00:00I'm sorry, the Terengganu Amateur Swimming Association has apologised for sending two
00:06Muslim girls to compete in the diving competition at the recent 21st Malaysian Games without
00:11getting approval from the state government.
00:14Terengganu state-run TV Darul Iman reported that the association's president, Toh Chin
00:19Yao, said it would take full responsibility for the action.
00:22The association said it sent the divers to Kuching, Sarawak on its own initiative, paying
00:27for the trip with help from both the association and the athletes' families.
00:32Although the state government often reminded the association about clothing rules for Muslim
00:36athletes, Toh said the association believed that the dress code set by national and international
00:42swimming bodies would be acceptable.
00:44Yesterday, Terengganu Youth and Sports Executive Councillor Hishamuddin Abdul Karim expressed
00:49shock over reports that two Muslim girls had represented the state in diving at the recent
00:54Sukma.
00:55Hishamuddin said the Terengganu Sports Council's stand is that no female Muslims can represent
01:00the state in diving, given that the required attire does not meet the state's stress code
01:04for Muslim athletes.
