04:16 And so those habits, when we're focused like that,
04:21 and they both play with a lot of urgency.
04:23 And that's what you saw, being in the right place and
04:28 then also recognizing those situations and being able to react instinctively.
04:33 >> You got to the line 42 times in this game, and also a lot of times after the rim.
04:39 Was that a point of emphasis, especially with the beat out?
04:41 Was it just attacking down the hill as a mindset?
04:44 >> Yeah, I think when we're playing our best basketball,
04:47 the ball is touching the paint.
04:51 And at the same time, if we have kick aheads for early threes,
04:56 we wanna take those.
04:57 But when we break the defense down and get in the paint,
05:01 I thought we did a great job tonight of keeping our feet and
05:05 not turning the ball over when we got in there.
05:07 I don't know how many turnovers we had on the game.
05:10 But that's against a team that leads the league in force of turnovers.
05:16 If you are driving the ball,
05:17 some of those interior passes for us have been deflected at times.
05:21 So yeah, you wanna drive the ball.
05:24 And I thought our guys did a good job.
05:27 I thought it was a physical game, particularly in the first half.
05:31 And I thought we did a good job of keeping our composure and
05:37 adjusting to the way the game was being called.
05:40 That paid off as the game went along.
05:43 >> Coach, I wanted to ask you about both Trent and Bruno.
05:46 They both played about 18 minutes tonight.
05:48 Just how they stepped in and focused during this game and
05:50 the trust that you have building in both of those players.
05:53 >> Yeah, that's the way that we've been.
05:57 We didn't have Jalen for a while.
05:58 And as soon as Jalen came back, Hunt was out.
06:02 So there's been a lot of guys at various times that have stepped up.
06:07 Trent being a matchup on Maxi, we've used him that way.
06:11 And tonight, obviously, Bruno's effort was huge.
06:16 His ability to get the ball into the rim and went up strong and finished with that
06:20 foul, I think both those guys and our bench, Patty in the first half,
06:25 we've got a lot of confidence.
06:26 The most important thing that those guys did, and this has been true, right?
06:32 They played hard.
06:34 And sometimes when starters or rotational guys,
06:40 over the course of the game when they're playing more minutes,
06:44 that's something that makes a huge impact.
06:47 When those guys come in the game and they're fresh and they just really get after
06:49 it and you can feel the passion that they're competing with.
06:53 And that's really important.
06:55 They did that tonight.
06:56 >> A follow up to what you said about playing in the paint.
07:01 On Jeka, I believe at 11 of your first 18,
07:04 which is not a role you normally see him take.
07:07 What does that reflect about maybe what his potential is when given that kind of
07:12 opportunity?
07:13 >> It kind of goes with what I was saying early, when Trey was finding him.
07:19 And his hands and his ability to finish in a crowd and absorb contact.
07:25 So whoever scores during the course of the game,
07:29 what you want is that the ball is gonna find the right person and the open person.
07:35 And that was the case with O early in the game.
07:38 Trey was getting off it and made a few passes to him and
07:43 then O's ability to finish.
07:44 And then that carried over throughout the game,
07:47 particularly with him on the glass and on the defensive glass as well.
07:51 >> Thanks, Coach.
