snapple and moana @moana.and.snapple 2/27 2:00 pm

00:00 Snapple was born in a barn in Wisconsin with cerebellar hypoplasia, which is CH or also called wobbly cat syndrome.
00:07 It was a rescue in Minneapolis. They took him in. Cat dad and I had a conversation about
00:16 wanting to adopt special needs cats. So we contacted Chris, Snapple's foster mom. I said to her, "We've never done it before."
00:24 There was a level of fear for me.
00:26 I didn't know how we were gonna handle it, but she was great and she explained everything to us and built up confidence that we could
00:33 do it if we wanted to and we agreed to do a meet and greet.
00:36 So I did fly from Hawaii to Minneapolis, a nine-hour flight.
00:40 I spent one night there and left in the morning. When I flew home, we decided that we wanted to be Snapple's forever family.
00:47 Once all the paperwork went through, we had to do a Hawaii animal quarantine process for him.
00:54 So he didn't get to come to Hawaii until for another four months.
00:57 We had to ask Chris if she was willing to be his guardian for the first four months of our adoption and we provided all the
01:05 financial means for him, for his food, for all his appointments. We started therapy for him as well.
01:18 Chris came out here with him and she stayed with us for almost a week so we could do a nice transition for Snapple.
01:24 Moana and Snapple have an amazing bond. Moana was our first foster fam.
01:29 Whenever Snapple had like a meow that was probably like scared or
01:37 uncomfortable for some reason, Moana would come and she would make sure that he was okay.
01:46 This was just after Chris had left.
01:48 She does like to protect him.
01:53 I think she instinctively knows somehow that he has possibly a disability.
02:00 But it's like she wants the same thing as we do, which is to give him normal cat experiences.
02:13 I don't think we've ever felt so close to a cat in the sense that we are an extension of him.
02:19 I want to say we are his sixth limb.
02:21 We call his tail the fifth one because he does use that to also
02:25 communicate with us, to tell us how he's feeling and to help him move around.
02:29 What's good to know about Snapple is that his wobbly cat syndrome, it doesn't affect his cognitive ability. He's all there.
02:40 It's not something that is painful. Snapple was supposed to be euthanized and I believe he had a few days left. Foster mom
02:47 Chris wanted to just give him the last few days of love and life and
02:51 she quickly realized that he had a lot of life and had a spark for life and it was not his time to go.
03:05 He didn't join our family in Hawaii until he was about 11 months and he's going to be three in April.
03:12 He really is a happy boy.
