Any shallow mist and fog patches will clear leaving a mostly dry and bright morning with some sunshine, which may become hazy at times across parts of England and Wales. A cloudy and damp start across central parts of Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland too with some patchy outbreaks of rain, although this should ease and fade during the morning with brighter skies developing here - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 20/06/24. 00:00Hello there and welcome to your Thursday morning weather update from the Met Office. It's summer
00:05solstice and for many I can promise you some warm sunshine today. We do have a weak weather
00:09front straddling the north, bringing with it more cloud just for a time before this
00:13system comes in from the west on Friday, introducing cloud and some outbreaks of rain towards more
00:18western areas before it basically breaks down to showers on Saturday across England and
00:22Wales. And then notice this, a ridge comes up from the south, high pressure in charge,
00:27a fine day on Sunday, warm sunshine, turning much warmer next week. Now for the time being
00:32we see some brighter skies emerging across Caithness, Sutherland, even the Western Isles.
00:37We run into more clouds across the central belt, even with the odd spot or two of rain
00:40and that extends towards Northern Ireland away from Belfast and Newry. For England and
00:44Wales it's a fine start to the day. You may find some shallow mist and fog patches and
00:49the sunshine may be a little bit hazy at times. However, through the morning most places will
00:55be dry. And even where we see this thicker cloud across Edinburgh, Glasgow, up towards
01:01Portrush, even here we'll see the clouds slowly thin through the morning and into the afternoon.
01:07That dampness just easing away with the strength of the sun and some brighter skies coming
01:11through. Brighter skies also for Shetland and Orkney and some fine weather further south
01:17across England and Wales. But notice some thunderstorms gathering across the low countries
01:22and there's an outside chance one or two just could clip the far south east through
01:26the afternoon. At the same time, a small chance of a shower across the mountains of Wales.
01:32More clouds across the Western Isles through the latter part of the day elsewhere. It's
01:35a fine end to the day. Lots of sunshine into the evening as temperatures rise to 20 to
01:3923 degrees Celsius. So that's the picture on Thursday afternoon. Into evening time then
01:45you can see this cloud and rain just clipping the far west and north of Scotland. That's
01:49the weather front we saw earlier. Thickening clouds also for Northern Ireland. It stays
01:54fine across the central and eastern areas of Scotland, much of England and Wales into
01:58Friday morning and not as cool. Temperatures holding up there. So through the day on Friday,
02:04this cloud will continue across more western areas and again some showery rain just coming
02:09and going. Elsewhere, Friday looks fine and again a good day to be out and about. But
02:15remember, UV levels will be high with some high pollen counts as well. And we remain
02:20under dry skies anywhere from central and eastern Scotland down towards England and
02:25Wales. And later on, we'll see some clouds and rain moving across Northern Ireland. But
02:29the cloud will break up at times even through the afternoon. Here's your outlook through
02:33Saturday. The chance of showers, especially across England and Wales for Scotland, a rather
02:38cloudy start. The cloud should break up on a much better day for Northern Ireland as
02:41that sunshine returns and a fine day all round on Sunday with sunny spells and temperatures
02:47comfortably into the 20s.
