00:00Can you say hard hats, folks?
00:07Hard hats?
00:08Lunch pails?
00:09Steel tools?
00:10Boots?
00:11Anything short of a championship this year is a fail.
00:12Look at this boomer right here.
00:13You've just got so much talent here.
00:15Somebody said we need to apologize for Jaylen.
00:17Can I call the John?
00:18What are we apologizing for?
00:19What did we say?
00:20What did we do?
00:21Hey.
00:22Bobby Manning here.
00:31Welcome to another Garden Report Celtics postgame show.
00:34A Shroud Blakely joining me remote.
00:37I'm here at TD Garden where the Celtics won again a 30 point advantage, slipped down the
00:42four pretty quickly in the second half as the Celtics went all the way to the back of
00:48their bench in this one.
00:50All the regular contributors setting out, Tillman and Cornett among them, so that led
00:56to a K to spot start, Lonnie Walker and Jordan Walsh getting into the starting unit along
01:00with Peyton Pritchard and Sam Hauser who always play.
01:04So good things, positive things to hold from this one.
01:08Definitely got a little shaky here the deeper you got into the bench here in this one, but
01:13on the wing, Lonnie Walker, another strong game.
01:16I got up to nine for it, up to nine for it, up to one point between last game and this
01:19game before finishing, I believe, eight of 15 in this one.
01:24So strong stuff from him, about 30 minutes overall for him.
01:28Joe said yesterday after all the positive things he did in Saturday's game that he was
01:33going to get plenty of opportunity in this one.
01:36He came through a couple of threes early, an acrobatic finish for a second chance bucket
01:40after Cato's offensive rebound on one of those early plays and just kept finding spots
01:46to score on the floor, which is what he does, which is what you knew he was capable of coming
01:50into this team.
01:52And does it draw him any closer to making this roster?
01:56I don't know.
01:57But the work he's put in this preseason showing the perseverance through some of these other
02:04stops that didn't work out, obvious, but still that he can go to Maine, work on some
02:13of the other parts of his game, try to fit in here and work his way up the way some other
02:18younger players have.
02:20Yeah.
02:21Lonnie's in a really awkward predicament here right now because, you know, when he goes
02:27to Maine, he's clearly going to be one of, if not the best player on the floor almost
02:32every night.
02:33He is definitely one of those guys that you can see in a G League who frankly shouldn't
02:38be in a G League.
02:39He's an NBA player.
02:40He's an NBA rotational type of player.
02:42And yet he is with a Boston Celtics team where there is no clear path for him to play, even
02:47if they were to guarantee his contract.
02:50There's no guarantee that he'd get minutes.
02:52And it's no knock against him and says everything about how deep this team is.
02:57So these are the kind of games that I think serve as a reminder to anyone and everyone
03:02as to how good a player Lonnie is and just how big a head scratcher it is that of the
03:0729 other teams in the NBA, not one of them had enough foresight to maybe offer this guy
03:13a guaranteed deal.
03:14Because we're going to see very quickly this year, there's going to be a significant number
03:20of teams that are going to have this need for a shot making wing.
03:26And you're going to say, well, gee, there aren't any wings out there.
03:29And it's like, yeah, there was one that was out there who was literally just sitting there
03:33for anyone for the taking.
03:35And he had to settle for an Exhibit 10 contract, which to me is insane.
03:39When you look at his skill set, you look at his talent, you look at his experience.
03:42He's a 25 year old who's been in the league like six, seven years.
03:46That's not normal.
03:48And so Lonnie, again, to me, with Lonnie Walker, it's just another example of the rich getting
03:53richer when you look at what he can do, what he brings to the table and what the Celtics
03:58already have on stock.
04:02Yeah, and tonight, more of the Walker we know, the scorer, the shooter, that sort of thing.
04:07I think yesterday's game, you saw some of the passing, you saw some of the little things
04:11come through.
04:12I'm interested to hear what Joe thought of his performance here overall, because I think
04:15it's the other things that they're looking for.
04:16They want him to be a secondary contributor and all the little ways.
04:20And that's where Jordan Walsh, I thought, shined again in this game.
04:24Good to get the shooting from him where you get it, but playing close to the basket, finishing
04:30around the rim, being patient on the dribble and the ten rebounds, especially that one
04:35where he got Peterson, the two free throws right before the end of the third quarter.
04:40Third quarter.
04:41Third things Joe loves and that I think Joe's going to notice among these guys who are fighting
04:47for spots on the edge of the roster and minutes at that like 10th, 11th, 12th man spot.
04:54This is what they need alongside their scorers and their creators and all the other stuff
04:59they have at the front end of the roster is a guy to come there and grab these offensive
05:03rebounds, clean up shots around the rim and take advantage of spaces out there for him.
05:10You still don't see the shooting, even though he is floating around 40% for this preseason,
05:15limited number of shots, still doesn't feel like he has great shooting in him.
05:21All the other stuff is starting to show along with a patient approach, along with less erratic
05:28play that we saw over the summer.
05:31The big thing with him is that he looks like a guy who's figured out how to slow down and
05:38let the game come to him.
05:39I thought last season whenever he got on the floor, he was going 120 miles an hour in a
05:45zone, clearly just so excited and energetic and hyped when he was out there.
05:52Now he's still bringing you energy, but it's controlled energy.
05:55It's more focused energy.
05:57He's figured out how to channel all that high energy that we know is in him in a positive
06:03way without just being all over the damn map with it.
06:07His shot making, I like to see because the shots that he's taking and making for the
06:11most part are open looks.
06:13That's what you want.
06:15To your point, Bobby, I don't think Jordan Walsh will ever be considered a great shooter,
06:20but that doesn't mean he can't be a pretty good one.
06:23To me, his value for this team is the ability to make open shots.
06:27If he's able to do that at a relatively high clip or relatively average or slightly above
06:32average clip, then he's going to be fine.
06:35He's going to be able to help this team because when you play with guys like Tatum and Brown
06:39and Presangus, Drew Holiday to some extent, Derek White, those guys, when you're on the
06:45floor with them, are going to draw more attention than you if your name is Jordan Walsh.
06:49Because of that, you may get some opportunities to knock down some wide open looks.
06:53You need to be confident and comfortable in doing that.
06:56That's what this preseason is about for him.
06:58It's just really figuring out ways that you can be comfortable and confident and connect
07:02on opportunities and plays to help this team win.
07:05Because you know you're not going to be playing 20, 25, 30 minutes a night.
07:08If Drew Holiday is having a load management kind of night and maybe there's another injury,
07:14you might be called upon to play a more significant role if you're Jordan Walsh.
07:19Having the comfort level and just frankly some reps in the preseason to be comfortable
07:24when your number is called, that's huge for him.
07:27Yeah, so 6-16 for him from three so far this preseason.
07:32Again, not a ton of shots to go off.
07:35But he did get himself to around 35 up in Maine last year.
07:38I think that's what you're looking at from him at the high end, 35, 36, 37, if he can
07:44get it going and find a consistent stroke from three.
07:50A lot of the stuff we continue to hear about him is 3 and D, 3 and D.
07:54I actually like when he's playing around the basket.
07:57He's so long.
07:59He's so agile in there.
08:02He just has such great reach up around the rim that whether he's just tapping in offensive
08:06rebounds as we saw at times tonight, reaching past the defender and making that last effort
08:13to just put it up and in there.
08:15I like him in that spot.
08:18The other thing you have to consider here is yes, he might be hitting the threes.
08:21He might have those stretches where it's there for him, but our defense is respecting it.
08:26That's what really matters at the end of the day.
08:27Our team's guarding him or they're closing out on him.
08:29Is he actually pulling defenders away from the basket?
08:33That's what spacing is all about.
08:35I think that's a big reason he didn't play a ton last year.
08:39You're still wondering, all right, when he's out there in a real situation on this team
08:44alongside some of the main guys, is he someone who can space the floor for them in that role?
08:50Or does he need to be a guy who screens a little bit, rolls a little bit, plays closer
08:54to the basket?
08:56I still think right now in his development, that's where he's stronger.
09:00That's where he can actually find a mark on this team.
09:03And there actually are.
09:04I know people keep comparing him to that O'Shea role.
09:06I think there's some parallels there.
09:08He's capable of offensive rebounding, maybe not at an O'Shea level, but pretty close.
09:12He's capable of cleaning up a lot of messes around the rim and just putting shots up and
09:17in.
09:17And I think his screening game's come a long way.
09:20So I said this to Noah early in the preseason try, I don't want the three to be the reason
09:25he doesn't play.
09:26There's got to be some other ways that they can fit him in there.
09:29Yeah, I think you mentioned one of those ways, which is just being a really elite screener.
09:34But in that regard, his ability to knock down open shots is going to be crucial to him getting
09:40on the floor, because the guys that he'll be playing with are going to create those
09:44opportunities.
09:44And I thought we saw tonight what happens when Jordan Walsh knocks down a couple of
09:49perimeter shots.
09:50All of a sudden, the defense, just by simple instincts, you're going to try to close out
09:55on him better.
09:56And that allows him to put the ball on the floor.
09:58He had a couple of nice finishes around the basket, off the dribble, getting a bounce
10:03pass.
10:05Yeah, and so his ability to recognize when defenses are reacting to a shot making is
10:11critical to his overall development and growth, because those opportunities are going to be
10:16there.
10:16And the thing that we sometimes lose sight of is that he's playing with guys in Jason
10:21Tatum and Jalen Brown, who know by the end of the night, they are going to get their
10:26shots.
10:26There's no ifs, ands, or buts about that.
10:28And if you have a chance to get a couple of shots off that are relatively easy, whether
10:32it's a layup drive, or whether it's rolling to the basket, and one of those guys finds
10:37you for a potential layup in traffic, figure out ways to contribute in a multitude of areas.
10:43That has to be the Jordan Walsh playbook, finding ways to impact the game in other ways
10:50besides scoring.
10:50Because I do think that his offensive game has improved.
10:54And he's a definite better, I think, threat in that regard.
10:58But that being said, you still have to figure out, you have to do all those little things,
11:02because they have enough guys who can carry the load, so to speak.
11:06They need guys who can fill in those gaps, fill in those cracks that, you know, frankly
11:11go overlooked and don't get the credit they deserve, but are important when you're trying
11:15to win a championship.
11:17Again, and so Jordan Walsh, like I said, I think this was a really good game for him
11:20because I think he did a lot of really good things.
11:23The stats are going to jump out for a lot of people, but to me it was his ability to
11:27impact the game, even when he didn't have the ball.
11:29I thought his presence was noticeable out there, and that's, to me, that's the sign
11:33of a young player who's understanding how to be an elite, or at least an above average
11:40and tangible guy to guy.
11:42He's a big pleasant surprise.
11:44Here's Joe Mizzou we're talking right now after the game.
11:47Any other questions?
11:49All right, good work, Don.
11:51Thanks, Joe.
11:51Thanks.
11:53Guess we missed Joe.
11:54All right, we'll see if there's anything worth playing from him, but plenty of players
11:58to come.
11:59I'm sure Jordan's going to talk after this one.
12:01Lonnie Walker, Lonnie Walker, Lonnie Hall, he spoke in the locker room last night after
12:05another strong performance.
12:06So plenty of reaction coming from this game as the Celtics head into the late stages of
12:11the preseason.
12:11Wrestling guys Tatum, Brown, White, Holliday, Horford, as well as Xavier Tillman all sat
12:17this game out.
12:18We are brought to you by PrizePix.
12:21The football weekend's over, but never too early to start looking ahead to next week.
12:26Monday game as well, about to get going tomorrow night.
12:29So great opportunities to build a weekly fantasy team, a daily fantasy team.
12:36And the best part is you're not committed all season.
12:39Guys go down, your full season team just gets demolished by injuries, or your team just
12:45stinks.
12:46So there's a chance to start fresh and do it every week, even every day if you want
12:52to.
12:52Baseball playoffs are going right now.
12:55Plenty of options say, you know, build a team, pick more or less on their stat projections
13:01and win.
13:02So baseball, as I mentioned, WNBA finals going on right now.
13:07This is really the most popping sports time of the year.
13:10You got football every week.
13:13You got so much going on, even basketball getting started in about a week from now.
13:17And just a teaser, free Anthony Edwards Square coming up.
13:21We'll tell you about that more in a couple of days here.
13:24But right now, go over there, use the code CLNS, play $5 and get $50 instantly on America's
13:32number one fantasy sports app, PrizePix, our official daily fantasy sports partner.
13:38And best part right now, injury insurance.
13:41Guy goes down in the first half, your team stays in play for the second half over at
13:46PrizePix.
13:47So go check them out.
13:48Again, use that code CLNS, play $5, get $50 instantly over at PrizePix.
13:54So Kader got a solid start in this one, Sherrod.
13:58The two things that he still needs to work on flash, and you got a million rebounds here,
14:03though a lot of them came on his own misses, that finishing early and often.
14:07A couple of point blank looks in there.
14:09He just couldn't put in.
14:10Brought me back to that first summer league game he played against the Heat, I think it
14:15was, where he's right there and just can't put it in.
14:17And you got to be able to convert those, especially when you're the guy they're going to be looking
14:21for in the pick and roll there.
14:22Now credit to him for being able to track down a lot of those misses, kick them out
14:27and get some other guys shots in there.
14:29But when the regular season starts, when he's in there in a big spot, those misses are going
14:33to matter.
14:35He's got to be a 60-70% shooter, I'd say.
14:40And when he creeps down to closer to 50% or below in this case, that's where it becomes
14:45a problem for him on the offensive end.
14:47You still see him craning out of the high post, which is nice.
14:50You still see him in different positions on defense, and they're looking for that sweet
14:54spot.
14:54Where's he going to be most impactful?
14:56On that end of the floor right now.
14:58But this one, tough, because he just had some looks in there that you just got to be able
15:04to finish.
15:05Yeah, yeah.
15:06I mean, if you go back and you watch this game from beginning to end and you just look
15:09at where he was offensively and the opportunities he had, if you didn't watch the end of those
15:14particular plays, you'd think he had about 20 points because he had that many really
15:18good looks at the basket.
15:20He's got to be better in that regard.
15:22And part of that is just him getting more experienced, getting more comfortable, understanding
15:26what he can and cannot do.
15:28And the Celtas continue to find ways to keep him involved, keep him engaged, make him an
15:33active participant in what they're doing and do so in a way that involves him being
15:36more than just a screener.
15:38I think he's one of the better players when it comes to rolling to the basket because
15:44he's got really, really good leaping abilities.
15:46He's got a good frame to play above the rim.
15:50And the rebounding is awesome.
15:52I mean, he's in terms of his ability to his first and second jump might be the best, the
15:59fastest from one to two on his team.
16:02The fact that he can get off the ground so quickly and even if he's coming down for a
16:08rebound and isn't in position, he's able to get up really quick.
16:11It's very Time Lord like in that regard.
16:15And that's great to see if you're the Celtics because obviously this is a guy that the Celtics,
16:21when they signed him this summer, it was clear that they're looking to develop him over time,
16:25that they don't expect him to be a finished product right now, which is fine because you've
16:29got Al, you've got Luke, you've got Tillman.
16:32So you don't necessarily need him to be that guy right now, but you definitely want to
16:37see progress.
16:38You definitely want to see him become better at some of the little things like finishing
16:43at the rim, Bobby, I think is spot on.
16:45I think that's probably his greatest weakness at this point is just his ability to consistently
16:50finish at the rim on shots that he should be making.
16:53On a worst case scenario, this guy should be shooting in the high 50s from the field.
16:57Worst case scenario, because the shot he's going to be getting are all for the most part
17:02going to be point blank range.
17:03He hasn't shown any type of consistent comfort shooting the ball from outside the paint.
17:08And that's fine because you've got plenty of guys who can shoot mid range and can shoot
17:12threes and as well as guys who can stretch the floor from that four or five spot.
17:16You need guys who can score at the basket, at the rim, who can play above the rim at
17:20both ends of the floor.
17:21And he, in terms of his athleticism, in terms of his ability, is one of the best options
17:26they have in that regard.
17:29Yeah.
17:29And I'll give him three for seven in this one because one of those is a heave tossed
17:33up a three at the end of the shot clock there.
17:35So really a three for seven game from K to inside the arc.
17:38The assist people point out in the chat.
17:40Good point there too.
17:41They have them doing some cornet like creation out of the high post, which is encouraging.
17:46There were a couple of moments last year where he flashed cornet like creation.
17:51What are you doing?
17:53Cornet like creation?
17:59It's reminiscent.
18:00It's reminiscent of what we saw from cornet the last couple of games here, which is exciting.
18:06And you know, it's not on the stat sheet here right in front of us, but one foul tonight,
18:11no fouls in yesterday's game.
18:13I believe he had no fouls in the second Nuggets game as well after a couple in that first
18:18game.
18:18Fouling was a big problem for him last year.
18:21I think he had like five per 36, close to six per 36.
18:26So that's going to keep you off the floor if you're doing that.
18:30And he hasn't done that this preseason, which was maybe the biggest area of growth for him
18:33right now.
18:34Yeah.
18:35I mean, and that, Bobby, to your point, that's the one thing that will keep you off the floor
18:39more than anything else.
18:40Picking up cheap fouls, not so much because it limits the amount of minutes you play,
18:46but because it starts, it gets that opponent to the free throw line quicker.
18:51So yeah, Kane is getting better.
18:53I mean, that's the positive that there are clear signs that he's getting better from
18:57where he was when he first came to Boston to where he's at now.
19:01But there are still some areas, particularly at the offensive end of the floor, particularly
19:05finishing around a basket where he has to get better.
19:08But as I think a couple of folks pointed out, you know, his assist numbers were great.
19:13When you've got a big who can get you five assists, I don't care whether it's preseason
19:16or not.
19:16That's something to absolutely be thrilled about, particularly when it's a big where
19:21that is not necessarily part of their scouting report.
19:26Keita, you know, he plays above the rim.
19:28He's athletic.
19:29He can block shots.
19:30But getting others involved, being a ball distributor, that's not something that you
19:35anticipate seeing much of from him.
19:36And so give him credit for that.
19:38But again, the preseason is about improvement.
19:41It's about figuring out where you fit in.
19:44And he has to become a better finisher at the rim if he wants to get on the floor, because
19:49he seems to address the whole following too much issue.
19:52Now the next step is following less, which he's doing and finishing more, which is not
19:57at the level he should.
20:01Yeah, and he'll probably be playing in short bursts on most nights when he is getting in
20:06there, so that makes the finishing and those limited opportunities that he gets all the
20:09more important.
20:10He might take only two, three shots a game in a shorter run, so it's tough if you miss
20:16some shots that you should be making in there.
20:18But all the other little areas, the little things, obviously impressing Joe Missoula
20:22after this game, who praised Keita for taking his role seriously.
20:26His defensive awareness, Joe said, and execution has grown and his offensive effectiveness,
20:31his screening and spacing.
20:33I love his growth in that area.
20:35You saw that from Tillman too, who didn't play tonight.
20:37But I feel like Tillman's gotten better at some of the off-ball screening, some of the
20:41positioning and setting up for teammates.
20:43It's something that these bigs have to be able to do in this system, and you're starting
20:48to see guys resemble some of the growth.
20:51As we've talked about, Cornette's been here forever, so he knows all this stuff like the
20:54back of his hand.
20:55Now you're seeing Keita start to do it a little more.
20:57You're seeing Tillman start to do it a little more.
20:59That's going to help those guys when they're coming off the bench or maybe even getting
21:03some spot starts if injuries or rests reach a high level here.
21:08Keita, that's your last line when it comes to starting center.
21:13A number of guys are going to have to be injured or resting to have him step into a starting
21:18role.
21:19But even with him, you're like, you can live with it.
21:23He's good enough.
21:24He's effective enough.
21:25You're not worried if you're putting him out there in a spot start like tonight.
21:28And he mostly came through despite those misses.
21:31Encouraging stuff from him.
21:33Noah Delisle joining us from the Garden as well here.
21:37We've talked about Lonnie.
21:38We've talked about Walsh.
21:40Talking about Keita now.
21:41Noah, who Joe Mizzou had some praise for.
21:46How do you feel about his performance?
21:49Yeah, I think it's a lot of what we know he's capable of.
21:51We know he's capable of getting big rebounding numbers.
21:54We know he's capable of being physical.
21:56I think that there's still a little bit left to be desired as far as finishing around the
22:00basket.
22:01I think that's continued to be a problem of his and it was continuing to be a problem
22:05today.
22:05But generally speaking, I think this is a good environment for him.
22:10Lower stakes.
22:11He's playing against guys for the most part that he, I think, was better than.
22:15So it didn't really change my perspective on anything.
22:17But I think he was one of the guys that stood out today.
22:21Yeah, and a good opportunity for him here.
22:24There's definitely some room for growth.
22:26But you see him working at it.
22:27You see him growing with each appearance.
22:30And even though there was some mixed results here in this one, I think overall trending
22:34in the right direction.
22:35And you're probably never going to need him to play this much unless things were to go
22:40really wrong, as we said right before you got in here.
22:43But if he does, you know, I'm terrified about it.
22:47And there's obviously some upside here, too, that they can tap into.
22:50We're going to hear from some more players from the Garden as they start to make their
22:54way to the podium.
22:55A pretty shorthanded effort for the Celtics here.
22:58Al Horford is going to play on Tuesday, so he'll make his preseason debut in the rematch
23:03between these two teams.
23:04Probably going to be a similar group for the Raptors in that game who are dealing with
23:08an R.J. Barrett injury and maybe quickly comes into play there.
23:12But you saw most of the Raptors right gears in this one and really none of the Celtics.
23:15And what started as a dominant game got down pretty close late as you got into the deeper
23:21portion of the Celtics bench.
23:23And that's where you start to see some guys who really have some room for growth here.
23:27And we can get into some of them before we get out of here.
23:28But I want to shout out games.
23:30Well, actually, no, we'll we'll hear from Peyton Pritchard and then we'll tell you about
23:34games like this where most of the regulars aren't playing.
23:37I know it's an opportunity for you guys to get some, you know, get some run.
23:42But how much do you get out of it when you're not playing in a situation that you're typically
23:47going to plan during the regular season when you are going to be on the floor with at least
23:51a few of those guys?
23:53So you're asking, like, how is it different?
23:54Well, yeah, like what what do you take from a game like this where it's not a typical
24:02situation that you're going to see in the regular season?
24:05Um, well, injuries happen and opportunities can arise.
24:10And I take advantage of times like this.
24:13So when a moment like that does come, not saying I hope it does.
24:17But if it does, you know, I hope to not, you know, take a step back like our team doesn't
24:22take a step back.
24:22We can some of us can carry the torch with that.
24:26Obviously, we're a very deep team, and that's what makes us very, very good.
24:30So I think all of us need to take advantage of these situations just because this is how
24:34you keep growing your game and showing, you know, the world that like a lot of us are
24:39capable of taking that next step and doing that, but also accepting the role that our
24:44team needs and doing the best at that to help us.
24:47Payton, you were scoring pretty quick there in the first half, and you've kind of built
24:52that reputation that you can get hot in a hurry.
24:55Talk us through what is it like when you notice you're in that flow state?
24:59Like what what thoughts are you having?
25:01And how do you continue that hot streak?
25:05I mean, honestly, I didn't feel like I was in a flow state.
25:06I just was playing basketball the other day.
25:08So I feel like if I'm in a hot streak, I probably wouldn't even miss.
25:13It'd be like 10 in a row.
25:14I ended up going, I missed like six threes.
25:17So I don't know, that's like 45%.
25:18Don't you know, when I'm hot, I'm jacuzzi hot.
25:22I don't know, Payton.
25:23I did enjoy the fact that, like I've said before, I was taking what the defense gave
25:28me, hitting the three.
25:30I got to the rim one time and then hitting guys for also threes and finishing at the
25:34rim.
25:36You mentioned sort of getting the chance in these games to show that, you know, you're
25:41capable of more, but also understanding the role.
25:43How do you balance that internally?
25:44Like going from a game like this where the ball's in your hand a lot versus playing
25:48the role that you would play when the other guys are in the game?
25:51Like how do you stay motivated to improve individually while also understanding like
25:56what your role in the team is?
25:57I feel like it's very easy.
25:59I have big dreams for myself and, you know, people want to put limits and I put no limit
26:05on myself.
26:06But I also have an understanding what's in front of me.
26:09And that we have a tremendous team that could do, you know, win another championship.
26:14And at the end of the day, I'm a winner and I want to do whatever it takes to help the
26:17team win.
26:18So I'm not going to sit up here and and say, oh, I deserve more like we just won a
26:22championship.
26:23I'm going to go and do my role the best I can.
26:26And like I said, if there's an injury or anything, I want to be able to step up in
26:30those moments and and help the team win another one.
26:33You just said you would consider hitting 10 threes in a row to be a hot streak or 10
26:37shots.
26:38Either way, that'd be pretty unbelievable.
26:40So sure.
26:41What's your standard of good for you?
26:43What do you consider to be like?
26:44I'm actually doing well versus like continuing to chase greatness.
26:48Come on, doing well for me is I don't like to just look at it as a one game at a time.
26:55Like for me doing well is like a stretch.
26:57I'm not going to be able to do it all the time.
27:00One game at a time, like for me doing well is like a stretch, a 10 game stretch of just
27:05playing great basketball defensively, offensively, like I can go and have a game.
27:10But then, you know, the next game, what do I do?
27:12I have three points the next game.
27:14Like that's not a that's not greatness.
27:16Greatness is doing it every night back to back.
27:19And so that's what I'm striving for is to, you know, finding ways to affect the game
27:24defensively and offensively, just being better this year and not having bad nights.
27:28Limit those.
27:30In your roles, you're not usually taking 20 shots a game.
27:33It's hard to consistently hit a ton of shots.
27:35So how have you found being able to chase that while being realistic in the role that
27:39you have?
27:42Like you said, I'm probably not going to get 20 shots a night.
27:44It could be five.
27:47It's being efficient in those.
27:49It's, you know, the stat line could look like eight, five and five, and that really
27:54could affect the game.
27:55So doing that on a nightly basis and and they just being part of winning.
28:00And if I can look at the game and just know I impacted that game and I made a difference
28:05and that's greatness.
28:08Hey, this is not really about you.
28:10Your role is pretty much set, but you got guys you talk about depth.
28:14Lonnie just dropped 20 tonight.
28:15He doesn't have a locker.
28:16You know, you got a bunch of guys that can that can score and do a lot of things.
28:21How do you manage expectations?
28:24You're one of the leaders in there, too.
28:26Like, how do you manage everybody's expectations?
28:28Like, you're all capable of doing X, Y and Z, but you are not.
28:33You just said, you know, sometimes you're going to get five shots, but we know what
28:36you're capable of.
28:36How do you manage those expectations of like what I need to do versus what I can do?
28:43And the day just goes to like sacrificing.
28:45I talk to guys all the time, like don't become robotic in your role.
28:50Like always every day I take to myself, I'm trying to get better and better and better.
28:54But when that role is asked, you just do the best of it, knowing that you can do more.
28:59But you show up, you rebound, you hustle, knowing that, you know, we have unbelievable
29:04players, Jason, Jalen, like these guys are proven.
29:08So none of us are going to be asked to just have the ball in our hands.
29:11You got to be asked to do show how you can affect the games and in other ways.
29:15And but that just still means on the off days and everything, you're improving your game.
29:20You're adding things all the time.
29:22And you just never know when your moment comes.
29:25So I tell people all the time, like, you know, you got to be the ready when that when that
29:30time comes.
29:35Wow.
29:35Impressive stuff from Peyton there.
29:37Definitely growth in terms of his answers and his poise and the way he's speaking as
29:41a leader on this team.
29:42I mean, he sounded like one of the veterans there, Sherrod.
29:46Hot?
29:47That's not hot.
29:48Let me tell you what hot is, says Peyton.
29:51I love the edge and attitude that he has now.
29:54But, you know, the one thing that I think a lot of people have just kind of glossed
29:58over when it comes to Peyton Pritchett was my man asked to be out.
30:02Yeah.
30:02Last year, he did not want to be here because he wasn't playing.
30:06And I think often we mischaracterize guys who want to be traded as if they're being
30:11selfish.
30:12They just see themselves being able to contribute more if they're given an opportunity to do
30:16that.
30:16And Peyton, you know, to his credit, you know, he backed it up.
30:20I mean, he said, if you give me a chance to play more, I'm going to deduce more.
30:23I'm going to impact the game more.
30:24And he's been able to do that.
30:26And we're not just talking at the end of quarters, which seems to be Peyton time.
30:30We're talking about his ability to frankly put his imprint on games in a multitude of
30:35ways.
30:35He's one of as crazy as it sounds, he's one of the best offensive rebounders.
30:40How many?
30:40I mean, it seems like there's not a single game that passes by where Peyton doesn't
30:45find a way to grab the ball in a sea of trees that he's surrounded by.
30:51You look at his shot making, obviously his playmaking tonight, he had nine assists along
30:55with five rebounds.
30:56And of course, one of them had to be an offensive rebound because that's what he does.
30:59Peyton has evolved into a guy that can do a lot of different things to help the team
31:05win.
31:06And not only does he have the talent, but now he has that swagger, that confidence.
31:11I mean, I don't know if he would have answered that question a year ago, the way he did now.
31:16He basically said, that wasn't hot.
31:18This isn't hot.
31:19Hot is when you do it over a period of time.
31:21Last year, I think he might have said something to the effect that, well, yeah, I had a good
31:24game and just hopefully I can string another good game together sometime this month or
31:29something like that.
31:30He is on a different mental level right now.
31:33And part of that is him playing more.
31:35Well, part of it is also the fact that they won a championship with him being in a very
31:39specific and defined role.
31:41And that's something that, again, when you're looking at winning, when you're looking at
31:46trying to help your team do what no one thinks you can do, which is win a second straight
31:50title, you're going to have a different kind of confidence and belief in that because you've
31:55done it before and you've done it in the role that you're being asked to be in right now.
31:59So I think all that adds up to a very different Peyton Pritchard that we're seeing, a more
32:04confident and comfortable Peyton Pritchard in his own skin and his own ability to help
32:08this team.
32:09How much better could he be this year, Noah?
32:12Because I think we've seen what looked like the peak of his potential last year.
32:17No, the peak.
32:18But obviously, he sees another level.
32:23Yeah, and I do too.
32:24I mean, you know, I feel I feel like he's just scratching the surface of what he is
32:28capable of.
32:28And to be honest with you, I think like he he's shown that you he's kind of perfected
32:32the balance of saying, you know, I have high individual aspirations and I want to achieve
32:37all these things and grow in all these ways.
32:39But that doesn't mean that right now I can't play in this role.
32:41And we see that every day.
32:42I thought that was a really brilliant interview.
32:44That was just, you know, a rare, really impactful preseason interview because he basically said
32:49it like you can work on things to become an all star and to be an MVP player.
32:53But when you're on the floor, you have to know how to still play within your role.
32:56And I think we've seen that out of him.
32:58And we've seen that that's why, you know, when there's preseason games or summer league
33:01games or whatever it has been over the years, like he can dominate because he works on the
33:04skill set of being more than just a role player.
33:06But he's also willing to sacrifice and be a role player if he needs to.
33:10And I think that this year, if there's going to be an opportunity for somebody to take
33:13a larger role, it's he's at the top of the list, honestly, because think about like from
33:18a shot creation standpoint with Przingis out, we've talked about this a couple of times,
33:21but like it just there's a few more shots to go around.
33:24And I think it's not going to be the post guys.
33:26It's going to be guys like Pritchard or Sam Houser down the stretch that of the season
33:29that might get some additional looks.
33:31And I think he's probably like the top guy that I would imagine if there's somebody that's
33:34going to take a points per game leap this season, like he's a very good candidate for
33:38it.
33:39Yeah, and he talked early in preseason about improving his shot five for eleven from three
33:46last game.
33:46He goes three for seven, and I thought he shot pretty well in Abu Dhabi to six for twelve
33:51in the first game and two for three in the second game.
33:55So he's on fire from three, you know, whether whether he feels it or not, it shows in the
33:58numbers there.
34:00And that's an area where, you know, Houser's at 40 percent guy.
34:04If he can be up in that 40 percent category, too, that makes him all the more dangerous
34:09because the playmaking is there now.
34:11The defense come a long way.
34:13I thought Scottie Barnes gave him a tough time and I had some of the switches and the
34:17taller guys will just being able to shoot right over him.
34:19But you think back to the finals, he stood up against Luka Doncic in spots there.
34:24And, you know, if you bring some offensive contributions in that position to that that
34:31rotation and he looks better, Houser looks better, Cornette looks better.
34:36That's your core bench right there.
34:38And those guys have been playing together for so long now.
34:41Pritchard's been here for so long.
34:42You hear an interview like that and you're like, man, he's truly one of the elder statesmen
34:47on this team at this point.
34:48And that's that's the first time I've seen or heard him sound like that, you know, talking
34:54for the younger guys on the team who are trying to find their positions, conveying
34:57his role.
34:58Schreiber talked about it.
34:59He was in a position they were in where he didn't have any minutes, where he didn't have
35:02much of a role and made the most of it, whether it was just by grabbing offensive rebound
35:07and or seizing more opportunity when it came.
35:10So he's a great example for some of the young guys on the roster, even a walker.
35:14And I'll ask you about him before we get out of here.
35:17Noah, did he convince you any more with this performance here?
35:21Is is he making some impression impression?
35:30I'll just say first, just wanted to respond to what you're saying about Pritchard.
35:33Since starting to cover the team, like one of the things that I've done is go up to Maine
35:36a lot and talk to a lot of the younger players.
35:38And pretty much every single player names Peyton Pritchard as the guy that has mentored
35:42them, welcomed them, taken them in.
35:44From the beginning, that stood out to me because it wasn't what I would have expected.
35:47I thought it was going to be like the superstars or the starters, you know.
35:51And from the jump, it was always Peyton Pritchard was the name that was with reference of just
35:55a guy that has been making sure that they can they're adjusting and they kind of know
35:58where to go.
35:59So it aligns what he's saying right now aligns with everything that I've heard outside of
36:02him as well.
36:04To your Lonnie Walker question, I think that what we saw today is exactly why Celtics fans
36:08have been so excited about Lonnie Walker since the contract was signed and why every time
36:13we tweet about him or post about him, whenever everybody's in the comments saying like, let's
36:17sign and we have to take him because he's a really exciting player.
36:19But he had a couple plays tonight where it's like kind of took your breath away, like very
36:23beautiful finishes.
36:24You know, he's a great shot.
36:25We're already aware of that.
36:27So nothing has changed because we knew this all about him.
36:30I think the question is, has something changed with the situation with the team behind the
36:34scenes from our understanding right now is that it's not he doesn't really have a valuable
36:38chance here.
36:39So it's not that, you know, something that we're going to see, like, can he score 20
36:42in a preseason game?
36:43It's the question is, like, are they willing to spend millions of dollars and take the
36:4715th roster spot and potentially lose that flexibility?
36:50Like, that's the question.
36:52And I don't know that anything like that changed tonight.
36:54That's that's my concern, I guess.
36:58Yeah, and that's the tough part is I don't think it's anything he's doing or not doing.
37:03It's just the situation on the roster and makes it a little perplexing.
37:07You know why they decided to bring him in and have him in that spot if they're not going
37:13to commit to him, because, again, another team could come in and sign him.
37:17It's tough to imagine that he would spend most of the year in Maine, even though he
37:23said he's willing to go that route.
37:26So if that's where he's going to end up, it'll be interesting to see how that develops.
37:29And I do hope that he could stay patient and stay that committed to growing in the system,
37:34because that's still the biggest thing for him, Sherrod, I think, is understanding all
37:38the little things you have to do to play in this system on both sides of the ball.
37:42How to contribute in these other areas.
37:44Like, it's great you bring all the scoring to the table, but no rebounds, one assist.
37:49Like I said, it's the stuff he did yesterday that I think would start to make some impressions.
37:54A lot of guys with some opportunity and opportunity and opportunity, not that anyone
37:58can put up 20 points, but a lot of guys can and a lot of guys who can do that are out
38:02of the league, because everybody who's in the league can do that.
38:06So that's the tough part for him right now.
38:08And you can tell he's working hard.
38:10You can tell he's putting in the extra reps of practice.
38:12He's out there.
38:13He's out there.
38:14He's out there.
38:14And just going through rep after rep after rep.
38:16Like, that extra motivation is clearly there, given his position.
38:19But like we've talked about over and over about over and over about.
38:30Sherrod, is he broken up for you too, or is it just me?
38:33Yeah.
38:35Yep.
38:35I missed him.
38:37Yeah, Bobby, I think you're.
38:43You're silent to us.
38:48You're like Gershon.
38:49We can't hear you.
38:51You have no, your presence is no longer here.
38:54It looks like he's saying something profound though.
38:57Yeah.
39:00There we go.
39:01Yeah, we got you.
39:02All right.
39:03Yeah, I was saying.
39:05Yeah, I was just saying that the situation hasn't changed much.
39:09And it's too bad.
39:10It's not anything he's doing or not doing.
39:12He's clearly getting an extra reps and all that.
39:14But there's no minutes there for him, Sherrod, at the start of the year.
39:18And you're not going to pay $12 million for that, including the tax.
39:22Yeah.
39:23I mean, there are no minutes.
39:24And more important, there's no role.
39:27I think the Celtics, you know, they brought him in because like,
39:29they just basically had an opportunity to bring in a really good player.
39:33And a player that for whatever reason, no one else was clamoring to get.
39:37Which to me, that's still kind of a head scratcher as to why he was even made,
39:43he was even available.
39:44When you look at his skill set, you look at the fact that he's 25 years old.
39:47He's been in the league like six, seven years.
39:50Guys that play as well as he does offensively,
39:55they're that young with that level of experience.
39:58You don't just sign an Exhibit 10 contract.
40:00You usually have to sign into a multi-year deal because they've got so much upside.
40:04And yet they still have this pretty sizable proving body of work.
40:08So it's going to be really tough to see him go.
40:12It really is.
40:13But if you're the Celtics, you know, again, as I mentioned to Bobby earlier,
40:16I mean, it's another example of the rich getting richer.
40:19You really shouldn't have a guy like Walker in your Exhibit 10 spot
40:24because he's so much better than that.
40:26I give Brad Stevens a heck of a lot of credit.
40:29He was able to convince Lonnie's people to come to Boston and give him a shot.
40:33And to Bobby's point, I do hope that he's patient
40:36because I do think at some point Lonnie Walker is going to win them a game.
40:41I do believe he's that good.
40:42And I do believe an opportunity will present itself
40:45to where he can make that kind of impact.
40:46But is he going to be patient enough to wait for that opportunity?
40:50Are the Celtics going to, you know,
40:52just, you know, do the things they need to do
40:55to put him in position for that opportunity?
40:57Remains to be seen.
41:00Yeah, and not to throw Cornett's name out there,
41:03and I don't think there's going to be that long of a,
41:05you know, time spent in Maine or just development track for him.
41:08But it's an example, like Noah talked about with Pritchard earlier in Cornett's case,
41:13that if you do take a step back in your role,
41:15change your game a little bit,
41:17adjust to the system that they play here,
41:20you can come out on the other side a different player
41:23and a more effective player as part of a winning team here.
41:25And that's what I talk about with the patients.
41:27Like if he could spend half the year in Maine even,
41:29I think he would just grow into such a different player,
41:34have a much better feel for what they want him to do
41:37and what needs to be done on both ends of the floor on this team.
41:41And that's still the thing that's missing with him.
41:42All the skills are there.
41:44The, you know, physicality is there with him.
41:47But does he know what needs to be done on any given play
41:51on either end of the court for this team?
41:53That's something that's going to take time.
41:54Everybody on this team has been here for at least a year
41:57and has a feel for what they need to do.
41:58Even Jaden Springer went out and hit a couple of threes tonight
42:01and looks more in sync with the system at the very least.
42:04And I would still put, even though he might not be as good of a shooter
42:07or as good of a scorer, Springer ahead of Walker,
42:11just given the time that he spent here.
42:13He might be another guy who has to go take some reps in Maine
42:17and just deal with the fact that there's not a ton of minutes here
42:21at the top end of the charts.
42:22And that's certainly going to be the case for Shireman,
42:24who's just ice cold to start his preseason career.
42:28Watson, who didn't get in until the fourth quarter tonight,
42:31is clearly going to be Maine bound.
42:33So it's going to be a pretty stacked roster up there.
42:35And actually looking at Tyler Lashbrook,
42:36who's going to coach them up in Maine this year and say like,
42:38oh, how are you going to figure out the minutes for all these guys
42:41who are potentially going to be up there?
42:42Because there could be a lot of guys from the Boston Celtics
42:45who have to spend some time up in Maine,
42:47given where the roster stands in certain positions.
42:49But the big spot is opportunity for Keita.
42:53He seized it again here tonight.
42:54Tillman looked good for much of this preseason.
42:56Probably get another look at him on Tuesday in the preseason finale.
43:00And Joe Mizzoula said today,
43:02Al Horford will make his preseason debut on Tuesday.
43:06So you talk about fitting into the system and knowing what you need to do.
43:11He's probably about as ready in that sense as anyone here.
43:14So there's nothing you're going to be looking for from Horford
43:17in terms of what he's doing out there on Tuesday.
43:19But I'm glad we're going to see him,
43:21that we know he'll be physically ready and healthy for the season.
43:26And you hope that he actually will make this appearance.
43:29Mizzoula said that that's the plan.
43:32But as four games went by here,
43:33and if he didn't say that before the game,
43:36I would have started to be like, all right, what's going on?
43:39Because, you know, slow ramp up, all that,
43:41you understand it, the big playoff minutes.
43:44But if he didn't play at all in the preseason,
43:46all of a sudden you're like, all right,
43:47is he ready physically for the regular season coming up?
43:49But we'll see what he looks like on Tuesday.
43:54Yeah.
43:56Go ahead, Noah, you got it.
43:57No, I was going to say,
43:58I was just on just the last thing on your Lonnie Walker piece.
44:02Just, you know, I think the only thing to consider is that he's,
44:05I think it's almost for sure that he's going to go to Maine off the bat.
44:08And like you said about Tyler Lashbrook,
44:09like this is a very connected Maine Celtics team to the Boston Celtics.
44:13Luke Hornet talked about it yesterday,
44:15but also Joe has made a point of it.
44:17The coaching staff is very connected.
44:19A lot of the players are going to be shuffling back and forth.
44:21I think that's part of the appeal,
44:23but I do think that there is concern that someone else will grab him.
44:26Like, well, because he's on a two-way, right?
44:28So if he shows out, like anybody in the NBA can take him.
44:31But I think it's almost fair to expect and assume right now,
44:34if you're following the team, that he's going to go to Maine,
44:36that he's going to play well there.
44:37He's going to play a sizable role.
44:39And then maybe at the end of the season,
44:40he's going to sign something or somebody else is going to grab him.
44:43Like that's, I think that's just the realistic pathway forward right now.
44:46And I would imagine, I can't imagine nobody picks him up,
44:48but again, not a lot of teams have great spots.
44:51But just wanted to add that.
44:52I think that we do kind of have a pathway now,
44:55at least to our knowledge of where things are going to go from here.
44:58And on the out piece, yeah, I'm happy to hear that he's going to play
45:00because I was starting to wonder if there was something wrong with him.
45:04If he was dealing with like tendonitis or something,
45:07just random like that.
45:08So good to hear that he'll just be available and I'm sure he'll look fine
45:11and it won't be a much of a story.
45:14Yeah. I mean, just to get out there.
45:16I mean, really, Al doesn't have to do a damn thing other than just crack a sweat,
45:19show that he can run from one end line to the other
45:22and just get the hell out of there and stay healthy.
45:25Because at this point, it's not going to be a long stand.
45:27No, I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if Al is like back on a bitch
45:30with the first time out and just end it right there.
45:33Because they really, there's nothing that Al can do
45:36that will change anyone's opinion or thoughts of his impact
45:39and his importance to this team.
45:41You literally just need him to just shake off some of the offseason rust,
45:45break a sweat and get the hell back on that bench
45:48and stay healthy for that opener against the Knicks.
45:51Yeah. And if you want to be at that opener against the Knicks,
45:54ring night, which is going to be the next game of Celtics play here,
45:57week from Tuesday, start looking now, game timeout,
46:00start scouting out some of those prices, see what trends are going on there.
46:04I know Noah's had her eyes on this ticket ahead of opening night.
46:09It's a tough one.
46:11It's a tough one, but it's possible on game time,
46:13especially as you track the prices and which way they're going.
46:16And more often than not, the best deals are right up until
46:19and even right around game time.
46:21I've noticed that with a couple of concerts that I've gone to recently,
46:24you get some great deals right up against game time or concert time in that case.
46:29So go over there right now.

47:21And that's a wrap for us tonight.
47:24Celtics undefeated in the preseason.
47:27Dominating for the most part, no matter who's on the floor.
47:31Showing a bunch of lineups that have great potential here.
47:33And guys who, off the bench, obviously took steps
47:38behind the scenes over the summer to improve and show some strong results.
47:43This looks like a team that isn't going to miss a beat,
47:45even though, you know, the usual caveat, this is preseason.
47:48This isn't all to be taken with much more than a grain of salt.
47:53But they look in sync.
47:55They look motivated.
47:57And everybody individually, for the most part, looks improved here.
48:01So all encouraging results, again, continued tonight.
48:04Raptors had some, you know, Scotty Barnes, Jacob Hurd.
48:08Also, there was some competition out there for them to go against as well.
48:11And they'll see them again on Tuesday.
48:13And we'll have post-game coverage of Celtics-Raptors up in Toronto.
48:18That is going to be a 7.30 start.
48:22No, 7 start on Tuesday.
48:23So another early tip off to wrap the preseason.

49:07Wait, Ahmed's got an outro for us, I think.
49:09No, he doesn't.
49:10He said he was going to work on an outro.
49:13He had a phenomenal game.
49:15Phenomenal game.
49:18Porfrit's out, I think it's an option.
49:23That did not sound like a chair.
49:25It was a freaking chair.
49:26It does sound like a chair.
