NECA Toony Terrors The Misfits Fiend Figure

00:00 While they're singing about Saturday night, I'm still eating cereal on Saturday morning.
00:05 Here's a look at the brand new NECA toys, Toony Terror, The Misfits, The Fiend.
00:09 Bring the fun of Saturday morning cartoons to your horror collection with the adorable little creeps of Toony Terrors.
00:29 NECA's line of stylized horror icons.
00:31 Standing approximately 6 inches tall, the mascot of the Misfits band, The Fiend, joins the Toony Terrors line.
00:37 The figure comes in blister card packaging with bonus cutout backdrop.
00:41 I think it's safe to say that both the Misfits and NECA know a little something about the horror business.
00:46 Before, of course, we get a closer look at the new Toony Terrors, The Misfits, Fiend,
00:50 the tape measure is telling us that the figure is about 5 and a quarter inches in height, or it's about 13 centimeters tall.
00:56 Let's bring in those other Toony Terror figures we've already had a look at.
00:59 So here's what The Fiend looks like with the earlier looked at Return of the Living Dead Toony Terrors Tarman.
01:03 Here's what the first figure we looked at from the new line of Toony Terrors, here's what he looks like with Megan.
01:08 And then on this side, some of my personal favorites, here's what the figure looks like with the Toony Terrors Michael Myers,
01:12 and the Toony Terrors Miner.
01:14 I keep forgetting to show you guys this though, on the back of the packaging for all the Toony Terrors,
01:18 they have their own unique cardboard cutout backdrop.
01:21 So if you wanted to, and you have the space provided, you could just cut that and have it on display.
01:25 Being that I don't have the space, I haven't cut these out for years,
01:28 but I do appreciate the fact that NECA Toys does include these.
01:30 There, now I did it.
01:32 Move that out of the way, the figure does also come included with a couple of accessories.
01:35 First, The Fiend comes included with a candelabra.
01:37 One side of the candelabra I know is getting out of the packaging, this is sort of leaning in towards the middle.
01:42 So I'm going to see if I can maybe heat this up just a little bit, and just so, you know, it's a little bit more symmetrical on either side.
01:48 It's a pretty soft plastic that they've used, molding it first in gold, and then of course painting the parts of the candle.
01:53 I do especially like the fact that even for as small as this is, molded a little bit of dripping wax down the front of the candle.
01:59 Flames are on all three of them, and they clip into this side of the figure's hands.
02:03 He actually has one gripping hand, and then he has one relaxed hand,
02:06 and I'm guessing the relaxed hand is then for the little jar that he comes included with.
02:10 The jar isn't as well painted, unfortunately.
02:12 You see there's a little bit of problem with the green.
02:15 Other than that, though, it's a little jar, of course, he can carry around with him.
02:17 Now, putting this into his hands, first let's take the candelabra.
02:21 Just have to pry the fingers a little bit away from the palm, and then we just get the candelabra in there.
02:25 It sits okay. I mean, actually, of the two accessories, it fits the easiest.
02:30 And then what you can do is then take the little jar, for example, or bottle, I guess bottle, and that just fits into his hand.
02:36 The way, almost in the way that they've actually sculpted the fingers and the thumb,
02:40 you'd almost think that you'd be able to take the top of the jar and be able to fit that into his hand,
02:45 but it doesn't actually hold the top well enough that you'd be able to hold it this way.
02:49 I mean, if you hold it, it's only by just luck alone that he actually is going to hold on to it.
02:54 I've done this a couple of times, and it held for a couple of minutes, and then it fell out of his hand.
02:59 You can keep continuing to hold it this way, or I just think, honestly, and it's less likely to be lost if you just have him carrying around that way instead.
03:06 Let's take both the accessories out of the fiend's hand. We'll just put those off to the side.
03:09 Getting a closer look at the head sculpt, though, for fiend, really like the way that this one turned out.
03:14 I'm sure we are probably going to be getting a red cloak version of fiend in the same similar sort of mold, and I'd be okay with that as well.
03:20 The head sculpt is really good on this one. I love the way they've got the little eyes, the little pupils, not even so little either,
03:26 just sitting along the top brow of his skull face, and of course, you've got the little missing teeth there also as well.
03:32 It's a really bright colored face as well, and I do think like the paint's been handled really well,
03:36 even though there really isn't a lot of paint happening here on the fiend.
03:39 The majority of the figure's body, obviously, is just the molded black plastic, and then they went in there and very meticulously painted the individual finger bones,
03:46 not to mention as well the face, and though being those the only two places, the only three places really that the figure is painted,
03:52 he's painted extremely well. Like I said, though, the hands are also one thing.
03:56 First of all, he has articulation in the hands, which is good to see, but even all the individual fingers,
04:01 I noticed, though, with the fingers that if you put your finger against this, it seems like they're actually painted there.
04:07 I thought for a second that this was actually sculpted where the fingers were sticking up from themselves,
04:11 but it's not the case. They actually just painted, but even still, though, the hands are actually painted extremely well.
04:16 I like the way they've sculpted the cloak. Now, his arms are designed in such a way that you can't move them,
04:21 so he is going to be a little bit more limited comparing him to, like, for example, some of the other Tooney terrors,
04:26 where normally you'd have the swiveling here, the shoulders, and then you'd have the swiveling in the hands,
04:31 but because the fiend is basically encased in his cape, you really wouldn't be able to move his arms back and forth,
04:36 which is a bit of a shame, unfortunately. I kind of wish that you'd be able to move these back and forth,
04:39 but I know in order to get the part of the cloak on the back of the figure's body like this, they had to make some sacrifices.
04:45 Even if the sacrifices are made for the posability, the sacrifices certainly don't look like they've been made at all for the sculpting of the actual figure.
04:52 I just really like the way that this one turned out. He has one arched foot on the back of what is the bottom of his train,
04:59 and then he's got one, like, little pointed foot that sticks out the front. You can see on the bottom of it,
05:04 it's very similar to, like, the Ghostface, for example, or, like, the Nun Valak,
05:08 where they're basically, like, pre-molded figures that have just a flat bottom. Pinhead also was like that as well,
05:13 and again, it's not bothering me at all, the fact that the figure doesn't have, like, really defined feet or anything that really would indicate an actual leg on the bottom of the cloak,
05:22 because, again, like, if you're looking at it, you're only going to be looking at it from the front anyways,
05:25 and it's a really, like I said, a nice-looking fiend. Now, for his articulation, like I said,
05:29 he is going to be a little bit more on the limited side, because he only really has the articulation here in his head sculpt.
05:33 The head does rotate all the way around. It is actually on a ball joint, too, so it does even have also the ability to hinge the head up,
05:41 have the hinge down. You can also slightly rock it back and forth, but not really a whole lot, though.
05:46 Like I said, though, the arm articulation is really going to be very limited on this figure.
05:50 Even though it does almost look like he's got a cut right there and a cut here, you really can't move the arms at all.
05:56 They're basically just encased by the top cape of the cloak, but what he can do instead, though,
06:02 is he can rotate his hands all the way around, and you can also rotate this hand all the way around,
06:07 also for the purpose of holding those two accessories we've already had a look at.
06:10 And just like literally the rest of the figure's body is just a stacked, I don't want to say paperweight,
06:16 but he basically has no possibility at all for him. But I don't think he necessarily needs it either.
06:20 I mean, the whole thing with a lot of these Toon Eaters that I like so much about them anyways is the fact that they have cartoon-stylized designs to them.
06:27 And I think a character like the Fiend, I've been kind of saying this across the board so far with all these new Toon Eater figures,
06:32 I think Fiend works really well for a cartoon version of the character.
06:36 Again, like with the actual bottle that he has, I mean, it doesn't hold it very well if you want to hold it upright.
06:43 Sometimes, if you're lucky, he holds it upright, but I'd rather just have him actually holding in his hand like that,
06:48 so it's less likely to fall on the floor. Because I know if it falls on the floor,
06:51 the first one that's going to claim that little tiny bottle is probably going to be my cat,
06:55 and then I'm not going to be actually happy with where that bottle's going to end up.
06:58 Bringing the other two figures we've already had a look at.
07:01 Here's, oops, there goes the bottle. Bringing in Megan, let's put the bottle back in his hand.
07:05 Oh, let's just put it back in there. Bringing back in Megan.
07:10 And why are we not, why am I such, there we go, there we go.
07:13 Bringing back in Megan, bringing back in the Tar Man.
07:16 We still are also going to be looking at Vincent Price.
07:18 What a cast, what a cast for this new current wave of Toon Eaters.
07:22 I like the fact that they finally found a way to incorporate the Fiend.
07:25 Even though the Fiend really, he's not necessarily from a movie,
07:28 I mean, obviously, Mecha's always been a big fan of the Misfits.
07:31 Me too, as well. I mean, we've gotten a couple of retro cloth versions of the Fiend.
07:35 We also got ourselves an Ultimate Fiend, all of which we've already had a look at here on this channel.
07:39 I think Fiend, again, works very well with the Toon Eaters.
07:41 Though limited, again, on the articulation front, he has still articulation where it counts in his head,
07:46 and he has it in his hands, and he also gets actually a couple of accessories.
07:49 I mean, up to this point, he's the only character of the Dune Toon Eaters wave
07:53 that can actually say he's come in clue with two accessories.
07:55 Both Megan and the Tar Man on either side of him have only come in clue with one accessory.
08:00 Faced with an ongoing frustration of the Fiend trying to hold his bottle properly,
08:04 I decided to solve my issues with hot water.
08:06 Not me, actually, the hands for Fiend.
08:08 What I ended up doing, though, was I submerged the hand in hot water just enough to soften up the plastic.
08:13 And while the plastic was still soft, I wedged the neck of the bottle in between his thumb and his pointer finger,
08:18 and then I let the plastic on the hand naturally cool while still holding it.
08:22 Now he seemed to have a strong enough grip to properly hold the bottle,
08:25 which I'm sure was the plan in mind for NECA toys when they first sculpted the hand,
08:29 was that he was supposed to be holding the bottle like he is doing right now.
08:32 Problem fixed, problem solved.
08:34 The question, though, is will we be getting a red cloaked Fiend to go along the black cloaked Fiend?
08:38 And if that's the case, will he come in clue with the exact same accessories?
08:41 Being that the hands, I'm sure, aren't going to be changed at all,
08:44 will they just simply include another candelabra and just maybe a slightly colored variation of the bottle,
08:49 or maybe, you know, just be packed exactly with the exact same accessories?
08:52 Time will only certainly tell whether we get ourselves a red cloaked Fiend.
08:55 I certainly hope that's the case.
08:57 I have, I will say, though, the current wave of Toonie terrors I've really been enjoying.
09:01 Maybe not as much the earlier wave that we've looked at, that line had the Sven Gulli, it had the vampire.
09:07 I could certainly understand maybe why.
09:09 That's a very specific character, Sven Gulli, and even vampire for that extent.
09:13 I mean, new time collectors of horror, new time fans of horror may not recognize right away who those characters are.
09:18 Ironically enough, of all the characters that make up this current wave,
09:21 probably the one that is the most recognizable by younger horror fans is probably Megan.
09:26 Funny enough, though, I certainly hope that everybody knows who Vincent Price is.
09:30 Yes? Yes. Yes. Okay.
09:33 Because we are going to be looking at him in an upcoming review.
09:36 What I might just end up doing, though, is taking a bit of a break from Price,
09:39 and I might instead go directly to the deluxe set of the John Kramer that comes included with Billy the Puppet and his tricycle.
09:45 I can't wait to actually get that one open up.
09:47 That one also will be coming up in an upcoming review.
09:49 By the way, though, any one of these should be available right now in retail stores and online.
09:53 Being the fact that I failed to find them in the first step, of course, finding them in the wild,
09:58 here in Canada, we can't find anything.
10:01 I mean, NECA stuff is usually stocked, if anything, in Toys R Us stores,
10:04 and even now, like, Toys R Us seems to be moving stuff all around to kind of make room for some HMV stores.
10:10 I mean, I don't know if any Canadian collectors have heard about this, but, like, Toys R Us seems to be merging with HMV.
10:15 If HMV was like a music kind of multimedia store at one point, it went under.
10:20 But some of the main Toys R Us stores, what little we have now left in Canada,
10:23 they have now seemed to be kind of allocating space for HMV.
10:27 The point I was trying to make, though, is that at one point we had a whole long--
10:31 that whole big shelf space full of NECA stuff,
10:34 it seems to be the case that we got a lot less NECA stuff showing up.
10:37 So if you are a Canadian collector, you can always check your local comic book stores.
10:41 Sometimes those are a good place to find your Toonie Tares, or just your fix for NECA as a whole.
10:45 Or what you usually can do is what I usually end up doing. You can also order these things online.
