00:00:05Last week Dallas overcame a big
00:00:07scare a scare that proved to be
00:00:09true with the triplets leading
00:00:12the way they look for revenge
00:00:14from an early season loss to the
00:00:15Washington Redskins nine weeks
00:00:18ago the Redskins stunned the
00:00:20football world upsetting the
00:00:21Cowboys.
00:00:25The Cowboys are now in the
00:00:26second half of the season.
00:00:27The Cowboys but since that
00:00:32moment this season has been one
00:00:34of disappointment one of
00:00:36frustration at three and nine
00:00:39the Redskins are still in
00:00:40pursuit of answers to many
00:00:42questions as the season nears
00:00:44its close.
00:00:58Texas Stadium in Irving Texas.
00:01:01The Redskins in town to face the
00:01:03Cowboys on an unusually warm day
00:01:07in Texas temperature nearing 70
00:01:09degrees stadiums sold out as
00:01:12usual.
00:01:13Pat Summer all here with John
00:01:14Madden and John although the
00:01:16Redskins beat the Cowboys the
00:01:18first time they played up in
00:01:19Washington the Cowboys are a
00:01:21prohibitive favorite.
00:01:22What do they have to play for
00:01:23today.
00:01:24Well you know if you're going to
00:01:25I've always believed that you
00:01:27don't really need anything to
00:01:28play for you just go out there
00:01:29and play your best.
00:01:30But in talking to the Cowboys the
00:01:32coaches and the players they
00:01:34know that if they win today that
00:01:36they clinch a playoff spot with
00:01:38a second win.
00:01:39They clinch a division title and
00:01:41with a third win a three out of
00:01:44four they can clinch home field
00:01:46playoffs throughout.
00:01:47So that's what they want.
00:01:48I mean they want to get in the
00:01:49playoffs and they want to get in
00:01:51the playoffs and they want to
00:01:52get in the playoffs and they
00:01:53I mean they want to get in the
00:01:55playoffs and they want to get
00:01:56home field throughout.
00:01:57And then they know that if they
00:01:59do all those things they're
00:02:00probably going to play the 49ers
00:02:02here some of the Cowboys were
00:02:03very fearful that they might
00:02:04have lost their fine running
00:02:05back Emmitt Smith on
00:02:07Thanksgiving Day when they beat
00:02:08Kansas City.
00:02:09We talked to him yesterday.
00:02:10He's going to play wants to
00:02:11play.
00:02:12Yeah.
00:02:12And I think the fact that they
00:02:13played on Thanksgiving Day and
00:02:15then they've had 10 days that
00:02:16really helped Emmitt Smith
00:02:17because he said he didn't do
00:02:18anything till Wednesday.
00:02:20It felt OK.
00:02:21Did a little more on Thursday and
00:02:23by Friday he felt fine and he
00:02:25doesn't think that anything
00:02:26should slow him up today.
00:02:28Most people accept the fact that
00:02:29the Cowboys and the 49ers are
00:02:31the best teams in the NFC.
00:02:33When you look at ways to attack
00:02:35Dallas they're all different
00:02:37schemes.
00:02:37Norb Turner the coach of the
00:02:39Redskins thinks you have to stop
00:02:40Michael Irvin because if the
00:02:42Cowboys are going to get a big
00:02:43play on you there's only one guy
00:02:45that can get it quickly and
00:02:46that's Michael Irvin.
00:02:47And then if you can stop that
00:02:49not let him have the big play
00:02:50make him work for it it will
00:02:52take him time.
00:02:53And the other part of that is
00:02:54you have to control the ball
00:02:55and that's the way the Redskins
00:02:56beat him last time and that's
00:02:57what Norb Turner says we have to
00:02:59do again.
00:02:59We have to be able to run the
00:03:00ball.
00:03:01Terry Allen has to have a big
00:03:03day.
00:03:04So stand by for the Redskins and
00:03:06the Cowboys one of the oldest
00:03:08and one of the most heated
00:03:09rivalries in the NFL.

00:03:18sometimes you forget about the

00:03:30the most dangerous kick

00:03:33special teams in the entire

00:03:42parts of that the kick is going
00:03:46to go to Mitchell deep in the
00:03:47end zone five yards deep in the

00:04:09and Ed Simmons the front Terry
00:04:12Allen Mark Logan the two
00:04:13running backs Orlando through it
00:04:16Henry Ellard and Scott Galbraith
00:04:18and they use two tight ends
00:04:20frequently right side stopped by
00:04:36Tolbert the Dallas defense
00:04:39Haley let Maryland and Tolbert
00:04:42three of the four were
00:04:43criticized by coach Barry
00:04:45Switzer after Washington beat
00:04:46them at R.F.K. Darren Smith
00:04:49Robert Jones Dixon Edwards the
00:04:50linebackers Deion Sanders and
00:04:53Larry Brown the corners brought
00:04:55Marion and Darren Woodson second
00:04:57and 10 tight end set up again
00:05:05Terry Allen deep Terry Allen
00:05:15and the linebackers are
00:05:16criticized by Dixon Edwards.
00:05:18Now when you play this cowboy
00:05:19defense one of the first things
00:05:21you want to find out is where is
00:05:23Deion Sanders lining up that
00:05:25time he lined it up in Orlando
00:05:27true it.
00:05:27You would think OK he'll line up
00:05:29on their best receiver he'll
00:05:31line up in Henry Ellard.
00:05:32I think what the Cowboys are
00:05:33going to start with is Deion

00:05:43offense gets loose but they have
00:05:46a screen pass call to Brian

00:05:56stop and that was one of the
00:05:57things that North Turner says
00:05:59that we can't do today we can't
00:06:01have a lot of those three and
00:06:02outs because he knows haven't
00:06:04been the offensive coordinator
00:06:06of this Cowboys team and a good
00:06:08friend and coach Troy Aikman and
00:06:10all those players he knows if
00:06:11you give them too many shots at
00:06:13you what they can do single

00:13:06stopped by the middle linebacker
00:13:07Robert Jones who's been bothered

00:15:52block and he can dominate from a
00:15:55guard position.
00:15:56He can make a head snap when he
00:15:57hits you.
00:15:58That jersey look like it's been
00:15:59sold 300 times and complete to
00:16:06earn it.

00:20:26I mean this line is so good that
00:20:28this line gets him past the
00:20:30defensive line and linebackers.
00:20:32He said if you watch Emmitt
00:20:33Smith he is usually being
00:20:35tackled by defensive back and in
00:20:38most cases he is stronger than
00:20:40they are.
00:20:41And he said that doesn't hurt
00:20:42like those big linemen.
00:20:45Irvin had it bounced out.
00:20:48Darryl Green was the closest
00:20:49Redskins.
00:20:51That's been a great matchup over
00:20:53the years.
00:20:55He's going to look at that on
00:20:56the on the screen to see how he
00:20:58dropped it again.

00:22:30that maybe he was out of bounds
00:22:31but if he's out of bounds and
00:22:33he's pushed out of bounds while
00:22:34he's in the air then that's like
00:22:36being inbound.
00:22:37You see he caught the ball in
00:22:38bounds and what they're ruling
00:22:40is that Brock Marion hit him and
00:22:42a Brock Marion didn't hit him.
00:22:44His feet would have come down
00:22:45inside.
00:22:46I think it was a good call.
00:22:48Schuler gets to Terry Allen who
00:22:50might have squirmed for a yard.

00:22:54And this is he Schuler's third
00:22:56start of the season.
00:22:57Remember he got he got hurt early

01:08:58with those things in mind he's
01:09:00still about as good as there is.
