00:00Sustainability, the role of GNL and GPL in the ecological transition, the themes at the
00:17center of the Assogas Liquidi Assembly Climate, June 2024, the warmest ever on a global level
00:26The technological and industrial leadership of Italy and the importance of GPL and GNL in the
00:33ecological transition, these themes at the center of the Assogas Liquidi Assembly FederChimica,
00:38entitled Sustainability of Liquefied Gases in New European Horizons, a moment of
00:43comparison that has been held at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy. In the light of the
00:48renewal of European institutions, which will soon have to deal with important
00:52changes in terms of energy, environment and industry, with the aim of increasing the importance of the use
00:57of alternative fuels, increasingly of bio and renewable origin, the Italian companies of GPL and GNL
01:03are ready for the challenge. The questions are various. The first, the simplest, is that of the
01:08conferment for 2025 and the following years of the measure on the retrofit of GPL vehicles,
01:13because it is a measure that has started three weeks ago and is giving excellent results and a
01:18great interest from consumers. Then there is, instead, in a broader dimension, there is a
01:25need on the part of Italian politics to represent the energy need of our
01:31consumers and our small businesses. The need, that is, to come to confirm as an approach
01:38for the future, the approach of technological neutrality, according to which therefore users
01:43can choose from different forms of energy, the most useful and appropriate ones, and therefore
01:49be able to choose between our products, GPL and GNL, electricity or a series of other
01:57vectors, according to those that are the specific needs and utilities of the consumer.
02:03However, we do not want to remain on the market as we are today, but we want to participate in a
02:08process of decarbonization and therefore have available GPL and GNL molecules,
02:15gradually, over time, increasingly of renewable origin, to do this thing. However, our companies
02:20are investing in research and development, they are spending money, and we need
02:25this activity to be tutored by Italian politics and above all by the community, both from a
02:30regulatory point of view, therefore giving an enabling perspective, and from an economic point of view,
02:35because this research will become more and more expensive, the implementation of the first
02:41systems will be very expensive, and therefore we will need to be accompanied not only from a
02:46political and regulatory point of view, but also from a financial point of view.
02:51The Assembly has also been an opportunity to dialogue with the institutions, in particular
02:55with the Ministry of Business of Made in Italy, in order to reiterate the importance of some
02:59measures put in place, such as the bonus decree and the need to review the
03:04EU policies, which include the banning of new endothermic cars in 2035 and the new
03:09gas heaters in 2040.
03:11We are absolutely convinced, as are our companies and also our citizens, of the need for Europe
03:19to review times and modalities for the ecological transition, to combine the environmental sustainability
03:29that we all believe in with the economic, productive and social sustainability of the European system.
03:38Also in the car incentives plan, which is in force, we have decided to allocate resources
03:44also to liquid gas, which is certainly an important and significant road on which we must
03:51direct our Europe.
03:542024 marks another climatic record.
03:57The month of June was warmer globally than any other previous June, and the thirteenth
04:03hottest month in a row for the respective month of the year, as evidenced by Copernicus'
04:08service for climate change.
04:10In detail, June recorded an average temperature of 16.66 ° C, 0.67 ° C above the average
04:18of the period between 1991 and 2020 for the month of June, and 0.14 ° C above the previous
04:25maximum established in June 2023.
04:28Not only that, the month exceeded 1.5 ° C, the estimated average of June for the period
04:33of pre-industrial reference, thus becoming the twelfth consecutive month to reach or
04:39exceed the threshold of 1.5 ° C indicated by the Paris Accords.
04:43According to Carlo Buontempo, director of the service for climate change of Copernicus,
04:48it is something more than a statistical strangeness that highlights an important and continuous
04:53change of our climate.
04:55Even if this specific series of extreme events will end at a certain point, we are destined
05:00to see new breaking records as the climate continues to warm up.
05:05This is inevitable, unless we stop adding greenhouse gas to the atmosphere and oceans.
05:11Returning to the numbers that are based for the most part on the ERA-5 set, the average
05:17global temperature of the last 12 months, July 2023-June 2024, is the highest ever recorded
05:23with 0.76 ° C above the average for the period between 1991 and 2020, and 1.64 ° C above
05:33the pre-industrial average of the period between 1850 and 1900.
05:38For Europe it was the warmest second June.
