00:00:00I am joined by Robert Griffin III, James White, Field, Yates, Mina Kimes.
00:00:26All right.
00:00:27Basically, we're going to look at second and two, one of the Patriots' first offensive
00:00:30plays.
00:00:31All right.
00:00:32On that note, we're underway here, a live crossover edition of Patriots Beating Patriots
00:00:41Daily.
00:00:42Alex Barth, Brian Hines, Taylor Kiles, Mike Kadlik.
00:00:45We are coming to you, for those who are watching this recorded, and I feel like it's important
00:00:50we date and time these shows at this point, four o'clock on Tuesday.
00:00:54We will touch on the latest Brandon Ayuk rumors, but the reality is, if you're watching
00:00:59this prerecorded, they may not be the latest rumors at that point, because this thing's
00:01:02moving quickly.
00:01:03We'll do that at the end of the show, give more time to develop, so we're even less filled
00:01:07in.
00:01:08I want to start with practice today.
00:01:09Really, the last couple of days, as we're doing these at the end of each block of practices,
00:01:13I think it's fair to say, guys, the dog days of camp are over.
00:01:16That's kind of what I look at at this window.
00:01:17Yeah, we're all in long sleeves now.
00:01:19Well, I mean, these guys can't handle a little bit of rain.
00:01:23These two New Englanders, Taylor, I guess you're-
00:01:25I spent some time in L.A.
00:01:26You were in L.A.
00:01:27I'll give you a pass.
00:01:28These two guys, New Englanders, they're in raincoats, like 70 degrees out, not raining,
00:01:31we're undercover, so rip them in the chat all you want.
00:01:35But the dog days of camp are over at this point, with the first preseason game next
00:01:39up on the schedule on Thursday, and it'll basically be game weeks from here on out.
00:01:44I want to start with Drake May.
00:01:45I thought today was one of his better practices of camp.
00:01:47Struggled a little bit late in the one minute drill, we can get to that, but when I watched
00:01:51him today for most of practice, the one word I kept coming back to was comfortable.
00:01:56I think today was the first day that he really looked comfortable, that he was really in
00:02:00a rhythm, and that he was really able to kind of settle in and do what he does best.
00:02:06Brian, we'll start with you.
00:02:07Did you feel the same way?
00:02:08Yeah.
00:02:09I was going to say confident, decisive, so kind of right along with you.
00:02:12I thought he was really good today, starting in seven on sevens in the red area.
00:02:17He's still very impressive in the red area, which I guess kind of translates from his
00:02:20North Carolina film, but back-to-back, perfectly placed back pylon fades to Kayshawn Booty
00:02:26and then Jaheim Bell.
00:02:27Then in 11s, he had a really nice drive, kind of drove the field, stalled at the end probably
00:02:31due to some pressure, but just kind of taking profits, taking what the defense gave him,
00:02:35a couple short completions, three to Jalen Rager, I think, so it looked sharp there.
00:02:39And then the last one minute drill, which kind of fell off the rails, but wasn't necessarily
00:02:44his fault.
00:02:45We can get into that.
00:02:46Which we'll get into, but yeah, I thought more confident, more decisive.
00:02:49I think Drake May is kind of stacking some good days.
00:02:51Taylor?
00:02:52I think the same, and I think the comfort was a lot because this was one of the days
00:02:55where the offensive line wasn't the problem.
00:02:57Instead, again, we'll get into it later, but it was more the pass catchers, actually.
00:03:01And it's starting to kind of get in my head of, okay, when are we going to give Drake
00:03:04May the opportunity to maybe get some reps with the ones?
00:03:07Because I think now we've consistently seen, while he was more comfortable than he's been
00:03:11recently, and I think throughout practice, this has continued a trend where ever since
00:03:16that second padded practice, he looks good.
00:03:18The accuracy's been on point.
00:03:19This was maybe his most accurate practice, where I felt like ball placement was good
00:03:23throughout.
00:03:24And then, you know, a little bit of faltering later on.
00:03:27Don't think it was totally on him, but I really liked what I saw today from Drake.
00:03:30Yeah, I think I like how you mentioned the offensive line sort of not being the problem
00:03:33today.
00:03:34I feel like that's where it sort of started and ended, where his processing has sped up
00:03:37a little bit.
00:03:38And you see him, we talked about it a lot yesterday on our live show, where he's scrambling
00:03:40a ton.
00:03:41You didn't see a lot of that today because you saw he was being decisive with the football.
00:03:45It just hit off guys' hands and turned into, again, that interception in one-minute drill.
00:03:49And you're right, I think we're going to see him with the ones a little bit more.
00:03:53I think we'll probably get a look at that a little bit on Thursday in the preseason
00:03:57game.
00:03:58I don't know if he'll be out there with the normal, I guess, offensive linemen ones.
00:04:03We'll see how that whole rotation goes, because I'm sure we'll get to all the injuries that
00:04:06we're sort of seeing here.
00:04:08But at the end of the day, I think he's looking more comfortable.
00:04:11He's putting the ball in the right place.
00:04:13It's just, again, a couple of drops here and there, and hopefully we get to see him
00:04:17with at least the one receivers on Thursday and sort of see the confidence continue to
00:04:21go.
00:04:22Because you're right, he is on a better track for sure.
00:04:23Yeah, and I think what really helped, you mentioned that he's still at that second offensive
00:04:25line, but the true second offensive line had kind of been with the top unit the last few
00:04:30days with guys in and out of the lineup.
00:04:31And he's working with Nick Leverett today, who actually has been consistent and legitimate
00:04:36center except for in that one-minute drill, which I promise we'll get to.
00:04:39We keep teasing that.
00:04:40He had Cade Wallace with him as well.
00:04:41It was crazy.
00:04:43So let's get to that again.
00:04:45He's good in the red zone, good in full field 11s.
00:04:48They go at the end of practice into a one-minute situation.
00:04:52Jacoby Brissette went first.
00:04:54He started off on a low note, gets back behind the sticks.
00:04:58I think there was a false start penalty, pushed him back.
00:05:00Fourth and long, he hits K.J. Osborne over the middle.
00:05:02Great contested catch by Osborne over two defenders.
00:05:06Couldn't really move the ball much beyond that.
00:05:08Chad Ryland misses a 53-yard field goal wide left to close it.
00:05:11Drake May comes up.
00:05:12First play, he tests a tight, tight window to Javon Baker on an out route.
00:05:18And I don't know if it was Baker's hands that popped it up or if the defender got a hand
00:05:23in there, but the ball pops up in the air and Marcellus Dial is right there, makes the
00:05:28catch for the interception.
00:05:29I didn't so much have a problem with the throw as I did the decision.
00:05:33I get it's practice.
00:05:34You want to test things.
00:05:35It's a really tight window to test.
00:05:37Maybe could he have gone elsewhere.
00:05:38So they, you know, re-rack it to give him another chance after it being just one play.
00:05:42And he goes three and out.
00:05:43He had a miss.
00:05:45There was a bad snap by Antonio Mafia to delay a game.
00:05:47It was just kind of all over the place.
00:05:49He continues to struggle in these more live game situations.
00:05:52That's why I think Thursday is such a big test.
00:05:54And as we talk about him getting more reps with the ones, I think we see now that he's
00:05:59starting to become more comfortable.
00:06:01It's working for him in the red zone.
00:06:03He's doing better in full field.
00:06:05When that clock starts ticking, he's in the one or two minute.
00:06:07It's more live.
00:06:08He starts to struggle.
00:06:10Thursday to me, I think maybe it's mischaracterized at times and there's a give and a take here,
00:06:15right?
00:06:16You want to see him play up to the level where he's, you know, he's on par with the other
00:06:24ones and you feel like he's going to give them an opportunity or they're going to give
00:06:27him an opportunity, but he has to give them an opportunity.
00:06:30It's something that needs to be earned.
00:06:31And I think Thursday night is how Drake May earns more reps with the ones.
00:06:35And if he has a good performance Thursday night, then you start talking about, okay,
00:06:39well, you got a joint practice with the Eagles.
00:06:41This is a really good chance to evaluate his progress in that regard.
00:06:44You go into that second preseason game, does he get more of a chance with them?
00:06:47That's what I think Thursday is about for Drake May.
00:06:49Can he prove he'll have a better line?
00:06:51Like you said, he should get some chances with better receivers.
00:06:55Given that, can he prove that he has earned an opportunity to work with what is truly
00:07:00the first team offense on a more regular basis in practice and then moving forward
00:07:04in the joint practice and preseason games?
00:07:07So do you think it's, do you think he, so you say he has to earn it, do you think he
00:07:11has to earn it or do you think they should kind of give it to him because he's your number
00:07:14three pick?
00:07:15It's a give and take.
00:07:16It's a give and take.
00:07:17So when you put it that way, it's not about them giving it to him, right?
00:07:21It's about, maybe earned is the wrong word, but if he's not ready, you don't want to put
00:07:27him in there.
00:07:29The last thing they can do, and I've talked about this, his progress needs to dictate
00:07:35their timeline.
00:07:36You can't have your timeline dictate it and hope his progress catches up.
00:07:40So I guess when I say earn those reps, I mean show that he's ready for that next stage of
00:07:45the progress, Taylor.
00:07:47And to add to that, I feel like, you know, obviously you don't want to rush him out there,
00:07:50but there are still things where operationally and in terms of his energy, clearly he's still
00:07:55very much behind.
00:07:56Like you've got it in scouting reports before any of this happened where they said, yeah,
00:07:59he may take a year before he's really comfortable and can lead an offense.
00:08:03And if you looked at the Mic'd Up segment, the Patriots released with Jacoby Bursette,
00:08:06really great content, period.
00:08:08But you saw Jacoby Bursette is comfortable.
00:08:10He's clearly the leader of this offense, whereas Drake May, I think he understands he's not
00:08:14quite there yet.
00:08:15You haven't really seen where, if you look at Drake May Mic'd Up with UNC, very different
00:08:19energy.
00:08:20He clearly is a leader of that program.
00:08:21He talks to everybody.
00:08:22He's buddy-buddy with everybody.
00:08:24He's still getting in the mix here, so I don't think he's ready to really get the keys from
00:08:27Jacoby Bursette.
00:08:28And as we've mentioned in pretty much every practice, at some point you do see the difference
00:08:31in operation, whether it's, you know, pre-snap penalties, which have happened for both units,
00:08:36not really getting things going in timely fashion.
00:08:38I think those are the areas where like those are some bare, maybe not leadership thing
00:08:43that comes with experience, but in terms of getting everybody on the same page, getting
00:08:46the plays done in the way that Jacoby Bursette can, there's a gap there.
00:08:50So while I'd like to see, hey, can he ball with the top defense and look good with the
00:08:53starting players, I also want him to just be able to get to the line of scrimmage efficiently
00:08:58and snap the ball without there being issues.
00:08:59Brian, what's at stake for Drake May Thursday night?
00:09:02I think he said everything.
00:09:04His career is on the line.
00:09:07Yeah, I think, you know, I was ready to give him reps with the quote-unquote starters after
00:09:12the first block of practices.
00:09:13You were ready to give him reps with the starters after they drafted him.
00:09:15That's true.
00:09:16Before they drafted him.
00:09:17Week 18 last year.
00:09:18I think we mentioned that after the first preseason game is when we kind of saw Mac
00:09:23do that a few years ago.
00:09:25So yeah, this could be the start where if he goes out and again, not earns it.
00:09:28I think he's showed that he deserves them.
00:09:30And now if he goes out there and we mentioned the no huddle and the hurry up situations,
00:09:35maybe he has a really good hurry up situation, you know, Thursday night and just again, not
00:09:40earn, but just deserve more of those snaps with the number ones.
00:09:42All right.
00:09:43So Gerard Mayo said before practice today, the plan right now when he left Wiggle Room
00:09:46for it to change.
00:09:47But the plan right now is for all four quarterbacks to play.
00:09:51You're making the decision.
00:09:52How do you break up the snaps?
00:09:54Well, Jacoby Brissett got a ton of run today, so he's expected to start, but maybe that's
00:09:59just for a series or two.
00:10:01And then I would say Drake May, maybe the rest of the first half, maybe into the third
00:10:06quarter, like maybe give him the first drive coming out of halftime to get that experience.
00:10:10And then you're kind of Bailey Zappi, Joe Milton range from that point on Taylor.
00:10:15I'm on the exact same page.
00:10:17So I guess we'll just go a little deeper into how exactly maybe the third quarter, third
00:10:20and fourth quarterback reps are going to split up.
00:10:22That's what's going to be most interesting for me.
00:10:24They've given Bailey Zappi some moments like in warm ups where there's some clear deference
00:10:28to the veteran where they'll let Bailey Zappi be the second quarterback during warm ups.
00:10:32And then you don't see it again when things actually get competitive in teamwork.
00:10:35So maybe we see, you know, Bailey Zappi open up the third quarter or something like that,
00:10:39open up the second half, and then we have Joe Milton putting things away and it changes
00:10:43throughout the course of the preseason.
00:10:44I do feel like at least with this first game, it's going to be Zappi out there first and
00:10:47then Joe Milton maybe in the fourth quarter, like after a couple of drives for Zappi.
00:10:51I'll just add to the beginning of the game.
00:10:53I don't think Brissette should be out there for long at all.
00:10:56One drive, get a little comfortable, see what you have, because again, this plan for Drake
00:11:00May is work behind Jacoby Brissette, let Jacoby Brissette ease the Patriots offense into the
00:11:06season where if you, God forbid, lose Jacoby on, you know, a second or third drive, what
00:11:11have you, to some freaking, again, I don't want to speak that into existence.
00:11:14Something happens, then you kind of have to revamp this whole thing and figure out, are
00:11:18we going to go with Drake May early, or are we going to try and get Bailey Zappi ready
00:11:21to be this, like there's a lot of, you know, there would be a pretty shitty trickle-down
00:11:25to happen if Brissette were to get hurt somewhere in the preseason.
00:11:27He's so important to Drake May's development and getting them into the season.
00:11:30I don't want to risk it.
00:11:31We've seen them do this in the past.
00:11:32I think Brissette gets a couple of drives just to go through the rhythms, but they'll
00:11:36probably be run heavy to avoid the situation you're laying out.
00:11:40So I think Brissette gets a couple of drives because I think this is all we're going to
00:11:45see him in the preseason.
00:11:46Next week you have a joint practice, and we're getting, a lot of this is guessing.
00:11:50Under Bill, I can tell you exactly how this would go, because I saw him run this thing
00:11:53for 20 years.
00:11:55Now, I would assume Brissette doesn't practice next week with the joint practices, so assuming,
00:11:59and he's not, the third preseason game is the new fourth preseason game.
00:12:02So assuming this is it for Jacoby Brissette, two, maybe three drives, Drake May comes in
00:12:07either at the very end of the first quarter or in the second quarter.
00:12:10The question to me, and this may be decided live, this may not be, and it should be decided
00:12:16live and not ahead of time.
00:12:19Does he come back out after the half?
00:12:21Bill Belichick used to talk a lot about this.
00:12:22There's tremendous value in going through that process of going into the half, meeting
00:12:28with the coaches, figuring out the adjustments, going out and executing them.
00:12:32Ideally, I think Drake May plays second quarter, goes through that process at the turn, comes
00:12:37back out one or two drives in the third quarter, and then you see to Zappi and then Milton.
00:12:42The problem is, if they can't get it blocked, and if you can't protect him, and no, you
00:12:49don't have to worry about blocking Brian Burns, I know I said that on the Sports Hub show
00:12:52earlier, brain fart, he got traded.
00:12:56Who's the other defensive tackle?
00:12:57Derek Brown.
00:12:58Derek Brown, right?
00:12:59If you can't block him, if you can't get this thing blocked, you can't risk him getting
00:13:03hurt.
00:13:05I think that's going to dictate exactly how much Drake May plays.
00:13:07I also think of the, not for this game, I guess this is more for against the Eagles,
00:13:10but I think of the Packers last year, where they did have joint practices, they were intense,
00:13:15they went two days, and we still saw Mac Jones in the starting offense get a couple reps
00:13:19in there.
00:13:20Also, I don't think this offense, who knows where it's going to be there, but it's hard
00:13:24to get worse than the offensive line they put out there last year, and how bad things
00:13:27got, so I feel like that Packers game gives us a better idea.
00:13:30I also think there's going to be more game planning against the Eagles, because Jarod
00:13:33May was very clear, this is not about game planning, this is purely fundamentals.
00:13:37I think maybe, like you mentioned, third quarter, you see Jacoby Bursette get out there just
00:13:43to kind of get all those guys pulled and see what they can do, but this game I really feel
00:13:46like it's going to be super straightforward.
00:13:49One drive for Jacoby Bursette, if it's successful, if it's not, and they go three and out, maybe
00:13:52you see him back out there again.
00:13:53A little niche question here.
00:13:55Who is the third quarterback?
00:13:56Bailey Zappi?
00:13:57I think it's Zappi.
00:13:58Taylor mentioned the deference to the veteran.
00:14:00Oh, in the game, yeah.
00:14:02I think in order, it's Zappi.
00:14:04I think it may be some of what we've seen in practice.
00:14:06In order, it's Zappi.
00:14:07Who ends up with more reps?
00:14:08I think it's going to be Milton.
00:14:09I think Zappi may only get a drive or two.
00:14:11It may just be, you know, let's say Milton does make the turn, or sorry, let's say May
00:14:16does make the turn.
00:14:17All right, so he plays one or two drives in the third, there's going to be one or two
00:14:20more, that's Zappi, and then Milton gets the whole fourth.
00:14:22I think it would be something like that.
00:14:24All right, that's a lot on the quarterbacks.
00:14:26Let's pause, pay the bills real quick, we'll come back, we'll talk about some other key
00:14:29points on the offense heading into Thursday night.

00:15:44Patriots Beat Patriots Daily Crossover.
00:15:46Alex Barth, Brian Hines, Taylor Kiles, Mike Kavlik.
00:15:49Just touched on the quarterbacks.
00:15:50Let's get to, what do you guys want to do first?
00:15:52Offensive line or receivers?
00:15:54Oh, offensive line.
00:15:55Alright.
00:15:56Who the hell is going to be the offensive line?
00:15:59In week one of the preseason?
00:16:00No, I'm saying, like, there's been so many moving pieces, and we saw more today.
00:16:03Siddy So wasn't involved.
00:16:05Michael Jordan mixed in there at guard.
00:16:07I think there were a couple other guys, right, that mixed in at guard.
00:16:09Was it just Jordan with the top unit?
00:16:10I think it was Michael Jordan exclusively with left guard, yeah.
00:16:12Alright.
00:16:13Tarheels.
00:16:14I'm gone.
00:16:15Obviously the other Michael Jordan.
00:16:17Gerard Mayo has talked about, and he's said this multiple times, that the cutoff to decide,
00:16:24like, this is going to be our offensive line to start the season is the second preseason game.
00:16:28I know we're talking a lot about the first, but that second preseason game isn't that far away.
00:16:33You have one game and two practices, essentially, or three practices to get this thing figured out.
00:16:37So you have to figure the guys that get an opportunity in this game.
00:16:40You know, Shook's core four will be a factor.
00:16:42He's hurt, right?
00:16:43But this is a big opportunity.
00:16:45It's kind of the chance before the chance to try out the line.
00:16:49We've seen Caden Wallace's role diminished.
00:16:51A lot of moving pieces at guard.
00:16:53Who should be the starting five on Thursday night?
00:16:58Well, Vardarian Lowe has been the left tackle the last five practices now.
00:17:02So I would be surprised if he's not at left.
00:17:05And then you saw Michael Jordan first up at left today.
00:17:08I would doubt David Andrews plays, so I'd go Nick Leverett.
00:17:11I doubt Mike Unwinu plays, so Leighton Robinson's probably next up.
00:17:15And then Calvin Anderson has been the right tackle.
00:17:17So that would be my left to right because Caden Wallace is with the second unit.
00:17:22Shook's core four is hurt, so he's not going to play.
00:17:25And then City Soul limited, David Andrews, Mike Unwinu, veterans.
00:17:30I would go Lowe, Michael Jordan, Nick Leverett, Leighton Robinson, Calvin Anderson.
00:17:35So potentially zero starters from what we think is their best five.
00:17:39You've had so many starters go out with injuries, right?
00:17:42Okora four, missing time.
00:17:45Obviously, Caden Wallace, something happened with him today.
00:17:48He comes back out there.
00:17:49But Calvin Anderson gets rolled up on the other day.
00:17:51He hurts his ankle.
00:17:52So I wonder if that's why City Soul wasn't out there today
00:17:55because we're getting ready.
00:17:56We're trying to get these guys ready for this preseason game on Thursday.
00:18:00We're going to put Michael Jordan out there and see what we have there.
00:18:02So I'm with you.
00:18:03I don't really see a reason to put out many of the starters.
00:18:06But then again, you want to see what Drake May can do.
00:18:08Right.
00:18:09If that's the starting five, what's the group with May?
00:18:12Or does that group just play 45 minutes total?
00:18:15I'm a little worried they're behind schedule on the offensive line.
00:18:18I mean, yeah, these are crucial padded practices.
00:18:21There's not a whole lot of days they get to do their job in the trenches.
00:18:24And this is a day where I will say Vidarian Lowe has not looked bad at left tackle.
00:18:29I've said it so many times.
00:18:30I think that's where he's most comfortable.
00:18:32That's not as much of a red flag, even though you don't expect him to start.
00:18:35City Soul, I'm not freaking out yet because he did miss one day during the spring.
00:18:39It kind of flew under the radar.
00:18:40But, you know, maybe it's something like that.
00:18:42I really don't know.
00:18:43But, yeah, it really stinks with Chukzo Korafor.
00:18:45Obviously, he got a lot of reps, and that is nice that he's got them under his belt.
00:18:48This is the third straight practice he's missed after he had to leave four practices ago
00:18:52because of the injury that he's now out with.
00:18:54So, it's extremely discouraging, especially for a run-first team.
00:18:57You need these repetitions with all the outside zone
00:19:00and also all the other types of concepts they're going to be using.
00:19:03You need this to really know how the other guys are going to respond
00:19:06and maximize what's going to be the real thrust of your offense.
00:19:10Thrust of your offense.
00:19:11Is that a phrase?
00:19:12It is now.
00:19:13Yeah, I'm worried.
00:19:14I'm worried.
00:19:15Chad, who's the thrust of the Patriots offense?
00:19:18Drake.
00:19:20Go ahead.
00:19:21I thought you said Chad.
00:19:22Chad Ryland?
00:19:23Chad.
00:19:24I understand.
00:19:25No, it collapsed so quickly, too, right?
00:19:27Yeah.
00:19:28I think it was either the second or third padded practice.
00:19:33The second padded practice before the day off.
00:19:35Yes.
00:19:36We were like, this is looking kind of good.
00:19:37Here we go.
00:19:38It was Korafor at left.
00:19:39It was Sidney So.
00:19:40David Andrews.
00:19:41Or maybe it was the left.
00:19:42No, it was Korafor at right.
00:19:43Oh, yeah, Wallace at left.
00:19:45Korafor at right.
00:19:46They were cooking with gas.
00:19:47They were running the football.
00:19:48They were pounding the rock.
00:19:49It was great.
00:19:50And then all of a sudden, we're a week and three days later,
00:19:53and nobody's healthy, and everyone's like,
00:19:55Korafor's walking around, and Caden Wallace
00:19:57is down on the second team.
00:19:58It looked really good at the time,
00:20:00and now it feels like we're just backwards a year ago.
00:20:02And I will say this.
00:20:03Calvin Anderson was asked about what
00:20:05it's like having all these rotations with the attrition
00:20:08and everything.
00:20:09And realistically, as annoying as it is, like, oh,
00:20:11the season hasn't even started yet,
00:20:12and we're losing all these offensive linemen,
00:20:14that's the game.
00:20:15Offensive linemen get hurt.
00:20:16It is not an easy position to play.
00:20:19And sometimes you do need to know that you at least
00:20:21have some capable backup.
00:20:22So I will say the slight silver lining is these are guys,
00:20:25a lot of them who are on the line,
00:20:26you do expect to still make the roster.
00:20:28At some point, they could play a role this season.
00:20:30So it is nice that they get out there
00:20:32and they get some reps with that top offense.
00:20:34But at the same time, obviously, you want as much chemistry
00:20:36as possible.
00:20:37It's just that hasn't been the reality.
00:20:40I got nothing else to add.
00:20:41Yeah, four person show.
00:20:42There we go.
00:20:43All right.
00:20:44So Brian, we'll start with you on wide receivers.
00:20:46Obviously, we're looking a lot at the rookies.
00:20:48Hayuk.
00:20:49No, we'll get to Hayuk.
00:20:50Again, we're going to do that at the end
00:20:51so we don't get the podcast curse.
00:20:53Obviously, we're going to be looking at the rookies a ton
00:20:55in this game.
00:20:56And the rookies have been steady-eddy, consistent,
00:20:58like same thing start to finish.
00:21:00I think Javon Baker had a very Javon Baker day today
00:21:03where he was involved in the Drakeman interception,
00:21:06also made a pretty spectacular catch in the end zone
00:21:08for a touchdown.
00:21:09I think that's who he is.
00:21:10He's going to be a boomer bust wide receiver.
00:21:12He's going to make some great plays.
00:21:14There's also going to be some drops.
00:21:15You hope the good outweighs the bad.
00:21:16The drops don't come in big moments.
00:21:18Taylor, you're about to jump out of your chair.
00:21:20Brian and I looked at each other at the same time like,
00:21:22did he?
00:21:23So the play that you're talking about,
00:21:24the one with Gonzalez, right?
00:21:25Which one?
00:21:26The play against Gonzalez.
00:21:27Yeah.
00:21:28So we actually talked to Evan after practice.
00:21:30I don't think it was a touchdown.
00:21:31It looked like Javon Baker didn't get his feet down.
00:21:34I thought he got his hip down.
00:21:36I thought so, too.
00:21:37That was the conversation on media hill anyway that he did.
00:21:39He basically fell on his hip in the end zone.
00:21:41But we couldn't get a good view of him.
00:21:43That was the one the other day in the back of the end zone.
00:21:46I thought he was out of bounds.
00:21:49I thought he was out of bounds.
00:21:51I'm also a hater.
00:21:54Evan had the best view from up top.
00:21:56So we'll defer to Lazaro.
00:21:58We always have to defer to Lazaro.
00:21:59Wasn't your buddy right in the bleachers?
00:22:01My buddy was over there and said it was a catch.
00:22:03I thought he said it was out of bounds.
00:22:04We're all over the place now with Javon.
00:22:06Maybe there's a different one.
00:22:07I will say he had the two drops in the final 11 on 11.
00:22:10And that's something where you saw at college a lot, drop issues.
00:22:13We've kind of seen that throughout the summer, too.
00:22:16That's what my thing is.
00:22:17With Javon Baker, I would say this was probably his worst day of training camp.
00:22:21And I've been high on Javon Baker.
00:22:23And I've been high on Jacoby Bursette.
00:22:25Two guys.
00:22:26I have them both stocked down today just because I hold them to that standard.
00:22:29I know Javon Baker can go out there and make these crazy plays near the sideline.
00:22:32He can catch anything that comes his way.
00:22:34The consistency needs to improve.
00:22:36There were other days where he was good enough that I was like,
00:22:39okay, he dropped one pass.
00:22:40He couldn't get his feet in on this crazy difficult play.
00:22:43That's fine.
00:22:44But now it's becoming a pattern where it feels like there's at least one missed
00:22:47opportunity every practice.
00:22:48And on a day where you don't have the good to outweigh the bad,
00:22:51I just have to say, I wasn't impressed with what I saw from him today.
00:22:55Just because, once again, this is a player who has a legitimate ceiling
00:22:59to be like a low-end wide receiver one.
00:23:01Which isn't a scoff.
00:23:02He was a fourth-round pick.
00:23:03But we see he was a fourth-round pick because he's not making all the plays
00:23:06that are available.
00:23:07I think that's what he's going to be.
00:23:08I think that's who he is.
00:23:09I think that's his career is.
00:23:10Again, he does some really special.
00:23:12He does some.
00:23:13No, no, no.
00:23:14And that's not a bad thing, though.
00:23:15There's a lot of wide receivers in the league like this.
00:23:17Like.
00:23:18Not everyone's going to be Randy Moss.
00:23:19Right.
00:23:20Exactly.
00:23:21Like, he's going to make some spectacular plays.
00:23:22There's also going to be some drops.
00:23:24Ideally, he's good enough that the good outweighs the bad.
00:23:27And you just hope the drops don't come in big moments.
00:23:29And I think there's times where technically.
00:23:30Like, there's a few times where he'll jump in the air for a pass.
00:23:33And it's just like, dude, extend.
00:23:34You don't have to put yourself in the air in a position where a defender
00:23:37can push you or influence you and make it harder for you to keep your feet in.
00:23:40Like, those are the things where when I first saw him, I remember the hype
00:23:43and everyone's like, oh, he's crazy good.
00:23:44And I'm seeing it.
00:23:45And I'm like, well, there's a lot of times where he could be better.
00:23:48And I think it's going to take like a year or two, maybe even three,
00:23:51before those more fundamental things are a part of his game.
00:23:53And he doesn't have to think about them.
00:23:55But until then, you know, once again, we have to acknowledge it.
00:23:57As talented as he is, the consistency needs to improve.
00:23:59All right.
00:24:00Let's get some of the veteran wide receivers.
00:24:02Taekwon Thornton was off to the side for most of the team drills today.
00:24:06Gerard Mayo said before practice, all the players who are healthy enough
00:24:09to play in a game will play in the game.
00:24:10Who knows what that means for Taekwon Thornton, but boy,
00:24:13it's tough if he misses this game.
00:24:14He has to play.
00:24:15I mean, he has to play.
00:24:16He is now, he has gone from second round pick.
00:24:19I'm just like, can he?
00:24:21I'm like, can he?
00:24:22I'm not even against him.
00:24:23Deep sigh.
00:24:24I mean, he goes from, what, the 52nd pick or whatever it was two years ago.
00:24:28A guy who is like, he came out, he was good in his first spring,
00:24:32promising camp, gets hurt.
00:24:34And then last year, collarbone, gets hurt, doesn't play the preseason.
00:24:36This year, I buy stock again.
00:24:38I'm like, let's just see what happens here.
00:24:40And then it's literally like what we saw in the stock market yesterday
00:24:43where it just comes crashing down again.
00:24:45I don't know.
00:24:46It's that bad.
00:24:47But again, he comes out after practice, tells us it's a soft tissue injury
00:24:50that he's dealing with and managing once again.
00:24:52It's like he is now at the bottom of that wide receiver room.
00:24:55It's now Polk and Baker and Osborne.
00:24:58And we're not going to do Kendrick Bourne because we don't know where he's
00:25:00going to be, but there's guys where he's competing with Juju
00:25:03and with Jalen Rager.
00:25:04If he doesn't play in the preseason, how do you get him on the roster?
00:25:07Well, let me add this too.
00:25:08Sorry, Taylor.
00:25:09And then we can tie it all together.
00:25:10There's one more name on that list I thought had a really good day today
00:25:12has actually started to stack days a little bit, and that's Keishon Booty.
00:25:15I don't know if that's where you were going to go.
00:25:17No, I like that.
00:25:18This is when we were all so cautiously talking about Taekwondo
00:25:22being like he's making progress and blah, blah, blah.
00:25:24But this is the exact situation we all saw.
00:25:26Something happens, he's out, and somebody comes out and outperforms him.
00:25:30And Keishon Booty, to me, has run with this opportunity.
00:25:32And he's somebody who probably will play Thursday night
00:25:34and will have a chance to make some plays.
00:25:36I totally agree.
00:25:37So my whole issue with Taekwon Thornton was that, one, it's frustrating
00:25:41because they clearly want him to be the starting X receiver.
00:25:44One, schematically, I don't really know if that's a very good idea
00:25:48because I don't think he has a skill set for it.
00:25:50But beyond that, I'd like to see Keishon, I'd like to see Javon Baker
00:25:53get more of those opportunities because Jalen Rager feels like a one-trick pony.
00:25:57I think we know what he is.
00:25:58He can win vertically, he might catch a slant or two,
00:26:01but he's not somebody who's going to route anybody up.
00:26:03He's not someone whose hands you can rely on consistently enough.
00:26:05Well, he is your X, and Taekwon said it himself today.
00:26:08He's done nothing in the league.
00:26:09Now, Booty is someone I completely agree.
00:26:11He's kind of like Javon, where there have been some missed opportunities,
00:26:14some drops.
00:26:15I'm seeing way more high-difficulty catches and plays from him
00:26:19than I'm seeing from really anybody outside of like KJ Osborne
00:26:22and Javon Baker when he's on point.
00:26:24So I like that.
00:26:25I would just love to see Keishon get more opportunities to be the starting X,
00:26:29not even Jalen Rager.
00:26:30I just don't understand the point of having Jalen as one of the top two guys.
00:26:34Early on, he's a veteran, sure.
00:26:36But now, let the young guys get more opportunities
00:26:38because I don't know what you think the endgame is of putting Rager out there
00:26:42or relying on Taekwon Thornton when he's proving once again
00:26:45that he cannot be relied on.
00:26:46I think the hope with Rager is they want to keep him on the roster
00:26:49for special teams, but as Gerard Mayo said,
00:26:51they're not going to have special team-specific players.
00:26:53They want to be able to justify it by knowing even if it's not the starting X,
00:26:56he can give them something.
00:26:57But Brian, we talked a lot on Patriots Beat about consistency being
00:27:01Keishon Rager's biggest issue.
00:27:03Keishon Booty.
00:27:04A lot of names.
00:27:05Fuse them, please.
00:27:06Keishon Booty's biggest issue.
00:27:08And now here we go.
00:27:10Like he's starting to stack days and maybe he's making a push.
00:27:13It wasn't even Jalen you messed up because we have three Jalens.
00:27:15Yeah, there's three Jalens.
00:27:16That's harder typing than speaking.
00:27:18Three Jalens that all spell the first name differently.
00:27:20But yeah, he's been running.
00:27:23He's got a good amount of run.
00:27:24Keishon Booty.
00:27:25And I agree with Taylor.
00:27:26His hands have been very impressive I thought the last few practices.
00:27:29He had the fade from Drake May today.
00:27:31There was another one.
00:27:32I forget the exact situation, but it was a nice tight contested window,
00:27:36like snagged it down.
00:27:37So his hands have been impressive.
00:27:38And yeah, you are maybe not as many of the big flash plays,
00:27:41but a little more consistency.
00:27:42And that might help his case moving forward.
00:27:45All right.
00:27:46So before we move on, I want to get some quick things on the defense.
00:27:48We've got kickers today.
00:27:49And then Brandon and I, Mike's got something to tell you guys.
00:27:51We have.
00:27:52Where is it?
00:27:54I saw you in a Spongebob thing open on your phone.
00:27:57We have a little bit of Iuke news with Josina Anderson.
00:28:00All right.
00:28:01So let's do the read.
00:28:02Stay tuned.
00:28:03We'll get into Brandon and Iuke.
00:28:04All right.
00:28:05I need to pull this up right now.
00:28:06So we'll stall a bit.
00:28:07Someone in the chat said Mike and Winu is the thrust of our offense.
00:28:11Honestly.
00:28:12That's a good one.
00:28:13Probably.
00:28:14All right.
00:28:15Let's talk about prize picks.

00:29:15I love prize picks.
00:29:16I hit on a lot in the Celtics throughout the playoffs,
00:29:18and now we're back with Team USA out in France.
00:29:20So make sure you download the prize picks app today
00:29:23and use code CLNS for a first deposit match bonus up to $100.
00:29:26That's code CLNS on prize picks for a deposit match bonus up to $100.
00:29:31Pick more, pick less, it's that easy.
00:29:34Did you wish there was a helicopter going in there?
00:29:36Yeah, seriously.
00:29:37Much more clear, much more clean than yesterday's.
00:29:39Jesus.
00:29:40But, yeah, that's prize picks.
00:29:41So code CLNS, $100 deposit match bonus.
00:29:44All right, we'll get into that Brien Ayuk update in a little bit.
00:29:46Basically, the update is the Patriots are still in.
00:29:48I want to just fold that in the whole conversation before we go there
00:29:51because once we get to that, we're not getting back to the game Thursday night.
00:29:53A few more things I want to hit on.
00:29:55Big thing on the defense for me, player to watch, Christian Gonzalez.
00:29:59He's been better the last couple days.
00:30:02He's definitely making strides.
00:30:03You're seeing more of that number one corner product out of him.
00:30:09But a lot of people or some people have said,
00:30:12I'm not worried about the practices, he's a gamer.
00:30:14He's going to show up when the lights are brightest.
00:30:15Obviously, the preseason is not when the lights are brightest, but it's a game.
00:30:19Gamer's game.
00:30:20Let's see it.
00:30:21Not even close.
00:30:23I had to.
00:30:25I'm sorry.
00:30:26No, you didn't.
00:30:27You really didn't.
00:30:28I want to see Christian Gonzalez bounce back in this game.
00:30:30He'll be a player I'm definitely looking closely at.
00:30:32Brien.
00:30:33Yeah, he gave up a few more catches today.
00:30:35I'm still not worried about him.
00:30:36I'm kind of with you.
00:30:37I think he is more of a game player.
00:30:39And Gerard Mayo kind of even said something in one of his press conferences
00:30:42the other day.
00:30:43He's like, sometimes I even have to get on him to practice a little harder
00:30:47or something along those lines.
00:30:49That's not an exact quote.
00:30:50But, yeah, I think a lot of practice is just kind of, like, mental for him.
00:30:54And then he's going to, like, put that in his brain almost
00:30:57and then go out there and execute it on the game field on Thursday
00:31:00or Sunday or whatever.
00:31:01So, yeah, I'd like to see.
00:31:03I don't know how much run he'll get because he is, like, their top guy.
00:31:06But, yeah, a big game from him Thursday night if he plays
00:31:09would be kind of encouraging.
00:31:11I'll stick with the secondary.
00:31:12I'll go with Jalen Hawkins, a guy where it's kind of hard to notice him
00:31:15at times on the field.
00:31:16You see him around the ball pretty consistently.
00:31:18But with safeties, it's not always easy to understand where exactly
00:31:21they were seeing or how they reacted.
00:31:23And with Jalen Hawkins being so hyped up by coaches and teammates,
00:31:26I'm excited to see what he can do out there,
00:31:29how they plan on using his versatility.
00:31:31They keep mentioning his versatility even though we mostly see him
00:31:33on the back end, although he does mix in in different spots.
00:31:36So, yeah, he's going to have a big role in this defense.
00:31:38Gerard Mayo told us.
00:31:39So I want to see what he looks like in game action.
00:31:41Yeah, my guy's in the secondary as well,
00:31:42but I'll quickly throw O'Shea Zemenes in there too.
00:31:45I'm excited to see him because, you know, with the trickle-down effect
00:31:48with Judon and everything in that room,
00:31:50I'll be curious to see how he can rush the passer on Thursday.
00:31:52But I'm sticking with the secondary too, and it's Alex Austin
00:31:54because, you know, Gonzalez and the other Joneses are sort of the three
00:31:58that they're going to, you know, rotate in those three corner packages.
00:32:03But Alex Austin, Isaiah Bolden have kind of been up and down
00:32:05throughout camp in that sort of backup corner role.
00:32:09So I'm curious to see if he can kind of separate himself
00:32:11because he was someone we talked about all summer, really,
00:32:13before camp started as someone who could be on the opposite corner
00:32:17with Christian Gonzalez on the other side,
00:32:19and then you can kind of use Jon Jones in the slot.
00:32:21It's sort of gone away from that lately.
00:32:23Jonathan Jones is heard out here as well.
00:32:25So I kind of want to see how the back end of that corner room shakes out
00:32:28with Bolden and then obviously Austin as well.
00:32:30I'll just add up front, since we didn't really touch on that,
00:32:32with Judon's situation uncertain, far more, I don't want to say
00:32:35situation uncertain, but, like, you're not going to have him.
00:32:37We've seen them rotate a bunch of different guys in.
00:32:39I thought Sam Roberts popped today. He had a good practice.
00:32:42We've seen Tristan Hill make some plays.
00:32:45Mike Purcell, like, who's good?
00:32:47Not all of those guys are going to factor in, replacing.
00:32:50Far more, and we'll see what happens with Judon.
00:32:52But somebody's going to have to emerge from that group,
00:32:54and especially up front, like, game situations is how you do that, right?
00:32:58So I think just the front as a whole, who emerges is maybe a playmaker.
00:33:03Yeah, I mean, Zemenez, you mentioned.
00:33:05Keon White has still been really active and disruptive up front.
00:33:08Another guy who we all know, Anthony Jennings, like,
00:33:11yesterday watching him in one-on-one seemed to have a little more juice
00:33:14as a pass rusher, and then today in team drills, I think he had two sacks.
00:33:19Taylor, you got all excited.
00:33:21I was debating if it was two pressures or two sacks.
00:33:23Definitely one sack, but I think it was two sacks.
00:33:26So that's someone who has just carved out a role as an edge run defender,
00:33:30but if he can start getting some juice as a pass rusher,
00:33:33that would be a big boost to his game and this defense.
00:33:35I'll let you go on your soapbox.
00:33:37I know you love Jennings, but I'll say he's going to probably get a ton of run
00:33:40because Uche missed practice again today,
00:33:42and Matthew Judon is probably not going to play.
00:33:44Yeah, that's a big one.
00:33:46Joshua Uche is missing, like, multiple practices
00:33:48in terms of not participating in team drills,
00:33:50which is very discouraging for a guy who, you know,
00:33:53was going to be such a better fit in this Demarcus Covington defense,
00:33:56and a big part of it, I think, is going to be line games and things like that,
00:33:59and you're losing time kind of like the offensive line
00:34:01where you need chemistry on those things, and he's losing that.
00:34:03But in terms of people to step up,
00:34:05I'm going to stay on my Jeremiah Farms soapbox.
00:34:08I can't believe that. That's my bad for forgetting.
00:34:10No, it's okay. It's okay, and honestly, he has fallen behind.
00:34:13Like Mike Purcell, he's been playing over Jeremiah Farms,
00:34:16which I personally don't love, but I do think that Farms
00:34:19is one of the few guys in that defensive interior
00:34:21who can bring both pressure and pass rush.
00:34:23He's no Christian Barmore.
00:34:25I don't even know if he's necessarily Daniel Iquale,
00:34:27but he is a little bit bigger, and I do really like what he showed
00:34:30late last season, so I'm hoping he can have another strong preseason
00:34:33like he did last year where he earned a lot more of the coach's respect
00:34:36and can just establish himself as somebody who can maybe play,
00:34:39not necessarily every down, but be that versatile type of player
00:34:43who's more well-rounded than what they would have in a Purcell or a Gottschall.
00:34:46And just Tristan Hill, too, had a stripped sack, forced fumble,
00:34:51pressure, weird thing today, but he spent some time
00:34:54in the medical tent yesterday, so good to see him out there.
00:34:56He's been out there a lot and disruptive again.
00:34:58I'll actually highlight that play, because we talk a lot in training camp,
00:35:01like you don't know what a sack is, because you can't hit the quarterback,
00:35:03and is it a sack, is it a pressure?
00:35:05I said screw it, I'm just going to swat the ball away.
00:35:07It was a clean stripped sack of Bailey Zappi.
00:35:09Zappi had the ball back, Hill just knocked it out of his hand
00:35:12as he would in a game, textbook play.
00:35:14And you and I were looking like, is that allowed? Can he do that?
00:35:16Hey, didn't hit the quarterback, just hit the ball.
00:35:18No, you can absolutely, I remember being in a camp,
00:35:20this was before I covered the team when I was growing up,
00:35:22Rob Ninkovich's first year here had like, I think it was Hoyer
00:35:25was the backup at the time, had like that play where it was a clean stripped sack.
00:35:28It was in red zone, not red zone, like backed up, right?
00:35:32So we fell on the ball for the touchdown.
00:35:34It was like, who's this guy?
00:35:35That was a heads up play, Bill's going to like that,
00:35:37and wouldn't you know it.
00:35:39Sure did.
00:35:40Maybe, you know, Tristan Hill, maybe something similar there,
00:35:43something to watch for.
00:35:44Special teams.
00:35:45Five kicks today for Chad Ryland, four for Joey Sly.
00:35:48Was it two days ago that Sly got the one in the live run on,
00:35:53hit from 57 yards, most impressive kick at camp.
00:35:56Ryland's extra kick today was a run on attempt from 53, pushed it left.
00:36:01And the four field goals at the end of camp, Joey Sly missed from 49.
00:36:05So they both missed.
00:36:06I do think Ryland is still one kick ahead of Sly in terms of makes, right?
00:36:10They have the same number now.
00:36:11Two kicks ahead.
00:36:12Two kicks ahead.
00:36:13I think it's 24 of 27 for Ryland and 22 of 27 for Sly.
00:36:18I'll pull that up.
00:36:19Pull that up.
00:36:20But Sly still has that, the 57 yarder,
00:36:24which feels like it holds a little more weight.
00:36:27This thing feels neck and neck.
00:36:29And we've said this is going to be decided in the games.
00:36:31Hopefully they get – we've made this joke how many times
00:36:33that they got three kicks in the entire preseason last year.
00:36:36Hopefully they get a chance to kick in this game
00:36:38and the game's coming ahead.
00:36:39But I don't know.
00:36:41Feels neck and neck.
00:36:42Feels awfully close.
00:36:43One other note, Brian, while you pull that up,
00:36:44Tucker Addington was the long snapper today, not Joe Cardona.
00:36:47A couple low snaps.
00:36:48Good job by Bryce Becker.
00:36:49It was awesome today.
00:36:50Another really good day for him.
00:36:52Killed in the punch drills.
00:36:53And he recovered two –
00:36:54Coverage team too.
00:36:55Recovered two low snaps that both of the kicks
00:36:58on the bad snaps from Addington were good.
00:37:00But what's the splits for the summer?
00:37:02Yeah, Ryland 24 of 27.
00:37:04Sly 22 of 27.
00:37:06Yeah, but Sly's been better from distance.
00:37:08It feels neck and neck to me.
00:37:10I don't – I mean, he had the 57, but like his miss today was from 49.
00:37:14I think outside of the 57, he's had more iffy issues from distance I'd say.
00:37:19But the 57 was the most impressive kick of camp I'd say.
00:37:22But maybe the most encouraging thing was like all the makes
00:37:25were right down the middle.
00:37:26For both of them, yeah.
00:37:27For both of them where we've had a lot where, you know,
00:37:29you're on the left upright, I'm on the right upright,
00:37:31and we're leaning and looking and we're like, it's good.
00:37:33Like today was pretty clear right down the middle
00:37:35except they both pushed one wide left.
00:37:37But, yeah, this is going to be decided in the game.
00:37:39It's too close out there.
00:37:40I'll leave the special teams analysis to the Patriots beat guy.
00:37:44He kind of tries to stay away from that stuff.
00:37:46But I'll ask the question, in this neck-and-neck battle,
00:37:49does Chad Ryland's – the fact that he was a fourth-round pick last year,
00:37:53still in a rookie deal, does that factor in at all?
00:37:56Like are they going to kind of try and make him win the job?
00:37:59Or do you think it doesn't matter because it's sort of Belichick?
00:38:01Right.
00:38:02So that last thing you said, it does a little bit,
00:38:04but not as much as it normally would because it's a new regime.
00:38:07Yeah, that's what I would say.
00:38:08Maybe his age, if anything.
00:38:09Right, right, right.
00:38:10Because a lot of – so many of these young kickers,
00:38:12they struggle the first year, even sometimes the second year,
00:38:16and then it just – something happens.
00:38:17It just flips and it works for them.
00:38:19So maybe they're more inclined to go through with Chad Ryland right now
00:38:24and even if there's still some struggles, like that could benefit him.
00:38:28But, yeah, I don't know about the new regime and everything.
00:38:30But you go back to – so I tweeted this today.
00:38:32I talked about it before.
00:38:33I talked about it before.
00:38:34Jacoby Brissette, one-minute drill, live, fourth and long,
00:38:37converts it to K.J. Osborne.
00:38:38All right, you're moving the ball, kind of stalls out.
00:38:40Chad Ryland misses the 53-yarder and everybody's like, oh, great.
00:38:43So it's like what it was last season.
00:38:46Those kind of money kicks are the ones you want to hit
00:38:48because that's a situation that will absolutely come up in a game at some point
00:38:52and that can be the difference.
00:38:53So I think it's not just the 57-yarder from Joey Sly.
00:38:57It's that he was in that live situation
00:38:59and that Ryland has to miss in the live situation I think holds some weight.
00:39:02And, again, Bryce Beringer is really good today.
00:39:03I think that pretty much wraps it up on special teams.
00:39:06The only thing – and we were just talking about this before we came up
00:39:08with the kickoffs and the kick returns.
00:39:11We haven't seen any of Isaiah Bolden doing the returns.
00:39:15And we all know he was historically good at Jacksonville State in college.
00:39:20But we haven't seen him return.
00:39:21And he said he hoped he got out there Thursday night, which I don't know.
00:39:25It just doesn't sound like something you would say
00:39:28if you knew he weren't going to return, right?
00:39:31I don't know if they're hiding him on the practice fields.
00:39:34Again, he was electric at Jacksonville State.
00:39:36He was the returner in their two preseason games last year before he got hurt.
00:39:40But we haven't seen much of him at all here.
00:39:42It's been Jalen Rager, Antonio Gibson, more of those guys.
00:39:45So, I don't know, just something to watch there
00:39:47now that we'll actually get to see a live return.
00:39:49If they're going to hide him, though,
00:39:50wouldn't they just wait until the regular season?
00:39:52Exactly.
00:39:53Again, it was just something weird for someone who hasn't returned kicks
00:39:57to say, oh, I hope I suddenly get out there Thursday night.
00:40:00I don't know, just something to watch.
00:40:01We saw him joking around with Troy Brown a couple days ago
00:40:03while they were doing kick returns, but he wasn't part of it.
00:40:05It seemed like he was like, ah, come on, give me a return.
00:40:08I think the only time he's done it was, you know,
00:40:10Marcus Jones has been limited, so he got like one or two the other day.
00:40:14But, yeah, it's been three pairs, and he hasn't been in any of the pairs.
00:40:18All right, Taylor, we'll start here before we get to IU Class 1.
00:40:21One player we didn't talk about today you're excited to watch on Thursday night.
00:40:25Damn, put me on the spot.
00:40:27Oh, boy.
00:40:28K.J. Osborne.
00:40:29Okay.
00:40:30He's on a hot streak, like you mentioned.
00:40:31The fourth and long catch that he had today just continued a string
00:40:34where every day he has one catch at least where you're like, oh, yeah.
00:40:37No, K.J. Osborne is better than I gave him credit for,
00:40:39so I'll be looking for him.
00:40:40Mike.
00:40:41Taheem Bell.
00:40:42He comes out here in pads all of a sudden.
00:40:43Looks like he's kind of has some momentum as far as playing,
00:40:46coming away from that injury.
00:40:48Made a nice catch from Drake May today.
00:40:49I think with Austin Hooper and Hunter Henry's age and, you know,
00:40:52situation on this team, they want to rely on those guys
00:40:55once the regular season comes around.
00:40:56And Mitchell Wilcox's hands.
00:40:59I was going to say Bell, but I brought a backup prepared.
00:41:02Del Pettis.
00:41:03Good one.
00:41:04UDFA safety.
00:41:05Another pass breakup today.
00:41:07That's three straight days.
00:41:08He's been flying around.
00:41:09He's very physical, so he's going to love being out there in game action.
00:41:12But three straight days where he's had a noticeable play.
00:41:15See if he can, you know, continue that into Thursday.
00:41:17All right.
00:41:18Somebody pull up, because we'll do IUCN next.
00:41:19Somebody just pull up that update while I give mine.
00:41:20Terrell Jennings.
00:41:21Everybody knows how high I am on here.
00:41:22I knew it.
00:41:23The Del Pettis of offense.
00:41:27Del Pettis is the Terrell Jennings of defense,
00:41:29because Terrell Jennings bopped first.
00:41:30I like Smash Mountain football.
00:41:32They're going to run the ball a ton.
00:41:34It's the preseason.
00:41:35He's going to be out there cracking heads.
00:41:37Some people are going to be annoyed, because I think they're going to run
00:41:39the ball a lot with Joe Milton on the field.
00:41:41And I'd love to see Joe Milton, too, but I think that fourth quarter is going
00:41:44to be all about Terrell Jennings.
00:41:46So that could be fun to watch.
00:41:47All right.
00:41:48Are we good with ads, by the way, Amit?
00:41:49We're good?
00:41:50We're good?
00:41:51All right.
00:41:52Cool.
00:41:53Latest Brent and IUCN update, Mike, you have that from Jocena Anderson.
00:41:55Tweets within the last half hour.
00:41:57She says, now I'm told Patriots aren't giving up on 49ers wide receiver
00:42:01Brent and IUCN stakes per source.
00:42:03The question is, can New England stretch the offer they're prepared to give?
00:42:06If so, by how much, and how much creates sway?
00:42:09So basically sounds like it's coming down to the contract situation,
00:42:12I think, and IUCN is going to want.
00:42:14That's unclear.
00:42:15Is that the contract offer or the offer to the Niners?
00:42:17Right.
00:42:18I think it has to be the contract.
00:42:19I would think so, too.
00:42:20Because last night we heard the framework was pretty much in place.
00:42:23Right, right, right.
00:42:24So look, this is ultimately going to come down to where Brent and IUCN wants to go.
00:42:28This reminds me a ton.
00:42:30We see this a lot in the NBA, where a player basically doesn't just decide,
00:42:34I want to be traded, but I want to go to X team.
00:42:36The team trading them loses a ton of leverage,
00:42:38and the only leverage they really have is the contract.
00:42:41And what I think you've seen the last few days is the Niners have the trades
00:42:47in place with the Patriots and Browns.
00:42:49Brent and IUCN wants to be a stealer.
00:42:51He said he was on the Ryan Clark podcast a couple weeks ago,
00:42:54and they said, what team are you playing for in 2024?
00:42:56He said San Francisco.
00:42:59If not for San Francisco, Washington or Pittsburgh.
00:43:01He didn't mention the Patriots.
00:43:02He didn't mention the Browns.
00:43:03He didn't mention any of these other teams.
00:43:04I know some people have mentioned the Lions sneaking in.
00:43:07The Niners aren't going to do that outright.
00:43:09Don't Titans me, Lions.
00:43:11We'll get to the Titans.
00:43:12The Titans love broken players.
00:43:14They'll trade for Devo Samuel and free up the money for the Niners
00:43:17to pay Brent and IUCN.
00:43:20Yeah.
00:43:22Brent and IUCN wants to be a stealer.
00:43:24The Steelers aren't giving the Niners enough.
00:43:26They kind of know the Niners are hamstrung if Brent and IUCN only sign
00:43:29with the Steelers, and I think the Niners are putting some of this out there
00:43:32to try to get the Steelers to up their offer.
00:43:34Everybody goes home happy.
00:43:37I'll say this on upping the offer.
00:43:39Money's money.
00:43:40I get that.
00:43:42You do need to have a price where you're willing to walk away.
00:43:44You can't give guys blank checks.
00:43:46They did that with Calvin Ridley.
00:43:47It was good discipline.
00:43:49Taylor disagrees.
00:43:50Brent and IUCN is not the last great receiver who will become available.
00:43:55Maybe he is for this season, but you have a four-year building period
00:43:59with Drake May.
00:44:01If they get Brent and IUCN, and if the trade costs,
00:44:03I said this in our group chat last night, if you only give up one top 50 pick,
00:44:07I'll dance in the street.
00:44:08That's a great trade.
00:44:10Do we get a video of that?
00:44:11No, absolutely not.
00:44:13But if they can't get him, this cycle of wide receivers, him, T. Higgins,
00:44:21Amari Cooper was kind of floated out there, right?
00:44:23This cycle's over.
00:44:24I'm okay if they miss in this cycle.
00:44:25I've talked about threading the needle on when to add the guy.
00:44:28Next cycle's when you add.
00:44:29T.K. Metcalf, C.D. Lamb, T. Higgins again, Terry McLaurin, right?
00:44:34This isn't the last opportunity they'll have to make this move.
00:44:37I'd like to see them make it now.
00:44:38They don't have to make it now.
00:44:39They shouldn't overextend to make it now.
00:44:41I also just don't think it's going to happen right now from everything we're hearing.
00:44:44But that mentality kind of reminds me of what we talked about with a quarterback,
00:44:47and obviously it's not the same thing because there are elite receivers
00:44:50that are in the draft every single year.
00:44:52They're a little more available.
00:44:53Not just in the draft, in for agency, for trade.
00:44:54Right, but in for agency, like with quarterbacks.
00:44:56You don't really want to bank on a great quarterback hitting the market
00:44:58because that rarely happens.
00:44:59And when it does, there's usually a reason.
00:45:01With these great receivers, if they're going to hit the market like T. Higgins,
00:45:04obviously, like that whole fiasco, we were talking about it.
00:45:07Higgins is a guy where I have some hard no's,
00:45:09where I'm like he has an injury history.
00:45:11He's not super old or anything.
00:45:12But given the nature of his position, how he plays, it's discouraging.
00:45:15Brandon Aiyuk is like seedy lamb for me.
00:45:17They're in the same category where it's like this is a top-10 receiver,
00:45:20no significant injury history.
00:45:21They're young.
00:45:22They're versatile.
00:45:23Like you can do whatever you want with them,
00:45:25and they can legitimately take so much pressure off your entire offense.
00:45:29So for me, there's not really a price other than like matching
00:45:32Justin Jefferson's contract.
00:45:33That's where I think it's kind of pushing it.
00:45:35But if it's just south, these contracts go up every year.
00:45:38As soon as Brandon Aiyuk gets paid, maybe not as soon,
00:45:41but seedy lamb is going to surpass whatever Brandon Aiyuk probably makes.
00:45:45And then DK, Metcalf, and then all these other guys.
00:45:47And not to mention the Patriots are now in a position
00:45:50where they can truly draft and develop.
00:45:52They've done all their extensions.
00:45:53The only players that aren't going to be on,
00:45:55or at least set to be for agents in 2025,
00:45:57are guys you don't really think they're going to be building around.
00:46:00And that's where you probably do go with them.
00:46:01I think Jonathan Jones is the only guy that's like a notable.
00:46:03And with his injury history, you're probably like expecting
00:46:05it might just be retirement.
00:46:07So the way I see it, if you're going to back up the brinks
00:46:10and throw money at somebody and spend a lot of money,
00:46:12wide receiver is the second most important position in football.
00:46:15You've got your quarterback on a rookie deal.
00:46:17You've taken care of your veteran defenders.
00:46:19Now is when you take a chunk of that cap space,
00:46:21which you have plenty of, and you put it towards Brandon Aiyuk.
00:46:24I just think, I guess my point isn't so much they shouldn't do it.
00:46:28And like you said, these contracts go up.
00:46:31There's no such thing as a bad contract for a good player.
00:46:34When's the last time a guy signed one of these big money contracts
00:46:37and was decent, but the reaction was,
00:46:39yeah, but did they need to pay him that much?
00:46:41Maybe Debo, honestly, and that's because he got hurt.
00:46:43Well, but Debo's not good. That's my point.
00:46:46He's good, but he's injury prone.
00:46:48Right. He's not living up to the contract.
00:46:51You either live up to the contract, you don't.
00:46:53You're not good, but not good enough for the contract.
00:46:55So I'm not worried about that.
00:46:56I guess my point is, I'm not hitting the panic button
00:46:59if they miss out on Brandon Aiyuk.
00:47:01Unfortunate, but again, DK Metcalf, CD Lamb, Terry McLaurin.
00:47:07If you can make the same trade and give that guy essentially the same contract
00:47:12and you lose out on six months or even if you lose out on one full season,
00:47:16most of which, again, we think will be started by Jacoby Brissett.
00:47:19Okay, you still got the guy eventually and you got him for Drake.
00:47:22And I've been on Aiyuk for, and it's not just me.
00:47:25I didn't start the Aiyuk thing, but I've been one of the people,
00:47:29a lot of the people saying, go get Aiyuk.
00:47:31I've been several of the people.
00:47:32Yeah, but go get a guy, right?
00:47:34And you want that guy for Drake.
00:47:35You want him from your young quarterback to develop with him,
00:47:38have a security blanket, be that true number one in the offense.
00:47:41But I'm with you as far as not hitting the panic button
00:47:43because they've shown aggressiveness already.
00:47:45They went for Calvin Ridley.
00:47:46They're going for Brandon Aiyuk.
00:47:48I think there was talks where they tried to trade back into the first round.
00:47:51Yeah, exactly.
00:47:52So they've been aggressive.
00:47:53The front office has been aggressive for that number one wide receiver.
00:47:56I would love Aiyuk.
00:47:57I think he's great.
00:47:58I think he adds that element to the offense.
00:48:00I would overextend.
00:48:01I would overpay for him because you mentioned, too, Taylor,
00:48:03the contracts move up.
00:48:05Again, as soon as he signs, the next one signs.
00:48:07The next one signs.
00:48:08It's like quarterbacks where you sign them and it keeps –
00:48:10that's why Matthew Judon is so upset.
00:48:11At one point, Matthew Judon, I'm pretty sure,
00:48:13was one of the top three or four highest-paid head rushers in the league,
00:48:15and now he falls down just because that's where the market goes.
00:48:18So I like the aggressiveness.
00:48:19I would love Aiyuk.
00:48:20But you're right.
00:48:22The next one will come shortly.
00:48:23So let me be clear.
00:48:24I'd overextend on the contract a little bit, not a ton.
00:48:26I'm not overextending on the trade.
00:48:27I want to get to that in a second.
00:48:28But, Brian, your thoughts.
00:48:30Ever since the draft, I've kind of just been like,
00:48:32let's roll with this group just for the year and then hit next cycle.
00:48:36Now, Aiyuk was the one guy where I was like, okay, if he still shakes out,
00:48:40you should get him.
00:48:41If you can get him, you get him.
00:48:43Him and CeeDee Lamb are on another level to me with like Terry McLaurin,
00:48:48DK Metcalf.
00:48:50Aiyuk is the guy where if he's available, you go out and get him now.
00:48:53But at the end of the day, I still think he's either staying in San Francisco
00:48:57or he's a Pittsburgh Steeler probably more likely.
00:48:59So they might not even know.
00:49:01Can I add something real quick?
00:49:02Yeah.
00:49:03As far as, too, like Aiyuk is clearly available.
00:49:05Will CeeDee become available?
00:49:07Will DK become available?
00:49:08I don't even know.
00:49:09That's my thing.
00:49:10It's tough to say that any individual one will.
00:49:13The way the league runs, the odds that none of them become available.
00:49:17And I look at CeeDee Lamb clearly getting a little disenchanted
00:49:21with the Cowboys, the way that whole saga has gone.
00:49:23And I don't think Jerry Jones is going to pay him and Dak Prescott.
00:49:27And Jerry Jones is going to not pay Dak Prescott.
00:49:29When it comes to DK Metcalf, the quarterback situation is uncertain there.
00:49:33It's a new coaching staff, new front office.
00:49:36We think it's going to be a new offensive philosophy.
00:49:38Does he want to get out and go to a system where he'll succeed,
00:49:41which I think you talk about a matchup of skill sets, him and Drake May.
00:49:45That's a real, right?
00:49:47Exactly.
00:49:48Taylor gets the chills.
00:49:49That's a really good pairing.
00:49:50I think if Drake May shows you a little something this year,
00:49:52you could really sell DK Metcalf on this.
00:49:54And look, maybe this is a little bit of a glass half full,
00:49:57rose-colored glasses take.
00:49:59I know people keep saying the Patriots keep getting used as leverage.
00:50:02And that's all this is.
00:50:03That's all their interest is, is they're getting used as leverage.
00:50:05I don't think they're allowing themselves to do that.
00:50:07I think maybe that's happening.
00:50:09It's not intentional on their part to play favor to agents or whatever.
00:50:13Eventually, the team's looking for these receivers.
00:50:17The list is getting shorter and shorter.
00:50:19Eventually, there's not going to be that many teams
00:50:21that want a wide receiver.
00:50:22And by process of elimination,
00:50:24you would think the Patriots have to land one of these guys.
00:50:26Every team that loses one just needs a new one, right?
00:50:29Well, they're training them for these draft picks,
00:50:30which they're using to draft them.
00:50:32So I think that's the trade.
00:50:33There's too many wide receivers.
00:50:35Simply put, it's economics.
00:50:37I'm not an expert in economics.
00:50:38I don't understand what happened to the stock market yesterday.
00:50:40But I can tell you this.
00:50:41That's a tough one.
00:50:43That's a tough one, Thornton.
00:50:45It was a tough one.
00:50:47You just said it.
00:50:49It's supply and demand.
00:50:50Supply and demand.
00:50:51There's more wide receivers than there are teams willing to pay
00:50:53number one wide receivers.
00:50:54So these guys are becoming available.
00:50:56So that's why I'm not hitting the panic button.
00:50:58One other side note in all of this isn't being discussed a lot right now,
00:51:01and I understand why.
00:51:02But it is important if this deal doesn't get done
00:51:04or maybe even if it does.
00:51:06The Patriots signed Kendrick Bourne to a new contract six months ago.
00:51:09And honestly, the Cleveland Browns signed Amari Cooper to a new deal,
00:51:12what, like two weeks ago.
00:51:13Supplies to them too.
00:51:14Both of these guys are reportedly included in those trade parameters
00:51:17that have been set pending Iooka Green in the contract.
00:51:20That is a dangerous game as a team whenever you do that.
00:51:23Gerard Mayo said he had a good talk with Kendrick Bourne today.
00:51:25But just objectively, you made an agreement with this player.
00:51:30And even, you know, you sign a guy to a multi-year deal,
00:51:32you trade him after the first year.
00:51:34That always raises some eyebrows among players and agents.
00:51:39Maybe Kendrick Bourne's cool with it.
00:51:40I'm sure he'd love to go back to San Francisco and play for contender
00:51:43and he's been there before and all that.
00:51:46The Patriots need to make sure now that this is leaked.
00:51:48This happened with the Celtics last year.
00:51:51Malcolm Brogdon, a year after signing the contract,
00:51:54was included in trade negotiations.
00:51:56The trade fell through.
00:51:57He essentially then demanded a trade.
00:51:59He said, fine, you don't want me, I'm out of here.
00:52:01I don't think Kendrick Bourne would necessarily go that far,
00:52:04but you risk him being disgruntled.
00:52:06Agents don't see this well.
00:52:08Like if you're negotiating with a player represented by the same agent,
00:52:11he's going to ask the question, how do I know, you know,
00:52:14my guy wants to be here.
00:52:15How do I know you're not going to trade him in six months
00:52:17somewhere he doesn't want to be?
00:52:19That's not to say it's all completely broken because of this,
00:52:22but it's something the Patriots will need to address.
00:52:25We probably won't hear about it, but it needs to be addressed internally.
00:52:27I was surprised when I saw Kendrick Bourne's name attached to that last night.
00:52:30We had these conversations this summer, too, with K.J. Osborne.
00:52:32We were talking about the wide receiver room and how it's going to shake out
00:52:35and how could K.J. Osborne be a cut candidate?
00:52:38Well, you just signed him.
00:52:39That's kind of a bad look, too.
00:52:40Now, granted, it's different in competition versus trading someone away.
00:52:43Yeah.
00:52:44But I do think that's what's tough about the media and leaks
00:52:47and conversations between GMs where it's like, okay,
00:52:50it's not a bad thing if you trade Kendrick Bourne for Brandon Ayuk on the surface.
00:52:55And when Elliott Wolfe calls John Lynch and says, hey, we'll add Bourne in there.
00:52:59Let's call this the framework from now.
00:53:01See what else you can get and hangs up.
00:53:03It's a Madden move.
00:53:04It's an easy Madden move.
00:53:05And then you can't do that in Madden.
00:53:06You're joking.
00:53:07I was like, this feels unethical.
00:53:08I wouldn't do this in Madden.
00:53:10It doesn't let you trade someone that you just signed like that.
00:53:13And then it gets leaked and it's a tough look.
00:53:16But at the same time, I don't think it's – I like that they have the conversation with Bourne.
00:53:22Okay, this is what's happening.
00:53:23Here's why.
00:53:24And he's the kind of guy you think would handle it well.
00:53:26Right.
00:53:27I mean, he wants to be a captain of this team, which is also a tough look, too,
00:53:29where he says he wants to be part of the rebuild.
00:53:31He's been a leader.
00:53:32He's been here.
00:53:33He comes out and stretches every single day.
00:53:34And maybe I jumped the gun a little bit earlier by saying that he wasn't out of practice.
00:53:37Got to stir the pot, Mike.
00:53:39Coming back from a torn ACL on a rainy field.
00:53:41You got to stir the pot a little bit.
00:53:42He wasn't out there.
00:53:43That's an objective observation.
00:53:44Anyway, I do think, long story short, that if you have to make that deal,
00:53:50any team is going to do it.
00:53:52But it's a tough look for a guy, again,
00:53:53who has poured his heart and soul into being a New England Patriot,
00:53:55wants to be a part of it, wants to be a captain, et cetera.
00:53:58Maybe he's like, hey, I'd go back to San Francisco,
00:54:00have some stability for the first time in like three or four years.
00:54:04Yeah, I agree.
00:54:05I think it's a really awkward situation that you put yourself in
00:54:08by putting a player out there.
00:54:10But these guys know football is a business.
00:54:12Not everyone, obviously, like Matt Judon.
00:54:14Some people hate the business side.
00:54:16And as much as you know you'd like for there to be a separation,
00:54:19things start to overlap.
00:54:20And with Judon, I think we all thought, yeah, he's probably the one that if a player's involved.
00:54:24He makes a lot more sense, yeah.
00:54:25Because he's clearly not very happy with you.
00:54:27Like even, you know, today we had kind of a weird little Judon situation
00:54:31where he leaves practice, comes back, and he's out of his pads.
00:54:33And we were like, is something happening?
00:54:35Because Elliot Wolfe was on the field around the same time.
00:54:37We were like, oh, my God.
00:54:38Is this it?
00:54:39Yeah, so, you know, with Kendrick Bourne, like you guys said,
00:54:41I think that of anybody he's probably going to be the one who lets it slide off
00:54:45more than someone else.
00:54:47But we've got to keep an eye on that situation.
00:54:49And if he is a little bit upset by the fact that he said,
00:54:51I want to be part of this rebuild for a completely unproven franchise but regime.
00:54:56And then you're like, yeah, but also we might kick you to the –
00:54:58not kick you to the curb, but, you know, get rid of it.
00:55:00In an interview too earlier this offseason with Boston.com's Kari Thompson,
00:55:04Bourne said someone who he would want to see the team try and go get is Brandon Ayoub
00:55:08because he needs to play for him.
00:55:09So then they ship him out for that.
00:55:11It's just – it's a tough look, but again, it's the business of it.
00:55:13Yeah.
00:55:14I mean, it's just considering it's a team he's been on, the same coach,
00:55:18and like a Super Bowl contender, you hope that he's just okay with it.
00:55:22Right.
00:55:23And it seems like that they had a conversation, him and Mayo, that maybe he is.
00:55:26So that's just, you know, reiterating that again.
00:55:29Because it can be a slippery slope if they just start trading these guys
00:55:33that they're just signing.
00:55:34I don't mean to sound the alarm too much either.
00:55:36Like, it's very possible Bourne – they talked to Bourne about it.
00:55:38He goes, yep, I understand.
00:55:39I'm good, you know.
00:55:40But, again, you don't know how does the agent feel.
00:55:43It's honestly more the agent than him because the agents can, you know,
00:55:46their clients see it and then their clients ask about it.
00:55:48Yeah, you're signing all these guys to extensions.
00:55:50They're all going to look at it and say, well, how secure am I?
00:55:53I just signed just like he did.
00:55:55It's another challenge for a first-year GM and a first-year front office
00:55:59that it's going to be something they have to navigate.
00:56:01I think ideally for them, this just never leaks.
00:56:03And I don't think that's something that leaked from New England.
00:56:05I don't think they wanted that out there.
00:56:07I think they're probably upset that that part's out there.
00:56:09Maybe not the whole interest in IU part but the Kendrick Bourne part.
00:56:12But, I don't know, just something that's gone under talked about.
00:56:14When you talk about the human side of it, like you guys talked about,
00:56:17there's a business side of it and guys understand that.
00:56:19But something like this maybe alienates players that are looking for somewhere
00:56:23where the business side of it won't be as in their face.
00:56:26I like that you related it to Brogdon too because in the back of their head,
00:56:28it's like, well, they'll offer me up for anything the next time.
00:56:31They might tell me, well, we just had to try it this time but you're safe now.
00:56:35It's like, how do you really know for sure?
00:56:36That's always in the back of your head and you kind of screw again
00:56:39with your relationship with the team moving forward.
00:56:41And with a front office that has no track record.
00:56:43Yeah, you don't know.
00:56:44I hope this doesn't become a thing with them because that's going to be hard to navigate.
00:56:48Again, this is a really unique scenario where Bourne has played there before.
00:56:53You could argue it's probably a better fit for him.
00:56:56Things like that.
00:56:57But you never know.
00:56:58Maybe he gets asked about it at some point.
00:57:00Maybe he doesn't.
00:57:01But there's so many.
00:57:03It's crazy how quickly we got.
00:57:05It was just for a while Brandon Ayuk's available.
00:57:08And that was the whole story.
00:57:09And are the Niners going to keep him?
00:57:10Are they going to pay him?
00:57:11Are they going to trade him?
00:57:12Whatever.
00:57:13And now in like the last 36 hours, it's layers on layers on layers.
00:57:15I guess before we wrap up here, are we good on Brandon Ayuk updates?
00:57:19I think so.
00:57:20I haven't seen anything new.
00:57:21I just wanted to make sure.
00:57:22All right.
00:57:23So we'll wait and see.
00:57:24Week 1, 2024.
00:57:25Brandon Ayuk is playing for the?
00:57:26Brian.
00:57:27Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:57:28Taylor.
00:57:29Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:57:31Patriots.
00:57:32Why not?
00:57:33He's going to be a Steeler.
00:57:34San Francisco 49ers.
00:57:36OK.
00:57:37That's what should happen.
00:57:38Somebody tweeted last night the what's that show?
00:57:44Mad Men meme of like Jon Hamm coming up with the idea.
00:57:47And it was like, what if we don't trade Brandon Ayuk?
00:57:50It literally seems like they haven't considered that.
00:57:52And I know their cap situation's a mess.
00:57:54Figure it out for that guy.
00:57:55You know what?
00:57:56I'm going to say this.
00:57:57Not a mess this year.
00:57:58A mess next year.
00:57:59Because I feel like somebody's going to look it up and be like, oh, they're fine this year.
00:58:00It's like next year, they're screwed.
00:58:01Bull take.
00:58:02Bull take.
00:58:03If they trade Brandon Ayuk, it's the beginning.
00:58:05We're going to, that will go down when we look back on it.
00:58:08Beginning of the end of the title window.
00:58:10I think so too.
00:58:11Because then you have to pay Brock Purdy.
00:58:14Kittle's getting older.
00:58:16Debo struggles.
00:58:18McCaffrey's are running back.
00:58:19How long is he going to last?
00:58:20Pierce Hall's already hurt.
00:58:21Trent Williams is like 36.
00:58:23What if we just traded for Trent Williams?
00:58:25I mean, yeah.
00:58:27Sure.
00:58:28Fine.
00:58:29Let's do that.
00:58:30But again, I just, this could be the beginning of the end of this specific window.
00:58:37And dare I go a step further?
00:58:39The Shanahan era in San Francisco.
00:58:41A notable Shanahan hater in Alex Barth.
00:58:43Praying for his downfall over here.
00:58:45It's not a smart move if they trade him.
00:58:46All right.
00:58:47We can go on and on about this.
00:58:48We'll wrap it up there.
00:58:49Off day tomorrow.
00:58:50You guys have a show tomorrow?
00:58:51Taylor might have something.
00:58:52Taylor, you got a show tomorrow?
00:58:53Yes.
00:58:54I will have something tomorrow.
00:58:55Yeah, yeah.
00:58:56I'll have stuff.
00:58:57Keep it locked.
00:58:58Patriots Daily tomorrow.
00:58:59Mike and Taylor's stuff, CLNistMedia.com.
00:59:01Brian, PatsPulpit.com.
00:59:02I have stuff on 98Five, theSportsHub.com.
00:59:05You can also catch me Thursday afternoon, 11 o'clock.
00:59:08I'll be on for an hour or two on the Sports Hub.
00:59:10Getting you ready for preseason game number one
00:59:13against the Panthers.
00:59:14What is the postgame?
00:59:15Actually, I'm the host.
00:59:16I should know.
00:59:17You're going to be on, I would assume.
00:59:18I'll be there.
00:59:19All right.
00:59:20You'll be on postgame?
00:59:21Yeah, we'll do it.
00:59:22All right.
00:59:23So they'll have a postgame show.
00:59:24Patriots Beat will have a reaction the next day,
00:59:26probably on Friday, to break it all down.
00:59:28Until then, thanks to Amit and the crew.
00:59:30You've done a great job through these live shows.
00:59:32We'll probably do one again next week.
00:59:34But again, it might not be live.
00:59:36The block ends on Tuesday, but we have our media game now.
00:59:39Oh, we might have to come up after the media game
00:59:41and do a breakdown.
00:59:42All right.
00:59:43We'll see.
00:59:44Patriots press pass on Twitter.
00:59:46Or Patriots yield us on Twitter to figure it out.
00:59:48So until then, until the next one, whenever that is,
00:59:51there's a bunch of next ones.
00:59:52For Brian Hines, Taylor Kiles, and Mike Kadlik,
00:59:54I'm Alex Barth.
00:59:55Thanks for tuning in.
