00:00The Development Bank of the Philippines has offered support to those who are affected by these calamities.
00:06Clazel Pardilia with the report.
00:10More than P100 million Pesos worth of land was left in the agriculture sector
00:16by the following typhoons, Ferdie, Henner, and Helen.
00:20According to the Department of Agriculture,
00:221,600 hectares of rice, a high-value crop, were destroyed in Mimaropa, Western Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsulas.
00:32In addition, 1,300 farmers were affected by the calamity.
00:37Our rice, corn, and vegetables were pre-possessed.
00:44Our farmers are now ready to plant again in these areas.
00:50Of course, our indemnification is under the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation.
00:56The DA assured the distribution of free rice, fat, and other uses for farming.
01:03The Development Bank of the Philippines assured support from the Agripuhunan and Pantawig Program of the agency.
01:11Under the program, farmers are given the opportunity
01:17to borrow up to two hectares of rice from Puhunan for farming.
01:22The first thing they do is go to the stores or distributors, or merchants,
01:29to get rice, fertilizer, and pesticides.
01:32When they start farming, they already have an interest and loan.
01:39They will pay 15 to 20 percent interest monthly.
01:44We are looking for a program that will really help them.
01:47With the help of the Agripuhunan and Pantawig Program,
01:51the DVP received an Interventions Monitoring Card with a credit limit of up to Php 60,000.
01:58Php 28,000 can be used to buy fat, pesticides, and other farm inputs from the DVP's accredited stores.
02:09Farmers receive Php 8,000 monthly for four months.
02:15Farmers usually produce up to five to seven tons of rice
02:20to ensure that their families can afford to buy enough rice whenever there is a calamity.
02:28Five tons of rice will be sold to the National Food Authority
02:33for less than Php 21 per kilo.
02:39Php 21 per kilo for five tons or Php 5,000.
02:44That is Php 105,000 per hectare.
02:48Let's reduce the credit we gave them to Php 60,000 per hectare.
02:54The difference is now Php 45,000.
02:57They can now earn that Php 45,000.
03:00The program advanced Php 8,000 per month for four months.
03:05That is Php 32,000.
03:06It's like you gave them an advance income.
03:09That is Php 77,000 net per hectare to our beloved farmers.
03:19If there are more rice,
03:21farmers will surely earn more.
03:24Only 2% of the annual interest will be collected by the DVP.
03:30The insurance will be provided to the farmers
03:32so that if there is a calamity,
03:34they don't have to worry about the farmers and pay for it.
03:37It is a game changer.
03:39It is a real help for our beloved farmers.
03:44The program raised Php 3 billion.
03:48At present, 50,000 farmers are the target to be benefited by the DVP.
03:53The program was first launched in Gimba, Nueva Ecija
03:57and expanded to Cordillera, Pangasinan, and other places in the Philippines.
04:03The DVP told us that only one Interventions Monitoring Card is prohibited
04:08and that the agency will conduct field monitoring.
04:12That is to ensure that the program is being used correctly.
04:17Kalaysal Pardiliya for Pambansang TV in the new Philippines.
