Mike & Angelo - Homeward Bound (1993)

What was the last episode of Series 5 of the long running kids TV series Mike and Angelo, originally broadcast on March 11th 1993. In this episode Mike's mother returns unexpectedly from abroad and wants to return to America with Mike. Having just started a romance with Melanie, and happy with his Aunt Rita and friend Angelo, Mike is not eager to go back, but how can he stop it?

Starring Shelley Thompson, Tim Whitnell, Michael Benz, Alexandra Milman and Jocelyn Cunningham, this was originally uploaded on Youtube by VideotapeFTW from one of his old video tapes, so all credit for this belongs to him. His own upload of this can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfBp3l8YoHg&list=PLP22qIfK2ZNSjhorSj8b2qWg7iR8q3erG&index=10. No offence is meant for these uploads. 00:38for over three hours.
00:40Oh, yes, it's one of Cliff Richard's greatest hits.
00:42Oh, really?
00:44Well, my last meeting was cancelled,
00:46so I took an early flight.
00:48Oh, that's great.
00:50Well, I'll see you later.
00:52Bye.
00:54Bye.
00:56Bye.
00:58Well, my last meeting was cancelled,
01:00so I took an early flight.
01:02I assumed you'd be home.
01:04Well, pardon us for having a life, big sister.
01:06So, where have you been, anyways?
01:08Uh, there was a poetry reading
01:10down at the library.
01:12What does it look like?
01:14So, uh, what team were you supporting?
01:16Oh, none of them.
01:18I only go along for the noise.
01:20Antimo, Antimo,
01:22go and put Paddy's cases in the spare room.
01:24So, how's my favorite boy?
01:26I'm Cock-a-hoop.
01:28Angelo, the cases.
01:30Oh!
01:32I'm fine, Mom.
01:34How are you?
01:36Burnt out, jet-lagged, homesick,
01:38and longing to be back in Boston.
01:40You, too, I guess, huh?
01:42Yeah.
01:44Right.
01:46Oh, Melanie,
01:48I'm sorry.
01:50Come on through and meet Mike's mom.
01:52Paddy,
01:54Melanie, I'd like you to meet Melanie,
01:56a friend of mine.
01:58Hello, Mr. Mason.
02:00Hello, Melanie.
02:02Angelo, careful with those.
02:04Look, I think I'd better get back.
02:06It was fun.
02:08Bye, Mike.
02:10Melanie.
02:12Melanie.
02:14So, you must be famished
02:16after waiting out there all this time.
02:18Oh, no, not really.
02:20I was happy enough gnawing on my suitcase.
02:22I have to go.
02:24Well, your mum's here, and I think it's probably best.
02:26I'll see you tomorrow before you go.
02:28Sure.
02:30Cheer up, Michael.
02:32I will write to you.
02:34And maybe the holidays I can come and see you.
02:36Or you can come and see me.
02:38Yeah, that would be great.
02:40Things aren't going to be the same
02:42without old Mike here, are they?
02:44No, they're not.
02:46I'll see you in the morning.
02:48Bye, Mel.
02:50Bye.
03:02So, your business trip was a big success,
03:04huh, sis?
03:06Mega.
03:08They loved me.
03:10So, how's life
03:12in little old England, huh?
03:14Oh, we have not stopped laughing
03:16since you left.
03:18Remember when Mike and I built that robot?
03:20I'm afraid I do.
03:22Oh, then there was the nose.
03:24Oh, and the fly.
03:26Oh, and the time when Mr. Pinner's clothes
03:28got sucked off by the vacuum cleaner.
03:30And we had this terrific party for Mike's birthday.
03:32Oh, you should have been there.
03:34We had a disco, lights the whole kaboosh.
03:36And he's got himself a girlfriend.
03:38A girlfriend?
03:40Mm, you just met her.
03:42Out there?
03:44In here.
03:46I'm sorry for a pinner.
03:48Sounds like I've been missing out on all the fun.
03:50But I guess all good things come to an end.
03:52Is he all packed?
03:54Um, actually, no.
03:56Um, I think he wants to leave it to the last minute.
03:58Every time I mention
04:00about going home, he manages to change the subject.
04:02That's my boy.
04:04Takes after his dad.
04:06The day we got married, by the time he showed up
04:08at the church, I was halfway through the honeymoon.
04:10And so began your long love affair
04:12with yourself.
04:14Touche.
04:16Where is he anyways? Mikey!
04:18Um, he went up to his room.
04:20Oh, if I don't jog him along now,
04:22he'll still be packing when we get off the plane.
04:24Mikey!
04:26You know,
04:28I'm gonna miss him.
04:30Hmm, yeah.
04:32Me too.
04:36Mikey?
04:38Hey, don't overdo it
04:40with the welcome, will ya?
04:42I'm sorry, Mom.
04:44It's good to see you.
04:46Well, have you enjoyed your vacation?
04:48A lot.
04:50Mom?
04:52We don't want to be leaving this to the last minute.
04:54Heavy stuff at the bottom, remember?
04:56Shoes, books. Come on, Michael.
05:00Not like that.
05:02Neatly.
05:04I bet you can't wait to get back
05:06and see all your friends, huh?
05:08Oh, the trainers, Michael.
05:12Oh, let's get organized here.
05:14What's eating you?
05:16Huh?
05:18For me, you inherited your brains and good looks.
05:20All your father contributed were the moody silences.
05:22What is it?
05:24It's nothing, Mom.
05:26Mom?
05:28I thought you'd be dying to get back home.
05:30Back to your own room with all your own things.
05:32Your favorite TV shows.
05:34Baseball.
05:36Hot corned beef sandwiches.
05:38What is it? You took a sudden dislike
05:40to hot corned beef sandwiches? What?
05:42I don't know, Mom.
05:44It's just I've had such a fabulous time here
05:46that...
05:48That you don't want to come home with me.
05:50I get it.
05:52No, Mom.
05:54You'd rather stay here with good old Auntie Rita.
05:56I didn't say that.
05:58Well, this is terrific. Thanks a bunch.
06:00I'm so sorry that boring old Mom's
06:02come to spoil all the fun.
06:04It's not you, Mom. It's just...
06:06I hear what you're saying, Michael. Loud and clear.
06:08And you're not even listening.
06:10No, I can't do anything right, so it seems.
06:12The only thing I excel at is being a killjoy.
06:14Patty the party pooper. That's me.
06:16Mom!
06:18You may not like the way I am, but tough.
06:20That's how it is.
06:22I guess you're stuck with me.
06:24Oh.
06:36You were very subdued all through dinner.
06:38Was I?
06:40Yeah, I never heard you so quiet.
06:42Not since that Christmas when you bet the kids
06:44you could swallow a whole tangerine all in one go.
06:46I thought to myself, this is no way
06:48for a 29-year-old woman to behave.
06:50You must have been real surprised
06:52that your big sister can let her hair down with the rest of them.
06:54Well, who said you couldn't?
06:58You call this clean?
07:04Boy, are you ever edgy.
07:06What's the matter with you?
07:08Nothing. Not a thing.
07:10Absolutely nothing.
07:14You.
07:18At last. What have I done now?
07:20You just had to give my son
07:22the time of his life, didn't you?
07:24What?
07:26You couldn't just be any regular, normal,
07:28like down-to-earth kind of auntie.
07:30Oh, no. You have to come on like a
07:32souped-up Mary Poppins.
07:34Patty, what are you talking about?
07:36Nothing.
07:38Oh, again with the nothings.
07:40Come on. You ran the trailer. Now make with the movie.
07:42Oh, it's such a small thing, really.
07:44You just had to turn my only son against me
07:46and now he doesn't want to come home with me.
07:48What?
07:50She said that you just turned her only son against her.
07:52I heard. Thank you.
07:56I didn't believe what I was hearing,
07:58but I heard.
08:00Are you actually accusing me of...
08:04I don't know. What are you accusing me of?
08:06Work it out, sister.
08:10Work it out.
08:12Oh, I hate it when she does that.
08:14She always does that.
08:18Drives me crazy when she does that.
08:22Does what?
08:24Work it out, Angelo.
08:26Work it out!
08:28There you are.
08:30Oh.
08:32Howdy-doody, little buddy.
08:34Angelo, I don't know what to do.
08:36Tell me what to do.
08:38Right.
08:40Oh, I know.
08:42I know.
08:44I know.
08:46I know.
08:48I know.
08:50I know.
08:52I know.
08:54I know.
08:56Oh, I know.
08:58Grab hold of this bolt
09:00and pass me that screwdriver around there, will you?
09:06This isn't what I meant.
09:08I want to go home with Mom. I do.
09:10But I don't want to leave you guys either.
09:12And then there's Melanie.
09:14Uh, hacksaw.
09:20I had such a great time here, Angelo.
09:22You're the best friend I've had in my whole life.
09:24Could you grab that end and steady it for me?
09:26Aren't you listening?
09:28I'm moving in my heart here.
09:30Oh, I hear you.
09:32Soldering iron.
09:36I feel like I'm split right down the middle.
09:38I want to be in Boston, and I want to be here.
09:40Hmm.
09:42But with 3,000 miles
09:44between there and here,
09:46it's not as if you can just nip backwards and forwards
09:48when you feel like it, right?
09:50Right.
09:52Angelo,
09:54what are you building here?
09:56Ha-ha. The Angelo
09:58patent-pending, matter-bending...
10:00Angelo, I'm leaving in 15 hours.
10:02Forget what it's called. What does it do?
10:04Well, I thought to myself,
10:06if Star Trek can do it,
10:08I can do it, too.
10:10You mean...
10:12This is what I mean.
10:14Beam me up, Scotty.
10:16Get out of my face,
10:18you transporter machine!
10:20You can zip to Boston and back
10:22at the flick of a switch.
10:24Journey time, approximately
10:262.5 seconds. Beats the pants
10:28of Concord, and you don't lose your
10:30luggage at the airport. Way to go!
10:32Yes, and what a way to go.
10:34Come on. Let's give it a whirl.
10:36Now? Yep.
10:38There and back. A quick whiz across the Atlantic.
10:42You sure about this?
10:44As sure as I've ever been about anything.
10:46I'm dead.
10:48Right. Now, just got to set
10:50the coordinates for your apartment
10:52in Boston.
10:56There we are.
10:58Lilies would be nice.
11:00At my funeral.
11:02Oh, silly twisted boy.
11:04See you in a mo.
11:08Energise!
11:10Whoa!
11:12Whoa!
11:18It worked!
11:20Angelo! I'm here!
11:22Amazing. Yes.
11:24Well, that's turned the old pout inside out,
11:26eh? Right.
11:28We'd better get you back, baby.
11:32Energise!
11:34Oh.
11:36Sorry.
11:38Hang on, Mike.
11:40A touch of the gremlins.
11:42Hang on.
11:48Have you seen Michael?
11:50Michael who?
11:52He was way past his bedtime. I can't find him anyplace.
11:56Holy Toledo.
11:58I've got a clock
12:00just like that one.
12:02Whoa.
12:04Back home in Boston.
12:06It's identical.
12:08Barney, my husband,
12:10gave it to me last Christmas.
12:12He swore it was the only one
12:14of its kind in the world.
12:16Look, if I see Michael,
12:18you'll be the first to know.
12:20Good night.
12:26Hang on, Mikey.
12:28I've just got to get rid
12:30of this clock.
12:36Energise!
12:38Where's my son?
12:40He's not in his room.
12:42Why?
12:44I have him chained up in my deepest,
12:46darkest dungeon,
12:48where you, dear sister,
12:50will never find him.
12:52Are we really related?
12:54Or was there some horrible mix-up at the hospital?
12:57Look, Patty,
12:59I understand your feelings,
13:01but as usual, you are overreacting.
13:03Of course Michael doesn't
13:05prefer me to you.
13:07What's ridiculous? He was really looking forward
13:09to seeing you.
13:11Then where is he? He's not in the bathroom.
13:13He's not with Angela. Where?
13:15Watching television, perhaps?
13:19Michael!
13:21Well, he's got to be somewhere.
13:23Let's try out back.
13:27Come on!
13:29Yes!
13:31Yes!
13:33I'll see if he's back from Alaska yet.
13:35My gosh!
13:37Another one!
13:39What did they do?
13:41Give them away free with gas?
13:43Come on, Angelo.
13:45Ready when you are.
13:51PHONE RINGS
13:53Hello?
13:56Oh, hi there, Michael. It's Dad there.
13:58What?
14:00Michael?
14:02Nobody here by that name, lady.
14:04You want to order a pizza, don't you?
14:06Pizza?
14:08Stop wasting my time, dollface!
14:10Angelo!
14:12It's all fixed.
14:14Hang on to your hockey sticks.
14:16Here we go!
14:18Energize!
14:21Hmm?
14:23Paddy, I've searched everywhere.
14:25There's no sign of him.
14:27Then where could he have gone?
14:29You don't think he...
14:31Nah.
14:33He wouldn't run off, would he?
14:35Would he?
14:37The mood he was in?
14:39Call the police.
14:41No, he wouldn't.
14:43I don't believe it. He's not that kind of kid.
14:45Oh, so now you know my son better than I know my son.
14:47Oh, will you cut this out?
14:50Look, Michael stayed here.
14:52He had a terrific holiday. He made some new friends.
14:54Oh, don't I know it!
14:56He wrote me every day telling me what a swell, wonderful time he was having.
14:58Yeah, exactly.
15:00He wrote you every day, every single day.
15:02Now, what does that tell you?
15:04That he was thinking about you, Paddy?
15:06That everything we did...
15:08He was always saying he wished you could have been with us.
15:11He said that?
15:13Well, what do you think?
15:16You're his mum.
15:18He loves you.
15:20Oh, Rita.
15:23Sometimes I just don't think.
15:27You know me.
15:30Come on.
15:32Let's find that kid of yours.
15:34He has to be here somewhere.
15:40Angelo!
15:42Get me out of here!
15:45Oh, dear.
15:47The transporter seems to have confused North London with the North Pole.
15:51It's a joke.
15:53Angelo!
15:55No need to get overheated.
15:57Right, now...
15:59That goes to there.
16:03Angelo!
16:05Oh, dear. Ah, yes.
16:07That goes to that.
16:10That goes to that.
16:13That goes to there.
16:15That goes over there. That goes over there.
16:18Yes!
16:28Michael!
16:30Oh, well, let's try up with Angelo.
16:33But look, they're all ready.
16:35Well, let's look again.
16:44Angelo.
16:46Have you seen Michael?
16:48Oh, I expect he's chilling out somewhere.
16:53Oh, look!
16:55Isn't that him out there in Mr Pinner's garden?
16:57Where?
16:59Where?
17:01Where?
17:03I can't see anything.
17:05Oh, is that him there?
17:07Rita, the boy's small, but he doesn't wear a beard and a pointy hat.
17:12That's a garden gnome.
17:25Yes!
17:26Hi, Mom.
17:28Mikey?
17:29Oh, thank heavens!
17:31Where have you been?
17:33I, uh, just popped out.
17:36But you're freezing.
17:38It's a cold evening out there.
17:40But you're covered in snow. It's the middle of summer.
17:43Oh, that's England for you.
17:46Come here.
17:53You will write, won't you?
17:55Ah, who needs to write, eh?
17:58He's going to be popping back to see you every five minutes.
18:01Angelo's assured me that his Star Trek gizmo's in full working order.
18:05Where are you and Angelo?
18:07Where are you and Angelo?
18:09He's dreading you going away.
18:11Me too.
18:12OK, guys, time we were off.
18:16Well, I'll be seeing you.
18:18Sooner than you think.
18:29Hold everything, guys.
18:31I just called the airport. The plane's fog-bound.
18:34Minimum eight-hour delay.
18:36Oh, what a drag!
18:38Well, I have a meeting first thing in the morning.
18:40Now what am I going to do?
18:43Will all passengers travelling to Boston
18:45kindly make their way up to the attic?
18:48Huh?
18:53I must be insane to go through with this.
18:55Relax, Mom. It really works.
18:58Thanks again, Angelo.
19:00Without you, where would we all be?
19:07Huh?
19:11Where would we all be?
19:13A very good question.
19:15I hazard a guess, at Egypt.
19:17Oh, yes, definitely Egypt.
19:19Well, don't you see? The pyramids, the camels.
19:22Why are you all looking at me like that?
19:28Angelo!
