00:00:03 Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:00:07 Hard hats, lunch pail, steel tool, boots.
00:00:09 Anything short of a championship this year is a fail.
00:00:12 It's not even--
00:00:12 Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:13 You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:16 Somebody said we need to apologize for Jalen.
00:00:18 Can I pull the John?
00:00:19 What are we apologizing for?
00:00:21 What did we say?
00:00:21 What did we do?
00:00:22 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:00:29 What's going on here?
00:00:32 What's up?
00:00:33 What?
00:00:36 It's getting all weird.
00:00:37 We didn't get the roll in, though.
00:00:40 It's busy.
00:00:41 The fade was weird.
00:00:43 It must be busy.
00:00:44 You didn't let us ride into the show with the--
00:00:46 [HUMMING]
00:00:49 What's up, John?
00:00:50 Am I lagging?
00:00:51 Are you lagging?
00:00:54 Am I lagging?
00:00:55 No, we're good.
00:00:57 We're good.
00:00:58 I'll look at the chat.
00:00:59 We're good.
00:01:00 Start over.
00:01:01 We'll do it live.
00:01:02 We'll do it live.
00:01:03 No, we're good.
00:01:04 We're here.
00:01:04 Jimmy Toscano is back, freshly shorn.
00:01:08 Yeah, I got a haircut.
00:01:09 I need one.
00:01:10 He's going to put his neutral fold to the test
00:01:13 and see how it goes.
00:01:15 Yeah.
00:01:16 He's going to try.
00:01:17 He's going to see what happens, see how--
00:01:21 I'm very confident that it's going to work.
00:01:23 Let's put it that way.
00:01:24 Very confident.
00:01:24 Yes.
00:01:25 Someone said the stream crashed for them.
00:01:27 I don't believe you.
00:01:29 I don't believe you.
00:01:30 Sorry.
00:01:32 Yes, I'm back.
00:01:33 But I am going away this weekend, so this is just a tease.
00:01:35 But then I will be back after that.
00:01:37 And I don't have anything too crazy planned, I don't think.
00:01:39 So I should be back.
00:01:40 And then I'm going away.
00:01:42 Then you're going away.
00:01:43 I need a break, Jimmy.
00:01:46 I need a break.
00:01:46 You could-- yeah, you deserve it.
00:01:48 You deserve it.
00:01:49 Where are you going?
00:01:51 Different places.
00:01:51 I got a conference, Jimmy.
00:01:53 I got work stuff.
00:01:54 Conference?
00:01:55 Is Chelsea going with you?
00:01:57 Yeah.
00:01:57 Oh, that's not a break.
00:02:00 That's not a break.
00:02:02 That doesn't count.
00:02:04 Yeah.
00:02:05 Yeah.
00:02:05 Anyway, so same pattern for these three games.
00:02:12 Sports.
00:02:13 Same pattern for these three games.
00:02:16 Kind of mixed baggy first half, letting them hang around,
00:02:22 not putting them away.
00:02:24 Tonight it was--
00:02:25 Turnovers.
00:02:26 Tonight it was turnovers, a little bit
00:02:28 of offensive rebounding, atrocious, atrocious three
00:02:33 point shooting.
00:02:35 Borderline non-existent.
00:02:36 We'll get into that.
00:02:38 Borderline.
00:02:38 And again, we're looking for the number, but five threes?
00:02:42 What?
00:02:43 Joe is going to absolutely--
00:02:45 don't be surprised when Joe Swaye and Bobby
00:02:51 finally take the court, if you don't have a Herb Brooks
00:02:54 sort of moment with him out there,
00:02:56 just having him just shoot threes.
00:02:59 Again.
00:03:00 Again.
00:03:01 You think--
00:03:01 Again.
00:03:02 You think Gary Washburn's walking around
00:03:04 with a little pep in his step today?
00:03:05 Yeah.
00:03:06 Hey, Joe, what's up?
00:03:08 No threes.
00:03:09 Hey, you guys won by 20 without taking 43s tonight.
00:03:12 What's up with that?
00:03:12 I was told it couldn't be done.
00:03:14 No, Washburn's not in shambles.
00:03:15 Washburn's taking a victory lap right now.
00:03:18 That's what I said.
00:03:18 He's walking around with a little pep in his step.
00:03:20 Exactly.
00:03:22 Absolutely.
00:03:23 How you like me now, Joe?
00:03:25 Yeah.
00:03:26 I don't have a kid, and I'm married.
00:03:28 What?
00:03:29 Living the dream.
00:03:30 What?
00:03:31 What else you want to know?
00:03:33 Shoot less threes, dude.
00:03:36 The blueprint is now out.
00:03:38 Yeah, exactly.
00:03:39 Gary's taking nonstop victory laps.
00:03:42 He's on his third one.
00:03:43 We love Gary.
00:03:48 It'll be great.
00:03:49 Gary-- yeah, this would be the ultimate troll.
00:03:51 Gary sits in the press conference
00:03:52 and just stares at Joe and just goes--
00:03:56 but never asks the question.
00:03:57 Forgot what I was going to say.
00:03:58 No, I'm good.
00:03:59 I'm good.
00:03:59 I forgot.
00:03:59 I forgot.
00:04:00 Wasn't important.
00:04:01 I don't remember.
00:04:02 But--
00:04:07 Here it is, Gary.
00:04:07 Yeah, I mean, really good third quarter.
00:04:11 Really, the tatum and the bench-- bench was brutal tonight.
00:04:14 And this is good.
00:04:15 This is-- OK, here we go.
00:04:16 Ready?
00:04:17 Our overreaction of the night?
00:04:21 Bench worries us.
00:04:23 Get Tillman some action.
00:04:25 Chat-- I was in the chat while you were primping,
00:04:28 whatever it is you do before you come on.
00:04:30 Lot of-- what are we doing, man?
00:04:33 We're getting an X-ray here?
00:04:34 Springer got some burn.
00:04:36 Yeah.
00:04:37 Springer over Tillman.
00:04:38 Who saw that one coming?
00:04:40 So we'll talk about that, because I know
00:04:42 people are interested in it.
00:04:44 And I do find it interesting, because it's
00:04:46 a little bit of a contradiction for some of the other things
00:04:48 that Joe says in terms of being uncomfortable.
00:04:52 But yeah, you know, and it's another, like, Brown--
00:05:01 three straight great Jalen games post dunk contest embarrassment.
00:05:07 He's been great.
00:05:09 Great?
00:05:10 Yeah.
00:05:10 Great.
00:05:10 Best player out there.
00:05:11 Best player out there.
00:05:13 He's been playing smart basketball overall.
00:05:16 Not trying to do too much.
00:05:18 But again, scoring in bursts, taking control of the game,
00:05:22 looking like he is the 1A to this team
00:05:26 more often than he had been.
00:05:27 And when-- you know, Tatum had a funky game,
00:05:30 because he really turned it on in the fourth quarter
00:05:33 when they needed him.
00:05:34 But prior to that, I think it was 14 points
00:05:35 going into that quarter.
00:05:37 Brown was really the guy that they were going to more,
00:05:40 and the guy that really kind of stepped up there,
00:05:41 and Puzingas stepped in, and they all
00:05:43 went to the line tonight.
00:05:44 It was just such a different game.
00:05:45 What I like about this game is that they
00:05:47 won in a different way, John.
00:05:49 They didn't win by scoring 25 three-pointers tonight
00:05:54 and taking 60.
00:05:55 They won by pounding the paint out.
00:05:57 Warford even got in on the action tonight down low.
00:06:00 So I don't know if this was something
00:06:02 that they pivoted to when the threes stopped--
00:06:04 when the threes weren't going down right away.
00:06:08 But it's something that they decided to ahead of time.
00:06:10 What is this?
00:06:11 This is a funny comment.
00:06:13 That is still true.
00:06:15 He went left several times, including a lefty dunk.
00:06:18 One was a foul, and another was a finish.
00:06:20 So he did go left and score left,
00:06:23 or it had it result in--
00:06:26 22 three-point attempts, lowest of the season for the Celtics.
00:06:29 Yeah.
00:06:31 So--
00:06:32 Yeah.
00:06:33 And the last time they took three-pointers in the 20s,
00:06:37 they lost to Orlando.
00:06:39 So again, this was a different type of a win tonight.
00:06:41 So you got to kind of like it.
00:06:43 Yeah, and again, Sixers without Embiid,
00:06:46 Sixers have been just handing out--
00:06:48 they've been taking Ls every which way they possibly can.
00:06:52 They're on the brink of not even making the playoffs at this
00:06:54 point.
00:06:55 But all that being said, I like that the Celtics played
00:06:59 aggressive, got to the line.
00:07:00 These are the things that we've been saying that we
00:07:02 want to see from them more--
00:07:03 being physical.
00:07:05 Tatum got teed up.
00:07:06 I'm not saying that was because he was physical,
00:07:08 but a little bit of attitude out there.
00:07:11 And just play bully ball.
00:07:13 Hated how the Sixers came back in that fourth quarter,
00:07:15 got to two.
00:07:15 But again, the Celtics didn't let
00:07:17 them complete that comeback.
00:07:19 And then that's when Tatum really took over.
00:07:20 Yeah.
00:07:21 That was nice.
00:07:22 So that bothered me.
00:07:23 Because the bench is going to catch all the strays there.
00:07:26 And I get it, because they haven't been great.
00:07:33 But when the shots aren't falling--
00:07:38 and so they weren't great tonight.
00:07:40 But I thought Tatum was dog shit early in that fourth quarter.
00:07:44 And generally, kind of like--
00:07:46 I mean, at the end, this is a classic.
00:07:48 You're going to look at the stat line and be like, oh, what?
00:07:52 Almost a triple-double MVP stuff.
00:07:54 What are you talking about?
00:07:55 It really wasn't a great Tatum game.
00:07:59 But you have to break it down.
00:08:01 He had a great fourth quarter.
00:08:02 He had a great fourth quarter.
00:08:03 He had a great fourth quarter after letting the Sixers back
00:08:08 into the game.
00:08:08 Because yeah, the bench wasn't out there.
00:08:10 You're supposed to trust Tatum with those--
00:08:13 it's Tatum, one starter, and three bench guys.
00:08:15 Granted, one of those guys was Al,
00:08:16 and he counts as one of your big six.
00:08:20 But they were bad.
00:08:21 And even that scramble play with the loose ball,
00:08:23 where everyone's diving around trying to make something
00:08:26 happen, Tatum's just watching it.
00:08:28 He had another play where he took a shot,
00:08:30 kind of followed it in there, was pissed it didn't go in,
00:08:34 bodied a defender with no chance of getting a steal,
00:08:37 and then just walked up the court, resulting in a three
00:08:39 and the timeout there.
00:08:40 And he didn't get back in a play.
00:08:42 I didn't like that at all.
00:08:43 And then what does Joe do coming out of the timeout?
00:08:46 He subs Luke Cornett in.
00:08:50 That's his move.
00:08:51 He brings in Luke.
00:08:52 And what do they do?
00:08:52 They go on a 16-0 run.
00:08:54 Granted, not all with Luke in there.
00:08:55 Eventually, White, Porzingis, Brown come back in.
00:08:58 But from that point on, Joe's big adjustment
00:09:00 was bring Luke in the game.
00:09:01 And it settled things a little.
00:09:04 And they got back onto it.
00:09:05 And then Tatum went into takeover mode.
00:09:07 Those couple of dunks were electric, plays of the night
00:09:10 sort of stuff.
00:09:11 And then all of a sudden--
00:09:12 That dunk, he really--
00:09:13 You look up, it's like a 19-point game.
00:09:15 You're like, how the hell did that happen?
00:09:17 Yeah, they clamped down on defense, too.
00:09:20 It was both sides of it.
00:09:21 They were able to get out in transition
00:09:23 and limited the turnovers, all the key stuff that goes
00:09:25 into going on a run like that.
00:09:27 And yeah, I think just have a Luke in the game, John.
00:09:29 I hate to say it.
00:09:30 I like to have a Luke in the game,
00:09:31 settled the boys down a bit.
00:09:33 He's that calming presence out there.
00:09:35 I'm sure Bobby will get into it when he gets on.
00:09:37 Bobby's there.
00:09:38 Joe's there tonight.
00:09:39 So it'd be good to get those guys' perspectives when they--
00:09:43 Yeah, and Hauser was getting cooked tonight.
00:09:45 Hauser got caught in a couple of switches with Maxie early.
00:09:48 And that didn't go well.
00:09:49 He's just too fast.
00:09:50 Maxie can't-- you can't do that.
00:09:53 I'm not putting it all on Tatum.
00:09:55 Tatum's got to be the everything in those units.
00:09:59 And when he's in his feelings and he's not--
00:10:03 this was one of those nights where he complained about call.
00:10:07 I know the whole Tatum universe.
00:10:11 He doesn't get the superstar calls like he should.
00:10:14 And yeah, sort of.
00:10:17 The refs are still--
00:10:18 He got to the line 11 times tonight.
00:10:20 But this was one of those nights where every single time
00:10:23 he missed a shot, he was looking for a call that absolutely
00:10:28 didn't exist.
00:10:29 I hate those ones.
00:10:31 It's like, you just came up short.
00:10:33 You missed it.
00:10:34 You missed it.
00:10:35 It happens.
00:10:37 It's not a big deal.
00:10:38 Just sit back.
00:10:40 Always going to be part of his game, I think, a little bit.
00:10:42 It's just something that he's tried to work on a little bit.
00:10:45 You do see less pouting as much as we used to.
00:10:49 But the emotions that he-- that's just his reaction
00:10:52 to things.
00:10:53 And I guess I wonder if there are other superstars who
00:10:59 do it just as much as he does.
00:11:00 And we just don't see it as much.
00:11:02 You can't tell me that Luka doesn't bitch and moan
00:11:04 up and down the court all game, every game.
00:11:07 I mean, it's--
00:11:07 I'm not-- yeah.
00:11:08 No question about it.
00:11:09 It's just part of the territory, I think,
00:11:11 when you get to that MVP-type discussion.
00:11:17 We got a couple of super chats here.
00:11:21 Yeah, I know.
00:11:22 The Tate universe taking some strays here.
00:11:24 Again, look, it wasn't-- like I said, it wasn't great.
00:11:28 But it was a takeover, sort of fourth quarter there.
00:11:30 20 from Vtonie Vicente.
00:11:35 All right, read it.
00:11:38 Number one.
00:11:39 I'll read it.
00:11:40 Why don't people talk about JB's atrocious free throw
00:11:42 shooting?
00:11:42 We do.
00:11:43 They do.
00:11:44 People do.
00:11:45 People definitely do.
00:11:46 It just wasn't-- it wasn't--
00:11:48 I mean, generally speaking--
00:11:50 He was 8 of 10 tonight.
00:11:52 I don't think that's the night where we talk about his
00:11:54 atrocious free throw shooting.
00:11:57 Number two, Drew seemed like he was in his own head
00:12:01 and would cause a moronic turnover,
00:12:03 then make up for it with a good play.
00:12:05 Thoughts on that?
00:12:09 I don't know.
00:12:10 I mean, yeah, there were a few silly turnovers tonight,
00:12:14 for sure.
00:12:15 What did Holiday end up with?
00:12:16 He had four turnovers tonight.
00:12:18 So when we're talking about the best performances of the night,
00:12:23 I don't think Drew Holiday would be on the first couple of guys
00:12:26 on that list.
00:12:27 I thought he was good early.
00:12:28 I thought they were all a little sloppy.
00:12:30 More often than not, he's pretty reliable with the ball.
00:12:33 And I think, again, he's a guy that if you're comparing him--
00:12:37 if I'm comparing him to Marcus Mart, which is that's just
00:12:39 the default comparison, I still trust him
00:12:42 with the ball in his hands pretty much every time.
00:12:46 So--
00:12:47 Yeah, I just-- I also--
00:12:48 I'm just-- I'm not going to complain about free throw
00:12:50 shooting on a night when they went 34 from 37.
00:12:52 They were--
00:12:54 Brown did miss two of those, but--
00:12:56 They were like six in the league or something coming in.
00:12:58 They got through the line so much tonight.
00:12:59 Coming into this one.
00:13:00 Free throw shooting, while it's frustrating watching it
00:13:03 when it's Tatum and Brown, because oftentimes they're
00:13:05 the ones with the ball in their hands late,
00:13:07 and you certainly don't want to miss free throws late
00:13:08 in close games, overall, they've been an outstanding free throw
00:13:12 shooting team this year.
00:13:14 So that's fine with their-- yeah, the turnovers were weird.
00:13:18 They looked oddly disconnected on some of them.
00:13:20 They were expecting people to be certain places
00:13:23 and that they weren't.
00:13:25 You know, some weird just kind of hot potato sort of stuff
00:13:29 there.
00:13:31 And that's fine.
00:13:31 And yeah, it's-- who is Drew?
00:13:33 It's Drew.
00:13:36 Don't get John going on the pronunciation again.
00:13:39 Drew.
00:13:40 Would you call him, start the year, J-Rew?
00:13:43 J-Rew.
00:13:44 What's up, J-Rew?
00:13:45 What's up, J-Rew?
00:13:46 He's like, OK.
00:13:47 But I thought Holiday played a good game tonight.
00:13:50 So I'm-- you know, like a really good game.
00:13:53 So I'm not going to--
00:13:54 I don't know what it was within his own head.
00:13:56 Something's wrong.
00:13:57 Tony's angry tonight.
00:13:58 I don't know why--
00:13:59 But he had a couple of turnovers and that wasn't great.
00:14:02 Somebody pissed in Tony's cereal.
00:14:04 He's talking about-- he's complaining about offensive
00:14:06 rebounds tonight, too.
00:14:07 See, you don't-- you know, Tony threw down 20 here, OK?
00:14:13 So the Tony slander--
00:14:15 I don't know what his offensive rebound--
00:14:17 The Tony slander ends now.
00:14:19 It's not slander.
00:14:20 It's just a couple--
00:14:23 It's healthy debate, John.
00:14:24 So I'll ask this question.
00:14:26 I don't know-- when we talk about this,
00:14:29 someone mentioned it last game.
00:14:31 Is there experimentation going on?
00:14:33 Certainly not with the bench rotation.
00:14:35 Not yet.
00:14:37 But one tweak tonight, Brown and Tatum's minutes flipped.
00:14:42 Brown played-- I mean, Tatum played the entire first quarter.
00:14:46 That's not something-- that looked like a thing
00:14:48 that they were doing different.
00:14:50 I don't know whether this was--
00:14:52 let's try to get it into the paint
00:14:53 just to see if we can do it all game long and not shoot threes.
00:14:56 I think it was that they just didn't think
00:14:59 there was an interior presence there
00:15:01 that they had to worry about.
00:15:02 So they just decided to do that.
00:15:03 And Philly played small.
00:15:06 Yeah, I mean, considered effort, sure.
00:15:07 I would imagine at some point in the game,
00:15:10 I would think, whether it was Joe or the assistant coaches,
00:15:13 said, guys, it's working.
00:15:15 Keep doing it.
00:15:16 Let's keep pounding it down low.
00:15:18 Let's drive.
00:15:18 Let's be aggressive.
00:15:20 They got Horford involved.
00:15:21 I mean, it was definitely a different attack style.
00:15:24 I mean, Brown only took two threes, I think, tonight.
00:15:27 Tatum was the only guy who was taking threes tonight.
00:15:30 And that is definitely unique.
00:15:31 So I would not be shocked if there was some sort of--
00:15:35 whether it was at halftime, whether it was in a timeout
00:15:37 in the beginning-- whenever it was,
00:15:40 there was something that was said
00:15:42 that they made an emphasis to pass up some of those threes,
00:15:45 whether they were forced or not.
00:15:48 And take it interior.
00:15:51 Take it interior.
00:15:53 That's it.
00:15:54 As the kids say.
00:15:55 Yeah, take it interior, Arnold.
00:15:57 Take it interior, right?
00:15:59 Just take it interior.
00:16:02 That's what happens.
00:16:03 And that's good.
00:16:04 We do have-- Joe Mizzoula calls it one of the best games
00:16:09 of the year for Boston.
00:16:12 OK.
00:16:14 Interesting.
00:16:16 And that was the game that they didn't shoot any threes.
00:16:18 What are you saying here, that they learned?
00:16:21 They got good information from the game.
00:16:22 This was an informational gathering experience.
00:16:26 Joe will elaborate for us.
00:16:28 We'll hear from Joe.
00:16:29 We'll hear from the rest of the players.
00:16:31 We will hear from Bobby Manning and Josue Pavon, presumably,
00:16:34 when they get it together down at the Garden.
00:16:38 And we'll kind of keep talking.
00:16:41 We'll talk a little about the Sixers, too, in general.
00:16:45 Are they toast?
00:16:46 Is the Embiid thing a pipe dream?
00:16:48 Is it really happening?
00:16:49 Is he coming back?
00:16:50 I will say, if he comes-- look, he
00:16:54 hurt himself before the playoffs last year.
00:16:56 He was supposed to miss time, or before that series.
00:17:00 And he only missed a game.
00:17:03 I don't put it past this guy to come back on 10 seconds
00:17:08 worth of rehab off of that knee and be close,
00:17:11 conditioning-wise, going to be a problem, but still be a force.
00:17:16 I'd rather not them be the eight seed.
00:17:19 If Embiid returns, that's just my opinion.
00:17:22 No, I mean, if Embiid comes back,
00:17:25 they're obviously a team that you
00:17:27 need to be on the lookout for.
00:17:29 But as of right now, John, they are toast.
00:17:31 I don't know if the report that Embiid's a month away--
00:17:33 I don't know if that's just coming from the Embiid camp,
00:17:36 or that's just to keep the Sixers spirits high.
00:17:40 But they're losing every which way right now.
00:17:42 They don't have enough talent without Embiid.
00:17:44 And even when Embiid does come back, if he's at 75%,
00:17:48 that's not enough.
00:17:50 You need an Embiid to be close to MVP level
00:17:54 to get this Sixers team anywhere near the NBA finals.
00:17:58 Yeah, they can be an annoying first-round opponent
00:18:00 for somebody.
00:18:02 But I'm under the impression that Embiid's not
00:18:05 going to get back to 90% or more based on this injury,
00:18:11 especially if he rushes back a little bit.
00:18:13 So it would be foolish for the Sixers
00:18:18 to overdo it with him anyways, because he still hopefully
00:18:22 has some good years left.
00:18:23 And you really don't want to jeopardize that
00:18:25 by forcing him back to try to win a playoff series.
00:18:30 Get smoked by a one seed, right?
00:18:32 Yeah, exactly.
00:18:32 I mean, they're not good enough.
00:18:35 They're not good enough.
00:18:36 They're just not.
00:18:37 And so yeah, to answer your question, I think they're toast.
00:18:40 And I know Bobby's going to say that they're toast, too.
00:18:42 So nothing to see here doing the work for us.
00:18:46 Last time Celtics made five or fewer threes in a win
00:18:49 was six years ago, January 2018.
00:18:52 I believe it.
00:18:52 I'm willing to believe that.
00:18:54 I'll take it to the bank.
00:18:55 I'll believe that, too.
00:18:56 Good stat.
00:18:57 Because you would think that they're going to probably
00:18:59 lose those games, especially in today's NBA,
00:19:03 where it's so three-point heavy.
00:19:05 Yeah.
00:19:07 Gregory Leclerc, did I miss you guys crapping all over JB?
00:19:10 No.
00:19:11 Am I missing something?
00:19:12 Some people just come here spoiling for a fight, Jimmy.
00:19:15 I'll tell you that.
00:19:16 So he's being sarcastic.
00:19:21 Because why would we talk shit about JB?
00:19:24 Because you do all the time.
00:19:25 And I don't like it.
00:19:27 Oh.
00:19:29 Poor Greg.
00:19:30 I'm sorry, Greg.
00:19:31 Sad Greg.
00:19:32 Old Greg.
00:19:33 Greg Louise will tell you how nice
00:19:37 we've been to JB coming out of the break here.
00:19:40 Yeah.
00:19:40 OK?
00:19:41 How nice we've been.
00:19:43 This is-- you know what, though?
00:19:44 We're not going to talk bad about Jaylen Brown
00:19:46 tonight because there's no reason to.
00:19:48 And we usually just say it like it is.
00:19:50 And some people don't like to hear that.
00:19:52 But the truth is, if you want the facts,
00:19:55 you come to the Garden Report.
00:19:57 We don't sugarcoat things here, folks.
00:19:59 And more often than not, we're right.
00:20:01 Sometimes it takes people a little bit longer to get there.
00:20:04 But we're usually right.
00:20:05 It is funny in the sense that, like, it's all funny.
00:20:09 This is how fans are.
00:20:11 This is how fans go.
00:20:12 It's fine.
00:20:13 Like, when they play well, yes.
00:20:18 Talk about JB, you jerks.
00:20:20 When he doesn't play well, like--
00:20:23 Yeah.
00:20:24 Yeah, they don't show up to that one.
00:20:27 Are we doing the seven turnovers tonight or no?
00:20:31 So is John ever right?
00:20:34 Surprisingly, yeah.
00:20:36 I am.
00:20:37 Quite a bit.
00:20:38 Quite a bit.
00:20:40 Quite a bit.
00:20:41 But nobody wants to admit it.
00:20:42 And that's fine.
00:20:43 I'm hearing we did get a Gary question on 3Pointers tonight.
00:20:47 Shut up.
00:20:48 I'm hearing we did.
00:20:49 Oh, it's a funny exchange.
00:20:51 I can't wait to see Joe be funny.
00:20:55 I am curious.
00:20:56 I like that people were like, JoeBot got information
00:20:58 from game.
00:21:00 I learned.
00:21:02 Yeah, information gathering.
00:21:06 Must apply to Friday's match.
00:21:09 Must download in time for Friday.
00:21:12 Yeah, three days to implement new strategies.
00:21:21 Three is more than two.
00:21:24 But yeah, that's what we got going on.
00:21:28 Oh, do I have it?
00:21:29 Do I already have it?
00:21:31 I'll be quick.
00:21:32 Is this it?
00:21:32 Amit, is this it?
00:21:33 This could be-- no, this could be the-- no,
00:21:35 this is probably best game of the year clip, if I had to bet.
00:21:39 Play it.
00:21:40 Let's find out.
00:21:41 No.
00:21:41 Why not?
00:21:43 I'd like to know.
00:21:44 Is this going to be the one where he says
00:21:46 it's the best game of the year?
00:21:49 Which one is it?
00:21:52 What'd you just do?
00:21:52 Did you hit your microphone and miss the thing you were doing?
00:21:55 Yeah, no, I caught it.
00:21:56 It was a light bulb.
00:21:57 OK.
00:21:58 But I did hit the microphone.
00:22:01 Joe Mazzulla on something coming up right now.
00:22:03 Here we go.
00:22:04 You guys are 0 for 2 from 3 in the second quarter.
00:22:07 Wasn't this the opponent where you
00:22:09 asked me if we shot too many threes, like game four
00:22:11 of the year?
00:22:11 Yeah, Philadelphia.
00:22:12 Full circle, huh?
00:22:13 What a beautiful moment.
00:22:16 Next, I'm going to ask about Maxie's shooting.
00:22:20 When you go 0 for 2, do you come to a realization
00:22:24 that we're not going to win this game with threes?
00:22:27 Is that hard to accept?
00:22:28 Is that--
00:22:30 No, I think--
00:22:30 --win this game with threes?
00:22:31 That's a good question.
00:22:32 No, I just think every game is going
00:22:33 to present a different challenge.
00:22:34 And so when you're looking at that shot margin,
00:22:36 you have to ask yourself, OK, why?
00:22:38 And how are we going to attack and defend at that level?
00:22:40 And so I don't want to get into a box where--
00:22:43 and we've never said we have to win doing this.
00:22:45 That's never been stated.
00:22:46 We always take what the defense gives us.
00:22:47 We're one of the best teams at doing that.
00:22:49 And that's kind of our offensive philosophy,
00:22:51 is take the best shot and find the best shot.
00:22:55 I don't know.
00:22:55 Is that true?
00:22:56 I feel like they have said that this
00:22:58 is how we're going to win games, by taking 53s.
00:23:02 But maybe not in those exact words.
00:23:05 Yeah, we need to shoot a ton of threes.
00:23:08 Again, here's the thing.
00:23:09 We're wrong, they're right, in terms of if the media says,
00:23:18 hey, it looked bad tonight.
00:23:20 Actually, I thought it was great.
00:23:22 If it's too many threes, well, what about the layups?
00:23:25 If it's not enough threes, I loved our approach.
00:23:28 Best game of the season.
00:23:29 You're not going to win this one, guys.
00:23:31 You're not going to win.
00:23:32 Hang it up.
00:23:33 It's not Kotni Jo, it's Contrary Jo.
00:23:37 Nice.
00:23:38 Got him.
00:23:40 He's just going to be that guy.
00:23:41 And that's it.
00:23:42 You know why?
00:23:43 And I've said this a million times before.
00:23:45 They don't respect us because they shouldn't,
00:23:48 because the media knows.
00:23:50 Because we're dog shit.
00:23:51 Because we're dumb.
00:23:53 Because when it comes to basketball--
00:23:55 Damn it.
00:23:57 Goddamn.
00:23:59 I hate getting reminded of it.
00:24:01 Or am I in therapy again?
00:24:04 Just like that.
00:24:05 You're stupid and worthless.
00:24:07 No, I mean, look, it's probably the biggest disparity
00:24:14 in football.
00:24:16 Nobody knows anything about football
00:24:18 compared to what these guys do.
00:24:20 But I mean, like I said, these guys are PhDs
00:24:25 and everybody else here just made it into the first grade.
00:24:31 So they're not really respecting where
00:24:34 the questions are coming from.
00:24:36 And that's why the answers end up being the way that they are.
00:24:38 But he did say that was a good question tonight.
00:24:41 So he did respect the question.
00:24:43 He did.
00:24:44 But I get it, too.
00:24:46 I mean, I get it.
00:24:47 I get it.
00:24:48 I get it.
00:24:49 I get it.
00:24:50 That being said--
00:24:51 It's like your friend who doesn't really watch sports
00:24:53 watches a game with you one time, right?
00:24:55 And he's like, Mac Jones sucks.
00:24:57 And you're like--
00:24:58 Winning the match.
00:24:59 You're like, you're right, but you don't know why he sucks.
00:25:02 Because you don't watch enough to know.
00:25:05 Yeah, you're just saying that because you heard me say it.
00:25:08 Yeah, you might be right, but you don't understand why.
00:25:11 You don't know enough to know whether it's right or not.
00:25:15 You're just saying it.
00:25:16 So then you contradict them.
00:25:18 And you're like, actually-- and then it's like,
00:25:20 and there you go.
00:25:21 And you're like, why am I doing this?
00:25:22 Yeah.
00:25:23 You're the well-actually guy.
00:25:24 You don't want to be the well-actually guy.
00:25:26 You do not want to be the well-actually guy.
00:25:29 Well, actually--
00:25:30 Nobody likes that guy.
00:25:32 And if you don't know that guy, you might be that guy.
00:25:36 Everyone has that.
00:25:36 And so then you start to--
00:25:38 you're like, I'm just going to prove that I'm smarter than you,
00:25:40 even though I actually think what you said is right.
00:25:42 I just don't like how you arrived at that conclusion.
00:25:44 And that's why those answers come out that way.
00:25:46 Like I said, I speak Joe.
00:25:49 I speak coach.
00:25:51 You speak Joe.
00:25:52 Joe GBT.
00:25:53 Joe GBT.
00:25:54 I get where they're coming from.
00:25:55 Beep, boop, beep, boop.
00:25:56 Yeah.
00:25:57 He did.
00:25:58 That's right.
00:25:59 That's a good one, Luis.
00:26:00 He did not mention Gary's family, which is good.
00:26:03 Is Joe growing on you?
00:26:04 I'll ask you that.
00:26:05 Is he growing on you?
00:26:07 Yeah, like a fungus.
00:26:08 Yeah.
00:26:09 No.
00:26:10 I mean, sure.
00:26:11 No, no, no, no.
00:26:13 I don't really have a strong opinion on Joe either way,
00:26:17 because I don't cover the games like that.
00:26:19 I mean, I watch him, and I kind of laugh at some of the things.
00:26:24 I think this team is so good, John,
00:26:26 that I give Joe credit for keeping them together
00:26:29 and being a part of it.
00:26:31 But I think you'd have to be a really bad coach to not get
00:26:35 these--
00:26:36 the talent on this team, at least one through six,
00:26:39 is difficult to lose.
00:26:42 So I give Joe credit for being able to win with these guys.
00:26:45 But it kind of ends there.
00:26:48 I think people are turning on Joe,
00:26:51 turning in the right direction on Joe.
00:26:54 I don't want to say made fun of.
00:26:58 I think he's fine.
00:27:00 I don't have a problem with him.
00:27:02 There's a lot of--
00:27:04 there were a couple of method to his madness sort of pieces,
00:27:08 where I think people--
00:27:09 I don't want to make a Belichick comparison on--
00:27:14 because you're not comparing anybody to one
00:27:17 of the most successful coaches in the history
00:27:19 of professional sports in an extremely difficult game
00:27:22 to have that kind of success, which the NFL is.
00:27:25 But it got to a point where you're like,
00:27:29 everything in my being says this is wrong,
00:27:33 but I have to give him the benefit of the doubt.
00:27:34 Joe certainly hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt
00:27:38 over a long enough timeline.
00:27:40 But you're just looking at this record,
00:27:42 and they're 46 and freaking 12.
00:27:44 And I don't know--
00:27:47 can you make a case--
00:27:50 my thought was they might win the championship in spite of Joe
00:27:53 when the season began.
00:27:54 That was kind of my thinking.
00:27:55 I think a lot of our thinking.
00:27:56 They might win it.
00:27:57 I still think they could probably have a better coach
00:27:59 or someone who's going to have them better prepped
00:28:03 for the playoffs, be able to make adjustments when things
00:28:05 get blah, blah, blah.
00:28:06 That still might be the case.
00:28:08 And they still might be able to win potentially in spite
00:28:11 of Joe.
00:28:12 But who's got them in a better position
00:28:16 and playing better overall basketball
00:28:18 than they are right now at this point in time?
00:28:20 How much better are you getting than this?
00:28:23 I mean, no.
00:28:24 I mean, at this point, Joe, I don't
00:28:25 think you're getting much better.
00:28:27 So I think we all have to reserve judgment.
00:28:29 But I think the real opinions on Joe
00:28:33 are going to come out in the playoffs this year.
00:28:35 And to me, it's championship or bust.
00:28:38 So maybe that's unfair.
00:28:40 But I don't think it is.
00:28:41 I think when you look at the offseason this team had,
00:28:44 you look at who they brought in, why, the money they spent,
00:28:47 you look at the future, and you know that they're
00:28:49 going to have some tough decisions to make
00:28:51 with roster decisions.
00:28:54 And listen, if they win a championship,
00:28:59 no one's going to be able to say anything bad about Joe
00:29:02 or anything bad about Tatum or Brown or Porzingis
00:29:04 or anyone else.
00:29:06 If they don't, you're going to get a lot of criticism,
00:29:09 a lot of negativity.
00:29:11 And it's going to come at those guys, Tatum, Brown, and Joe.
00:29:14 And if they lose, it's depending on how they lose,
00:29:17 when they lose, the way they lose, all that stuff
00:29:20 is going to be important.
00:29:21 So right now, it's all fine and dandy.
00:29:22 It's the regular season.
00:29:23 We all expected the Celtics to be
00:29:26 in first or second place in the standings
00:29:28 in the regular season.
00:29:30 They're in first by a wider margin than any of us
00:29:32 probably thought.
00:29:33 And that's great.
00:29:34 But we also know that they got punked last year
00:29:37 in the playoffs.
00:29:38 So have they learned from it, as Joe learned from it?
00:29:40 Is he going to be able to coach a series against somebody
00:29:44 who might be considered a better coach, like a Spolstra?
00:29:47 It's no offense to Joe.
00:29:48 Everybody would agree that he is.
00:29:49 It becomes a bit of a chess match at that point.
00:29:51 So when Joe says, oh, tonight was a great win.
00:29:55 We learned a lot of things, or we got good information.
00:29:57 Good, apply that information to the playoffs,
00:30:00 because there's going to be times
00:30:01 where the opposing team is going to adjust to the way you guys
00:30:04 beat them and vice versa.
00:30:06 So I can't even answer whether or not-- yeah, exactly.
00:30:09 I can't even answer the question if Joe
00:30:11 is the right guy or the wrong guy.
00:30:12 I need to get through this whole regular season and playoffs.
00:30:16 And then I think that answer will--
00:30:18 I think it will have answered itself.
00:30:20 Yeah.
00:30:21 So that's kind of the thing.
00:30:24 A lot of people putting it here.
00:30:25 Yeah, regular season.
00:30:27 I get it.
00:30:29 I think that's the feeling with everybody, right?
00:30:34 The whole team.
00:30:35 Like, let's see them do it in the playoffs.
00:30:37 Who's a better coach for their team, Joe Mizzoula
00:30:41 with the Celtics or Jim Montgomery for the Bruins?
00:30:45 That's a good question.
00:30:46 Right now, the Bruins are reeling.
00:30:49 I think Montgomery legit choked.
00:30:53 I do, too.
00:30:53 In a very, very obvious way.
00:30:58 Totally.
00:30:59 Horrible.
00:30:59 Horrible.
00:31:01 He froze.
00:31:01 He didn't know what to do.
00:31:03 He didn't know what to do with the lines.
00:31:04 When Bergeron came back, he didn't know what to do.
00:31:06 He didn't know what to do with the goaltenders.
00:31:09 He really, really, really, really froze.
00:31:12 Joe didn't freeze last year, but Joe had some moments
00:31:15 where whatever.
00:31:15 But then you can also say that he pants docked rivers
00:31:18 in the conference finals in those last couple of games.
00:31:22 But again, yes, the story has yet
00:31:27 to be told in terms of whether Joe Mizzoula is the guy.
00:31:30 But they win it, yeah.
00:31:32 You're not going to be able to say anything here, there.
00:31:36 And all of this stuff just becomes weird, bellichicky.
00:31:39 But if they don't, I wonder what's going to happen.
00:31:42 I really do wonder what will happen.
00:31:44 I think if they don't make the finals,
00:31:47 he's in jeopardy of losing his job.
00:31:49 If they don't make the finals in a way where everything falls
00:31:51 apart and it's not going to be his fault,
00:31:55 it'll be the player's fault again.
00:31:57 But as we've said a million times,
00:31:59 you just can't squander this.
00:32:01 If it's like, OK, yeah, the coaches say, OK, well,
00:32:06 I got to get somebody in here that these guys will respond
00:32:08 to in the playoffs.
00:32:09 So I'm sorry, Joe, but you got to go.
00:32:10 And they'll bring in another guy again.
00:32:13 And on and on and on.
00:32:15 Fourth guy.
00:32:17 Who are you going to get, right?
00:32:19 Brad was mellow and let them do their thing.
00:32:21 Yime was in their face.
00:32:23 Joe is psychotic.
00:32:26 But what are you doing?
00:32:30 Do they hire from within?
00:32:32 I mean, you've got Cassell.
00:32:33 You've got Lee.
00:32:36 You've got some guys that some big, big hires.
00:32:39 People are going to tune in now and they'll be like,
00:32:41 people just in the show will be like,
00:32:43 they're freaking talking about who's
00:32:45 going to be the next coach of the Celtics.
00:32:47 We're not.
00:32:48 We're not.
00:32:49 Rewind it like 10 minutes and just watch.
00:32:51 Yeah, we're not.
00:32:51 We're not.
00:32:52 We're not.
00:32:52 We're not.
00:32:53 Shut up.
00:32:53 Everyone shut up.
00:32:54 Because now the chat's doing it, too.
00:32:56 This isn't the conversation we're actually having.
00:32:58 I'm just simply saying that, yeah, Joe--
00:33:01 You brought it up.
00:33:03 No, I'm just saying, have you changed your mind?
00:33:06 Joe was-- the two biggest question marks
00:33:08 entering the season were how Tatum and Brown would
00:33:12 fit with other players and whether they'd
00:33:14 understand their roles.
00:33:15 And it took a little bit of time,
00:33:18 Brown in the early part of the season, to figure it out.
00:33:22 But they were still winning.
00:33:23 They were learning on the fly, but they were still
00:33:25 performing well.
00:33:26 And the other question mark was Joe.
00:33:30 The players--
00:33:31 my question was, are you on board?
00:33:35 And a lot of the chat was like, I'm Team Joe now.
00:33:38 Yeah, and I think a lot of the players have come out.
00:33:41 Porzingis has been pretty vocal recently
00:33:43 about commending Joe in his coaching style.
00:33:48 So as long as they're winning games and the players are
00:33:51 happy, again, who the hell are we to question it, right?
00:33:55 I mean, it's working.
00:33:57 As long as it's working, I'm cool with it.
00:33:59 As soon as it stops working, guess what?
00:34:01 See you later.
00:34:02 How's that?
00:34:03 That guy.
00:34:04 That one-- oh, here we go.
00:34:06 Don't cover your eyes, Luis.
00:34:08 If we can't make at least the finals,
00:34:14 it will likely be on JB.
00:34:16 Look at these hypotheticals we're into it.
00:34:18 JB doesn't sign a Supermax, but a 1+1 like LeBron.
00:34:22 Let's start talking--
00:34:23 Yeah, come on.
00:34:24 There's no way.
00:34:26 That's just a really dumb financial move.
00:34:29 Yeah.
00:34:30 Yeah, take the bag, buddy.
00:34:33 Yeah, so anyway, we're waiting on Bobby--
00:34:37 Any word from these guys?
00:34:39 No, I haven't heard from them all game.
00:34:41 I assume they're there.
00:34:42 Of course not.
00:34:43 Yeah, of course not.
00:34:47 Of course not.
00:34:48 While we wait for them, I'll tell you guys,
00:34:50 if you want to jump in here, this February deal,
00:34:53 still going on.
00:34:54 150 bonus bets.
00:34:56 Not for long.

00:35:18 want to get involved in that.
00:35:19 That's going to be a ton of fun.
00:35:21 Both men's and women's college hockey, if you like that.
00:35:24 A lot of local teams are going to be in the Frozen Four.
00:35:28 Yeah, kid.
00:35:29 Yeah, kid.
00:35:30 Beanpot was like a preview of the Frozen Four this year.
00:35:33 Friggin'-- except Northeastern was like--
00:35:36 That is their Frozen Four.
00:35:37 --seven games under 500.
00:35:40 And wins it.
00:35:41 Won it.
00:35:42 Good for them.
00:35:43 That's more fun.
00:35:44 But I mean, you're looking at--
00:35:46 I mean, BCBU are one and two right now in the country.
00:35:49 That's crazy.
00:35:49 Every year, man, those guys are just freaking--
00:35:51 Old school, old school.
00:35:52 There was a dip for a little while with those teams.
00:35:55 Oh, he's around.
00:35:56 Like friggin'--
00:35:58 It's awesome.
00:35:59 I love it.
00:36:00 Always the same.
00:36:00 BC, BC Sports trying to make a little buzz.
00:36:03 They got-- what's his name?
00:36:05 O'Brien now coaching the football team.
00:36:09 Hockey teams.
00:36:10 But you're looking at four New England teams in there.
00:36:12 But anyway, so get involved here.
00:36:14 Once again, fanduel.com/boston.

00:36:25 Those are non-transferable bonus bucks.
00:36:27 Restrictions do apply.
00:36:28 Check out the website for more details on that.
00:36:32 Jimmy, what else do you want to talk about for tonight?
00:36:35 Are you getting mad about--
00:36:37 are you getting mad about Xavier Tillman yet?
00:36:41 It feels like the Stevens saga all over again, doesn't it?
00:36:44 I mean, they acquire the guy.
00:36:48 Everyone thinks, oh, nice little pickup there, low money.
00:36:52 Stevens came coming off a sneaky, quiet year.
00:36:54 And then they just never played him, ever, ever, ever.
00:36:57 So you get rid of him.
00:36:57 Oh, great, finally, they got rid of him.
00:36:59 By the way, Stevens is doing his thing in Memphis,
00:37:01 getting some playing time.
00:37:05 And then they sign--
00:37:06 and then they trade for another guy now in X.
00:37:09 We'll call him X. And he can't get on the court.
00:37:12 I'm not that upset about it yet, John, because again,
00:37:15 they're winning.
00:37:18 But I would like to see him get sort of acclimated
00:37:23 with the team.
00:37:24 I'd like to see some burns, see where they got here.
00:37:27 I mean, based on the highlights and the film studies
00:37:30 that I've done on this guy, he can
00:37:33 help them in a number of ways.
00:37:34 Good passing big, can switch defensively.
00:37:36 I don't know why they wouldn't throw him in there just
00:37:39 to see.
00:37:40 I don't think he has a huge liability factor to him that
00:37:45 would prevent them from doing it.
00:37:46 But maybe it's still injury-related, John,
00:37:50 and they're just not saying anything.
00:37:52 I can't figure it out otherwise.
00:37:53 Well, so that was my quibble, was about with Joe saying,
00:37:58 he likes to--
00:37:59 you had a stretch in the last game
00:38:00 where he didn't call a timeout and he let
00:38:02 him play through it.
00:38:02 He said he likes those games when they're losing things
00:38:05 in the fourth quarter because of the chaos and learn from it.
00:38:08 And sometimes you've got to get out of your rhythm
00:38:10 and figure out how to do other things.
00:38:11 Well, you know, it would be a little uncomfortable right now
00:38:14 working a couple of guys into your rotation
00:38:16 and seeing whether or not they could play.
00:38:17 It might be a little lumpy and bumpy,
00:38:20 but you are running out of time.
00:38:23 It's getting late early with this,
00:38:27 so they've got to figure it out.
00:38:29 And if not, if he's the 11th guy and that was always the case,
00:38:32 I just can't believe he's not ahead of Luke.
00:38:36 We get it.
00:38:37 I get it, Chris.
00:38:38 24 games left in the regular season.
00:38:40 This isn't a godsend.
00:38:42 This isn't the answer.
00:38:45 I'm definitely a little perplexed that he
00:38:48 can't push Luke a little.
00:38:51 I am surprised about that.
00:38:53 I really do think people are going to freak the F out.
00:38:57 Every Luke Cornett playoff minute
00:39:00 is going to feel like 100 minutes.
00:39:03 It is.
00:39:05 It is.
00:39:07 I tend to agree.
00:39:09 Yeah.
00:39:11 We're all watching the same film out there.
00:39:14 Now, again, Luke has been able to come in this year.
00:39:17 Getting late early, by the way, for the people in here
00:39:19 is a Yogi Berra quote.
00:39:21 And be just good enough to maintain and to do his thing
00:39:27 as the third center.
00:39:29 And for the money he's getting paid, fine.
00:39:31 Fine.
00:39:32 But it feels like Tillman, again, it's the ceiling factor.
00:39:35 It feels like he can offer more.
00:39:37 He can do more out there on both ends of the court.
00:39:39 He's aggressive.
00:39:40 He's physical.
00:39:41 He's a good passing big.
00:39:43 Talked about how he can pretty much switch
00:39:45 on multiple positions on the defensive side.
00:39:49 So toss him in there.
00:39:50 Throw him in the fire and see what he's got.
00:39:52 Maybe he can get some more burn than--
00:39:55 Throw this guy in the fire, too.
00:39:56 Joe Sway, throw him in the fire.
00:39:58 We're going to hear from Joe Sway Pavone.
00:40:00 First, we're going to hear from Jalen Brown
00:40:02 talking about the lack of threes in today's game.
00:40:05 Here's JB.
00:40:06 Love it.
00:40:08 Very good at shooting threes.
00:40:10 And I think a part of my job, my responsibility
00:40:13 is to get to the paint, to collapse the defense,
00:40:15 to make sure we get an open looks.
00:40:17 So sometimes I pass up threes in order
00:40:21 to try to get a paint touch because we
00:40:23 need a little bit more of those to help our three-point shooting
00:40:27 even more.
00:40:28 So a lot of times I take it upon myself
00:40:30 just to try to get to the paint, even
00:40:32 if I do have a wide open shot because I
00:40:34 know if the defense collapse, then
00:40:36 we'll be able to get some open threes down the line.
00:40:38 Everyone's just passing up threes now.
00:40:43 Everyone is all about passing up threes now, Joe Sway.
00:40:47 They've always done that.
00:40:48 Louise's heart is all aflutter.
00:40:51 I mean, that's what you're supposed to do when they're not
00:40:53 falling, right, guys?
00:40:55 Yes, it is.
00:40:56 Last year's team didn't always do that,
00:40:58 especially if they got like two or three points.
00:40:59 I wouldn't say this year's team has either.
00:41:01 Tonight they did, though.
00:41:02 But I'll say this.
00:41:03 Every single Celtics fan, on any night,
00:41:09 on any night the threes aren't falling,
00:41:11 that's what they're saying.
00:41:12 You're going to say it when Gary asks about it?
00:41:13 When Gary-- no, I was going to tie it back to Gary.
00:41:16 But we've talked about number of threes
00:41:21 versus the quality of threes and how important
00:41:23 it is to get paint touches and let it kind of flow from there.
00:41:28 And so yeah, when Joe says best game of the year,
00:41:32 it's like, we don't believe you.
00:41:33 But with Jalen, Jalen's been saying it
00:41:36 since last year with Joe.
00:41:38 Like, yeah, sometimes we just get three happy.
00:41:40 And I think that's his mentality.
00:41:42 I think a lot of people feel that way, too.
00:41:44 So yeah, I'm digging it.
00:41:47 I think that's what Joe's been trying to relay all along.
00:41:49 It's not about, oh, you have to hit a certain mark
00:41:52 or else it's a failure.
00:41:54 It's reading what the team--
00:41:55 I mean, what the defense gives you.
00:41:57 And if it's a good looking shot, if it's an open look,
00:42:00 he's not going to say stop taking those.
00:42:02 I think that's been the narrative with Joe.
00:42:03 At least that's what he's been trying
00:42:05 to get across all season long.
00:42:06 But it doesn't always translate.
00:42:08 But this game is a perfect, as he said,
00:42:10 sort of a template of what this team has
00:42:13 to do when the three-point shot isn't falling.
00:42:15 And that's essentially attack the rim,
00:42:16 get to the free throw line.
00:42:18 Jalen Brown had a lot to do with that in that first quarter.
00:42:20 And obviously, take care of the ball.
00:42:22 I mean, those turnovers, that's what essentially
00:42:24 kept the Sixers in it, right, along with their three-point
00:42:27 shooting or that hot streak that they
00:42:30 got on in that fourth quarter.
00:42:32 I can't even say this was a tale of two halves
00:42:35 because they got right back into it in that fourth.
00:42:37 All of a sudden, it's a one possession game.
00:42:39 I just think what Joe Mazzullo loved most about this game
00:42:43 and why he said it's one of his favorites
00:42:44 is because the adjustment that's something they did on the fly.
00:42:47 And they essentially knew exactly what to do.
00:42:50 It didn't take trial and error for them to get to that point.
00:42:54 They sort of did it almost immediately, or at least
00:42:56 gradually.
00:42:57 And all of a sudden, in the second half,
00:43:01 they altered.
00:43:03 They executed.
00:43:04 And Tatum had a lot to do with that at the end
00:43:06 of that fourth quarter, for sure.
00:43:07 But I mean, it was a group effort.
00:43:09 Drew Holiday had a terrific game.
00:43:11 Al Horford was great off the bench.
00:43:13 Port Zingas also getting some of those looks.
00:43:15 I love the way Derek White was finding the mismatch that low.
00:43:18 How many times did that happen when the Sixers put out
00:43:20 that three-guard lineup?
00:43:21 So I just think when you see how the South is countered
00:43:24 and how they were able to pull out this damn near 20-point
00:43:28 victory, obviously, that 16-0 run had a lot to do with that.
00:43:31 But also, just the way they were able to do that,
00:43:33 it didn't take them draining 10 or 20 threes
00:43:36 like we've seen in the past.
00:43:38 They only attempted, what, 20, 22?
00:43:40 22.
00:43:41 And let me ask you guys a quick question.
00:43:43 Strop ball.
00:43:44 And they win by 16?
00:43:45 Like, that really happens.
00:43:47 This or this?
00:43:50 I like this.
00:43:50 Wait, you're asking me?
00:43:51 Yeah, go for it.
00:43:52 Are we going--
00:43:53 You know Jimmy-- you know Jimmy Kears--
00:43:54 Are we going Brady Bunch?
00:43:56 Ask them, are we going--
00:43:57 I like this.
00:43:58 I like the skinny look.
00:44:00 What?
00:44:02 What do you say?
00:44:02 What do you say, Chad?
00:44:03 You see my bike in the video?
00:44:04 What do you say, Chad?
00:44:04 I like the Brady Bunch.
00:44:06 I do, too.
00:44:07 I do, too.
00:44:08 Wait, is there a third option?
00:44:10 It looks like a three of us.
00:44:11 The other one is--
00:44:12 It's better, yeah.
00:44:13 Wait, this is Brady Bunch.
00:44:15 This is Brady Bunch.
00:44:16 Yeah.
00:44:17 Damn.
00:44:18 Frigging kids.
00:44:19 I knew it was Brady Bunch.
00:44:21 I knew it was, but I think Bobby thought the other one was
00:44:23 Brady Bunch.
00:44:25 Bobby thinks this is around the horn.
00:44:26 Yeah, I definitely don't know Brady Bunch.
00:44:28 Bobby's like, oh, you're around the horn.
00:44:30 It's the nine box.
00:44:31 Right.
00:44:32 With everyone looking at each other and waving, you know?
00:44:36 That must have been some high level technology back then.
00:44:38 It's the Hollywood Squares, whatever you want to call it.
00:44:39 Yeah.
00:44:40 But when that dropped, that must have been some craziness.
00:44:42 People were freaking out.
00:44:43 Yeah, how are they looking at each other like that?
00:44:45 What's going on?
00:44:46 The supercomputer that generated that
00:44:49 was housed in a warehouse, to be able to put that up there.
00:44:54 Yeah, just to put the nine box graphic there.
00:45:00 Yeah, when it's all five, it's Voltron.
00:45:01 That's correct.
00:45:02 People say it's too loud.
00:45:04 OK, so Bobby, let's have your top takeaways of this game.
00:45:11 I heard you guys talking about the best game of the year
00:45:16 thing Joe said.
00:45:17 And I get what he's getting at there,
00:45:20 that they need reps against this level of switching.
00:45:23 And you need to have those looks and figure out
00:45:28 solutions against that.
00:45:30 But I don't love the performance overall against it.
00:45:34 They broke free late and got on transition way fast.
00:45:36 It gave them some trouble.
00:45:38 Yeah, it gave them some real trouble in a way
00:45:41 that if this happened against a fully loaded team
00:45:45 with real personnel to play the way Philadelphia did tonight,
00:45:49 you'd probably lose this game.
00:45:51 So I know people are going to be doing backflips over the fact
00:45:54 that they won a game shooting 22 threes.
00:45:56 It's not great that they were limited to that.
00:45:58 It's great that they found solutions to it.
00:46:00 And I do love that Al Horford, who's steadily been ramping up
00:46:03 his looks at the basket--
00:46:04 I think I talked about that after the Chicago game--
00:46:08 he got to the rim four times in this game and finished.
00:46:10 And that can sometimes be a tough shot for him.
00:46:12 But again, do you love the ball being in Jaylen's hands
00:46:15 as much as it was tonight?
00:46:16 Do you love Horford having to hit all of those
00:46:19 to stay ahead in a game like this?
00:46:22 Even forcing guys to make some of those tough decisions
00:46:24 at the rim, that's the formula I think
00:46:27 you saw tonight to beat the Celtics here.
00:46:28 And a more equipped team would have been able to do it.
00:46:32 So that's going to tell the story this year,
00:46:34 especially if it is a Clippers-Celtics finals.
00:46:38 The Clippers are the most equipped team
00:46:39 to play the Celtics that way.
00:46:41 That's how they've beaten them at different points
00:46:43 over the last couple of years.
00:46:45 So this is the formula right here.
00:46:47 The Nick Nurse, Philly, they put it out there.
00:46:51 So how do you feel about them going up against this?
00:46:54 Did you guys see the clip of Joe?
00:46:57 I think this is more family style sort of format here.
00:47:01 I'm going back and forth with this one.
00:47:03 Which clip of Joe, the one about the best game of the year
00:47:05 or the one where he was riffing with Gary?
00:47:07 What clip?
00:47:08 Are you still talking about the Brady Bunch thing?
00:47:09 What's going on?
00:47:10 Yeah, I'm still looking at the format.
00:47:12 Which clip from Joe, Bobby?
00:47:14 The one where he said it was the best game?
00:47:16 I asked him basically, how comfortable do you feel
00:47:18 against that level of switching, that kind of scheme?
00:47:21 And he just tossed up the stat sheet and said--
00:47:23 There, he gave you one of these.
00:47:24 Yeah.
00:47:25 (laughs)
00:47:26 He said, "Take that for granted."
00:47:28 How comfortable do you think they look against that kind of--
00:47:30 What did you do to Joe?
00:47:31 He liked you like a month ago.
00:47:34 Yeah, what happened?
00:47:35 Yeah, he seemed a little snippy with you, Bobby.
00:47:37 Yeah, I don't know what happened,
00:47:38 but I don't really care.
00:47:39 A little bit.
00:47:42 Good, don't care.
00:47:43 Good.
00:47:44 Listen, do they look comfortable?
00:47:47 Do they look comfortable against switching?
00:47:49 I thought so.
00:47:52 It depends.
00:47:54 You were also going a smaller lineup here
00:47:55 and it was agitating them a little bit there.
00:47:59 Just small, small killed them.
00:48:03 Yeah, until it didn't.
00:48:06 I actually think Philly probably waited too long
00:48:08 to get a big back in there late
00:48:10 and they got chewed up there during the run
00:48:14 that kind of ended the game.
00:48:15 But it--
00:48:16 Derek White made 'em pay, man.
00:48:17 Catching the switches down low,
00:48:18 whether it was Al or poor Zingas,
00:48:21 I just thought they got right into their offense,
00:48:24 and especially off of Philly's misses.
00:48:27 That's how you got out to that huge run.
00:48:30 Yeah, I'm not super worried about it.
00:48:34 I mean, they shot, they just didn't hit threes, Bobby,
00:48:37 but I mean, they got a ton of points in the pan.
00:48:39 They shot 50 something.
00:48:40 John, you're going up against,
00:48:42 and again, I don't wanna play this card
00:48:44 'cause I do agree that you gotta just beat
00:48:46 who's in front of you,
00:48:47 but you're going up against Lowry, Melton,
00:48:51 Toome, like that small lineup didn't pack
00:48:54 a ton of talent in it,
00:48:56 and it gave Boston serious trouble out there.
00:49:00 In fact, I tend to just say,
00:49:01 'cause I watched the Philly-Milwaukee game on Sunday,
00:49:04 Philly was running that lineup in that game too,
00:49:05 and just got blown off the court trying to run it.
00:49:08 And I was like, "That lineup just looks awful."
00:49:10 And they came into this one, I'm like,
00:49:11 "Uh-oh, this could get out of hand here
00:49:13 "in favor of the Celtics."
00:49:14 'Cause they started off the game great.
00:49:16 - Knocked on it. - And then that jam,
00:49:18 that jam against that small lineup,
00:49:19 I think they lost by six over that stretch.
00:49:22 You know, not a staggering deficit,
00:49:23 but again, your bench tonight looked bad
00:49:27 for the first time in a long time,
00:49:29 and I've been pretty big on them.
00:49:30 - Yeah, it's your bench, buddy.
00:49:32 - Yeah, no, I've been pretty big on them all year.
00:49:35 - Did they look horrible,
00:49:37 or did just Philly's bench just step up in a big way,
00:49:40 especially with the three-point shots?
00:49:41 - They looked horrible. - Mo Bamba?
00:49:42 - Luke wasn't great.
00:49:43 Hauser got played off the court.
00:49:46 - You're emotional, Bobby, don't say that.
00:49:48 Let's sleep on it.
00:49:50 - Yeah, I don't know, I don't think it was that bad.
00:49:52 - The bench? - I just think--
00:49:55 - Yeah, they all played bad.
00:49:57 First year was 0-3.
00:49:58 He did have the big steal late,
00:50:00 but in general, I had said it,
00:50:03 they had a run going back to November
00:50:05 where it felt like they were playing good games
00:50:06 pretty much every night,
00:50:08 and tonight they got outplayed in a considerable way
00:50:11 that actually impacted the game, I felt like.
00:50:13 Now, the starters just had a substantial advantage.
00:50:15 Philly's bigs couldn't stand with Boston's.
00:50:19 Mo Bamba and Paul Reed's not enough to win those minutes,
00:50:22 but I don't know, the second unit there,
00:50:26 that was potentially a difference in this game.
00:50:29 - So, I mean, here's the thing.
00:50:32 Let's jump ahead to the playoffs.
00:50:38 Everyone's saying-- - Are the Sixers dead?
00:50:41 - Boston's, no, Boston's bench has been good.
00:50:43 Boston's bench is gonna freaking terrify you
00:50:46 in the playoffs.
00:50:46 It's gonna terrify you.
00:50:48 And I was joking about it earlier, Bobby.
00:50:52 Al's gonna feel old sometimes.
00:50:55 He'll have some good games too.
00:50:57 Pritchard is gonna look overmatched.
00:51:00 He's gonna look like a G-Leaguer sometimes
00:51:05 when Hauser's shot's not falling
00:51:06 or when he's caught in switches
00:51:08 against really quick players like Maxey
00:51:10 who are just gonna tear him up,
00:51:12 or he's gonna get a really quick whistle on him,
00:51:14 and it's just gonna freak you out.
00:51:16 And like I said with Luke, I'm not being a jerk about it,
00:51:20 but I said earlier, every Luke minute
00:51:23 is gonna feel like 10 minutes out there
00:51:25 'cause it's just gonna be like, oh, how long can you?
00:51:28 It's gonna feel like they have to survive the bench
00:51:33 against good teams.
00:51:34 I don't believe in this bench against the playoffs.
00:51:38 I really don't.
00:51:39 It doesn't mean they can't, like, look,
00:51:42 you come close to playing even or you don't have,
00:51:44 what you don't wanna do is try 'em out,
00:51:48 realize how bad it was,
00:51:49 and then basically play your starters
00:51:51 for 90% of the second half of every single game.
00:51:53 And I think that's gonna happen a ton in the playoffs here
00:51:56 'cause they're not-- - I think it's especially
00:51:58 a problem against-- - They're not gonna feel
00:52:01 good about 'em, they're not.
00:52:02 - Against a switching team, it's especially a problem
00:52:05 because you can switch on the Luke,
00:52:06 and he's doing a better job hurting teams.
00:52:08 - It's really gonna mess with that.
00:52:11 But if you're switching and taking threes away
00:52:13 from the house or that way,
00:52:14 his game becomes a little bit one-dimensional.
00:52:16 So the guy you really need,
00:52:18 and the stats still back up the positive effect
00:52:21 of his minutes, I think he's second
00:52:23 in plus/minus period this year, Pritchard.
00:52:26 And he's the one who has the playoff experience
00:52:28 of those three.
00:52:29 His defense, to me, it gets a lot of criticism,
00:52:33 but I actually feel like he holds up well,
00:52:34 especially in isolation.
00:52:36 His isolation metrics are off the charts good this year.
00:52:41 - He's the guy. - He's statistically
00:52:45 the best ISO defender on the team, which is crazy.
00:52:48 But yes, it's not as bad as it seems defensively
00:52:51 where you figure he'd get smoked.
00:52:54 But I think he's just not consistent,
00:52:56 and that's the thing there.
00:53:00 - If you're fully loaded, I think you go to Pritchard at seven.
00:53:03 The problem is if you wanna go double big,
00:53:05 you do have to use Luke at least a few minutes.
00:53:09 So that's where you're gonna have to make a decision.
00:53:11 Do you want double big to be part of your identity?
00:53:14 It's been involved in pretty much every game.
00:53:17 So like you said last show, John,
00:53:19 is it one Luke rotation in the first half,
00:53:21 and then none in the second half?
00:53:22 - But this is becoming, exactly,
00:53:24 this is becoming indicative of what I expect
00:53:26 you're gonna see.
00:53:27 You're in playoff mode right now.
00:53:29 You snuck Luke in for 11 minutes,
00:53:31 but almost didn't bring him back in.
00:53:33 But if things didn't get a little hairy there in the fourth
00:53:36 and he went back to double big,
00:53:37 it ended up actually being,
00:53:39 whether it had anything to do with Luke or not,
00:53:41 a turning point moment.
00:53:42 They went on a 16-0 run from that point,
00:53:44 and the game was over.
00:53:45 After they kind of filly cut the lead to two, 91-89,
00:53:50 then it was 107-89, and that was the ball game.
00:53:52 But that was it, man.
00:53:55 Brissett didn't get minutes.
00:53:56 Springer didn't get minutes.
00:53:58 Cornette was reduced, and he got a few in the fourth.
00:54:00 - I don't know if the chat's still talking
00:54:02 about Tillman passing.
00:54:03 He's in the stay-ready crew.
00:54:05 He's even said it.
00:54:06 - He is, and when you get to the playoffs,
00:54:10 when you get to the playoffs and you're worried
00:54:11 about some of these guys,
00:54:12 I think people are gonna look back and say,
00:54:14 "You know what?
00:54:15 "I kind of wish we played Stevens a little bit more
00:54:18 "during the year.
00:54:18 "Maybe they should have given him more of a look.
00:54:21 "I'm kind of annoyed that we didn't rotate Tillman
00:54:24 "in to see what he's doing there."
00:54:26 All of that stuff could come...
00:54:33 What I don't get is, I don't get being complacent
00:54:36 with this bench.
00:54:37 If I were Joe, I'd be looking for anything
00:54:40 to give it a spark, just to see whether or not
00:54:42 I've got something else here.
00:54:43 You can't sit back and be like, "Oh, this is great."
00:54:47 It's been okay, but that's 'cause the starters are so good.
00:54:50 As we said at the beginning of the year,
00:54:53 it's not the bench, per se.
00:54:54 It's two bench guys playing with three starters
00:54:57 almost all the time.
00:54:59 So you're never, it's not like Youth League basketball,
00:55:02 five in, five out.
00:55:04 There's always stars on the floor,
00:55:07 and that's gonna make it right.
00:55:09 I gotta sit a whole quarter?
00:55:12 - Joe Sway, that's how you got playing time, bro.
00:55:15 - Yeah, get out of here.
00:55:16 (laughing)
00:55:18 - But for what it's worth, even if that is the dynamic, John,
00:55:21 they are number one in bench plus minus this year.
00:55:23 So it's been a good unit all year long.
00:55:24 - I know, I know.
00:55:25 - But it hasn't been shaken up.
00:55:27 It's just about the transferability to the playoffs
00:55:29 and the way you're gonna use it in the playoffs.
00:55:32 - I think it's gonna give everybody,
00:55:35 it's gonna stress everybody out in the playoffs, man.
00:55:37 - I just think this is what it's gonna look like,
00:55:39 more or less.
00:55:39 I mean, the rotations, playoff minutes.
00:55:41 You have to assume Al's gonna get a little uptick
00:55:44 to about 25-ish, something close to what we saw last year.
00:55:46 Maybe the production won't be the same,
00:55:47 but usage will, 'cause they're gonna need him.
00:55:50 He really does help these guys
00:55:52 when the starters need a rest.
00:55:55 Bobby and I, we saw him talking to Cornett on the bench,
00:55:58 getting guys, making sure everyone's still on the same page
00:56:01 and all that stuff.
00:56:02 That's who Al is as a teammate.
00:56:03 But what he does on the floor, it's just equally as important.
00:56:06 He's not one of these Udonis Haslam type of guys
00:56:08 at this point in his career.
00:56:09 So I just think that when you couple that
00:56:11 with guys like Pritchard and Hauser, a little Cornett,
00:56:14 I mean, this is what it's gonna look like in the playoffs.
00:56:17 This is the reward of having, easily,
00:56:19 the best starting five in the NBA.
00:56:21 I mean, that's still proven.
00:56:23 - So the bench plus minus is a totally misleading stat
00:56:26 because they're playing with starters.
00:56:28 So when they're out there, they're being carried.
00:56:31 So a lot of people are like,
00:56:33 "Yeah, they're the worst scoring bench in the league,
00:56:35 but their plus minus is good."
00:56:36 I'm sorry, I don't think that that's the right stat
00:56:39 to be looking at because they're out there.
00:56:42 - They all have narrow roles
00:56:43 and they have to do a few small things
00:56:45 to actually succeed in their roles.
00:56:46 Like if Luke comes in and tests two or three shots
00:56:49 and finishes the one shot he gets, he did his job.
00:56:54 - He's gotta disrupt like three alley-oops
00:56:56 right in the first couple of minutes
00:56:57 'cause that's what teams do, right?
00:56:58 They just target him and he's getting better at that.
00:57:01 So I think that we saw a little bit of that
00:57:04 against Philly, I thought tonight,
00:57:05 where he forced a couple of turnovers there
00:57:07 and got the Celtics' momentum going a little bit.
00:57:10 So that's his role,
00:57:13 especially when he's coming in
00:57:14 in those minutes in the first half.
00:57:16 - Yeah, and Derek, I'm not contesting this,
00:57:18 but everyone plays with starters.
00:57:20 No one plays with six all-star,
00:57:24 like the Celtics are basically an all-star team.
00:57:29 So they're not out there with just starters.
00:57:31 Some bench guys are playing with Jay Crowder,
00:57:34 who's a starter.
00:57:35 That's not the same as playing with White or Holiday.
00:57:38 That's what I mean is you're basically playing with,
00:57:41 you're on the floor with three all-star caliber level people
00:57:45 at all times.
00:57:46 It's totally different than other teams, totally different.
00:57:49 - Yeah, it's like the old days when most of the time
00:57:52 you saw Pierce Garnett or Ray out there
00:57:56 or Pierce Garnett Rondo,
00:57:57 one of those guys usually out there.
00:57:59 So now these guys, they have at least two-
00:58:01 - Multiple.
00:58:02 - All-stars, three all-stars out there.
00:58:05 - But don't you need a-
00:58:06 - But that's the thing is like-
00:58:07 - Don't you need a bit of a-
00:58:08 - That's the difference.
00:58:09 Old bench, sorry, Jimmy, old bench was,
00:58:11 it's Tatum and a bunch of bums
00:58:14 or Brown and a bunch of bums.
00:58:15 Can you live?
00:58:16 Now it's not that anymore.
00:58:17 It's totally different.
00:58:18 And you always have one capable point guard in there too
00:58:21 with Holiday or White.
00:58:22 But anyway, Jimmy, go ahead.
00:58:23 - Right.
00:58:24 - Well, no, I was gonna say,
00:58:25 we talked about this when they traded for Tillman.
00:58:27 We said, okay, this looks like a player
00:58:30 that if they had to go to him,
00:58:32 people wouldn't be clenching their butt cheeks
00:58:35 because they were completely nervous about this situation.
00:58:39 Whereas if you went to some other guys on this bench,
00:58:41 maybe you would be.
00:58:42 So to everyone else's point,
00:58:45 wouldn't this be the perfect time to get him in the game,
00:58:48 get some running, get some burns
00:58:49 so that if that situation does rise,
00:58:51 and again, knock on wood that it doesn't
00:58:54 or does whatever you to knock on wood for,
00:58:57 because that means there's some sort of injury
00:59:01 or there's some reason to have a guy playing
00:59:03 less minutes than normal.
00:59:04 But that's possible.
00:59:05 And if it happens, you don't have to say,
00:59:07 oh, there goes the season.
00:59:08 If you have a couple of guys off the bench
00:59:10 who you feel confident in that can hold down the fort,
00:59:13 getting that can just play those extra minutes
00:59:15 and make up for what you've lost in Snooker Cassidy.
00:59:17 Now, of course, if you lose Tatum or Brown,
00:59:19 that's a different story.
00:59:20 But I'm talking about if Al has to play limited minutes
00:59:22 or if Porzingis has to play limited minutes
00:59:25 for whatever reason, you need to have a guy like Tillman,
00:59:27 who we've seen do it in Memphis,
00:59:32 give him some of that playing time
00:59:33 and see how he plays with these guys
00:59:35 so that if you do have to go to him later on
00:59:36 or into the playoffs, it's not a complete,
00:59:38 like, who's this guy situation.
00:59:41 - Can't just throw him in when the time comes.
00:59:44 - Right, but Bobby, they got an eight game lead.
00:59:46 - Get Tillman in the fucking games, okay?
00:59:48 - Yeah, they got an eight game lead
00:59:50 in the standings right now.
00:59:52 - Like, why is he, and again, I love Luke.
00:59:55 I think he's gonna be there when the time comes,
00:59:57 but like, why'd you trade for a guy
00:59:59 and put him in the stay ready crew?
01:00:00 - You traded stay ready crew.
01:00:04 - Well, you traded, yeah, you went from stay ready
01:00:06 to continue to stay ready.
01:00:08 - You make it sound like it's a downgrade.
01:00:09 What do you mean?
01:00:10 - So what was the point?
01:00:12 - They traded the guy, Bobby, they traded the guy
01:00:14 who they were never gonna play.
01:00:15 - Good point, exactly right, Bobby.
01:00:17 - They wanted to scrap her in the middle.
01:00:19 - But it's not like you got him for free.
01:00:20 You gave up two seconds, so.
01:00:22 - You gave up two, your two entire second round picks,
01:00:25 you gave up that, you know, so.
01:00:27 - This is the Mascala situation again,
01:00:29 and Tillman, you know, you could keep him long term,
01:00:32 maybe that's--
01:00:32 - Mascala, by the way, bought out Tillman,
01:00:34 and everybody in the chat is all in a tizzy about it.
01:00:37 - A year ago they traded for Mascala,
01:00:40 and they never used him.
01:00:42 So it was just kind of a waste of two seconds.
01:00:44 Maybe Tillman stays around after this,
01:00:46 but you do have to use him, I think,
01:00:48 to make two seconds worthwhile.
01:00:49 It's not nothing that you gave up.
01:00:51 - Yeah, but it's kind of like you didn't give him a try,
01:00:53 man, like Mascala got, he had that first game,
01:00:56 and then he had a couple of stints out there.
01:00:58 Obviously, Joe didn't like what he saw,
01:00:59 so then all of a sudden he was in his leather jacket
01:01:01 for the rest of the season.
01:01:02 I mean, this is what happened.
01:01:04 Doesn't mean something's gonna happen with Tillman.
01:01:05 - What was the Blake talk, Bobby?
01:01:06 I think you were like heading the charge
01:01:09 of the Blake talk this week.
01:01:10 - They were recruiting him,
01:01:11 or at least a couple of guys were, including Garrett.
01:01:15 - Pritchard and White went on a podcast
01:01:16 and said that around December,
01:01:19 they made a pitch to him to jump back on the team,
01:01:22 and they all basically got the answer
01:01:24 that he's focused on family.
01:01:26 And I think that door's pretty much shut now
01:01:28 with them going out and getting Tillman.
01:01:30 So, didn't really work.
01:01:32 I think that was kind of his mindset.
01:01:33 - I'm gonna echo this.
01:01:35 What a, that's not a guy to come help you.
01:01:38 That's, hey, come hang out with us and win a championship
01:01:41 'cause we like having you around.
01:01:42 - Yeah, no shit.
01:01:43 They're not gonna get anybody right now
01:01:45 that's gonna help them.
01:01:47 They're not gonna, they have no interest.
01:01:49 There's already guys on this team that can help them
01:01:51 that they choose not to help them.
01:01:53 So why are they gonna go find somebody on the street?
01:01:55 He's just a guy that can hang out in the second bus
01:01:58 and keep the vibes going.
01:01:59 You gotta have a vibes guy, John.
01:02:01 You gotta have a good vibes guy on the team.
01:02:03 Apparently that's been Blake Griffin for a couple years.
01:02:05 - He's a mascot.
01:02:06 Yeah, no, but they've got good vibes.
01:02:09 Porzingis is a walking good.
01:02:11 - Porzingis is one of those guys.
01:02:12 - Yeah, you can never have enough good vibes.
01:02:14 - Cornette's awesome on there.
01:02:16 You know, like, you know.
01:02:18 - No, of course.
01:02:19 I'm not saying that they don't have enough guys.
01:02:20 - I think Blake wants to play.
01:02:22 He actually got to play last year.
01:02:23 So that was a big incentive.
01:02:24 - I, yeah, who knows. - Well, Blake wants to play
01:02:27 except he just said he doesn't wanna play, so.
01:02:29 - Oh, like if he was gonna join the team,
01:02:32 he would actually wanna play, not be the mascot.
01:02:35 - You think that's what it is, Bob?
01:02:36 You think he's been ramping up all season?
01:02:38 I don't know. - Yeah, he's not gonna,
01:02:39 he's not, he's not gonna take on a full-time job.
01:02:43 - He doesn't want that ring?
01:02:44 He doesn't want that, I'm surprised
01:02:45 he doesn't wanna jump on and grab that ring.
01:02:48 - He's golfing, he's doing his comedies.
01:02:51 - He can still do all those things on the Celtics though.
01:02:53 That's the beauty of it.
01:02:54 - Yeah, you gotta show up there, Blake.
01:02:56 - Who's got that thing beeping behind the,
01:02:58 mute yourself for a minute.
01:02:59 Thank you.
01:03:01 My God.
01:03:02 - This is my spot now, man.
01:03:03 This is the, this is the opposing team.
01:03:06 - Mike Palumbo from the top row.
01:03:08 Longtime listener, always tuning in post game.
01:03:11 This is really with Bobby and Joe Suede at Denver Fund.
01:03:15 Row one behind the bench.
01:03:16 - Oh wow, that's $90 I think that we've got
01:03:20 to get them to Denver Fund.
01:03:21 - Oh right, 'cause you got, what's her name, from New York.
01:03:25 - Yes, that's right.
01:03:26 - Who was that?
01:03:28 - Pocket all of this, that's cool.
01:03:30 Jimmy, you don't mind, right?
01:03:31 - I got it.
01:03:32 - No, only if you guys go.
01:03:33 If you don't go, it gets, it goes back into my pocket.
01:03:36 - That's next week, we're gonna have to book it.
01:03:39 - Guys, send me the Denver Fund now.
01:03:41 All of our Denver peeps.
01:03:44 - Yeah, don't you guys have a house?
01:03:47 Do you guys have a house to stay in too?
01:03:49 Then you have to pay for a room, room and board.
01:03:52 - As of right now, they've got enough money
01:03:55 to get to Framingham.
01:03:56 (laughing)
01:03:58 - Peter Pan bus.
01:04:03 - Peter Pan buses to Framingham.
01:04:05 - Yeah, maybe make it to Worcester, I don't know.
01:04:08 - We need about 27 more stops.
01:04:10 - We could go to Maine.
01:04:12 - Yeah, no.
01:04:13 - Melanie.
01:04:14 - Maybe make it to Worcester,
01:04:15 but they won't be able to come back, yeah.
01:04:18 - Melanie, what's her name?
01:04:19 She said she's gonna put you guys up if you get out there.
01:04:23 So there you go.
01:04:26 - Yes, that's a huge expense right there.
01:04:28 Anyways.
01:04:30 - Worcester, head over to Worcester.
01:04:32 - Yeah, because the more donations it gets to Worcester.
01:04:38 - Bobby, all right, so here it is, ready?
01:04:40 - Father down the pike.
01:04:42 - Let's get father down the pike.
01:04:43 - Let me tell you, we're gonna do two more things.
01:04:45 Anything else on this game?
01:04:47 - God, no.
01:04:48 - Oh, shoot, I did the peace sign.
01:04:49 - What do you?
01:04:50 - Is that what it, we just figure out that's what it does?
01:04:52 - Yeah, no, but only John can do it.
01:04:54 It's the weirdest thing.
01:04:55 He has this connection.
01:04:56 - No, it's like a FaceTime camera thing.
01:04:58 Double thumbs up does the exclusion.
01:05:00 - When did you find that out?
01:05:02 - One of my--
01:05:03 - If this team wins it all, John's gonna lose it.
01:05:05 He's gonna be going home.
01:05:05 - One of my guys DMed me about it.
01:05:11 I'm telling you, only John can do it.
01:05:12 - Len, Len, one of our viewers.
01:05:14 - I've tried once or twice and it just doesn't happen.
01:05:18 And then I feel--
01:05:18 - It's like the double does something different, confetti.
01:05:23 - This is just like your webcam does this.
01:05:28 - Yeah, he's got some money.
01:05:29 - I think one thumbs up does something different.
01:05:31 And two, oh, it gives you the thumbs up.
01:05:34 And the two does the fireworks, there's a few of them.
01:05:36 - Do the two again.
01:05:39 - I don't know if it's gonna, you gotta smile too.
01:05:41 I, boom!
01:05:42 - You smile.
01:05:44 - There it is.
01:05:44 - What were you gonna say, I forgot.
01:05:48 - That's awesome.
01:05:49 - I forget.
01:05:50 - I love that those were going off
01:05:51 during coordinate talk last time.
01:05:53 - I know, I'm like, how the fuck did I get that going?
01:05:56 - What about middle finger?
01:05:57 Does that do something?
01:05:59 - Oh.
01:06:00 - It signs you off.
01:06:01 - Oh. - Yeah.
01:06:02 - Boom, power down.
01:06:02 - It immediately close you out.
01:06:04 - Speaking of middle finger,
01:06:05 someone got kicked out with like 10 seconds left tonight
01:06:08 and was like giving the middle finger to everybody.
01:06:10 Like it was weird.
01:06:11 - I guess he got into it with a Sixers fan, Gary.
01:06:14 - With Camp Pain, right?
01:06:15 - No, was that with the player?
01:06:18 Oh, I didn't know that.
01:06:19 - I think it was with the player
01:06:20 and then he got kicked out
01:06:21 and was just giving everybody the finger.
01:06:21 - It was like the final minute of the game.
01:06:24 Well, close to it, I think.
01:06:25 - Yeah.
01:06:26 - Yeah, but he says coordinate.
01:06:29 - It's always something going on, bud.
01:06:32 Whenever you suck at Sixers,
01:06:34 remember in Philly, that guy got kicked out?
01:06:38 Or someone got checked or something.
01:06:39 I forget what it was, but it's always something.
01:06:41 - There was something going on in Nick's section too.
01:06:43 - What are these guys talking about, Jimmy?
01:06:44 Is it just, are you guys having a side combo?
01:06:46 Should you try to-
01:06:47 - No, we're trying to-
01:06:48 - No, I brought it up and you guys-
01:06:49 I brought it up.
01:06:50 - Talking about a damn like interaction
01:06:52 that only they saw, I guess.
01:06:53 - You're still talking about the game here.
01:06:56 All right.
01:06:56 - Somebody got kicked out.
01:06:58 - You guys are trying to fire off filters
01:07:00 or whatever the heck that is.
01:07:01 - That's it.
01:07:02 - Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:07:03 Two other things.
01:07:04 I don't know what pointing does.
01:07:05 Hopefully nothing.
01:07:06 I wonder what the wind horse does.
01:07:07 - You got the lowest third.
01:07:08 You got the lowest third.
01:07:09 - I wonder what, nothing.
01:07:11 Jason Tatum's wrist wrapped
01:07:13 after falling on it the other day
01:07:16 and rubbing it a couple of times during the game.
01:07:18 Any insight there from our intrepid reporters?
01:07:22 Anything we should be worried about?
01:07:23 Don't say no if you don't know.
01:07:26 - I mean, it's nothing that they're being
01:07:30 crystal clear about.
01:07:31 I mean, I don't know if it played his performance
01:07:35 in this game, 'cause he didn't shoot all that great
01:07:36 until the fourth quarter,
01:07:37 but I didn't see it as something that was slowing him down.
01:07:41 But yeah, no one's really elaborated on it.
01:07:44 - I mean, he never addressed it fully
01:07:47 after the initial injury a couple of years ago, obviously.
01:07:51 So I don't think it had been an issue
01:07:54 to this point this year,
01:07:56 but is it something that flares up more easily?
01:07:58 He did take a mean spill.
01:08:00 Was that in Nick's game?
01:08:02 I thought it was in the Chicago game.
01:08:05 But either way, he did take a mean fall on it
01:08:09 and turn the ball over on one play.
01:08:11 I don't know what to make of it.
01:08:17 Obviously, it's sore if it's getting wrapped up,
01:08:19 and I think it's probably impacted him at different points.
01:08:22 - Just throwing it out there, just throwing it out there.
01:08:24 Others think Bobby--
01:08:25 - He's been putting a bandaid on that thing
01:08:26 for over a year, man.
01:08:28 - Probably three years.
01:08:29 - Yeah, his wrist burst.
01:08:32 - Remember when Brown's hand burst?
01:08:34 - Yeah.
01:08:35 - Yeah, it burst.
01:08:37 - Yeah, I do remember that.
01:08:39 - Yeah.
01:08:40 The last thing, a report today
01:08:44 that Jason Tatum told Doc Rivers
01:08:47 to give Jalen Brown his All-Star minute
01:08:49 so he could get the MVP.
01:08:51 Proof, Bobby, that they like each other?
01:08:54 Is this it?
01:08:55 Did you find it?
01:08:56 Did you find the proof?
01:08:58 - I think this, yeah, this shot--
01:09:00 - Yeah, just answer your question.
01:09:01 Yeah, just answer your question now.
01:09:04 - I mean, I think we've seen visibly
01:09:08 over the last week here,
01:09:09 them embracing each other a little more,
01:09:12 and that's all we asked for, John, right?
01:09:15 It wouldn't kill either of them
01:09:17 when they're asked to say something other than,
01:09:19 yeah, we've been together for a long time.
01:09:22 - My co-partner.
01:09:24 - Every time, going back years.
01:09:26 - We've learned to coexist over the years.
01:09:29 Like, ah, the warmth.
01:09:31 - Yeah, that's what I mean.
01:09:32 I'm sure that's what Bobby says when they ask him,
01:09:35 what's it like working with Joe Swayze?
01:09:36 - John, did you go off on this already?
01:09:39 - You coexist with one?
01:09:40 - At some point.
01:09:42 - No, I just came to Bobby's defense on Twitter.
01:09:43 - I got 90 damn tweets about it.
01:09:45 - Yeah.
01:09:46 - Oh, I know, I read them too.
01:09:47 I went at it with a couple people too.
01:09:48 - Simply asking, like, people talked about it,
01:09:51 the All-Star game, it was just rolling back the quotes
01:09:53 and everybody jumped all over him, so.
01:09:55 - Yeah, 'cause people don't read the article,
01:09:56 they just see the tweet and they cry.
01:09:58 - Yeah, the article was just like,
01:09:59 hey, these stars said it's important,
01:10:01 Joe Mazzuolo says it's not.
01:10:03 These guys have never been--
01:10:04 - Drew Holiday said it was important this year too.
01:10:06 - Yeah, these guys have never been warm and fuzzy,
01:10:09 and everyone's like, shut up, loser, and so.
01:10:11 - You know, Bob, it's interesting hearing that from Drew,
01:10:13 because, you know, there's a lot of speculation there.
01:10:15 That last season, Milwaukee,
01:10:16 things weren't so great between him and Giannis,
01:10:19 obviously you know what happened during the offseason.
01:10:21 I mean, regardless. - Yeah, it's gotten traded.
01:10:22 - Giannis wanted to play with Dame no matter what,
01:10:24 so even if they had the greatest relationship in the world,
01:10:27 I still think that trade happens,
01:10:28 but there's a lot of reports speculating
01:10:31 that that friendship kind of splintered, you know,
01:10:35 towards the end of the spring season
01:10:36 into the fall season, which often backs off.
01:10:37 - Also, though, All-Star Weekend,
01:10:40 Dame was asked his top five players,
01:10:45 if he were to do, you know,
01:10:48 like which five are you rolling with,
01:10:50 and he doesn't include Giannis.
01:10:51 - Yeah, that part too. - Interesting.
01:10:54 - Yeah, man.
01:10:55 - Kind of a wild answer.
01:10:58 - Yeah.
01:10:59 - Oh, shit.
01:11:10 And then he left.
01:11:11 Now we're in like Fall River.
01:11:16 Oh, shit.
01:11:21 Okay, no, we're in like, yeah, we're in like Springfield.
01:11:23 - We wanna go through New York.
01:11:25 - Albany?
01:11:27 - By Joe, what were you saying about that
01:11:28 with the dunk contest?
01:11:30 - With the what?
01:11:32 - Yeah, and it's funny 'cause he did say BAM
01:11:35 'cause he wanted to be in Miami so badly.
01:11:37 That's exactly right.
01:11:38 - Oh, no, what I was saying was-
01:11:39 - What were you saying?
01:11:39 - Yeah, no, I just think, you know,
01:11:42 that pass, you know, for the, like, listen,
01:11:46 the worst pass, Jalen gets all the smoke for,
01:11:50 oh, how could you jump over a guy that short?
01:11:53 And, you know, clearly that's not what he wanted to do.
01:11:55 And then the video comes out when you see
01:11:57 what he wanted to do with that dunk contest.
01:11:59 Everyone's like, oh, well, yeah,
01:12:01 he wanted to do the deep brown midair.
01:12:03 That makes sense.
01:12:04 I mean, that's what I thought all along,
01:12:05 but I just always, I always said from day one-
01:12:08 - But they didn't do it because they never practiced it.
01:12:11 And Tatum walks out with his fricking coat on.
01:12:13 These guys couldn't find five minutes to practice this?
01:12:16 - No, we did it.
01:12:17 And I'm glad we're into this now
01:12:18 because, Jimmy, I wanna hear your take
01:12:19 and I wanna hear John Moore, what he has to say about it
01:12:21 because to me, I called it the,
01:12:23 I got shit to do after this jacket.
01:12:25 Like that's what he was wearing.
01:12:26 Like, I'm gonna give you this off
01:12:28 and I'm going to continue my night and I'm out.
01:12:31 And that's exactly what happened.
01:12:33 So it should feel bad.
01:12:36 - What I would call horrible optics, horrible optics.
01:12:41 Watch, seeing the clip of Tatum walking out of the arena
01:12:45 during the dunk contest, which in most cases-
01:12:48 - There's 10 minutes left.
01:12:49 - It's the- - Can you do anything?
01:12:50 - It's pretty much the biggest event of All-Star Weekend,
01:12:54 whether or not you think it's trash now or not, it's still-
01:12:56 - You can do the classic-
01:12:58 - The event that everybody goes to,
01:13:00 all the players go to, the fans go to,
01:13:02 there's cameras out, there's celebrities there,
01:13:05 there's judges, and your teammate leaves.
01:13:08 As you go to the finals,
01:13:09 your teammate is not there to watch you finish it.
01:13:12 What did he have to do?
01:13:14 Don't forget, boys, and you were there.
01:13:15 You were in Indiana.
01:13:17 There wasn't a whole lot going on in Indiana
01:13:19 from what I have been told.
01:13:22 - Yeah, that's a good point, Jimmy.
01:13:23 I don't know why he would plan something.
01:13:25 And again, this is like an emergency situation came up.
01:13:28 Why would you plan something for the same exact time
01:13:31 of the dunk contest that your teammate is in?
01:13:33 Even if you're not a part of the dunk,
01:13:35 you should be there cheering him on.
01:13:38 - Well, Bobby, maybe he was a messed up-
01:13:39 - Give him like a fake,
01:13:41 give him like a massage on the side, laugh it off.
01:13:43 - I caught the video, John, it's pretty funny.
01:13:45 - It's just, to me, it's just a poor option.
01:13:48 - This is like Tangway Takes America, by the way.
01:13:50 Remember when we did that at BC?
01:13:53 We were gonna send these guys bopping through America
01:13:55 on the way to the Super Bowl.
01:13:57 - Absolutely.
01:13:57 - Tangway Takes America was hilarious.
01:14:00 Adam Hart, shout out to Adam Hart.
01:14:03 He put together that whole visual.
01:14:07 - I gotta hear, John.
01:14:09 - John Henry drove with-
01:14:11 - See, I love this, though.
01:14:13 Let it go.
01:14:13 Look at the conversation.
01:14:14 Let it go, guys.
01:14:15 They're best friends.
01:14:17 - I had to get it off my chest.
01:14:18 I had it in for a week.
01:14:20 - No, no, not you.
01:14:21 - No, it's fine.
01:14:21 - But that's the thing, it's like-
01:14:22 - No, I know.
01:14:23 That's the only reason why I'm talking about it now.
01:14:24 It doesn't bother me, though.
01:14:25 - I don't think it's like, it's not like the most,
01:14:27 like, yeah, there's plenty of, it's not like,
01:14:30 there's not an open disdain.
01:14:32 These guys aren't enemies.
01:14:33 It's just always been funny where it's like,
01:14:35 all you gotta do is just say this one thing
01:14:38 or do this one thing and everyone will leave you alone.
01:14:40 They miss it.
01:14:43 But anyway, good pub today 'cause they do that.
01:14:45 Simmons talks about it in his podcast
01:14:47 and he's like, you know what?
01:14:48 He's like, I think these guys
01:14:49 are starting to like each other.
01:14:51 And I don't disagree with that take in the sense that-
01:14:53 - I think, yeah.
01:14:54 - I do think that like the vibe of the team,
01:14:59 but the vibe of the whole team is right for them now.
01:15:03 You know what I mean?
01:15:04 I think they like all of it.
01:15:05 I don't think they liked all of it before.
01:15:07 And what you had was JB doing his thing,
01:15:10 Tatum doing his thing.
01:15:12 Tatum's got a couple guys who he was buddies with,
01:15:14 but they're kind of like the scrubs.
01:15:16 And then, you know,
01:15:17 Brown would hang with Marcus a little bit
01:15:19 and Grant is over doing Grant things.
01:15:22 You know, like it was just a little weird.
01:15:24 - I think we can all agree.
01:15:25 Jalen Brown was annoyed by Grant
01:15:27 and Grant hung around Tatum.
01:15:29 So Grant Williams was the reason why
01:15:32 everybody hated everybody on the team.
01:15:34 Now he's gone.
01:15:35 - I think there were enough people there
01:15:36 that the vibes in the room- - Can we pull up
01:15:37 that dream room in Greencliff?
01:15:39 - That was, yeah, we should.
01:15:41 - The vibes in the room weren't perfect.
01:15:43 I think they were just like, this is who we are.
01:15:45 I just think they're just generally just happier this year.
01:15:48 - I think when you look at the way the team is,
01:15:51 when you look at the way the team's structured too,
01:15:53 where it's gonna be read base,
01:15:55 where it's gonna be finding matchups,
01:15:57 you're not saying, all right,
01:15:59 Tatum's handling the ball for the stretch
01:16:01 and getting this many shots,
01:16:02 or Brown's gonna lead the bench on the ball.
01:16:05 It's all gonna be oriented around
01:16:06 who you wanna pull in the actions.
01:16:08 And it's all gonna be pretty straightforward and simple.
01:16:10 Who gets shots each night,
01:16:13 who has the ball on any given possession.
01:16:16 It's pretty predetermined in terms of who they're playing
01:16:20 and what they're playing against.
01:16:21 And my biggest thing is this,
01:16:24 maybe we talked a little bit about after the Bulls game,
01:16:27 this read the game, be the smartest team,
01:16:29 as Jalen talks about.
01:16:31 I think it's all made them better players
01:16:34 'cause they're all thinking the game out on the fly.
01:16:37 And that's, I think, a credit to Joe too,
01:16:39 in terms of how he structured the team,
01:16:41 the read base, player-based actions,
01:16:45 and attacking match-ups,
01:16:47 and having that be the structure of everything they do.
01:16:49 I think that creates that harmony off the court
01:16:51 and that you're not just funneling shots to Tatum,
01:16:54 you're not just funneling shots to Brown.
01:16:55 In fact, I think Joe said something specifically
01:16:57 after one of the last two games,
01:16:59 how can we figure out how to find the hot hand
01:17:01 within the flow of the offense
01:17:03 and not just be feeding them shots to play one-on-one?
01:17:05 And he thought that was a real area of growth
01:17:07 in recent games here.
01:17:09 So--
01:17:10 - We've been clamoring for that.
01:17:12 - Their offense just continues to evolve.
01:17:14 Like game in and game out.
01:17:16 - Yeah.
01:17:17 - It's eating so many different looks.
01:17:19 Like, I don't think there's an answer on how to guard them.
01:17:22 I think teams are just throwing crap against the wall
01:17:24 and everything's pretty much failing.
01:17:26 - Yeah.
01:17:27 But yeah, I think the comments here are all really astute.
01:17:31 I think there's a lot of that.
01:17:33 You don't have the forced leadership
01:17:34 with the grants and the smarts in here,
01:17:36 taking a lot of air out of the room
01:17:38 and feeling like they gotta be the ones to step up
01:17:40 when Brown and Tatum might've been like,
01:17:42 "Nah, man, don't."
01:17:43 You know, like everything's just kinda like,
01:17:45 it's just easier and it's professional.
01:17:47 It's like, you know, everyone just shows up
01:17:49 and Bobby just said it, knows what they're supposed to do.
01:17:52 I think that makes a big, big difference.
01:17:55 It's not, yeah, maybe you had, and again,
01:17:58 I don't think Brogdon was,
01:18:00 Brogdon, I don't think there's a lot of love for Brogdon
01:18:02 in that area too.
01:18:05 But you had a bunch of guys, you know,
01:18:07 the three guard situation there,
01:18:09 who should be in, who shouldn't be in,
01:18:11 who's supposed to be a leader, who's supposed to be that.
01:18:13 I, you know, I don't think they disliked each other.
01:18:16 I just think it wasn't as free and easy as it is this year.
01:18:20 So that's definitely good.
01:18:21 Everyone's loving the Muscala here.
01:18:23 Any other closing thoughts here?
01:18:25 Anyway, we wanted to point it out.
01:18:26 I think if it's fair to talk about Jalen not,
01:18:30 Tatum not practicing the dunk with Brown,
01:18:33 weird commentary about, you know,
01:18:35 coexisting with each other
01:18:36 and then him peacing out at the dunk contest,
01:18:38 you're gonna mention this too, because you know why?
01:18:41 It's all fair to talk about, okay?
01:18:43 It's all just out there and we talk about all of it.
01:18:46 So stuff like that is definitely good to see,
01:18:49 you know, Tatum advocating for Brown on Sunday
01:18:53 after he kind of, you know,
01:18:55 left him in the lurch on Saturday.
01:18:56 We like it.
01:18:57 - Let's play this Tatum clip.
01:18:59 - Oh, we're gonna hear from Tatum.
01:19:01 Go ahead, go ahead, Bobby.
01:19:03 - Real quick on Tatum.
01:19:04 Nine straight games with five plus assists,
01:19:07 6.6 assists per game over that stretch,
01:19:09 which was 2.2 turnovers.
01:19:12 It's really good stuff.
01:19:13 - Louise, oh Louise.
01:19:16 (laughing)
01:19:18 - She got it in there.
01:19:20 - I agree with this too.
01:19:22 I think, I think Smart, I think Smart had to go.
01:19:26 I really do.
01:19:28 And it's not because, I think there's a lot of love for him,
01:19:32 but I think it made such-
01:19:33 - Baskably speaking though, he's not missed.
01:19:36 That's what he said.
01:19:36 - No.
01:19:37 - That's putting it gently.
01:19:38 - Yeah, it is.
01:19:39 We were going to talk about, and yes, Louise, shots fired.
01:19:44 Tatum, by the way, talked about things getting,
01:19:48 them playing through difficulty.
01:19:49 We've said this a bunch of times this year, right guys?
01:19:51 Like, you know, they lose this game a year ago.
01:19:54 I think Jimmy texted on the thread.
01:19:56 This is where they blow this lead with three minutes left,
01:19:58 you know, whatever it was.
01:19:59 And then they pissed it away earlier in the fourth quarter.
01:20:01 We've had a lot of these, when they take these punches,
01:20:04 like they took early in the fourth quarter,
01:20:05 how many of these games went in the wrong direction?
01:20:07 Another example of them riding the ship
01:20:09 and self-correcting and figuring it out,
01:20:12 even though it did come after a Joe timeout,
01:20:13 which kudos to you, Joe.
01:20:16 - Yeah.
01:20:17 - Here's Tatum talking about it.
01:20:19 I swear.
01:20:23 - Psych.
01:20:24 - Obviously adding new pieces and guys
01:20:26 that have done special things in this league.
01:20:29 Drew's won the championship.
01:20:30 And learning from our mistakes, you know, in the past years.
01:20:34 Looking past opponents, if they have guys out,
01:20:37 we might let our guard down.
01:20:39 And, you know, I think we've just done a better job
01:20:43 of learning from those mistakes that we've made in the past.
01:20:47 - Okay.
01:20:53 - Okay, I'm glad we got that.
01:20:55 - I got nothing to add to that.
01:20:59 - Thanks, Jimmy.
01:21:00 - I didn't put it up there.
01:21:03 - No, I'm glad.
01:21:04 Glad that people needed to hear that.
01:21:06 - Yeah.
01:21:07 - Another thing, too, you look at that Joe's talked about
01:21:10 is when they do have these lapses,
01:21:12 they get out of them pretty quickly.
01:21:14 - Glad we got that.
01:21:16 - Like they blew the game back.
01:21:19 - There will be no Amit slander.
01:21:22 No one who sent you money to go to Denver will be slandered
01:21:25 and Amit will not be slandered on the show.
01:21:27 But go ahead, Bobby, sorry.
01:21:29 - Amit didn't send me money.
01:21:30 - They did.
01:21:31 What was it, the third?
01:21:32 They squandered like an 11 point lead, went down six,
01:21:34 or at least somewhere midway through the game.
01:21:37 They got out of those lapses pretty quickly.
01:21:39 And again, back to like the self-management and the team.
01:21:43 I think Joe's talked a lot about how like they figure out
01:21:45 what's going wrong in those spots
01:21:47 and then pull themselves out of it almost single-handedly.
01:21:50 And Joe did have a time out when they pulled within two,
01:21:53 I think at like 91, 89 there.
01:21:56 So this game got a little rocky.
01:21:58 I didn't love this game.
01:21:59 Like I didn't come out of it saying like,
01:22:01 ooh, this is amazing.
01:22:02 They really learned some stuff here.
01:22:04 But as you said, John, there's a lot of games in the past.
01:22:07 Similarly, this one that they lost.
01:22:09 And for them to go running away convincingly in the fourth,
01:22:13 the way they did,
01:22:13 it's a reason this team's gonna stack up there
01:22:18 regular season wise with some of the great ones.
01:22:21 - Yeah, I'm surprised, Bobby.
01:22:22 I feel like this would be one of those Bobby wins, right guys?
01:22:25 I'm really surprised to hear you say that.
01:22:26 - I am too, because he loved the Knicks win.
01:22:28 He was gushing.
01:22:29 - Yeah, you called it one of their best.
01:22:32 - Yeah, right, man.
01:22:33 - The offense was clunky in this game at times.
01:22:35 And again, if Philly stayed small
01:22:38 and stayed succeeding in that lineup,
01:22:41 this one might've gone another way.
01:22:43 But those bigs just, those bigs didn't get them enough
01:22:46 when they did try to go big and match Boston there.
01:22:49 - I want to address this, 'cause it's funny,
01:22:53 'cause you guys are saying it and I'll say it too.
01:22:55 This stuff, look, Kawhi Leonard was never the face
01:23:00 of the NBA, even though he was maybe the best player
01:23:03 for a year or two, you know, for a stretch,
01:23:05 or at least in the conversation,
01:23:07 because he's boring as shit.
01:23:10 This hurt, like, why is everyone looking at guys
01:23:16 like Anthony Edwards?
01:23:17 'Cause he's so freaking fun and entertaining and engaging.
01:23:21 This stuff does hurt.
01:23:23 To be the face of something, you gotta have some--
01:23:26 - Charisma.
01:23:28 - You gotta have something, right?
01:23:29 Even if it's negative charisma, you know what I mean?
01:23:34 Or a polarizing personality like LeBron, you know?
01:23:37 But you can't just, well, we just, you know.
01:23:43 - Yeah.
01:23:44 (laughing)
01:23:44 - Yeah.
01:23:45 - Just gotta go out there and play hard.
01:23:46 - That's a good point, man.
01:23:47 Even when LeBron turned heel, you know, it was still,
01:23:49 he had that chip on his shoulder and he, yeah.
01:23:51 - Yeah.
01:23:52 - Yeah.
01:23:53 - I bet--
01:23:54 - We just gotta go out there and do our thing
01:23:57 and just play hard and, you know.
01:23:59 - Yeah, yeah.
01:24:00 - Not worry about the outside noise, you know?
01:24:01 - We gotta do all the time, you know?
01:24:04 - Oh.
01:24:05 - He's gone, by the way.
01:24:05 - He's always like too cool for school every time he talks.
01:24:08 - I got one more thing for you, John.
01:24:14 Do you really believe--
01:24:14 - And that's it.
01:24:15 - John, all right, all right, Jesse, I guess we gotta go.
01:24:18 It's just for John.
01:24:19 - Do you really believe in Beats coming back in March?
01:24:23 - I think it's possible only because I didn't think
01:24:30 he was gonna play the entire Celtics.
01:24:31 - You're about to do the Rob thing?
01:24:32 - I didn't think he was gonna play
01:24:33 the entire Celtics season, series.
01:24:36 - I'm calling BS, Bobby.
01:24:41 I know you didn't ask me, but I'm calling BS.
01:24:42 - That's a great point, John.
01:24:44 If you forget about that, we were saying there was no way
01:24:47 he could play the whole series.
01:24:48 - I'm stunned that they're gonna do this if they are.
01:24:51 But I don't know, maybe this is their way
01:24:54 of keeping the team engaged
01:24:55 and trying to hold this thing together.
01:24:57 But again, I was, and I still don't know,
01:25:00 the reporting was bad off the tip.
01:25:03 You had reports at the beginning that--
01:25:06 - Well, they wouldn't use the term tear.
01:25:09 Yeah, they wouldn't wanna use the word tear.
01:25:10 - Well, no, they were using repair,
01:25:12 which would have knocked him out long, long term.
01:25:15 And if he's coming back--
01:25:16 - We went through this whole repair, repair, no.
01:25:18 - Yeah, the word-- - Repair or replace.
01:25:20 No, replace was the long term.
01:25:21 Repair is the, the trim is the repair, right?
01:25:25 - Well, that'd be removal. - That's what Rob had.
01:25:27 No, it's repair or replace.
01:25:29 It replaces the long time table.
01:25:31 The repair is the trim.
01:25:33 That's what Rob got.
01:25:34 So if it's a repair,
01:25:35 he could be on the Rob Williams timeline.
01:25:37 - And that would be four, six weeks or so.
01:25:41 That must be what they did.
01:25:43 - But if he does come back, Bobby,
01:25:45 we're talking about what, like 70%?
01:25:48 And B, like, I just don't think that's enough.
01:25:50 - Remember what Rob looked like coming back that year?
01:25:54 And then he started with the pain.
01:25:56 - But Rob relies on athleticism solely to be effective.
01:26:01 - Also, Rob is Rob.
01:26:02 He's never been good.
01:26:03 So compare him to MB, it is probably not fair.
01:26:07 - Well, MB's always been hard too.
01:26:07 - Taking 10% of Rob's athleticism away,
01:26:10 it took away 50% of his effectiveness.
01:26:13 Like he was, he couldn't, 'cause that's all he was.
01:26:17 - Yeah, and B can shoot his own free throw jumper
01:26:19 and watch himself and the guys to get to the free throw line.
01:26:23 - He's gonna, exactly.
01:26:24 He's gonna get his.
01:26:25 He's gonna get to the line and he can shoot his own.
01:26:27 - They need MVP and B to compete.
01:26:30 That's, they're not good enough.
01:26:32 And he's not gonna just be MVP and B when he comes back.
01:26:34 So I just don't think that even getting him is enough
01:26:37 for them to really make it.
01:26:38 - In a first round series, they're a little dangerous
01:26:40 if that's what it ends up being.
01:26:42 You don't wanna see them have-
01:26:45 - I think they're just annoying.
01:26:47 - Yeah, and that's any team first round.
01:26:49 Like the key to the first round
01:26:51 is gonna be them sweeping through it
01:26:52 and sitting back on the couch in Boston.
01:26:54 - Last year, the six game thing with Atlanta
01:26:56 that nearly became seven games,
01:26:58 that just set an awful tone for the playoffs.
01:27:02 So if it's Orlando, if it's Chicago,
01:27:05 you want one of those teams that you can just blow through
01:27:07 and not even have to sweat.
01:27:09 - Right.
01:27:10 - Yeah, do you remember wanting Buddy Heald
01:27:12 on this team at one point in time?
01:27:15 We definitely talked about it.
01:27:16 - It was a major non-factor.
01:27:18 - It's like a outside shooter type guy.
01:27:22 - Yeah, you know before-
01:27:23 - I pointed that out to Joe Swaye during the game.
01:27:26 I was like, "Oh, he's not good."
01:27:29 - At all.
01:27:30 Anyway, let's wrap it up here.
01:27:32 We got a little break and I think we deserve it.
01:27:36 I think we'll take it.
01:27:37 We're back though, we've got Friday.
01:27:38 - Hey, talk about Friday.
01:27:39 I can't wait for that one.
01:27:41 - Luba.
01:27:42 - How many did he have tonight, Joe?
01:27:46 - 45.
01:27:47 Crazy, crazy sequence that went down.
01:27:50 If you guys didn't see it.
01:27:52 - Oh, I did.
01:27:53 - He made an incredible no look,
01:27:54 but the game wasn't over, I'll leave it at that.
01:27:57 Former Celtic.
01:27:58 - I'll tell everybody what happened.
01:28:00 Max Struis hit a half court shot
01:28:01 to win the game for Cleveland.
01:28:04 - Former Celtic, Max Struis.
01:28:06 - Buzzer beater.
01:28:08 - Half court.
01:28:08 - Dallas on Friday, Golden State.
01:28:11 Golden State is always fun with Draymond Green.
01:28:13 And he's, I'll tell you this, you know what I can't take?
01:28:17 I'm already pre-anxious about it.
01:28:21 And absolutely just mind numbing,
01:28:26 lost to Golden State.
01:28:28 Every single feeling we've ever felt.
01:28:32 - The boogeyman is back.
01:28:33 - Everything we said today.
01:28:35 - Any good thing we've said about this team.
01:28:38 - Chris Paul is back too.
01:28:40 - I will unsay all of it
01:28:42 if they lose to Golden State on Sunday.
01:28:43 I will overreact to that loss like nothing ever before.
01:28:47 - Klay drops 22 off the bench.
01:28:51 I am going to overreact like crazy to that game.
01:28:53 - And you know the day game, fellas, so that just spices it.
01:28:56 - Yeah, and it has upset potential.
01:28:59 - Potential.
01:29:00 - And you know what?
01:29:02 I don't think you can rule them out
01:29:03 from making the finals again.
01:29:04 I don't know how I'm back here.
01:29:08 - I was just gonna say, I don't see 'em.
01:29:10 Yeah, I don't see 'em there.
01:29:11 I see only saving grace if the Celtics lose to them
01:29:13 is that you probably won't see 'em again.
01:29:15 - They can make that run, Bobby.
01:29:18 They can make that run to the finals.
01:29:19 - They can never rule them out.
01:29:21 - You can't do it, John.
01:29:23 - They have to get past some really good teams.
01:29:25 - I picked them in the finals in my preseason,
01:29:29 in my predictions.
01:29:30 - Yeah, but--
01:29:31 - Celtics Warriors.
01:29:33 - Nuggets, Timberwolves, Clippers.
01:29:35 - Remember the 2012 Celtics?
01:29:37 - Yeah, I do.
01:29:38 - Remember the 2012 Celtics?
01:29:39 They were not good,
01:29:41 but they just figured out ways to keep getting through games.
01:29:45 - They nearly got back to the finals.
01:29:46 - They had heart.
01:29:48 - And they still have courage.
01:29:49 They still have green.
01:29:51 - There's a lot of good teams out there.
01:29:55 - Brandon Bass was a bucky.
01:29:57 That reminds me of Brandon Bass.
01:29:58 - I don't wanna deal with them, that's all I'm saying.
01:30:01 - That would be a great rematch.
01:30:04 - As Charles Brockley said, they won't be there.
01:30:07 - Yeah, have fun in the play-in.
01:30:08 - You know what I don't wanna see, John,
01:30:12 real quick on Sunday?
01:30:13 I don't wanna see buddy, buddy,
01:30:15 I don't wanna see buddy, buddy Celtics Warriors stuff.
01:30:18 I just don't wanna see it.
01:30:20 - Oh, you mean Tatum and Draymond?
01:30:22 - It would be killer.
01:30:23 - Especially Brown.
01:30:25 - Buddy, buddy, Brown, Tatum.
01:30:26 - Especially Brown and Draymond.
01:30:27 He stepped on your balls and you didn't do anything about it.
01:30:32 Don't go there and dap it up.
01:30:34 Like, get serious here.
01:30:36 And you know what?
01:30:37 Get frigging X-Man into this freaking game.
01:30:41 - Unleash the X.
01:30:42 - And have him get in Green's face and see what happens.
01:30:48 - I want X-Man out there on Sunday.
01:30:50 - Yeah, I don't wanna see this.
01:30:52 I don't wanna see this again.
01:30:54 And we don't need--
01:30:55 - Buddy, buddy, kissing and hugging on the court.
01:30:57 I don't wanna see that.
01:30:58 They aren't your friends.
01:30:59 - I mean, Cornett picked up two quick fouls.
01:31:01 I wouldn't shop with the X-Man.
01:31:02 - And this is true.
01:31:04 Draymond's been buttering these guys up
01:31:05 about how awesome they are.
01:31:07 And then he's gonna come in
01:31:08 and he's gonna rip their throats out.
01:31:09 You know, like--
01:31:10 - That's the mind game he plays.
01:31:12 Yeah, man, spot on, spot on.
01:31:14 This is the message they wanna send.
01:31:15 So, Golden State, this is like,
01:31:17 by far the biggest game of the season, I feel like.
01:31:19 You know, they're that type of team
01:31:20 that they need to win like this
01:31:22 to sort of get them, get that momentum.
01:31:24 - Yeah, they need something.
01:31:25 - That loss up there was bad.
01:31:28 - Oh, yeah. - In the air.
01:31:30 - That was--
01:31:30 - This is when, this is like a hockey game
01:31:32 when you call up your goon
01:31:35 because you know that they've gotta fight the other goon
01:31:38 on the other team.
01:31:39 And he's only there for one reason.
01:31:41 So, get your goon in there.
01:31:42 - He's coming up from Providence.
01:31:44 Yup, he's on the way up for the game.
01:31:45 - He comes out, takes the helmet off
01:31:47 and just walks right over.
01:31:48 He's like, "We're doing this?"
01:31:49 Yup, and that's what you gotta do.
01:31:51 - 45 seconds into the game, done.
01:31:54 - Yeah.
01:31:55 - Yeah, I like that too. - That's it.
01:31:57 Thank you, I'll go back to Providence now.
01:31:59 Anyway, yeah, thank you guys for hanging out with us.
01:32:03 Celtics 46 and 12, still going strong.
01:32:08 Couple fun games coming up this weekend
01:32:10 which we will be covering. - Nine straight.
01:32:13 - Yes, nine straight wins.
01:32:15 Seven games up on the Cavs in the East.
01:32:17 Could have been more if not for a prayer.
01:32:19 - Strews hitting the prayer.
01:32:21 - Yeah.
01:32:22 - Thank you guys for hanging out.
01:32:24 Thank you for being active in the chat as always.
01:32:26 Always fun.
01:32:27 I know you guys keep the people,
01:32:30 keep everybody engaged in the chat
01:32:32 and keep it going for us.
01:32:34 So, we do appreciate that.
01:32:36 We doing this?
01:32:37 Which one is it?
01:32:37 Are we out of here?
01:32:39 Let's go.
01:32:40 Boom.
01:32:41 - Only he can do it, I'm telling you.
01:32:42 - Nine straight and fireworks.
01:32:44 - Only I can do it.
01:32:46 - Wait, Robins got an outro for us, I think.
01:32:48 - No, he doesn't.
01:32:49 - He said he was gonna work on an outro.
01:32:51 - Man, he had a phenomenal game.
01:32:54 - Phenomenal.
01:32:55 (laughing)
01:32:57 - Poor for doubt, I think it's an option.
01:32:59 (laughing)
01:33:02 - That did not sound like a chair.
01:33:04 - It was a freaking chair.
01:33:06 It does sound like a chair.
01:33:07 (upbeat music)
01:33:10 (upbeat music)
