00:00 NECA's decided to celebrate their holiday early in Halloween Town. Here's
00:04 your look at the brand new NECA toys the Nightmare Before Christmas Jack's
00:07 Skellington articulated drawing model.
00:28 Recreate Jack's most iconic scenes or explore your own in an unlimited range
00:32 of dynamic poses to create an impressive display and no pumpkin king is complete.
00:36 With a pumpkin, set your scene with an included pumpkin accessory to help
00:40 further bring Jack to life. Just before we see what Jack can do, let's grab the
00:45 tape measure and see how tall the figure stands. Technically I really should start
00:48 it at the top of the display base if you want to know what just Jack is on his
00:51 own. For the nature of of course the way the design of the character, he has a
00:55 hard time to stand on his own but at least the folks over at NECA toys have
00:58 included a clear display stand to help aid him on this way. Jack's Skellington
01:02 though stands at 9 inches in height or the figure is going to be about 23
01:07 centimeters tall. I suppose while we are on the topic of holidays let's slide
01:10 over Jack's Skellington and bring in another holiday character that NECA toys
01:14 have produced a figure for. Here's what the figure looks like with the My Bloody
01:17 Valentine Minor or Harry Warden if you prefer. I wanted to at least bring one in
01:22 so you guys could see what a standard retro cloth figure would look like next
01:25 to Jack's Skellington and as it already would be apparent Jack's Skellington is
01:30 a quite bit taller. So Jack doesn't come with much other than the clear acrylic
01:35 display stand that's currently keeping him up. The figure also comes in clear
01:38 with his jack-o'-lantern. Now this jack-o'-lantern could be displayed on the
01:41 ends of his fingertips like I did at the beginning of this review or you can also
01:44 pop the existing head off the shoulders and then you could just replace it with
01:48 this one. It uses the same size hole on the bottom of the pumpkin. Nicely
01:52 detailed for what it is. You've got the more off-colored orange and of course
01:56 you've got a little bit of washing added in there as well. It's a really nice
01:59 looking jack-o'-lantern and again what you could do if you want to take your
02:02 figure off the display stand, we'll get back to the display stand in a second, you
02:05 can either have it on the ends of his fingers, it literally just basically sits
02:09 sort of sits on the end of his finger, his pointing finger like this and you
02:13 can just have the figure balancing it around that way. You kind of just have to
02:17 put the fingers together. Let's put the thumb and the finger together so you can
02:19 see what I'm talking about. Yeah, just put it on the end of his finger like that
02:22 if you wanted to him being like the Harlem Globetrotters spinning the ball
02:26 around. I don't know how many people would actually even get the reference of the
02:29 Harlem Globetrotters. Something a basketball team I grew up in the 80s,
02:32 they always won. What you can also do too is take the existing head of Jack's
02:36 skeleton which is a fine looking head sculpt. Look at this look at the stature
02:40 of this skeleton. I do like the way they've sculpted this. He does have the
02:44 yellow teeth on the inside of it but from a distance though that yellow looks
02:48 like it's actually a paint problem but if you look at it really closely you'll
02:51 actually notice that that paint problem is actually just his lower teeth. I do
02:55 wish in a way that being that this figure doesn't come with much anyways
02:58 that the figure could have also come in with a couple of alternate head sculpts
03:01 just ones that you could mix and match and pop them off. Maybe a surprise Jack, a
03:05 Jack maybe with you know I don't know like a yelling Jack, something similar to
03:09 that but if you wanted to you just take the head that's already on there right
03:13 now just pop it off the ball joint a satisfying pop and then just take the
03:17 jack-o'-lantern pumpkin you could pop that in place as well. I do like the idea
03:21 of the versatility of being able to mix and match the heads at the end of the
03:24 day of course if this is gonna be a Jack's skeleton I'm still gonna want to
03:27 have the figure displayed with the Jack head but I do appreciate the fact that
03:30 NECA toys gave you the option as collectors that you can change it around
03:33 if you wanted to. There's the Jack's skeleton head and there's the pumpkin
03:37 head. Pop that pumpkin head off for right now put back put Jack's head back in
03:42 place there we go and we're gonna get back to Jack in a second I don't know if
03:46 I'll get him a stand. Will he be able to stand? Maybe not so we'll have to just
03:49 lay him down for right now. The figure also comes in clear with a clear
03:52 acrylic display stand having a hard time getting that all out. The clear stand
03:56 actually if we just take the adjustable neck off right now actually has three
04:01 holes. One thing you may have already noticed off to the side here there's
04:04 actually a little plug the plug fit actually on the back of this when it was
04:07 first removed from its plastic prison. Yeah if you were to look at this as it
04:12 was the way it started just gonna plug that back in place the back one was
04:16 plugged off and then of course the ones on the other side either side would
04:19 actually have the working holes so you could have the adjustable neck attached
04:22 to either one of these but again if you wanted to use the one on the back I
04:25 prefer to use the one on the back all you'll do is just take the peg and just
04:29 basically pop it through until the plug then frees itself on the other side and
04:33 just put it to the side put it in a place at least where you're not gonna
04:36 lose it and then that just plugs in place like that you could also get the
04:40 benefit of having the additional pegs that they put on to the side of the
04:43 stand that happens to as well plug on to the bombs of Jack Skeleton's feet so if
04:47 you want to have the figure just displayed on his own he does
04:49 technically let's just remove the neck for right now you can take the neck or
04:54 you can take once the neck is off you can take the feet and those do plug on
04:58 to the display stand pegs although I do like a little bit of additional
05:01 assurance that the figure isn't gonna fall over it does stand somewhat
05:05 successfully and you can still get the figure in somewhat of a dynamic pose as
05:09 you can see I've got him in a walking stance right now but you can see like
05:12 there's not really a lot to hold him where he is and you can get him the
05:17 balance but I would rather just prefer to have the clear the adjustable neck to
05:20 add to add on to that as well the adjustable neck actually has several
05:24 different component pieces first each one of these by the way has the hingeable
05:28 jaw or the hingeable the hingeable jaw the hingeable joints and each one of
05:32 those plug on to the corresponding clear post any one of these by the way can be
05:37 detached so if you wanted to have a slightly shorter neck just unplug one of
05:41 them just plug the new one then in place and then you can take the end piece and
05:46 that you want to make sure that this is unplugged first you can have this
05:50 plugged into a slightly shorter post I did that at the beginning of this review
05:53 and I actually just had it cradled around his leg but then if you wanted to
05:57 have the full approach then basically you're just going to detach this all
06:00 this disassembly and reassembly plug this back in place there we go and then
06:06 just plug this on to the end of it and then you've got the full neck instead I
06:09 don't know how often I'm gonna really want to do this because using clear
06:13 acrylic plastic does give you sort of the illusion that this is standing on
06:16 its own but unfortunately what it does also mean too is that the frequent use
06:20 of always detaching these putting these back in place I wonder if that after a
06:24 while it's gonna start to develop fracture points right here I don't want
06:27 the plastic to break so I would say decide for yourself how many of these
06:31 you want to use and I wouldn't probably from there decide to you know keep
06:34 detaching them and reattaching them but there's a hinge joint basically here
06:37 there's a hinge joint here and a hinge right at the top as well and any one of
06:41 these by the way can be twisted so if you wanted to have them for example
06:44 swaying this way you can also do that as well and again that just plugs on to the
06:48 provided display stand so let's just plug it in for right now keep it at
06:52 least in a place where I know where it is there we go and let's just put it off
06:55 to the side this whole time poor Jack has taken a tumble getting a closer look
06:59 once again the head sculpt we've already kind of established the fact that that
07:02 is a superior head sculpt Jack Skellington is always one of those
07:06 interesting characters that's hard to pull off as a figure on paper and also
07:10 it's certainly in the movie you can have a long tall drink of water like this and
07:13 it works fine the moment though you start to translate this to a figure then
07:17 you have to decide for yourself well do you want to give them say fabric fabric
07:21 is good because it looks makes them look a little bit more closer to the film but
07:24 it does add a little bit of additional puffiness because if you were just to
07:27 pull this back a little bit that's probably more accurate to the way that
07:30 Jack Skellington's body would actually be plastic also works well if you want to
07:33 do just do from head to toe completely plastic articulated body but of course
07:37 along with that goes really the very fragile very thin component pieces that
07:43 would be with a plastic figure we've kind of really gotten from other
07:46 companies the best of both worlds we've gotten companies that have produced a
07:49 Jack Skellington that has had in fact the fabric outfit and then we've also
07:52 had companies that approach Jack Skellington with just only a plastic
07:55 frame but again like the the longevity of those figures always the things that
08:00 are gonna go on Jack Skellington or always the things are gonna give you
08:02 problems are always gonna be things like knee joints and elbow joints just
08:05 because there's so much smaller I do like the detailing that they've done
08:09 here for the little back bow tie that he has there this is all basically a softer
08:13 plastic really well painted there also as well of course the outfit itself is
08:17 an actual fabric outfit so it does add a little bit of additional puffiness to
08:21 him but I don't think to the point where it loses what the character should
08:24 really look like yes admittingly he probably should be a little bit thinner
08:27 than what this is but again the fact that they got as close as they did is
08:30 still a really nice looking figure pinstripe suit of course for the jacket
08:34 pinstripe pants is also as well he also has let me just bring his hands forward
08:39 you can also see some really nice detailing that they've done to each of
08:41 his individual fingertips ironically enough Jack Skellington doesn't actually
08:46 have four fingers he has what seems to be a thumb and then he has only three
08:50 little piggies instead of the four and again he has all the articulation along
08:53 the ways the one thing I will say though about the figure is by incorporating a
08:57 ball joint that they did at the end of his ankle it does give him a little bit
09:00 of an ugliness on the ends but granted if you have the pants far enough down
09:04 like this pant seems to sit really well for some reason this just seems to keep
09:08 continuing to sit around the ball joint you can't hide it but the moment that
09:12 you do lift this up just a little bit you can kind of really see a bit of an
09:16 ugly ball joint but again if you just bring the legs down you're really never
09:19 going to notice it the frame of the figures body by the way is all white
09:22 plastic so even if the pants happen to hike up at least you get treated to a
09:26 white plastic as opposed to a dark plastic I guess dark black plastic could
09:30 have also worked as well but white works also really well also and of course on
09:34 the back of the jacket he does have the tail I really like the way that first of
09:37 all I also really like the material that they've used for this as well it's not
09:41 quite I don't wouldn't necessarily say it's like it's just a straight cotton
09:45 material it does feel like if there's a little bit of a thickness to it but it
09:49 works and it falls naturally on the figures body and they also have added
09:52 some additional padding there on the top of his torso as well just to kind of
09:55 give him a little bit more of a block your top for the figures articulation
09:59 now the head sculpt is gonna be on a ball joint we've kind of already sort of
10:02 established that it rotates all the way around quite freely there's nothing
10:05 gonna be getting in the way of Jack from moving his head down up back and forth
10:09 and all the things in the middle now the figures arms easily come out at 90
10:13 degrees in fact you can probably even bring them out just a little bit more
10:15 than 90 degrees take those arms and they move forward and back I wouldn't really
10:19 advise rotating them all the way around just because the fabric will start to
10:23 get really tight real quick the figure does have a swivel at the top of his
10:27 shoulder the figure also has now here's the thing you really want to make sure
10:30 that when you're bending the elbow you you know where the hinge would be if it
10:34 feels right right away like there's resistance like if you start to bend it
10:37 one way and it's like hey that's not bending just double check kind of feel
10:41 around for where the joint is you can kind of feel there's a little ledge
10:43 right there right there and that will allow again the figures elbow to bend it
10:48 doesn't seem to be a double hinge on the elbow but I think more than just a
10:51 single hinge is not is enough I don't think you really necessarily need to
10:54 have two points two places of articulation on the elbows hands rotate
10:58 also all the way around they hinge back and forth there as well the upper torso
11:03 is gonna be on a very nice ball joint I was actually surprised to see that they
11:06 incorporated an upper torso ball joint I thought if anything they would just have
11:09 a waist swivel but neck toys did in fact include an upper torso ball joint legs
11:14 do split up very easily in fact you can take the legs move forward move them
11:18 back as a swivel at the top of the thigh there is what seems to be only still a
11:22 single hinge you can feel it right there yeah right there there's a single hinge
11:25 on the knee and as we've already looked at the figure also has a ball joint at
11:29 the end of his ankle so I think he has it where it counts I mean it'd be again
11:33 really hard to get this guy in really interesting I mean you can also always
11:37 really get this guy in some pretty cool stances like I had this guy kind of in a
11:40 walking stance at the beginning of this review easily it's something that can be
11:44 pulled off but it can only really be pulled off by the fact he does have the
11:47 adjustable neck so again we'll just kind of clip this on the back of the
11:49 figures body just like that and then again you can also clip the figures
11:53 feet onto the actual provided pegs on the display stand as well nice-looking
11:56 Jack Skellington you know I did already say that one of the problems that go
12:00 along with a character like this is the character was designed with the idea
12:03 that there was never really going to be figures produced for it based on just
12:06 known what they were going to be doing on the screen it's so easy just to come
12:09 up with a very lean limber character with a big giant skull head translating
12:14 that to an actual action figure or collectible can be a hard feat
12:18 negatoys have in fact done nightmare for Christmas figures before other
12:22 companies have also picked up the licensing as well I lean more to the
12:25 idea of actually having Jack Skellington with an actual fabric outfit because one
12:29 thing it does also nicely do is it conceals the joints of what's actually
12:32 hiding underneath it by doing it sometimes all plastic which companies
12:36 have done in fact before it does mean unfortunately that all those those seams
12:40 all those those hinge joints for example are very very much more noticeable on
12:44 the figure by keeping it actually underneath fabric yes unfortunately
12:48 you're gonna have to kind of second-guess yourself as to where exactly
12:50 the joints would be but the end result is at least a Jack Skellington that
12:54 looks a little bit more like a silver screen counterpart of course that you
12:58 appreciate the fact that neck would include a swappable head sculpt as good
13:01 as the jack-o'-lantern maybe I don't feel it's good enough to replace the one
13:04 that we already get for Jack Skellington that head sculpt for Jack is too good to
13:08 put back in the clamshell case speaking of the clamshell it is made in a way
13:12 that at least from NECA standpoint that you can open it up and still seal it
13:16 shut I don't know what it was about the glue on this one though and I was just
13:19 having the hardest time of trying to open it up carefully it can still seal
13:23 although it looks like when I do seal it up that the dog got a hold of it yeah
13:27 you can open it up I would probably suggest that if you have one if you have
13:30 the time and you have the patience probably heat it up just a little bit
13:33 with a hairdryer to see if you can soften up some of the glue around it it
13:36 might make things a little bit easier for opening up the clam case that when
13:40 you decide you want to put Jack back in it it'll close a lot nicer than the one
13:44 is the one I have right now the figure is nicely displayed here at least with
13:47 the adjustable neck it's one of those cases where the figure couldn't have had
13:50 it without it because it does give him some much-needed stability yes from the
13:54 back it's gonna obviously look like he's got just a big clear post holding the
13:58 back of his body but I'd rather that than having the figure trying to bounce
14:01 on those tiny little feet approaching this figure can always be hard companies
14:05 that either even given Jack Skellington just a full plastic body with very
14:09 visible limb joints I prefer myself even though it does make the figure look a
14:13 little puffier that they actually wrap the fabric and wrap the character in
14:16 fabric it does make his arms a little fatter but not to the point where it
14:21 doesn't look like Jack Skellington and I think NECA toys has done a really great
14:24 job on this guy what do you guys think of Jack let me know down below in the
14:27 comment section have you guys had the chance to pick up the articulate drawing
14:29 model of Jack Skellington let's hope I don't expect them to go back to what
14:34 they were doing before with all the other night before Christmas figures the
14:36 stuff that NECA was doing back in the day was fantastic for those nightmare
14:39 figures if you had the chance to still have those sealed you're sitting on a
14:42 goldmine but I do hope at the very least while we may not get the entire cast and
14:47 crew of night before Christmas I do hope at the very least we get an articulate
14:50 drawing model of Sally if you're gonna get a Jack Skellington you like to hope
14:54 at least you're gonna get a Sally to go along with them have like I said have
14:57 you guys had the chance to pick up this one for yourself let me know what you
14:59 think of them down below and if you guys did enjoy this video I'll throw it a
15:02 like if you guys are loving the content you guys are seeing and you'd like to
15:05 stick around for more we may be wrapping up things right now in Halloween town
15:08 but that's not to say that we won't be looking at some more NECA reviews in
15:12 upcoming videos as always guys thanks for watching see you guys next time
15:18 you
15:20 you
15:22 (whooshing)
