00:00come on man I'm a figure not a doctor here's a look at the brand new Haya toys
00:04Star Trek 2009 exquisite miniseries McCoy
00:30this brand-new dr. McCoy action figure stands 105 millimeters tall and
00:34faithfully reproduces his appearance from Star Trek 2009 he is dressed in the
00:39iconic blue uniform representing medical and science personnel the Starfleet
00:43emblemas clothes the meticulously crafted to medicine bottles and medical
00:47equipment accessories are all finely detailed capturing the essence of his
00:51character even at the 118th scale well you may not see him anywhere near a
00:55transporter but if you wait long enough to the third quarter of 2024 you'll see
00:59the exquisite miniseries of bones popping up online for around $24.99
01:03I'd like if I can to thank the folks over at Haya toys that did make this
01:07review possible by sending over the sample of bones we could have a look at
01:10we've already now looked at Kirk then we looked at Spock now we're moving our
01:13focus over to McCoy the figure though is gonna stand at around the same size at
01:17four inches in height or dr. McCoy is gonna stand a 10 centimeters tall as for
01:22the trekking trio here's what the figure looks like with Captain James D
01:25Kirk and here's what he looks like with Spock sharing very similar Starfleet
01:29suits as Spock both of the figures actually Spock and bones are similar in
01:32size they're still a little bit shorter though than Kirk I keep looking at them
01:36thinking that maybe there's something else that they've added to Kirk and it
01:39can't simply just be his hair the length of the suits are the same it looks like
01:43maybe the length of the legs are also the same and yet though Kirk is taller
01:46than both of them one of the fun little comparisons I thought it would also be
01:49even though we don't really have a movie version of him yet is to bring in Judge
01:53Dredd Judge Dredd also was released from the folks over at Haya and speaking
01:58though of this as a personal fan of the Dredd film I would love if they could
02:02start branching out into the film verse we've gotten a whole lot of comic Dredd's
02:05let's branch into the movie verse where we could get either the Karl Urban
02:09version of him or even dare I say Sylvester Stallone so if you are
02:12expecting similar accessories with bones you might be surprised to see that this
02:15surgeon does have other things that weren't already offered with Kirk and
02:19Spock sure yes the figure does still come include the same display stand
02:22really again no different than I'm not gonna bring in both of them just because
02:25again they're identical to one another but same sort of view screens still wish
02:29that these could have been transporter pads because I think it would just made
02:32most sense obviously if you're gonna have these figures standing on top of
02:35display stands wouldn't transporter pads make the most sense anyways though if
02:39you look at the bottom of these you can see that there's open canals here
02:42there's two here there's two here and again it's just gonna rinse and repeat
02:46all the way around you get yourself as well these eye brackets and so far up to
02:50this point I've been two for two that the eye brackets have been really tight
02:53smart me would have just decided to use the same eye brackets and not tell any
02:57of you but I wanted to at least use the ones that came in clear with the figures
03:00gift the college try they say yeah first time first time doing this by the way
03:05and yeah it just seems like these are really tight I don't know what it is I
03:08mean the eye brackets haven't changed maybe the molding around it has changed
03:11they're just really really tight what I could always really do though is also
03:15use the eye brackets we've gotten from other figure releases from Haya I don't
03:19know maybe that's the thing that's causing this conflict I mean it looks
03:22like maybe they are just a little bit wider and maybe that's one of the
03:25reasons why these aren't attaching as well as they should but the idea though
03:28in mind is obviously you can take them this way and just continue your merry
03:32little way until you go down the street with a whole bunch of these or you can
03:34also go on this side you can again I'm staying the all the obvious things one
03:39of the things though I did want to mention to you guys is the fact again
03:41like Karl Urban's bones does come include some rather different things
03:45that weren't already packed with Spock and Kirk if you had picked up Kirk or
03:49you planning a pickup Kirk as they haven't come out yet both of them come
03:52include the type I don't this would be a type 2 phaser it's a silly phaser
03:56online or on it on the screen because the front of it flips around I've
04:00already mentioned this a couple of times I'm not a big fan of this phaser I
04:03wasn't also really a fan of the communicator and sort of seems like
04:05there's a following trend here generally I don't like the designs honestly of the
04:09Star Trek 2009 film the Enterprise I thought it looked a little ugly I think
04:13also kind of the Starfleet issued weapons and equipment I think are a
04:16little on the uglier side too I mean I will say though for the size that they
04:20are they replicated them nicely enough even though I'm not a big fan of their
04:23designs if you're looking at these though and you're expecting them with
04:27bones you're gonna be disappointed neither one of these actually coming in
04:29clue with the figure what he actually gets though instead is he gets himself a
04:33travel pack now we were talking earlier about the belt if you looked at those
04:37other two reviews the belts weren't made of the same type of material they were
04:40actually used a little more of a harder plastic this is kind of really the more
04:44of the ideal kind of plastic that they should have really used for the belts
04:46just because with those belts I just happen to have one right over here the
04:50plastic does seem like it's a little thicker if you're comparing the two I
04:54just feel like they would have attached a whole lot easier if they were using
04:57the softer plastic gets though a little medic pack not really much in the way of
05:03paint but you can take that and you just put over top of his head so you just run
05:06it up the shoulder and just get it around his head there we go and just run
05:11it off to the side of his body this one sort of did have me stumped the figure
05:15comes in clue with I believe to be a tricorder now again not really loving the
05:19designs of these in the movies the tricorder if this is what it is is a
05:23little bit more simple it kind of looks more like a communication device than
05:26anything else so I could be even wrong by that it gets a holster now here's the
05:30part that has me scratching I just don't know where this is supposed to go I get
05:34the idea that at least this is supposed to be holstered inside here but then
05:37once I got this in here what am I supposed to do with this if you look at
05:41the figure again I just bring his arms up nowhere on the figures body can I see
05:46there's a slot there's a section there's even an embedded magnet that this would
05:50in practical purpose would actually attach to his body I can't see anything
05:55nothing nothing is attracting this to the plastic so I'm not sure why
06:00specifically they gave him like a holster for this if there's no real
06:03place to store this on the figures body even thought down below it may be on the
06:06boots but no no doesn't doesn't attach there either one thing though that will
06:10be lost if I'm not too careful is the figure comes included now online though
06:14they actually listed these as medical bottles I thought they were actually
06:18more hyper sprays myself you get a silver one and then you get like a
06:21copper colored one very very small though I mean it's it's almost next to
06:26impossible to show you guys what this looks like just because of how tiny
06:28these things are but you get a copper one you get a silver one I would have
06:33honestly just called them hypo sprays but apparently online they left them as
06:37medical bottles I've already taken the liberty of swapping out the hand that is
06:40good for holding these although even then just to get this in his hand I'm
06:45not gonna jinx myself by saying anything but you kind of have to really put some
06:49serious pressure in there from the properly hold this at least he has
06:53himself a medical tool and then if you want to you can also take yourself which
06:57again I'm gonna assume this to be the tricorder just get this out of this
07:01holster and he does have you know somewhat of a hand to hold this although
07:05the hand that he gets is basically just a relaxed hand so you're not gonna have
07:08the easiest job of him holding this you kind of want to just have the palm
07:11facing up like this and then sort of hold just holster I mean just even
07:17holster and just have him resting the tricorder on his hand I know he does
07:21also come included to be fair with some other swappable hands but neither really
07:25one of these maybe this one might be the better one because the thumb sticking a
07:28little bit further out yeah yeah taking this just putting the tricorder in his
07:32hand that's no no that's not gonna hold either either way just get that in his
07:37hand the hand just needed that much more of a grip and I think he would have
07:42probably been able to hold it he holds it okay there we go so this is much
07:47better of a hand to hold he also comes in clue with another relaxed hand which
07:50I've already taken the liberty of removing in order for him to hold the
07:52hyperspray so bones does get some other things that weren't packed with the
07:57other two figures let's carefully remove this because I know I'm gonna
08:00drop this and we'll go ahead and take the medic pack off his head as well and
08:06slide that off the side of his shoulder so I was a big fan of Karl Karl Urban's
08:11McCoy in the in the Star Trek films it actually is one of my favorite
08:14characters in the films and I thought he was perfectly cast I feel like he sort
08:18of gets robbed unfortunately here with what I feel to be what could have been a
08:21perfect likeness if to bring back in Spock and obviously to bring back in
08:25Kirk I hate to say that I almost feel like McCoy might be the weakest of the
08:31three head sculpts not that the head sculpt isn't there but again like I
08:35feel like the paint is probably the one things that are causing the face sculpt
08:38to not look 100% right I mean all of them sort of have the same sort of
08:42issues they have really light colored paint and they also add all this
08:46additional pink on the cheeks it wasn't as bad for Kirk and I don't feel it
08:50really was as bad as for Spock because they it still looked a lot like the
08:54actors but I feel like perhaps maybe with McCoy he might be the weakest of
08:58the three uniform standpoint they are exactly the same so if I just bring back
09:02put Kirk down for a second bring back in Spock you can see uniforms are exactly
09:07the same the stripes on their sleeves they didn't have to change at all either
09:10because they share the two as well same similar pants same color same deco same
09:15again like the symbol there on the side corner which by the way I don't know if
09:18I even mentioned in the other two reviews the symbol Starfleet symbol is
09:21actually lifted it's sculpted in place and if you look at really this closely
09:25there seems to be a symbol on the actual well insignia it's got some nice panel
09:31lining there as well this is again using all the soft plastic for the top of his
09:34torso this also it does give him a more decent levels of posability although
09:40again I just feel like it's disappointing that his head sculpt just
09:42isn't as good because I'm such a big fan of McCoy in the films speaking though
09:47of his articulation though starting with his head the head's gonna be on a bowl
09:50joint even though looking at it it looks like it only just swivels all the
09:52way around it's not till you actually start to bend the head up and down do
09:56you realize that there's actually a ball joint just below the collar so the head
09:59does look up and down the only thing about it though is when you move his
10:02head up just by the nature of the softer plastic around it it tends to push his
10:06head back down so you move it up and you can probably see it starts to kind of
10:10rest itself back in a neutral position head does rock back and forth as well
10:14you can take the arms and rotate them all the way around the arms come out at
10:1890 degrees and there is no swivel here in the bicep but what there is though at
10:23least is a swivel here that same swivel also affords the elbow a bend you can
10:28also take the hands rotate them all the way around the upper torso is gonna be
10:32on a ball joint the legs split out and something I did introduce in the review
10:36of Spock is that you can also drop these legs down it as well if you want so it
10:40just gives them a little more higher of reach especially if they're running on a
10:43foreign planet I mean oh it just seems like in the JJ Abrams universe Kirk more
10:48specifically Kirk was getting into trouble and poor bones usually got
10:51tagged along in the way like I said his legs do go forward and back there's a
10:55double bend at the knee that there's of course the articulation there in the
10:58ankle this rocks back and forth and like with these cases of the other two
11:02figures there is of course peggles on the bums of his feet while I do really
11:07think that bones is and I don't even think I know bones was my favorite of
11:10the JJ Abrams universe it's a shame though really that the figure comes up a
11:14little bit short when it comes to the way his likeness is I think I have to
11:18believe that underneath this paint is a likeness that looks a lot more like Carl
11:22unfortunately though by adding the paint that the way they did or maybe just
11:26painting it the color that they did it I feel like with all the three figures now
11:29again this is the wrapping up the reviews of what we've gotten so far from
11:32the exquisite miniseries all three figures truthfully have good-looking
11:37likenesses I think of anything the way that they were painted maybe too light
11:41of a complexion is maybe the thing that robs their likeness being a little bit
11:44more movie accurate I think Kirk is probably still the strongest probably
11:48then Spock and I hate to be in the order of what I've got them in right now
11:51McCoy again comes up just a little bit short one thing that's good though at
11:54least up with with McCoy is that he comes include with accessories that
11:57weren't found already with Kirk and Spock he gets again his medical pack he
12:02gets a couple of hypo sprays which I know I'm just gonna lose and he also
12:05comes include what I'm guessing to be his tricorder still don't know though
12:08why this holster was coming included because again like there's nothing on
12:12the back there's no indication of a magnet there's no hook or anywhere that
12:16looks like it would attach onto his body so while they do include a holster it's
12:20sure fine and good that you can actually take the little device and store it
12:23inside there once you got it stored inside there's no place unfortunately it
12:28seems to put on the actual figure so doing a little looking online and sure
12:31enough that is the Star Trek 2009 medical tricorder that comes include
12:35with McCoy which makes the most sense and then logically I would imagine the
12:39other thing that he has in his hand right now isn't a hypo spray as
12:42originally assumed it in fact is the scanning device that goes along with the
12:45medical tricorder why did everything in the JJ Abrams had to look so simple I
12:50mean you'll never really beat the original classic series tricorder or the
12:54one that we got from the next generation I had to flip out bottom this medical
12:57tricorder sort of just look like something you would see in like an art
13:00museum as a communication device either way though the medical tricorder does
13:05come in clear with a holster it still puzzles me though that the holster has
13:08no place that I can find on the figure that actually attaches it if there isn't
13:12a place to attach it the question then asks is why would they include a holster
13:16in the first place I'm only if anything gonna have the tricorder in his hand the
13:20holster is only just gonna ultimately go back in a bag with all the other
13:24accessories I'm not planning display with the figures speaking of displaying
13:27obviously like the other two bones comes include with a display stand I seem to
13:31be though three for three trying to get the eye brackets attached into those
13:34slots I don't think it's the eye brackets that have changed but I think
13:37the slots where those brackets should go I think have been a little bit more
13:41narrower on the releases of the Star Trek exquisite minis than in earlier
13:45instances before one good thing though about McCoy if you don't like
13:50necessarily the 118th scale you're just not into collecting smaller scale
13:54figures the trek the trios of trekkers will all be getting as well the
13:58exquisite super series treatment Kirk ants and Spock will be getting them as
14:02well as McCoy I think all three of them are also slated to drop in November
14:062024 so if you like what high is doing with Star Trek but you like your figures
14:11just to be a little bit bigger and dressed in real fabric all three of them
14:14are gonna be getting the exquisite super series treatment like I said in November
14:18for around a hundred and three about a hundred and four dollars all in big
