00:00 >> Hey, Coach, I'm just wondering if you have an update on Kevin or
00:02 how long you expect him to be out or- >> I don't expect him to be out a long time.
00:09 It's a bold move.
00:10 He hurt the outside of it when he got hit the other day.
00:16 It's kind of created a similar situation that the other one did, but
00:19 it's not something that is going to keep him from playing over time.
00:26 But if he'd have played today, he would have been 50% or 60%.
00:32 And then he risked getting hit again.
00:34 So he won't practice tomorrow.
00:36 We'll see about Thursday and hope he can practice on Friday.
00:40 >> In a game like tonight after a grind, grind, grind,
00:42 how good was it to kind of space this one out and get some guys minutes and
00:46 not have to stress it out?
00:47 >> Yeah, it was good not to have to stress as much.
00:50 And we played well.
00:51 We played well.
00:53 Offensively, we were in a ball move.
00:55 We got shots we wanted and we shared it.
00:59 Shot distribution was good.
01:02 Marco saw a couple go down.
01:03 And so there was a lot of good things offensively.
01:07 >> How important was it to have kind of an aggressive version of the lawn tonight
01:10 with Kevin there?
01:11 >> He shot two balls behind ball screens.
01:19 I think he made two, which is good.
01:22 We wanted to shoot the ball.
01:23 But yeah, I think he was more aggressive.
01:27 But the thing about it is, and I told Ron this, he needs to quit listening to me.
01:32 And he needs to quit listening to everybody else on how everybody else,
01:36 what they think he should be doing to play well.
01:39 It's ridiculous, including me.
01:42 All he's done is won a state high school championship, won a beach jam,
01:46 won a national championship.
01:49 He wins every pickup game.
01:51 I told him, just trust your instincts.
01:53 Just play and trust your instincts and quit trying to play if you are,
01:59 because other people say you need to do this and that.
02:01 You know what he needs to do?
02:02 He needs to make sure his team wins.
02:04 And that's what he does.
02:05 And so he'll read what he needs to do from game to game.
02:10 >> Marco said that this is the most comfortable he's felt since he's joined
02:14 Kansas.
02:15 Did you feel like that's the most comfortable he's looked since he's joined?
02:18 >> I thought offensively he was good.
02:20 Defensively, I would say there's some things we can improve on.
02:24 I thought offensively he was good.
02:28 But I'll be honest with you, it's easier to get comfortable when you make
02:32 a couple of shots early and everything.
02:36 And then all of a sudden you feel like that there's not pressure to make
02:39 the next one.
02:41 And it was good to see him.
02:43 He's a good player and he just hasn't played probably the way that he thought
02:47 he would thus far.
02:48 But tonight was a good step.
02:51 >> Bill, you guys were able to have DeJuan sit for a while.
02:56 When he was out in the first half, you guys went on a 13 to 2 run.
02:59 How big was it to be able to have that level of play while DeJuan was sitting on
03:04 the bench?
03:05 >> I thought it was good.
03:06 I didn't realize it was 13 to 2 run.
03:10 But DeJuan,
03:15 he's not a 37 minute a game player.
03:19 He's a 32 minute a game player.
03:22 And tonight we had the, we were fortunate enough that we could rest him.
03:28 And he'll be a lot better when he's in there.
03:31 He is not playing every minute of the game.
03:34 But I don't know, for the most part, that would be on a Marco.
03:41 But the way that we play, we play without a point guard 80% of the time.
03:47 Unless Juan's in the game.
03:49 Without Juan in the game, we don't play the point guard.
03:51 Whoever gets it brings it and initiates it.
03:53 We don't run a lot of sets because we don't know him.
03:56 Because nobody knows him from positions they're not used to playing.
04:00 So that was good tonight.
04:03 And I thought everybody pitched in and handled it pretty well.
