00:00An amusing little chicken finger, the indignities of the kid's menu.
00:04On those rare occasions when our family would leave the canned corn and meatloaf behind and
00:08visit a local restaurant, mommy and daddy were handed the keys to the culinary kingdom.
00:14Their menu included exotic and adventurous foods, including succulent prime rib,
00:19delectable seafood, mouth-watering Italian dishes, and spicy Indian fare.
00:24The kids got the kid's menu. A hot dog, a few chicken fingers, a hamburger,
00:29some fries, coke. It didn't matter if the sign on the door read Pat's Legendary Steakhouse
00:35or Wong Fu's Chinese Palace, the kid's menu read hot dog, chicken fingers, hamburger, fries, coke.
00:43I understand why this kept happening intellectually, but understanding alone
00:47wasn't putting the good stuff in my belly. Eventually, I reached the age of consent
00:52and was finally allowed to look at the regular menu. I was free to order all of those delicious,
00:58cheesy, spicy foods that eluded me all those years, but years of conditioning had done their
01:03worst. I couldn't believe it myself when the words hamburger, fries, coke came out of my mouth.
01:10I didn't even get to solve the maze on the back.
