00:00Watkins, and Barry Switzer has some problems, and that is the end of the first half with the score, the Redskins 20, the Cowboys 10.
00:09Stay tuned for the Dockers halftime as Fox NFL Sunday continues after these messages from your local station.
00:20Last week, lead the Cowboys 20 to 10, and right now let's go down to the field and Pam Oliver, Pam.
00:25All right, Dick, I talked to Troy Aikman back in the locker room, and the first thing, of course, you notice is that he's hobbling quite badly.
00:31I asked him if there's any way he'll be able to play next week, and he says, so far, Pam, I'm just really not quite sure.
00:38He compares his injury to that suffered by Eric Williams in terms of that calf pull that we mentioned earlier.
00:44As for the Redskins, well, they're trying to treat this game at this point like it's 0-0.
00:49The coaches are saying that 20 points, not enough in this contest, expect a lot of surprises from the Cowboys.
00:55Back to you guys.
00:56You know, that's interesting, Matt Millen.
00:58First of all, you can't treat it like it's 0-0 because you're up by 10 points, and it's a great boost for this Redskins team right now.
01:05Absolutely. That reference to 0-0 really goes back to Norv Turner and how he's calling the game.
01:09See, all of a sudden, you say, oh, we're up by 10, you know, Aikman's out, we can get a little conservative.
01:14Wrong answer.
01:15You've got to go right after him.
01:17You have to be aggressive.
01:18You have to keep on pushing the ball down the field.
01:20Let's take a look at that injury to Troy Aikman that put him out of action on the first series.
01:24Yeah, you can see it.
01:25We showed it about three or four times, and they're talking about, you know, just one week at a time.
01:29I'll tell you, that's one of those things that's probably a two- to three-weeker.
01:32And, you know, in my vast medical knowledge, when you pull something like that, it's tough.
01:37And Terry Allen looked like he did step out of bounds before he went in.
01:41Yeah.
01:42See right there, he got half of it on and half of it off, and that means he's out of bounds.
01:46And, you know, the buzz up here in Washington for the last week has been we have been getting killed by the officials.
01:52And I think this will silence all that official talk because Jerry Seaman, the director, is going to say this right here is out of bounds.
02:00And we gave you the touchdown, so now you just keep your trap shut.
02:03Allen, nonetheless, was credited with a touchdown, an 86-yard drive, and scored with 17 seconds left in the half.
02:11And we're underway as kickoff by Eddie Murray, caught by Kevin Williams, now reversing his direction.
02:22And for all of that work, he gets dropped inside his 20-yard line by William Bell.
02:27For all that work, he just lost himself about eight yards.
02:31Cowboys possessions, they got a field goal on their first possession.
02:35Aikman went out, and now you see the rest.
02:37Three times they had to kick it away, and then the half ran out.
02:41So the question is, what can the Cowboys muster with Wade Wilson at the helm?
02:49And they may have to be at the helm next week as well.
02:52The Cowboys will be home next Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
02:56They've gotten off to a good start.
03:00Starting from the 19-yard line, and the give is to Evan Smith.
03:05Smith gets two, and that's all.
03:09And all of a sudden, you say, okay, you got the best offensive line, everybody's talking about this line, and, you know, it's the best in the last 15 years.
03:16Now you're going to have to work with numbers.
03:18Because if you're going to be one-dimensional and run the football, the Redskins will counter by walking people up to the line of scrimmage,
03:25and you count, you cannot account for everybody.
03:27And so there's always going to be somebody to make the play.
03:31Evan Smith has carried 10 times for 32 yards.
03:34Second down and 8.
03:38They go to Evan again, and he finds a hole up the left tackle.
03:42And Evan Smith rolls his way to a first down, and a gain of 12.
03:47See what happens when they, that time they didn't walk the man up, but when they do walk a man up, they'll take a safety,
03:52and they'll walk him up, and see over on the offensive line, you have five guys.
03:57And then when you walk the guy up, see all of a sudden you don't have the numbers, you put the back over, have your safety up,
04:02there's always one guy who can't be blocked.
04:05And when that happens, he generally makes the play.
04:08Three tight ends for the Cowboys on first down.
04:14Evan Smith.
04:15And the first player is Mike Flores to trip him up, and then Tony Woods finished the job, and a gain of 3.
04:21Redskins are getting a lot of mileage out of Dexter Nottage and Mike Flores,
04:25two reserves who were signed as free agents just before the season started.
04:30And you know, all they have to do right now, the interior of that line, is don't get blown off.
04:35Stay low, grab on the guys, don't get pushed into your backers so the guy in the second level can make the play.
04:41So far they've done that.
04:43Second and 7.
04:45Cowboys on their 36th.
04:48Wilson's pass, and that was caught by Kevin Williams.
04:52He caught a lot of passes last week when the...
04:58You know, Dick, when we talked and listened to Jimmy Johnson at halftime,
05:02he was talking about this offense being out of sync and not being coordinated with everybody.
05:08And that goes back to Wade Wilson.
05:10See, right now what they're going to do is they're going to, offensively,
05:14they're going to come out and just pound the football,
05:16and then they're going to pick their spots with Wade Wilson so he can't get his timing back.
05:29And let's see, there's a fumble and it's recovered.
05:32They didn't mark it yet, they're not saying.
05:35The Cowboys claim that the play was blown dead.
05:38The officials have not signaled.
05:41It is Washington ball.
05:43Keith Taylor recovered the fumble by Emmitt Smith.
05:49Emmitt's going to try to bounce this thing out.
05:51Ken Harvey will be there, and then Daryl Green forces it back inside.
05:59See, I don't know if he was down or not from that angle, you can't tell.
06:04Taylor recovered it, and that is a big recovery.
06:07The first turnover by the Cowboys.
06:12Dick Stockton, Matt Millen, Pam Oliver here at RFK Stadium.
06:16We'll take a look at that fumble.
06:19And you'll see the role Marcus Patton played in it.
06:21First down on the 47 of the Cowboys, following the fumble by Emmitt Smith.
06:25And a pitch to Terry Allen.
06:27Cutting inside, and Allen picks up about four.
06:30Now before you say it wasn't a fumble, this is a definitive view and you'll see it is a fumble.
06:34This is a definitive view and you'll see it is a fumble.
06:36Marcus Patton is the guy who makes the play.
06:38Ken Harvey will grab that left elbow.
06:41Remember, Emmitt Smith has the bad left elbow.
06:43See, Patton comes in and whacks that elbow.
06:46The ball comes out, his knee was never down.
06:48That's clearly a fumble and a good call.
06:51And he likes to carry the ball in his left arm.
06:55Rarely does he ever switch it.
06:56Second down and six.
06:59Here's Allen up the middle.
07:02Terry Allen with the first down of the 35.
07:05Darren Woodson making the tackle on a terrific day
07:08with the fifth leading rusher in the National Football League.
07:11And a terrific day by Ray Brown.
07:14You can see Emmitt Smith.
07:16Remember, he hurt his left elbow.
07:18And he said it wasn't going to be a problem.
07:19And you know, maybe it wasn't.
07:20But every time he carries the ball, we watch the tapes, it's always in that left hand.
07:24Every time he carries the ball, we watch the tapes, it's always in that left hand.
07:27He started to count and then we gave up.
07:29Yeah, we just gave up.
07:30The guy just puts it right in the left hand.
07:32And that was the elbow that was hurt last week.
07:37First down on the 35.
07:38Again, they go to Allen.
07:40Look at Allen change direction.
07:43He is putting on the exhibition today.
07:45Godfrey Miles makes the tackle in a game of nine yards.
07:48He's an exhibitionist of sorts.
07:51He is running very, very well.
07:5470 yards on his fifth carry.
07:56Yeah, he's getting a great job out of his offensive line.
07:58Watch how they get everybody flowing.
08:00Now, this is vision.
08:01See, boom.
08:02See it come all the way back.
08:03Ray Brown is pushing people all over the place.
08:05Patton doing a good job of staying there.
08:07John Gieseck inside, like Howie Long talked about, is playing very well.
08:12Second and one.
08:17Allen.
08:18First down inside the 25-yard line.
08:21And what the Redskins doing, they're giving their defense really a chance to get a rest
08:26and to be strong when they come out again.
08:29Yeah, and they're also giving that offensive line confidence.
08:31Watch John Gieseck, 63.
08:33Trey Johnson, 77.
08:3567, Ray Brown.
08:36Joe Patton.
08:38And then Logan, Mark Logan.
08:39And they're just putting bodies on bodies.
08:41And they're winning the battle.
08:42They're just coming off the ball.
08:44They're beating Leon Lett and Charles Haley and Chad Hennings to the point.
08:47Trey Johnson has taken every snap today.
08:51He didn't know if he would start.
08:53Perrot with a swing pass.
08:55Again to Logan.
08:56Inside the 10.
08:58And out of bounds.
08:59Inside the 5.
09:01Well, you listen to Jimmy Johnson at halftime, and he was saying about Norv Turner,
09:05which has been my impression the whole year.
09:07I think he's been on a roll.
09:08But right now, I think Jimmy Johnson taught him too good.
09:11I think Jimmy Johnson taught him too good.
09:13Because he is just—he should be Dr. Turner,
09:16because he is just scalpeling these people to death.
09:20He's putting them in position by formation.
09:22He's taking them in and out.
09:24He's getting people going one way, cutting back the other side.
09:27This is going to be a training film for the rest of the NFL.
09:37Going to the 4-yard line.
09:38Here is Allen.
09:41Going to the 1.
09:42Robert Jones making the tackle.
09:45It'll be second and goal from the 1-yard line.
09:48As we wind down to 9 minutes remaining in the third quarter,
09:52the Dallas Cowboys, who have not scored an offensive touchdown,
09:56are trailing 20-10, and the Redskins are threatening to go up more.
10:01Well, you know what's really amazing?
10:02Terry Allen has really picked up very well in his offensive line.
10:06He is reading them extremely well.
10:09The guy who he's had the best feel for has been 67, Ray Brown.
10:19There's Allen.
10:21Touchdown.
10:22Touchdown.
10:37Terry Allen, who just picked up the first rushing touchdown
10:41against the Dallas Cowboys, followed his favorite rear end,
10:45Ray Brown, 67.
10:48And then he gets a nice job of blocking up front on the tight end.
10:51James Jenkins, 88, and 89, Scott Galbraith.
10:54They're working on Tony Tolbert and anybody else who shows.
10:57They just get the push, and then here comes Big Ray.
10:59Boom.
11:00And that opens it back inside.
11:02Terry Allen in for the score.
11:11Eddie Murray's conversion is good.
11:13And for Terry Allen, former Minnesota Viking,
11:16his second touchdown of the day,
11:19his first rushing score of the season,
11:21and his 27th attempt in favor of Washington.
11:29The Redskins has taken over this game, led by that man, 67, Ray Brown.
11:34Ray Brown is a big, physical guy,
11:36and that's the kind of game they have going right now.
11:38Isn't it interesting, Matt, how we've talked about the Cowboys'
11:41offensive line arguably the best in the league maybe for many years,
11:44but when the quarterback went out,
11:46their offensive line wasn't as strong,
11:48and now the Redskins took hold today.
11:50That's because they became one-dimensional.
11:52Kevin Williams.
11:57And an outstanding bit of running by Kevin Williams,
12:00and he gets it already into Redskins territory.
12:04Fine return of 36 yards.
12:06Yeah, watch Big Ray Brown.
12:08He's going to come around, and then they're going to double here.
12:10And then watch Ed Simmons, 76.
12:12He's the key, because what he's going to do is get to the feet of the linebacker.
12:15See, and that forces Robert Jones to have to get a little deeper
12:18and changes his angle.
12:20And when he changes his angle, that allows Terry Allen, 21,
12:25to be able to come back under you.
12:26Watch 55.
12:27See, he's flat.
12:28Because he's flat, he can't attack straight ahead,
12:31and that allows Allen to come back in.
12:34From the 47 of the Redskins, Darryl Johnston in motion.
12:38Wade Wilson's pass is caught by Novichik,
12:41and he's wrapped up immediately by Ken Harvey.
12:44The Redskins have run off 24 unanswered points.
12:48At one time, they were trailing 10 to 3
12:50after Darren Woodson's return of an errant pass by Peratt,
12:5437 yards for a score.
12:57But it has been all Redskins since then,
13:00and now a lot of burden on the shoulders of Ernie Zampisi.
13:03Yeah, there's Ernie right there.
13:05And he knows he's got to be patient,
13:06and he knows if he gets a score right here,
13:08they're right back in this game.
13:10They sure are.
13:11Second down, 7.
13:12Emmitt Smith tackled from behind,
13:14and that's Tony Woods.
13:17Playing with an injured wrist.
13:20You know, it's funny, at halftime,
13:21Sam Huff, the Hall of Fame linebacker for the Redskins,
13:25couldn't wait to get down here,
13:26and he said, hey, where's that offensive line now?
13:28He said, it's not the offensive line, it's Emmitt Smith.
13:31And when they're one-dimensional, you can't run them.
13:34Whose side do you think he was favoring there?
13:36Well, based on the pom-poms that he had,
13:38I would have to say that it was Washington.
13:43The champ of defense.
13:51Third and 7.
13:53Emmitt Smith, and a nifty bit of running
13:56in the first down for the Cowboys.
13:58Third and 7, they run it.
14:00Robert Bailey, the nickel, back on the stop.
14:02Boy, they did a great job on Ken Harvey,
14:05and it was Jay Novacek, 84.
14:06Watch him right here.
14:07Ken Harvey's going to come on the rush.
14:09Jay Novacek, just catch him.
14:10Now stay low, and this is what tight ends have to do.
14:12Just stay with him.
14:13See, you grab on, and you hold.
14:15It don't matter.
14:16You just mirror the guy, and that'll get body on body.
14:1922 will do the rest.
14:2458 yards for Emmitt Smith.
14:26First down on the Redskins, 36-yard line.
14:29Wade Wilson, out to Smith on the flat.
14:33And he picks up a couple of yards.
14:36Well, next week on Fox NFL Sunday,
14:39the same Dallas Cowboys,
14:41I don't know whether Aikman will be in there,
14:43maybe not, against Red Farm and the Green Bay Packers
14:46from Texas Stadium.
14:47That should be quite a clash.
14:49Carolina plays Chicago, Washington against Philadelphia
14:52in an NFC East battle,
14:53and some of you will see the Cardinals and the Giants
14:56in a 4 o'clock start next Sunday.
14:58Check your local listings.
14:59That's going to be a good football game
15:01because the Green Bay Packers have an outstanding defense
15:04and a healthy quarterback.
15:07Second and seven, look at pass,
15:09and another first down, it appears,
15:11Michael Urban from Wade Wilson.
15:13Yeah, I tell you, if you're a Washington Redskins fan,
15:16don't be jumping up and down too soon
15:18because this is a very patient Dallas offense,
15:21and it's also experienced.
15:23And what experience brings you
15:25is under adversity, you know what to do.
15:27You just react.
15:28You don't got to think about anything else.
15:30You don't have to do anything.
15:31You've been there before.
15:32Let's just go back and do what we do.
15:34That's exactly what's happening right now.
15:40There's Emmitt again.
15:42And he gets to that three.
15:44Keith Taylor on the tackle, and you're right.
15:46Norb Turner knows how to find the ways offensively,
15:49and the man who taught him, Ernie Zampisi,
15:51certainly does.
15:52Absolutely.
15:53And you look at what Ernie is doing.
15:55It's almost like, you know, it's funny.
15:57It's almost a carbon copy.
15:58What these guys are doing.
15:59Same thing.
16:00You know, you want to get the ball to Emmitt Smith.
16:02You want to get the ball down to Michael Irvin.
16:04And when you get running backs like this,
16:06and they're running this well, especially this guy,
16:09you just keep on going for it.
16:11Allen has had the edge so far today.
16:14Second and six.
16:19Wilson swings it out to Emmitt Smith,
16:21and he's stopped by Harvey.
16:23Ken Harvey all over the field today,
16:25defensively.
16:26For an aroused Redskins group.
16:28They have not given up a touchdown.
16:31And a loss of four.
16:33You haven't heard very much about Darryl Green at all today.
16:36Number 28.
16:37And that's a good reason.
16:38First of all, they're not trying him.
16:40That's the first thing.
16:41And then second of all, because he's doing his job deep,
16:44that's forcing him to throw everything underneath.
16:46And that allows Ken Harvey to make a play like that.
16:51Third and 11.
16:57Wilson's pass incomplete, the Redskins say,
17:01and Kevin Williams might have caught it,
17:03and he did catch it.
17:06They're short of the first down, however,
17:08by about a yard or so.
17:11Maybe two.
17:12Let's see if you do have the best offensive line in football.
17:18North Turner is disturbed over that defensive line.
17:23North Turner is disturbed over that defensive call.
17:27He can be disturbed, but it looked like a catch to me.
17:31Not that it makes him feel any better.
17:34Watch this ball, it's thrown nice and low,
17:36where it has to be in between the defenders.
17:38Williams goes down and gets it.
17:43Looks like a good catch.
17:44Yeah, it looks like a catch.
17:46And when it's fourth and two, and you're trailing 27 to 10,
17:49you gotta talk it over.
17:50Talk it over. Time out, Cowboys.
17:54Fourth and two.
17:55They are perfect on fourth down conversions this year in four tries.
17:59They're gonna go for the field goal now,
18:00but look at the sideline with Emmitt Smith getting an earful from Barry Switzer.
18:04He was H-O-T hot.
18:06He was saying, I make the decisions here, you don't ever do that!
18:11Whatever it was he did, he wasn't pleased.
18:13Redskins have to feel good about that.
18:15That's a moral victory right here, and if he misses this thing,
18:17heck, that's a major victory.
18:1934-yard attempt for Bonio, who was kicked one earlier in the game.
18:24And Bonio's kick is good.
18:27So, Barry Switzer says, I want the sure points.
18:31They've kind of settled it there.
18:3327 to 13 now, the score.
18:39...from above, thanks to the MetLife Blimp,
18:41cruising the skies of Washington, D.C.
18:43There's Snoopy.
18:45I was a little concerned when I showed up to the stadium today.
18:47As soon as I got out of the car, they said, there's the blimp.
18:50I said, what?!
18:51You've lost some weight.
18:52Yeah, well, then they said, hey, the MetLife Blimp.
18:54I felt much better.
18:55Terrible thing to say about.
18:57Nine plays, 30 yards, and Bonio with a 34-yard field goal.
19:0227 to 13, Redskins, and the kickoff to Brian Mitchell.
19:09Mitchell, fumbled the ball, and it is still Washington's possession.
19:18And, not bad field position for Washington.
19:23It's got their first point since the first quarter,
19:25and it was the first possession when Troy Aikman went down with a
19:28pulled calf muscle, and he's out of the, this week, who knows, of the future.
19:34You know, I think it just rekindles that story about, you know,
19:37which is the most important guy down there.
19:39Remember, he signed a big contract.
19:40They said, well, it was Emmitt Smith, and now Aikman's out,
19:43and now Emmitt's got to pick it up.
19:45First down, Redskins on their 36-yard line.
19:47Here's Terry Allen.
19:49Oh, man.
19:50Diving forward.
19:51Dixon Edwards on the tackle, and right now, for McDonald's game break,
19:55let's return to James Brown in our Hollywood studio.
19:57Hey, Dick, as you know, it's been an ineffective New Orleans offense
20:00all season, so they go into the gadget bag, a reverse.
20:03Torrance Small with the longest run from scrimmage for the Saints
20:06this season, 44 yards to pay dirt.
20:08The Saints leading at 10-9 in the third.
20:10Back to Dick and Matt.
20:12They got to try everything, Matt.
20:14Well, when your main things aren't working, you go to the grab bag.
20:18Second down and five.
20:20Terry Allen, and he's got a first down.
20:23He was putting on a brilliant exhibition today.
20:27Not 22 as much as 21, and that was a 9-yard game.
20:31Well, look at Ray Brown.
20:32He is just killing some people.
20:35You're going to watch him come around number 67.
20:37Trey Johnson, 77.
20:39Watch this block.
20:40He just squares his shoulder and just runs right through.
20:42And you get on the backer.
20:44Terry Allen, the smart guy.
20:45He's just following big 67.
20:48Jim Schwantz has replaced Robert Jones and been a linebacker for the Cowboys.
20:54First down on the 49-yard line, Allen for more.
20:57And Allen is approaching 100 yards.
21:00That was his 21st carry and has about 93 yards rushing
21:04in the opening game of the year against the Cardinals.
21:07Allen gained 131 yards.
21:10See that guy there, 77?
21:12Very doubtful if he was even going to play.
21:14Trey Johnson had the ankle.
21:16They said, boy, if I can get 15 plays out of him,
21:18I'll tell you something.
21:19He has been outstanding today.
21:21He is the difference between this offense from the first game to this game
21:25because they missed him, but there's in-between games,
21:27and the line has really taken off.
21:30Hannafin was delighted to get him back in there.
21:32Second down, six.
21:36Allen, short of the first down by a couple.
21:39And it was Leon Lipp.
21:43That was a four-yard game.
21:46We saw Trey Johnson in the opening game totally nullify Eric Swann
21:49of the Cardinals before Swann got hurt later on.
21:52The inside three of this Redskin offensive line is dominating right now.
21:57Ray Brown, 67.
21:58John Gieseck, the former Cowboy, 63.
22:00And Trey Johnson, 77.
22:02And they're being very simple.
22:03I mean, they're just coming off the ball and powering people.
22:07Third and one, under a minute to go in the third quarter.
22:13Lay fake.
22:15At the time, the pass, incomplete.
22:18Boy, he had Scott Galbraith wide open.
22:21He was looking for Henry Ellard the whole way,
22:24and this is a young rookie mistake in Norv Nosey.
22:26Robert Jones got a hand on it.
22:29As Henry Ellard is going to come,
22:30they're expecting everything to clear out in the middle,
22:32but Scott Galbraith comes down, and he's wide open.
22:36And Jones does a nice job of feeling the receiver and comes back and tips it.
22:41Fourth down on the Redskins will have to kick is Farad and Norv Turner.
22:46Talk it over.
22:49Matt Turk will boot it away to Kevin Williams.
22:59That's a good kick.
23:00Good kick.
23:01Fair catch.
23:02And the Redskins are going to see it go out of bounds inside the five,
23:06on the three-yard line.
23:08Great kick by the rookie, Matt Turk.
23:12Well, check out the show the Los Angeles Times calls
23:15a Rock'em Sock'em Science Fiction Adventure.
23:18The producers of the X-Files take you even deeper into the unknown
23:22in space, above and beyond.
23:24Catch a brand new episode tonight at 7, 6 central on Fox.
23:30Heck, I came home last week from the game.
23:32I walked in the door, and my boy said,
23:33Dad, that space show is really good.
23:36I'm glad they're watching and listening.
23:38Yeah.
23:39I was surprised, because I don't let them watch TV.
23:42Not when you're there, anyway.
23:44Only cartoons.
23:46First down from the three.
23:54From the end zone, Wade Wilson's pass is caught by Michael Urban.
23:58They get out of trouble.
23:59And a first down beyond the 20.
24:01Boy, was that well-conceived.
24:03That was very, very nice.
24:05You see what they're doing?
24:06They're going to motion him over here.
24:07That makes all your underneath coverage go this way,
24:09and that takes this and opens it as he comes down inside.
24:12This is good football.
24:14See how everybody has to push this way?
24:17And then that opens this wide open.
24:2319-yard gain.
24:24First and 10 on the 23, with three seconds to go.
24:27And they're going to go up top this time for Kevin Williams.
24:30Oh, and a catch!
24:31And he hits the catch as the third quarter comes to an end.
24:35He beat Daryl Green on a ball that lofted up there.
24:42And that's the end of the third quarter.
24:44The Redskins lead the Cowboys 27-13.
24:47Fox NFL Sunday will continue after these messages from your local Fox station.
24:53This play has the great protection.
24:55What I want you to watch is at the top right of your screen,
24:57you're going to watch Emmitt Smith just kill Tony Woods right there.
25:01That gives him lots of time.
25:02Then the ball's in the air, and what happens is Daryl Green bites on Williams right here.
25:07See that bite?
25:08And then he doesn't get his head over in time to find the ball,
25:12and that's a great catch by Williams.
25:14Start of the fourth quarter, and Emmitt Smith carries the ball inside the 35.
25:20Ball was on the three-yard line,
25:22and Wade Wilson has completed his last two passes for a total of 58 yards.
25:27Watch how the ball, the concentration,
25:29and watch how Daryl Green doesn't whip his head around in time.
25:32Williams sees it all the way.
25:34It's just over the grass, and a great job of catching the ball by Kevin Williams.
25:46Second and five.
25:48Redskins leading by two touchdowns.
25:50Outscored Dallas in the second and third quarters,
25:53and the pass overthrown on a fade.
25:56That was the pattern that Kevin Williams ran,
25:59and he was covered by Tom Carter downfield.
26:04And there's another roll of dice by the Redskins defensive coordinator, Ron Lind.
26:08That time, he figured it was going to be a quick pass,
26:12so he went with a blitz underneath, and he manned everything up.
26:15And so what he was counting on was if he walks his corners up,
26:18the ball has to come out quick, so he can give himself a chance.
26:23Third and five.
26:32And Marcus Patton was coming on a blitz from the inside, but a penalty marker,
26:37and it may be against the Cowboys.
26:39Ball starts.
26:41Number 53 on the offense.
26:43Ray Donaldson.
26:46Only third and ten now.
26:48Well, that's what Jimmy Johnson was talking about at halftime.
26:51You know, you get the new quarterback, a different cadence, different timing,
26:54and it usually happens between the center and the quarterback
26:57because you don't always take your snaps with the first team.
27:01Well, Wilson has played virtually the entire game.
27:04Aikman went out with a full-calf hustle, hasn't been back,
27:07and the Cowboys have not scored any offensive touchdowns today.
27:14Four wide receivers on third and ten.
27:17Kevin Williams makes the reception, and very close to the sticks,
27:21inside the 30-yard line, Darryl Morrison making the tackle,
27:25and it appears as if Dallas has the first down.
27:28Now, they got caught in the gamble right there.
27:30That time they tried to drop Tony Woods, 98 off,
27:33and it's going to open this zone wide open.
27:35Smith is going to come over.
27:37They're going to come with the blitz outside with the backer,
27:40and then they take the inside tackle.
27:42Smith's got to get wider.
27:43See, he doesn't get wide, and because he doesn't get out there,
27:46that opens the zone wide up.
27:48You also have to get good blocking, and when you're Emmitt Smith,
27:51you see him off the floor, and boom, step his face right in there.
27:55First down on the 28, Wilson.
27:58Wilson caught touchdown by Michael Irvin as he grabbed it away from Darryl Green.
28:04A sensational catch by Irvin.
28:08And the Cowboys may come within a touchdown,
28:14and the Redskins better not get too cocky.
28:16We have plenty of time remaining.
28:19This is that experience I was talking about by the experienced great players.
28:23Coverage is right on top and goes over the top, and it's just body.
28:26See how he gets his body in between, and then the strength of hands,
28:29he just pulls it down.
28:31Michael Irvin with six patches for 94 yards and a touchdown.
28:37And Chris Bonio for the extra point.
28:43And the kick is good.
28:45We have about a minute and a half going by in the fourth quarter,
28:48and the score now, the Redskins 27, the Cowboys 20.
28:53It took the Dallas Cowboys only two minutes to go 97 yards.
28:57Those two passes from Wade Wilson to Irvin and Williams
29:00before the end of the third quarter,
29:02and then Michael Irvin catches the TD strike,
29:04and it's a 27-20 lead for the Redskins.
29:07And Brian Mitchell returns for Washington.
29:13You know, in this touchdown, this is how you beat the quarter defense.
29:16See, they're going to go back here.
29:18Everybody, they're providing the deep part in the quarters.
29:20So what you have to do is you have to make this safety stay underneath.
29:25So Novichek comes, and that makes Taylor stay right there.
29:28And what that does is that opens this up back here for the deep end,
29:32puts your corner on an island, and then Irvin makes the great catch.
29:37And then after the touchdown, heck, he runs over to somebody he noticed
29:41in the stands there, somebody he obviously likes, and plops him the ball.
29:47I think he knows that fellow.
29:49I would say so.
29:51Total yards virtually even.
29:53But the Cowboys have the edge in the second half.
29:57First down from the 24.
29:59Lay it down.
30:01And the pass out to Terry Allen.
30:03One of the Cowboy defensive linemen might have jumped.
30:06Yeah, Leon let him.
30:07They were running that stunt with Haley, and he jumped the count.
30:17Yeah, they were going to run a stunt to that top side,
30:20and he tries to get to that inside real quick.
30:23On the defense, number 78, up to five-yard penalty, repeat first down.
30:30So it'll be first and five as they mark it off.
30:33Penalty is against Leon Lett.
30:38Ball at the 29-yard line of the Redskins.
30:40This is a big possession for Gus Farad.
30:44Not to go three and out and give that offense a chance again,
30:48but the Cowboys hand off this to Allen,
30:51and he fumbles, fumbles, and let's see.
30:55Wait for the official signal.
30:57Redskins keep it.
31:00Somebody came flying up inside and destroyed that.
31:03Darren Woodson, I think.
31:05When you start running all those counters and going back and forth,
31:08pulling your guard, the way to beat that is to get pressure up deep inside,
31:12and then that messes the whole thing up.
31:14That time, somebody came flying up through the middle
31:17and almost knocked Trey Johnson off.
31:21See, Trey Johnson's coming right here. That's who it is.
31:25That's Charles Haley. There's a surprise.
31:28He ran a stunt. Haley came down inside.
31:31Second down and eight.
31:33Farad, quick toss, incomplete.
31:35He was going for Logan.
31:37And it'll be third down, and this is where the Redskins,
31:41as we said, don't want to put their defense on the field again.
31:45Can you feel it starting to turn right now?
31:47Yes, you can.
31:48You can start to feel it.
31:49That's the experience and the patience that the Cowboys have.
31:54And they know if they hang in there and do their job,
31:56they're going to get right back in it.
31:58And it's also, on the other side,
32:00it's something that the Redskins, being young, have not learned how to do.
32:04And we've already seen that Wade Wilson may have started to get
32:07some momentum at quarterback for the Cowboys on that last possession.
32:15Third and eight.
32:16Brian Mitchell is the back.
32:17Farad is going to throw.
32:19And his pass is overthrown.
32:21He wanted Westbrook.
32:22Brown covering.
32:23And it is three and out.
32:25And remember, it was first and five,
32:27and the Redskins couldn't get five yards.
32:29And they'll have to kick it away.
32:33Well, and the play that made that whole series
32:35was when Charles Haley came down inside and messed everything up.
32:42Matt Turk will be kicking it,
32:43and Kevin Williams back deep for the Cowboys.
32:4927-20 the score.
32:50This game has gone back and forth.
32:57Wobbly kick.
32:58Williams will let it bounce.
33:01And it will go out of bounds at about the 30-yard line of Dallas.
33:04So a timeout.
33:06More than 12 minutes remaining, fourth quarter.
33:11Sway.
33:12Now, he knows when they're going to run those counters,
33:14you've got to get pressure up the field.
33:15See how he jumps inside?
33:16He hits Trey Johnson, and he bumps into Logan,
33:19and then that forces everything back inside.
33:24Penetration when you're running counters will kill you.
33:28Cowboys start from the 30-yard line,
33:30trailing by a touchdown.
33:31Emmitt Smith out of the backfield.
33:34And picks up about six yards.
33:35Ken Harvey making the tackle.
33:38At one point, the Cowboys led 10-3,
33:40and then the Redskins were up 27-10.
33:45And now the lead is 27-20.
33:50At the end of this game, Matt and I will select
33:53the Miller-like player of the game.
33:56Wade Wilson in relief of Troy Aikman,
33:58who pulled a calf muscle on the first series of the game.
34:01Second and four.
34:03Smith up the middle of the running room.
34:06And Emmitt Smith rambles to midfield.
34:09And his best run of the day, good for 14 yards.
34:13Well, remember at the outset, we talked about
34:15how this offensive line will just grind on you
34:17and start to steal your heart.
34:18This is what they do.
34:19See, they get those big bodies.
34:21Now it's the fourth quarter.
34:22You're shuffling people in and out.
34:24That offensive line starts to take control.
34:26Daryl Johnson with the block.
34:28Nate Newton with the block.
34:29And here comes Emmitt Smith.
34:31This is tying to buckle your chin strap defensively
34:34because it's going to get physical.
34:36Great tight end.
34:37So another one-up offense formation.
34:40Smith still on his feet.
34:43And close to the 45 of the Redskins.
34:46And right now, for a McDonald's game break,
34:48again, let's return to James Brown in our Hollywood studio.
34:51Superb running back there, Dick.
34:52Take a look at Marshall Faulk.
34:54After the Rams committed their second turnover of the season,
34:57Marshall Faulk makes him pay his third touchdown of the season.
35:00And he leads at 21-10 late in the third.
35:03Back to Dick and Matt.
35:05All right, JB, thank you very much.
35:07Emmitt Smith has gained 85 yards on 19 parries.
35:13Washington minus two yards, Dallas 68.
35:17Dramatic reversal here in this fourth quarter.
35:20Second and five.
35:22Flag down.
35:23Pass caught by Irvin.
35:25And out of bounds,
35:26but a penalty marker back down at the line of scrimmage.
35:29That one's coming back, boys.
35:32And a holding penalty will set the Cowboys back into their own territory.
35:38You know, it's almost predictable what Dallas is doing.
35:41Every time they motion Darrell Johnston away,
35:45they're trying to open up Michael Irvin.
35:48Holding, number 79 on the offense.
35:51That's a 10-yard penalty.
35:53That's number 79, Eric Williams.
35:56He's the one who got caught for the hold.
35:58He goes up high on Tony Woods, and Tony Woods just beats him.
36:01Yeah, he cleanly got him.
36:03Remember, Eric Williams, despite the fact that he's playing,
36:06is not really 100%.
36:08He had the knee injury and then suffered a strained left calf.
36:12Gave it a go anyway, but not 100%.
36:15It is second and 15.
36:17Most, I mean, enough.
36:21Wayne Wilson.
36:23Caught.
36:24And that is Jay Novacek.
36:27And you mentioned earlier, Matt,
36:28has become really the second biggest target.
36:32See what's happening.
36:33They got caught again.
36:34They're going to come with the blitz outside.
36:35Then they're going to drop a line, and this time, Tony Woods back.
36:38See how he's coming right out here?
36:40See, and then Novacek sees it.
36:41He just runs right by him.
36:43And any time you can't get that zone covered,
36:46every quarterback in the league is going to find that guy.
36:50They are looking for the one-on-one matchup with Michael Irvin
36:53by taking the floor away every time.
36:59First down, Emmitt Smith.
37:03Turns the corner on the left side.
37:05He was chased by Taylor, Daryl Green, and Harvey.
37:07Ran him out of bounds after a gain of three.
37:11You know, I've always said, offensively, when you're good,
37:14you can be as simple as you want to be.
37:16And you can run the same play ten times.
37:19When you've got better people on your side, you just go and get after them.
37:23And right now, that's what's happening with the Dallas offensive line.
37:27Cowboys trail.
37:28They're looking to go 5-0 for the first time in 12 years.
37:32They trail 27-20.
37:34Second and six coming up from the 33 of the Redskins.
37:40Sling pass.
37:43Emmitt Smith.
37:45And he gets a first down as Redskins defenders bang off of him.
37:51He gets inside the 20-yard line at a gain of 16 yards.
37:55Tough run for Smith after the catch.
37:57Well, you know, it's either a case of tough running or poor tackling.
38:01Tom Carter makes his break.
38:02He comes up.
38:03You've got to get your head on the outside.
38:04He just runs right by that one.
38:06Then bangs into Stanley Richard, and he guns through him.
38:08And then two more, three more guys.
38:10Heck, there's four missed tackles there.
38:12Granted, it's not an easy task for Emmitt Smith.
38:15He's a very powerful runner.
38:19First down on the 19.
38:21Eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
38:23Plenty of time.
38:24And Smith again.
38:25Finally hit by Rod Stevens after Stanley Richard made first contact.
38:34Boy, I like this.
38:35I like to see a team that's patient.
38:38It always drove me nuts when a team would panic.
38:42And when you have patience, it has to start on the sideline.
38:45But if it isn't there, it has to come from your players.
38:48And it's always your big-time players.
38:50And so, you go back to your Emmitt Smith,
38:52and you look at Michael Irvin and Jay Novacek.
38:55And those are the guys who are making the play.
38:57Sherman Williams giving Emmitt Smith the breather.
39:01He deserves it.
39:02Second and six.
39:03And Bruce Johnson with a carry.
39:08And guess maybe a yard.
39:10That's called the crumb.
39:12Here, take this.
39:14You notice somebody eating a full banquet like Emmitt Smith is having an eight-course meal,
39:19and then something rolls off his plate.
39:21It's a pea.
39:22And he just flicked it over to Daryl Johnson.
39:24Says, here, enjoy yourself.
39:25And Daryl knows he's not going to carry much.
39:27In fact, coming into the game, had carried only six times.
39:32He does other things.
39:34And he does them well.
39:39Third and six.
39:47Touchdown to Michael Irvin.
39:49There's a penalty.
39:50They're calling it off.
39:52Daryl Green saw it right away.
39:54Heck, he didn't bother covering anybody.
39:57Ball start.
39:58Number 71 on the offense prior to the snap.
40:02That's a five-yard penalty.
40:04Still third down.
40:06Mark Tuine, guilty.
40:07And that's one that really hurts.
40:09And as you're watching Tuine, remember this.
40:11This is the fourth penalty since Wade Wilson is in of this kind of cadence, kind of call.
40:16And so you can see that it has an effect.
40:20So a holding penalty nullified a big gain on this drive.
40:23And now a touchdown, although the Redskins let up when they saw the penalty.
40:30Emmitt Smith back in the game, third and 11.
40:39Wade Wilson.
40:41Pass caught by Irvin.
40:43And he is knocked out of bounds by Robert Bailey.
40:48Boy, there are a couple of points on there.
40:53The question is the spot as to whether they will have enough for the first down.
41:00They're going to measure.
41:01You heard it from Ernie Kupar, our referee.
41:05Well, you know what I love?
41:07I love when the game's on the line and you go to your great players and they always come through.
41:11Here's Michael Irvin working on Tom Carter.
41:14Oh, he was out of bounds.
41:16His foot was out of bounds.
41:17Did you see that?
41:19Well, that evens it up today.
41:21Yeah, they gave him the first.
41:22His foot was clearly behind the marker.
41:26Yeah, watch his foot right at the end.
41:28You can see he steps right there.
41:30See that?
41:31And that's behind this marker.
41:34But they gave him the first down.
41:36Mary Allen stepped out of bounds and they gave him a touchdown in the first half.
41:40First and goal from the nine-yard line, Emmitt Smith to about the five.
41:46Dexter Nottage makes the play.
41:52Remember that Emmitt Smith has scored a touchdown in 11 consecutive games.
41:56The NFL record is 13.
41:59Right now the first priority for the Cowboys is to come back.
42:03They trail 27 to 20.
42:05And the nine rushing touchdowns is more than any NFL team.
42:12That's what Emmitt has done as he faces second and goal from the five.
42:21Wilson swings it out to Smith.
42:24You can see the Redskins going after the football as he is down at the five.
42:28No game.
42:30Marcus Patton and Keith Taylor that time.
42:32That's a good job by Marcus Patton.
42:34You know, one of the hardest things in all of football is to make a block in the open field
42:38and also make a tackle in the open field.
42:40Especially when you're going against a guy like Emmitt Smith
42:42because the guy has the whole field to work with.
42:45So you come up and what you've got to do is just take your shot.
42:47That time it paid off.
42:50Third down and goal.
42:53A timeout score.
43:00Wade Wilson throws left, knocked away.
43:03Darryl Green knocked it away from Kevin Williams and saved a touchdown.
43:07Darryl Green has been watching that all day.
43:09You see what Wade Wilson did?
43:11He came out, he looked to the right to draw the coverage all the way over,
43:14and then boom, he turns around and he goes right back inside
43:18knowing that he's going to have single coverage on the backside.
43:21Now watch Darryl Green break.
43:23Say he got away with a little hand in the back there.
43:27Watch Wade Wilson look.
43:28He's going to look to this side, draw the coverage and the safety.
43:31Now come back.
43:32And then Darryl Green with a nice play.
43:35Cresponio with a 23-yard field goal attempt.
43:37He's 2 for 2 today.
43:40And now perfect 3 for 3.
43:42And with 4 minutes and 20 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter,
43:46the Redskins lead has been cut to 27 to 23 over the Cowboys.
43:53Knows that Michael Irvin's the guy down here they're looking for.
43:55So you get your jam, you hold your ground,
43:57and then if their officials are letting you play, you hold them.
44:00And see, he got away with that inside hold,
44:02as did Ken Harvey right down here on Darryl Johnston.
44:06And when that safety came over, Wade Wilson had to go back
44:09and then the nice play by Darryl Green.
44:12The officials aren't looking.
44:13I like that.
44:14I like when the officials just let you play the game.
44:17Here's Brian Mitchell returning the kickoff from the 15-yard line.
44:22And the Cowboys don't let him get away.
44:24That's a big play coverage by the Dallas Cowboys.
44:27David Lang, the ex-Ram, in on the play.
44:31This game is presented by authority of the National Football League
44:34and is intended for the private use of our audience.
44:37Any rebroadcast or other use of this telecast
44:39without the express written consent of the Washington Redskins
44:42and the National Football League is prohibited.
44:45Dick Stockton and Matt Millen.
44:47You know what a big play that was by Darryl Green.
44:50You know what it does?
44:51It gives them a four-point deficit,
44:55which means they have to score the seven points.
44:57It's not a field goal.
44:58So that's a monster play.
45:01First down from the 30.
45:06Mary Allen scored a couple of yards.
45:08Leon led the tackle.
45:09And on the offensive line,
45:11Bernice Smith has replaced Trey Johnson,
45:14who was not expected to play,
45:19played virtually every snap,
45:20but Bernice Smith is in there now at right guard.
45:25Hundred yards.
45:26Yeah, Trey Johnson, you see right there,
45:27and he's the one who helped,
45:28one of those guys who helped Terry Allen get his hundred yards.
45:33They need a healthy Trey Johnson because that makes Terry Allen better.
45:36Second and seven for Ott with a play action pass.
45:44Terry Allen makes the reception in a first down near midfield.
45:48Brock Marion on the tackle,
45:50and that is a big first down for Washington.
45:53There is some great football being played today in RFK Stadium.
45:57I mean, it doesn't get much better than this.
45:59Watch the protection.
46:00They match for tech.
46:01Now you're going to eyeball the receiver.
46:03And look at him.
46:04Look at that.
46:05That's a great shot up for Ott looking,
46:08going right in front.
46:09Ellard knows he's going to get hit by Marion.
46:12That's great football all the way around.
46:15Only the second reception of the day by Ellard.
46:19Ball is on the rescue, 49.
46:25Allen.
46:28He was trapped and then goes forward and gets in the Cowboy territory.
46:32And a gain of five yards with Jones and Godfrey Myers on the tackle.
46:38Well, the action will continue on Fox NFL Sunday next week.
46:41The Green Bay Packers, who are off to a solid start,
46:44go against these Cowboys.
46:46That will be the featured game at 1 o'clock Eastern.
46:49And, of course, the big question is Troy Aikman's condition
46:54as we look at the other games.
46:56Meanwhile, the Cowboys have called a timeout.
46:59They're second.
47:01You know what I find curious right now?
47:03Games on the line, you've got big play people,
47:05and your biggest play person is on the sideline, Michael Westbrook.
47:10Why is that?
47:11I'll tell you why.
47:12Because he doesn't quite have the feel for the offense.
47:15And you cannot afford a big mistake right down here.
47:18Remember, he's come up with some big plays.
47:20Sometimes he lines up wrong.
47:22He's not in the right spot.
47:23Now here at .240 to go in the game, you have to have no mistake football.
47:29The man who is in there is Leslie Shepard,
47:31who has caught a big pass and has oppressed the Redskin coaches
47:34with his ability to catch passes underneath in particular.
47:38He's a squirm.
47:39That's what he is.
47:40He can squirm into a spot.
47:42Second and five.
47:46They go to Terry Allen.
47:48And Allen with a big game with a first down.
47:51Boy, that was powerful.
47:52Look at Ray Brown jumping up and down.
47:54Ed Simmons, Joe Patton.
47:57James Jenkins just took care of.
47:59Look at it.
48:00These guys are flopping all over the place.
48:02They are.
48:03Look at it.
48:04It's amazing.
48:05It's one big flop.
48:07Nine-yard game.
48:14Left side of this offensive line.
48:16They are just being road graders.
48:18They are blowing people off the ball.
48:20Ray Brown, he has his guy.
48:22Charles Haley is out of there.
48:23Look at everybody.
48:24They've got six yards down the field and they know it.
48:26And they are excited.
48:27Look at Joe Patton jumping up and down.
48:29Watch big Ray Brown.
48:30Not only is he blowing their guys off the ball,
48:32he's blowing his own guy.
48:34That's hilarious.
48:35Look at that.
48:36He knocked him on his back.
48:38And then he did the dead end.
48:40You know, he's laying there with his hands going up and down in the air.
48:43Jim Lachey is lost for the season.
48:47Joe Patton had to come in and play.
48:50First down on the 38-yard line.
48:54Cowboys have used up their last time out.
48:56And Terry Allen cannot be stopped today.
48:59He has 121 yards.
49:02That time John Gieseck did a number inside.
49:06I've got to tell you, I'll be honest with you.
49:09I never expected this offensive line to do this job on the front four of the
49:14Dallas Cowboys.
49:15They are just mauling them.
49:19They allowed 75 yards, fourth in the league.
49:22Today they've been shredded for 138 by an impressive running attack.
49:27Two-minute warning.
49:33The nation's capital.
49:34And I'll tell you what,
49:36the heavens have been shining down on the Redskins for sure leading 27-23.
49:41Troy Aikman suffered a full calf muscle on the first series of the game.
49:46The Cowboys led 3-0, but that awakened the Redskins.
49:50They have had an impressive game.
49:51And Norm Turner, the former Cowboy offensive coordinator, 27-23.
49:57The Cowboys are out of timeouts.
50:00Two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
50:05And you're looking at the offensive hero as far as backs and receivers are
50:10concerned, Terry Allen, who has gained over 120-some-odd yards.
50:15Now let me put a little perspective right here.
50:17This is a huge down.
50:18You've got a minute 40 to go.
50:20It's third and short.
50:22If you don't get this, you either have to try to pin them back there with an
50:26out-of-bounds kick, so they have to go 90 yards.
50:30Or if you don't do that, if you get the first down, this one's over.
50:35But right now the Cowboys have enough time to come back and win this football
50:38game, so this down right here is a monster.
50:42Terry Allen.
50:44I'm not sure.
50:46I don't think so.
50:47If it is, it's all Terry Allen.
50:49No, I don't think he made it.
50:51I think the Cowboys stopped him.
50:53They made measure.
50:55And I don't know where the spot will be, but it appeared that Terry Allen did
50:58not get to the sticks.
51:01Critical measurement coming up as the clock stops on an official's timeout
51:05with 1.07 remaining.
51:13It looks like he's going to be short.
51:15There's a lot of slack in that line.
51:17That's great defense.
51:19Hey, you play big play defense on third down.
51:21It's short.
51:22It's short.
51:23It's short.
51:24It's short.
51:25It's short.
51:26It's short.
51:27It's short.
51:28You play big play defense on third down.
51:30It's short.
51:31Short by about a half a yard.
51:33Decision time.
51:35Now, how good is your offensive line if you're the Washington Redskins?
51:38If you're Jim Hannafin on the sideline talking to Norm Turner, say,
51:41what do you got?
51:43You know what it looks like they've got?
51:45They're saying, we are going to get this first down, and if we don't,
51:48you're going to have a minute left to play to go 75 yards.
51:51Now, the clock will stop on the changeover if the Cowboys stop them,
51:55but the roar you will hear if the Redskins make it will be deafening.
51:59And the Cowboys have held Jim Schwantz,
52:19and the rest of the Cowboys have held Terry Allen,
52:23who lost a yard on that play.
52:26And with 45 seconds remaining,
52:28Wade Wilson and the Cowboys offense have one last shot.
52:31That's a great job by that Dallas defense.
52:34Tremendous job.
52:35Now, look, they've been getting blown off the ball, blown off the ball,
52:38and now it comes time to do it.
52:40You stay low.
52:41You get pressure.
52:42Russell Maryland did a great job.
52:44And then on the outside coming through, boom, making the hits.
52:47That doesn't get much better.
52:48This is great goal line.
52:49Watch Dixon Edwards come down the corner.
52:51See how he flattens out?
52:52That's perfect.
52:55Forty-five seconds and no timeouts for the Cowboys.
53:02Wade Wilson's pass tipped and incomplete.
53:06And it was Darryl Green who got a hand on it.
53:10All right, now this is great football.
53:12Michael Irvin and Darryl Green.
53:14Get the jam.
53:15Don't let him off.
53:16Now you're going to trail him.
53:17You have a safety behind breaking the ball.
53:20Look at that.
53:22I'll tell you, we have been treated to great football today.
53:26All the way around.
53:27You've had the great running.
53:29You've had great defensive plays, receiving, offensive line blocking,
53:33and it's not done.
53:36Second attempt.
53:40Wilson has time.
53:42Pass is caught by Jay Novacek.
53:45Remember, they can't stop the clock.
53:47Robert Bailey.
53:50The best thing that happened right there for the Redskins
53:53was they tackled him.
53:55Jay Novacek.
53:58And third down and four.
54:01Got to go up the field.
54:02Wade Wilson is going for Kevin Williams,
54:04and it's intercepted by Carter.
54:06Carter.
54:15Paul Carter.
54:37Wade Wilson had to make a play.
54:40He had to go deep.
54:43The Redskins knew it.
54:44Tom Carter out jumps.
54:46Kevin Williams takes the ball at his highest point,
54:50and that's a huge victory for the Washington Redskins.
54:54And that is the Redskins' first interception
54:57since the opening game of the year.
54:59And the Redskins will send the Dallas Cowboys
55:02to their first home game of the season.
55:05The Dallas Cowboys to their first defeat of the year
55:09on the heels of the 49ers losing to the Lions on Monday night.
55:13And a dramatic upset win here at RFK.
55:19And our Miller Lite, player of the game,
55:24with a sensational running performance,
55:26is Terry Allen.
55:28Terry Allen.
55:30Nick, I got to tell you, Terry Allen had a great day,
55:33but the offensive line in the Washington Redskins
55:36was the best.
55:39Terry Allen had a great day,
55:41but the offensive line in the Washington Redskins
55:44was the best.
55:46The Washington Redskins was unbelievable.
55:49121 yards, but that line opened up the holes
55:52for number 21 today.
55:54And don't you think that Norb Turner
55:56has been waiting for this day since the day he took that job.
56:01Troy Inkman with Norb Turner
56:03and the respect they have for each other.
56:12Norb Turner lets it go.
56:16Redskins win, and right now let's go down to Pam Oliver.
56:20Hey, man.
56:22You guys, we were talking about the patience.
56:26A lot of patience here today.
56:34Once we got some points on the board,
56:36they were able to keep up and catch them.
56:38You think the Cowboys lost a little of their spunk
56:40when Inkman went out?
56:42Well, any time you start, the quarterback goes down.
56:44That's a big loss to your team.
56:46Wade's a good quarterback,
56:47so they had a good guy coming in,
56:49but to lose a Troy Inkman, that really hurts.
56:51What about your offensive line?
56:52They seemed to do a great job for you.
56:54Oh, they really did a great job.
56:56We wanted to get back to our run game,
56:58and I think they wanted to come out
56:59and be a physical group up front,
57:01and they were able to do it.
57:02All right, thanks a lot. Appreciate it.
57:04Let's go back upstairs to Dickens.
57:06Huge win for the Washington Redskins,
57:09and they now go 2-3 on the year
57:11and 4-1 the record for the Dallas Cowboys
57:13and the rivalry is back.
57:15The rivalry is back, and to be honest with you,
57:17this Washington Redskins team
57:19could very easily have been 4-1.
57:21You take away a couple of calls.
57:23This offense is as good as any in the league.
57:25I'm convinced of it.
57:27Final score, the Washington Redskins win it 27-23,
57:31and coming up after these messages,
57:33we'll have our postgame report
57:35with JB, Terry, Howie, and Jimmy
57:38and a wrap-up of Week 5,
57:40and none could have been more exciting
57:42than the Redskins' stunner over the Dallas Cowboys,
57:45now previously undefeated.
