00:00Hello there. Welcome to your Wednesday morning weather update from the Met Office. The sun
00:05may be rising, but temperatures are struggling through this morning. It has been a cold start
00:09to the day. Now, yesterday, severe gales across the northeast of Scotland and some persistent
00:14rain, all courtesy of this area of low pressure. And this low, the position of it, continues
00:18to affect our weather through the next few days. It's dumbbelling around low towards
00:23the north, dragging in then this stream of cold air from the Arctic, extending right
00:28the way down the country. And what that means? Showers, some sunshine and a cold wind. It
00:33may be mid-September, but we are talking wind chill today. Some sunshine in shelter across
00:38eastern Scotland, northeast England. But look at these showers frequent across the west
00:42there, and they're running in across Northern Ireland, northwest England, northern parts
00:45of Wales as well. Now, to the south, yes, it is a chilly start to the day, but it will
00:50be a bright one with some sunshine coming through and a dry morning here as well. So
00:56through the morning, we watch as these showers continue. They'll be frequent and heavy across
01:01northern and western areas, with the risk of hail, the outside chance of thunder. And
01:06over the highest ground of Scotland, 900 metres, say, could see a little bit of snow as well.
01:13The wind will be a feature of the weather throughout the day, particularly exposed to
01:17the northwest wind across more northern and western areas. And the persistent rain across
01:21Shetland will be replaced by showers through the afternoon. Showers will develop elsewhere
01:26as well, so you could see the odd heavier one further south and east through the day,
01:32with a mix of clouds and sun as we enter Wednesday afternoon into evening time. Let's take a
01:38look at these temperatures then. Well, across Scotland and Northern Ireland, coming in around
01:4212 or 13 Celsius. Colder with that wind, feeling colder, should I say, at the south, 14 to
01:4816 degrees Celsius. So wherever you are, wrap up if you're heading out and about and
01:53watch out for those showers, which will continue through this evening and overnight. But they'll
01:58tend to fade away inland, frequent though across more northern and western areas. And
02:03look at this relentless winds, particularly across the far north and northeast of Scotland.
02:09Inland though, temperatures plummeting to four or five degrees Celsius. So that means
02:13even for the glens of Scotland, we could see a touch of air frost in one or two spots.
02:20But Thursday dawns bright with some sunshine. Winds won't be as blustery across inland areas.
02:26Showers particularly along the coastline, they may develop inland, but there'll be some
02:29drier interludes and a mix of clouds and sunshine. Yet again, temperatures 14 or 15 in the south.
02:35Your outlook then through Friday. One or two light passing showers in the far northwest.
02:39Generally speaking, it's a dry day, a ridge of high pressures moving in. So a cold start
02:43with a localized frost. But with that, we'll see some sunshine or change, though, as we
02:48head into the weekend from the northwest. Have a lovely day. I'll see you again soon.
