00:00So it sleeps 10, but the most we've had out is 45.
00:06Now that's what I call a party!
00:09A lot of memorable moments.
00:11Yeah, right.
00:13Jackie and Dan devised ingenious, yet simple strategies
00:17so that four generations could live off the grid.
00:20We get power from solar cells,
00:23and then we have an inverter charger that converts it,
00:26and when you leave them on all week long,
00:29they really charge up a big bank of batteries,
00:31and you can bleed that down over your three-day weekend
00:34to enjoy life here on the lighthouse.
00:37The lighthouse's water source is also elegantly simple.
00:41The whole place is a rain collector,
00:43so everything runs into gutters at the edge.
00:46We have all the water we ever want.
00:48We use that water for washing dishes,
00:50for flushing the toilet, for showering.
00:52But when you flush it, it adds additional salt water to it,
00:56and then it's able to send electric charge through the system,
01:00and then that chemically converts it to chlorine,
01:03and that disinfects any of your waste.
01:06And it's Coast Guard-approved.
01:08It's a marine sanitation device.
01:10We call it our $2,000 flush.
