00:00He may have spent his years wandering but you'll spend less time wondering
00:04where you're gonna put him in your collection. Here's a look at the brand
00:07new caustic plastic Toshiro Mifune Ronin.
00:30Step into the world of cinematic greatness with our 1-6 scale Toshiro
00:37Mifune action figure. Paying homage to the iconic Japanese actor, this
00:41collectible piece captures the essence of Mifune's legendary performances in
00:45unparalleled detail. Standing at 12 inches tall, this finely intricately
00:48sculpted action figure brings to life the charisma and intensity of Toshiro
00:53Mifune, known for his unforgettable roles in classic films like The Seventh
00:57Samurai, Yojimbo and Red Sun. Every inch of this figure is a testament to the
01:01craftsmanship and dedication employed in recreating Mifune's distinctive
01:06features, from his facial expressions to the meticulous replication of his
01:10signature costumes. Designed with posability in mind, the Toshiro Mifune
01:14action figure ensures dynamic and realistic movements by allowing with
01:18multiple interchangeable parts, the wide range of original and real metal
01:23accessories, including with the figure and a variety of action-packed positions
01:27to recreate the most famous scenes from his most celebrated films. Some irony
01:31that a ronin is a warrior that has no master, but we though finally get the
01:34master of samurai films from the master of six scale figures. I'd like to thank
01:38the folks over at Caustic Plastic that did provide this sample of the Toshiro
01:41Mifune ronin figure that we could have a look at this review. In fact though,
01:45Caustic was kind enough to send over both the ronin and the samurai, but I
01:49didn't want to actually look at these in separate videos. One thing though is, one
01:52thing to take to note though, is that the ronin is available as a pre-order right
01:55now over on their site. I think he's slated to drop in February 2025, so if
01:59you guys are interested to get your hands on Toshiro Mifune, whether it be
02:02the ronin, whether it be the samurai, or collectively together, you can click the
02:06links down below in the video description. Let's jump though over to
02:09the tape measure and see how tall the figure stands. Toshiro, if I'm looking at
02:12this correctly, is standing at 11 3 quarters of an inch in height, translating
02:16though to a figure that's about 30 centimeters tall. Of Mifune's accessories
02:20though, I wouldn't necessarily consider them to be accessories. Inside the boxes
02:23you get two cards. The first one though, from Caustic Plastic, tells us that the
02:26products are hand-painted and assembled. As a result, there may be a slight
02:29variation between individual items, though all variations will remain within
02:32an acceptable range. You can skip through this certainly if you want to, but the
02:36most important thing you may also want to read is that it says, please keep this
02:39product away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, and high humidity to
02:43prevent damage or deterioration. Now one thing though about Toshiro is that he
02:48doesn't have anything faux leather on him, so the risk of deterioration on the
02:51fabric is probably not going to happen, but the fact that these pieces though
02:54are hand-painted, direct sunlight may cause some risk with those facial
02:58features and other features that are painted fading over time. The other thing
03:02I did want to bring to your attention as well is Toshiro Mifune's 1-6 scale
03:05collectible figure. You get yourself a card that has a sketched image of Toshiro
03:09here featured on the front, so if you did want to have this displayed along with
03:11the figure, you can certainly do that, but though on the back of it, it gives us the
03:15cast and the crew responsible for making this thing a reality. So if you want to
03:19thank anybody, you may want to thank the following individuals. Let's move those off
03:23though to the side. Toshiro though also comes included with a display stand,
03:26though while the stand is made of plastic, this is actually I believe the
03:30exact same stand as Toshiro's samurai figure is also gonna be
03:34gifted as well. It does have the placard featured on the front done in both
03:37bronze and gold. The image on the top is sort of a cobblestone walkway. It's got
03:42some grass in there as well. It's basically just an applied sticker. What
03:45you can't though see because the stickers on top of it is an embedded
03:48magnet. The thing that was clever though about this release is that on the bottom
03:52of the sandals of Toshiro, there's actually embedded magnets. So when you
03:56put him onto the display stand, for example, he's gonna hold his attraction. I
03:59wish though more companies could really do this. It just makes things so much
04:02more simpler. The thing about it though is when you are putting him down on the
04:05display stand, as you turn in certain areas, you can see that he attaches a
04:08little bit better than some. Like when you move him right there, you can see
04:11that it seems to be like a magnet right there, and if you move him back just a
04:14little bit, it catches the other magnet there. So let's move those off also to
04:18the side. The figure then also comes with two
04:22weapons. The first one that I guess we'll have a look at though is a
04:25katana. Now the katana does have a real metal blade. Don't worry, it's not sharp
04:29to the touch. Although it kind of does feel like it's got a bit of a bird edge,
04:32but it doesn't feel like it's gonna be drawing any bit of
04:34blood. I love the sheen though of the metal blade. Of course the guard and the
04:38hilt are also painted here as well. Now what you get this and you also get as
04:42well a tanto, or basically a small dagger. The dagger is also handled the
04:46exact same way. Handles are pretty much exactly the same too, but they both also
04:49have metal blades. The thing that's cool though about them is that both the
04:52blades also have themselves sheaths. So if you want to say, for example, take the
04:56tanto, you can slide it inside the sheath and then of course you can just loop it
04:59onto it. You don't really necessarily loop it onto his belt. I'll show you guys how
05:02that works in a second. Also take as well the katana and sheath it into the sheath.
05:06You don't have to make the noise while you're doing that though either. And you
05:10can then take these and if you look at the figure, on the front though of his
05:14skirting there's a belt loop here and the loop allows for a little bit of
05:18clearance that you can then take yourself the sheaths and slide them in
05:22place. Now you can have these the way that you want. I think in the
05:26beginning of this review, for example, I had the tanto, I think a little bit
05:29further back, but again like you don't have to have them the way that I have
05:32them right now. We'll just kind of sheath them into the loops there of his belt
05:36just like that and then he's got them right on the ready for when he needs
05:40to draw them. And again just pull them out like that. The figure does also come
05:45included. I'll just grab it right over here. His water bottle here. Now the water
05:50bottle does also have a little loop here on the top so you can just loop it
05:53through his belt. It's nicely painted. I think it's a
05:56Hayatan bottle if my memory serves me correctly. It's painted here sort of like
06:00the coloring of guess of a brown gourd and they got some threading here done
06:04in copper and again the little loop there on the top. There isn't necessarily
06:08though a hook on the side so if you are looking for example to put the Hayatan
06:12bottle there, I just kind of took the loop and I fed it through
06:15that same belt strap and sort of holds it well in place. The thing that's also
06:20rather interesting though about Toshiro, I'm just going to put everything down here
06:24for a second, is the way that they handled his arms. Now normally when we
06:27have kind of looked at six scale figures here on this channel before, what you
06:31tend to usually get is a standard regular arm. Of course it's attached
06:34though to the elbow and then you basically are just removing and
06:37detaching the the hands accordingly to what hands you need to have him to use
06:40or to wield his weapons with. What's interesting though about
06:44Caustic Plastics approach to Toshiro is that instead of rather actually having
06:48removable arms or hands, what they did instead though was they
06:52included several different swappable arms. It gives us first of all a clean
06:56seamless look so there's nothing where the obviously the separate hand is
07:00detached from the rest of the form. It sacrifices though a
07:04little bit of posability because now you obviously can't get in there and start
07:07rotating hands. What we then do instead is that you just simply just pop the
07:11arms off from the peg. I'll do that in a second and then you can just replace the
07:14arms accordingly that way. A very realistic approach to the way they
07:17painted this. Again each one of the arms are very different from one another so
07:21like for example we try to get like-to-like here. He sort of has two
07:25somewhat relaxed hands. This one is probably the most relaxed of the
07:29bunch. You also get this hand here also as well. This is a perfect hand as well
07:33if you want to have him pose with his hand just underneath his chin. Maybe in
07:37fact he'll actually use that hand. The figure does also come included with a
07:39couple of other gestured hands but again like the the more realistic approach
07:43really handles well for this figure. These are also done in a much softer
07:46plastic too. One of my real concerns though is when you start to kind of
07:49detach arms like this, would that cause a risk in breaking? Well right away though
07:54being the fact they are using a rubbery material, changing out the arms was super
07:58simple. He does also of course have a hand suitable for holding either one of
08:03the handles though for the tanto or the katana. Now to change out the arms maybe
08:06what I'll do first is we'll just kind of take the sheets out just because I know
08:10when we look at the articulation on the figure I'm sure those are only going to
08:13get in the way. So if you roll up though the sleeve just like that. The kimono by
08:20the way we'll talk more also about this as well. I think the material that
08:23they've done here is exceptionally good but if we just kind of roll up the
08:26kimono for at least right now the way that the arms work they work the same
08:30way as pretty much every other six scale figure on the market. So you've got
08:32double hinges on the elbows but it's clever though the way that they've done
08:36this. So basically what you do is you hold on to the bicep area like this and
08:39you just kind of wiggle these back and forth. You probably already heard that
08:43sound as it basically you know separated itself from the peg. Then find a hand
08:48that you want to then use and there's the peg hole right on the bottom on the
08:52inside there. Of course it's just going to attach on to the peg here. Slide it
08:55then back in place and again it's very secure even though really like his bicep
09:01is the plastic and his forearm is again more that rubber material. It's a pretty
09:05consistent looking color and again then if you want to you can just bring the
09:09arm up here for example and you can kind of have him kind of in deep thought. Just
09:14really love the way that they handle this. I mean again it does sacrifice
09:18swivability in the actual hands. You can't turn them like regular
09:21hands would be but simply just find the hand that you want to then use and just
09:24attach the forearm accordingly. This whole time of course we're looking at
09:29all these other things. Let's actually look at the head sculpt here. So first
09:31of all Toshiro Mifune has two variations. I wanted to look at first
09:35the Ronin before we actually jumped over to the Samurai. Of the two that
09:40were provided me by Caustic Plastic, I actually think that the Ronin is the
09:43better looking head sculpt just out of personal preference more so. The Samurai
09:46as you'll see in the upcoming review has more cleaner finish on his face so he's
09:51shaven. I like the stubblier look more so for Mifune's face. He's got of course
09:55the sideburns there on the side, hair done back in the back there. It's very
09:59sculpted well too. Again these are all very carefully hand-painted and you can
10:04see the meticulous work that Caustic Plastic's talented team behind the
10:07scenes put into sculpting and painted Mifune's face. Now the head sculpt, if we
10:12kind of just move away here's Kimono here, you can see that one thing the
10:17figure doesn't have though is he doesn't have a secondary bulge right at the base
10:20of the neck. I think the most important thing that they wanted to execute here
10:23when it came to recreating Mifune's likeness was most realistic likeness
10:27that they could possibly pull off. I think now getting away with a double
10:30hinge so you don't have like a bulge right down at the base of the neck keeps
10:33the neck and the face and the rest of the body for that matter a
10:36little bit more realistic. One thing he also does have as well is the Mifune
10:41family crests on the side of his kimono. I think as well the Samurai figure is
10:45also gonna have the same thing as well. This looks like it's been printed in
10:49place and it's pretty it's pretty sharp as well. It's very easy to make out
10:54what's going on there. If I just move back the kimono just a little bit
10:57because I just don't want to damage it too much, you can see a well sculpted
11:00body, very muscular body there underneath. Of course he's got also as well his
11:04belt and down below here he's got as well, let me just move everything out of
11:07the way here, he's got his brown Hakama pants. Now the pants are very baggy but
11:11they are very well creased too, accurate to the way that they look in the Samurai
11:15films. I will say though like the material is done well too. It's got a
11:19little bit of a soft feel to it. I can only hope though the cameras be able to
11:23pick that up properly. It isn't as it isn't quite the same material that they
11:26use for the top of the the kimono for example. Like the material down below for
11:30the pants feels like it's almost got, I don't want to say like suede, but it
11:33feels like it's got a little bit more of a softer finish to it. Of course if we
11:37just kind of move up the pants here for a second. Underneath though you can see
11:40that he also does have himself with sandals. Now the sandals, basically what it
11:44is, is like the main piece here is all encased in plastic. So when it comes to
11:49rotating this guy around, you can feel that there's a little bit going on
11:52behind the scenes with ankle articulation. You can still move it back
11:55and forth but being that this is all harder plastic, you're not going to get
11:59as much as if this was a separate piece from the rest of the leg above. Now for
12:02the figure's articulation, let's just kind of fix the pants here, going back
12:05though up to the very top. Now when it comes to the Toshiro, we've already
12:09discussed the fact that the head is only going to be on a ball joint so it allows
12:11the head to rotate all the way around. It looks still fairly high up and down. I
12:15was actually really impressed to see how far lowering down, like look down, the
12:19character's head could actually go. The head can also rock back and forth also
12:23as well. One thing though is when you are detaching the head, the head is actually
12:27sitting basically on side of what almost looks to be like a can-shaped peg. So
12:31instead of relying on just a ball joint alone, this makes things down the road so
12:35much simpler if you want to change out the head skulls. I would imagine though
12:38without actually opening up the samurai just yet, that the Toshiro samurai is
12:43probably going to work the same way. That maybe lends the idea that if you did
12:47want to change the heads around you could do that because they're probably
12:49going to attach the exact same way. Let's put the head back in place here. As for
12:55what's underneath his kimono, the figure does seem to have an upper torso ball
12:59joint and it moves quite quite easily. The arms easily hinge out, no problems
13:03whatsoever there. You can get a full T-pose happening. The arms move forward
13:07and back and if we just move up the sleeve here for a second, he also does by
13:10the way have a family crest there on the side and if we flip it around to the
13:13back on the back of the kimono, he does also have the Mifune crest there too.
13:17But if we just kind of roll up the sleeves here for a second, so the figure
13:20does have a swivel in the bicep. You can see the figure does also possess a
13:23double hinge on the elbow and even though like the materials are different
13:26from the bicep to the sleeve or to the forearms, again I think the
13:30coloring is still pretty close. Sleeves are going to cover over it anyways. As for
13:34the legs, they split out about that far. You can of course take the legs and
13:38move them forward. You can move them back and if we just kind of move up the
13:41Hakama pants here for a second, I want to first of all also show you guys as
13:45well what it looks like underneath. So it does look like they've added just a
13:48little bit of padding there to the tops of the thighs just to beef them up just
13:51a little bit. There's though a swivel at the top of the thigh. The figure still
13:55possesses a double hinge on the knee and as we already had discussed, we just kind
13:58of bring the pants back down here, his feet or his sandals for that matter,
14:03even though there is a little bit more limitations with what you can do with
14:06them, they still have some freedom, some luxuries to be able to move back and
14:10forth. I love this figure and of the two available that were made available by
14:15Caustic Plastic, I did want to look at the Ronin one first. Just out of personal
14:18preference, I do actually like the look of Toshiro Mifune more so with the
14:21stubble on his face whereas though when we look at the Samurai, not only though
14:25with his outfit, his kimono will change obviously with the
14:31choosing with it, but also I just think like the coloring for the black and the
14:34Hakama pants and brown work a little bit better for the character for his
14:36accessories though. He doesn't have a lot though, I mean obviously only has really
14:40just the tanto and the katana, but both of them do have sheets and that can
14:44easily be stored on the side of his belt. He's also as well got his Yoto
14:47hyoten bottle, his water bottle, but the thing that's kind of the most
14:51interesting about this figure is the fact he does have the way that they
14:54opted for swappable hand features. Instead of worrying about just simply
14:58changing the hands out every single time, they gave us a fully seamless looking
15:02arm. I mean it does limit some of the pose ability, you're not gonna be able
15:05to rotate the hand as normal six scale figures would grant you, but one thing
15:09that's good about it though is that whatever pose you really want to put the
15:12figure actually in, Cosmic Plastic basically has the arms accordingly for
15:16that. The thing I also really like about the figure is the fact he does have
15:18himself a display stand that also has a magnetic attachment, so you don't even
15:22have to worry all the fuss and all the must with having to get this guy onto a
15:25cradle stand. Just putting him onto a magnetic stand works so much simpler.
15:29Toshiro Mifune was a beloved actor in the 40s and 50s, so much in fact so that
15:34George Lucas at one point had reached out to the Mifune to ask him if he'd
15:38play the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original 70s Star Wars films. Could you
15:42imagine if Toshiro had played Obi-Wan Kenobi instead of Alec Guinness?
15:45Unfortunately though Mifune had passed away in 1997, but what he leaves behind
15:50though is a lasting impression for fans of samurai films. Cosmic Plastic I feel
15:55has done a true tribute to Toshiro, giving him not only a realistic likeness
15:59that looks like he stepped out of the silver screen, but also as well weapons
16:02that he can wield. The figure first does come in clear with a katana and tanto, two
16:06things that I've already got the figure currently displayed with. One thing
16:09though I did leave off was the figure does have also his hyoten bottle. The
16:13little water bottle can be also just strapped onto the side of his belt. I
16:16just left it off for final looks and one thing I did certainly make use of is the
16:19swappable arm treatment that they've given this figure. Instead of changing
16:23out hands like traditionally you would do, the figure instead you swap out the
16:26arms at the elbow area, which gives you again a more seamless look to the figure
16:31and makes him even more realistic than he could have been before. What do you
16:34guys though think of Toshiro Mifune, the Ronin figure? Of course we are gonna be
16:38looking at this sort of treat this as a two-part. As the second part of the
16:42videos we will be also looking at Toshiro Mifune, the samurai. If you guys
16:46are also interested and would like to get your hands on the Ronin version of
16:49Mifune, he is right now as a pre-order over on Caustic Plastic. Don't worry,
16:54don't worry, I can put the link down below in the video description if you
16:56guys are interested to add this one to your collection. As far as I know I think
16:59he's gonna start to ship in February but as of right now he's listed as a pre-order.
17:03A big thank you again to the folks over at Caustic Plastic that did provide the
17:07sample of the Toshiro Mifune Ronin figure that we could have a look at this
17:10review. If you guys did enjoy this video you can do it a solemn throw to like but
17:14if you guys want to stick around for more so and especially the review of
17:17Mifune, the samurai, then make sure if you haven't already done so that you hit
17:21the subscribe and that you turn on the bell. And of course as always thanks for
17:25watching. See you guys next time!
