00:00:00Can you say hardhats, folks? Hardhats, munchpails, steel-toed boots?
00:00:05Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:07Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:09You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:11Somebody said we need to apologize for Jalen.
00:00:13Can I pull the John? What are we apologizing for? What did we say? What did we do?
00:00:17What in the world did we just witness?
00:00:32Bobby Manning, Jimmy Toscano, Game 4.
00:00:37I can't believe I'm looking at my hair right now.
00:00:41This is, this, yeah, toss it.
00:00:46It should be this.
00:00:47Honestly, burn them all. Forget it. Hardhats are canceled.
00:00:51They're no longer for sale.
00:00:55Hardhats are canceled.
00:00:56Ever. After that performance, you don't get to put the hardhat on tonight.
00:01:00Nobody deserves to put the hardhat on tonight.
00:01:02Yeah, Bobby might be the only person who watched the majority of this game,
00:01:05and he's going to run into the locker room here.
00:01:07So, Bobby, why don't you tell us a thing or two about a thing or two here?
00:01:12Yeah, that was a no-show, effective no-show from them tonight.
00:01:17Is it because they celebrated too early?
00:01:20Is it because Chris Stapps couldn't get out there and play anything?
00:01:24Or is it because Dallas just poured it all out?
00:01:28I think all of us expected Dallas to roll over.
00:01:31They came out and threw a major punch, and the Celtics didn't handle it.
00:01:37It went from like 13 to 20 into the second to 30 into the third,
00:01:42and the game just got worse and worse.
00:01:45I think the worst part is that the Celtics kept making it worse for themselves.
00:01:48Turnovers, holiday disaster in this one with the ball in his hands.
00:01:52Tatum and Brown, super ineffective scoring.
00:01:56Three-point settling throughout this one, and it all flowed into defensive mishaps.
00:02:02What's worse, Derek Jones gets going.
00:02:05Daniel Gafford gets going.
00:02:07P.J. Washington had some moments in this one.
00:02:09Lively gets going with a ton of energy.
00:02:12Who are these guys?
00:02:14Exum even. Exum off the bench had some moments in this one.
00:02:17So you woke up Kleber.
00:02:19You woke up pretty much everybody, every Mavs role player.
00:02:22And maybe it doesn't matter.
00:02:24Maybe there's a gentleman's sleep.
00:02:26But you gave them some life tonight, and they played with some life.
00:02:30Dallas did, certainly.
00:02:31So we're going to sit here and debate all night whether this is Boston just laying over
00:02:36or Dallas actually waking up here and showing something
00:02:38and being able to make this a little bit of a series.
00:02:41But this is not what you wanted to see here tonight.
00:02:44Yeah.
00:02:45But you're going to make this Porzingis thing a thing, aren't you?
00:02:47I can tell you're already a little fixated on it, right?
00:02:51I just don't get it.
00:02:52What was the plan?
00:02:53Roll him out at the end of the fourth and raise his hands?
00:02:55The plan was he was going to go out there as a human victory cigar.
00:02:58Why?
00:03:00Why?
00:03:01Because he deserves it.
00:03:02They wanted him to taste a bit of it.
00:03:04There's no like you're not like leaving a guy off the roster playing him by suiting him up.
00:03:11And he would have trotted out there, ran around, put his hands in the air,
00:03:14gotten to play in the clincher and been happy.
00:03:16That's why he was there.
00:03:18He wasn't there to play.
00:03:19I mean, we kind of knew that.
00:03:21This is a non-thing.
00:03:22Don't make this a thing.
00:03:25I just don't get it.
00:03:26If that's what it is, I guess I'll leave it at that.
00:03:28The players are not concerned that Joe didn't play Chris Stapps even though he was on the bench.
00:03:33Everybody knew.
00:03:34They're all in on it.
00:03:35Everybody knew his availability for tonight.
00:03:37This is not a thing.
00:03:38It's not a thing.
00:03:39Trust me.
00:03:40I'm telling you.
00:03:41It's not a thing.
00:03:42But as far as the Celtics, I'm a little worried.
00:03:46Not worried.
00:03:48Oh, boy.
00:03:49It's not worried.
00:03:50I'm worried about myself and what I said.
00:03:53I'm worried about you too.
00:03:54Wait.
00:03:55Yeah.
00:03:56So, one more thing on Porzingis.
00:03:58So, is he just done for the series?
00:04:01I think he is exactly what he is.
00:04:03I've never thought he's going to play in this series.
00:04:06I think if it's possible and you need him in a game seven, you throw everything you have out there because you're desperate.
00:04:13I don't believe he's playing.
00:04:15I don't think it has anything to do with this game at all.
00:04:17So, I'm going to move off Christophe Porzingis and talk about what happened here because you did have no shows from everybody who spent all of this time gushing over and praising.
00:04:28And you know what?
00:04:29I'm going to take a portion of blame on this one because I absolutely fawned over these guys in the beginning of the show, Jimmy, that, like, I didn't think Dallas was going to lay down so much as the Celtics weren't going to let them up off the mat.
00:04:44I thought they were going to stay relentless, take on any barrages and punches they had, keep doing what they do, and just grind them into submission because they're the superior team that makes them work on defense and makes them work on offense.
00:04:56It just doesn't give anything up easy.
00:04:58And they didn't.
00:04:59What happened, Jimmy?
00:05:00They didn't.
00:05:02No.
00:05:03They are who we thought they were.
00:05:05No.
00:05:06I'm not jumping off a ledge and I'm not panicking.
00:05:08I'm just a little surprised.
00:05:11I didn't see this.
00:05:12I thought, listen.
00:05:13I got mocked by the old lady, Jimmy, and I didn't see it coming.
00:05:17She was in a motorized car.
00:05:20I didn't see it coming.
00:05:22I thought they should have won this.
00:05:25You know, if you're like, oh, are the Celts going to win tonight?
00:05:27Yeah, they should win.
00:05:28They're clearly the better team.
00:05:29And the way that they've been playing, you would have hoped that they could have continued that on.
00:05:33I thought if they lost, it would have been a competitive game.
00:05:36But maybe, you know, Dallas just had some pride and they pulled it off.
00:05:41I didn't expect them to go down like this.
00:05:44Because if they lose, okay, they lose.
00:05:47But when you lose like this, then that's when the fear and the doubt and all those little things creep in a little bit more.
00:05:54It's like, okay, well, wait a second now.
00:05:56If somehow Dallas does pull off the win Monday, the momentum has completely shifted.
00:06:01They go back home where they just murdered you.
00:06:03And they could easily win at home again.
00:06:08And now it's like, whoa, wait a second.
00:06:11We're going to go to a game seven all of a sudden?
00:06:15I mean, obviously, I'm jumping ahead, but that's where my mind goes.
00:06:18And I think that's where other Celtics fans who are, you know, who struggle with PTSD like I do.
00:06:25I think that's where their heads go, too.
00:06:27Now, the strong ones can stay in the moment and can say, okay, they lost a game.
00:06:31They played like trash.
00:06:33It's over.
00:06:34Let's leave it in Dallas.
00:06:35Let's go back to Boston and play the way we've been playing in Boston.
00:06:39Just keep doing that.
00:06:40Do that thing all over again.
00:06:42The crowd's going to be on their side.
00:06:44It's going to be the loudest game in the last decade.
00:06:48And, you know, you still have every reason to believe they're going to win that game.
00:06:51But you just hate the effort that they showed tonight.
00:06:53You hate the stagnant.
00:06:54You hate the fact that the Mavericks just danced all over you, pumping their chest, dunking it.
00:07:03This team, I mean, I was following you guys all day, your coverage.
00:07:06Oh, the Mavericks didn't even show up today.
00:07:08They look so down, sullen and downtrodden.
00:07:10Yeah, we got to eat that one, John.
00:07:12You guys got fooled.
00:07:13You guys fooled me, I'll tell you that.
00:07:15Because of the way you guys were talking about it.
00:07:17All the Celtics are in great spirits.
00:07:19They're bopping and booping it all around town.
00:07:22And they're on the court, and they're having a good time.
00:07:24The Mavericks didn't even show up to practice, it sounded like.
00:07:27One thing stands out to me there, Jimmy.
00:07:31John was there this morning.
00:07:32Joe talked at shoot-around, which is weird.
00:07:35That doesn't happen.
00:07:36And he was very serious, very intense.
00:07:39That's what did it.
00:07:40Everything was about focus, details, focus, details.
00:07:45He wasn't even answering questions.
00:07:46He was just saying the same thing over and over again.
00:07:49Very serious look coming in the building here, too.
00:07:52You almost wonder if he just had that sense that, oh, we're feeling it a little too much right now.
00:08:01Because you can't just show up here 3-0 and expect to walk out of this building with an easy win.
00:08:07With Dallas just rolling over.
00:08:08He was very intense today.
00:08:10And it didn't work.
00:08:12He called six timeouts before the end of the third quarter.
00:08:16It didn't work.
00:08:17Neither of those things ever happens, John.
00:08:19So you just wonder if he had a little bit of a pulse of this team.
00:08:22And could feel that they were getting a little bit ahead of themselves here.
00:08:26I mean, there's no other explanation for this, right?
00:08:29This is the worst they've played in a month plus.
00:08:31Yeah, I mean, I don't know that Joe deciding to talk today was because he wanted to inform all of us that he was concerned about the team.
00:08:42I just think they had a shootaround and he made himself available.
00:08:46But whether he sensed this or not.
00:08:51And six timeouts before the end of the third.
00:08:53I mean, it was obvious at so many points that they weren't doing what they're supposed to be doing.
00:08:59They went away from a lot of what had been working for them.
00:09:02And we're going to bring in Sherrod Blakely, who I was sitting next to until I got so fed up by this game.
00:09:07I literally just walked to the concourse.
00:09:09Did you leave?
00:09:10For a quarter and a half.
00:09:11Did you really?
00:09:12I went down to the platinum level.
00:09:14They had much better food down there than up here on 300 where they have us.
00:09:17So if we end up back here for a game six, which I hope not, that's where I'm using my voucher.
00:09:22I also got a piece of chocolate cake.
00:09:24And then I just couldn't listen to it anymore.
00:09:27I couldn't watch it.
00:09:28There was so much despair.
00:09:30When they got locked on 25 points for like a year and a half.
00:09:35Forever.
00:09:36They were stuck at 25 points forever.
00:09:40And it just looked like they would never score again.
00:09:43I just didn't want to be there.
00:09:45So I left.
00:09:46I left.
00:09:47I left Sherrod by himself.
00:09:48And he wrote his game article.
00:09:50He had that thing ready to publish by the third quarter.
00:09:53And he probably did on his sub stack.
00:09:55So Sherrod, let's get your take here on what the f**k happened.
00:09:59This.
00:10:01It's hard to put this one in the words.
00:10:05But the bottom.
00:10:07Listen, keep it at 100.
00:10:09They didn't show up.
00:10:10They did not show up.
00:10:11They thought they could just show up.
00:10:13And Dallas would just roll over.
00:10:16And Dallas, instead of rolling over, they rolled over them.
00:10:19You had guys like Derrick Lively,
00:10:21who looked like the Derrick Lively that we saw in the Minnesota series.
00:10:24And in some of those earlier playoffs series.
00:10:26Yeah, damn near double-double it in the first half.
00:10:28There was not enough multiple effort plays.
00:10:32Not enough singular effort plays.
00:10:34Jason Tatum was in foul trouble.
00:10:35Jalen Brown couldn't make shots.
00:10:37Drew Holiday and Derrick White were just.
00:10:39I mean, it was as if they had a Luka Doncic,
00:10:44old school defensive lapster where they couldn't stop anyone.
00:10:47Couldn't make shots.
00:10:49Pretty much everything that could possibly go wrong for the Celtics went
00:10:52wrong in this game.
00:10:53I hate to hear that cheering in the background.
00:10:56I wanted it to be like somber Dallas.
00:10:59John, you're muted.
00:11:00I can't hear you.
00:11:01Sherrod's by the tunnel a little bit,
00:11:03so he's getting some of that right now.
00:11:04No, no, I'm not saying it's bothering me.
00:11:05I just hate.
00:11:06I just hate the fact that all those fans are so happy right now.
00:11:09Sherrod, why are you doing this to Jimmy?
00:11:11Why are you making him sadder?
00:11:12Yeah, sure.
00:11:13I thought we were boys.
00:11:15Because game five is going to be,
00:11:17we're going to remember this moment.
00:11:18And when game five happens,
00:11:19and then the Celtics are bottle popping and going through all that back
00:11:22into the garden,
00:11:23you're going to remember this moment and things like, oh yeah,
00:11:25it wasn't that big a deal.
00:11:26John, can I go to game five now since they're coming back?
00:11:29Yes.
00:11:30Whose credentials should I take?
00:11:31Bobby's.
00:11:32Bobby's got a lot of conspiracy theories right now.
00:11:34I'm a little worried.
00:11:35I'm a little worried to send him in there.
00:11:36Bobby's head is somewhere else.
00:11:38So yeah, it's Dallas.
00:11:39Dallas did it to him.
00:11:40The conspiracy.
00:11:42I was over at JFK today.
00:11:44First person shooter.
00:11:45Like everything's kind of,
00:11:46he's really looking for it here.
00:11:48It sounds like players are talking already though.
00:11:50So I'm going to head over there and see what people are saying.
00:11:53Okay.
00:11:54Let's go get him.
00:11:55Bobby, go get some sound.
00:11:56We're going to hang out here.
00:11:57Get down to the bottom of this, Bobby.
00:11:59What the hell happened out there?
00:12:00There's a story we don't know.
00:12:02Figure out what the hell happened pre-game.
00:12:04Something's up.
00:12:05Something happened.
00:12:06Get down to it.
00:12:07Okay, go.
00:12:09This is sad.
00:12:10This is sad.
00:12:11I mean, this is sad.
00:12:12I was hoping you guys were going to like have a,
00:12:15get a win, go party a little bit.
00:12:17He's really, I'm telling you, he's on this.
00:12:19He's, he's on this Chris steps thing that,
00:12:21that he believes Bobby's on the scent.
00:12:24He believes that the players were shocked and disappointed that for
00:12:27Zingas didn't play.
00:12:28And that might've taken something out of their sales.
00:12:30I'm serious.
00:12:31He's on that one.
00:12:32You got to watch this guy.
00:12:35If he comes back with sound, I'll eat that one too.
00:12:39I'll do, I'll do 12 apology camps.
00:12:41And then if I have to, I apologize.
00:12:43Sharada.
00:12:44I apologize for being so positive.
00:12:46Wow.
00:12:48Okay.
00:12:49Look what I did before the game.
00:12:51I got, I, I, I delivered my.
00:12:54What's the opposite of a eulogy.
00:12:56I don't know.
00:12:59Like a Celtics valedictorian speech.
00:13:04I don't know what it was.
00:13:05I gushed over them.
00:13:06I gushed.
00:13:08Well, I mean,
00:13:09they had been doing everything that we had been wanting them to do
00:13:12forever.
00:13:13They took all their bonuses.
00:13:15They handled their business.
00:13:17I did not see them getting their ass kicked like this.
00:13:19There was a chance that they could lose,
00:13:20but I did not think that it would be a damn near 40 point.
00:13:24It almost got to 50.
00:13:26I know.
00:13:27I thought it was, I thought it was, I wanted it.
00:13:29It was hilarious.
00:13:30You and I were you and Sharada and I were literally laughing at each
00:13:33other.
00:13:34We were laughing.
00:13:35We're like, let's go.
00:13:36Let's go to 50.
00:13:38We just kept hitting threes and it almost got there.
00:13:41It was hysterical.
00:13:44It was, it was, I hope the pace has just gotten out of their system.
00:13:48That's not a good, like,
00:13:50that's not a good dispersive points for the series.
00:13:52If you're just going to drop them all in one game,
00:13:55that's not going to bode well for you for the other game.
00:13:57That's what I'm hoping happened here.
00:13:58They got hot one game.
00:13:59They rode the momentum of the crowd.
00:14:01They didn't fully embarrass themselves.
00:14:03They can feel good about going back to Boston and losing in five games.
00:14:05That's what I'm hoping happens here.
00:14:07Did Luca do anything differently guys?
00:14:10Did Luca like,
00:14:11Jimmy, well, defensively, he was better.
00:14:15I think he was definitely better.
00:14:17But the bigger thing wasn't so much Luca,
00:14:21but it was the other guys making shots early on.
00:14:24I mean, you know, PJ Washington, lively around the basket,
00:14:28Derek Jones made a shot or two.
00:14:31Dante Exum was knocking down shots.
00:14:34I mean,
00:14:35those were the guys that allowed them to kind of push that lead out early on
00:14:39because Luca really wasn't that impactful early on.
00:14:42And he just kind of,
00:14:43kind of did what Luca does and get a bucket here, a bucket there.
00:14:46But those guys were the ones that I thought really set the tone for Dallas
00:14:50to kind of put some cushion between themselves,
00:14:52which is not all that surprising because as we know,
00:14:54guys tend to play better when they're at home.
00:14:56Let me ask you guys a question.
00:14:58Raise your hand.
00:14:59If you thought the Celtics effort wasn't there tonight.
00:15:02Okay.
00:15:03Raise your hand.
00:15:04Raise your hand.
00:15:05If you didn't love the process and the way they went about things.
00:15:09Me.
00:15:10Do you know who disagrees with you?
00:15:11Bobby.
00:15:12This guy.
00:15:13Joe.
00:15:14At all.
00:15:15And when did you see that you guys just didn't have it?
00:15:17Cause it seemed like no one across the board played well.
00:15:21I mean,
00:15:22I don't know.
00:15:23Always in situations like this,
00:15:24it's always goes back to us,
00:15:25but you gotta give Dallas credit.
00:15:26They just played.
00:15:27They played well.
00:15:28They played really,
00:15:29really well.
00:15:30And that's the reason why that they're in.
00:15:32This was because when they play like that,
00:15:34so I thought they just outplayed us.
00:15:36Jared on the right.
00:15:37Jared,
00:15:38why is the athletic?
00:15:39We've talked a lot about the metaphor of like the chokehold and UFC
00:15:42fighting and trying to make sure that you finish the submission.
00:15:45Now that you guys were in literally in that position,
00:15:48like actual title on the line,
00:15:49chance to finish it out.
00:15:50It didn't work.
00:15:51Why do you think all that preparation didn't work in this moment?
00:15:54What did you guys try to work through going back to your principles there?
00:15:57Yeah.
00:15:58I mean,
00:15:59I think just preparation doesn't guarantee an automatic success.
00:16:01And so I thought we had a great process.
00:16:03I thought we had a great shoot around.
00:16:05I thought we had a great film session yesterday.
00:16:07I thought the guys came out with the right intentions and I just,
00:16:09you know,
00:16:10didn't think it went our way.
00:16:11And I thought Dallas outplayed us.
00:16:12I thought they just played harder.
00:16:13So,
00:16:14you know,
00:16:15you have to prepare to put yourself in the best possible position,
00:16:17but it doesn't guarantee anything.
00:16:18And so at the end of the day,
00:16:19we got to just maintain our process and get ready for game five.
00:16:25Well,
00:16:26part of that process is preparation is making sure you're ready to go.
00:16:30That's part of the process.
00:16:31And they did not execute that part of the process.
00:16:36They,
00:16:37they did not play with the kind of effort that you should have when you're
00:16:40this close to putting a team away.
00:16:42The analogy that he likes to use the MMS chokehold.
00:16:44Yeah.
00:16:45They basically,
00:16:46they let them off the mat.
00:16:47They had them right where they want them and they let them off the mat.
00:16:50Yeah.
00:16:51And it doesn't,
00:16:52that fight doesn't bother me much.
00:16:53You know,
00:16:54this wasn't like you,
00:16:55you obviously saw one thing and something else happened.
00:16:57Yes.
00:16:58Dallas played well.
00:16:59Yes.
00:17:00Dallas made the Celtics play poorly.
00:17:01And yes,
00:17:02also the Celtics just couldn't buy a bucket,
00:17:05even good,
00:17:06even good shots early.
00:17:07And then I do think that they started to force like crazy.
00:17:10It's that you're down a million points and you're trying to get it all
00:17:13back in one shot.
00:17:14And they kind of got out of their process as things went on.
00:17:17And I think Joe saw it because he called a hundred timeouts because he just
00:17:21kept seeing them not doing what they're supposed to be doing.
00:17:23And then eventually he took them all out of the game because they just
00:17:26weren't doing it and it did get bad and they got whiny and complaining.
00:17:30Brown was a no-show really in,
00:17:33you know,
00:17:34in the entire first half Tatum,
00:17:35you know,
00:17:36got some scoring going early,
00:17:37but then he just,
00:17:38you know,
00:17:39didn't go well.
00:17:40And he was really,
00:17:41really,
00:17:42really forcing the issue.
00:17:44And,
00:17:45you know,
00:17:46Joe's not going to go out there and slam his players.
00:17:47But again,
00:17:48to Bobby's point earlier,
00:17:50he was wondering if Joe maybe saw something he didn't like.
00:17:52No,
00:17:53he didn't.
00:17:54And Jimmy,
00:17:55when I'm saying like,
00:17:56they looked confident,
00:17:57they look relaxed.
00:17:58Like they were just saying the right things.
00:17:59They were acting the right way.
00:18:00It didn't feel loose.
00:18:01And that's how they felt before game three as well.
00:18:03Like really,
00:18:04really kind of the same sort of vibe with them.
00:18:06Like,
00:18:07we know we're good.
00:18:08We just got to go do what we do.
00:18:09And then they did it in game three.
00:18:11And you felt,
00:18:12especially when they went down early and you're like,
00:18:14they got it,
00:18:15man,
00:18:16they're,
00:18:17they're committed to the process.
00:18:18They were,
00:18:19and it felt like it.
00:18:20So again,
00:18:21a bit of a perfect storm,
00:18:22I think there,
00:18:23where all of that stuff happened.
00:18:25And instead of coming back from that 13 point deficit,
00:18:29it just kept getting further out of reach and further out of reach and they
00:18:33could never get there.
00:18:34And then,
00:18:35as we said,
00:18:36they just couldn't put the ball in the fricking ocean.
00:18:37And at that point,
00:18:38despair set in.
00:18:39And I think it was just,
00:18:40that's it done.
00:18:41They,
00:18:42they got frustrated.
00:18:43I agree.
00:18:44It wasn't a total no show.
00:18:45They were disconnected and sloppy.
00:18:47And then nothing fell.
00:18:48It wasn't walking around all game.
00:18:51I,
00:18:52I,
00:18:53I don't think that's the case.
00:18:54No,
00:18:55I,
00:18:56they weren't walking around,
00:18:57but I,
00:18:58did they fall back in the habit of the shots aren't falling?
00:19:00Like,
00:19:01what was me type type deal?
00:19:02Because they definitely got frustrated.
00:19:03Yeah.
00:19:04There was some frustration.
00:19:05And the defense wasn't great.
00:19:06They were disconnected.
00:19:07I mean,
00:19:08this game was over in three.
00:19:09This game was over in like two and a half quarters.
00:19:11I mean,
00:19:12you can't even count.
00:19:13You can't even count the fourth quarter.
00:19:15Yeah.
00:19:16It's like,
00:19:17they didn't even have enough time to not show enough effort.
00:19:19Like it just happened.
00:19:20So like from,
00:19:21what was it like midway through the first quarter to like,
00:19:24it took like 18 basketball minutes for this game to end,
00:19:28which is kind of wild how quickly it all kind of happened.
00:19:31Yeah.
00:19:32And there was a look,
00:19:33then the refs frustrated them.
00:19:34It was a weird,
00:19:35inconsistently called game.
00:19:36And I think the series has been inconsistent as well.
00:19:38And look,
00:19:39Scott Foster is very good at what he does,
00:19:42you know?
00:19:43And like,
00:19:44it was the Celtics might've gotten some tiki tac stuff called on them.
00:19:47And maybe,
00:19:48you know,
00:19:49the Mavs got away with being a little bit more physical with the
00:19:51Celtics.
00:19:52And that frustrated them as well and knocked them off their game.
00:19:55Some,
00:19:56I'm not putting this all on the extender,
00:19:58but there's a,
00:19:59there's a,
00:20:00there's a,
00:20:01there's,
00:20:02there's a reason why he does what he does and he shows up when he
00:20:04shows up.
00:20:05But I'm not,
00:20:06I'm not,
00:20:07I don't,
00:20:08I don't,
00:20:09I don't complain about refs.
00:20:10I don't make the refs the thing.
00:20:11I just think the way the game was officiated certainly got into their,
00:20:15got into their,
00:20:16got into their heads a little bit,
00:20:18you know?
00:20:19Yeah.
00:20:20And that's,
00:20:21and that's the problem.
00:20:22That's the problem.
00:20:23When they see Foster,
00:20:25do they,
00:20:26do they think the same thing we think like,
00:20:28oh,
00:20:29great.
00:20:30Like here comes Scott Foster.
00:20:31Like to hear,
00:20:32Oh,
00:20:33Dallas must've been like,
00:20:34nice.
00:20:35Here we go.
00:20:36That's our guy.
00:20:37Yeah.
00:20:38Yeah.
00:20:39Yeah.
00:20:40Yeah.
00:20:41It sucks.
00:20:42But the good news though,
00:20:44about that is that he will not do game five.
00:20:46Really?
00:20:47I mean,
00:20:48I,
00:20:49this comment is bizarre.
00:20:50Literally everybody knows that this is a thing.
00:20:52It's it's like,
00:20:53it's such a thing that it's like almost like trite to even mention that
00:20:57it's a thing.
00:20:58But anyway,
00:20:59it's not the reason the Celtics lost the game here.
00:21:01If you're getting a,
00:21:02if you're an NBA official getting a NBA finals call,
00:21:05it's pretty well,
00:21:06like you're considered a good referee.
00:21:08They're not,
00:21:09they're not putting in the B squad for the NBA.
00:21:12They know what he's doing.
00:21:13He knows Scott Foster has a job to do,
00:21:16you know?
00:21:17And he's consistent with doing his job.
00:21:19Yeah.
00:21:20Anyway,
00:21:21again,
00:21:22appreciating is not the reason they lost this game,
00:21:23but it definitely got into their minds a little bit for this,
00:21:27for this thing for,
00:21:29for the way it was being called,
00:21:30but really it was just,
00:21:32they just couldn't hit a freaking shot.
00:21:33They just couldn't hit a shot and they lost their process a little bit.
00:21:36I think the maps were pretty good at like understanding what they're going to
00:21:39do.
00:21:40And they packed the paint like crazy.
00:21:41The thing that happened here was the blow buys weren't as prevalent as,
00:21:46you know,
00:21:47in games past and,
00:21:48you know,
00:21:49give Luca his credit.
00:21:50He did some defense tonight.
00:21:54He did a little defense.
00:21:55He did.
00:21:56Yeah.
00:21:57And they,
00:21:58they allowed him to be a little bit more physical,
00:21:59you know,
00:22:00and his credit,
00:22:01he did a much better job of not putting himself in bad positions where it
00:22:06becomes an obvious foul.
00:22:08He,
00:22:09for the most part,
00:22:10stay between the ball handlers and the rim.
00:22:12Even though there was some,
00:22:14there was some non calls that you could have made,
00:22:16could have technically made a call against him.
00:22:19But the bottom line is there was a certain consistency about his defense in
00:22:22this game that was not there in games one,
00:22:24two or three.
00:22:25So it'll be interesting to see how the Celtics respond to that in game five.
00:22:31Yeah.
00:22:32Thank you,
00:22:33Catherine.
00:22:34This is basically what I said here.
00:22:35It's we,
00:22:36we know what Scott Foster does.
00:22:37That's not why they lost the game.
00:22:38They were God awful on offense,
00:22:40disconnected on defense game got so far away from,
00:22:43they got frustrated and then just never made an effort to get back into it.
00:22:46And that's that.
00:22:47And that's that.
00:22:48And Jimmy mine and Jimmy's prediction of Celtics in five is still hanging on
00:22:52here.
00:22:53About it.
00:22:54Here is we got Sam Hauser in the locker room right here talking about what
00:22:58kind of lessons were learned about talking about why Porzingis didn't play
00:23:02Bobby,
00:23:03not at the ceiling.
00:23:04What do you take from it?
00:23:07It's a learning lesson for sure.
00:23:08Gotta show up and show out every night.
00:23:10They're not going to roll over.
00:23:12You know,
00:23:13they're,
00:23:14you know,
00:23:15they're down three,
00:23:16three,
00:23:17one now,
00:23:18like they're desperate.
00:23:19So they're not going to roll over and not going to make it easy.
00:23:20How much,
00:23:21you know,
00:23:22how much would you think about just watch that film and then Europe?
00:23:24Yeah,
00:23:25I'm sure we'll break it down and learn from it.
00:23:27And,
00:23:28you know,
00:23:29take a week and need to get better at it and carry it on again.
00:23:31Be better.
00:23:41Except nobody wants to lose a game on the road anywhere,
00:23:46obviously,
00:23:47but now you're going back home in front of your home fans.
00:23:49Is there anything you can take from that as far as getting ready and prepared
00:23:52for game five?
00:23:53Well,
00:23:54you know,
00:23:55like any other game in this series,
00:23:56honestly,
00:23:57whether it's home or away,
00:23:59we just got to be ready to go.
00:24:00Is there anything different pregame that you could sense?
00:24:03No.
00:24:04I mean,
00:24:05I thought we were all ready to go and obviously didn't really go our way
00:24:08tonight.
00:24:09And I don't think it had anything to do with our pregame.
00:24:12After tonight,
00:24:13like tonight will be the feeling of getting back out on that court as soon
00:24:16as you can.
00:24:17Can't wait.
00:24:18Wish we could do it right now.
00:24:19I'm glad you have a night off.
00:24:22Sam is pissed.
00:24:24Sam is pissed.
00:24:25Sam is pissed.
00:24:27Sam's when we talked to a shoot around,
00:24:29he was raring to go.
00:24:30He was ready to go.
00:24:31He showed up.
00:24:32He showed up a little bit tonight.
00:24:34He tried.
00:24:35He tried.
00:24:36His defense wasn't quite as good as it's been the first two or three
00:24:39games,
00:24:40but you know,
00:24:41he made a shot.
00:24:42Right.
00:24:43And he competed.
00:24:44I mean,
00:24:45that's the thing about it.
00:24:46I mean,
00:24:47I didn't feel like he was out there that he wasn't giving great effort.
00:24:48He didn't always work out for him,
00:24:49but the effort was definitely there.
00:24:51I can't say that for most of the guys on this team.
00:24:54This was just,
00:24:55it's just a weird game.
00:24:56Not necessarily because they got their asses kicked so badly,
00:25:00but because it was so much on the line.
00:25:02I mean,
00:25:03this was basically,
00:25:04this was like the last hurdle to get that only goal you've set for
00:25:07yourself all season.
00:25:08And you,
00:25:09you just crapped out.
00:25:10You played our,
00:25:12you know,
00:25:13you played your worst game of the post season.
00:25:15Gotta be the worst loss up three.
00:25:18Oh,
00:25:19it's gotta be like up there.
00:25:20It's up there.
00:25:21Yeah.
00:25:22Like point differential wise,
00:25:23like in the NBA,
00:25:24like if you're up three,
00:25:25oh,
00:25:26in a series,
00:25:27how many teams have lost by 38 points?
00:25:29Right.
00:25:30Probably not many,
00:25:31not many.
00:25:32No,
00:25:33no.
00:25:34So yeah,
00:25:35this is that killer mentality that again,
00:25:37they've had it.
00:25:38They've had it this year.
00:25:39I'm not going to just,
00:25:40I'm not going to go completely 180 on my,
00:25:41on my feelings about this team,
00:25:43but this just,
00:25:44this wasn't,
00:25:45this was unlike them.
00:25:46This was unlike them.
00:25:47You know,
00:25:48I haven't even talked about it.
00:25:49Like everyone keeps saying,
00:25:51you know,
00:25:52bringing up the past and bringing up the past,
00:25:54like we're a different team now.
00:25:55Well,
00:25:56okay.
00:25:57But this,
00:25:58this was like,
00:25:59this was,
00:26:00that hurts them a lot,
00:26:02Jimmy.
00:26:03I,
00:26:04I agree there because you know,
00:26:06this is where we're going to get a little stuck,
00:26:08right?
00:26:09Is does everybody get one of these?
00:26:11I have other teams laid eggs on big stages.
00:26:13Yes.
00:26:14Have they done it and come back and played well in one?
00:26:16Have they done it in one titles?
00:26:17Yes.
00:26:19But you want to shut those narratives down.
00:26:21Yeah.
00:26:22Then you can't do this.
00:26:24Like you can't,
00:26:25you can't do this.
00:26:27Like there's a lot of people like do great teams lose by 50.
00:26:31And the answer is,
00:26:33the answer is honestly,
00:26:35yes,
00:26:36but it's still weird.
00:26:37It just,
00:26:38I mean,
00:26:39thank,
00:26:40I said this earlier.
00:26:41Thank God.
00:26:42It's Friday for chats,
00:26:43guys.
00:26:44Thank you very much.
00:26:45Amazing.
00:26:46You are amazing.
00:26:47And thank you.
00:26:48Veli,
00:26:49Vel,
00:26:50Vel.
00:26:51If you can't play defense.
00:26:52Yeah.
00:26:53Look,
00:26:54I get it.
00:26:55I think there's an element of officiating here.
00:26:56That's worth.
00:26:57Acknowledging.
00:26:58But again,
00:26:59I'm not going to go all the way there,
00:27:00but I said it earlier.
00:27:01Thank God,
00:27:02guys.
00:27:03It's the weekend and we don't have,
00:27:04you know,
00:27:05Felger and,
00:27:06and Stephen,
00:27:07a,
00:27:08and these guys,
00:27:09you know,
00:27:10nonstop.
00:27:11Look,
00:27:12I mean,
00:27:13it's not like we're,
00:27:14it's not like we're adverse to throwing out a hot take from time to
00:27:16time.
00:27:17It would,
00:27:18it's going to be like,
00:27:19they're the same losers.
00:27:20And I just,
00:27:21it's just,
00:27:22it's,
00:27:23there's,
00:27:24I can't do it.
00:27:25I can't do it.
00:27:26I can't.
00:27:27Can't play together.
00:27:28Break them up.
00:27:29Get rid of them.
00:27:30If any team could lose four,
00:27:31it's them.
00:27:32I can't do it.
00:27:33I can't.
00:27:34Celtics all the way.
00:27:35I can't.
00:27:36Please.
00:27:37Hope,
00:27:38please.
00:27:39I hope we finished the maps on Monday,
00:27:40but seven,
00:27:41I have no hope in us winning that game.
00:27:43Maybe I'm panicking too much,
00:27:44but this team loves letting go of leads way too much.
00:27:46You are panicking too much because this isn't reality.
00:27:47Not this year.
00:27:48It's not this team.
00:27:49And I'm sorry,
00:27:50it's not the case.
00:27:51They've been terrific in the clutch throughout the entire playoffs.
00:27:52And they have,
00:27:53you know,
00:27:54Done the whole,
00:27:55they lose this game last year thing.
00:27:56A ton this year.

00:34:56so,
00:34:57literally no one other than maybe Sam Houser who didn't fall into the we sucked
00:35:01category.
00:35:02I mean, they all sucked, from Joe to Jalen to Tatum,
00:35:07to anyone who stepped on the floor pretty much did not get the job done.
00:35:12And that's disturbing, but you have to keep in mind that
00:35:17the likelihood of the Celtics having back to back games like that is very small.
00:35:20And conversely, the likelihood that Dallas is going to string together two
00:35:25really good games where others besides Luca and
00:35:27Kyrie are making significant contributions.
00:35:30That happened tonight for the first time in the series, and I'm not convinced that
00:35:33that's going to be something that they can galvanize and use going forward.
00:35:37I fully expect them to handle their business in game five.
00:35:40I think there's going to be a little bit more of focus on the details.
00:35:45I don't think effort is going to be an issue in game five.
00:35:48And if effort is not an issue, I just don't see how Dallas,
00:35:52no matter how well they play, can beat this team if they are locked in and
00:35:56focused where we've seen them for the better part of this postseason run.
00:35:59I hope that Joe Swaye picks their ass and that Joe Swaye Pavone ain't.
00:36:04John, you're muted again.
00:36:05I got Joe Swaye Pavone maybe ready.
00:36:07I need a thumbs up or someone to put it in the chat if he's ready.
00:36:09Okay, he's ready.
00:36:10We're bringing in Joe Swaye.
00:36:12What's going on?
00:36:13Joe Swaye, give us your take.
00:36:16Man, look, the Dallas Mavericks from the out rebounding,
00:36:21the South is flat out like plus 21 second chance opportunities.
00:36:26Defense and transition was weak for the South things.
00:36:29I mean, the Dallas Mavericks essentially punch these guys in the mouth and
00:36:32so they just didn't know how to respond.
00:36:33It seemed like or the way that they were trying to respond to turn into turnovers
00:36:37and guys just trying to find the offensive rhythm that just never happened.
00:36:41And it wasn't just Luca and it wasn't just Kyrie.
00:36:43Obviously, they were the ones leading things, especially Luca.
00:36:46This is a heck of a game for him.
00:36:48I just thought their defense was just another.
00:36:50That was a version of the Mavericks defense that I haven't seen this entire
00:36:54series and it played a big part in disrupting the Celtics.
00:36:58Luca, believe it or not, putting effort on that end of the floor,
00:37:03which I expected, and he took it up another notch.
00:37:06Close out, three pointers, getting in White's face.
00:37:09There were so many instances throughout this series where there was time that he
00:37:14could have done that and he would just watch Derek or
00:37:16he would watch the one blow past him, not in this game.
00:37:19And I think that everyone sort of did their part in hitting down some big
00:37:22hitting some big shots, guys off the bench, lively was tremendous, man.
00:37:26Some of those second chance opportunities and rebounds and
00:37:28putbacks really, really damaged what the Celtics were trying to do in a sense of
00:37:33just try to find an offensive rhythm, string together some stops and
00:37:37they couldn't do it.
00:37:38I mean, Sam Houser was like the only guy who was efficient out there,
00:37:41found his shot early and often, but everyone else just struggled, lagged.
00:37:45It was a disappointing effort, for sure.
00:37:48I mean, the Celtics haven't looked like that in a very, very long time and
00:37:51it was their worst performance of the postseason for sure.
00:37:57Just way make us feel better.
00:38:00Tell me something that's gonna come.
00:38:01The Celtics won't won't do this again.
00:38:03Like that's the thing about these guys.
00:38:05They always bounce back when they have performances like this.
00:38:08Ice cold shooting, especially I don't think that carries over.
00:38:12But look, the Dallas Mavericks, man, they have nothing to lose.
00:38:14They're going back to Boston with nothing to lose.
00:38:16No one's expecting them to still win this series.
00:38:19Luka Doncic saying that he's doing his absolute best to get other guys involved.
00:38:23And it took a little bit of something from everyone, right?
00:38:25Whether it's Dante Exum, Lively off the bench, Tim Hardaway.
00:38:29Listen, I know it's garbage time, but that's the kind of stuff that definitely
00:38:33carries over for a shooter like Tim Hardaway,
00:38:37who hasn't made a three since May 19th or something like that.
00:38:40He made a bunch of them out here and the crowd got into it.
00:38:45The celebrating and all that stuff.
00:38:46Again, these guys have nothing to lose.
00:38:48But the Celtics, there's no way you see that type of effort in game five.
00:38:54Yeah.
00:38:54Glad to hear that.
00:38:55I'm glad to hear you say that, Josue, cuz that's my concern.
00:38:58Do you believe me, Jimmy, though?
00:38:59I do believe you.
00:39:00I choose to believe you.
00:39:02I choose to believe in this team.
00:39:03I stopped doubting them a while back, even though a lot of people still do and
00:39:08did and probably will after tonight.
00:39:11This could just be a little blip.
00:39:13That's my hope, is that this is just a little blip.
00:39:15If the Celtics take care of business Friday-
00:39:16It's a long overdue blip.
00:39:17I mean, sorry, if the Celtics take care of business Monday,
00:39:20we're never even gonna talk about this game.
00:39:21It'll never, it'll be like it never happened.
00:39:24So that's my hope.
00:39:25Tim Hardaway Jr.
00:39:26is so far down the list of things I'm worried about right now.
00:39:30I'm not worried about him, but here's my question.
00:39:32They didn't- I'm not worried about him, but
00:39:33they got someone off the bench now, John.
00:39:35Yeah, watch out.
00:39:37Make sure you don't wake up Spima Heilig here, too.
00:39:41You don't wanna wake him up.
00:39:42A lot of people are saying that Tim Hardaway Jr. should've got-
00:39:44There's a reason he doesn't play, guys.
00:39:46It's not like Jason Kidd discovered tonight, like, oh, shit.
00:39:49I should've been playing this guy.
00:39:50There's a reason he hasn't been playing.
00:39:52Yeah, but you act like he's like historically bad.
00:39:56He just had a really bad second half of the season.
00:39:58I just think if after you've lost three games in the finals and
00:40:03you really needed to throw a Hail Mary and try any different combos and
00:40:07he hasn't played a freaking minute outside of garbage time,
00:40:09then he's not in their plans.
00:40:12That's what I think.
00:40:13Right, John, but they've turned to him, like we talked about in pregame,
00:40:16with the way he turned to Exum, the way he turned to Hardaway.
00:40:19It took two or three possessions for
00:40:20Jason Kidd to be like, oh my gosh, I'm scared.
00:40:23Get him out of there, get him out of there.
00:40:24He had to go away from that.
00:40:26He had to play these guys.
00:40:27And yeah, Tim Hardaway was still sort of in the doghouse, but Dante Exum, man,
00:40:30he really got these guys going, a sense of energy,
00:40:33just something that they needed off the bench.
00:40:36They tried Exum and Hardy early in game three, and they're like, nope.
00:40:39Hardy as well, yeah.
00:40:40They tried them, and good, try them again.
00:40:42That's what you want.
00:40:43Go ahead, put these guys in and expect this out of your role players again.
00:40:48I'm praying.
00:40:50Their bench stinks, they might as well.
00:40:52I'm praying that's what they do next game, is yep, put it on the hands of those guys
00:40:56and see if they repeat this type of performance.
00:40:58That shit never happens.
00:41:00In fact, that's just my belief.
00:41:02Rather than be confident because they got this out of them this time,
00:41:05I'd be super confident they'll never repeat this.
00:41:08So yeah, go to those guys.
00:41:09Go to Exum early and often in game five, see what happens.
00:41:12That's at least my take on it.
00:41:14We could be wrong.
00:41:15Maybe they woke up a sleeping giant.
00:41:17I'm not sure.
00:41:18Here's Drew Holiday about who the hell knows what.
00:41:21He was bad.
00:41:23Still about not letting things filter in about having an opportunity
00:41:27to win a championship tonight.
00:41:29Do you feel that played a role at all in terms of what we saw out there?
00:41:33I think winning is hard.
00:41:35I think winning any game is hard.
00:41:36But winning game four of the NBA Finals is pretty damn hard.
00:41:41So no, I think they came out desperate.
00:41:45And I think they punched us in the mouth.
00:41:46And we couldn't recover the way we wanted to.
00:41:50In the front.
00:41:52Drew, in your experience, how can such a massive win give momentum
00:41:56to a team like Dallas?
00:41:57And how do you slow them down?
00:42:01I guess a massive win would be, I don't know.
00:42:06I think the role players came in, and they felt good.
00:42:09Obviously, they're at home.
00:42:10But things that we have to control, we will do our best to do that.
00:42:14And come back at home and do the best we can to win.
00:42:17Where do you see the series at this point?
00:42:20Is the opportunity obviously still there for you guys?
00:42:23I think the series is 3-1, going back to Boston.
00:42:28Thank you.
00:42:30Thank you.
00:42:31Keep it simple, Drew.
00:42:33Keep it simple.
00:42:34Back with Josue Pavone.
00:42:35Guys, I'm just letting you know, I'm not blocking moderator.
00:42:38I'm not blocking people.
00:42:40Is this guy just going to walk right there?
00:42:42That's just how it's going to go?
00:42:43Yeah, for real.
00:42:43That's how he feels.
00:42:45I literally gave him a damn.
00:42:47It's all right.
00:42:47Go ahead.
00:42:48He didn't know I was on.
00:42:49It's fine.
00:42:50The microphone and you sitting there, that didn't cue him.
00:42:54The arena's not big enough.
00:42:56That's where he chose to walk?
00:42:58Look, a fan is up in the stands with a microphone.
00:43:00What the fuck is that guy doing?
00:43:02I wonder who he's talking to.
00:43:03He could have literally walked anywhere else in the entire arena.
00:43:07He's like, I'm going to drop there.
00:43:10There's like 12 of us left.
00:43:12It's like he's walked through one of the 12 guys left out here.
00:43:16Oh my god.
00:43:17Anyway.
00:43:18He's on his way to my place.
00:43:20He's going to walk by here next.
00:43:22Guys, real quick, I'll let you know, because there's
00:43:24some people in the chat who are mad about stuff.
00:43:27I'm not going to block somebody for being annoying or bothering Celtics fans,
00:43:33but don't spam the chat.
00:43:34I'll tell you that.
00:43:35Spammy is bad.
00:43:37Also, just don't be an asshole, because I'll get rid of you there, too.
00:43:40But yeah.
00:43:40Those are the rules, pretty much.
00:43:41That's it.
00:43:42Yeah.
00:43:43But you can be a bit of a troll.
00:43:46I don't mind if some Dallas people leak in here and start giving us shit.
00:43:49We can take it, right?
00:43:50You can take it.
00:43:51You got to be able to take it.
00:43:54This is a victory for the lab.
00:43:56Where have they been?
00:43:56But all right.
00:43:57That's fine.
00:43:58Yeah.
00:43:58This is their victory quarter lap that they can take right now.
00:44:01We got this.
00:44:03Y'all got one.
00:44:06Yeah.
00:44:06Where are we right now on the panic meter, guys?
00:44:12Nowhere.
00:44:13I don't like that panic meter.
00:44:14I like the one that's a video where we can look at our faces.
00:44:18I'm not even going to put myself on a panic meter.
00:44:23I'm not even on the panic meter.
00:44:24Be like Drew Holiday.
00:44:26You heard Drew Holiday just now.
00:44:27We should all be that cool.
00:44:29Does he look concerned?
00:44:30Does he sound concerned?
00:44:32He's the same.
00:44:33It doesn't matter if you won game four or lost game four.
00:44:36That's probably how he would have sounded up there on the stage.
00:44:38So we got to take a page out of Drew Holiday's book.
00:44:42Just, you know, just everyone.
00:44:44Everyone get your eight hours tonight.
00:44:46Don't lose sleep over tonight's loss.
00:44:47Is it okay if I eat?
00:44:50You're going to anyways.
00:44:52As long as it's not like chips.
00:44:54Remember when Jimmy used to do that?
00:44:55You can mute yourself so I don't have to hear you chew.
00:44:59Just what you want to do is hear.
00:45:00I feel like the host is like the one person that can't eat.
00:45:02The gum smacking.
00:45:04Let's see if John can pull it up.
00:45:06Cake. Chocolate cake.
00:45:09Cake? You have cake here?
00:45:10I didn't see that.
00:45:11So I'll tell you this.
00:45:13If we end up back in Dallas, pro move.
00:45:15Oh, John.
00:45:17Go on to the second level.
00:45:18Go on to the second level.
00:45:20They got much better eats there.
00:45:21That's where the classy people hang out.
00:45:23And I went there.
00:45:24That's the platinum level with all the sweets and stuff.
00:45:27And I was like, holy crap.
00:45:28Yeah, I'll take some cake.
00:45:30And, you know, they treated me like royalty down there was great.
00:45:34So yeah, bad, bad, all sorts of bad, bad all around.
00:45:38All kinds of bad.
00:45:39Yeah, all kinds of every single bad.
00:45:42I'll tell you what's not bad.
00:45:44HelloFresh.
00:45:45Yeah, I shouldn't be eating cake at 11.
00:45:46That is not bad at all.
00:45:47But you can get down with some healthy meals here with HelloFresh.
00:45:52Valued partner of us here at the Garden Report.

00:46:40Again, it helps you reduce food waste too.
00:46:42That's the best thing.
00:46:43Josue loves it because he knows.
00:46:45He knows what happens.
00:46:46He knows what happens when you buy a bunch of cilantro and you only need a little.
00:46:50You know, you tossed it and here you don't have to do that.
00:46:52So again, you get the summer menu right now and you get a really, really, really good deal.

00:47:16That's HelloFresh.com slash garden apps.
00:47:20Get in on it now, guys.
00:47:22What's your favorite appetizer?
00:47:24In the world?
00:47:26In America.
00:47:27Yeah.
00:47:27In America.
00:47:29Yeah.
00:47:30That's a tough call, Jimmy.
00:47:31Favorite appetizer.
00:47:32I mean, it all-
00:47:34You know, you open up the menu.
00:47:35What do you want to see?
00:47:36Like, what do you want to-
00:47:37But it all depends-
00:47:37I want calamari.
00:47:39Calamari.
00:47:40That's what I want.
00:47:40Okay.
00:47:41It all depends on the place.
00:47:42A little marinara?
00:47:43No.
00:47:46It depends on the place, Jimmy, for me.
00:47:48Because it's got to be-
00:47:48If I'm at a steakhouse, I like to eat like, you know, things like carpaccio and raw.
00:47:52Like-
00:47:53We're not talking about steakhouses.
00:47:54Oysters and things like that.
00:47:55But if you're in like a little bar and grill sort of situation, you're looking at the whole menu.
00:48:00You're at the nines.
00:48:01Oddly enough, if I'm just going straight bar apps,
00:48:05I only get wings at like places that have great wings.
00:48:08Bad wings really make me sad.
00:48:10But I'm such a sucker for-
00:48:12And I don't order them often.
00:48:13I'm such a sucker for potato skins.
00:48:15I freaking love them.
00:48:16Wow.
00:48:16You're the guy.
00:48:17I love potato skins.
00:48:20I do.
00:48:21So you're going like cheese, sour cream, bacon on the skin?
00:48:24How are we doing in here?
00:48:25I could have them a lot of different ways.
00:48:27But yes, I love a good potato skin.
00:48:29I really do.
00:48:29I like potatoes a great deal.
00:48:31But you can do the whole thing.
00:48:32You want to make a little nachos out of your tater tot situation too.
00:48:36I can get down with that.
00:48:37I prefer that to chips, no doubt about it.
00:48:41But wings have to be perfect.
00:48:43I only go to like two places for wings.
00:48:45And I'm not going to order them at any place
00:48:46because they come out crappy and I'm pissed off.
00:48:48And then the whole meal is ruined.
00:48:50So I don't do that.
00:48:51Yeah.
00:48:51All right.
00:48:51Let's move on.
00:48:52Let's move off.
00:48:53Let's move back to the game.
00:48:54What's yours?
00:48:54Someday I'll give you mine.
00:48:56No, no, no.
00:48:56I'll do it later.
00:48:57No, now.
00:48:58It'll take too long.
00:49:00It will?
00:49:00It'll take too long.
00:49:02I got to think about it.
00:49:03I got to think.
00:49:04I don't even have the answer.
00:49:06Let's get over to it again.
00:49:07What happened in game four?
00:49:08Do you think it was meant-
00:49:10Which of the two things was the bigger thing?
00:49:13Bobby and Josue, you guys want to join us?
00:49:15Thumbs up.
00:49:15Let's bring them both on.
00:49:17Guys-
00:49:17Buffalo wings are the go, by the way.
00:49:19Just want to get that out there.
00:49:20Great.
00:49:20Buffalo wings are great.
00:49:21Yeah.
00:49:22But you're right.
00:49:22Bad wings will ruin my day.
00:49:24That's a good call.
00:49:25Yeah.
00:49:26Most people-
00:49:26All in.
00:49:27It's like chocolate chip cookies.
00:49:29They're obviously the best cookie out there,
00:49:31but most people screw them up.
00:49:32And that's really annoying too.
00:49:35Anyway, what happened?
00:49:36What's the primary takeaway?
00:49:38Was it lack of readiness?
00:49:40Because now you guys have talked to them.
00:49:42What are they telling you in there?
00:49:44Were they not ready for this thing?
00:49:46Or as Joe put it,
00:49:48they came out.
00:49:48They did their thing.
00:49:49They tried hard.
00:49:50Dallas tried harder.
00:49:51Shots didn't fall.
00:49:51So it is.
00:49:53What was it?
00:49:54Were they not ready to play?
00:49:56That was Derek White's message a few moments ago
00:49:59that they just didn't play hard enough.
00:50:01They lost the 50-50 balls.
00:50:02I think rebounding comes into play there.
00:50:04I don't know how much you guys ended up
00:50:05talking about that aspect after I left.
00:50:08That was a massive, massive area
00:50:10where they lost this game.
00:50:14That's where X-Man became unplayable tonight.
00:50:17I think you definitely saw some
00:50:20offensive flatness from them, I'd say.
00:50:23They definitely settled a lot on that end.
00:50:26Dallas did a much better job taking the pain away.
00:50:28I think when Brown and Tatum went in there early,
00:50:31they were swiping away at the ball pretty effectively,
00:50:34especially against Tatum.
00:50:36Josh Green had a good defensive stint on him
00:50:38where he's really just trying to dislodge the ball there,
00:50:41forces a turnover.
00:50:43You had a couple other efforts, I think, by Derek Jones.
00:50:46Interesting, too.
00:50:47Derek Jones is good.
00:50:48You had a moment there where Derek Jones
00:50:49got in Tatum's face.
00:50:50I think P.J. Washington was the one talking at practice
00:50:53about how there's going to be some altercations, right?
00:50:55They got to come face-to-face with these guys,
00:50:58and they did in that moment.
00:50:59No techs or anything there.
00:51:01Nothing really came out of it.
00:51:02But you saw them try to go to that place, too, here.
00:51:05I know you were in our kid who made a pretty concerted
00:51:09approval of Lucas' defense, which I thought was there
00:51:12in a much better way in this one as well.
00:51:14He definitely deserves credit for his two-way effort
00:51:16in this one.
00:51:17This is exactly the kind of answer he needed
00:51:19to a lot of the criticism he's gotten.
00:51:22Yeah, no question.
00:51:23And I just think that that matters.
00:51:26When your leader is putting forth the right type of effort
00:51:29on the defensive end of the floor,
00:51:30and you're getting guys in transition.
00:51:32And a couple of times where those deflections
00:51:34that kind of knocked Jalen or Tatum off their balance,
00:51:36in a way, I think that just carried over.
00:51:39And the Southerners just didn't respond.
00:51:40They never had that type of tenacity or that aggression.
00:51:44What's going on with Holiday tonight?
00:51:45Holiday was, I barely saw him.
00:51:48Yeah, brutal.
00:51:49Booty.
00:51:50It was brutal.
00:51:51It was bad, man.
00:51:52And I think that's a good point, Bobby,
00:51:54that Dallas taking away the paint really took away
00:51:58what the Southerners were doing before,
00:52:00the passing, the ball rotation, stacking up all those assists
00:52:03that happened in game three.
00:52:05I mean, that's when the Southerners are really clicking
00:52:07and really hard to defend.
00:52:08Dallas was just able to take that away.
00:52:10I think they were looking for the home run play too, guys.
00:52:12Right?
00:52:13After they got down big.
00:52:14Yes, I think so.
00:52:16They had a couple of shots.
00:52:17I think White hit a three at one point.
00:52:19Hauser hit a three.
00:52:20Holiday hit a three.
00:52:21So those little moments, you're like, all right, under 20,
00:52:24under 25, they cut it a little bit.
00:52:26And can you make something out of that?
00:52:28And they never could.
00:52:29They'd always just shoot themselves in the foot,
00:52:31try to do too much, throw the ball away.
00:52:34Give up an offensive rebound.
00:52:35I think at one point in the first half,
00:52:37Dallas had missed four threes that they
00:52:40turned in the second chance points
00:52:42off offensive rebounds there.
00:52:43So you got a lot of breaks.
00:52:45They took that XM3 off the board at one point there,
00:52:47and then he got it right back.
00:52:49I thought that there was a run to be
00:52:51had in this game from Boston that they
00:52:53were never able to muster.
00:52:54And it is weird.
00:52:56Again, the message across the board
00:52:57here was that Dallas just played harder, showed more urgency.
00:53:00White got asked at one point, can you
00:53:02replicate that urgency of a team down three nothing?
00:53:05And he said, you really can't.
00:53:06You try your best to, but you can't.
00:53:09So that's the strange thing about this one
00:53:10is that they just didn't get up for this game.
00:53:13You could have seen them losing this one, certainly.
00:53:16But to not really show up at all is, I wouldn't say concerning
00:53:20because this could just be a one-off,
00:53:22but it definitely opens your eyes a little bit.
00:53:24Like, what was that?
00:53:26That was very strange.
00:53:27I mean, again, if you believe in momentum,
00:53:30I don't really.
00:53:33But if you believe in it, you gave some to Dallas
00:53:36because now they're feeling good about themselves.
00:53:38What can Dallas repeat here?
00:53:38Well, here's the thing is, here's
00:53:41where the momentum comes in.
00:53:42In the first three games, Dallas had to feel really bad,
00:53:47thinking there's nothing we can do.
00:53:49Now it's like, oh, we might be better than these guys.
00:53:54So they might have a different sense of it.
00:53:56But the reality is they're not.
00:53:58And the reality is also the Celtics
00:54:00haven't had a good shooting game yet.
00:54:02Well, you know what blew my mind tonight?
00:54:04You know a 45% three-point game is somewhere lurking out there.
00:54:09And this could be one of them.
00:54:12So again, the Celtics have not unleashed the beast yet.
00:54:15And sure, Dallas is playing them.
00:54:17It's not making it easy for them on offense.
00:54:19It's just the Celtics' defense had been so good.
00:54:23And tonight it was a little bit leaky.
00:54:26Yeah, the defense was carrying them in the series, for sure.
00:54:28That's a good point, John.
00:54:29I mean, it was a little leaky tonight.
00:54:31Yeah, they haven't been themselves
00:54:33in the sense of putting in that one game where you're like,
00:54:36man, they can't miss from three.
00:54:38Or man, they've been super efficient.
00:54:39I mean, Jalen's been that guy.
00:54:42Drew Holiday had a heck of a game back in Boston.
00:54:44But collectively, I thought that the best version that we
00:54:47saw was in game three.
00:54:49And it was triggered by the defense.
00:54:51I think that's what really, really made a difference,
00:54:54especially with the Dallas Mavericks,
00:54:56just unable to just find any rhythm.
00:54:58But in this game, the Celtics never responded the way
00:55:00that they have.
00:55:00You know, Dallas Mavericks, they've
00:55:02had a similar first quarter in the series,
00:55:04but nothing like that.
00:55:05You know, that was their best one in the entire series.
00:55:07And then you look at the way that they were able to help
00:55:09hold the Celtics to, what was it, 14 points in one quarter,
00:55:1217 in the next.
00:55:13I mean, by the way, was it a three-minute mark
00:55:14in that third quarter?
00:55:15Joe Mizzoula said that's it.
00:55:16He started waving the white flag,
00:55:18which is something that he's done before.
00:55:19And he just knew, look, these guys don't have it.
00:55:21I mean, there's no way that they could muster up
00:55:23some kind of comeback.
00:55:24So you might as well just save it up,
00:55:26look for the bounce-back game that they've done historically
00:55:29throughout the entire year, and have an extra day of rest
00:55:31to really get back to the team that they've
00:55:34been this entire postseason, for the most part.
00:55:36I think some of this was bad shooting, certainly.
00:55:39They missed quite a few.
00:55:40There was a five-pass possession at one point,
00:55:42too, where Brown missed in the corner.
00:55:44But three things do concern you here,
00:55:46because they are advantages Dallas potentially
00:55:48had coming into this series.
00:55:50Luka being Luka, that certainly happened tonight.
00:55:52Those Hauser, Pritchard, Horford efforts
00:55:54we talked about coming in, those all disappeared tonight.
00:55:57He just torched all those guys on the ball.
00:55:59But then you look at the rebounding.
00:56:00That was an advantage for Dallas coming into the series,
00:56:02that they haven't flexed yet.
00:56:04That can continue.
00:56:05And then you look at the roll guys.
00:56:08They weren't that bad.
00:56:10They did nothing for three games, absolutely nothing.
00:56:12And now they all collectively did something.
00:56:14So maybe just half those guys do something in game five.
00:56:18That's a lot more than they were already getting here.
00:56:19Again, I'm not trying to drum up that Dallas can get back
00:56:22into the series or win.
00:56:24But you open the door for them to do something.
00:56:27They're actually putting forth a representative effort here now.
00:56:30Yeah, but every game without Chris Epps, Porzingis
00:56:32is closer to a 50-50 than it is with him.
00:56:34And that's the problem.
00:56:35And so the thing is, though, can you
00:56:37string together four of them?
00:56:38And that's the unlikely aspect of a comeback,
00:56:41is it's hard to do that.
00:56:43But every time when you tip it off,
00:56:45it's closer to even than it was when the series began.
00:56:48And that's what scares you a little is, yes,
00:56:50today was losable.
00:56:52And then so was game three.
00:56:53And so is game five.
00:56:54And so then all of a sudden, you start
00:56:56to put yourself in a shit.
00:56:57Well, you don't want to go back to Dallas situation.
00:56:59And on and on it goes.
00:57:01We're going to hear from Jalen.
00:57:02It always happens.
00:57:03Yeah, we're going to hear from Jalen.
00:57:04And look, what happened with the Mavs?
00:57:06They went up 3-0.
00:57:07They lost a game at home with a chance to close out.
00:57:10And they put themselves in a weird situation
00:57:12because two out of the next three
00:57:13would have been in Minnesota.
00:57:14Then they go on the road and they wipe out
00:57:17the Wolves there in five.
00:57:18So again, the momentum doesn't matter
00:57:21as much there.
00:57:22Before we get to Jalen Brown, who's
00:57:24going to talk a little bit, Jimmy Toscano
00:57:25has a message for you guys, especially those of you
00:57:28who might be headed to the garden for an actual game.
00:57:32Tons of people at a watch party wearing these types of things.
00:57:36The Celtics Instagram handle today
00:57:39put it out with a guy with a hard hat.
00:57:44TD Gardens tweeting out the hard hat pic.
00:57:47No, guys, it's pretty cool that our faces are just
00:57:49like plastered on that thing.
00:57:50They are, Joe.
00:57:51The way they've been selling hotcakes, look at that.
00:57:55That's great, man.
00:57:56So a lot of people are saying this is the new unofficial
00:58:00symbol of this playoff run.
00:58:02It's a good way to show your, to rep your team,
00:58:05rep your podcast.
00:58:06When you see this on somebody, you just know.
00:58:08You just give them a nod.
00:58:09You're a Garden Report guy, aren't you?
00:58:11You're a Garden Report guy.
00:58:13You're a Garden Report guy.
00:58:13I can tell.
00:58:14I can just tell by the hard hat on your head.
00:58:16You know the vibes.
00:58:17It's like people with Priuses.
00:58:20Used to like nod at each other.
00:58:21And then like, well, the Jeep wave.
00:58:24Cyclists do that all the time.
00:58:26It's like, you're riding a bike.
00:58:27I'm riding a bike.
00:58:28And you get that little nod.
00:58:29Joggers.
00:58:29The hard hat.
00:58:32People, hey man, keep it up.
00:58:34Everyone's listening in a podcast all over the,
00:58:36but you never know what someone's listening to.
00:58:37But if you had this hard hat on,
00:58:39you know that you're listening to the Garden Report.
00:58:41You're repping the brand.
00:58:42You're repping the Celtics.
00:58:44Now, listen, everyone knows the number one rule
00:58:46about wearing the hard hat.
00:58:47At least my number one rule is,
00:58:48you do not put the hard hat on after a loss.
00:58:51Especially after a loss like this.
00:58:53As much as I want to wear this hat tonight,
00:58:55and as much as-
00:58:55This is the least hard hat game ever.
00:58:57This is, you're right, Bobby.
00:58:58It's the least hard hat game ever.
00:59:00But you don't buy-
00:59:01This was like a, this was like a swim cap game.
00:59:03Yeah.
00:59:05So the hard hat doesn't get worn tonight.
00:59:06As soon as Missoula emptied his bench,
00:59:07she had to take it off.
00:59:08It pains me to say that.
00:59:10But if anyone's interested in buying one,
00:59:12it's not too late.
00:59:12We got to, we just put some more up for sale today.
00:59:16It had sold out.
00:59:17The hard hats are back for sale.
00:59:19The sooner you order them,
00:59:21the sooner you will get them.
00:59:22I don't know how long this series is going to go.
00:59:24Hopefully it doesn't go too long.
00:59:26But if it does go,
00:59:28you might have one of these in time.
00:59:30Certainly, if there's a parade involved,
00:59:32knock on wood.
00:59:33If we get to that point,
00:59:34I'm not trying to jinx anything.
00:59:36This would be a hell of a thing to wear at the parade.
00:59:38I'm not telling people that
00:59:40you're going to get them by a specific date,
00:59:42but they are shipping out pretty regularly.
00:59:45A lot of them have been ordered.
00:59:46I want to thank everybody who's ordered them.
00:59:47This has been a lot of fun.
00:59:49This is like, again,
00:59:50this is kind of like the symbol of this playoff run.
00:59:53Go to the merch store.
00:59:54You got your hard hats here.
00:59:55We've got t-shirts.
00:59:55I got the logo T on right now.
00:59:59There's your face again, Joe Sway.
01:00:00There it is.
01:00:01We got the phenomenal,
01:00:03the phenomenal t-shirts,
01:00:04phenomenal hoodies,
01:00:05phenomenal bucket hats.
01:00:06You can just do a whole phenomenal everything.
01:00:08There you go, Sherrod.
01:00:09Sherrod's repping the phenomenal.
01:00:11So there's a lot of good stuff over there,
01:00:13but the hard hats are going fast.
01:00:15And I'm not just saying that.
01:00:16They've sold out multiple times already.
01:00:18We can't make them quicker than we can ship them.
01:00:22These are made in-
01:00:23Damn, Sherrod.
01:00:24Did you pack all that shit?
01:00:25These are made in-
01:00:27I was ready for there to be a lot of champagne popping.
01:00:30So you've got to think,
01:00:31how am I going to cover the suit?
01:00:32They're made in-house.
01:00:33They're artisan hard hats.
01:00:35Yeah.
01:00:36Yeah, they are.
01:00:36Yeah, they're organic.
01:00:41These are actually grass-fed hard hats too.
01:00:43Artisan hard hats.
01:00:44Yeah, exactly.
01:00:45No hormones, no antibiotics.
01:00:49Somebody on Twitter asked me if I would do a helmet shoey
01:00:52if they won tonight,
01:00:53meaning would I chug a beer out of the helmet?
01:00:56I didn't respond either way.
01:00:58I was going to just decide in the moment
01:01:00and I don't have to do it tonight, but-
01:01:02That's a good answer, Jimmy.
01:01:04This could actually double.
01:01:05If you were looking to like Das Boot situation,
01:01:09Das hard hat, this might actually get the job done too.
01:01:13Yeah, all right.
01:01:14So check it out for real.
01:01:16They are actually selling out.
01:01:19They are.
01:01:21It's not a joke.
01:01:22We're almost shocked and I'll show you again.
01:01:25Look at this.
01:01:26Oh no, we got that one.
01:01:27I want the ones that Celtics put out, guys.
01:01:30Look at this.
01:01:31It's coming right now.
01:01:31It's coming right now.
01:01:32It's the TD Garden.
01:01:33TD Garden put this out.
01:01:35Yeah, look at that guy.
01:01:36I think it might be the same guy.
01:01:38He's just like, he puts the hard hat on.
01:01:41He's probably a nice guy,
01:01:42but once the hard hat goes on,
01:01:44the inner beast kind of comes out.
01:01:46This was the TD Garden thing.
01:01:47They picked the guy with the hard hat
01:01:49because he's the frigging baddest looking dude out there.
01:01:52That's it.
01:01:53That is epic.
01:01:54That is epic.
01:01:55That was a nice, that guy used to be a nice guy.
01:01:57He put the hard hat on completely.
01:01:58He's an animal now.
01:02:00He's a monster now.
01:02:01It's like when you grow a beard, like your wife is like,
01:02:03I don't even know who you are anymore.
01:02:05You know, like that guy is different.
01:02:07He's like, sweetie, it's the finals.
01:02:09Yeah.
01:02:09Get away from me, the hard hat, yo.
01:02:11The hard hat stays.
01:02:12You've changed.
01:02:14Something's different about you.
01:02:18Honey, you're so different since you put the hard hat on.
01:02:20I'm only putting it on just for show.
01:02:22I would never wear this after a performance tonight,
01:02:24but just because they lost tonight doesn't mean
01:02:25you can't prepare for the future.
01:02:27All right.
01:02:27So let's, let's, let's hear a little bit from Jalen Brown.
01:02:30These guys need hard hats next game.
01:02:31Here's Jalen talking about what he's hoping is going to be
01:02:34a hard hat performance in game five.
01:02:36Situation for the first time of on the verge of winter championship.
01:02:40How'd you feel like all those lessons you've learned?
01:02:42Kind of felt in that moment.
01:02:44He says hard hat.
01:02:46It's a great opportunity to, to respond.
01:02:48Give credit to Dallas.
01:02:49They came out and they, they, they play with force and they play great.
01:02:54So we just, we regroup.
01:02:56We keep our same mentality and we come out and get ready to,
01:03:00to fight in another battle on our home floor.
01:03:03We learn from it.
01:03:04We take it.
01:03:04We don't dismiss it.
01:03:05We're going to learn from it.
01:03:06We're going to see how and why.
01:03:09Exactly where, you know, the game was won and lost.
01:03:12And then we, we, we take those experiences and then we, we come out
01:03:17and we play like our life depends on it.
01:03:19Cause it does.
01:03:20What's the most important lesson you learned from tonight's game?
01:03:24I'm not sure as of yet.
01:03:26But we're going to watch it.
01:03:27We're going to learn from it.
01:03:29As of now, we just got to be better.
01:03:31Got to meet their intensity.
01:03:32It's the NBA playoffs.
01:03:33It's the NBA final.
01:03:34So I'm looking forward to the next one.
01:03:37Thank you, John.
01:03:40So I do want to ask, I do want to ask you guys, like,
01:03:44they were trying to do some of the things that they normally do.
01:03:46It just looked like they weren't able to get where they wanted to go.
01:03:49They were having a tougher time funneling.
01:03:52I put this one up already.
01:03:53I put it up already.
01:03:54Yes, I did.
01:03:55I missed it.
01:03:55What's up, Isabel?
01:03:56What's up?
01:03:57Hey, yo, hey, Isabel.
01:03:59Hey, I got plenty more hard hats where that came from.
01:04:02Um, what I, we're going to have to look at it.
01:04:05And I am looking forward to rewatching this and seeing kind of like what Dallas did differently,
01:04:09but it did feel like they were kind of, I don't know if they were, you know,
01:04:14you know, sending the, um, I put this one up too.
01:04:17All right.
01:04:17Just you talk.
01:04:18Just talk.
01:04:20I noticed more aggression.
01:04:21More aggression.
01:04:22Was it just better point of attack defense or were they funneling the Celtics into different
01:04:26places where they weren't able to get it?
01:04:28I know they were, they were clearly jumping some passing lanes on the obvious kickout
01:04:33there because the Celtics, I mean, it's predictable because it's worked, but when you're not beating
01:04:37your guy clean off the dribble, you're not sucking in the defense and that outlet pass
01:04:41to the corner or wherever you want to get it on a drive and kick isn't there as well.
01:04:45So maybe it was just simply that they were more competitive at the point of attack.
01:04:48Fewer blow buys and made it a little bit, you know, tougher for the Celtics to get.
01:04:53It didn't feel like the Mavs were nearly, were in rotation nearly as much as they have been
01:04:57in the first three games of the series.
01:04:59Celtics weren't as patient as they normally were.
01:05:01I thought that they really didn't allow the offense to kind of come to them and just keep
01:05:06probing for the best shot as opposed to taking pretty good shots that were contested.
01:05:12And they never really quite got into any kind of flow rhythm where they were just running
01:05:16their office and getting great shots and give Dallas credit.
01:05:18They did a good job, I thought defensively, but I thought part of that good job was because
01:05:23the Celtics didn't execute or exude the kind of patience that we saw in games one, two and three.
01:05:29Yeah, definitely.
01:05:31That's something that Jalen talked about in the first half of game three.
01:05:34And I thought that that version like carried over the entire game
01:05:38instead of the Celtics coming out at halftime and switching things up.
01:05:42But then again, the deficit was so, was so large that I don't even think the
01:05:46Celtics were able to find their offense because when Dallas came back out here
01:05:49for that second half, they kept pouring it on.
01:05:52So yeah, I thought that it was a lot of that as well.
01:05:54Just settling for whatever the defense was giving them
01:05:57instead of trying to move the ball around, you know,
01:05:59Dallas is trying to make these guys work harder.
01:06:00I feel like the Celtics just didn't meet that challenge on the offensive end.
01:06:03They try to kind of find shortcuts instead of just, you know,
01:06:08really fighting for each possession and making sure that they get better looks.
01:06:11There were some moments early too, I feel like they let Dallas off the hook.
01:06:14We talked about coming into the game, how they never let any teams,
01:06:18any teams weak defenders off the hook and Tatum, especially,
01:06:20I think take some of the blame for that.
01:06:22Pull up threes, just that weren't it tonight.
01:06:25They haven't been it for much of this postseason.
01:06:28And I think you let Luke off the hook at one point.
01:06:30He pulled up for one over Cleaver, which didn't make much sense to me.
01:06:34So those shots selection early, I think an issue ball control in the post,
01:06:39making quick decisions, rim reads out of their big issue.
01:06:42I thought they missed a lot of layups here.
01:06:43So a lot of it does fall on the Celtics.
01:06:45Dallas definitely ramped up the intensity here,
01:06:48but the Celtics didn't execute well offensively.
01:06:51I thought here and, you know,
01:06:52Sean Grandy was pointing this out throughout the game,
01:06:54and it really is amazing to me.
01:06:56Maybe it shouldn't be because of how big of a blowout this was,
01:06:59but the Mavs have more points in this series after tonight.
01:07:01It's 408, 402.
01:07:03So they flipped that total score.
01:07:05The series tonight was one effort, which is pretty amazing.
01:07:08It shows how close this series is so far.
01:07:11It legit means nothing.
01:07:12And it's not close.
01:07:13It legit means nothing.
01:07:19It doesn't mean anything.
01:07:20And again, the aggregate points means nothing.
01:07:28Dallas potentially winning more games is possible.
01:07:32Them winning the aggregate points doesn't matter at all.
01:07:35You know, at all.
01:07:36It really doesn't.
01:07:36The Celtics have controlled the majority of most of these games,
01:07:41you know, with the exception of that 22.
01:07:42It's not like the all-star game rule.
01:07:44Run in game three.
01:07:44So I'm not super worried about that.
01:07:46But people will use that to say like,
01:07:48they're not even winning the aggregate.
01:07:50This team's not that good.
01:07:52I know that's going to get said, but whatever.
01:07:55I've never even heard that before.
01:07:57Well, Grandy said it.
01:07:58And now Bobby said it.
01:07:59Now it's becoming a thing.
01:08:01Here we go.
01:08:02The Celtics had like one, before this game, they had just like that.
01:08:05They had one bad quarter though.
01:08:07Like pretty much if it being, if you look back at all the games,
01:08:10they had one bad quarter.
01:08:12And then tonight they had like three.
01:08:14Yeah, they were bad.
01:08:15Anyway, who else was bad?
01:08:17I don't know.
01:08:18We always argue about whether,
01:08:20the strangest conversation we have on the Garden Report
01:08:23is when Jason Tatum doesn't play well,
01:08:25arguing about whether or not he played well.
01:08:28It is really odd.
01:08:29But we will have that conversation a little.
01:08:31But first we're going to hear from Jason Tatum
01:08:33at the podium after the game,
01:08:35being fairly positive about, you know, what's to come.
01:08:39Next time you're out there,
01:08:41you got to play like your life depends on it.
01:08:42Because it does.
01:08:43You recently said in an interview,
01:08:44if you got back to this point,
01:08:46you would do whatever you needed to take to win.
01:08:48After a loss like this,
01:08:49I'm curious what your process is moving on.
01:08:52That's Simone.
01:08:53Yeah, just not to harp on it too much.
01:08:58Like it happened.
01:09:00We can't change what happened tonight.
01:09:04You know, we always say you lose by two or you lose by 30.
01:09:07They all count the same.
01:09:10But we do better.
01:09:13We're not making any excuses.
01:09:14We need to be better.
01:09:17And we will.
01:09:18We will be better.
01:09:19On the game on Monday, game five,
01:09:20what do you expect the garden to be like?
01:09:23What would it mean to you to clinch
01:09:25on your home floor that night?
01:09:28I think it's going to be as loud as it's ever been
01:09:30in my seven years of being a Celtic.
01:09:35Excited to go back home,
01:09:38celebrate Father's Day on Sunday
01:09:40and compete for a championship on Monday.
01:09:44So it should be a lot of fun.
01:09:47That's great.
01:09:47You know who doesn't get to celebrate Father's Day?
01:09:51Who?
01:09:52All of us who have to go friggin' cover these guys.
01:09:54John's so mad because he's like,
01:09:56man, I had this whole weekend, you know.
01:09:57All of these guys who have to go cover practice on Sunday,
01:10:02which is us.
01:10:04And then go to the garden
01:10:06and for game five on my daughter's birthday.
01:10:09My daughter was born on Father's Day, by the way.
01:10:11My eldest daughter, which is really cool.
01:10:13But yeah, no, it's cool.
01:10:14I'm glad you guys decided not to play tonight.
01:10:17Not mad.
01:10:18Ruined everyone's weekend.
01:10:19Not mad.
01:10:20I had to celebrate with my brother and my dad.
01:10:24I'm not mad.
01:10:26Yeah.
01:10:29It's just your day, but you know, you're not mad, right?
01:10:31Oh, whatever.
01:10:31It doesn't matter.
01:10:32Anyway, was Tatum good or was Tatum bad, Bobby?
01:10:35Your kids weren't planning anything for you.
01:10:37Jimmy, I'll start with you.
01:10:38Well, Bobby, Tatum good, Tatum bad?
01:10:41No, he was terrible.
01:10:42And he was a big part of the rim reads here.
01:10:49He was the one losing the ball.
01:10:51He was in control of the ball and the paint a lot of the time here.
01:10:54Taking the bad shots.
01:10:56Again, I made a case for him as finals MVP as the tone setter.
01:11:01And him as the tone setter tonight didn't come through.
01:11:04So that's out the window now with a performance like this.
01:11:07It's not going to happen.
01:11:09He needed to be the closer in this game here.
01:11:12The opportunity opened itself in game three.
01:11:14And tonight he just wasn't decisive enough.
01:11:17Got stuck under the rim.
01:11:19Lost control of the ball a lot of times.
01:11:20What was that possession where he just got stuck and just tossed a grenade to Hauser?
01:11:25Hauser had to dive on the floor and risk injuring himself.
01:11:29I don't know.
01:11:30To get the ball back.
01:11:32I was getting cake at the time.
01:11:34Yeah.
01:11:35Is that when you went to get your slice of cake?
01:11:38Yeah.
01:11:40John has spent more time with chocolate cake than he's spent watching the game.
01:11:44I watched it.
01:11:46I'm just so annoyed.
01:11:47Well, after Joseph-
01:11:48You know what's the worst part?
01:11:49Blame me.
01:11:50I would have been right there with you.
01:11:51Sorry, Joseph.
01:11:51We're just watching it in a road arena too.
01:11:54Because we're in the stands and listening to all these assholes be happy.
01:11:59And knowing that there's no way out.
01:12:02It's really hard to endure.
01:12:03So I just like I'm taking a walk.
01:12:05And I was-
01:12:06Was Cubes dancing around?
01:12:07Cubes?
01:12:08I didn't see Cubes.
01:12:10Josue, sorry, what were you going to say?
01:12:12I haven't seen them all this entire series.
01:12:14No, I was just going to say, yeah, Tatum wasn't good.
01:12:18He wasn't good at all in the sense of just having control of his offense.
01:12:24I just think the Dallas Mavericks really disrupted him.
01:12:26Those swipes.
01:12:27He would turn around.
01:12:28There was a wall there.
01:12:29He tried to make these passes that were off the mark.
01:12:32Some of them were in traffic as well.
01:12:34And Jalen did a couple of those too, where it's just like,
01:12:37why did you think that that was going to go through?
01:12:39You know what I mean?
01:12:40There was very head-scratching passes.
01:12:42Lazy passes, if you will.
01:12:43I just feel like his approach was as if it was all going to start clicking at one point.
01:12:49But the Dallas Mavericks, man, you have to credit them.
01:12:51The way they defended.
01:12:52They've been doing this all series.
01:12:54But I think what really disrupted him this time around was that he was unable to kind
01:12:58of find those leaked passes.
01:13:00Those, uh, whether it was like those slick behind the backs or find someone in the corner,
01:13:04they sealed off all of that.
01:13:06And I think that really made him hard.
01:13:07I really made it hard for Tatum to be a playmaker.
01:13:10And don't you think they're celebrating John when he pulls up from deep with a mismatch on him?
01:13:15Oh, that's what they want.
01:13:16And at one point, he draws a switch on Luca and pulls up for three.
01:13:20That's ridiculous.
01:13:22And he tried it on.
01:13:23They tried on Gafford and got blocked.
01:13:26I'll get it on lively or on game three.
01:13:28That's not what you want there.
01:13:30I get those guys in space.
01:13:31You got to get by.
01:13:33Exactly.
01:13:34Exactly.
01:13:34I hate when he does that because I feel like he thinks that like that, like it's going to like
01:13:37destroy the defender.
01:13:39You know what I mean?
01:13:39Like it's going to like, oh no, now we're going to lose the game.
01:13:42And I really do think it.
01:13:44I think he thinks that not only does it get him going, that it's going to like discourage
01:13:48the Mavericks, but that stuff's not going to work when you're down by 20.
01:13:52You know what I mean?
01:13:53Like that's when you do you do stuff like that when it's a close game.
01:13:55I would like to believe that, but I actually, I'd like to believe that.
01:13:59But I actually think he's just not getting by that.
01:14:03So he's peddling.
01:14:04Yeah.
01:14:05When he, he makes one move, two moves and he hasn't, he hasn't gotten a step.
01:14:10Then he's, then you can see he sets up the pull, the, the step back, the rest of the
01:14:14possession.
01:14:16He'll first try a little shake and bake and he'll try to get going when he doesn't have
01:14:20that.
01:14:20He pulls it back and he's setting up the step back.
01:14:22So it's more failure.
01:14:24Like I can't get by this guy, which is a, which is a shame.
01:14:28And the driving kick is getting predictable here too.
01:14:30I do think they're all over that.
01:14:32They're all over it.
01:14:33They were jumping the lanes.
01:14:34And at certain times is you got to try to take the frigging layup, you know, or the
01:14:39floater or the floater, the four footer, like look at what Drew was killing them with that.
01:14:44You know, it was just missing around the rim for sure.
01:14:47Well, I mean like before tonight, like that's, that's been killing them.
01:14:50Couldn't couldn't do it tonight.
01:14:52They didn't get any of that tonight.
01:14:53So it was, it was weird.
01:14:55It was weird.
01:14:55There's somebody, it might be the same guy in the chat who keeps saying this.
01:14:59I don't know that that's the case.
01:15:00He's exactly the right size.
01:15:02Someone, his frame should be.
01:15:03He is not too big.
01:15:04This is what happens to men.
01:15:06They just get bigger.
01:15:07He's not monstrously big.
01:15:09He's still a lean dude.
01:15:10Who's put on.
01:15:11I feel like that's the biggest misnomer about it.
01:15:13It's such a silly thing to say.
01:15:15He's still extremely lean and agile that he did not get too bulky.
01:15:20It's not like he showed up.
01:15:21He's a bodybuilder.
01:15:24Can't move.
01:15:25Like, it's like totally normal for a 26 year old guy to, to look like that.
01:15:30He's not going through his job.
01:15:33Paul, Paul, Paul was, he had that.
01:15:34He had it.
01:15:35He had a point in his career where he needed to do that.
01:15:37And we saw the difference, especially look at every NBA player, their rookie year.
01:15:42And then year six, they become men.
01:15:44They just get bigger.
01:15:46It's everybody.
01:15:47It's such a beard.
01:15:49He didn't get too big and ruin his jump shot.
01:15:51It's so mean.
01:15:52You haven't worked out without telling me you haven't worked out.
01:15:55Yo, for real.
01:15:57We talk about it all the time.
01:16:00How to use his body.
01:16:01He's too strong.
01:16:02Why would he do that?
01:16:05He's a good shooter, but the three point shot was a criticism or a concern for him coming
01:16:12into the league.
01:16:13So I guess it's not a massive surprise that he's had some of these ups and downs and he
01:16:18takes difficult shots.
01:16:19We talk about it all the time.
01:16:20And some of it I know for a fact is because they want the defense to be when he's pulling
01:16:27up from three up there and chasing him out and allowing other guys to break free.
01:16:31But when you're making bad reads at the rim, when you turn the ball over, when you're doing
01:16:35all of those three things, taking a few too many questionable shots, because you can't
01:16:39get away with it, John, when you're doing everything else, right?
01:16:42Like when they win and he plays well, you don't sit there and say, oh, he took three
01:16:46stupid shots from three.
01:16:48It's just part of the arsenal.
01:16:49It's part of how he has to keep them honest in different ways.
01:16:53But it does look worse in a game like this where he's not doing everything else right
01:16:56too.
01:16:56And it seems like he is a little passive.
01:16:58So, you know, I'm putting this one on him.
01:17:00He had a clunker.
01:17:02If he can bounce back, it won't matter.
01:17:04Your top two players were no-shows.
01:17:06They were terrible.
01:17:07Bad decision making, bad rim reads, not effective.
01:17:10Not, you know, not shooting it well.
01:17:12Just bad, just bad.
01:17:13Turning it over bad.
01:17:15I think when Horford have one shot in this one, I think that's emblematic of anything.
01:17:21A single shot.
01:17:22Yeah.
01:17:22Oh, yeah.
01:17:23One.
01:17:23Okay.
01:17:23Yeah.
01:17:23But he was didn't have one.
01:17:27When your offense is functioning, right?
01:17:30He should have more shots than one because he usually has at least three or four of those
01:17:33corner threes wide open that he's able to release.
01:17:36Yeah, that's a good point.
01:17:37But no, I was going to say, I just feel like the Dallas Mavericks with everything that
01:17:41went down after game three and, you know, going into that practice, they went back to
01:17:46the basics.
01:17:47They went back to just looking at film and just rebounding effort, you know, spacing,
01:17:52all that stuff.
01:17:52You can see a big difference in their approach, especially on the defensive end of the floor.
01:17:57And that's what Jason Kidd, I think, had a lot to do with that, you know, in a sense
01:18:00of getting Luca to really commit on that end.
01:18:02He started off by putting those quotes out there, you know, sort of calling him out after
01:18:06game three saying he has to figure this thing out.
01:18:08And I think he worked with them, you know, obviously in the film session and with the
01:18:12starting five and with guys coming off the bench, you know, he played 11 guys in that
01:18:16game.
01:18:17I think they all sort of thought to themselves, well, we all can, if we all can just chip
01:18:21in a little bit, all of a sudden we do something other than nothing.
01:18:24Oh, exactly.
01:18:25All of a sudden we'll have a bench and that's exactly what it looked like.
01:18:29But does that mean that they're deeper than the Celtics?
01:18:31No.
01:18:32Does that mean that they're a better team?
01:18:33Absolutely not.
01:18:34But the Celtics have to respond in a big way like they have historically going back to
01:18:37Boston, another closeout game.
01:18:39I mean, look, this is the first time Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown have ever had a chance
01:18:43to literally win a championship.
01:18:45There were two games away in 2022 and that was the line over and over again.
01:18:50This is the first time they actually went into a closeout game and didn't look great,
01:18:55obviously, but they have to bounce back.
01:18:56And I think that that's an experience that that's going to play a big part in the way
01:19:00they do that in game four, game five.
01:19:02We know Tatum's going to bounce back.
01:19:04We know Brown's going to bounce back.
01:19:05Those he guys.
01:19:08You don't think period ever?
01:19:09We don't know that, you know, that's the thing.
01:19:13You don't know it.
01:19:15But at some point they're not going to.
01:19:19Look, man, Tatum's been kind of not elite offensively for good stretches of these playoffs
01:19:28right now.
01:19:30He's definitely struggling.
01:19:32You know, and again, the numbers will look good and gaudy at the end, but he's not he's
01:19:36not had.
01:19:37I'm not talking about Monday, John.
01:19:38I'm talking about by the end of the series.
01:19:40We don't know.
01:19:41You're hoping so.
01:19:42They don't.
01:19:43They're going to lose.
01:19:44No, they're not because they have superior talent everywhere else.
01:19:47And again, you can't say this without sounding like it's an insult to Tatum and Brown, but
01:19:51it's like they're not winning in spite of those guys.
01:19:54They're winning because they have everything else.
01:19:56And it's really relentless and difficult when they're all playing, you know, at or
01:20:02close to their capabilities.
01:20:03There's really no respite for the other team.
01:20:05They just keep coming at you because they're great two way players.
01:20:08They can all shoot the ball.
01:20:09And when things are going well, it can really just absolutely swamp another team here where
01:20:13you don't need one guy to just turn it all around.
01:20:16But yeah, you're always worried that like, OK, crap, we're getting another offensive
01:20:20clunker here.
01:20:20Anytime your best player or leading scorer is struggling to get looks or to get, you
01:20:26know, or to or to shoot or to score, that puts a greater burden on everybody else there.
01:20:31And then there's a bit of a trickle down and you don't want to see it when your top
01:20:34two guys both lay an egg like Brown and Tatum did tonight.
01:20:37That's and then Hall and a holiday.
01:20:38White was a complete that everybody collapsed.
01:20:41Everybody collapsed tonight.
01:20:43I was going to because Josue mentioned this game doesn't signify that Dallas is deeper.
01:20:48And I'm pretty confident Brown and Tatum are going to bounce back at some point.
01:20:52I guess it's not a lot.
01:20:52The team bounces back.
01:20:54I'm not sure Tatum is going to come out and have an awesome game next game.
01:20:57I don't know that it matters.
01:20:58You know, well, I'm looking at the bench here because they did take a hit tonight.
01:21:02You know, the Tillman thing stopped working.
01:21:04Hauser got hit hard for the first time in this series.
01:21:07He was surviving out there to this point.
01:21:09He was contributing.
01:21:10We got a lot of praise from pregame, but this might have knocked him back a little bit.
01:21:15And then Pritchard, you know, you didn't get much from him here either.
01:21:18And it's just about immediately once he got stuck down the pain.
01:21:21Yeah, to just see the wave flow in the other direction toward those roll guys
01:21:27is obviously something to watch.
01:21:28And sometimes that sways at home.
01:21:30I feel like that hasn't been the story of the series to this point.
01:21:35But that is something to watch here is that Dallas's roll guys all woke up.
01:21:39Boston's all came back to earth in a big way here.
01:21:43And then you add the fact that you probably know you're not going to have
01:21:46Porzingis at this point for the rest of the series.
01:21:48So that frontcourt question is going to linger from this point on,
01:21:51how you try to piece those minutes together.
01:21:53Fortunately for Horford, you have the two day rest here
01:21:55because you're going to need a lot of them in game five.
01:21:57But that was the one thing I mentioned before you got on, Bobby,
01:22:01is I didn't say this in the pregame because we were just like gushing positivity.
01:22:06But like that was the one thing I was slightly worried about is Horford
01:22:09playing large minutes.
01:22:10It's the first time in this finals where it hasn't been two off days
01:22:14and what that would be like here.
01:22:16And, you know, it was particularly tough.
01:22:19What?
01:22:21What was that squeaky?
01:22:23I don't know, man.
01:22:25It was.
01:22:25It was particularly tough when the Tillman experiment failed tonight as well.
01:22:29That put a lot of that put a lot of extra burden on Al to play those.
01:22:33Can I say?
01:22:34Can I say his name?
01:22:37Do you give Luke a look?
01:22:39No.
01:22:40It's still John.
01:22:41Immediately goes Kata.
01:22:44It's so obvious that this isn't.
01:22:46Yeah, that's exactly what you did.
01:22:49I'm going to say no.
01:22:50I'm just asking.
01:22:51Look what you did.
01:22:52Yeah, we'll just we'll say no for you.
01:22:55We'll see.
01:22:55Yeah, I think you go back to Tillman.
01:22:58Yeah, he's the only guy who can switch.
01:23:00The other thing that happened that didn't happen that isn't necessarily a thing,
01:23:05but it might be a thing is that Porzingis was available, but Joe made it very clear prior to
01:23:13the game that he'd be used in limited or special circumstances.
01:23:17And again, I think what Bobby's on the scent.
01:23:20Bobby Bobby's tracking this one down.
01:23:22Did you find Bobby?
01:23:23Did Bobby was everybody super mad or did anybody talk about it?
01:23:29No, but you know, I don't get it.
01:23:35I get it, but I don't think he's playing.
01:23:37And I anybody out there hoping like, well, he almost played in four.
01:23:42So maybe he'll play in five.
01:23:43I don't think I he's this is not the type of injury where he's going to get better
01:23:49in a day or two.
01:23:50If he couldn't play today, he can't play in game five or six or seven.
01:23:54You're winning this title without Porzingis.
01:23:55Why is he active?
01:23:57Because, Bobby, we keep saying this.
01:24:00If they sweat, it doesn't matter.
01:24:02You can put him on the bench in uniform, trot him out there for a minute if they were winning
01:24:07the championship so he can feel a part of it.
01:24:10There's no downside to it.
01:24:12He can wear three clothes on the bench or a uniform on the bench.
01:24:15It doesn't matter.
01:24:17He's active just because, but he's not there to play.
01:24:20What's he done?
01:24:20Has Haslam ever been active for?
01:24:22You know, like, like, he's just there in uniform.
01:24:27Sorry, buddy.
01:24:28But like, maybe I just don't understand the significance of that moment coming in at the
01:24:33end, playing in a championship, clinching scenario and having the crowd cheer.
01:24:38He would walk out there in a non injure yourself sort of way with no expectations.
01:24:43I feel like Bobby's trolling.
01:24:46Bobby.
01:24:46No, I just don't understand it.
01:24:49What don't you understand?
01:24:51It's sentimental, Bobby.
01:24:53It's like, it's like if we're here, you know, it's like if, you know.
01:25:00We you lost your voice and we tried you out here on the show just to like wave to the
01:25:04crowd.
01:25:05Why is Bobby?
01:25:06Would I be on the show if I lost my voice?
01:25:08Would I just if they won the championship?
01:25:11It would bring you on, Bobby.
01:25:12Yeah, I would bring you I would would, you know, probably crack a few jokes and then
01:25:16we'd send you on your way.
01:25:17I couldn't crack a few jokes.
01:25:19I might be at your expense.
01:25:21Well, we'll we'll we'll we'll do it for you.
01:25:24He's trolling.
01:25:26I guess when you put it that way, it makes a little more sense.
01:25:31We've been trying to say that for a while.
01:25:34All right, well, let's just leave it at this, because we were speculating and trying to
01:25:37figure out what was going on pregame.
01:25:39No, no, everybody was in the same boat.
01:25:41But you said that you could try him.
01:25:44No, I said I said either they're going to try him for a short stint or he's a human.
01:25:49Yeah, we were trying to figure out what was going on.
01:25:51But now we know he's not coming back.
01:25:54If we boiled it down to two possibilities, it was obviously the second one.
01:25:59So now we know he's not going to play the rest of the playing.
01:26:03I think this this is clear indication.
01:26:05This is the main point of this.
01:26:07He was never intended to actually play.
01:26:09I can't believe he's ever going to play.
01:26:11There's an off chance that he is the if you get to a six or seven and you're like, oh,
01:26:19that you might try it and hope for the best in a like, let's throw it all out there because
01:26:24it's desperation.
01:26:25It's the last game of the season.
01:26:26That might be the only place I see it.
01:26:28Otherwise, I don't think he's playing.
01:26:31All right, well, now we know.
01:26:33Yeah, I think the Southerners are worried about long term damage.
01:26:36You know, I just think that also going into this game, you're up three.
01:26:38Oh, it's like have him on the bench.
01:26:41If there's a, you know, celebration is about to take place, you can go out there for a
01:26:45little bit, you know, something like that.
01:26:46But I just yeah, clearly, you know, for him to go through his pregame routine and all
01:26:50that and still not even see the floor when the Celtics were in desperation mode, just
01:26:54trying to find anything in that offense and you don't see him.
01:26:58That's not a good sign.
01:26:59There's another possibility.
01:27:00There's also a bad sign.
01:27:02There's also there's again, another possibility would be, though, we're up three.
01:27:06Oh, and I'll see if I feel like playing him or not, but I'm probably not going to.
01:27:12And they looked at this game and they didn't like the way it was going.
01:27:15And he thought, hey, the minute or two, I thought I might try him in different places.
01:27:19I don't see the point in it here in this.
01:27:21Did Joe get asked about it?
01:27:23Bobby, how is it different than Blake?
01:27:25I want the kid in Luca.
01:27:26How is it different than throwing Blake Griffin out there?
01:27:28It's the same shit.
01:27:30No, it's not.
01:27:31Yeah, it is.
01:27:32Blake Griffin wasn't helping you by the end.
01:27:33They still would have trotted him out there, maybe, you know, a victory lap.
01:27:40I don't get it.
01:27:42I'm not even going to go down that comparison.
01:27:44The only thing I don't get is what you don't get.
01:27:46It could be a couple of different things, but I don't think it's a major thing.
01:27:51I think it leans towards the likelihood of him actually playing is small, but there's
01:27:55still a chance they do the same thing in game five and maybe do maybe do try him out a minute
01:28:00or two because they think he might be able to contribute.
01:28:03It's really hard to tell at this point, but it's a nothing to lose scenario.
01:28:09At worst, it was, let's trot him out there if we win it, or it's possible that if I feel
01:28:13like I think I can get him into this game in a situation that would be advantageous,
01:28:17I'll try it.
01:28:18It's one of those two who knows what happens in game five.
01:28:20Let me ask you this, Bobby.
01:28:22Picture this, okay?
01:28:25Celtics are up pretty significantly in the fourth quarter, Monday night.
01:28:31Porzingis is active.
01:28:33You don't get like the moment of maybe them subbing him into the game for like the last
01:28:38minute or whatever.
01:28:39That makes no sense.
01:28:41You can't figure out why that would be like a cool moment and something that maybe he
01:28:45deserves.
01:28:46It'd be a cool moment, but we'd still kind of stink.
01:28:48He couldn't play the last couple of games.
01:28:50But is it better?
01:28:51Is it better than him not just going in at all?
01:28:53That's that's two different arguments, right?
01:28:55But he's not been a huge part of what the scene's been doing all year long.
01:28:58Clearly, he didn't play much of these playoff games, but he's a huge part of what they...
01:29:03He's a big reason why they're here.
01:29:04So it's like a hat.
01:29:05It's like a hat tip to what he did before.
01:29:07Absolutely.
01:29:07He's a veteran.
01:29:08He's a pillar.
01:29:14It's exactly that.
01:29:15It's a hard hat tip.
01:29:18It's a hard hat tip.
01:29:18Equals.
01:29:20Yes.
01:29:21We're getting there.
01:29:22Picture the moment, Bobby.
01:29:23Who's the common variable here?
01:29:24I don't want to...
01:29:25Sub a guy out.
01:29:27Sub a guy in.
01:29:28Both guys get a standing O.
01:29:32I wonder what this comment section looks like.
01:29:33This is the best conversation in the history of the Garden Report.
01:29:38Let me just leave it at this.
01:29:39I don't want to diminish the moment, but he's not actually playing.
01:29:42He'd just be holding the ball as the clock ran out.
01:29:46He doesn't even need to touch the ball.
01:29:47Why is this even a thought?
01:29:48It's just on the court.
01:29:52That's why he was active.
01:29:53Is this...
01:29:54I don't even want to go there.
01:29:55I'm going to go too far.
01:29:57Sorry.
01:29:58Where could you possibly go?
01:29:59Let him have his moment.
01:30:00It's only so far.
01:30:02You can go.
01:30:02Yeah, wait.
01:30:03Where would we go with it?
01:30:04Like, it's literally this.
01:30:06It's not a real moment.
01:30:09It is a real, actual moment.
01:30:12It's actually the opposite.
01:30:13Running out the clock.
01:30:15It's actually creating the moment.
01:30:17You've created the moment.
01:30:19By not doing it, it's not a real moment.
01:30:21I think he's really gone this time, man.
01:30:23See, I don't want to do that.
01:30:24I'm looking at Sherrod.
01:30:25Sherrod looks like a disappointed father right now.
01:30:28Like, he's just exasperated.
01:30:31I know that.
01:30:31He's holding his...
01:30:32He's rubbing his temple.
01:30:34Like, I just don't know what I'm going to do with this boy.
01:30:38I am sad that he can't win.
01:30:41We're sad.
01:30:42This is making me sad.
01:30:44Yeah, this is a sad end to the show, I think.
01:30:47This is somber.
01:30:48This is becoming...
01:30:49I'm about to go somber, but we've got to get this point across.
01:30:54This stinks.
01:30:56I mean, he was so great.
01:30:57He was a huge part.
01:30:59That's a separate conversation.
01:31:01It does stink that he's not playing.
01:31:03John, the balloons are falling right behind me right now.
01:31:07This is still a series.
01:31:08What are we talking about?
01:31:10And he's out for the series.
01:31:12We know that, Bobby.
01:31:14So why do we care about his minute at the end of the game?
01:31:17Nobody cares.
01:31:18We don't really care.
01:31:19We're just trying to make you aware of why it would possibly...
01:31:22I get what you're saying, but I don't get why it's important.
01:31:27Who's saying it's important?
01:31:30It's just the thing.
01:31:31Because he's active, he's not playing.
01:31:32It's the explanation as to why he was active.
01:31:37Bobby, who's number 44 on the team?
01:31:39I forget.
01:31:41He played tonight.
01:31:42Is it important that he's active?
01:31:48I guess.
01:31:49He can play.
01:31:49He doesn't play a part to why they're here in the finals.
01:31:52Chris Stapps has a much bigger role.
01:31:54I'm not trying to be it, but I'm just trying to say that's what they're getting at.
01:32:01I guess I'm just caught up in the fact that if he can't play at all the rest of the series,
01:32:06and that's very clear, why are we doing this whole thing of...
01:32:09Because again, we're going to be at practice Sunday, and we're going to be watching him.
01:32:12We're going to say...
01:32:14Bobby, you are well within your rights to not cover the story.
01:32:17But every time they trot him out there, there's the possibility that he's actually going to play.
01:32:21When they didn't play him, it kind of became clear that they were never super
01:32:24serious about playing him, which changes our thinking.
01:32:27We don't know.
01:32:28You react to what's happening.
01:32:29He practiced.
01:32:30He came out.
01:32:31He warmed up.
01:32:32He was active.
01:32:33Missoula said earlier he'd be used in special circumstances, which made you think sparingly,
01:32:38if at all, then he wasn't used at all, which makes you think he was maybe only going to
01:32:42play a few minutes if they ended up winning as a tribute to him and all that he did for the team.
01:32:48That's just where we've logically gone based on what happened today.
01:32:52Things could change in the next day or two, which might make us think that perhaps he's
01:32:56actually going to play.
01:32:58Maybe they tell us he was close.
01:32:59We would have played him if the game weren't different.
01:33:01That changes things.
01:33:02We can only talk about what's being put in front of us.
01:33:05Yeah, that's it.
01:33:06But anyway, this was good.
01:33:08I'm glad we ended with this, because if it was something else, that would have been bad.
01:33:14I don't think we got anywhere.
01:33:16I don't think we got anywhere.
01:33:18I'm going to go down there.
01:33:19I'm going to go down to where Bobby is with a whiteboard.
01:33:22And we're going to draw this all out.
01:33:23Let's figure it out.
01:33:24Because we really got to map this out.
01:33:26Yeah, we got to get on the same page.
01:33:29Can we do this somewhere else?
01:33:32Should we get Luka?
01:33:32We got a Luka clip.
01:33:33Should we play it?
01:33:34All right, we'll hear from Luka.
01:33:36And then we're going to go.
01:33:36Here's Luka.
01:33:37I think we got a lively.
01:33:38We got some good stuff going.
01:33:39The beginning of this series is first to four.
01:33:42And we're going to believe till the end.
01:33:45So we just got to keep going.
01:33:47I have big belief in this team that we can do it.
01:33:51So we just got to keep believing.
01:33:53It's basketball.
01:33:54There's five people on the floor.
01:33:57So that's huge for us.
01:33:59Everybody play with a lot of energy.
01:34:01And that's how we got to do it.
01:34:02We got to think the same way in game five in Boston.
01:34:07OK.
01:34:08The best thing about this Porzingis conversation is because we haven't settled it,
01:34:12we will continue it probably for three more days,
01:34:15which means you guys get more entertainment out of this.
01:34:18We're not going to be able to get to the next update.
01:34:21We're not going to get to the bottom of it tonight.
01:34:22We are like the Celtics.
01:34:23We're a little disjointed tonight.
01:34:26Can we do Bobby cam on Monday?
01:34:28Like just in case Luke KP does go in late in the game.
01:34:33I just want to see Bobby's being like.
01:34:35Just what is it's going to be a Tim Robinson sort of thing.
01:34:38Like, yeah.
01:34:42You can't play though.
01:34:44Can you do that?
01:34:45You know, like, wait, he's just going to stand there and like hold the ball.
01:34:51I don't think I don't want to say any more about.
01:34:53I don't think I can do that.
01:34:55Yeah.
01:34:57Yeah.
01:34:59That's the look.
01:35:00Yeah, that's good stuff.
01:35:02All right.
01:35:04All right.
01:35:04He used to be a basketball player, Bobby.
01:35:07I don't know.
01:35:07What's he doing out there?
01:35:10Bobby's going to be the one guy in the garden booing when Porzingis goes out there.
01:35:14For his like wave, you know, the game's already over.
01:35:17Why are you putting him out there?
01:35:18You don't need his services right now.
01:35:20Yeah, it doesn't make sense.
01:35:22Why did we talk about him at all?
01:35:23Why did we waste our effort wondering what was going to happen with him?
01:35:28Look, guess what?
01:35:29We're going to do it again.
01:35:30We're going to do it again.
01:35:30It's going to happen Monday.
01:35:32On Father's Day, John.
01:35:34On Father's Day, Bobby.
01:35:35That's going to be bitter, bitter, bitter.
01:35:38Me is going to be like, yeah, you're doing a frigging Chris Stapp segment.
01:35:41It's going to go exactly like this.

01:35:44Okay.

01:36:06I'm going to take Nick's and I'm going to give it to you.
01:36:11Nick's picture on his.
01:36:12Nick's seen enough.
01:36:13Is Nick's picture on his?
01:36:14Because that might be difficult.
01:36:18Yes.
01:36:19Anyway, we're going to wrap it, guys.

01:37:41It actually made us feel better.
01:37:44It's therapy for both parties, I hope.
01:37:48And yeah, it'll be all right.
01:37:49The Celtics got absolutely cooked tonight in an embarrassing way.
01:37:54Hopefully, it's the worst game you'll ever see them play, this group, in their lives.
01:37:58Ever.
01:37:59Even if it's on fire.
01:38:00Yeah.
01:38:00And game five is going to go.

01:38:20There's going to be more coming out.
01:38:22Special guest here on the Garden Report late night edition.
01:38:25I think he's lurking here.
01:38:26Is there someone behind the curtain?
01:38:28They can't see.
01:38:29I think he's gone.
01:38:30Who is it?
01:38:31KOC.
01:38:33Kevin O'Connor.
01:38:34Boy, there's a lot of people that have a bone to pick with KOC.
01:38:37He is not holding up his end of the bargain as a Celtics fan,
01:38:41as far as people are concerned here.
01:38:42He's gone full heel.
01:38:44Full heel.
01:38:45I think he picked 29 other teams in the NBA to beat the Celtics in the playoffs.
01:38:51Yes, he did.
01:38:52And they're not truly a great team.
01:38:53And he's going to have his say tonight.
01:38:56So that's up.
01:38:56Don't let him off the hook.
01:38:58Tell him, Jimmy said, don't let him off the hook.
01:39:00Yeah, you can also check out First to the Floor as well.
01:39:02Those guys are going live as well right after the Garden Report.
01:39:04So check that out.
01:39:06Bobby is going to be with KOC and another cast of characters here
01:39:11with Garden Report late night edition.
01:39:12So much more basketball talk to go in to get you through the rest of the night.
01:39:18If you feel like having more, we'll provide it for you.
01:39:20That's what we do.
01:39:21Until then, we will see you guys, let's say, Sunday,
01:39:25but certainly after the game on Monday, because that's what we do.
01:39:28Post-game shows.
01:39:30We put on our hard hats every single day, every single night,
01:39:34and we show up for every single game.
01:39:36I'm putting this on for us.
01:39:38Yeah.
01:39:39You can do this too.
01:39:41We're there.
01:39:42We will see you guys.
01:39:43We'll see you guys next time.
01:39:44Wait, Amit's got an outro for us, I think.
01:39:46No, he doesn't.
01:39:47He said he was going to work on an outro.
01:39:50He had a phenomenal game.
01:39:51Phenomenal.
01:39:53I'm poor for dough, and I think it's an option.
01:40:00That did not sound like a chair.
01:40:02It was a freaking chair.
01:40:03It does sound like a chair.
