00:00:52back the other way and Michael
00:00:54Irvin makes the catch so they do
00:00:56all that razzle dazzle and come
00:00:57back to their bread and butter
00:00:58for a 16 yard pick up in the
00:01:00first down.
00:01:01Well it was a good blitz pick up
00:01:02the Giants opening with the
00:01:03blitz against Troy Aikman and
00:01:05they picked it up and picked it
00:01:07up in time for Troy to look over
00:01:09the field it was a good read by
00:01:11Irvin also reading the blitz
00:01:15pretty strong arm to he threw
00:01:16that off balance and whipped it
00:01:18across the field look at that
00:01:18that's just with his arm and
00:01:21like all great and like all
00:01:23great receivers Michael Irvin
00:01:25always makes something happen
00:01:27after the catch very Jerry Rice
00:01:30like in that respect.
00:01:31Here's Emmitt Smith doing a very
00:01:33big first half stop after a game
00:01:34of one up in the 38 yard line.
00:01:36Michael Brooks pounds him back

00:01:45was able to move in there when
00:01:46Mike Kroll came as a free agent
00:01:50for the Denver Broncos and that
00:01:54helps the Giants.
00:01:55It really does help.
00:01:56He's much more effective in the
00:01:57middle.
00:01:58Kroll gives them the ability to
00:01:59come off the corner.
00:02:00He had some success early out in
00:02:03Denver as a as a pass rusher.
00:02:05I think it makes the Giants a
00:02:06little more solid defensively
00:02:10second down and nine some
00:02:11flinching going on up front and
00:02:12flags are down back away the
00:02:18rest prior to the snap ball
00:02:20start right tackle offensive
00:02:22right tackle five yards second
00:02:25down Gary Williams maybe just
00:02:29timing off a little bit.
00:02:31He just played last week for the
00:02:32first time since what a year ago
00:02:34in October.
00:02:35First time back in combat.
00:02:37He just had 17 snaps last week
00:02:40and that's his entire preseason
00:02:42and other than locking up one on
00:02:43one with Charles Haley a little
00:02:45bit and some of the great
00:02:46cowboy defensive lineman.
00:02:48Darn right.
00:02:48This guy is going to feel his
00:02:49way for a while.
00:02:51He's special second and 14.
00:02:54They've been over the middle and
00:02:56there is Kevin Williams taking
00:02:58it to the forty six last year
00:03:00the number three receiver and
00:03:01with the departure of Alvin
00:03:03Harper as a free agent to Tampa
00:03:05Bay he's the number two guy this
00:03:06year 21 yard game.
00:03:08Willie Beeman is locked up one
00:03:10on one with Kevin Williams and
00:03:13just is not able to stay up with
00:03:14it again just out of the slot
00:03:17right across the middle.
00:03:18Nothing fancy about it at all.
00:03:19It's just the pinpoint accuracy
00:03:21of Aikman throwing and the
00:03:23quality of the skill people for
00:03:24the Cowboys and they're taking
00:03:25what they're being given by the
00:03:26Giants defense and they're
00:03:28working underneath and working
00:03:29through the outside not trying
00:03:30to go up high and get anything
00:03:32big until now and they've got a
00:03:35Novak to the 31 yard line and
00:03:37that's another first down in the
00:03:39game and 15 is Jesse Campbell
00:03:42makes the tackle.
00:03:43This is not a tight end beating a
00:03:44linebacker as you so often see
00:03:46this is a tight end thoroughly
00:03:48beating a safety man Jesse
00:03:50Campbell I watched Troy Aikman
00:03:52throw the football and I I think
00:03:54back to what Dan Reeves told us
00:03:55yesterday and this is a man and
00:03:57Dan Reeves who's been around the
00:03:58NFL for a long time and he said
00:04:00Troy Aikman is the most accurate
00:04:03passer he has ever seen and you
00:04:06know Dan Reeves he throws
00:04:07compliments around like manhole
00:04:09covers the most accurate passer
00:04:11he has ever seen in the game and
00:04:14he's got to be Matt Smith and
00:04:20they just do not come out of
00:04:21bounds.
00:04:22That's the good news.
00:04:23The bad news is he gains another
00:04:25twenty nine on a plate for
00:04:26coming down from Ernie Zampezi
00:04:29Emmett Smith has we've all known
00:04:31of his impressive stiff arm but
00:04:33I think Thomas Randolph is the
00:04:35guy that he's stiff arms there
00:04:37and almost embarrasses Randolph
00:04:39Randolph never does get to his
00:04:40body and barely gets him out of
00:04:42the way you wouldn't think for a
00:04:44guy as small as Emmett Smith that
00:04:46he is strong enough to keep a guy
00:04:48away from him watch this he's
00:04:50going to break to the sidelines
00:04:51now let's watch the right arm of
00:04:53Emmett Smith right here there's
00:04:54Randolph twenty three and he
00:04:56just pushed him away and kept
00:04:58him away he gets to the one yard
00:05:02line where Maurice Douglas makes
00:05:03the tackle Emmett Smith now has
00:05:06had the best day of any running
00:05:08back on this first weekend Terry
00:05:10Allen had one hundred thirty one

00:07:14by the Giants this week.

00:07:18Denver he was going to be the
00:07:20successor someday to John Elway
00:07:22and the next thing you know he
00:07:22was with the Rams and couldn't
00:07:24win a spot with them and then
00:07:25Reeves shocked everybody in New
00:07:27York last week by signing Maddox
00:07:29and releasing Kent Graham
00:07:35and then up to the 33 yard line
00:07:39thing about Tommy Maddox is I
00:07:41don't think there are a lot of
00:07:42coaches and general managers in
00:07:43this league that are standing in
00:07:45line to give him a shot and Dan
00:07:48Reeves it only takes one when he
00:07:50went all the way through
00:07:51waivers.
00:07:52And he wasn't a nice guy who
00:07:53could have given him a shot and
00:07:55he wasn't a high priced guy
00:07:56Frank.

00:07:57So but Dan drafted in number one
00:08:00I think it's a 25th and believes
00:08:02that he was in it in 1992 and
00:08:05Dan left and then he left and
00:08:06went with Rams second and four

00:12:34anymore in New York.
00:12:36You know the quarterback is not
00:12:38necessarily always the offensive
00:12:39leader as we watch a throwing
00:12:42and that's knocked down at the
00:12:43goal line by Thomas Randolph.
00:12:45Good coverage that time on Irvin
00:12:46and in this modern era of
00:12:48football a lot of times the
00:12:50the quarterback is the
00:12:52executioner.
00:12:52He is he is the machine that
00:12:54runs the offense.
00:12:56He's hooked up now robotically
00:12:58to the to the quarterback coach
00:13:01and to the offensive coordinator
00:13:02and oftentimes they're not the
00:13:04real leaders of the football
00:13:05team.

00:13:11offensive lineman and blew a

00:13:53they don't do they don't turn
00:13:55the football over the 400
00:13:58handles by Emma Smith with one
00:14:01bottle third and six and that's
00:14:03Jay Novacek breaking his way

00:14:06it's lost at the goal line and
00:14:09Maurice Douglas picks it up.

00:14:34gives it up and Jesse Campbell
00:14:36got a hand in as well.

00:16:29the 20 Herschel made his NFL
00:16:31debut nine years ago tonight.
00:16:33At least it was the opening
00:16:34weekend of the season 1986 and
00:16:37it was his NFL debut.
00:16:39You'll recall he signed with
00:16:40Dallas after playing three years
00:16:42with the New Jersey Generals and
00:16:43made his debut against the
00:16:45Giants.
00:16:46Of course before that he played
00:16:47for the generals here and had a
00:16:49great two or three years with
00:16:51them and overall he's gained
00:16:52thirteen thousand yards in his
00:16:54career.
00:16:55If you put Philadelphia in there
00:16:57and Minnesota and Dallas
00:16:58and the Giants picking him up
00:17:00after they lost Dave make it to
00:17:02try to do some of the things
00:17:03make it did make it now with the
00:17:06Patriots step out and then
00:17:10steps out of bounds up at the
00:17:11twenty three yard line Herschel
00:17:15Walker.
00:17:15Well he's had a long career.
00:17:18I think he's finally getting the
00:17:20respect and the accolades that
00:17:23he's been due.
00:17:24The Cowboys for forty nine games
00:17:26and thirty three hundred yards
00:17:27the Vikings for forty two games
00:17:29and twenty two hundred the
00:17:31Eagles forty eight games and
00:17:32twenty three hundred is the only
00:17:33player in league history with
00:17:35either 20 touchdowns or 2000
00:17:37rushing yards to three different
00:17:39teams and to this day at age 33
00:17:44still plays on special teams and
00:17:47only two of the teams that he
00:17:48played for the years he was
00:17:50there were in the playoff.
00:17:51Yeah that's an amazing thing.
00:17:52Second down and eight and the
00:17:55catch is made by Callaway.
00:17:56That's a great point Frank and
00:17:58it's part of the reason I think
00:17:59he hasn't gotten his due.
00:18:00The fact he's he spent only two
00:18:02seasons on winning teams.
00:18:06Remarkable year with Dallas when
00:18:07he first went there fifteen
00:18:08hundred yards rushing and some
00:18:1050 receptions they use him in
00:18:12just about anything and
00:18:12everything.
00:18:14But again it was not a good year
00:18:17except for Herschel.
00:18:18It's kind of fun watching Jumbo
00:18:19Elliott the left tackle lock up
00:18:21with Shanti Carver the number one
00:18:23draft choice of last year.
00:18:25And he's a great guy.
00:18:26Jumbo is taking him to school a
00:18:28little bit here even though
00:18:29they're certainly on the losing
00:18:31side of the scoreboard third
00:18:33down and three and making the
00:18:37catch and he had the first down
00:18:38before he's wrestled back by
00:18:40Brown and Jones 3 10 to go in
00:18:44the third quarter the Dallas
00:18:46Cowboys picking right up as one
00:18:48of the elite teams in the league
00:18:49twenty eight to nothing they
00:18:51lead it.
00:18:52Most people feel that the
00:18:53forty niners and the Cowboys are
00:18:54a class of their own.
00:18:56One of the problems for the New
00:18:58York Giants I think is that is
00:18:59that when the schedule comes
00:19:00out you spend so many months
00:19:03looking at opening with the
00:19:04Dallas Cowboys and you spend so
00:19:06much time talking about closing
00:19:08that gap see what happens here
00:19:10on display completion but you
00:19:13talk so much and put so much
00:19:15effort into talking about how we
00:19:17have improved how we're able to
00:19:18compete with them how we are
00:19:19able to challenge them for the
00:19:21NFC East title and then you have
00:19:24a three hour span on a Monday
00:19:26night and it kind of comes
00:19:27crashing down and it's going to
00:19:29be very very interesting to see
00:19:31how Dan Reeves is able to
00:19:32regroup his football team because
00:19:34you they spent five months
00:19:36talking about this ballgame and
00:19:38they're getting blown out and
00:19:39that hurts hurts a lot and they
00:19:41have two road games coming up to
00:19:43at Kansas City Chiefs a big
00:19:45winner over Seattle and then at
00:19:46the end of the day first and 10
00:19:55the Dallas territory Darren
00:19:56Woodson makes the stop 10 and a
00:20:01first down Frank.
00:20:03One thing we know about Dan
00:20:04Reeves if it can be done he'll
00:20:06do it.
00:20:08He is one of the he's in that
00:20:10upper echelon of coaches in the
00:20:12National Football League.
00:20:13He's been there and seen it all
00:20:15and I don't think they'll have a
00:20:18problem regrouping.
00:20:18They're just not what they
00:20:19thought they were coming in
00:20:20either that or Dallas is maybe a
00:20:22lot better than they were given
00:20:24credit for being Phil Simms said
00:20:27something on the sidelines that
00:20:28truly could you just have to.

00:38:50accountants and lawyers around

00:38:58really too complex and we don't

00:40:20team's gross revenues that's the

00:40:23share what comprises 5 percent

00:40:29Dallas Cowboys can do better the
00:40:31question is can the Cincinnati
00:40:32Bengals do better can the Tampa
