00:12Cedric Maxwell podcast.

00:17guest man.
00:18We told y'all nothing but a list
00:20guest during the offseason.
00:21We didn't have a guest.
00:22We didn't have a guest.
00:23We didn't have a guest.
00:24We didn't have a guest.
00:25We didn't have a guest.
00:26We didn't have a guest.
00:27We didn't have a guest.
00:28We didn't have a guest during
00:29the offseason.
00:30We didn't miss this time man.
00:31Ice Cube the legendary rapper
00:33actor man entrepreneur.
00:35You name it man.
00:36I can't even go down your resume
00:37right now but I'm very very
00:39excited about this conversation
00:40and thank you for taking the
00:41time.
00:42Of course the big three in town
00:43this weekend.
00:44You got the all star game the
00:45championship big big weekend
00:48coming up here in Boston.
00:50And of course Ice Cube is going
00:51to be in the house.
00:52But how you doing Q.
00:53How's everything.
00:54How's your summer been.
00:55I'm a summer Benz and it's been
00:57incredible.
00:58Thanks for having me on.
01:00You know I'm always been you
01:03know I've always been cool
01:06cornbread.
01:07You know me.
01:09Here and there.
01:10But it's been.
01:11He was a big fan.
01:13Well you know I must say that I
01:15admire his game.
01:16You know far as a fan you know
01:19you know what time it is you
01:20know.
01:21You know I'm a Laker guy.
01:23But you know you got to admire
01:26true competitors and people who
01:29step up to the next level you
01:30know I mean especially to the
01:32championship level.
01:33So it's always been mutual
01:35respect with you know not just
01:39cornbread but everybody you
01:41know all the Celtics you know
01:43it's been always mutual respect
01:45you know.
01:46Let me say it.
01:47Let me let me ask you this then
01:48suppose I bring ML Curry right
01:49now.
01:51You know if he was on a
01:53championship squad you got to
01:55salute it.
01:56You know you can't you can't
01:58hate on that.
01:59You know that's the pinnacle.
02:01And you know it's all salute.
02:04You know when it comes to that
02:06you know.
02:07But you know y'all know what
02:08time it is when it comes to
02:10ice cube.
02:11Well you know what you guys
02:13made me made Jason Tatum
02:15actually know me.
02:17I was walking around and you
02:19know one day he came out on the
02:21floor.
02:22He was going to practice.
02:23He goes cornbread.
02:24Cornbread.
02:25I said what's wrong with you
02:27man.
02:28He said I saw that 30 for 30.
02:29Damn you are bad motherfucker
02:31back then.
02:32I said that's how I get my
02:34props.
02:3530 for 30.
02:36What.
02:37Why are you talking shit about
02:38me though.
02:39Our team the whole time.
02:40Hating on the Celtics.
02:41I mean that was a brilliant
02:43thing that that happened.
02:45I mean that was a brilliant
02:47thing that they put you and your
02:49guy dying together.
02:50You guys were brilliant.
02:51Yeah.
02:52You know real fans and 30 for 30
02:55is a great way to teach the
02:57history you know to teach the
02:59history of what it was.
03:02You know when we were you know
03:06in the 80s and you know from a
03:08player perspective from a fan
03:10perspective you know the passion
03:12is still there.
03:13The memories and you know it's
03:18a special time in basketball
03:20that it's hard to you know I
03:23can't find a match for that
03:26feeling that time that rivalry.
03:29So you know I was proud and I'm
03:32glad that Donnie did it too
03:34because he's a proud Celtic fan
03:37so to have two you know
03:42filmmakers and fans and you
03:45know passionate people from our
03:47city to voice that over it was
03:50just as dream come true stuff
03:52for somebody like me you know
03:54because like I said I watched
03:56it on TV cheering in my living
03:59room or crying in my living room
04:01whatever the outcome was.
04:03But to now be a part of it in
04:06some kind of way is amazing.
04:09Yeah.
04:10Yeah man.
04:11Before that Tatum revealed that
04:13he thought he thought this dude
04:15this 6 8 Celtics legend over
04:17here was just a radio guy.
04:18He thought that he was just you
04:20know had been around the team
04:21for a while.
04:22He talked about in the third
04:23third.
04:24He's like wait a minute.
04:25I do one brings that to the
04:26youngsters.
04:28The youngsters think I'm a movie
04:30guy.
04:31So you know it's a I can
04:33understand what he's going
04:35through.
04:36That's so funny you say that
04:37because last episode I was
04:39talking to Max how growing up
04:41when I first saw new kids on the
04:43block I was watching this video
04:44one day on MTV I was like it was
04:46that Mark Wahlberg.
04:47Like I had no idea that he had a
04:50whole group and everything.
04:51So from that generation I can I
04:54can relate to that for sure.
04:55But I certainly know you from
04:56your from your rapping days not
04:58NWA quite.
04:59But when he was solo I remember
05:00that growing up for sure.
05:02So I mean you know it's all
05:04good as long as they know us.
05:05That's all that matters.
05:06You know we still here and we
05:08got a lot of history.
05:09When they get to know us they
05:11really know why we're still
05:14here.
05:15You know I mean and why we're
05:16still around because you know
05:19we've done some cool stuff and
05:21now we're talking about the cool
05:23stuff that you know Max is
05:25talking about what players is
05:27doing.
05:28I'm talking about you know I'm
05:30you know displaying you know
05:32basketball with the big three.
05:34So you know we we set in the
05:36stage for the other for the
05:37youngsters to come in behind us
05:39and show us show us what they
05:41got.
05:42Well I got to let our our
05:44listener viewers on on a little
05:46tip.
05:47You know when I I saw my man on
05:49the sideline just where I had to
05:51go over and give him respect.
05:53So you know I get put my
05:54headphones off.
05:55I go walk up to him and he looks
05:58at me.
05:59You know he he's very
06:00observant.
06:01He's looking around everybody
06:02else and he sees me and he goes
06:04oh my God I smell fucking corn
06:07bread.
06:10Oh my God.
06:13I used to make my stomach hurt.
06:15That's a salute from a Lakers
06:17fan right.
06:18That's a salute.
06:19Hey you know it was a you know
06:22they had some tough teams and it
06:26was always you know a nightmare
06:29to have to go against the
06:30Celtics you know without a doubt
06:32the players from that era. I ran into Danny Ainge a few years ago. Had to give him his
06:40respect just for being that ferocious player, for bringing out the best in the Lakers too.
06:51It was the highs and lows of the 80s. I think it made it a special time for both organizations.
06:58I look at, I want to ask you, I think one of your darkest days, and one of my darkest
07:04days, I want to get your perspective on it, of when Kobe Bryant passed away. Because everybody,
07:09Tatum, there were people crying. How did that hit you? Where were you at when you heard
07:15the news? I mean, it got to be one, man, get the hell out of here. We knew it was telling
07:19you the story.
07:20Yeah, it reminds me of the time, you know, hearing about Magic Johnson in 91, or it was
07:27early 92. It was just, you know, back then I was on the set of Trespass with my homeboy
07:34Ice-T, and Tiny Lister, and Stoney Jackson. There was a few other people in that movie.
07:42And when it comes to Kobe, I was just at home. You know, I believe it was a Sunday. You know,
07:49me and my wife, you know, we was just kind of kicking it, you know, having our coffee.
07:56And then I got a text, and I just, you know, froze in my tracks. You know what I'm saying?
08:02I couldn't believe it. And, you know, when you get a text, now you searching for the
08:08remote, you trying to get to some news, and damn, it's true. And, you know, you numb.
08:18I think for about a week, week and a half, you just numb to, you can't believe it.
08:25One of the best players to ever play the game is gone, you know, before he can
08:36really enjoy his retirement, you know, and show us what else he had in store. Just won an Oscar.
08:43Um, it was just unbelievably tragic.
08:49Yeah, Max and I were actually on the road on that Sunday. So we were playing the Pelicans,
08:54and Tatum didn't play. I think that was already set in stone that he was going to play that game.
09:00But just seeing the devastation on his eyes, on everybody's eyes, man, we'll never forget that,
09:04because literally Max and I, we embraced one another like an hour, maybe hour and a half
09:08after it was announced. I was on my way into the arena. And I'm like, man, this is the one time
09:13I'm hoping, I'm hoping someone hacked TMZ because, you know, when TMZ gets it, it's usually,
09:18it's usually right. It's accurate news. I was like, I'm hoping this is the one time
09:21that they're wrong. But of course, that wasn't the case, man.
09:24Yeah, man, you know, it reminded me a lot of ways. I know you guys as Celtics has had tragedies,
09:32you know, with Lin Bias, you know, Reggie Lewis.
09:38Yeah, Reggie Lewis. Yeah. His anniversary just passed a couple weeks ago. Yeah.
09:42Yeah. You know, and you like, man, like, you just feel, you know, rivalries or that part
09:52go out the window when there's something on this level. And so I know the Celtic fans
10:00respected Colby in his game. I know he always got up to play the Celtics and always knew what
10:08that meant. Lost the championship, won a championship, you know, so. That was his
10:16favorite one. I just think it's, it's mutual, it's just mutual respect, you know what I mean,
10:20all across the board. And us as Laker fans, we appreciate it. Man, let's say what I don't think
10:27I've ever hated some people. I hate the strong word, but when I saw Magic and Coop and Worthy,
10:35I wanted to fucking throw up, man. Them dudes, them dudes. You still feel that way. What do you
10:40mean you used to? It still piss me off right now. I mean, Magic came up and wanted to shake my hand.
10:50I'm like, well, you know, the thing he did that pissed me off even more, we were at the Laker
10:54game. We were down on the floor about three or four years ago. I had my headphones on and somebody
11:00slapped me in the back of the head. And I looked to my left. It was nobody looked to my right. It
11:06was Magic walking away and he had his hand on my back. I was like, I'll pull these damn headphones
11:15off. That's the beautiful thing, look. We got our, we got our championship game
11:24there Sunday and Michael Cooper's coaching the championship game. And he coming to me,
11:31you know, saying stuff like, hey man, this is in Boston, man. So, you know, we gotta win this.
11:37I'm like, you know, don't put that in your team head. That has, that has nothing to do
11:45with it. He's just like, nah, we, we gotta walk out of Boston with a win. You know, it's really
11:50important. Like y'all don't never quit man. It never ends. It never ends. Oh, we like old
11:59soldiers, man. We just, we just don't, we don't give it up. We, we keep, we, we have, I have
12:04respect for him. I told somebody on the podcast earlier, I said, I respect the hell out of Magic
12:10right now, but what he's doing is entrepreneur, what he's done for black people, HIV, all that.
12:17I absolutely respect him, but then the guy turned around and said, but how do you feel about it? I
12:21said, I still hate his ass. He robbed some things from you guys and y'all robbed some things from
12:32him and you can't forget that, you know, it's like running into the dude who got your, you know,
12:40merchandise on his finger. You know, love that. When you see, you know, when they look down and
12:51see a ring, they think they should have had, you'd look down and see a ring you should have had
12:56that love, but you know, there ain't no love loss right there.
12:59Now in 1984, I give you that. When we beat the Lakers, that was the same time the Olympics were
13:05in LA. My guy, Elkar goes out to Fat Burgers, famous hamburger place in LA, and he goes to
13:13order a hamburger. And the guy says, you're in Elkar, right? He said, yeah. He said, I'm not
13:18serving you. He said, wait a minute, Fat Burgers, they go do some shit like that. Fat Burgers,
13:29really? Hey, he didn't need no damn Fat Burger. Get you some Arby's or something,
13:38man. You don't need no Fat Burger. You said you're good with that. Oh man, that's funny.

15:26Let's get into, I mean, we talked about what's going to happen here in Boston on Sunday, which
15:30for sure should be a lot of fun, man, especially for the league. You know, this is the big finale
15:35here, but let's talk about what was supposed to happen or what could have happened with,
15:39you know, the three on three, the winner of the Olympic winning Netherlands team who took the
15:44gold medal. And you presented a challenge for them to take on the champions of the big three
15:50and they accepted. But of course, FIBA got involved and now it seems like it's not going
15:55to happen. What happened there? Take me through that. Well, you know, we saw how the USA,
16:04you know, fared out in the Olympics and everybody, you know, if you even, you know,
16:10four eyes, no eyes, you could see and know that we had better players that can represent the
16:15United States. And we think they in the big three, you know, these guys have been
16:21playing this style of basketball for, you know, seven, eight years. And it's like,
16:28we feel like we got the best players in the world and it's not even close. And so after, you know,
16:35after the U S got kicked out, we was like, yo, we want to challenge the winner.
16:40We didn't even know who the winner was going to be. And it, it turned out to be the Netherlands.
16:48And so we gave him a few days and then gave him a call and they were, you know, to their credit,
16:55they was down. They think they're gonna do well against the, you know, big three all stars. And
17:02um, but they were worried about FIBA, you know, FIBA had threatened them not to let them play in
17:10the EU championships, uh, to suspend whoever played for a year. Um, so they kind of stepped
17:18in. Then they sent us this, you know, bullshit letter, um, where they said, you know, you,
17:26you only gave us 10 days to make this decision. We have to wait three weeks because of the,
17:32blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And so, uh, you know, that was a little out a technicality.
17:40Uh, so today, um, we issued another challenge, yo, let's do it in January. Let's invite a few
17:48more, uh, other biggest three on three teams in the world are the best. Let's have a little
17:54tournament. Let's call it the big cup. Let's uh, you know, let's put that money back on the line
18:02and, um, and so, you know, we're gonna play our championship. We're gonna play our all-star game
18:08on Sunday and then we're going to get right back at them and see if they can, uh, you know,
18:13what excuses would they have now? Oh, what made, what made you come up with that concept? I mean,
18:19that's just, I mean, we play, I play, play street ball all the time, play three on three, but
18:25what made you think that this was going to be viable, especially commercial. And now
18:30you've kind of crossed over into a whole nother thing where people are representing you and being
18:34on TV. This is really cool. But what made you come up with that concept? Just playing, you know,
18:40being a fan, uh, I love basketball. You know, I play a little organized basketball. I wish I
18:49could have played your ass back in the day when I was, well, I wish I was. That's all right, man.
18:58I'll just shoot them jumpers, man. You know, I know what you can do down there. I ain't about
19:07to come in that paint. Uh, but you know, just playing, you know, a lot of three on three in
19:13my backyard, you know, you know, at my house we had the court. So we had everybody in the backyard
19:20battling and, um, and it's, you know, it's just a great game. It's a mano-a-mano game.
19:26It's a game where you have to have all skills. You know, you can't be a specialist
19:32in three on three, you know, five on five, you can be a defensive guy. You could be a rebound guy.
19:38You could be a three point guy, but in the, you know, three on three, you have to be able to pass
19:44dribble, shoot and defend. And, you know, man up, lock down your man, help is not coming. Uh,
19:52and so I felt like this style was there all along, like the, uh, step cousin, the five on five,
19:59you know, waiting for some shine. And I'm like, you know, talking to my partner, Jeff Quintin is,
20:06you know, let's elevate this to the professional level. And, um, we spent a year, you know, just
20:13figuring out what that looks like, what that feels like, what will be accepted by, um, first,
20:21you know, the American audience and then the world audience. Uh, and so we started to,
20:27you know, kind of carve up what the league should look like, feel like, sound like,
20:31and, uh, and it's a blessing. We've been here, you know, this our seventh year,
20:37uh, really eight, we had to shut down for COVID, but COVID, you know, it's, uh, it's been great
20:43that people love the game. Like I do. I remember last year, it was super cool. Cause you guys out
20:50in London at the O2 arena, I believe, and you get Jalen Brown to make an appearance,
20:55not only make an appearance, but to play in it. I thought that was super cool. And here we are a
20:59year later and that's the, that's the finals MVP, you know? So like, how did that come together?
21:04First of all, and second of all, like, is that something that you think could, you know,
21:09something you you're planning on for the future in terms of bringing in, you know, top tier NBA guys?
21:13Well, you know, with Jalen, I've, I've admired him, you know, from before I met him,
21:20you know, when he first got drafted and been watching him ever since. And, um,
21:28he's a brilliant young man and he, um, you know, he really is into, you know, trying to figure out,
21:37you know, ways to help in a lot of different ways. And he, he respect and love the team.
21:43He love what we doing with the big three given, you know, giving our OGs another shot at it,
21:50you know, as far as coaches, um, and, and players. And, and so he, he saw that this was great for the
21:58game, for the game of basketball, uh, is great for the psyche of the players. Uh, guys always come
22:06to me and say, this has been a tremendous help to their mental health. Cause a lot of guys struggle
22:13after they get out, you know, after the NBA, for some reason, uh, you know, sometimes it's a
22:19numbers game and they just find itself on the outside of them numbers. And so, um, he, he
22:27recognized that and wanted to help. And he was like, yo, you know, where's your championship
22:32game? And I told him, yo, we in London. He was like, I want to come. And I was like, yeah,
22:37we got an all-star game too. You know, we, we the only league that does the all-star game and
22:41championship game on the same day. So you get to see the best of the best. And so he, uh,
22:49he was like, man, how, how, how can I play? I'm like, yo, man, we, we love you for you to play.
23:02You know what I'm saying? Like, you know, we don't want you to mess up. He just signed this
23:07$300 million. Yo Max wanted to play him in bubble wrap. Remember that Max?
23:12So we don't want you to mess that up in any kind of way, shape or form. He's like,
23:18I got a love for the game clause and we're going to do something cool for charity. Um,
23:24you know, any, any, any kind of, uh, fine or something I get, I will match it and give it
23:30to charity, you know? So, um, I was like, you know, blown away and, you know, he is my favorite
23:38player in the NBA because he's a true champion of the sport. Not just, um, you know, not just a
23:46great player for himself or, or Boston or, you know, MVP of the finals, but he's, he, he champ,
23:54he's championed the game of basketball and we need more champions like that.
23:58Well, you know, I'm going to put you out here on French street because of, you know,
24:02your Laker affiliation. Give me a Mount Rushmore of the Los Angeles Lakers.
24:08I'm surprised you're asking that one. Okay.
24:10I'm putting them out there because I know you're going to leave somebody
24:13out and I know it's going to be James Worthington. I'm going to love that.
24:19You know, my, my, my own Rushmore got about 10 heads on it.
24:23You can't have it on the spot. Give me, you know, to me, to me, I think if you really
24:35talk about the Lakers success, um, I would have to give it to Elgin Baylor,
24:42okay. Barry West. Okay. Magic Johnson. Okay. And Kobe Bryant.
24:52Wait a minute. You're late. You're leaving the captain out.
24:56I'm leaving the captain out. I believe the captain needed magic to get over to home.
25:05Now I see why Max loved this question. There you go.
25:08Yeah. Whoever you leave off, he's going to, yeah.
25:14You know, without magic, they were playing tight with magic. They played loose free
25:19and won the championship. Um, and you know, I gotta say Kobe Bryant, you know, a 20 year Laker.
25:29Um, I don't think nobody did it, you know, far as in the Laker uniform between him and magic,
25:36nobody did it better, man. And so another guy, you leave that, you leave that to kill O'Neal.
25:43Yeah, I am. You know, she kills great.
25:45Yeah. Max, you'll leave that list alone, man. He's fine.
25:50And you know, you only get four, right.
25:53What would you replace on my list?
25:56Well, hold on. Hold on. Since you're, since we're talking about Shaq real quick,
25:58is it, does, does, does him leaving have something to do with it or not? I'm just, I'm just curious.
26:02Um, yeah, it does without a doubt.
26:07Okay.
26:09Here's Shaq one three. Um, you know, Shaq didn't win without Kobe, but Kobe did win without Shaq.
26:19Um, so I gotta put Kobe on my Mount Rushmore. If I want to get four, it's Elgin Baylor, Jerry West,
26:29Magic Johnson, and Kobe Bryant. Like, I don't, I don't understand.
26:34Okay. As much as I like your list and I think it is great. I can't go away from Kobe. I can't.
26:43And damn, I want to go away from magic, but I can't, but whatever it is, I wore number 33 in
26:49high school and Kareem is my all time favorite player. I have, I did tell him that to the
26:56matter of fact, the thing I told Kareem, we were on the court as early in my career, he came down,
27:02he elbowed me in the stomach and I was like, it didn't hurt me, but it hurt my damn feelings, man.
27:09And because that was my favorite play, but I got in there because of what he's done and just how
27:17effective he's been over the years. As many times he was an all-star MVP, that one I couldn't leave
27:24out, but you know, I can't over-argue your list. Although I loved Elgin, I still just love the
27:30captain more. Well, you know, Kareem was a great player. You know, he came from Milwaukee.
27:37He came in, I don't know if he was a team player as much as Magic. And I don't know if the Lakers
27:47would have won without Magic. You know, even with Kareem there, Norm Nixon, you know, he had
27:55Jamal Wilkes, but I just still don't think without Magic they win. And so I got to put him
28:05above Kareem because they played in the same era. As a Magic, as a Laker, you know, Mount Rushmore,
28:16you know, far centers, you know, of course Kareem was up there, but I just think, you know, Kareem
28:23was, you know, about Kareem, you know what I'm saying? I don't know if he was a team player.

30:10Let me ask you this and just follow up that. You are a great sports fan. Give me a Mount Rushmore
30:18of sports. When you get four people, you're going to-
30:21Oh, damn, Max. I was going to ask him about the Rappers, but all right, we can do that first.
30:25We'll ask him that too.
30:26I mean, I would put Muhammad Ali as a boxer because he did more than fight in the ring.
30:40I think he moved society. I mean, he damn sure the first rapper in the world-
30:47For real. That's a great call. Yeah.
30:50That really embodied the bravado of a rapper.
30:55Yeah, the braggadocious. Yeah, that's right.
31:01He moved the needle socially. Baseball player, how could you go away from Jackie Robinson
31:12as a baseball player? As a basketball player, I would go with Michael Jordan.
31:18Oh, go.
31:21What am I missing? Hockey.
31:24I mean, you don't have to. It's up to you.
31:31Gretzky, yeah.
31:34Just wait. Hit him with that question you're about to ask him because I definitely want to
31:38hear this about- Yeah, Mount Rushmore of Rappers, man. This is what I want to hear.
31:42I love Mount Rushmore of Rappers. You've been through generations here,
31:46so this should be a really good list.
31:50I would go with Melly Mel because Melly Mel, to me, showed us the power of rap,
32:01that you not only have to talk about your DJ or shaking your booty in, but you could talk about
32:08social issues. Then I would go with Karras1. Then I would go with Chuck D.
32:22Oh, man. Yeah, we had him on the show last month, man. That was an incredible episode.
32:28Big shout out to Chuck D.
32:29Then I would go with Ice-T. Ice-T is a West Coast rapper. He's our Moses, so to speak.
32:41I like that.
32:42He definitely would have a boss for West Coast rap, so I got to put him up there.
32:48Damn, just wait. I can't believe you left out your favorite guy, E-40.
32:53I ain't going to stop playing. Not even.
32:56Not even.
33:00I walked up to E-40. I met him at the game, and Jeff Swayze introduced him to me. He said,
33:06yo, E-40. I'm like, yo, what's up, man? Nice meeting you. Then they said, ping pong. Back at
33:12you.
33:13Yeah. Yeah.
33:15Max is looking at me like I'm a translator. I'm like, I don't know that. I don't know that
33:19lingo, man. That is not slang that I'm familiar with.
33:22Every time you talk to him, he going to say something new, something different.
33:26He told me one time, Cube, you got it. Are you solid or are you salad? I'm like,
33:34I'm solid, baby.
33:39That would make some more sense, but that's funny, man. That's a funny line.
33:43So E-40 going to come with the lingo. I think every rapper in the game
33:49done borrowed two or three things from E-40.
33:52Yeah, this is during the NBA finals, man. So you can imagine on the floor out in San Francisco,
34:03Gary Payne was there. He was going to be in the building this weekend, actually. He's one of the
34:07coaches for the championship in the big three. But yeah, Max and Gary going at it, and then,
34:12well, not in a bad way. We're just kind of talking about the game and the E-40 pop that,
34:15man, it was funny, man. It was funny to see Max's reaction to that type of lingo.
34:20Man, I got, I, dude, I so appreciate you coming on with us, man. It is,
34:26it's an honor to us, a pleasure to have you on.
34:30Absolutely.
34:31I'm definitely going to talk to my boy, ML Carr, and see if I can get you guys together.
34:41Tell the game, man.
34:42Your voice in the 30 for 30, when you said it, and who seals the fucking game?
34:48ML Carr, the guy I hate. Damn.
34:53Y'all talking shit, man.
34:55You know, y'all don't understand, man.
34:57No, they don't, no, they still ain't let it go. I'm telling you, man.
35:00Y'all wasn't humble winners, man. Y'all would be, man, talking a thousand dollars worth of shit.
35:08And so, yeah, man, it was visceral, man. You know, we was like, dude,
35:14don't, if you see ML Carr, don't give him no damn fat burger. Remember that.
35:20Yo, Q, hold on. Last, last one, man. That's why I get this one question,
35:23because I just think it's relevant with, somewhat relevant. But look,
35:27one of my favorite stories from you is when you were telling, I think it was a podcast recently
35:33about how your son auditioned for straight out of Compton for your role, straight out of Compton.
35:38And it wasn't given to him. He had to, you know, go to acting coaches,
35:42prepare himself for the role, go up against five other ice cubes. And of course he eventually got
35:46it. But the reason I ask this question is because I want your take on how you feel about LeBron James,
35:53Bronny James being teammates, you know, of course people call on Miles saying maybe he wasn't ready
35:57for this opportunity. You know, he should've stayed in college or he wouldn't have been
36:01drafted as high if it wasn't for LeBron James. But my thing is, I think if he's able to put in
36:05the work, he could surprise people. But at the same time, that doesn't always happen.
36:10It doesn't always pan out. But how do you feel about it? If you're in his, in his shoes,
36:14would you, would you have gone down a similar route or would you have done things differently?
36:20In LeBron James' shoes, of course, in LeBron James' shoes.
36:22Yeah. Yeah. You know, I think it's ridiculous for a father not to help his son
36:31make it to the next level. And in this world, you got to play with the cards that you dealt.
36:39You got to use what you got to get what you want. And, and then it's really on,
36:48like, LeBron can't help his son make a shot or D up or, or, or any of that. But his, his father can
36:58and should give him the opportunity to prove himself. You know, being with his father might
37:06be the best coach on the court that he can find. You know what I'm saying? Who can really
37:15yo, you know, to tell the coach, hey, he ain't ready yet. You know what I'm saying? Or
37:19come on, get in there and show me what you can do. Don't bullshit. Like my son,
37:25everybody know the coach's son usually have it the hardest. You know, they look like they getting
37:31all the play and all the, but you being coached 24 hours a day, damn near, you know what I'm
37:38saying? Like Jason, Jason Tatum talked about that. That was tough from school. You drilling,
37:44you know, you more than ready because for one don't embarrass the name that's on the back of
37:53that Jersey. And I put my son through the same thing, put him through the ringer, because if
38:00you're going to get out there, goddammit, you're going to be ready. Or you're going to come sit
38:04down with me and you're not somebody else going to have a job. And that's how it should be.
38:09Not saying you should walk unqualified people in the door through the door and do the job for him.
38:16But amen. Sometimes all a person needs is a shot to show you what they got. And so I, I, I salute
38:24LeBron and any father out there helping their son in any industry, make it to the next level.
38:34Absolutely appreciate you cube. And lastly, I mean, at this time, a Friday update,
38:38quick Friday update. The last I saw that it was in the development stage, where does it stand?
38:44Are we going to get another installment of Friday, man? I'm hoping that we get at least one more.
38:48I think we are, you know, right now we, we in contract negotiations.
38:56But I think they're going to get it done. They know what I need to make sure the movie's great.
39:02That's all I care about is making sure, you know, the fans get what they been waiting for. And so,
39:09you know, that's, that's my responsibility. So I just need everything I need to make that happen.
39:15And we just closed. We just closed. So we're going to get it done, man.
39:21I can't wait. I can't wait, man. Cube. Once again, I appreciate you coming on the show.
39:27Cedric Maxwell podcast. You know, when I saw you at TD garden that night, man, man, I don't know,
39:31Max, if you remember this story, but my phone screen was all cracked up and I'm thinking to
39:35myself, man, this dude was probably thinking to us, man, who is this dude giving me this phone
39:39all cracked up my fingers scratched up, but I appreciate you responding to me, man. Anytime,
39:45man. Don't worry about it. You know, y'all morning, welcome to the games on Sunday. And
39:50anytime you need me, hit me up. Sounds good, man. All right. Cedric Maxwell looked like his
39:55laptop was dying. For Cedric Maxwell, I'm Joseph Pavone. He is Ice Cube. And we'll see you guys
40:01next week, man. Thanks for tuning in.
40:17Joseph Pavone here, CLNS media. And if you made it this far, that means you really liked this
