00:00What's going on everyone. Taylor
00:18Kyle's here for CLNS media
00:19coming at you with another
00:20episode of Pat's daily brought
00:22to you by our good friends at
00:23game time. And I am joined by
00:25very good friend of the show
00:26Miguel Benzign at Pat's cap on
00:29Twitter, the go to for all your
00:31cap contract extension, all that
00:33kind of related stuff regarding
00:35the Patriots. And today we have
00:36quite a lot to talk about been a
00:38pretty breezy summer break for
00:41the Patriots. We got guys
00:42getting extensions, we got
00:43people really wanting extensions
00:45and making that well known.
00:47We're going to discuss it all in
00:48terms of what can be resolved.
00:50And also what Miguel actually
00:52thinks about the extensions that
00:53have already gone through. So
00:54without further ado, Miguel,
00:56welcome back to the show. My
00:57good friend, how you doing?
00:59Doing all right, doing all
01:00right. I have a long weekend, so
01:02I got to, I got to spend
01:04tomorrow mowing my lawn. So I'm
01:06looking forward to that and
01:08cheering on the Red Sox. Let's
01:09go. Cause I got to see, I'll be
01:11able to see them play against
01:13the Royals in Kansas in early
01:14August, visiting a friend out
01:16there. So I'm looking forward
01:17to that. I, yeah, I get to
01:19visit another baseball stadium.
01:21So actually another stadium. I
01:24like seeing Alex, huh? How many
01:27Atlanta, Minnesota, New York,
01:36Boston, Worcester, Pawtucket.
01:41Okay. I got it. Okay. I'm
01:43counting Monoligue, but I'm
01:45trying. Yeah. I visited a
01:47couple of stadiums. I visited a
01:49stadium in Birmingham,
01:51Alabama. I visited a stadium in
01:53Birmingham, Alabama, but they
01:54weren't open because the team
01:56was on the road. I'm thinking
01:58about going to Cleveland next
02:00year. And I guess the Red Sox
02:03playing in Cleveland in April
02:05and also see the Rocky, Rocky
02:06Hall of Fame at the same time.
02:08We'll see. Very cool. Man, you
02:10are like, yeah, it's a bit of
02:13adventure. Well, the older I
02:15get, I'm like, I might as well
02:16spend, like do something. You
02:18know, I might as well watch
02:19football. I'm like, I'm going to
02:20watch football. I'm going to
02:21watch football. You know,
02:23might as well watch visiting
02:24some stadiums. You know what I'm
02:25saying? Amen, brother. Amen.
02:27Here's the time you got. All
02:28right. Might as well do that.
02:30Now let's talk about some of
02:32your favorite Patriots
02:33extensions. We've got a lot of
02:34news and everything to talk
02:35about, but I'm curious because
02:36you know, the ins and outs of
02:37all these contracts and the
02:39entire situation and the
02:40landscape of how they look. So
02:42with all the players that have
02:43been extended in this new
02:44Patriots regime, what have been
02:46your favorite deal so far or
02:47your favorite players that have
02:48been retained?
02:51Okay. This is funny. The one
02:52that I like the most is the one
02:55that probably got the wrong the
02:56most. That's far more. I
02:59thought he would've got a much
02:59bigger deal. All right. I was
03:02way off on the money. All
03:04right. I was way off on how
03:06team-friendly it is. It's a
03:08really team-friendly deal, but
03:10I, the why I, it's my, it's my
03:12favorite because he is one of
03:14the best players on the team.
03:16And that's once they extended
03:18him, I knew that there's all
03:21this talk about draft and
03:22develop was real. So I, I knew
03:26going forward, like I said,
03:28like right after I started
03:29free agency, I picked like five
03:32players. They could get
03:32extended. All right. I would
03:34have never have done that under
03:37the, under the prior regime. I
03:38would never had that because
03:39they, they just, that just
03:40wasn't their thing. Right. It
03:43is what it is. We moved on.
03:44I'm grateful. We've got the six
03:47championships, so I don't, I'm
03:48not gonna speak ill of Bill
03:49Belichick. He's like, he and I
03:51both economics majors. I think
03:53he's great. I'll think I'll say
03:54this over time, over time. I
03:58think he was the greatest GM of
04:00all time. All right. Over time
04:02you can, everybody can pick
04:03he's made, the team has made
04:06makes about 100 to 200
04:08transactions a year. So you
04:11could pick out several here.
04:12Yeah. He's gotten wrong. All
04:14right. All right. With the
04:16benefit of high insight and
04:17everything. So it is what it
04:18is. Um, but I love the Christian
04:21Bob ordeal because he's a great
04:23player. I think he's an up and
04:24coming player. Um, and I like
04:29another thing I like about it
04:30because it had different
04:31amounts of things in it. Like
04:34did we have the active roster
04:35bonuses and offseason workout
04:36bonuses, which just reinforces
04:38my notion that trying to guess
04:41the numbers of the deal after we
04:43hear it's three years and $75
04:45million is pointless, right?
04:47Because the numbers do you
04:48don't know the underlying
04:49numbers, right? So just great
04:54for the details. If you want to
04:55be for, um, make an opinion on
04:57that without having the
04:58details, you go ahead. That's
05:00not my thing. All right. And
05:02because I need to know the
05:03details of the, you know, to
05:04have an informed opinion about
05:06it. Um, so that's, that's my,
05:10you sent me that in a DM and
05:11then we, um, and I said, that's
05:14I was going to go, which one I
05:16thought was the most team
05:17friendly, but at the end I
05:18wanted to go with one that
05:21proved me wrong. Cause I think
05:22we had talked about this before.
05:23We both thought he was going to
05:24get, I thought he was closer to
05:27$25 million, $25 to $27 million.
05:31All right. So I was way off and
05:34I thought it would have been a
05:35stronger deal for him in terms
05:38of guaranteed money. Right. And
05:41that the Patriots couldn't walk
05:42away, but it isn't. So I liked,
05:45um, to be, I like the things to
05:48be, to keep me on my toes.
05:52Yeah. That's why it's my
05:54favorite. You know, man, I know
05:56you get bored at some point.
05:58You're like, give me something
05:59new. Give me a curve ball just
06:00to get you some excitement a
06:01little bit now. Actually the
06:05curve, because it's hard to
06:09explain on Twitter curve balls,
06:12even with pictures, even when I
06:16put it, even when I put it in
06:19pictures of the deals, people
06:21still have questions about the
06:22numbers in it. So imagine if I
06:24have to do it with a curve ball.
06:28Okay. Yeah. I can see how that
06:29may be a little bit tougher
06:31there. Yeah. There's two sides
06:32to every, two sides, every
06:33point. But speaking of one big
06:35guy who signed a team friendly
06:37deal, moving on to another now,
06:38Mike and when you, obviously
06:40when he signed his deal, the
06:41understanding, I think pretty
06:43much on all sides was he was
06:44going to be the Patriots
06:45starting right tackle. But now
06:47as we saw towards the end of
06:48minicamp, obviously the first
06:50time minicamp, we saw, Oh,
06:51excited to have Miguel on me too.
06:53Matt, me too. Always. You got
06:56some love in the chat, my man.
06:57So with Mike and when you, as we
06:59saw in minicamp, the first day
07:01of minicamp, we saw he and
07:02Caden Wallace were on the right
07:03side together with the tubes.
07:05Then the last day of minicamp,
07:06it started to look like, wow.
07:07Okay. Maybe Mike and when he was
07:09back at right guard, right? I
07:10think we could all agree he's a
07:11better player, but then some
07:13questions started to pop up
07:14over, okay, well, he signed a
07:15deal like a right tackle. Is he
07:17now overpaid as a guard? Now I
07:19have my own opinions on this,
07:21but you know better than I
07:22would. So I want to know from
07:23your opinion, is he overpaid on
07:25his current deal? If he ends up
07:27going back to the guard spot?
07:30It depends on how you rate him
07:32as a guy. I read him as an elite
07:34guy. He's getting paid. Then if
07:36you, I, if you agree with that,
07:38then he's fine. Then he's, he's
07:40getting paid comparable. But if
07:41you think he's just a good guy,
07:43then he's probably getting paid
07:45somewhere between 20 to 25%
07:48higher than he should be. But if
07:50you think he's in the top
07:51echelon of, of God play. All
07:54right. And real and realizing
07:56that, that the market has gone
07:58up for the God play interior
08:00line play big time in a lot over
08:02the last couple of years. So his
08:04deal right now in a couple of
08:05years, he like is going to, he's
08:07going to get suppressed by other
08:08guys soon. All right. We just
08:10saw the guy from the Broncos
08:12surpass him. All right. Yeah. So
08:14if you think if he's elite, then
08:15he's not overpaid. If you don't
08:16think he's elite, then he's
08:17overpaid. Then that's an, I don't
08:19have to convince anyone. You have
08:22a better chance of convincing
08:23people on this level of play than
08:24I do. All right. I'm just going
08:26by my eyes. I think he's really
08:28good. I, I'll be God. I follow
08:31people on Twitter, like you,
08:32Brendan Thorne, blah, blah, blah.
08:34They all tell me, you know, all
08:35you guys are telling me that he's
08:36really, really good and an elite
08:38player at top 10, whatever you
08:40whatever number you make, I think
08:43he is. All right. Um, his deal
08:47has the upside of being either
08:51way, you know what I'm saying?
08:52Like, it's a good deal for, if
08:54he's a God, it was a good deal of
08:55his attack. As long as he plays
08:57well, that's all that matters. I
08:59mean, us talking about it now,
09:01before he plays it, like we all
09:03think what he is. All right. But
09:04something could change. Like, you
09:06know, saying like God forbid, I
09:08want to break gents, the man, but
09:10what if he gets hurt? All right.
09:11Then everybody, then then deal
09:12does not look so good. All right.
09:14But no one can control if you're
09:16going to say that, but you can't
09:17predict injuries. And I don't
09:18want to, that's why he bringing
09:19them up. And because I hate
09:22jinxing people.
09:24No, but I think you're spot on
09:25just within money with anything.
09:26I think it's a better value with
09:28him at guard than it is a tackle
09:29because tackle is where I think
09:31he's like a good to solid player.
09:33Like, I don't think he's going to
09:34make any trouble inside.
09:37I'm sorry.
09:42Yeah. It's better value of God.
09:45All right. But he's more likely
09:46he was working as funny as he's
09:47more. Yeah, no, but he, he's
09:51more likely to his incentive at
09:52the guy decision. So therefore
09:54he's his cap number will go up.
09:56All right. So it'd be less of a
09:57bargain because he will hit us
09:58all pro and pro bowl things.
09:59All right. But
10:04it's, everybody has an opinion.
10:05All right. I, I, if you think
10:06that Michael one who is overpaid,
10:10I don't think there's anything
10:10that I can say to change your
10:12mind. I mean, like literally,
10:15all right. I just know that he
10:17plays most of the people I
10:19respect about quality who talked
10:23about evaluating O-line play.
10:25I think he's really, really good
10:26at it. And that's all I go by.
10:30Because I'm not going to honestly
10:31go, I don't see watch all 32
10:34watch all 32 right guys play.
10:36I'm not, I'm not doing that
10:37during my day.
10:41Nobody, but when you, yeah.
10:44All right. Now let's move on to
10:45some other staples of this new
10:46regime of the Patriots. Now,
10:48when we got reminder, Stevenson
10:50and then pretty shortly after we
10:51got Jelani to buy now remind me,
10:53Steven, I wouldn't say he's
10:54underrated. I think 2022 kind of
10:56showed how valuable he was to
10:58this offense, but he got paid
10:59like a top 10 running back. So
11:01clearly the Patriots think, and
11:02you know, in this, uh, the
11:03Jeremy Fowler ESPN rankings, he
11:05only got a boat. He wasn't top
11:0610. It was an honorable mention.
11:08But I think when you look at one
11:10of his stats throughout his
11:11career and also how well-rounded
11:12he is, I personally think you
11:14could absolutely make the
11:14argument that he is in that top
11:1610 conversation. And then
11:17Jelani to buy another guy who
11:18got an extension, not the same
11:20kind of like top of the market
11:21contract, but something from an,
11:23from my perspective, look pretty
11:24good for a guy who is a, and
11:26that's such a big role. So from
11:28your perspective, we can start
11:29with whatever player you want
11:31reminder, Stevenson and Jelani
11:32to buy, what did you think of
11:33their extensions? And did you
11:34think that they were good from
11:36the team and player perspective,
11:37or did you have some kind of
11:39issue with either one of them?
11:43Oh, no, no, no. We should,
11:44they're both team-friendly deals.
11:45They both let's remember the
11:46sense that got extended. All
11:48right. Then new money deal is
11:51less than the published the
11:53paper. The paper money money
11:56API is less than a new money
11:57API. What did I mean?
11:58You mentioned that with
11:59Stevenson a while ago, he'd be
12:01cheaper. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Like
12:05let's divide. Okay. But let's
12:08not include his LTP incentives.
12:10All right. Um, they had for $1
12:13million this year. He was to get
12:15around less than $2 million in
12:16cash this year. All right. Then
12:19he gets seven, then he's getting
12:20in his new deal. He gets a base
12:22value of $15 million. All right.
12:24That's 17 divided by four. All
12:27right. But we're going to say
12:28he got a $5 million deal. All
12:30right. But for the Patriot side
12:32of it, they're thinking he's
12:33just going to get over $4.25
12:34million. All right. That's what
12:36they got to pay in cash. And if
12:37he earns his incentive, that's
12:40terrific. You know what I'm
12:41saying? Um, cause he has $6
12:43million incentive. So even at
12:44worst, it comes out to like
12:46$5.5 million. If he earns every
12:49sentence and folks, the last
12:51incentive is like $500,000. He
12:54plays 80% play time in the team
12:57makes the playoffs. All right.
12:58If that, if that all, if that
13:00happens, does anyone really get
13:01to complain about paying the
13:02man $500,000? All right. And
13:04incentives? No. Um, Stevenson
13:09is, he's, he's up there as it
13:13turns around, but there's a big
13:14gap, you know, but like he's
13:16less half and of, um, Christian
13:21Mack, Mack, uh, my gosh,
13:23McCaffrey, McCaffrey, I can't
13:26talk today. I spent all day
13:28talking today. Sorry. You're
13:30good. So he's, he's in there.
13:35He's in there, but I don't
13:36think he's getting paid right
13:38around where he should be. And
13:40he's his incentives. If he hits
13:42his incentives, he's still not
13:44going to be in a top 10 terms
13:47of API or terms of cash. I mean,
13:50this year he's going to get a
13:52lot of cash because he got paid
13:53assigning bonus. Right. But
13:54going forward, his deal is
13:56tremendous bargain. And the
13:58fact is they can kind of get
13:59rid of both players in, in the
14:03fall of two 2025 and still got
14:07create cap space. So, I mean,
14:09that's, I really, that's a
14:11pretty tempting friendly thing.
14:13All right. Um, I like both
14:15deals. I just found that, um, I
14:21was more surprised about the
14:22time. Like I said, I think I
14:24said, I said to you, I was
14:25thought that all these deals
14:26would happen now. I read it on
14:28this time period right before,
14:29right before training camp. Like
14:30we just saw with the Broncos
14:31guy, we just saw someone, Oh my
14:33gosh. Someone, there's another
14:35guy who just got extended. I
14:36just forgot his name. All
14:37right. Um, I am surprised by the
14:40time is that I get the pages
14:41really do mean no days off. Um,
14:45it is remarkable how they keep
14:48on extending players and yet
14:52they still have players who
14:53they still could extend. Um,
14:55that's one of the factors is
14:57that they had ended the 2023
14:59season with so many players on
15:02IR. So you had the 53 main
15:04roster and then you had 15
15:05people on, on IR. So that gives
15:07you a big roster to carry into
15:10that 2024, which they did. Um,
15:13yeah, so I like both deals. I,
15:18I have yet, Oh, I should be
15:20really careful what I'm going
15:22to say. Yeah. Those who don't
15:24dislike the deals kind of said
15:26it right away, right before the
15:27details of it came out. All
15:29right. And those who didn't like
15:31the divide deal. Okay. The,
15:32those who didn't like the divide
15:34deal were more talking about,
15:36well, what about Juneau? What
15:39about Godshaw? Right. Rather
15:41than saying, well, he got paid
15:43too much. I'm like, he's getting
15:44paid at most five to $7 million
15:47a year. That's not even close.
15:51The, the, what the top lineback
15:54is again. All right. He's
15:55getting right just above. He's
16:00in the middle of a linebacker
16:01market. It's like 30, you know,
16:0330 scrolling. You got to get
16:05through a couple of pages, but
16:07in the, but, but there's like,
16:08but you know, but if you do a
16:10million down a million dollars
16:11difference, right, you get more
16:13guys. There's a, there's a
16:14tight, once you get past the top
16:16guys, everyone's close together.
16:18Right. There's not a big gap. So
16:21if you go from five to three,
16:22there's a lot of people in
16:23there. So it was, I don't know,
16:28like, and then saying he got
16:30overpaid. I'm like, when people
16:33say he got overpaid, I'm like,
16:34tell me what, how much did you
16:35expect him to get in an
16:37extension? Like, what did you
16:38expect him to sign for? Like,
16:40he's not like he's, I don't
16:43think, I don't know. I don't
16:44think he's going to get $20
16:45million a year, but I don't
16:46think he was going to say sign
16:47for $2 million, just what he was
16:48getting right now. What would
16:50be your point?
16:54Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It's like,
16:55like, it was like, um, like
16:58those are the people I think
16:59you don't want to play fantasy
17:00football with because they're
17:01going to offer you horrendous
17:02deals.
17:05Speaking of which, we got to
17:06figure out how to get in the
17:06lead together. All right. We've
17:08just thrashed the surface. We
17:09still got to talk about
17:11in the effects that these
17:13extensions have potentially had
17:14on locker room, but first quick
17:15word for our friends at game

18:29All right, Miguel. So with all
18:30the extensions, new contracts
18:32that have gone out now, we're
18:33getting guys like Matthew
18:34Judon and Devon Dodge who've
18:35been vocal, you know, maybe not
18:37with us, but in their behavior
18:38and reports or what have you
18:40about not being too happy with
18:41the deal. So I'm curious before
18:43we actually get into their
18:44situations, do you think that
18:46the Patriots went overboard on
18:48their extensions handing out so
18:49many new deals under this new
18:50regime? Or is that just the
18:52price of doing business for a
18:53new regime when you're trying to
18:55make sure that you're rounding
18:56out your roster? Cause you know,
18:57I probably lean towards the
18:58latter, but I'm curious if you
19:00think maybe they're just doing a
19:01bit too much when it comes to
19:02handing out all these new deals.
19:05The price of having so few
19:08players sign for future years.
19:11All right. That's what one, one
19:12of the reasons they could
19:13extending because they had so
19:15few players signed for future
19:16years. All right. Um, that's one
19:19thing. And the other thing is
19:23you have a player at the most
19:26important position, the most
19:28expensive position on a rookie
19:30deal. All right. Once today's
19:35this year, Jack may, Drake may
19:37got, is going to get over $20
19:39million in cash, right? 2025,
19:4326, 27, unless they extend them
19:45in 27, he's going to get less
19:47than 10 minutes, something like
19:48less than $10 million. All right.
19:50So you might as well spend the
19:51blood, spend the money because
19:53you have a three years, a three
19:55year cash spending requirement.
19:57Right. There is value in having
20:06player retention because a lot,
20:08you know, your players better
20:11than, you know, the players are
20:12from a different team. We can
20:14only hope, you know, what the
20:16player can do, a current player
20:17in your team can do when you
20:19said, you know, that with, uh,
20:21with a hundred percent certainty,
20:24you can only hope that your
20:25projection for a player from
20:27another team is ends up being a
20:30hundred percent. You have no,
20:32you have fact versus hope and
20:36projection. Your fact is kind of
20:38player hope and projections for
20:40a player from a different roster.
20:43You just have to make the right
20:44choices on the players. You
20:46extend, you have to make the, at
20:49the, at the right value loan. I
20:53will say this tail overall, the
20:56Patriots got team-friendly deal.
20:59All right. Everyone, I think at
21:02most part, they send like over
21:0330 players, right? Whatever.
21:04It's either signed as fee
21:06agencies or extended players.
21:07It's close to 30. I'd be hard
21:10pressed the count to say five
21:14that I thought I would consider
21:16truly might have gotten overpaid.
21:19And then I'll say like, like one
21:22day would make, if you make the
21:24say that Hunter Henry got
21:25overpaid, I'm not going to argue
21:27with you. All right. Cause he
21:28got a $9 million at his age. Ah,
21:30I can, I can see that argument.
21:32All right. But other people, if
21:35you want, like Josh Houston
21:36definitely didn't get overpaid.
21:38Right.
21:39Uche bargain.
21:42All right. Huh?
21:47Okay. No, he was right in line
21:49with what I thought. Okay. He
21:51was right in line with his
21:52thoughts. If you didn't like
21:54Kyle Dagger as a player, you
21:55would say he's overpaid. All
21:56right. That's, but I thought he
21:59got around what a little, he
22:02got maybe half to maybe a
22:03million dollars more than I
22:04thought he was going to get.
22:05All right. But that's in, in,
22:07in that what, okay. I'm not
22:09going to, but that's not, I'm
22:10not going to say that makes him
22:11will be paid. All right. You
22:14don't think that it was me?
22:15Like in the scheme of things,
22:17it was like, I was just off on
22:18the, on the, on the market.
22:19All right. Um, I'm trying to
22:23think of other guys, but if I
22:24know, Oh my gosh. Um, definitely
22:29not. Oh my God. You don't say
22:30that Andrew's not. Yeah,
22:33definitely. And there's so many
22:35guys. I'm like the guys, the
22:37number of guys you could think
22:38who got overpaid versus the
22:39guys I thought got underpaid is
22:42it's lopsided. Okay. Um, I
22:45saw, I don't, I guess only if
22:49you believe that the page, if
22:51you know, okay, let me, let me
22:52rephrase this. If you know how
22:55much the paper is going to spend
22:57in cash this year, right? Then
23:00you can make the argument. They
23:01went overboard. I don't know
23:03that number. None of us know
23:04that number. Right. Are you
23:06saying? So that, and I'll say
23:08what, while I'm confident, none
23:10of us, I don't know that number.
23:11Right. But I do know right now
23:13they're in the top nine in the
23:15cash spending categories. No
23:17three major cash spending
23:18categories as of today. All
23:20right. Um, I do know they have
23:23close to $50 million incentives
23:25that do not count in the cash
23:27counting categories because
23:29they haven't been learned. All
23:31right. So I know that the
23:32pagers are willing to spend as
23:35much as in the $325, $300
23:39million range. All right. I
23:41don't know who's going to get
23:42hurt. It's like, cause I get,
23:44every time you play against
23:45certain, you're replacing that
23:46cost as cash and cop. All
23:48right. Um, I don't know what
23:51their limit is. I wouldn't be
23:53surprised if there is no limit
23:54for them this year, because
23:56this is the year to do it
23:58because most of the NFL
24:01contracts are two years and
24:03see in the third year, right?
24:07In 2026, we got to make it
24:09this, that's going to be the
24:10last year that they, we, that
24:12Drake may is playing on before
24:14we get extended. You want to
24:16put him in the best position to
24:18succeed definitely in 2026. You
24:20want to obviously do it in
24:212024, 2025, but definitely in
24:232026, cause you got a decision
24:25to make about his option yet.
24:27All right. So these deals
24:30that we're talking about, they
24:32have pages can walk away after
24:342025. What are most of these
24:36deals and still have very little
24:37dead money and still be able to
24:38go after big name contracts in
24:402026. All right. Um, I only, if
24:46you believe in crowd and cash
24:47crowding, and then, you know,
24:49the number, otherwise it's just
24:51speculation. I don't think, I
24:54don't know if I knew the
24:56pictures, well, how much they
24:57willing to spend this year.
24:58That would be concerned. I
24:59don't. All right. So I'd also
25:02know that how much they can
25:03spend. They, they, they, by, by
25:05willing to sign these players,
25:07those sensors, you're saying I'm
25:08willing to spend this money.
25:10Right. So they're really
25:14everyone's like to look at it as
25:15spending, not spending cap
25:17health wise, based on what
25:18they've done so far. Even if you
25:20factor in, maybe they sign like
25:21a handful of players during the
25:22season to fill some holes. Do
25:24you think they're in a good
25:25spot?
25:26Oh, they're in a great spot.
25:27They're in a great spot this
25:28year. And I'll be don't want to
25:31jinx the team again in order for
25:34them to be not in a good spot
25:36next year, or not even be in a
25:37great spot. They had to suffer
25:39injuries this year, a lot of
25:40injuries. All right. And the
25:42other, the other thing that
25:43could hurt them next year is the
25:46players with the $50 million
25:49incentives, basically earn them
25:51all, which would mean the
25:52Patriots would have a negative,
25:54adjust a negative adjustments to
25:55the 25 crap in the captain.
25:58We're going to go up. All right.
26:00Because they hit the making
26:02their incentives that was
26:03reconsidered for 2024, not
26:05likely to be earned it because
26:06it likely be around for 2025. So
26:09that's a double hit, right? When
26:11a player hurt who has the same
26:13incentive in 2024 and 2025 earns
26:15on not likely to be burned
26:17incentive. It's a double hit
26:19because you, you lower the 2025
26:22adjust a cap number by let's say
26:23a million dollars and you
26:25piece that plays cap number by a
26:27million dollars. So that's a $2
26:27million hit. Right. All right.
26:32Which is why I don't like giving
26:34out because I don't know who's
26:35going to make their incentives.
26:36All right. But I'm looking at,
26:38at the totals for 2025. And I'm,
26:42and I'm guessing, let's say the
26:43cap goes up to $280 million.
26:46All right. And if you watch
26:47hard knocks and the first person
26:49that they, the NFL didn't know
26:50what it was going to be until the
26:51very end. All right. So we're
26:53just, whatever you want to use,
26:55I want to use two 80 because
26:56it's a round number. All right.
26:58Plus I would, I would die
27:00laughing. It was $283 million
27:01because you know, because that
27:05whole Atlanta thing. All right.
27:06Um, 20, yeah. I, I can't see.
27:10And I have the cap total around
27:13180. That's a hundred million
27:15dollars difference. I'm not
27:16saying the cap number, cap
27:17space is a hundred million
27:18dollars, but I'm saying that's
27:19what they, they, they, they
27:21cushion as of today before any
27:23incentives and saying before
27:26they extend or make offers to
27:30the ERF phase or our phase or
27:32place a transition tag on
27:34Jabril purpose. Cause which I
27:35think it's going to happen
27:38because I'm like, I'm like, I
27:40missed, we missed, we missed the
27:42Cal Duggar thing. This is a
27:43tag. I'm not going to make that
27:44same mistake place. So I'm
27:46going on a record saying, I
27:47think that's going to happen.
27:50So with all this cap space and
27:52all this cap health, obviously
27:54it seems like they're drawing
27:55the line when it comes to
27:56Devon, Godshaw and Matthew
27:57Judah. Now, of course we don't
27:59know what's going to happen.
28:00They could very well end up
28:01finding some kind of middle
28:02ground that they're both happy
28:03with, but why do you think there
28:05is so much difficulty with
28:06these two players? And what do
28:08you think reasonable deals
28:09would look like for each of
28:10these guys?
28:11Age, age, age, age, the NFL is
28:15such a young man's game. They
28:18are the, what the Patriots only
28:20have six, maybe six guys on
28:22this team that are over the age
28:23of 30. All right.
28:24Hunter Henry and Andrews were
28:26the only ones who got
28:26extensions that are going to be
28:2730 this year.
28:30Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so
28:33young man's game, um, bomber
28:36did get paid, but Laura's guy
28:38got released. All right. Do you
28:42believe in the talents of Keon
28:47white, Sam Roberts, Jeremiah
28:51farms, you know, saying these
28:52guys on the interior lines,
28:53Daniel Eccolet, who got hurt
28:55last year. All right. He was
28:59pretty good. All right. He's on
29:02a relatively cheap contract.
29:07All right. If you say, well, I
29:11can't work out how to deal with
29:13gotcha. And, but you can extend
29:19Eccolet was your little, you
29:20know what I'm saying? But less
29:22money than what gotcha, you
29:24know what I'm saying? So you can
29:26build around, you save, you have
29:28some savings there. You got
29:30Eccolet plus a player to replace
29:33gotcha. That's why, um, I think
29:38it's going to happen. I've never
29:40bought that. God shot was going
29:42to get extended. I'm like,
29:43literally I've had five people
29:45when I did it, I said five
29:46people and they probably should
29:47have had six. Cause I thought
29:48Ben's school would be the guy.
29:49Right. I never thought gotcha
29:51would be because he's like, if
29:52you want to extend it by more
29:55and you got these young guys
29:57talents, they have the
29:58opportunity to show up, you
30:01know what I'm saying? I don't
30:03see it happening with him, but I
30:04think the deal that makes most
30:06sense for him is just give him
30:09the hundred hundred jail, same
30:11money, same structure. Give him
30:14a hundred hundred deal. They're
30:15on the nine, $9 million, 27, you
30:18know, $9 million a year, $27
30:21million in three years. But for
30:22him, because it's, it's an
30:23extension, it'd be a 9.35 million
30:27dollar API. So that's the agents
30:29could say you got better money,
30:30better deal than underhanded.
30:32All right. Because of the new
30:33money thing. All right. Um, I'll
30:38be pleasantly surprised if God
30:42shot signs a deal with them. I
30:44will not be shocked if you get
30:45traded. Okay. I will be, I will
30:50be surprised that they don't
30:51reach a deal with Judah because
30:52it's relatively easy to do so.
30:54I just think that like they're
30:57deciding on, on negotiating on
31:00the guaranteed money, not the
31:02guaranteed money for 2024. All
31:04right. Cause we know, say we're
31:05not, we know he's not getting
31:06cut. All right. We know that
31:08Judah is not getting cut period.
31:09All right. Is that, that's not
31:10happening. So we just get to
31:12say, we can also suppose, so we
31:14soak it. Think that that is
31:16salary that's out there, but
31:19it's already, it's not
31:22explicitly guaranteed, but we
31:23can say implicitly guaranteed.
31:25All right. So they're talking
31:27about the guaranteed money for
31:282025 and 2026. All right. I
31:32think that he's like, if I was
31:34Matthew Judon, all right, I
31:36don't want to go through this
31:37again. Appreciate. Yes. All
31:40right. So he did this, you know,
31:42we, so I want guaranteed money
31:45for 2024. I want my, I want all
31:48of my salary at 2025 fully
31:50guaranteed. I want a good
31:52portion that you have to think
31:55about cutting me in 2026 in the
31:57early part of the, of, of the
31:59agency, or I want a huge roster
32:03bonus in the early part of the
32:05off season. So you have to make
32:07a decision so I can go into fee
32:08agency at the beginning and not
32:10at the end. All right. One of
32:12those two things. All right.
32:14That's what they're looking.
32:14That's what if I was Matthew
32:16Judon, that's what you're
32:16looking for. If I, and I'm, and
32:18so you would talk about money,
32:20I'm thinking $15 million is a
32:22magic number. Okay. He was
32:25signed for a deal at 1230, the
32:27original deal, I was around 13
32:30and a half, but the cap has
32:33gone up since then. Right. His
32:34value to the team has got up
32:36since then. All right. But he's
32:38all also older. He's coming off
32:40a season. He just played four
32:41games. So let's go with 15.
32:44Let's guarantee the salary for
32:452024. Let's guarantee the
32:47salary. 25 guaranteed some
32:49salary for 2026. Let's go and
32:52deal. Let's go. Let's go. All
32:53right. And do you think it's
32:54the team that's saying they
32:55don't really care? I'm sorry,
32:57buddy. So I think that's like
32:59kind of where the issue is. The
33:00team's like, we don't want to
33:01guarantee 2024 and 2025. Is
33:03that where you think they're
33:04not really? I don't think they
33:06want to guarantee 26. I think
33:08that I think they're willing to
33:09guarantee 2024. That's I don't
33:12think they're negotiating about
33:132024. I think negotiating about
33:16this, the guarantees for 2025
33:18and 2026, I can see Jude. I'm
33:23saying, I'm not, I got to get
33:25my salary fully guaranteed in
33:262025. I can see that being a
33:28sticking point. All right. I
33:30could, I could, Oh, let me, I
33:33gotta look at a hundred
33:34hundred's deal. It's his salary
33:372025 fully guaranteed. Now I
33:39gotta hold on a minute. Now. I
33:40don't know. I said, no, I'm
33:41just off the top of my head.
33:42Cause I, I know his numbers for
33:432024, but I don't remember his
33:44numbers for 2025. That's
33:46embarrassing. All right. Hold on
33:47a minute. I love it. Now I'll
33:50get you the love that you're
33:52getting in the chat. All right.
33:55Right. Oh, is the Honda Hendry
33:58has 6.65 million dollars of his
34:01salary guaranteed for 2025.
34:04All right. Matthew June should
34:05definitely beat that. Okay. And
34:08you know, saying that's, that
34:09should be the very minimum.
34:11All right. That's the, all of
34:13Hunter Henry. All right. If
34:14you're getting willing to
34:15guaranteed a tight end, all
34:18right, a tight end, a fully
34:20guaranteed contract at 2025,
34:24you should be able to guarantee
34:25that offered Matthew June. All
34:27right. I think that the hangup
34:29is 20, 25 and 20 to 26. All
34:33right. Um, we will see what
34:36happens folks. I'll be, I'm
34:38still on the record saying he's
34:40going to get extended. I, I
34:42think all this other stuff is
34:44just nonsense. Now all this
34:45noise is just nonsense. Um,
34:50we'll see what happens. I could
34:51be wrong. All right. Um, but if
34:56I'm wrong, it's more likely
34:58that I'll be wrong because he,
35:02the two sides that either
35:04somebody came in and offered the
35:06page is a great deal in the
35:07trade. And it's saying, it's
35:09like, like he's two sides come
35:13to, uh, reach an impasse. The
35:16patient's saying, you don't see
35:17if you can find a trade partner
35:18if they can, and if they do,
35:20they give us what they want.
35:21You can go, we'll move on.
35:23That's more, if I'm wrong,
35:25that's the more likely scenario
35:26that happens. All right. Well,
35:29man, okay. I want to make sure
35:33the computing is going. That's
35:35what, that's what Matt, that's
35:36what Matt ends up getting
35:38traded because I think he gets
35:42traded. I, especially if the
35:45guys, the young guys show up in
35:47the, in training camp. I mean,
35:53Eculate, who else do we need to
35:56them for the show up to be
35:57really the top three, to be a
35:58quality Jeremiah farms, then
35:59far more played a lot of nose
36:01tackle last season.
36:01Yeah. So it's like, if like
36:08they just need one of those
36:09guys, one of those guys and
36:11then say, bye, go, gotcha. And
36:13then you got younger and
36:14cheaper. I'm not saying they got
36:15better because the NFL, when
36:17you, I'm not saying they got
36:18better, but they got younger and
36:19cheaper. All right. Um, I don't
36:24think he's going to be in a
36:24roster. If I, if I'm doing a 53
36:26man roster, I'm not, I'm not
36:28putting no, I'm not putting them
36:29on the roster. All right. I
36:31don't like, I'm not putting up
36:34just because if he's that, like
36:36literally he's talking about
36:37this money thing. I'm like, man,
36:39you're not getting. Okay. So I
36:41looked it up. All right. In
36:43terms of cap and cash this year,
36:46he's in the top 15. All right.
36:49And API he's in a 30th. I'm
36:51like, but he can't go that much
36:53more. I want to bring up the
36:55guard shot stuff. All right.
36:57And so doesn't it feel like
36:58really all he wants is maybe
36:59just guarantees for this year,
37:01not an extension, but just so he
37:03knows he has some money since
37:04none of it's guaranteed.
37:07Oh, I wish that was it. That'd
37:09be so simple to do. Cause
37:10literally you could just give
37:11him a raise. Right. Literally
37:13you could give him like, he's
37:16going to get a $3.3 million this
37:18year in cash. That's what he's
37:19doing. Right. You can give him
37:21$12 million pro rate over next
37:23year. And we're done. Yeah. If
37:25that was it. It's really so
37:27simple. If it was just that it
37:30would be done like this. So you
37:32think he wants an extension
37:33since we're going through a big,
37:34like, like, I think he wants an
37:36extension that pays him more
37:38than what they think he's
37:39worth. Cause if it was, if the
37:43two sides could agree, um, on
37:46like, if Mike reset said
37:47something about maybe they do
37:50something about incentives and
37:51stuff like that. Right. If that
37:54was to happen, I think it would
37:56that's the, that's the second
37:58easiest thing to do. All right.
38:00Is, but the play has to agree to
38:01it. I'm not sure I would, if I
38:03was gotcha on his shoes, I would
38:05do it. All right. I definitely
38:07wouldn't do it. Um, it's, I
38:09would see if I would definitely
38:10do it if I was Judah because he
38:12played in so few games, he
38:14doesn't, it's so be so easy to
38:17give him millions and millions
38:19of millions of dollars and not
38:20likely be earned incentives. You
38:23could tag it, you know, you got
38:25sacks, you got available to
38:26them. You got the winds, you got
38:28improvement in defensive. Oh,
38:30that'd be tough because the team
38:31was pretty good. But so let's
38:33say they have, you place, you
38:37got the snaps, you could tie it
38:39to snaps and wins. You can tie
38:40it to snaps and wins and play
38:42out for films. So probably want
38:44to say it's so much easier for
38:45him than for gotcha. Um, I just
38:52gotcha has to be thinking. I
38:53looked at this the other day,
38:54let me look at my table again.
38:56A lot of it. I started thinking
38:59like he can't ask for that much
39:00more than what he is right now.
39:03I was on the same page. Cause
39:05we're talking about like,
39:05obviously he is vital to their
39:07run defense, but this is a team
39:09that like you mentioned with
39:10Lawrence guy has already shown
39:11that they make this
39:12philosophically be moving on.
39:14And we've heard from players and
39:15coaches that one of the big
39:16emphasis that they had for this
39:18season was having an improved
39:20pass rush. And as good as the
39:21bond got tries against the run,
39:23he gives you almost nothing
39:24on the other end of the
39:25spectrum. So I don't really
39:27understand where the leverage is
39:29for him because it makes no
39:30sense because the other guys
39:32give you both, they give you
39:33pass rush and run defense and
39:34gotcha is more of a one trick
39:36pony. That makes it pretty
39:37tough. Even though he is a rare
39:38body type on the team.
39:39Okay. So like, all right, let's
39:41let, let's look at the bills.
39:42I'll, I'll have a 17 million
39:44dollars a year. All right. Is
39:47gosh, I was getting 10.4. Let.
39:50Um, I don't think that gotcha
39:53is at all of them. No, no. Okay.
39:55All right. So let's, let's put
39:57the, okay, let's put the
39:58difference. Grover Stewart in
40:02Stewart in the coast, 13 million
40:04dollars. It's closer, closer.
40:07Okay. See, right. So that, so
40:09that if, if gosh, I think she's
40:12at all of them, Patriots thinks
40:14he's Grover Stewart. Okay. Yeah.
40:17You're not going to get it and
40:19they can't come to an agreement.
40:22Nothing. I don't know how you
40:23bridge that gap. You can't bridge
40:26that gap. You got to want it. And
40:33I, and I don't blame the pages
40:37for saying things like that. I,
40:39I wouldn't do it if he thinks
40:40he's, if he thinks he's at all
40:42of a walk away. Yeah. Just walk
40:45away. It's like, you can't make
40:46a deal and he's going to be
40:47unhappy about it. Walk away.
40:50And that's, and they've already
40:52shown they're willing to do that
40:53in free agency with Pharaoh
40:54Brown, with Mack Wilson, with
40:55Miles Bryant. Like as much as
40:57they've been rewarding people on
40:58the team that they like, they've
41:00also shown like, no, we have our
41:01price for certain guys, really
41:02role players. I feel like you're
41:04run first player. If you're a
41:06role player, you're not going to
41:07like July to buy is kind of in
41:09between because he is more of an
41:10early down player, but he is
41:12good in coverage. He does give
41:13you some pass rush. So I
41:15understand giving him the
41:16extension, but those other guys,
41:18it's like, no, I understand what
41:19they're doing because those are
41:20just guys who are more
41:21rotational versus like
41:23cornerstones who are consistently
41:24making those impact plays.
41:26Cause again, even gotcha as good
41:27as he is against the run. He's
41:29not Anthony Jennings where
41:30Anthony Jennings is getting you
41:31tackles for loss. He's getting
41:33stuck. It's like the stat sheet
41:34is favorable and gotcha. I even
41:36said in the tweet where he's
41:37like, yeah, a lot of what I do
41:38doesn't show up in the stat
41:39sheet. That's valuable in some
41:41schemes into a certain degree.
41:42But you know, if you're going to
41:44be paying somebody, like you
41:45said, and all of her money, you
41:47got to show up on the statute as
41:48well. And that just might not be
41:49got y'all's game.
41:50Yeah. And you can't, like you
41:52said before, you can't, it's
41:53hard to bridge that difference.
41:54And that's where I think.
41:57That's what a difference is.
41:58I look with Judon, I, I don't,
42:00I don't think it's the
42:02valuation of his play.
42:04I think it's the structure of
42:05the deal that's to hold up.
42:07And that's saying, I think
42:09that's the difference in those
42:10two players.
42:11But Judon is one you think is
42:12going to get done.
42:13I think it's going to get done
42:14because I think it's more about
42:15the structure of the deal than
42:17the valuation of his play.
42:18So it's one of those, it's
42:19really just wait and see.
42:20They got to do the behind the
42:21scenes work, but it's not.
42:23They have until.
42:27They really have until what
42:29the if he's going to hold in
42:32that he could hold in.
42:33All right. But they they get
42:34the July, they like to get
42:35everything done by July 24th.
42:37All right.
42:38So what's what are we less
42:40than a week away?
42:41All right.
42:42We'll see what happens.
42:43I mean, if.
42:46OK, I wouldn't be surprised
42:48they get a deal done this week.
42:49No, but before the 24th,
42:51I'd be surprised they get a deal
42:53done with Gotcha.
42:54I would be surprised.
42:55And I folks, I don't.
42:57Yeah, I'd be surprised because
42:58I think it's more like I said
43:00before, and I hate to repeat
43:00myself. Judon's about the
43:02structure of the deal.
43:03Gotcha is about the valuation of
43:04life. And that's a big
43:05difference.
43:06All right. That's huge because
43:07the way I've been thinking about
43:08it, I'm thinking about the play
43:10and then being worried about that
43:11because of the age and the injury
43:13and all those things.
43:13But that doesn't make sense.
43:14And it may not be that because
43:16he has been such an effective
43:17player. And I understand both
43:19ends of what they're saying.
43:20We know exactly what we're going
43:21to get, but it's really just
43:23in how that's going to work out if
43:24he does want to, like you said,
43:25retire a Patriot.
43:26That makes a ton of sense.
43:28All right. Another one I got for
43:29you. Those are guys like Matt
43:31Judon. We'll put him on the
43:32extension candidates.
43:33Who else do you think on this
43:34Patriots roster is likely to get
43:36extended? Because I'm pretty sure
43:37we're on the same page here.
43:38OK, OK.
43:40I used to say Peppers.
43:42I used to say Peppers.
43:43All right. I am now saying
43:45that he's going to get a
43:46transition time next year.
43:48All right. I still think like
43:50we keep on
43:52bringing up the interior
43:53defensive line, but
43:55Ecklidge makes way much a lot
43:57of sense to get extended during
43:58the season if you let go of
43:59guard shots.
44:01Brandon Schouler.
44:03Is an excellent candidate,
44:05and they would just drive to people
44:06who hate special teams crazy.
44:08I'm sorry to distract you.
44:08Quick question on him.
44:09So can he be extended because he
44:11was undrafted?
44:12Yes. I was thinking in my head,
44:13he's like he was only he's only
44:14been in because he's
44:15undrafted.
44:17You can extend an undrafted play
44:18after two seasons.
44:19You can extend a drafted rookie
44:21after three seasons.
44:22This is why I talk to you.
44:25This is the fine print.
44:26I don't know. OK, thank you.
44:27I've been wanting to mention him
44:28as an extension candidate.
44:29I think like an episode we did a
44:30couple of weeks back, I was like,
44:31wait, is that even an option?
44:32Can they do it?
44:33Yeah, it is an option.
44:34It is an option.
44:35He's sixth on my list.
44:38I had five.
44:39They got three done.
44:41I think they'll get Judon done.
44:43I am less and less hopeful
44:45about Peppers getting done.
44:46I think he's going to get
44:47transition tag.
44:48Well, I would love to be wrong,
44:50but he like see, like if I'm
44:52Peppers, I'm asking for the same
44:54deal as Duggar.
44:55Hmm.
44:56You know, saying, yeah, I think
44:57I'm just I'm just asking the same
44:59way I'm asking my older.
45:01Huh?
45:01He's not even that much older.
45:02Yeah, exactly.
45:04Yeah, he's not around the same age.
45:06I'm asking about the same money
45:07because especially
45:09if we get closer to the end
45:11of this season, we'd have a better
45:13feel of what.
45:15Oh, I think we shouldn't say I
45:16shouldn't say that based on the
45:17hot dogs.
45:19We can guess that the cap
45:21is going to go up.
45:22We just don't know how much say
45:25he should ask.
45:27I think he's as
45:29close against a free agency.
45:30His his value.
45:33Increases.
45:36Do you think with the transition
45:37tag, is that because of how the
45:39safety market looks, where you
45:40have great players like Justin
45:42Simmons who are still with free
45:43agents because they're on the
45:44wrong side?
45:45Like twenty five is that exactly.
45:47And I figured I should have
45:48learned.
45:50I made a mistake in thinking that
45:52I ruled out
45:54the franchise tag for Duggar.
45:56All right.
45:56But I should have thought about
45:58the transition tag.
46:00I know more
46:01and more about foot for Duggar
46:03because, man, they are.
46:05I should have said, well, they got
46:06a lot of cap space.
46:07I'm saying, why not?
46:09The transition tag, you're
46:11saying, so why not?
46:12And.
46:14Who else on this team who's going
46:16to be a free agent?
46:18Besides us, Uche
46:20blows up that you would want
46:22to put put a tag on.
46:23All right.
46:27Yeah, so I should I should
46:28have in hindsight,
46:30I should have thought more about the
46:32transition tag for Duggar
46:34that I did
46:36because once I dismissed the
46:37French franchise tag,
46:39I kind of also dismissed
46:41dismissed the transition tag and
46:42they should have done it.
46:43I should have thought more about
46:44that.
46:45But I think we're on the same page
46:47score. Now that I know it's
46:47possible, I would get there.
46:49I looked at the tweet that I sent
46:51out after remandering Stevenson got
46:52extended. That was another one.
46:54I'm glad we were both on the same
46:55page. That was probably going to
46:56happen when I got Peppers, Judon
46:58and then scores my guys.
46:59The rest, I think they've done a
47:00pretty bang up job.
47:01The other guys, it's more like
47:03like Jonathan Jones.
47:04I wish I could say he's one.
47:05But with the injuries, I don't
47:07even know if he's going to play
47:07past the season.
47:08He might just want to enjoy his
47:10family, enjoy his flying and maybe
47:12walk away from football.
47:13But I would 100 percent agree with
47:15the guys you got there.
47:16All right. Now, moving a bit into
47:17the future, this might be kind of
47:19out there, but I'm curious, is
47:20it too soon to think about what a
47:22potential Drake extension
47:23could look like? Now, obviously
47:24with the cap, it's probably going
47:26to keep going up, although with
47:27that whole like lawsuit and
47:28everything, we don't know how the
47:30lawsuit will affect it.
47:31It won't be the cap.
47:33The cap is based on revenues, not
47:34expenses.
47:35OK, OK.
47:37So what could a potential Drake
47:39May extension look like?
47:40Do you tell me what it's going to
47:41be? Tell me what is going to be
47:43the next three years?
47:44What is it? Is there going to be
47:45a multi time?
47:47Is he in the next three years
47:49will be a multiple pro bowler,
47:51a multiple all pro?
47:53You mean the deal
47:56any player is going to get is based
47:58not only what you could do for me
48:00in the future, but based on what
48:01he's done.
48:02All right.
48:03If he shows up and
48:05he plays at an elite level
48:08and the cap keeps going up.
48:10I wouldn't be surprised
48:13that his first deal.
48:15Is like say for
48:17five years. All right.
48:19I wouldn't be surprised that
48:20number, this total number is
48:22going to be more money than Tom
48:23Brady made in his career as a
48:25patriot.
48:28That's because that's because the
48:30cap was so small.
48:31Right, right.
48:32You're saying, right.
48:33But it wouldn't surprise
48:36me if they're getting fifty five.
48:38Right.
48:39And in three years and the cap
48:40keeps going up.
48:42It's a possibility.
48:43Like if he and he plays well,
48:45let's say that he's getting like
48:46a sixty five, seventy million
48:48dollar a year contract.
48:49I'm saying it's not it's
48:51possible.
48:52I'm like, you know, saying that
48:53if it keeps on going up crazy,
48:55like thirty million dollars a
48:56year just to keep up with
48:58inflation, you know,
48:59say I would say I wouldn't get a
49:01four hundred million dollars.
49:02Is that going to be the range you
49:03think?
49:04I don't know.
49:04I don't know what the cap is
49:05going to be, but I like it also
49:07depends on how well he plays.
49:09I mean, like he stinks.
49:10I mean, even if he's just good,
49:13he's not getting top of the
49:14market thing.
49:15I'm like, I'm just sorry.
49:16I think I know as much as.
49:21Me, I don't see how
49:23the NFL would ever agree to it
49:25during the middle of a CBA
49:27to limit what quarterbacks make.
49:29All right.
49:30And this currency doesn't end
49:32until 20, 20, 30.
49:33All right.
49:33So there's a chance that,
49:36you know.
49:37That by there's not going to be
49:39a limit on how much QB is going
49:41to make, so we go, let's go to
49:4380, let's go to two, three,
49:46ten, three,
49:49you know, three thirty five.
49:52Holy cow.
49:52So when he becomes an after
49:54three years, you're talking
49:56the cap might be around three
49:58fifty.
49:59All right.
50:00Holy.
50:01Thank you.
50:03OK, and the quarterbacks
50:06are making 20 percent of the cap.
50:08Yeah.
50:08Oh, yeah.
50:09Yeah.
50:09They want to limit to maybe 22.
50:12So let's just do 20 percent
50:13to keep it simple, folks.
50:14All right.
50:15Twenty percent of three hundred
50:16fifty million is 70 million
50:17dollars a year.
50:19Jesus Christ.
50:23OK, like, you know,
50:25they like that.
50:28You can't.
50:28So that's why, like you said,
50:31because it's that number
50:32is so large.
50:35It's incredible to think of.
50:37Literally unfathomable.
50:39Huh?
50:40Yeah, unfathomable.
50:41Yeah, yeah.
50:42It's like he has.
50:43I mean, like.
50:46Like.
50:48The.
50:50Beers have a bigger problem
50:52because they got a number one,
50:54you know, saying the higher you
50:55get, so it's like, all right.
50:57So even if.
51:00One of these three players
51:01is going to probably get
51:0270 million dollars a year.
51:03You know, Williams,
51:05Daniels, Omeg.
51:06Yeah, you got to figure
51:07the odds are one of them.
51:08At least one.
51:09Yeah, at least one.
51:10You know, as a Patriots fan,
51:12you're hoping it's me.
51:16Now, OK.
51:17Now, while we're on the topic
51:19of quarterbacks and big money,
51:20we're going to go outside
51:21the Patriots real quick.
51:22Perspective, J.J. McCarthy
51:24and his holdout
51:25trying to get a deal.
51:27OK, OK.
51:27It's not a holdup.
51:28He hasn't signed a contract.
51:29Right.
51:30That's true.
51:30OK, so let's let's not
51:32call the holdup.
51:32He's he's he has yet
51:34to sign a deal.
51:35All right.
51:36He's not withholding his services
51:37because he has no services
51:38to withhold
51:39because he hasn't signed a deal.
51:40What what J.J.
51:42McCarthy's holdup is,
51:44as he's saying,
51:44I'm a quarterback.
51:46All right.
51:47I want to get my signing bonus
51:49all in one one payment.
51:52That's what has happened
51:53at the top of the at the market
51:55until this year.
51:58Drake, Drake may
51:59got all of his 20 million
52:00dollar plus signing
52:01boats and all in one payment.
52:02All right.
52:03Michael Penix, who was drafted
52:05eight, got all of his signing
52:06bonus in one payment.
52:07J.J. McCarthy says I was 10.
52:10I'm a quarterback.
52:11I know that's not what you've
52:12done in the past
52:13for other players,
52:14but I'm a quarterback.
52:14We're special.
52:15I just want that.
52:17His deal.
52:18That's all he's asking for.
52:19OK, he's he's just asking
52:21to get the signing
52:21both and all in one payment.
52:24And because you'd ask him
52:26the DM about fully get his deal.
52:28I already know it's going to be
52:29for it's going to be four years
52:30for the guarantee,
52:31because that's what happens
52:32for everyone who's
52:33drafted in the first round.
52:34All right.
52:36So imagine Minnesota.
52:39You drafted J.J. McCarthy.
52:42All right.
52:43And yet you're arguing
52:45about when you're going to pay
52:46the signing bonus.
52:47Why do you do?
52:48Why is it?
52:49Why does it matter?
52:50It's literally like
52:51why are you doing this?
52:52Why are you arguing about
52:53a delay of payment?
52:55Just just just giving the money.
52:57I'm like, you don't want
52:58to set the precedent.
52:59You don't want to be trapped.
53:00Are you going to draft another guy?
53:02Right.
53:02You should have a quarterback.
53:04Yeah, right.
53:05If you're worried about precedent,
53:06it's telling the J.J. McCarthy
53:08stinks.
53:08He's just saying
53:10that's what that's what comes.
53:11That's why you saying this.
53:13You're saying you have
53:14no faith in him.
53:15Yeah.
53:15You know, saying so just sign
53:17that you just make it go easy.
53:18Like, I don't like.
53:19So there's three
53:20unsigned draft picks, right?
53:22McCarthy's got the signing bonus.
53:25Seventeen and 18
53:27is probably about when they want the
53:31the salaries in the future
53:32years, if there's going to be salaries
53:34or roster bonus at training camp.
53:36That's it.
53:37Like this, like somebody
53:38that asked me on Twitter,
53:39why are they still unsigned players?
53:41The deal should be done.
53:42And they're absolutely correct.
53:44All these deals like I have
53:47only with the big money deals,
53:49I can see why teams want to wait
53:51on paying the top.
53:52But, you know, number one,
53:54the blah, blah, blah,
53:55because they get such sign
53:56signing bonus.
53:57You might as well hold on to the money
53:58as much as you can
53:58earn interest on it.
53:59All right.
54:02But everybody, everybody else
54:03should be signed like.
54:05Right away, like that's like
54:07literally the second Friday
54:09after the draft over
54:11over 100 players were signed.
54:13And because the deals are done,
54:16so easy to do that, you're choosing
54:20the Vikings, the Bengals
54:22and choosing not to sign the blades
54:25because of whatever
54:26because they decided
54:27it's important to them.
54:30That's why I ask for your perspective,
54:32because it looks like,
54:33oh, why is like JJ being difficult?
54:35But it makes more sense.
54:36This is also why you
54:37you should usually side
54:38with the players
54:38and not the organization.
54:40But Miguel, yes.
54:42Oh, you got anything else?
54:43No, no. Yes.
54:44I'm a big time player thing.
54:46So, yeah, I know.
54:47We're on the same page about that.
54:49Very rarely.
54:49You're going to see us
54:50siding with billionaires.
54:51But Miguel, it's always awesome
54:53getting a perspective.
54:54But I appreciate you so much.
54:56Before I let you go,
54:57please let the people know
54:58where they can find you.
54:59What great stuff
55:00you got coming down the pipeline
55:01that we should all be looking out.
55:02OK, I'll be I'm always on
55:04Twitter at Pats Cap.
55:05You hopefully, hopefully
55:07in a couple of weeks,
55:08the Patriots will keep me busy
55:09with some more extensions.
55:11I will be incredibly busy.
55:15The roster cut down day.
55:17So feel say a prayer for me
55:18because they go from one
55:20that's a multiple roster.
55:22I just have one.
55:26But it's going to be
55:28other than that, I look,
55:29I'm trying to decide
55:31decide what I'm going to
55:32hope to see you guys at training camp.
55:35I'm just trying to decide
55:37when I can take the day off
55:39because work has been crazy.
55:41But other than that,
55:43I I'm looking forward to the season.
55:45I'm looking forward to seeing
55:47Drake May look at seeing the scenes
55:49of Popcorn Popcorn with
55:51Baker and hopefully.
55:55I hope to draft the Mario Douglas
55:58in my fantasy football league.
56:00I don't think anybody.
56:01I'm in the SP.
56:02I'm in the Scott
56:02Fishbowl 14 league thing.
56:05And some of those
56:06I follow most of the guys in there,
56:07but I don't think
56:08they can listen to this podcast.
56:09So, yes, I'm going to try to get
56:10the Mario Douglas
56:11and later drown to the draft.
56:15Fingers crossed for you, buddy.
56:16Again, thank you so much.
56:18Always a pleasure.
56:19And thank you all,
56:20as always, for watching.
56:21Now, take care of yourselves.
56:23Take care of each other.
56:24We will see you next time.
56:25Peace, y'all.
