00:00 you. What's going on everyone
00:26 Taylor Kyle's here for C. L. N.
00:27 S. media coming at you with
00:29 the latest on the Patriots
00:31 history. And the book is
00:32 titled the Patriots history
00:34 prize picks and game time.
00:35 One of the most important
00:37 drafts in Patriots history is
00:38 in the books and the gas this
00:40 guy right here I think they did
00:42 a pretty bang up job. Really
00:43 set a foundation for some of
00:45 the young talent in terms of
00:46 not just talent but also people
00:48 with some bright personalities
00:49 and also some guys who clearly
00:50 have some intriguing.
00:52 Leadership ability so to walk
00:53 me through from a different
00:54 perspective in a much more
00:56 professional perspective. How
00:57 the Patriots in this draft and
00:59 how you guys are doing.
01:00 Well I'm here with Eric
01:01 Galco director of football
01:03 operations and player personnel
01:05 at the Shrine Bowl which had a
01:06 record fifty seven players
01:08 drafted a 24% increase Eric
01:11 thank you for the time and how
01:12 you doing and how are you
01:13 feeling well done. I'm doing
01:15 great I appreciate it's a great
01:16 privilege I have to get a
01:17 chance to work with a hundred
01:18 and thirty plus players every
01:20 year at the Shrine Bowl and
01:21 having these guys get drafted
01:22 in the Shrine Bowl playing.
01:23 Even a small part of their
01:25 process is pretty rewarding
01:26 man so I appreciate that and I
01:27 look forward to working with
01:29 them for some my new front
01:30 office. Thank you so first I
01:32 want to shed some light even
01:34 more on what you guys were able
01:35 to do so tell me a little bit
01:36 about the growth that has
01:38 happened at the Shrine Bowl
01:39 because it seems like it's
01:40 getting more and more attention
01:41 every year as it deserves
01:42 obviously you're a big part of
01:44 it. You know it's it's it's
01:45 funny man it's not dissimilar
01:47 to I think what a lot of
01:50 college or NFL programs want to
01:52 do as well as you try to do
01:53 things the right way and
01:54 quote-unquote rebuild the
01:56 Shrine Bowl has a rich history
01:57 with anniversary and for
01:59 three quarters of that era the
02:00 Shrine Bowl was an incredible
02:03 college all-star event. I mean
02:04 it was on I think it was on
02:05 Fox and CBS at the same time
02:07 like imagine that in today's
02:08 world right like it was that
02:09 big of a deal every player went
02:10 there from Tom Brady to John
02:12 L all these guys John Elway
02:13 etc. and it kind of lost its
02:15 luster a little bit for some
02:17 you know other reasons and I
02:19 was trying to kind of rebuild
02:20 that to bring it back to we got
02:21 a great team at the Shriners
02:22 Hospital and we'll try to kind
02:23 of do that but I've taken a lot
02:25 of pride my three years here so
02:26 far of taking care of players
02:29 from a health standpoint from a
02:31 food standpoint from a sleep
02:32 standpoint from a resources
02:34 where the Dallas Cowboys
02:35 facility you literally cannot
02:36 beat that in the entire NFL and
02:38 I'm very thankful that that
02:39 kind of process we've done has
02:41 led to players choosing the
02:42 Shrine Bowl over their all-star
02:43 games or more likely to want to
02:45 come to the event versus
02:46 stopping at all-star games
02:47 altogether. We've taken care of
02:48 players in a great way. So it
02:50 was challenging the first two
02:51 years but having guys really
02:53 trust what we're doing is what
02:54 I think is most important for
02:55 me and my team to say hey doing
02:56 this the right way now we have a
02:58 record number of draft picks
02:59 and now we can do much much
03:00 more for the future man so it's
03:01 it's been accomplishing for
03:02 sure.
03:03 I know both the program and the
03:04 players are in great hands.
03:06 I've seen firsthand your
03:07 dedication who you are as a
03:08 person. It's really cool to see
03:10 you having all this success.
03:12 So now getting into the
03:13 Patriots you mentioned.
03:15 Like they did pretty well in
03:16 this draft. They really needed
03:17 it. Obviously one of the
03:18 league's worst offenses last
03:20 year despite doing pretty well
03:21 on defense it felt like you
03:22 know probably not a popular
03:24 opinion. I thought they were
03:25 still a really competitive team
03:26 and a good team. It's just they
03:28 had some things that were wrong
03:29 that kind of took away from the
03:31 luster of what they were doing
03:32 well. So how did you think they
03:33 did in this draft. Seven
03:35 offensive players just one
03:36 defensive player got themselves
03:38 a quarterback and a pair of
03:39 weapons and offensive lineman
03:41 which I think Wolf told us
03:42 after they got made was the
03:43 goal.
03:44 You know it's funny because I
03:45 they have a new front office and
03:47 a new head coach but a lot of
03:48 the same kind of people there as
03:49 well too. And I think the
03:50 Patriots and people in that
03:52 building got maybe a poor
03:54 perception of the outside.
03:55 That's a really a lot of smart
03:56 people in that coaching staff
03:57 and that front office and they
03:58 showed when this year's draft
03:59 class as well to a lot of the
04:00 same people have been there for
04:01 a while too. But not uncommon
04:03 when you have a new defensive
04:05 coach that team usually goes
04:06 offense early on usually vice
04:08 versa as well. So you got to
04:09 rely on Gerard Mayo to kind of
04:10 make that defense what it is
04:12 for the offense. I had a ton of
04:13 players this year and I
04:14 obviously start with Drake May.
04:16 You know it's funny and I had
04:17 someone else in the building
04:18 too early on the process was
04:20 like I'd ask him hey you think
04:22 you know if you're the
04:22 Patriots you trade these picks
04:24 away for a guy like either
04:25 Jane Dales or Drake May and
04:26 it's you know if you if all
04:29 these teams want to go up that
04:30 means that guy's pretty good
04:31 right if the Giants and Vikings
04:33 are offering two three first
04:34 round picks you know if you're
04:35 the Patriots and you're picking
04:36 six you'd be offering three
04:38 first round picks for Drake May
04:39 too. So I think Drake May is
04:40 pretty special. I think in most
04:42 draft class he'd be a consensus
04:45 number one right. If not for
04:46 Jake Caleb Williams being the
04:47 special player that he is and
04:48 Jane Daniels having maybe the
04:50 second or most historic season
04:52 ever outside of him and Joe
04:53 Burrow ironically from LSU like
04:55 Drake May as a shoe in and I
04:57 think Drake May has all the
04:58 same traits that Trevor Lawrence
05:01 or Justin Herbert or Josh Allen
05:02 had. So to start your draft
05:03 with him is a pretty easy start
05:07 to getting an A draft grade no
05:08 matter what you think of the
05:09 rest of their draft class.
05:10 I remember I was thinking the
05:11 same thing specifically on draft
05:13 day where you're hearing the
05:14 day ball and Kevin O'Connell
05:15 two guys who do have Patriots
05:16 ties are trying to move heaven
05:18 and earth and I'm like don't
05:19 fall for the trap. Why on earth
05:21 would you do that? And then
05:22 even add Cameron Wolfe report
05:24 that Mayo was kind of in a
05:25 similar boat where it's like
05:26 yeah no we really like this guy
05:28 I think we're going to stay but
05:29 we're not giving up those
05:29 assets. You know I got a chance
05:31 to see Drake May about the
05:33 first time live about 11 months
05:34 ago at the Manny Passon Academy
05:37 and he's a guy that you just
05:39 watch two or three throws and
05:40 his demeanor and you're just
05:42 like man that guy is going to
05:43 have a chance to be a great
05:44 NFL quarterback right. Like you
05:45 can that kind of talent sets the
05:48 ceiling for a guy and you can
05:49 see the ceiling is undeniable
05:51 and then you get a chance to
05:51 meet Drake and talk to him and
05:53 you know I would tell people
05:54 that athleticism and talent
05:56 sets the ceiling and the
05:58 character and the mental makeup
05:59 sets the floor and both are
06:01 super super high for Drake May.
06:02 So again quarterback situation
06:04 or quarterback success is as
06:05 much about situation as it is
06:06 talent and the Patriots come up
06:08 for success but no doubt he has
06:09 a talent and the high floor to
06:10 be that. Yeah I feel like those
06:12 intangibles can kind of get
06:13 lost during the draft process
06:15 especially with fans because you
06:16 want the shiny new addition you
06:17 want the guy who's got the
06:18 talent. Luckily like you said
06:20 Drake has that in spades but one
06:22 thing I remember doing my
06:23 research on him hearing about
06:24 his family how competitive or
06:26 how successful they've been.
06:27 It's like all right being the
06:28 youngest brother I'm the
06:29 youngest brother so it may go
06:31 underappreciated but you know
06:33 you get a little you get roughed
06:34 up a little bit you have to
06:35 understand what it's like to
06:36 have that toughness when you're
06:38 in a competitive family. So
06:39 that was intriguing. And then
06:40 when we got to meet him in the
06:42 interviews and then when he
06:43 actually came to Gillette it's
06:44 very obvious this is a guy
06:45 who's got his priorities
06:46 straight cares about his
06:47 family cares about the game.
06:49 It just it seems like he's not
06:50 really going to be distracted
06:51 by so many of the things that
06:52 can kind of get in your way
06:53 when you're a young guy in this
06:55 position. You know and I think
06:56 you mentioned the sibling thing
06:57 one thing another you know
06:58 former NFL executive brought to
06:59 me about the family background
07:01 is that he's he's used to being
07:03 in the shadows of someone else
07:05 as an older brother has been
07:06 successful too when he's willing
07:07 to kind of both be a good
07:09 sibling at that time and then
07:11 taking his own time to shine
07:12 and here are the Patriots he'll
07:14 sit behind Jacoby. And I think
07:15 a lot of NFL teams when they
07:17 draft quarterbacks quarterback
07:17 is such a unique position. You
07:19 want to ask yourself you know
07:21 what can this guy be can he
07:22 handle that role but what can
07:23 he be right now right I go back
07:25 to Brock where you play in this
07:26 rumble got to know Brock a
07:27 little bit back then and dealing
07:28 with Brock I was like if this
07:30 guy's a third stringer he's
07:31 going to give that first team
07:32 offense a heck of a go a bit in
07:34 practice if he's your backup
07:35 he's going to make your starter
07:36 better and fill in at the east
07:38 or if he's your starter it's not
07:39 gonna be too big for him. And I
07:40 think a lot of guys in the
07:41 draft process quarterback wise
07:43 they may be drafted as a backup
07:44 but they can't mentally handle
07:46 that I think Drake is a guy
07:47 that if he's a backup this
07:48 whole year he's going to make
07:50 sure Jacoby is crushing it every
07:52 week in practice in the game
07:53 day right if he's a starter
07:54 he'll handle it too I think
07:55 Drake having the brothers that
07:56 play professional sports I think
07:58 is a really important wrinkle to
08:00 how it'll work much go for said
08:01 as well.
08:02 The mental toughness is huge and
08:03 one thing with the Patriots
08:05 Brajans he obviously weren't
08:06 able to make any splashes but I
08:07 thought they did do a good job
08:09 filling holes where you know if
08:10 you do have the first team where
08:12 it's all veterans you got
08:13 Jacoby you got KJ Kendrick
08:15 Bourne Pop Douglas.
08:16 You know you're with those guys
08:18 who still get on the field and
08:20 be able to have success while
08:21 the young guys are waiting but
08:22 even still those young guys who
08:23 are waiting are very talented.
08:25 I'm also curious what you think
08:26 about the weapons that Drake
08:28 made.
08:28 Thought they were standing fits
08:30 ball winners guys with big catch
08:31 radiuses who counter each other
08:33 pretty well.
08:34 You got Jalen Polk who's you
08:35 know still working on the
08:36 rat-running part of his game but
08:38 the size is undeniable.
08:39 The hands are fantastic and I
08:41 feel like what maybe had him
08:42 higher on teams boards and maybe
08:44 us outside was the fact that he
08:46 is really outstanding character
08:48 addition it feels like and just
08:49 a straight up good football
08:50 player as well.
08:51 Then you got Javon Baker who's
08:53 more of a separator.
08:54 He's got a little more
08:55 dynamicism to his game a little
08:57 bit of dog too.
08:58 You got a lot of nice guys in
08:59 the Patriots receiving core
09:00 seems like he's got a little bit
09:02 of an edge.
09:02 How did you feel about those
09:03 selections and how they match up
09:05 with Drake.
09:05 You know it really feels that
09:07 the Patriots have a lot of
09:08 different types of receivers and
09:09 personalities there.
09:10 I think they want it.
09:11 I am just guessing a little bit
09:13 they want a lot of competition
09:14 this training camp right.
09:15 Hulk is a guy that is smooth
09:18 efficient great ball skills.
09:20 He's going to find a role but he
09:21 has maybe lacks something that
09:22 other guys may have right now
09:23 Kendrick Bourne maybe a better
09:24 route separator right to mark
09:26 pop Douglas better in the slot
09:27 and working downfield type one
09:28 Thornton that top end speed is
09:30 always a threat.
09:30 Can K.
09:31 Sean Booty do some things.
09:32 Joe and Rager's there right as
09:33 a speed guy kind of finding his
09:34 role too.
09:34 So I think we you know Judith
09:37 Smith Schuster writes a guy had
09:38 a lot of success in his NFL
09:39 career too.
09:39 I think all these guys you put
09:41 like three of these guys
09:42 together you get like a
09:43 Megatron type receiver.
09:44 And I think for the Patriots
09:46 it's going to be a great
09:47 combination.
09:47 They've got seven eight guys
09:49 cage.
09:49 I want to mention either seven
09:51 eight nine guys who will
09:52 compete in camp.
09:53 And I wouldn't be surprised all
09:54 the Patriots you know have
09:56 offense one offense to offense
09:57 three.
09:58 You got three quarterbacks and
09:59 Berset Zappi and Drake May who
10:00 all have some expectation of
10:02 playing this year whether they
10:02 will or not we'll find out
10:03 right.
10:04 But all those got Joe Milton to
10:05 all these guys that like want a
10:06 chance to play nine receivers
10:08 want a chance to play too.
10:09 So it feels like the Patriots
10:11 have set that receiver and like
10:12 the quarterback room up for
10:13 hopefully healthy competition.
10:15 I'm biased.
10:16 My guys Ty Kwon and Pop Douglas
10:18 are there.
10:18 Those two guys for sure for
10:19 sure.
10:19 But but a lot of weapons and
10:21 offense I think the Patriots
10:23 have I think really eight or
10:24 nine guys that they only need
10:25 five to emerge.
10:26 I think of those that nine
10:27 group five those guys will
10:28 emerge and I bet poke with
10:29 probably one of the big guys
10:30 that has to happen to them.
10:31 Not only is it great for the
10:32 competition it's good for Pat's
10:34 fans in the preseason you get to
10:35 those third and fourth quarters.
10:36 Yeah.
10:37 We're going to get some
10:38 entertaining guys on the field.
10:39 So before we get into your
10:40 shrine bowl guys from this
10:41 season I'm curious what you
10:43 think about Pop Douglas and
10:45 Ty Kwon Thornton to Mario
10:46 Douglas obviously going to a new
10:47 second season.
10:48 It feels like he showed more
10:49 potential than he really showed
10:51 up in the statute because I saw
10:52 there were plenty of times
10:53 getting broken killing it on the
10:55 field but obviously a lot of
10:56 difficult situations last
10:57 season and Ty Kwon Thornton.
10:59 I call him buff type one.
11:00 Now I don't know if you saw but
11:01 he's putting on some body armor
11:03 trying to stay on the field.
11:04 Obviously there's not staying on
11:05 the field.
11:06 Maybe some coaching.
11:07 It feels like he's kind of
11:08 behind the eight ball because he
11:09 just hasn't had many
11:09 opportunities.
11:10 But now that he has put on some
11:12 more weight now this is a
11:13 different system where looking
11:14 at the film with what Drake May
11:16 was doing off play action and
11:17 then Aaron Rodgers as he
11:18 mentioned where it's a lot of
11:19 that Dino taking the top off
11:20 between the ashes.
11:21 I'm like that seems like a type
11:23 one kind of route and maybe help
11:25 him revitalize his career.
11:26 What are you expecting from
11:27 those guys this season.
11:28 Yeah I mean I'm Ty Kwon first.
11:30 I think he's been unfortunately
11:31 hit by injuries.
11:32 This is an immensely talented
11:33 guy.
11:33 I think Patriots fan we're
11:34 seeing what two years ago now.
11:36 Oh they reached on him like he
11:37 was going to go in route to a
11:38 lot of teams know that Ty Kwon
11:40 who's you know I think it's
11:41 probably has the probably is the
11:43 fastest guy ever.
11:43 I think there's actually some
11:45 data that says he ran a 4 1 9 at
11:46 the combine not a 4 2 4 like he
11:48 maybe got screwed there a little
11:49 bit.
11:49 But I'm just again I'm biased
11:51 my guy Ty Kwon but he is
11:52 immensely immensely talented if
11:54 he's healthy.
11:54 He's the fastest guy in the
11:56 receiver room for the Patriots.
11:58 He's got to play outside and win
11:59 as a Z or actual receiver to
12:01 who's worked on his press
12:02 separation skills as well to
12:03 this offseason.
12:04 So I'm hopeful that type one is
12:05 100 percent healthy because I
12:06 think he does.
12:07 I think that people are a bunch
12:09 of on Baker is great.
12:10 Javon super talented type one I
12:12 think at a ceiling can do
12:13 everything to do it more.
12:14 But hopefully type one healthy
12:15 all season long too.
12:16 And I'm rooting for a big
12:17 breakout for type one because he
12:19 has a talent in him too.
12:20 And then pop Douglas me pop is
12:22 one of my favorite guys I can
12:23 still talk with from last year's
12:25 draft class.
12:25 He came in the triangle this
12:26 year.
12:27 I think he is such a I think
12:30 he'll be a leader for this team
12:31 moving forward.
12:31 He's got that type of
12:33 personality that guys just
12:34 gravitate to him.
12:35 He's real.
12:35 He's honest.
12:36 He works his butt off.
12:37 I think he's a guy that not
12:38 only will be a big part of the
12:39 team and the statute moving
12:40 forward but also in the locker
12:41 room.
12:42 But yeah I mean he's going to be
12:44 has one of the best
12:44 slobbers years in football.
12:45 The fact they got in the sixth
12:46 round last year was incredible
12:48 was ridiculous and the Patriots
12:50 stole a guy that might catch 80
12:52 balls this year and the sixth
12:53 round a year ago.
12:54 But I think he'll play a huge
12:55 role in this offense.
12:56 Someone without a pelt in the
12:58 past they're going to want to
12:59 use that slobber see for a lot
13:00 in the middle of the field and
13:01 short area stuff and quick
13:02 slants and reverses all those
13:04 things he'll be used quite a
13:05 bit.
13:05 Yeah.
13:06 I would say he doesn't get a
13:07 lot of credit for just how
13:08 creative he is as a court
13:10 you're not like sure from the
13:11 McVay tree but you look at it
13:12 and especially I think it's that
13:13 Brown Seahawks game was where
13:15 you're like whoa they're really
13:16 throwing the kitchen sink
13:17 getting real creative here.
13:19 So I know those guys as well
13:21 excited to see what they do.

14:20 deposit match up to $100.
14:22 Prize picks pick more pick less.
14:24 It's that easy.
14:25 All right.
14:32 So speaking of your guys
14:33 Caden Wallace Marcella style
14:35 Deshaun Fenwick John Fenwick
14:37 actually guy took in a lot of my
14:38 early mock drafts.
14:39 So I feel really good about that
14:40 when they picked them up.
14:41 These are guys especially in
14:43 this draft class like I
14:44 mentioned it seemed like
14:44 character was a really big area
14:46 of emphasis and then getting to
14:47 get on the zoom calls with
14:48 these guys every single one I
14:50 came off and I'm like it's
14:51 really nice.
14:52 I like him.
14:53 I like his vibe.
14:53 So tell the people before we
14:55 get into the players what kind
14:56 of people New England is
14:57 getting in Wallace in dial and
14:59 in Fenwick.
15:00 Yeah I mean Wallace is I think a
15:03 little soft spoken but he is so
15:04 motivated man.
15:05 I mean he's played a lot of
15:06 football at Penn State.
15:07 He's played with a lot of great
15:08 offensive linemen at Penn State
15:09 and I think he is as locked in
15:11 as they can.
15:11 I think he still has a chip on
15:12 his shoulder.
15:13 Right.
15:13 I think this idea that he's
15:14 going to challenge a left
15:15 tackle is going to be huge for
15:16 him because he didn't play left
15:17 tackle because he was playing
15:19 with one of the most impressive
15:20 left tackles of the last decade
15:22 in college football and all of
15:23 the Shanu right.
15:23 So I think he's shown that he
15:25 could play left tag like that
15:26 right tackle.
15:26 I think he's really motivated to
15:27 show teams what he can do.
15:28 He really rose this process in
15:30 part because of the character
15:32 in the interviews at the
15:33 Shrine Bowl at the Combine
15:34 Patriots like one of those teams
15:36 that were like you know what
15:36 this is a guy that wants to be
15:38 special and has all the tools to
15:39 be that Marcella style is a guy
15:41 who had a lot of said early on
15:43 his college career didn't really
15:44 get target as much towards the
15:45 end of his college career
15:46 because he was so impressed in
15:47 that South Carolina defense but
15:48 he'll play a lot of different
15:49 roles for you.
15:49 He'll step in as a special teams
15:51 guy day one.
15:52 He'll play corner he'll play
15:53 safety he'll play whatever he's
15:54 long he's athletic.
15:55 He's got those tools to be
15:57 great.
15:57 I think he's a guy that could
15:58 emerge as a special teams ace
15:59 year one and develop into safety
16:01 corner hybrid for the future.
16:03 And then to Sean Fenwick.
16:04 I mean what a great kid.
16:05 What a great person.
16:06 He's enjoyable to hang out with.
16:08 He's a life of the party kind of
16:09 guy but he is as motivated as
16:11 anybody at the Shrine Bowl
16:12 roster this year.
16:12 I mean he knew that a because of
16:14 Oregon State and working in a
16:15 rotation he had to make every
16:17 single opportunity matter.
16:18 I think he's a guy that's going
16:20 to show me the camp and he'll
16:21 be he'll be one of the first
16:22 guys there last guy.
16:23 One of those guys for sure.
16:25 But I wouldn't be surprised at
16:26 all by the middle part of camp
16:27 you're saying man I keep
16:28 involving Fenwick because he's
16:30 working his butt up as a pass
16:31 catcher man he's given a lot of
16:32 effort as a pass blocker like
16:34 he's going to do those third
16:34 down stuff that I think the
16:36 Patriots really need in that
16:37 running back room and he'll be
16:38 one of the better guys in those
16:39 areas too.
16:39 So don't be surprised at all if
16:40 Fenwick sticks as their third
16:42 fourth running back this year
16:42 because he'll do all the things
16:43 on special teams on the new
16:45 kickoff rule like he'll be on
16:46 both sides kick and kick return
16:48 blocking right like he'll do
16:49 all those little things that you
16:50 want and he wants to be a great
16:51 NFL player.
16:52 He knows what he has to do to be
16:53 there and he'll do little things
16:54 really really well to Sean.
16:55 So you got three really high
16:56 character guys in the Shrine
16:57 Bowl especially.
16:57 I've got to Sean on my list of
17:00 my undrafted guys I think are
17:01 going to make the roster.
17:02 So I look at the talent
17:03 especially the pass blocking.
17:05 That's what really stands out
17:06 for me is that willingness.
17:07 That's when you know what guys
17:09 want to put in the work to be
17:10 better when you're willing to do
17:11 the one thing that you know
17:12 isn't very enviable but matters
17:14 so much.
17:15 So going to Caden Wallace
17:16 Patriots said that they project
17:18 him to be a left tackle.
17:19 Now personally I was confused
17:20 when I was looking at his
17:21 profile.
17:22 I like the player but did think
17:24 OK this is a right tackle.
17:25 They really need left.
17:26 So I was surprised.
17:27 I was like OK.
17:27 Is he going to be a guard.
17:28 Is it why they were being like
17:29 what's going on.
17:30 But again the plan for him is to
17:32 go on that blind side.
17:33 So watching him against Ohio
17:35 State I saw you mentioned that
17:36 that was game that really stood
17:37 out for you and he's an
17:38 experienced player and you could
17:39 see it the patience the balance
17:41 like he's just a guy who feels
17:43 like he understands his skill
17:44 set and works inside that.
17:45 So from your perspective what is
17:47 he doing to the Patriots on the
17:48 field.
17:49 And why do you think he can make
17:50 the transition over to left
17:51 tackle.
17:52 You know I think he's he's a
17:53 type of person and learner that
17:56 knows the why of what he's doing
17:58 right.
17:58 There are some athletes and some
17:59 players who are like hey you
18:00 know what I'm going to do I'll
18:01 go do it.
18:02 I think Caden is a very
18:03 thoughtful person.
18:04 He knows why the movement sets
18:06 are happening and knows the type
18:07 of offensive linemen or
18:08 receivers or defensive backs
18:10 that can usually transition
18:11 positions really easily.
18:13 I think it's a Caden likely
18:14 projects to do.
18:15 And again he was playing right
18:16 tackle not because he couldn't
18:17 play well because they had a
18:18 great left tackle there as well
18:19 too.
18:20 I think to give the tribal a
18:21 shout out he showed he could
18:22 play left tackle the tribal.
18:23 He did really well there.
18:24 I think every NFL team left the
18:26 tribal why I thought he was
18:27 going to be a top really a top
18:29 four round guy after the
18:30 tribal because he not only did
18:31 great in practice but at worst
18:33 he was going to be the best
18:34 swing tackle in this draft
18:35 class right.
18:35 He was going to show teams he
18:36 can play both left and right
18:37 tackle as a backup.
18:38 So was I surprised he was
18:39 drafted to be a left tackle a
18:41 little just because he played
18:43 six thousand snaps at right
18:44 tackle his college career.
18:45 But him they're not left tackle
18:47 it's not going to be a huge
18:48 learning curve.
18:49 It'll be some there.
18:50 I think the first couple of
18:50 days of practice.
18:51 Yeah maybe a little little odd
18:53 too.
18:53 But don't be surprised within a
18:55 week or two.
18:55 He's protecting that inside foot
18:57 against stunt moves right.
18:58 Or he's able to kind of get his
18:59 three steps out and get his
19:00 hands on a guy and be in
19:01 balance.
19:02 But a lot of the technical stuff
19:03 will be really easier than the
19:04 pickup right.
19:05 He'll be he'll be in sequence
19:06 upper and lower half pretty
19:07 quickly.
19:08 So it'll be some minor stuff
19:09 we'll figure out too.
19:10 But I think the Patriots are
19:11 dead on that.
19:11 Hey he hasn't played left tackle
19:13 yet because of the college
19:15 situation not because he can.
19:16 And he has the football IQ and
19:18 the athletic coordination to
19:19 kind of figure it out pretty
19:19 quickly.
19:20 And all of these guys you're
19:22 entering the NFL you have
19:23 something to work on for
19:24 Wallace.
19:25 What are some of those things
19:25 you think he could start
19:26 shoring up in his game like
19:27 areas of focus once he gets in
19:29 the training camp.
19:29 Yeah I think him just finishing.
19:31 I think he's a guy that's so
19:32 athletic and so smooth was that
19:34 right.
19:34 It's him wet left tackle and
19:35 maybe that left ankle take him
19:36 a little bit longer because
19:38 he'll be have to think about a
19:39 few more things and then versus
19:40 right tackle.
19:40 But I think once he gets down
19:42 the technique and the timing and
19:44 the movement signs and and all
19:46 those things just for him.
19:47 Hey just go be nasty.
19:48 Right.
19:48 Just go finish put guys in the
19:50 ground too.
19:50 He's got all those physical
19:51 traits all the other traits too.
19:53 I think if he was a guy that had
19:55 a couple more wild plays at Penn
19:56 State on film all the time he
19:58 might be a first round pick.
19:59 That's how talented this guy is
20:00 as well too.
20:01 So I think for him it's about
20:02 once the techniques down.
20:03 Hey show off that strength a
20:05 little bit.
20:05 Right.
20:05 Don't be worried about you know
20:07 the next splits or whatever
20:08 else either finish you're
20:09 getting at and be a good left
20:10 tackle.
20:10 He'll get the NFL pretty
20:11 quickly.
20:12 I'm curious the Patriots seem
20:14 like they've been trending older
20:16 when it comes to their
20:16 offensive lineman in recent
20:17 history.
20:18 And from my perspective I'm
20:19 thinking well you're not really
20:21 getting a lot of time in
20:22 practice especially as an
20:23 offensive lineman.
20:24 You do what you've got to do.
20:25 I spoke to Cole Strange last
20:26 year about bull rushes because
20:27 everyone's like oh he can't
20:28 handle a bull rush.
20:29 He's like you got to understand
20:30 it's really difficult to handle
20:32 things like that because you
20:33 can't simulate a bull rush like
20:34 you actually need to get the
20:35 reps to do that.
20:36 Yeah obviously he's a different
20:37 situation because he missed a
20:38 lot of the summer due to injury
20:39 but even still like during the
20:40 season you get a lot of time
20:41 opportunities.
20:42 Do you think maybe that's a
20:43 reason that the Patriots or
20:44 maybe other teams are starting
20:46 to value guys with a lot of
20:47 experience more because maybe
20:48 they're a little easier to
20:49 teach because they've seen so
20:51 much or you think it's maybe
20:52 something else.
20:53 It's a great question man
20:54 because I think philosophically
20:55 I'm with you and I'll give a
20:56 quick story if that's all right.
20:57 When I was at the XFL after my
20:59 first after our first year was
21:01 you know starting out I was
21:02 looking a year or two at the
21:03 XFL and I called up a good
21:04 friend of mine to many weather
21:06 and I was like Duke you know the
21:07 XFL we'd never much offensive
21:09 line talent.
21:09 How do we get make our offensive
21:11 lines better not get great
21:12 talent can make our offense
21:13 lines better.
21:14 And I was like do you think I'm
21:15 like I think this is wrong but
21:16 do you think it's like the you
21:17 know find the basketball at
21:19 least the guys to transfer over
21:20 and he's like honestly Eric you
21:22 want to find a guy that's seen a
21:23 lot of football because I can
21:24 make a guy that's seen a lot of
21:26 football 20 percent better
21:27 versus trying to make a guy
21:28 that has not seen a lot of
21:29 football 100 percent better.
21:30 And I think he kind of taught
21:32 that to me and again I felt
21:33 either seeing it now that hey
21:34 you know what we don't need to
21:35 have the freakiest of freak
21:37 athletes be at every
21:38 offensive line right.
21:39 The Lions took that kid from
21:40 British Columbia to be an
21:42 upside guy.
21:42 You can have one maybe two of
21:43 those guys in your roster but
21:45 you want to have guys that know
21:46 generally what they're doing
21:47 and get the absolute most out of
21:49 them and just keep your
21:50 offensive flow right.
21:51 Especially now with how much
21:53 horizontal stretching we're
21:54 doing and play action and RPOs
21:56 like you don't need an
21:57 offensive lineman to protect
21:58 four seconds 20 times a game
22:00 right.
22:01 That's probably five or 10 times
22:02 a game tops too.
22:03 So having guys who are
22:04 efficient technically sound
22:06 cannot make mistakes probably
22:07 what's really valuable for a lot
22:08 of NFL teams around the NFL and
22:09 Patriots seem to value a lot of
22:11 those guys from last year's
22:12 draft and this year's draft.
22:13 That's really interesting and it
22:14 seems like if everything goes to
22:16 plan and these young guys end up
22:18 playing soon there's a chance
22:19 that Wallace and another
22:20 offensive line pick for the
22:21 Patriots Leighton Robinson can
22:22 end up playing on the same side
22:24 or in any future it seems like
22:25 ideally they're going to play
22:26 together.
22:27 What do you think of
22:28 Robinson's profile and how do
22:29 those two guys kind of
22:30 complement each other and maybe
22:31 give you a hint at what the
22:32 Patriots are trying to do.
22:33 I know they're kind of shifting
22:34 towards more of a wide zone
22:36 scheme so how do they fit into
22:37 that mix.
22:37 Yeah I mean I can speak on Cade
22:39 for sure and he'll fit.
22:40 He'll fit.
22:40 I think once he gets left tackle
22:42 first off the scheme they'll be
22:43 pretty easy for him.
22:43 He can move super well in space
22:45 and climb to the second level
22:46 pretty easily too.
22:46 I think Leighton's tremendously
22:48 gifted and they've got a lot of
22:50 competition there at guard.
22:50 Right.
22:51 They've got Cole and they got
22:52 Sidney South who started last
22:54 year Antonio Mafia tribal guy as
22:55 well too.
22:56 I think all four of those guys
22:57 especially Sidney Leighton and
22:58 Mafia are all big guys who can
23:01 move have some additional
23:02 versatility to any great
23:03 competition in camp because I
23:04 think all three of those guys
23:06 again have really impressive
23:07 talent.
23:07 Obviously Sidney coming from a
23:09 smaller school Mafia only played
23:11 the off guard for what two three
23:13 years at UCLA and now Leighton
23:14 they're coming from a big
23:15 school but they're all very
23:16 similar in their body type.
23:17 So I think all three of those
23:18 guys are good fit.
23:19 I think it's going to be a
23:21 really intriguing three man race
23:23 for probably just one spot in
23:24 the right guard position.
23:24 So they want a competition.
23:26 They got it.
23:27 I can't wait to watch it.
23:28 We are going to hit on defense
23:30 and talk about the Sean Fenwick
23:31 and what he could do for this
23:32 offense.
23:33 Another quick word from our
23:34 friends at game time.
23:35 Be right back with the NBA
23:37 playoffs in full swing in the
23:38 Celtics looking like the best
23:40 team in the East.
23:40 I'm trying to go to a game so I
23:42 can witness their greatness in
23:43 person and get those tickets.
23:45 I'm going to be using game time
23:46 an authorized ticket marketplace
23:48 of the NBA which makes getting
23:50 playoff tickets even faster and
23:52 easier prices on the game time
23:54 app actually go down the closer
23:55 it gets to the tip off with
23:57 killer last minute deals all in
23:58 prices views from your seat and
24:01 their lowest price guarantee.
24:02 Game time takes the guesswork
24:04 out of buying NBA tickets.
24:06 Buying tickets on game time is
24:08 extremely easy.
24:09 All you have to do is click on
24:10 the team that you want to watch
24:11 browse through the different
24:13 options for dates and seating.
24:14 Then you can filter through
24:16 things like price and where you
24:17 want your seat to be as well as
24:19 how many people you're going to
24:20 be bringing with you.
24:20 And they have a very cool
24:22 feature where you actually get a
24:23 panoramic view of the seats
24:25 you're going to purchase.
24:26 From there if you have Apple
24:27 pay it can be as easy as one
24:29 click and you're all set.
24:30 I also love the last minute
24:32 ticket deals because if you're
24:33 trying to save a couple of
24:34 dollars like me they can make
24:36 the experience of buying a
24:37 ticket a little less stressful
24:38 so you don't have to spend quite

25:36 Now I don't know if you're
25:39 watching Bill Belichick on the
25:40 Pat McAfee show but on his board
25:42 cornerback was the Patriots
25:44 third biggest position of need.
25:46 Now luckily they did address it
25:48 it took till day three but they
25:49 did with a really intriguing
25:51 player as we kind of touched
25:52 down in Marcellus style.
25:53 Now the Patriots I think they
25:55 need some competition at outside
25:56 corner maybe John Jones kicking
25:58 into the slot this year but also
26:00 safety.
26:00 We don't know what's going to
26:01 happen exactly with Marty Mop
26:03 who is talented as he is.
26:04 The team lacks that true center
26:06 fielder who can kind of maximize
26:07 the talent of everybody else.
26:08 So I'm curious where do you
26:10 think based on where the Patriots
26:11 roster is now Marcellus maybe
26:13 fits in best if he does manage
26:15 to get into that defensive
26:16 rotation.
26:16 Yeah I think outside corners
26:18 will have to start right.
26:19 He's just too talented can move
26:20 outside ran a four for the
26:22 combine you know 10 foot platter
26:24 almost 11 foot broad jump run.
26:26 I mean he's a really impressive
26:27 athlete that can kind of press
26:28 coverage bump and run downfield
26:29 and stay physical.
26:30 He's a very physical outside
26:31 corner with recovery speed kind
26:33 of held further to when I think
26:35 I think he probably needs a full
26:37 training camp to kind of get
26:38 action in their system and
26:39 draw Mayo if he's anything like
26:40 Bill Belichick is going to ban a
26:42 lot of his DBs to do a lot of
26:43 things really well right out of
26:44 the gate too.
26:45 So I think for a dial I hope he
26:46 gets a chance to kind of get
26:47 settled in there a little bit
26:48 too.
26:48 But he no doubt has started
26:49 potential.
26:50 I think early on his career NFL
26:52 scouts will tell you like hey
26:53 this guy could be a top 100
26:54 pick and a guy that can start
26:55 game for us early on the NFL.
26:56 And again whether it's up and
26:58 down seasons or ever may be
26:59 fell the day three of the draft
27:00 but certainly has a talent to
27:01 develop into a guy that can
27:03 start for them on Sundays
27:04 whether this year or next year.
27:05 And there were some places that
27:07 had him labeled as a safety in
27:09 the Patriots system.
27:10 If you're a cornerback you are
27:11 also a safety.
27:12 They have their disguise
27:13 coverages at some point you're
27:14 going to be in that deep part of
27:15 the field.
27:15 So what is it about his game
27:17 that gives him the versatility
27:18 not just to be you know that
27:19 press man corner that also in
27:21 corner but also somebody who
27:22 can play on the back end of the
27:23 defense.
27:24 Yeah I think he adjusts really
27:25 well right.
27:25 He's never flat footed and he's
27:27 able to kind of stay balanced
27:28 and stay in control.
27:29 And if he has to pick up a tight
27:30 end and the seam as a free
27:31 safety or kind of roll over on a
27:33 on a corner route he can really
27:35 adjust and never be off balance
27:36 as an off ball safety or or
27:38 playing corner to safety kind
27:39 of transition there as well too.
27:40 So he's a guy that's really has
27:42 a good sense of things and then
27:43 when he kind of can engage his
27:44 feet with somebody a tight end
27:45 or running back or just having
27:46 coverage to he'll get his hands
27:48 on a guy without drawing
27:49 interference.
27:49 He's really refined.
27:51 It's both saying physical and
27:52 knowing how to say physical and
27:53 space as well to which why I
27:54 think something project him to
27:55 be kind of a free safety guy
27:56 who's going to play in space and
27:58 work downfield and not be lost
27:59 if he's out on island downfield.
28:01 So I think you do both.
28:02 I think for the Patriots team
28:03 him being an outside guy would
28:04 be great for them before to see
28:06 what he does in the field.
28:07 Also the energy man when he got
28:09 drafted he was so excited that
28:11 got me kind of fired up the whole
28:13 family and everything was juice
28:14 up.
28:14 That was really cool.
28:15 Excited to see him now to Sean
28:17 Fenwick.
28:17 It's a bit of an older prospect
28:19 but he also doesn't have a ton
28:20 of tread on the tires like you
28:22 mentioned part of a rotation
28:23 which is huge for running backs
28:24 obviously position where you're
28:26 going to take a beating but he's
28:27 coming into a spot where you got
28:29 Ramon Tre's RB one Antonio
28:31 Gibson figures have a big role.
28:32 Then it's that third kind of
28:34 change of pace back roll.
28:35 And you mentioned he's got a
28:36 well rounded skill set.
28:37 So let Patriots fans know a
28:39 little bit more in depth what
28:40 they're getting in Fenwick who
28:42 you know from everything I've
28:43 seen really seems like he's
28:44 going to be a good fit in their
28:44 zone scheme.
28:45 Yeah I think for them especially
28:47 for him his role to make in the
28:48 roster is going to be as a
28:49 third down pass blocker pass
28:50 catcher and a guy could be a
28:51 fish as a runner.
28:52 And he is very detail oriented
28:54 right.
28:55 And he's going to drop or miss
28:56 route is going to really bother
28:57 him.
28:58 It had this rival that Oregon
28:59 State do.
28:59 He really wants to be really
29:00 perfect at what he's asked to
29:02 do and he'll do those nitty
29:03 gritty things early on and be
29:04 excited about it.
29:05 Right.
29:05 I can be a guy was expecting 20
29:07 carries ever in his career.
29:08 He just wants to be an NFL
29:09 player.
29:10 He knows what it takes to do
29:11 that.
29:11 I think as a route runner I saw
29:12 him in college and at the
29:13 tribal as well to like he is
29:15 very refined understands how to
29:17 set up linebackers and wants to
29:18 get better there.
29:19 And I think he'll be he's
29:20 probably a two X better third
29:22 down running back pass blocker
29:24 than he was at the tribal that
29:26 is right now.
29:26 Like this guy's going to work
29:27 consistently to make sure he's
29:28 at his best all season long to
29:30 as a pass blocker certainly
29:32 built apart and is really
29:33 physical in that sense too.
29:34 But he could be a lead blocker
29:35 if they want to do some QB
29:37 power stuff like he could be
29:38 that kind of guy as well too.
29:39 And I think that there's no one
29:41 else in this Patriots roster
29:42 screams to me as a guy who wants
29:44 to do those kind of things.
29:45 And I would not be surprised at
29:46 all by the end of camp if he's
29:47 as trust of his past blocker as
29:49 your Andre is as much of a
29:51 threat as a bigger bodied pass
29:53 catcher in space as well to that
29:54 this he really has to offer.
29:55 If he could do it Alexander
29:57 Pelt was going to ask him to do
29:59 it in any role that comes in.
30:00 Another guy who kind of fits in
30:02 that mold it seems like one
30:03 character as we mentioned but
30:04 also versatility were very big
30:06 for the Patriots.
30:06 Another guy who I think they got
30:09 excellent value in Jaheim Bell
30:11 tight end out of Florida State.
30:12 Now he's a guy where I feel like
30:14 he keeps getting compared to Kyle
30:15 Uschak.
30:16 I don't love that.
30:17 I feel like everybody on the 49
30:18 years all those skilled position
30:19 players are just the comparison
30:21 for certain roles where it's
30:22 like you got to understand these
30:23 guys are one it's not really
30:25 fair to compare.
30:25 But based on what you know what
30:27 do you think Jaheim Bell's role
30:29 is going to be in this Alex van
30:30 Pelt type of system and what do
30:32 you think he brings to New
30:33 England's offense.
30:33 Yeah.
30:34 With really no insight here I
30:36 wonder if it was just like this
30:37 guy still here in the seventh
30:38 round.
30:38 Like I don't know what's going
30:40 to be this guy's too talented
30:41 and I know Jaheim Bell is going
30:42 to be working in that sort of a
30:43 fullback H-back role like Kyle
30:45 Uschak if he'll be a kind of
30:46 unattached tight end a little
30:47 bit in playing space too.
30:48 But in the Patriots might have
30:50 to say you know what in this
30:50 guy's gonna be on P-Squad for a
30:52 year.
30:52 It's too good to pass this guy
30:53 being available right now too.
30:55 He's really talented.
30:56 He's got great ball skills for a
30:57 guy his size.
30:57 He can really work downfield.
30:59 I think he's really dangerous
31:00 and kind of the short area
31:01 stuff going against linebackers
31:03 and safeties and he can
31:04 separate but also finish
31:05 contested type situations too.
31:07 So I think a really impressive
31:08 athlete.
31:08 I think a lot of teams probably
31:09 struggle with where is he going
31:10 to play for us.
31:11 Right.
31:11 Should we call him a tight end
31:13 because you really can't do
31:14 something in line stuff you want
31:15 to do.
31:15 But I think he's really a
31:16 matchup type of player too that
31:18 again he may be a guy that's
31:19 competing for a roster spot but
31:20 he has a red shirt for the
31:22 first six eight games or even
31:23 the whole season.
31:24 Like it was a great value in the
31:25 seventh round.
31:26 I'm totally with you.
31:26 I think he's a guy that if it
31:28 works and he fits our offense
31:29 great he could be a 15 20 catch
31:31 a year guy for them and if not
31:32 seven round picks certainly
31:33 worth the gamble.
31:34 I like you mentioned the
31:35 downfield stuff to excuse mostly
31:37 another threat there but you saw
31:39 it every once in a while.
31:39 It's like OK he can track he
31:40 can make some adjustments.
31:41 He is a fullback.
31:42 It's better than you're going to
31:43 get for most guys that position.
31:45 Eric this has been a blast man.
31:47 Thank you so much for your time.
31:48 I really appreciate it.
31:49 Please let the people know where
31:50 they can find you.
31:51 What exciting Shrine Bowl news
31:52 we need to know before you head
31:54 out.
31:54 Yeah no I mean I try and pull
31:56 that the Twitter account we've
31:57 got some pretty exciting
31:58 rollouts we'll have the next few
31:59 weeks and months to you but
32:00 right now we'll be following our
32:02 guys in training and rookie
32:03 mini camp in training camp and
32:04 room for our guys to seven
32:05 draft picks this year.
32:06 But we've got 300 guys in the
32:08 last three years at least that
32:09 are in the NFL from the Shrine
32:10 Bowl so I'll be room for all
32:11 300 guys equally.
32:12 They're all my favorite guys
32:13 from last three years and I'll
32:14 hope all those guys do really
32:15 well.
32:16 Awesome.
32:16 Congratulations again.
32:17 Keep killing it.
32:18 And thank you all as always for
32:20 watching.
32:20 Now take care of yourselves.
32:22 Take care of each other.
32:23 We will see you next time.
32:24 Peace y'all.
