00:18War Hero Donald was born in 1914 and served on the front line with the 7th Armoured Division.
00:24He's a former sniper and desert rat who also served with the Queen's Royal Regiment
00:28and was awarded a number of medals during his service, including the Légion d'honneur,
00:33France's highest honour and one of the most famous in the world.
00:37The fly pass for Donald took place amid a range of events to commemorate World War II
00:41and honour the armed forces.
00:43Last year, a public appeal for people to send him birthday messages saw him receive more
00:47than 150 messages from well-wishers.
00:50He also received a visit from the Mayor of Erewash on the recent Armistice Day.
00:55Naomi Alsop, who works at Mr Rose's care home, said,
