A dry start to Wednesday for most of us, with cloud affecting most of the country, while clearer skies will be seen in parts of central England, north Wales, and northern Scotland. Through the day, the cloud will break at times to leave some sunny spells, with some mild temperatures for the time of year. 00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office.
00:05Now through today, high pressure remains firmly in charge across the country.
00:09Now with that, a lot of cloud trapped underneath it and we're seeing some fog first thing.
00:14Things do change subtly as we head through Thursday, more about that in a moment.
00:20For the time being, if you are stepping out, it's a bit of a chilly start across central
00:23and northern areas of Scotland.
00:25Breezy across the far north there with the odd showery burst.
00:28You can see more cloud and a bit of dampness in the air for the central belt down towards
00:32Northumberland as well as Cumbria.
00:34A lot of clouds covering much of Northern Ireland as well.
00:37And then further south, there are some fog patches lurking out there where we've seen
00:41clearer skies overnight.
00:43Towards the south though, that cloud is fairly thick, winds remain fairly light and one or
00:47two showers just flirting with the south coast.
00:50So all in all, not a lot of weather going on, but certainly not a lot of sunshine through
00:54the first part of the day, although hazy sunshine to start the day once the sun arrives
00:59across central and northern areas of Scotland.
01:02Now through today, you will find the cloud will break at times.
01:05That's going to allow some brighter breaks to come through, if not some sunshine.
01:09So the cloud thinning, you can see here some sunshine just trying to get through.
01:14Favoured spots will always be central and eastern areas of Scotland, northeast England
01:18not doing too badly at all.
01:20And the breeze will pick up across the Western Isles as we head through the day.
01:23And in any sunshine, temperatures 14 to 16 degrees Celsius, so slightly above average
01:29for this time of year.
01:31Here's that subtle change coming in across Scotland on Thursday.
01:34The winds pick up here as this area of high pressure sinks down towards the south.
01:38And what that means, gusty over the Highlands, the southern uplands, as well as north Pennines.
01:43And the winds will pick up as we head through Wednesday evening coming in from the southwest.
01:48So temperatures will be relatively mild overnight as the cloud thickens all the while.
01:53Gusty rain on those upslopes towards the west there.
01:56More persistent rain just affecting Shetland and those winds increasing slightly across
02:02more northern parts of England, southern areas of Scotland.
02:06Towards the south, that's where the lowest temperatures are.
02:08And again, as temperatures dip down to around 7 to 9 degrees Celsius with a light wind,
02:13we could see some mist and fog patches forming as we head into Thursday morning.
02:18Through Thursday, a canvas of cloud breaking at times, allowing for some brighter skies
02:24to come through.
02:25So again, there's not a lot of change here.
02:28Subtle movements in our weather, but certainly we'll see more clouds and some patchy rain
02:32continuing across the north as well as the west of Scotland with those gusty winds over
02:37the hills.
02:38The winds ease into Friday.
02:39Again, there's a lot of cloud around.
02:41The clouds could break at times.
02:43Into the weekend, not a lot of change.
02:45This is high pressure for you.
02:48for some, brighter skies for others.
02:50I'll see you later.
02:51Bye bye.
02:52Have a lovely day.
