00:00:00Can you say hard hats, folks? Hard hats, munch pails, steel tool boots?
00:00:07Anything short of a championship this year is a failure.
00:00:09Look at this boomer right here.
00:00:11You've just got so much talent here.
00:00:14Somebody said we need to apologize for Jaylen.
00:00:16Can I pull the John? What are we apologizing for? What did we say? What did we do?
00:00:20What's going on, guys?
00:00:29What's up? What's up, everybody?
00:00:31A little fallish Garden Report.
00:00:35Although it was like 80 degrees today.
00:00:37We're going to sneak in a Garden Report.
00:00:39None of you, no one's going to watch, but you might catch it on.
00:00:42Yeah, it's a good like, it's a good like repeat watch.
00:00:45If you're not watching it live, I would say, you know, it's like something to tune in on a Friday.
00:00:49Tomorrow, it's like, you know what?
00:00:51Tomorrow kind of sucks. It's Friday.
00:00:52It's beautiful up, but like people are back to work.
00:00:55No one's leaving tonight to go to the Cape or whatever.
00:00:58So you're sitting in the office.
00:00:59You're looking out the window.
00:01:00It's sunny out.
00:01:01You need to kill like an hour.
00:01:03Help us help you.
00:01:04Just let it rip.
00:01:05Let it rip.
00:01:07Let the boss, let the boss pay for this next hour.
00:01:11How about that?
00:01:12Yeah, let's do that.
00:01:15So, yeah, no, I see.
00:01:17I see some of you guys are here.
00:01:18Look, it's going to be slow going.
00:01:19I get it.
00:01:20We got Thursday night football.
00:01:21You know, there's not a ton going on here.
00:01:24But, you know, where we are remarkably, remarkably close to actual basketball, like way closer than I'm ready for.
00:01:3612 days to camp.
00:01:38Oh, yeah.
00:01:39It's begins media day on the 24th.
00:01:42Wow.
00:01:43They're practicing on the 25th.
00:01:45Do the math, Jimmy.
00:01:46It's the 12th today.
00:01:47I can't.
00:01:4813 days.
00:01:50We're going to need to.
00:01:51We're going to need like a promo code for me to understand this one.
00:01:55Yeah.
00:01:56But no, I believe Bobby.
00:01:5713 days.
00:01:58It'll happen fast.
00:02:00And then Bobby is off and running.
00:02:03Bobby and Noah doing stuff, doing stuff at the training camp and covering the team.
00:02:11And then, you know, we get to hear from Joe all the time.
00:02:14One of the cool things, and we're going to get into, we're going to do a few things.
00:02:17Why are we doing this show?
00:02:18Because we miss each other and we miss you guys.
00:02:20We also have.
00:02:21Because of friendship.
00:02:22A ridiculous amount of sponsors.
00:02:25We've got Nutraful.
00:02:27Yeah, we do.
00:02:28For your hair.
00:02:30Get after it.

00:02:38We've got HelloFresh.
00:02:40Yeah.
00:02:41Dot com slash free garden.
00:02:42One free appetizer.
00:02:43One free appetizer item per box while your subscription is active.

00:03:00Get in on it.
00:03:01Patriots home.
00:03:02There's tickets still to be had.
00:03:03Prices are going up, I bet, after that last week's win.
00:03:05Yeah, they might be.
00:03:06I told everybody last week.
00:03:07Sweep them up.
00:03:08Game time app.
00:03:09Code CLNS.
00:03:1020% off.
00:03:12There's actually a better game.
00:03:14$20 off.
00:03:15$20 off.
00:03:16Sorry.
00:03:17Yep.
00:03:18Yeah, it's a better game this weekend.
00:03:19I think it's like, what is it?
00:03:20Bengals.
00:03:21What's the game?
00:03:22Bengals.
00:03:23That's their feature game.
00:03:24That's the game everyone's going to be eyeing.
00:03:26A lot of stars in that game.
00:03:28And the Bengals need to win.
00:03:30They can't start the year 0-2.
00:03:32The Natives.
00:03:33Trags will be huffing and puffing all the way around Cincinnati if they go 0-2.
00:03:36Yeah.
00:03:37I know that.
00:03:38They're probably going to.
00:03:40Probably.
00:03:41We'll see.
00:03:42So, yeah.
00:03:43So, we've got a lot.
00:03:44But as we said, we've got the Celtics and training camp begins.
00:03:46And I'm not ready for all of it.
00:03:48I'm not ready for the full, you know, ramp up here.
00:03:51But it's happening.
00:03:52It's a little earlier than normal because the team's going to head off to Abu Dhabi
00:03:55and do some, you know, stuff out there.
00:03:59Casual trip.
00:04:00Trip out there.
00:04:01And they're going to, you know, take on the Nuggets.
00:04:03And that will be a ton of fun.
00:04:04But we do get to see the team coming up in less than two weeks.
00:04:07And that's going to be fun.
00:04:08Big money out there.
00:04:09Abu Dhabi.
00:04:10Yeah.
00:04:11We've got a lot to talk about.
00:04:12Big money.
00:04:13We've also got, you know, the guys are starting to kind of, you know,
00:04:18they're popping around.
00:04:19You've got Jason Tatum's media tour.
00:04:20We're going to get into that a little bit.
00:04:22But we're going to start out with Joe Mazzulla making the rounds.
00:04:27Jumped on recently.
00:04:28Did a, you know, appearance.
00:04:33Interview.
00:04:35With the inimitable John Corrales over on locked on.
00:04:39You can tell Joe likes John.
00:04:41He used to like Bobby.
00:04:43Bobby, what did you do?
00:04:45What did you say?
00:04:46I don't know.
00:04:47I don't know.
00:04:48Something about his face.
00:04:50No.
00:04:51It's we infected Bobby and he got to garden reporting with his questions.
00:04:56And that was it.
00:04:58Yeah.
00:04:59It's called the Zanis effect, Bobby.
00:05:01Many people have.
00:05:03You got Zanis.
00:05:04People have been hit by it.
00:05:06Never to be seen again on the beach.
00:05:08Be very careful.
00:05:10Just ask him.
00:05:12Just ask him.
00:05:13But, you know, among the things that they talked about,
00:05:17and I'll tell you this, I'm going to play one bite.
00:05:19And this is the one that got the headlines.
00:05:21I want everybody's reaction to it.
00:05:22But, you know, what's the big question?
00:05:24Repeating.
00:05:25Repeating is hard.
00:05:26And can they get it?
00:05:28Can they focus it?
00:05:30Can they, are they going to, you know,
00:05:32Kind of pull it together and get there.
00:05:35And it's hard to do.
00:05:37Teams haven't done it.
00:05:38Not only have teams not repeated,
00:05:39teams have not done well at all in their next season.
00:05:44It's not like I got there.
00:05:45You know,
00:05:46recently you're talking about early exits and not getting to the finals
00:05:49again.
00:05:50And, and, you know, teams aren't quite, you know,
00:05:53getting anywhere close to repeat.
00:05:55Will the Celtics.
00:05:57And you talked about the challenges of it and whether or not they have a
00:05:59target on their back.
00:06:01And here's, here's Joe talking to John Corrales about that.
00:06:04I look forward to the challenge.
00:06:06I mean, I can't wait to see how hard it's going to be.
00:06:09You know, I can't wait.
00:06:12Like to me, that's like, I wish we started tomorrow.
00:06:15Like that's as easy as answers I can give you.
00:06:19Like, I hope it's even 10 times harder than it was last year.
00:06:22Like I really hope it is.
00:06:24And my favorite moment from last year,
00:06:28I think was watching the guys fully commit to each other and to the unique
00:06:34process of winning. And, you know, I always say this,
00:06:38and I hope out of this conversation,
00:06:40this gets picked up the most is the greatest gift you can get in the NBA is,
00:06:44is the players that you have. And, you know,
00:06:47we have the highest character guys and we have some of the best players,
00:06:50but you know,
00:06:52they dictate the temperature and the environment of the organization and the
00:06:56building on a daily basis. And, you know,
00:06:58it's our job as a staff and the front office to just facilitate small areas of
00:07:03growth and manage the areas of growth and adversity.
00:07:06But I got the greatest gift that I, that any coach could have. And it's,
00:07:10you know, organizational alignment and it's the type of players that we have.
00:07:13So that was my highlight. And again, you know,
00:07:17people are going to say the target's on our back,
00:07:18but I hope it's right in our forehead in between our eyes.
00:07:21I hope I could see the red dot.
00:07:27My lights just went out.
00:07:31John's mic went out, my lights went out.
00:07:34Joe's talking about the red dot, like the sniper rifle right between,
00:07:37right between your eyes here, which again, I mean,
00:07:40just kind of stays with his whole psychotic, you know, vibe. But,
00:07:47you know, I love this soundbite. I love it. I love it. Because you're like,
00:07:53you know, if the question last year was Joe too big,
00:07:56too big a maniac and like too amped up and too Joe to be able to kind of
00:08:01shepherd this team and kind of ride the waves and get them through, like,
00:08:05I think you need Joe times a hundred this year to keep them focused again.
00:08:09Right? Like,
00:08:10I think you need Joe's crazy intensity and nothing is good enough. And,
00:08:15and this whole, like, it's gotta be hard. It's got it. Yes.
00:08:18It has to feel harder because you have to convince yourself mentally that it's
00:08:23really, really, really hard to repeat.
00:08:25Yeah. And he must know that from conversations he's had or things he's looked
00:08:29into about the other teams they've repeated.
00:08:31I know Wayne Spoonie over there at Celtics blog told a good story.
00:08:35He was at a conference that Joe was doing at West Virginia or whatever.
00:08:38And he was saying he was studying Joe was the teams that try to repeat and
00:08:44ended up losing early. And like you said, they haven't done in a long time,
00:08:47John. And it seems like Joe seems to know that most of it's mental Brad
00:08:53actually went back to his comments around the draft time.
00:08:56And he said something very similar, the target human nature,
00:09:00all those things are real, but we also have to say,
00:09:02sometimes you need a jolt from within.
00:09:05We have the opportunity to tweak our team all the way up until February.
00:09:08We'd be crazy to not to say the character and the foundation of the team to not
00:09:13say the character and foundation of the team is right.
00:09:16Let's see if we can be as consistent as we can grow, develop, get better,
00:09:19improve. So a lot of that in this interview, a lot of that from Brad,
00:09:23I think Brad told the globe at one point, it's going to be much harder this year.
00:09:26We've got to be ready for that.
00:09:27And I think a lot of that goes back to the leagues coming at them again,
00:09:31the red dot thing Joe says there, but also the hangover effect.
00:09:36And we've had debate a little bit in the last couple of shows here,
00:09:38which one of those is greater. Is there a threat from outside that worries you?
00:09:42Or is it just going to be on them to stay focused and do exactly what they did
00:09:45last year. And that seems to be what they're focused on.
00:09:48And a lot of it is the consistency, right, Jimmy,
00:09:52but some of it's them needing some new faces on the court,
00:09:57some new schemes. I know Joe talked about that a little bit here to try some new
00:10:01things, keep things interesting,
00:10:03because it is going to be a slog getting through this regular season,
00:10:06especially without poor Zingas. I keep hammering that point.
00:10:08That's a big deal that they're not going to have him for 30,
00:10:1140 games or whatever it's going to be.
00:10:15Yeah, the poor Zingas stuff goes without saying it'll be tough for sure.
00:10:18We probably aren't thinking about that enough. I love the Joe quote, John too.
00:10:22We're going to get like the most Joe, Joe ever because he's,
00:10:27because he won.
00:10:29So like he has that in his back pocket that everything he said and believed in
00:10:35and ultimately won out and came true. So why would he change?
00:10:39He's just going to double down on everything and just be even more Joe.
00:10:42He's got the championship to back it up now. You know, he's got a little,
00:10:46got a little more, more of a swagger probably to his already craziness.
00:10:51So I like the quote. I would love to,
00:10:54I would love the players to have that attitude too.
00:10:57I don't know what it's going to take for Jason Tatum to feel that way.
00:11:00Probably, probably nothing just based on the type of person Tatum is,
00:11:05but Jalen Brown, those guys drew holiday. You know,
00:11:09they've got a little mean streak in them. I think for sure.
00:11:12Derek White's a little bit more cool, calm and collected.
00:11:15But this team is going to have to find motivation, Bobby. You're right.
00:11:19They're going to have to find it within themselves.
00:11:21They're going to have to create false narratives about doubt and all the things
00:11:25that they've done over the years in order to fire themselves up.
00:11:28Because I do think they're the best team in the league.
00:11:30And I do think that it's obviously cliche, but you know,
00:11:33the only team that can beat them is, is them. But that's just, I mean,
00:11:36a talent, you know, health staying on the,
00:11:39on the good side and Porzingis being able to come back and stay healthy and
00:11:43play through the playoffs is, is ultimately the difference maker for any team is
00:11:48health. But if they can stay healthy, I like their chances. You know,
00:11:52they're not going to end up with a 14 game lead, you know,
00:11:56going into the playoffs because of the Porzingis factor. And I think probably,
00:11:59they probably know that they don't need to. Right.
00:12:05It'll be a little bit harder during the regular season. Teams have gotten,
00:12:07some teams have improved in the East.
00:12:09I think people think the Knicks are going to be more of a problem this year.
00:12:12In fact, Tatum even said that a little bit on the, we'll get into it later,
00:12:16but the Jimmy Fallon interview, they asked him more or less wins for the Knicks.
00:12:20He said more probably had to say that, but.
00:12:23Some of those questions really caught him off. Yeah.
00:12:26Yeah. He was kind of staring off into,
00:12:29into the abyss for a few of those questions. John's shaking his head.
00:12:32We can't hear you. You're muted.
00:12:36John, you're muted.
00:12:37All I have to say is fucking electric, you know,
00:12:40like just everything Tatum does just watching him.
00:12:42Electric. That's the word.
00:12:44Electric.
00:12:45Yeah, definitely.
00:12:46Guy's just so entertaining.
00:12:48Yeah. Yeah, definitely.
00:12:51That, that was,
00:12:52that was definitely an interview about a children's book for sure.
00:12:54It's almost like. Good point, Jimmy.
00:12:56They don't have to win by 15 games this year.
00:12:58I also don't think that they're going to go 31 and six.
00:13:02I know someone in the chat just said they were 31 and six without Porzingis
00:13:05this year. That's going to be tough to repeat.
00:13:07I wrote about that today.
00:13:09That's what I think people, Bobby.
00:13:11They gotta, people gotta toss this a little bit.
00:13:13Like I think we're spending a lot of time.
00:13:17Take the victory lap over the win.
00:13:19Okay.
00:13:20Take the victory lap over the win.
00:13:22Say, as Jimmy says, bye to the haters.
00:13:25Hi to the haters.
00:13:26Anybody who wants to say it was easy in this and that they killed
00:13:29everybody, start to finish,
00:13:30stomped them throughout the regular season and,
00:13:33and absolutely dominated in the playoffs.
00:13:36I don't care.
00:13:37It is so much harder to come back and do it again.
00:13:40So it doesn't matter that they went 31 and whatever without Porzingis
00:13:44and these 16 and three in the playoffs,
00:13:47basically without him again, it's different.
00:13:52It's different. It's a new, it's a totally new vibe.
00:13:55I think people have to understand that doesn't mean they can still come
00:13:59out again.
00:14:01There's so many good comparisons as 2008 Celtics in terms of bringing
00:14:05together superstars, you know, having people, you know, sacrifice some,
00:14:10you know,
00:14:11in terms of what they do individually for the greater good.
00:14:13And if you want to look back at those guys and you want to say like,
00:14:16yeah, we were like, we're like those guys. We did what those guys did.
00:14:19Those guys came back even better in 2009. If KG doesn't get injured,
00:14:23they win that title.
00:14:24I know that's exactly where you stand now,
00:14:28except that 2009 team was better. I mean, they were better.
00:14:32They were unbelievable and they were killing people.
00:14:34So they may all there's, it could go two ways, right?
00:14:37They can get a little like, well, we're good. Right.
00:14:40And then, you know,
00:14:41coast through some things and suffer some annoying losses and we'll be
00:14:44ripping our hair out and we'll, they'll be, you know, giving, you know,
00:14:48we got to do this, we got to do this and flip the switch quotes,
00:14:51or they're going to be empowered and charged up by the,
00:14:55we killed these dudes and we're going to come back and do it again in a sense
00:14:58of purpose and focus and, and, and just, and stop people. So I am curious,
00:15:02but it's not automatic just cause they're good. It's, it's not, it's,
00:15:05it's different. It's different.
00:15:07No, because so much what they did last year, Jimmy, it was the talent,
00:15:10right? But it was also like, it could be better. Yeah.
00:15:14It making right decisions,
00:15:15everybody playing their role perfectly and committing to a role.
00:15:18I think all of that's going to be important.
00:15:20And the fact that you bring it back 13 guys helps everybody knows what they
00:15:23need to do.
00:15:24It's almost better than Oh nine because the Celtics lost a couple of pieces
00:15:27coming out of Oh wait, this team has all their,
00:15:30all their backups. Yeah. Yeah.
00:15:32They lost like their old reserves and everything.
00:15:35We questioned them all last year. Right. What about this? Oh,
00:15:39this could go wrong.
00:15:40Past versions of themselves popping up and none of that stuff ended up
00:15:43happening. They were just as dominant as they looked all year.
00:15:46So part of me,
00:15:47as much as I want to scrutinize this and look at it and see what could go
00:15:51wrong here,
00:15:53that 27 and three thing that the Oh nine team did is,
00:15:56is certainly in play here.
00:15:58If they all come back and do what they need to do now in the poor Zingas
00:16:01point,
00:16:02that one worries me just because I think what got you by last year.
00:16:06And obviously most of those games were in the playoffs, right?
00:16:08He missed like the whole post season.
00:16:10Horford's playing what 30,
00:16:1340 minutes at that point to make up for that.
00:16:15Anyway, during the regular season,
00:16:17you played them 30 minutes a game last year to get by without poor Zingas.
00:16:21It was those back to back situations.
00:16:22A lot of the time,
00:16:23maybe poor Zingas would miss four or five games here or there.
00:16:26So what you do is ramp up Horford to get by in those situations this year.
00:16:31You probably don't want to do that.
00:16:33I think this three back to backs during that opening stretch where he's going
00:16:38to be out maybe five,
00:16:40if it goes the distance of the full prognosis.
00:16:43So those are nights where you don't have Horford and it's just Cornette and
00:16:47Tillman and Kata.
00:16:48You won games with those guys last year too.
00:16:50So maybe you'll be fine.
00:16:52I think the biggest difference and the biggest challenge this year is managing
00:17:00things.
00:17:01Managing Horford,
00:17:02managing Jalen and Jason while also trying to have that urgency,
00:17:05John,
00:17:06to win every game he can in the regular season.
00:17:08I think that's going to be a balance for Joe,
00:17:10right?
00:17:11Because he's the kind of coach I think,
00:17:12even after a championship,
00:17:13who's going to be like,
00:17:14we got to win.
00:17:15We got to win.
00:17:16We got to win.
00:17:17And it does have to be a little bit.
00:17:18I think Jimmy of managing,
00:17:20especially with Horford,
00:17:21they can't play Horford 35 minutes every game because poor Zingas is out.
00:17:25That's just not an option.
00:17:29You're muted,
00:17:30Jimmy.
00:17:31It's not.
00:17:32You mentioned the reserves already.
00:17:34You mentioned Cornette,
00:17:35you mentioned Kata,
00:17:36you know,
00:17:37those guys coming off,
00:17:38they're going to have to be ready to play.
00:17:39And I'm sure that's going to be very clear to them.
00:17:43And it's exciting for those guys.
00:17:45They have a role on this team,
00:17:46a championship team coming into the year because of the big situation.
00:17:49I'm hopeful that it won't be too glaring of an issue.
00:17:53I do think that it is their weak spot.
00:17:56And I think teams are going to try to attack them if that means being
00:18:00aggressive down low,
00:18:01the Celtics arc.
00:18:02I mean,
00:18:03the Celtics perimeter defense is tops in the NBA.
00:18:05As far as I'm concerned,
00:18:06they have the ability to be,
00:18:07you have the best defensive backcourt in the NBA in holiday and white.
00:18:11And when Brown and Tatum want to,
00:18:14they can be two of the best defensive players at their positions too,
00:18:17on any given nights,
00:18:19making them two of the best two way players in the NBA as well.
00:18:22So,
00:18:23excuse me.
00:18:24The Celtics as a unit,
00:18:25as a returning unit are so strong on both ends.
00:18:28It's just going to come down to,
00:18:29are they willing to do it on those nights where it's a Tuesday in Charlotte?
00:18:34You know what I mean?
00:18:35It's,
00:18:36I got one of those early.
00:18:37Yeah.
00:18:38It's just that,
00:18:39I mean,
00:18:40we're going to talk about it all year and it's going to be hard because
00:18:41we're going to,
00:18:42we're going to always have the same,
00:18:43you know,
00:18:44discussion of whether or not it matters,
00:18:45right.
00:18:46You know,
00:18:47can they flip the switch?
00:18:48Should they have given Tatum a night off or Brown a night off and all
00:18:51this stuff.
00:18:52And at the end of the day,
00:18:53it's,
00:18:54it's the NBA and everybody knows it comes down to just getting into the
00:18:56playoffs.
00:18:57Healthy.
00:18:58The Celtics were able to do that last year.
00:18:59They lost for zinc is granted during the playoffs,
00:19:01but they were able to get there in one piece.
00:19:03And that's the most important thing.
00:19:05It is.
00:19:06Yeah,
00:19:07it is.
00:19:08It is the most important thing.
00:19:09I mean,
00:19:10and you obviously,
00:19:11I mean,
00:19:12any,
00:19:13any freak injury can happen,
00:19:14but having guys ready for the playoffs is what's important.
00:19:15So to your point,
00:19:16Bobby,
00:19:17yeah.
00:19:18Hal Horford,
00:19:19isn't going to play 35,
00:19:2038 minutes a game.
00:19:21There's probably going to be some stretches where they give them an extra
00:19:23night.
00:19:24And.
00:19:25You know,
00:19:26those,
00:19:27those other,
00:19:28who am I missing?
00:19:29Not Kata,
00:19:30Kata Tillman and Coleman Tillman Tillman.
00:19:32Yeah.
00:19:33You know,
00:19:34those guys are going to have an increased,
00:19:35increased role.
00:19:36They're not going to be asked to do a lot defensively.
00:19:38And that could be another big question is,
00:19:40you know,
00:19:41is our Tatum and Brown and holiday and,
00:19:43and white,
00:19:44those guys,
00:19:45are they going to be able to take it up a notch?
00:19:47Offensively.
00:19:48I'm sure they're going to,
00:19:49I'm going to welcome the opportunity to focus more on the offensive side of
00:19:54things.
00:19:55Cause those bigs,
00:19:56those guys coming in at the five spot.
00:19:57I mean,
00:19:58they really don't need to take a shot outside the cylinder.
00:20:00As far as I'm concerned,
00:20:01Tillman,
00:20:02we know can stretch it a little bit and he's athletic enough,
00:20:04but Kata,
00:20:05Cornette,
00:20:06Cornette used to be,
00:20:07I don't know what,
00:20:08what,
00:20:09what changed with Cornette's role.
00:20:10He obviously used to be a bit of a unicorn in his own right over in New
00:20:13York.
00:20:14Right.
00:20:15But.
00:20:16Maybe that's funny.
00:20:17Yeah.
00:20:18That was funny.
00:20:19And maybe that's something he's working on knowing that maybe he's going to
00:20:21have an expanded role.
00:20:22He's going to be asked to,
00:20:23to do that.
00:20:24No idea.
00:20:25Interesting.
00:20:26I,
00:20:27so I think the,
00:20:28the understanding is it's probably going to be Cornette backing up for
00:20:31most nights to probably play a little double big with those guys too.
00:20:34And Nixon Tillman at that point.
00:20:36So those guys are good enough to get by.
00:20:39I was looking at the numbers.
00:20:40Cornette was really good.
00:20:42When Porzingis was down last year and then they went four and oh,
00:20:45when Horford and Porzingis were out.
00:20:47So Cornette had some good games in those situations and was pretty good all
00:20:51last year.
00:20:52This matchup issues with him.
00:20:53They run into,
00:20:54but that's why I keep in Tillman was so important.
00:20:56This is a big year for Tillman.
00:20:58Obviously I,
00:20:59I don't think it went great.
00:21:01At least offensively for him last year.
00:21:03I don't know exactly where he fits in on that end.
00:21:07That's going to be the challenge.
00:21:08You go smaller here.
00:21:09I think losing for set hurts you in that capacity.
00:21:11So things are a little different here in terms of how they line up and you
00:21:15are.
00:21:16One injury away from being in a little bit of a trouble depth wise,
00:21:21given that Porzingis is going to be out for the stretch anyway.
00:21:24So again,
00:21:25health Jimmy,
00:21:26so important.
00:21:27But the big thing is if everybody is in place,
00:21:29John,
00:21:30I know you talk about this a little bit.
00:21:31They have to try some of these guys getting Tillman acclimated and up to
00:21:35speed this time around.
00:21:36Kate has got to play.
00:21:37And I think they want cater to play.
00:21:39Yeah.
00:21:40Springer's got to play.
00:21:41Even if you go smaller Springer.
00:21:43Thank you for the super chat here.
00:21:45Yeah.
00:21:46Look,
00:21:47I think you do have to play these guys and I do think you have to look at
00:21:49like,
00:21:50you know,
00:21:51not,
00:21:52not really obsessed over wins and losses in the first 20 to 30 games.
00:21:55Recognize that you're going to win still a lot of games just based on
00:21:58talent and just play more people and rotate them in.
00:22:02I think it'd be a mistake not to.
00:22:04And I think we will talk about that in terms of like,
00:22:06who,
00:22:07who,
00:22:08who can kind of take that?
00:22:09Like last year you had those open auditions,
00:22:12right?
00:22:13For like,
00:22:14you know,
00:22:15the 10th,
00:22:16let's say the ninth or 10th man spot.
00:22:17And you're looking at Banton and you're looking at preset.
00:22:20It seems like a zillion years ago.
00:22:21Who the hell was Steven?
00:22:23Yeah.
00:22:24And it's like,
00:22:25nobody took it.
00:22:26You know,
00:22:27you're going to kind of have the same thing again this year,
00:22:28but it's really hard where,
00:22:30when you can only play one of them at a time sporadically,
00:22:34you know?
00:22:35So if you don't play these guys,
00:22:36you're going to be in the same position where you're gonna have no clue
00:22:38who can do what and what they can do.
00:22:40You know,
00:22:41cause there's,
00:22:42there's a few candidates there for minutes,
00:22:44potentially like could Springer make a leap?
00:22:46Could K to make a leap,
00:22:47you know,
00:22:48Shireman you know,
00:22:49for sure.
00:22:50Lonnie,
00:22:51Lonnie frigging Walker.
00:22:52Is he going to get caught or is he going to be like a solid rotation
00:22:55player again?
00:22:56We don't really know.
00:22:57So we'll talk about a lot of that stuff.
00:22:59We'll hear a little bit more from Joe Missoula.
00:23:01We're going to just take a quick,
00:23:03quick pause.
00:23:04We'll tell you about our buddies over at prize picks and yeah,
00:23:07we're,
00:23:08we're jamming right now with the prize pick stuff because it's foot.
00:23:12There he is.

00:23:35So you want to get in on that?
00:23:36That one ended up being a little dice,
00:23:38but again,
00:23:42you got a lot of different things you can get in on the action here
00:23:44with prize picks.

00:24:16Who likes game time?
00:24:17Yeah.
00:24:18I love game time.
00:24:19Absolutely.
00:24:20I love games.
00:24:21I've used it all summer.
00:24:23I've used it more than a few times.
00:24:26Whoops.
00:24:27Something's going on here.
00:24:29Who's messing with my stuff?
00:24:31I'm not.
00:24:32My hands are right here.
00:24:33Huh?
00:24:34Something's.
00:24:35I'm not touching a thing here.
00:24:36My hands.
00:24:37There's my game time.
00:24:38Where is it?
00:24:39There's game time.
00:24:40This is cool.
00:24:41Cause what do we got?
00:24:42We got the pats this week.
00:24:43And like,
00:24:44as we said,
00:24:45uh,
00:24:46that ticket,
00:24:47it was reasonable.
00:24:48It's going to be,
00:24:49listen,
00:24:50it's going to be a beautiful day on Sunday.
00:24:51It's going to be a great day for football and get on game time,

00:25:04Do that.
00:25:05Help us help you guys.
00:25:06It's going to be an awesome day for football.
00:25:08Don't get so caught up in who wins the game.
00:25:10I don't want to get anyone's hopes up,
00:25:12but I can say that I would say this,
00:25:14that Pat's at least like last week gives you at least a little bit of
00:25:19hope that they can at least make it interesting.
00:25:22It was a fun day.
00:25:23Maybe not interesting,
00:25:24but they could Bobby had the time of his life.
00:25:26Bobby said it was a top five.
00:25:27I think he said it was a bar was on the ground.
00:25:31The time of his life.
00:25:33I mean,
00:25:34you couldn't be happier.
00:25:35I was that grounded pound,
00:25:37but here's what we're looking at here,
00:25:38guys.
00:25:39Wow.
00:25:40Okay.

00:25:47It looks like a little bit over a hundred.

00:26:18at wherever.
00:26:20And you can stroll on in there.
00:26:22You know,
00:26:23hats might be up seven zero by that time.
00:26:25Who knows?
00:26:26Yeah.
00:26:27So you have 20 bucks off your first purchase terms.
00:26:29Do apply back to what we were talking about here.
00:26:33And again,
00:26:34headed into training camp,
00:26:36which begins on the 25th.
00:26:37And we've got some questions,
00:26:38you know,
00:26:40heading into camp.
00:26:43And we'll ask some questions here.
00:26:45And among them is the complacency factor.
00:26:47Is there a fear with you guys here?
00:26:49And Joe talked about it.
00:26:51We're piggybacking off of Joe's comment on the lockdown Celtics podcast
00:26:55with John Corrales that we played earlier here.
00:26:58What's your,
00:27:00what's your,
00:27:01where's your concern level on them being too cool for school a little bit.
00:27:06Me or Bobby.
00:27:09I think it it's there.
00:27:12It's going to be there on certain nights and they have to counteract.
00:27:16And one thing they did well last year that Joe talked about is when they
00:27:19were in those spots,
00:27:20getting out of them,
00:27:21you go down big to Detroit where they go down like 28 in that game.
00:27:25And then they turned around the second half and when,
00:27:27and they did stuff like that throughout,
00:27:29they had slip up games.
00:27:30They turned around quickly after those.
00:27:32I think they never lost more than three games in a row last year.
00:27:35So that's exactly what you're looking for.
00:27:39You're going to have some shaky losses.
00:27:40You're going to have some games where no one plays,
00:27:42where you might lose those Milwaukee games you look at last year.
00:27:46So if that's all that happens here,
00:27:48that's fine.
00:27:50And say you drop from one to two,
00:27:52as Jimmy said earlier,
00:27:54that's not a huge deal.
00:27:56If you drop into three or four,
00:27:58you're going on a little bit more of an extended lull.
00:28:01Brown and Tatum specifically aren't playing the level of defense that you're
00:28:06looking for,
00:28:07which I think as we've talked about in past shows,
00:28:09this summer is going to be crucial.
00:28:10Those guys need a set of tone on that end,
00:28:12but also set a tone with their decision-making and giving up the ball and
00:28:16getting guys involved in all of that stuff.
00:28:18How much of that post-season, John,
00:28:20was those guys passing at a higher level than we've ever seen before?
00:28:24And that's going to be important.
00:28:26Yeah.
00:28:27Because those guys are going to be the tone setters on both ends of the
00:28:31floor.
00:28:32And for everybody else,
00:28:33you're just mostly falling in line.
00:28:35Holiday,
00:28:36White,
00:28:37those guys got to hit shots.
00:28:38They will.
00:28:39I think.
00:28:40I'm not worried about the.
00:28:41I think.
00:28:42How do they avoid complacency?
00:28:45They have to realize that they still don't have any respect by anybody
00:28:48outside of Boston.
00:28:49I think if they realize that,
00:28:51that a lot of people around the league think,
00:28:54even though they dominated,
00:28:56right.
00:28:57For some reason,
00:28:58I've never seen it before,
00:28:59but it almost feels like these guys personally took bigger hits.
00:29:02Then before they won a title,
00:29:05I'm talking about Tatum specifically.
00:29:07It feels like he's more of a,
00:29:09of a laugh around the league than he was before he won a title.
00:29:13So these guys need to realize that they actually do have to do it again,
00:29:16or when they don't,
00:29:17or if they don't,
00:29:18people are going to say,
00:29:19see,
00:29:20see,
00:29:21it was a fluke.
00:29:22See,
00:29:23they ended up playing a bunch of joke teams.
00:29:24Their run to the playoffs was the easiest run.
00:29:26We could possibly imagine.
00:29:27Everybody was hurt.
00:29:28The Mavericks stunk.
00:29:29They shouldn't have been in the Western conference.
00:29:31They shouldn't have been the team representing the West to begin with on
00:29:33and on and on and on.
00:29:34So Celtics,
00:29:35I think if they can understand that and realize that,
00:29:38that,
00:29:39Hey,
00:29:40you can rest all your rest on your laurels all you want,
00:29:42but nobody else really gives an F that's one way to,
00:29:45to not remain complacent.
00:29:47Cause I'm telling you,
00:29:48which is the truth.
00:29:49And I like the verse Celtics people in Celtics,
00:29:52la la land.
00:29:53Think that,
00:29:54think that they're,
00:29:56you know,
00:29:57untouchable,
00:29:58the greatest team of all time,
00:29:59all this.
00:30:00And you know what?
00:30:01They have every right to feel that way if they want,
00:30:02but it's not reality.
00:30:03It's not what the rest of the league thinks.
00:30:04So if Celtics players,
00:30:05which they,
00:30:06I'm sure they are a little bit more in tune to what's going on,
00:30:09goes on and Celtics fans are,
00:30:11if they understand that,
00:30:12and I think there'll be a lot less complacent knowing that they have to do
00:30:15it all over again.
00:30:16Yeah.
00:30:17Some people are thinking they got an easy route.
00:30:20Some people are thinking that they got the easy stuff like that.
00:30:23It's not that like,
00:30:25here's the thing.
00:30:26As I said,
00:30:27we can't undo what people,
00:30:28a lot of different things.
00:30:29Yeah,
00:30:30but it doesn't matter.
00:30:31The,
00:30:32the two things that people are carrying into this,
00:30:33the haters and the outside people,
00:30:37Of which there are many.
00:30:38Cause everybody hates the Celtics.
00:30:39You know,
00:30:40unless you love the Celtics,
00:30:41they're the most popular team,
00:30:42but they're also one of the most hated teams.
00:30:44So the hate's going to be there and just be prepared for it,
00:30:46guys.
00:30:47I'm going to prepare you right now for something.
00:30:49It's going to really upset you.
00:30:50Top 100,
00:30:52a bunch of top 100 lists are going to come out and Tatum's going to fall
00:30:55lower,
00:30:56way lower than you think he is because perception around Tatum fell last
00:31:00year.
00:31:01And he's going to come in ranked lower than you think he should be.
00:31:05And you're going to lose your minds.
00:31:06And you're going to yell at me and I'm not making the list.
00:31:09I'm just going to talk about it,
00:31:11but I'm telling you that John's extremely happy inside.
00:31:14I've only because I'm a merchant of chaos.
00:31:18It's not that I,
00:31:19I,
00:31:20you know,
00:31:21like I care.
00:31:22We're going to go live.
00:31:24As soon as the list comes out and Tatum's like 12,
00:31:27John's going to be like,
00:31:28guys,
00:31:29we're going to live in 30 minutes.
00:31:30But that's going to bother you.
00:31:33And then the,
00:31:34everything you hear on Twitter about Tatum and his bad shooting nights and,
00:31:38you know,
00:31:39and,
00:31:40and things like that.
00:31:41And then if they don't,
00:31:42if they're not winning early,
00:31:43you're going to get all of that.
00:31:44It was easy.
00:31:45It was easy.
00:31:46That's coming.
00:31:47You can't,
00:31:48you can't,
00:31:49the only way you undo that is by winning.
00:31:50Don't argue with people.
00:31:51Yeah.
00:31:52Don't yell at people.
00:31:53Don't,
00:31:54don't,
00:31:55don't say last year.
00:31:57Don't do that.
00:31:58You,
00:31:59you lose the argument,
00:32:00be cool and chill and just wait.
00:32:02It out.
00:32:03Okay.
00:32:04Yeah.
00:32:05They're cut.
00:32:06They want to rile you up.
00:32:07They want to rile you up.
00:32:08And that's what they're going to do.
00:32:09I want the trolls.
00:32:10Don't let the trolls get you.
00:32:11Cause they will.
00:32:12They always do.
00:32:13Yeah.
00:32:14So I'll ask you.
00:32:15So we'll ask about it here.
00:32:16You know,
00:32:17coming into it,
00:32:18everyone's kind of convinced that there's going to be some motivation
00:32:20because it was,
00:32:21you know,
00:32:22in addition to the disrespect that Tatum got,
00:32:27you know,
00:32:28where people were kind of crapping on his finals performance and his
00:32:30post-season performance because he wasn't shooting great.
00:32:33You had,
00:32:34you know,
00:32:35it was a snubberific off season for these guys.
00:32:38Jalen doesn't make the Olympic team,
00:32:40you know,
00:32:41Derek White does.
00:32:42And,
00:32:43you know,
00:32:44Jalen's like,
00:32:45what the F you know,
00:32:46conspiracy.
00:32:47And then Tatum makes it and then gets benched.
00:32:49And so again,
00:32:50they're riding surprisingly low considering how high they should be
00:32:54instead of a coronation of these two great young stars.
00:32:58There's a vibe of like disrespect,
00:33:02not that good.
00:33:03So,
00:33:04you know,
00:33:05you've got one side that says,
00:33:06you know,
00:33:07they're going to come out and,
00:33:08you know,
00:33:09with a ton of revenge,
00:33:10you know,
00:33:11on their minds and other wondering if that's going to kind of bother
00:33:15them and they're going to,
00:33:16you know,
00:33:17they can't get it out of that.
00:33:18Again,
00:33:19Missoula was asked about Tatum and Brown and the kind of summers that
00:33:21they went through.
00:33:22Not,
00:33:23not much of an answer here,
00:33:24but listen from Joe.
00:33:25Yeah.
00:33:26I,
00:33:27I hope or no or,
00:33:28or project or think that both,
00:33:29you know,
00:33:30because I think Jalen and Jason both went through similar situations as
00:33:32far as having a goal and not achieving it.
00:33:35And I don't know how they processed it.
00:33:37I,
00:33:38I didn't really try to figure it out.
00:33:40I think.
00:33:42Watching both of those things kind of unfold more than anything else
00:33:45motivated me.
00:33:47Of like,
00:33:48you know,
00:33:49our,
00:33:50our two guys,
00:33:51you know,
00:33:52whether they can control it or not,
00:33:53I'm going through a little bit of a adverse situation and I got to be
00:33:56better so I can help them be better.
00:33:58They're going to go about it the way that they're two,
00:34:00you know,
00:34:02Competitors and,
00:34:03and,
00:34:04you know,
00:34:05they are who they are.
00:34:06They're two great,
00:34:07great players.
00:34:08So I'm not going to try to figure out how they're going to go about it.
00:34:11If they want to take revenge on that particular game,
00:34:13that's great for them.
00:34:14Like I said,
00:34:15my number one job is to,
00:34:16I got to grow as a coach.
00:34:18I got to get better so that I can get them better and help them get
00:34:21better and be a catalyst for growth.
00:34:24Revenge is healthy and it's not at the same time.
00:34:27I think,
00:34:28you know,
00:34:29just like anything else,
00:34:30you can have a little bit of it,
00:34:31but I think it's a short term thing.
00:34:32And,
00:34:33you know,
00:34:34when that runs out,
00:34:35what are you going to rely on?
00:34:36So there's,
00:34:37there's short term moments to use all different kinds of motivational
00:34:39tactics,
00:34:40but they can't be a longterm solutions,
00:34:44you know,
00:34:45and the longterm solution is just growth.
00:34:47We just have to get better every single day.
00:34:49We got to grow individually.
00:34:50We're going to grow as a team and you bounce around those short term
00:34:54motivational tactics that you may need from time to time,
00:34:56but the longterm approach is,
00:34:58is the growth and the handling of both success and failure.
00:35:01They're both dangerous.
00:35:02If you don't handle them properly.
00:35:07Takeaway.
00:35:10Takeaway.
00:35:11Very Joe answer.
00:35:12I mean,
00:35:13I would agree to some extent,
00:35:14you know,
00:35:15like the whole trying to use motivation from what people say,
00:35:19people say about you negatively and whatnot.
00:35:21It's,
00:35:22it's short term for sure.
00:35:23I mean,
00:35:24the only way that they're going to continue to see their success is to
00:35:27play,
00:35:28play connected basketball,
00:35:30the way they are.
00:35:31They have been the way they were last season.
00:35:33It all goes,
00:35:34goes back to,
00:35:35are they going to play team first basketball or are they going to say,
00:35:37okay,
00:35:38we got ours.
00:35:39And Tatum's hearing people or the experts criticize and say,
00:35:43Oh,
00:35:44he can't shoot anymore.
00:35:45He can't score.
00:35:46He's not elite.
00:35:47He's not,
00:35:48he's not,
00:35:49he's not,
00:35:50he's not,
00:35:51he's not,
00:35:52he's not,
00:35:53he's not,
00:35:54he's not,
00:35:55he's not,
00:35:56he's not,
00:35:57he's not,
00:35:58he's not,
00:35:59he's not,
00:36:00he's not,
00:36:01he's not,
00:36:02he's not,
00:36:03he's not,
00:36:04he's not,
00:36:05he's not,
00:36:06he's not,
00:36:07he's not,
00:36:08he's not,
00:36:09he's not,
00:36:10he's not,
00:36:11he's not,
00:36:12he's not,
00:36:13he's not,
00:36:14he's not,
00:36:15he's not,
00:36:16he's not,
00:36:17he's not,
00:36:18he's not,
00:36:19he's not,
00:36:20he's not,
00:36:21he's not,
00:36:22he's not,
00:36:23he's not,
00:36:24he's not,
00:36:25he's not,
00:36:26he's not,
00:36:27he's not,
00:36:28he's not,
00:36:29he's not,

00:36:54he's not,
00:36:55he's not,
00:36:56he's not,
00:36:57he's not,
00:36:58he's not,

00:40:37he's not.
00:40:38You know,
00:40:39the reason I thought,
00:40:40and I think a lot of people felt really good about their chances last
00:40:43I know like the easy,
00:40:44lazy narrative is
00:40:45I know like the easy,
00:40:46lazy narrative is the development of
00:40:47the Jays
00:40:48but it was really the grownups in
00:40:49the Jays but it was really the grownups in
00:40:51the room that
00:40:52stabilized it all,
00:40:53you know,
00:40:54and took you to a different level and that's really what it
00:40:55was,
00:40:56they were professionals,
00:40:57they
00:40:58when about their business in a professional
00:40:59manner every single day.
00:41:00So,
00:41:01on those,
00:41:02you just have guys that don't have the,
00:41:04like,
00:41:05yeah,
00:41:06that have ebbs and flows when it comes to focus, especially superstar teams,
00:41:10this team doesn't.
00:41:11And it didn't, uh, because both Tatum and Brown, of course also took everything
00:41:18extremely seriously last year, but the other guys just didn't allow it and I
00:41:22don't think they'll allow it again.
00:41:23So I'm not really worried about complacency there.
00:41:25I don't think you're going to have a lot of those press conferences
00:41:27where we got to this, we got to that, but it was not Tatum complacency as much.
00:41:31I'm a little worried because he's lost something and he's going to try to find
00:41:37it and that, and, and it's part of an identity and who he is and what he's
00:41:41supposed to be.
00:41:42He changed his style in the finals because he was getting doubled.
00:41:46He became more of a passer, but he hasn't been able to shoot and he hasn't been
00:41:49able to shoot for a little while now.
00:41:51If you block off all of this, especially from three.
00:41:54So he's got to get that.
00:41:56And then he's got to figure like, am I that guy?
00:41:58Is this what I do?
00:41:59Like, what's my game again?
00:42:00It's weird to be so far along in his, uh, development and have all of the
00:42:06accolades that he have and have just won a title and have him kind of still
00:42:10questioning, what do I do here?
00:42:12And it is, it's going to be a little weird for me, uh, like a weird thing to
00:42:17watch, uh, it may be seamless and he may go back to it and the shooting stuff is
00:42:20all a thing of the past and he's just the same version of the same guy he's always
00:42:24been.
00:42:25So I wouldn't say concern.
00:42:26I'm just interested what happens with Tatum.
00:42:28I definitely am.
00:42:30It's the biggest thing to watch for sure.
00:42:31Because he's interesting to me.
00:42:33I'm sure I'm really curious, like, cause I think there's a lot of different
00:42:37outcomes.
00:42:37The most predictable one is he's pretty close to the same guy he's been.
00:42:41Cause I think he's been, you know, consistently kind of the same player with,
00:42:45um, a little more refinement over the last year or two, but he's been kind of
00:42:50similar.
00:42:51And again, the shooting splits were solid for most of the regular season.
00:42:55Um, it just kind of left him in the playoffs and then the Olympics there.
00:42:59Um, so I, I just kind of want to see where he goes with it.
00:43:03Yeah.
00:43:03And you've talked about how it gets better.
00:43:05I hope he can just compartmentalize it and just leave it.
00:43:07Just leave it.
00:43:08I mean, you have to leave last season where it is.
00:43:11You can't, I said earlier, you can't rest on your laurels, but at the same time,
00:43:14you can't also harp on something or, or like if you're a cornerback in the NFL
00:43:20and you give up a big, a big 35 yard pass or whatever, you better get your ass up
00:43:25on the line and be ready for the next play.
00:43:27You can't sit there and sulk about it.
00:43:29See, it's a, you gotta have a short memory, right?
00:43:31So if I'm Tatum, it's all about confidence, really.
00:43:36I mean, you had, he has to be confident in his, in his ability to be one of the
00:43:40better shooters, you know, improve that outside shot again, you know, get it back
00:43:44to where it was, um, be aggressive drive.
00:43:47Um, when he is playing aggressive, he's hard to stop.
00:43:52It's when he gets kind of complacent and into that step back.
00:43:56Step back shot mode that makes John lose his hair.
00:44:01Um, that that's when, you know, he kind of falls into those bad habits again,
00:44:05but the other stuff's going to still be there.
00:44:07He's still going to rebound.
00:44:08Well, he's still going to pass.
00:44:09Well, he's, uh, by all accounts, a great guy, right?
00:44:14So, I mean, that's going to count for something, you know, he's
00:44:16got a good hat on his shoulders.
00:44:17And he plays every game.
00:44:19He plays all the time.
00:44:21Um, he's never, he's not the type of player who you're worried about.
00:44:24Who's going to have his focus, uh, you know, somewhere else, or
00:44:28he's not going to show up to play.
00:44:30Um, there's a lot of great things about Jason Tatum that I wouldn't expect
00:44:34non-Celtics fans to ever know or admit to, even if they didn't saw it.
00:44:38Um, but at the end of the day, it comes down to what are you going to do on the
00:44:42court and if everyone's expecting him to shoot the ball a certain way, uh, or the
00:44:46way that they've seen in the past, then that's something that is on him to get
00:44:50back to where it needs to be.
00:44:51It has nothing to do with the Olympics.
00:44:53Let's forget about the Olympics.
00:44:55The Olympics are like a fun, they're supposed to be like a fun thing and a
00:45:00thing to take pride in as a team to do.
00:45:02And yeah, Curry had an unbelievable, unforgettable Olympic run.
00:45:06I would say LeBron did.
00:45:07Um, and that will be a part of their, a part of their legacy.
00:45:12The Olympics will not, will not be a part of Jason Tatum's legacy.
00:45:15At least not that one.
00:45:16No one's going to talk.
00:45:17He's got two gold medals.
00:45:19Exactly.
00:45:20That's what, that's what will go on the, on the plaque someday.
00:45:23Is that he's a two time, you know, gold medal, whatever you call it.
00:45:26US team USA.
00:45:27Um, it's not going to be that, you know, he forgot how to shoot the ball or didn't
00:45:31get any playing time or Steve Kerr screwed with his head.
00:45:34F Steve Kerr, by the way.
00:45:35I'm sick of that guy.
00:45:36But, um, that's just, that's just besides the point.
00:45:39Um, but yeah, I, I, I'm, I'm hoping that Tatum can block out the noise, just play
00:45:45his game and until he, you know, I have no reason to believe he won't until I see it.
00:45:53Yeah.
00:45:53Uh, we'll, we'll continue this conversation.
00:45:55Take a quick pause.
00:45:56I want to tell you again, again, our cup runneth over in this
00:45:59off season here with sponsors.
00:46:01Uh, and we are talking about where are these guys during the season?
00:46:04You know, I know, I know we try to tell them like we've got this, but you know,
00:46:08they're, they're going to hang with us through the season too, um, here, but,
00:46:12uh, neutrophil, we've told you all about that here.

00:46:37I took it.
00:46:39Yeah, I got some, I don't know if you guys got some, I got some.
00:46:43Yeah, no, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm dab.
00:46:46I'm going to, I'll start dabbling in it.
00:46:48I can't, I can't say that I've, that I've, uh, for men of a certain age
00:46:53really doesn't matter what age again, uh, you know, it's, uh, you're, you're
00:46:56getting here, you want to take care of yourself, you want to look good.
00:46:59Uh, and you want to get after it here.

00:47:36Once again, neutrophil.com promo garden.
00:47:39And while we're at it, we're also going to, what's that?
00:47:43Love it.
00:47:44Don't wait until it's too late.
00:47:46Yeah.
00:47:47Don't wait until it's too late.
00:47:48We got to talk about, and the last thing I want to talk about is rocket money.
00:47:51Um, I love rocket money.
00:47:55You do.
00:47:56I do love rocket money.
00:47:58Cause I am the worst when it comes to this stuff.
00:48:00And again, um, it's finding subscriptions.
00:48:05You forgot about, and I'm not going to name which ones, but boy, has this thing
00:48:11saved me, saved me a bunch of bucks.
00:48:13It's a personal finance app.
00:48:15Helps you find and cancel unwanted subscriptions, monitors your spending,
00:48:18helps you lower your bills so you can grow your savings.
00:48:21Trust me, you've got a lot of stuff out there.
00:48:23You know, nothing about over 5 million users here using a rocket money.
00:48:27They've saved a total of $500 million for their customers
00:48:32and canceled subscriptions.
00:48:33It's insane.
00:48:34$500 million saving members up to $740 a year.
00:48:40And again, we've said this before, and these figures are astonishing to me.
00:48:43Most people think they spend 50, 60 bucks a year on subscriptions
00:48:47and the average is about 300.
00:48:49And if you're like addicted to content, like I am, it's probably
00:48:53like, I don't even want to talk about it.
00:48:55It's insane.
00:48:58John ran the numbers and shop out.
00:49:03John is a serial subscriber.
00:49:05I'm a serial subscriber.
00:49:07I just want, I can't get enough of it.
00:49:09But even if you're not, there might just be one thing that surprises you.
00:49:12Exactly.
00:49:12So check it out.
00:49:13It did cost me 10 bucks a month.
00:49:15He's got like $40.
00:49:19But anyway, stop wasting money on things you don't use.
00:49:23And that's where you do get stuck there.
00:49:24Cancel those unwanted subscriptions.
00:49:26Go to rocket money.com slash garden rocket money.com slash garden.
00:49:31Guys, we're moving on here.
00:49:32We talked about those questions with Tatum and Brown, obviously the
00:49:36complacency, and I think it goes in there for Zingas.
00:49:39I know we've talked about a bit, but I'll just throw one more question out
00:49:43at you as we kind of like, look at a bunch of things that they're entering camp.
00:49:47You know, we talked about those open auditions for the
00:49:50ninth spot or the 10th spot.
00:49:51And again, once for Zingas is in there, you know, you've got your six and
00:49:56then you've got your Hauser and then you've got your Pritchard and you're
00:50:00at eight and then you've got your Luke who's kind of locked in there as your
00:50:05which means you're really only auditioning for like the 10th spot.
00:50:08But while Porzingis is gone, you'll be playing other people, which means
00:50:11obviously you could see a big or something there, but I do think you've
00:50:16got NBA talent here and it is interesting.
00:50:18Are you not going to give your rookie a shot to play your first round pick?
00:50:21Your first, first round pick of the Brad Stevens era and Baylor Shireman.
00:50:25Are you not going to give Keita a chance to develop here and just kind of
00:50:28default to Luke because Bobby likes him and Joe feels safe with him.
00:50:32Are you going to, you got Lonnie Walker who can do stuff, but again, we don't
00:50:36know exactly what he's going to be or if he's even going to make the team.
00:50:39Is there another wild card who might potentially pop in there
00:50:43and sneak some minutes out there?
00:50:45What do you think, you know, who can see?
00:50:47And then we talked about Jaden as well.
00:50:49Like who can sneak in here?
00:50:53Springer and Shireman are certainly the guys to watch early.
00:50:55They'll get opportunities in the preseason.
00:50:58They'll probably have some good reps of practice with the second unit.
00:51:02And when a guy goes down or a guy sits out, those are the next two guys
00:51:07you're probably looking at because Shireman can maybe play a little three,
00:51:11four and a smaller lineup and rebounds well, which is the big thing.
00:51:16Cause the more I think about it, John, I do think they're going
00:51:19to miss O'Shea just a little bit.
00:51:21He was so good on the boards.
00:51:23He was always that next guy who came right into the game.
00:51:25I like the energy for sure.
00:51:27Yeah.
00:51:28Yeah.
00:51:28And he was pretty steady in what he did.
00:51:30Like he could defend a wing.
00:51:33He could rebound.
00:51:34He had one of the top offensive rebounding rates in the league.
00:51:38And that's something Shireman can do.
00:51:40Athletically, is he able to keep up right away?
00:51:42He's obviously the complete opposite athletically of what O'Shea brought you
00:51:46there, but he brings shooting, which is so important.
00:51:49He didn't shoot great in summer league.
00:51:51So it's going to be that thing, John.
00:51:53Does he go through the knee Smith situation where he comes in?
00:51:57It's a short stint.
00:51:59There's one, two shots.
00:52:00He doesn't make them and then he's out.
00:52:02That's going to be tough and he'll have opportunities, I think, when they're
00:52:05shorthanded, but he's a guy that's going to be important, I think, because they
00:52:08need another wing who can help them play small or help them play with three wings.
00:52:13It can't always be double big.
00:52:14I know Joe loves double big, just like he may did.
00:52:17And I love double big too, but you got to have some variety for the matchups out
00:52:20there, so he should get opportunities early.
00:52:21And if you really want to go extra small, Springer's at least a guy
00:52:25who can guard up a position.
00:52:26I'm not super confident in him being able to fit in off the field.
00:52:29Being able to fit in offensively with where his game's at on that end of the
00:52:33floor, but it's the last problem is the shooting and you can't shoot.
00:52:40You can't shoot.
00:52:40You can't play on this team.
00:52:42Not, not for extended periods of time.
00:52:44That's what killed Brissette.
00:52:46That's what kills, you know, killed.
00:52:48They're going to have a five.
00:52:49It's not going to be able to shoot for sure.
00:52:51You have to, you got to do that, but that's going to absolutely kill the
00:52:55vibes for anybody else trying to play.
00:52:58You're never playing with two guys who can't shoot out there.
00:53:01They barely want one, you know?
00:53:03And again, Luke was, they were, you know, Luke is your third
00:53:06center coming in was fine.
00:53:08You could live with that.
00:53:09He's the only guy who played regular minutes last year that couldn't shoot.
00:53:13And usually you have Horford.
00:53:14There's a version of Luke.
00:53:16They used to shoot.
00:53:18Luke was once upon a time, a stretch four.
00:53:20I don't know why it doesn't shoot anymore.
00:53:21He's got a pretty good looking stroke actually, but he's the only guy who
00:53:24doesn't, who doesn't pull it.
00:53:25Um, when he's open, every, everyone else does.
00:53:28So I don't know.
00:53:29I, I think it's gotta be Shireman.
00:53:31I think he needs, I think he wants to shooters.
00:53:33I don't know how anybody else gets regular minutes if they
00:53:36can't, if they can't stroke it.
00:53:37So I think it's probably Shireman obviously, and he's a rookie, so
00:53:42it's not going to be big minutes, but I think he's going to get an opportunity.
00:53:44I think everybody likes the idea of Springer, but I can't say that I've
00:53:48been impressed by anything I've seen so far, so he's going to have to
00:53:50show me something before I pick him.
00:53:52Can somebody explain to me somebody who's smarter than me, which there are many.
00:53:58What's the Lonnie Walker situation?
00:54:00Why, why would he be cut?
00:54:01I'm sure this is a very easy answer that I just haven't done enough research to
00:54:05find, but the easy answer is a Lonnie Walker because this guy, Jordan Walsh
00:54:10here too, from a Ben, Ben, aren't you guys on the air that they just
00:54:14did a show first to the floor.
00:54:17If you didn't catch their stroke live or you did, and you're hopping over
00:54:20here or you didn't know they did it.
00:54:22Watch it.
00:54:23That's going to be on CLNS later as well as far as your YouTube as well.
00:54:26Yeah.
00:54:26Um, okay.
00:54:28Go ahead.
00:54:29Why wouldn't it be Lonnie Walker?
00:54:30I watched Lonnie Walker, like torch this out because at one point, so
00:54:35I think everybody did.
00:54:36I think that's why everyone's so excited about him.
00:54:38We're going to do this thing again, right?
00:54:41There's guys who people love with the name and all of that.
00:54:45I don't think he's a phenomenal player.
00:54:48I, every team around the league could have given him a minimum and they didn't.
00:54:53Yeah.
00:54:53There's obviously something there that's keeping people away.
00:54:55And there's a reason why he's got a contract that they don't, that's
00:54:58they, that they can bail out of.
00:55:00So here's the thing, right?
00:55:02You got a guy.
00:55:03I'm going to go back to Cornette, right?
00:55:05You signed Cornette for minor league deal.
00:55:07And I said, that was a steal.
00:55:11You have them on this minor league deal right now where it's like, all right,
00:55:14well, you go to Maine for a couple of months and you effectively have them for
00:55:18free at that point.
00:55:19And then later in the year, you can call them up if it's going well, that'd be
00:55:23amazing because here's the deal right now.
00:55:27There's no minutes for him.
00:55:30He's a guy who doesn't defend.
00:55:32So I don't think that's going to endear him to Joe playing him a ton.
00:55:36And if you sign them, it's $10 million in tax.
00:55:40So that's why he's not signed full time, effectively.
00:55:44And he's bounced around a little bit and there's some other stuff, but you don't
00:55:48want to sign a guy on day one who's never going to play and isn't a slam dunk to
00:55:56make the team.
00:55:57So he was willing to sign a training camp deal here.
00:56:00I don't know if he's willing to go to Maine.
00:56:02It'd be great if he was, but anyone can grab him at this point.
00:56:05So everyone's been doing backflips about this for three weeks now, and I get it
00:56:10because it's the only thing going on.
00:56:11He's got a pretty good name.
00:56:12And like Jimmy said, he torched the Celtics at one point.
00:56:14He had that game against Golden State with the Lakers, but he really hasn't been a
00:56:19consistent, effective player so far in his career.
00:56:23And, you know, we're six years into it at this point.
00:56:25So it's tough.
00:56:27You know, he's had a lot of stuff go on and he's bounced around and that goes, you
00:56:31know, guys go through it with stuff sometimes in the league.
00:56:34And sometimes you just need to take a step back and say, all right, how am I going to
00:56:38become the player who can impact a team like the Celtics or whoever it might end up
00:56:42being? And I actually think that's going to be a pretty cool story to track this
00:56:45year if he's willing to embrace that.
00:56:47But I would not expect him to be a guy who's in their rotation, at least in the
00:56:53first half next year.
00:56:54I think it's going to take some time.
00:56:55You might end up being a project.
00:56:57He's a guy that can easily, easily come off the bench.
00:57:00And he's done it for most of his career.
00:57:02So it shouldn't be a problem.
00:57:04And he can give you 10, 12 points and he can play.
00:57:09But do they need that?
00:57:11We're talking about who doesn't need to have you seen this bench.
00:57:17But you're going to put the ball in his hand, talking about Jordan Clark, Jalen
00:57:21Springer. Who?
00:57:26Who's Clark?
00:57:27We're in wall. Sorry.
00:57:30You know, you know, I was talking about guys who we just talked about the fact.
00:57:34I'm so glad O'Shea is gone because I would have called him Jacobi for a whole other
00:57:37year. Yeah.
00:57:38I know, but let's start acting like this is a one.
00:57:41Let's start acting like this is a one through 12 set team.
00:57:44There are going to be opportunities for a guy like a guy, just like a guy.
00:57:49Honestly, just like him to be able to contribute, Bobby, a role coming off the
00:57:55bench, a guy who's accepted that role of his career.
00:57:58He's a former first round pick.
00:57:59It's not like he came out of nowhere and yeah, maybe it took him a little bit
00:58:02longer. He's only 25 years old.
00:58:04And yeah, maybe it took him a little bit longer.
00:58:06He's only 25 years old.
00:58:07It's not like he's this journeyman who's, you know, on the other side of 30 now and
00:58:13just trying to hang on.
00:58:14I mean, he's a guy that they can they can turn to in a situation, especially if we're
00:58:20talking about resting guys throughout the throughout the course of the season.
00:58:24He should be a guy they could actually lean on who has real NBA experience and can
00:58:29come in and contribute. So that's why I think that he should make the team.
00:58:34They obviously like something about him.
00:58:36There's a lot of buzz around them training for him at the deadline, and he did have
00:58:39good numbers in Brooklyn last year.
00:58:41But I think what you should be excited about is the chance that you can mold him
00:58:46into a more effective player over a long period of time, because, again, we keep
00:58:50talking about maybe like second draft guys, guys that you can reshape.
00:58:55It's not a great comparison because they're two completely different players.
00:58:58But Cornette was one guy to start his career.
00:59:01He spends that year in Maine.
00:59:03He completely changes his game.
00:59:05And then two years later, you have a backup big third center who is really effective and
00:59:10ended up playing playoff minutes for you.
00:59:12So if Walker, again, I wouldn't have big expectations from this year, but if he's
00:59:16willing to play in Maine a little bit, change his game, hone in on defense, because I
00:59:22just think there's holes in his game.
00:59:25Yeah, but you're not, Bobby, I think you're judging him on the standard of like a like
00:59:30a starter. You're talking about your 10th man, like everybody's 10th man has holes in
00:59:35the probably better than most.
00:59:38Didn't we go over this last year?
00:59:39Like how many people have a 10th man like that's good, like like that doesn't have
00:59:47words like you need specialists and like, you know, you want guys who can come in and
00:59:52do certain things well, like if they could do all of it well, they wouldn't be signing,
00:59:57you know, section.
00:59:58What are they called?
00:59:59What are these 10 exhibit 10 exhibit 10 contract contracts?
01:00:04I mean, give me a break.
01:00:06Yeah, and he's a guy, he's a first round pick.
01:00:09He's, you know, just outside of a lottery pick.
01:00:11Like he's a guy with a pedigree, a guy with offensive skills.
01:00:14Like you just take that was six years ago, Johnny Walker, and you live with everything
01:00:18else. Yeah, it was six years ago.
01:00:21He's on his fourth team in four years.
01:00:24I think that says something.
01:00:25He's not even a minimum guy.
01:00:2710 guy that makes you think that there's something else there.
01:00:32Yeah, you know, so especially coming off a year where he shot so well.
01:00:37So I don't know.
01:00:38Is it habit?
01:00:39He's on the Nets.
01:00:40He's not a rebuilding team.
01:00:42Like, there's got to be something out there that's like, there's like, yeah, I'm just
01:00:47going to pass, you know, because like, again, it is the Nets and they weren't doing
01:00:50anything great.
01:00:52But you're talking about a guy who, again, as Bobby said, you know, shot it pretty well
01:00:56last year, 38 percent, you know, from from from from three on five attempts a game.
01:01:00That's good.
01:01:01You know, I mean, he's you know, he's shot, you know, that's just what he does.
01:01:07You know, he's a guy who scored, you know, the averaged double digits plus over the
01:01:11last, you know, in in 20 plus minutes a game.
01:01:14I mean, that's who he is.
01:01:17It's a it's it's it's bench buckets.
01:01:19That's yeah, I was just surprised.
01:01:21And I'm still surprised because I think there's still some people out there that
01:01:24think this. He's not going to vault over Pritchard.
01:01:28Pritchard was so good last year, teams couldn't pick on him defensively.
01:01:32He really formed a nice, consistent role in this team.
01:01:35And I don't know what it is because he scores a lot of points sometimes, I guess,
01:01:39that people get excited about this guy.
01:01:41And yeah, he can shoot a little bit.
01:01:43It's not a great career percentage from three and a lot of it's off the dribble.
01:01:49So that opportunity just isn't there on this team.
01:01:51So if he's able to find another team that's going to give him that opportunity,
01:01:55I'm sure he'll leap at it.
01:01:57But if he's able to be patient here and work his way up, because right now,
01:02:01let's just face it, John, we know what Joe prioritizes.
01:02:04Smart, consistent defenders.
01:02:06He's not that.
01:02:07In fact, he rate is one of the worst defenders in the league last year
01:02:10and guys who can play a role in this offense.
01:02:14And in Brooklyn, he had a ton of ball time, a ton of opportunity.
01:02:17And he's he's just not going to have that here.
01:02:19So if he is signed to a real deal off the bat,
01:02:23and maybe that'll be smart so you can keep them, you know,
01:02:25who are you going to get that's better than Lonnie Walker at that spot?
01:02:28I think that you're talking about your 10th, your 10th.
01:02:30We're going to start making effectively your 15th guy.
01:02:34If he makes the team as your 15th, you're talking about he's vying
01:02:37for 10th man minutes, you know, like it's not.
01:02:40You're not given him a lot of responsibility here.
01:02:45If he does play.
01:02:47No, but you also don't want him just sitting around, never playing ever.
01:02:51And then you've got your core.
01:02:53Two years with Derek.
01:02:55You've got Tillman, Shireman, Lonnie Walker.
01:02:58You know, if he makes the team, you know, Springer, you've got guys that like.
01:03:04Might, you know, kind of be wondering, like, why shouldn't I be?
01:03:08You know, everybody kind of sucks it up for a year.
01:03:11You know, Tillman gets here.
01:03:12Happy to be here.
01:03:12I'll do whatever Springer again.
01:03:14He's a project.
01:03:15The guy you're looking for.
01:03:16Even Walsh had to go to Maine for a year.
01:03:18I think Walsh.
01:03:19I'm I'm really not bullish on him, man.
01:03:22I think that this is a rough summer.
01:03:25I think that experiment's almost over.
01:03:28You know, you know, he might have been vaulted by, you know, J.D.
01:03:31in terms of, you know, how the organization views these guys.
01:03:34So again, second round picks, they are what they are.
01:03:38You know, they're not supposed to.
01:03:39They're not supposed to.
01:03:40I remember draft night.
01:03:41I had like one like slightly critical tweet about like the draft
01:03:46and how lame it was, and people were like, you don't know Jordan Walsh, man.
01:03:49Like you don't know ball and all this.
01:03:52It's like, just let's just let it rise in immediately.
01:03:55And I'm excited about Shireman.
01:03:57The one place, Jimmy, you can always feel best
01:04:00that you're going to alter the percentages are heavily in your favor
01:04:03to win the argument is trash every second round pick because they're
01:04:07I'm not even trash at any.
01:04:09What I'm saying is every every NBA fan, not just Celtics fan,
01:04:14is going to tell you why it's a steal.
01:04:16I really like this guy and he could be good.
01:04:18And they're none of them are good.
01:04:19None of them like one a year to a year like.
01:04:22So you're going to win that one.
01:04:24I would say I would stick to your guns there
01:04:26on the second rounders.
01:04:27You get, you know, no ball or not.
01:04:30No ball. You get.
01:04:31Yeah. And Jimmy, you weren't mad at the player.
01:04:33You were mad that they kept trading, trading back.
01:04:36That's exactly what it was.
01:04:37Because you can't do that and say we got it again, right?
01:04:40Yeah, exactly. That's what it was.
01:04:41I was like, wow, it would have been cool to what I said was this.
01:04:44It would have been nice if there was a player that they actually liked
01:04:47when it was their turn to pick.
01:04:48It was like, you know, no ball, man.
01:04:51I was like, and that's what happened this year, right?
01:04:53So that's exciting is that they got a guy that not only they targeted this year,
01:04:57but that they had in the building
01:04:59two years ago when he went to the draft process the first time.
01:05:01So I'm excited about Shireman.
01:05:03I don't know if he's going to be a slam dunk right off the bat.
01:05:07But he'll have opportunities.
01:05:09And I think he has a nice skill set.
01:05:11I said it on draft night, John.
01:05:14Usually you get a shooter and it's just a shooter.
01:05:16There's nothing else there.
01:05:17But he rebounds.
01:05:18He his passing is just dazzling, dazzling the watch.
01:05:22And he made up for all the bad shooting at summer league
01:05:24by making so many great plays with his hands.
01:05:27Yeah. So I'm excited about him.
01:05:30That's what you want to see.
01:05:31And I want to see Kata because I think the he needs opportunity.
01:05:35The athletic skills, the athletic ability there.
01:05:38And, you know, and again, it's nothing against Luke, who I actually really do like.
01:05:41But you want to see a higher ceiling.
01:05:43And if Kata might have it, but you don't know if he'll ever reach it.
01:05:47We're going to wrap our Celtics talk, but we are going to come back,
01:05:51you know, and do more stuff on offseason questions.
01:05:54And as we said, we're getting really, really close to
01:05:58the beginning of the season and media day, which should be a ton of fun.
01:06:01We're going to quickly get everybody's thoughts here on the Patriots
01:06:03week one win over the Bengals.
01:06:06Bobby Manning had the time of his life watching this game.
01:06:11Bobby said it was a top five win in the Patriots.
01:06:16Yeah, no, it was. Yeah, it was.
01:06:18It was Celtics championship.
01:06:21Well, I don't know where we were that night.
01:06:23Seahawks, you just went into this game saying they're going to get destroyed.
01:06:29Camp was awful.
01:06:30Everyone stinks.
01:06:31They're playing the quarterback who wasn't as good as the other guy.
01:06:35So and you're playing this team that has been really good in different spots,
01:06:39went to the Super Bowl a couple of years ago.
01:06:41So you're just going into this game thinking it's going to be a disaster
01:06:45and for it to go as well as it did, but also for them to execute
01:06:50so methodically, make some big plays on defense, actually look like a great
01:06:54defense, as I know Taylor's been yelling from the mountains
01:06:57over on the Patriots side of things here.
01:07:00It just makes you think that maybe they can actually compete
01:07:04a little bit this season, because what are we talking about, John, going in
01:07:07two and 15 tank worst team in the league,
01:07:11just, you know, thrown this year away.
01:07:15And so you hear all that going in and I'm not paying too close attention
01:07:18to camp and what's going on and all that.
01:07:20And then they just come out and do this.
01:07:22It blew me away because when has you ever had such low expectations for them
01:07:28compared to what it actually ended up being last year?
01:07:31Yeah, last year.
01:07:33No, last year was a disaster.
01:07:36I mean, I had zero expectations last year.
01:07:39And I know that I'm saying you come in, you come in with no expectations
01:07:42and then they actually surprise you and play great.
01:07:45That's why I was so thrilled.
01:07:47Not really.
01:07:48Maybe Max first year.
01:07:50I don't know.
01:07:52Well, they weren't they weren't great, though.
01:07:53They just snuck into the playoffs and got smoked.
01:07:56Bobby, do you want to finish your thoughts or no, I'm good.
01:07:59Yeah. So my thoughts is this first, I'm going to say right off the bat.
01:08:02And I've said it on this show.
01:08:04Huge Mayo guy, huge male guy.
01:08:06So I am very happy.
01:08:07He's the biggest winner.
01:08:09He got the win and he maybe like silenced some of the haters.
01:08:13And again, of which there are many.
01:08:16I'm looking at one to my left, my far left, who is very quiet right now.
01:08:21I was dubious.
01:08:22I was dubious.
01:08:23It's Mayo proved and this is Mayo just proved that he's
01:08:28capable of the job.
01:08:30And what I what I knew about Mayo is that the players would love playing for Mayo.
01:08:35And it sounds like and it appears that they do.
01:08:37So that's not going to be a problem.
01:08:38And it's actually huge to have a coach that players want to play for.
01:08:43I think that used to be Belichick for a long, long, long time.
01:08:46I also think towards the end of his career, guys just didn't want to play for him
01:08:49anymore. I think he was just too stuck in his ways.
01:08:51He lost kind of lost touch a little bit.
01:08:52And I think players, younger guys
01:08:54could not connect with him to the point where they just did.
01:08:57There are still some that that would.
01:08:59But I think majority, it was not as enticing as it used to be.
01:09:01They wouldn't put up with the same way they put up with it
01:09:03when Brady was quarterbacking.
01:09:04So that's a side note to that.
01:09:06But I think Mayo is a very,
01:09:09a very much like a player's coach.
01:09:11So that's that Patriots win.
01:09:14That was a surprise.
01:09:15The way they won couldn't have drawn up a more boring game plan.
01:09:18Maybe that's going to be the only way they win this year.
01:09:20I think opponents now have something to look at and say, OK, well,
01:09:24the only reason the only way they can win that game is by running the ball.
01:09:27And to their credit, give Stevenson credit.
01:09:29And those guys at the line, the O-line play better than anyone thought they would.
01:09:33They ran the ball, what they call it, ran it, ran it to the hill
01:09:35or ran it over the hill.
01:09:37I don't know what they were saying, but they did it.
01:09:40Let's see if they can continue to win one dimensionally,
01:09:43because I do not trust the passing game in any capacity.
01:09:48So at some point, the Pats are going to take their licks
01:09:51and they're not obviously good. You got the win.
01:09:54Maybe they can sneak out a couple of this year and just again,
01:09:56just have a bad enough draft pick where they can't get a franchise
01:09:59altering player.
01:10:00If that's what you want, Bobby, then you might just be in luck.
01:10:02Yeah. Take them to the hill is the rallying cry,
01:10:06which is we're in better shape than you guys are.
01:10:09And you like that.
01:10:09So again, I'll you know, and they did.
01:10:12Give me I'll say again, not a male hater, actually.
01:10:16Like I said, I know, I know.
01:10:18I, I, I got to I got to know him a little bit.
01:10:21We worked with him. He was working at NBC.
01:10:23He's a really good, good guy.
01:10:26A really funny, dynamic.
01:10:27He was working as like a business.
01:10:29He was working in like he was like a businessman in his classes.
01:10:32Yeah. He's like taking business class, but he was doing quick slants.
01:10:35And yeah, he's all over the place.
01:10:36And he could hold court.
01:10:38He was a riot. He's really funny, dude.
01:10:40Super engaging.
01:10:41But, you know, you know, he's smart and he's all over the place.
01:10:45He used to call him a mini Belichick.
01:10:47Yeah. So the the some of the things which may or may not have mattered much,
01:10:53you know, were a little head scratching, but some of that was like,
01:10:57you know, the public handling of the quarterback stuff
01:10:59and then just watching them play a little sloppy, seeing penalties and this and that.
01:11:03So there was definitely like the player's manager
01:11:06and the run through the wall stuff really only works if the guy knows what he's doing.
01:11:10And if he doesn't, you're just like, oh, shit.
01:11:12You know, like so unequivocally, I think Mayo showed in week one
01:11:19that they have a plan.
01:11:21The players listen to it.
01:11:22They executed it and they played a professional football game.
01:11:26That's no question about it.
01:11:28So huge win for Mayo.
01:11:30Huge win for the players who had to eat shit all last year.
01:11:33And it had to be a really, really, really miserable experience going out there.
01:11:37Not just losing, but playing for that, you know, playing for joyless Belichick
01:11:42and whatever kind of heavy air was all around Foxborough last year
01:11:45with all the stuff that was going on and Mack being there and this and that.
01:11:49It had to suck, you know, in a hundred different ways.
01:11:53So this was a professional football game.
01:11:56That being said, all it did is distract us from the major
01:11:59storyline of this season, which is, can we get Drake May the frick in the game
01:12:04and start seeing whether or not there is a future?
01:12:07Because I don't give a crap about a 16 to 10 win over the Bengals.
01:12:10It's nice.
01:12:11That's great.
01:12:12Not playing for wins.
01:12:13You're playing to see whether or not they're not going to drink.
01:12:17Did you see Caleb Williams?
01:12:21That's the point, Bobby.
01:12:24Rookies are supposed to be bad.
01:12:27Caleb Williams is Caleb Williams career over because he had a bad game
01:12:31because that's what we're talking about with Drake May, that the helicopter
01:12:35parenting going on around Drake May is if he goes out and struggles
01:12:39and the old line is bad and he can't read the defense, he'll be broken forever.
01:12:44That's not how it works.
01:12:46Weak people are broken.
01:12:48Strong people who were told Drake May is battle through it and take their lumps.
01:12:52Peyton Manning through twenty eight friggin interceptions his rookie year.
01:12:56There you're supposed to suck as a rookie.
01:12:58I disagree with you on this more.
01:13:01CJ Stroud goes out.
01:13:02He's like the first guy ever who like breaks the mold
01:13:05and everyone thinks that's what rookies do.
01:13:06No, what Caleb Williams did is what rookies do.
01:13:09They flail around and they don't have a clue what they're doing.
01:13:12They can't read defenses and everything's really fast and they get sped up
01:13:16and then eventually they get better.
01:13:18But you just got to get him in the game at some point
01:13:22because 120 yards passing my man is not getting it done.
01:13:25So well, that's what I'm saying.
01:13:27Drake May could run could run week one offense.
01:13:30It was very, very simple.
01:13:32But the culture win is good.
01:13:35You didn't want it is bad if May goes out there.
01:13:39And it's hopeless in person.
01:13:41But I don't think it will be.
01:13:42I actually think May is going to do things for you.
01:13:45That percent is absolutely physically not capable of doing.
01:13:49And so I think he'll push that ball downfield a little bit.
01:13:52He'll be able to take advantage of some things that he can't.
01:13:55He'll scramble his way out of out of trouble.
01:13:59And when he can't see stuff or he does something stupid,
01:14:02he can make off platform throws in a way.
01:14:04So you get a little Wild West with some shit and you make stuff happen.
01:14:08And that's what rookies often do.
01:14:10So that's fine.
01:14:12But it's like, let's get there sooner than later.
01:14:14That's all I want.
01:14:15I'm sorry.
01:14:16Let's let's get the man sooner than later, too, because I'll say this.
01:14:22They're going to ride.
01:14:22They're going to ride with
01:14:25for a set right now.
01:14:28That was my biggest fear, is that they're going to reset.
01:14:30You can tell that they're rallying behind reset.
01:14:33You can tell that members have a good relationship.
01:14:36And to this come to the to that comment.
01:14:41It's good for the culture right now to keep resetting in there,
01:14:43because there's no animosity, there's there's no drama when you're
01:14:48when your rookie quarterback is watching on the sidelines, because historically.
01:14:53And again, I know like the the higher up you get picked,
01:14:56the more the less likely you are to ride the bench all year.
01:14:59But typically, rookies do watch on the sidelines more often than not.
01:15:02And so, yeah, if preset sucked and they were losing games,
01:15:06they start the season on five makes all the sense in the world.
01:15:09Say, all right, you know what?
01:15:10Season's toast.
01:15:11We got to we got to change the locker room.
01:15:12You know, no one likes losing.
01:15:14But if they can go to a couple of wins and if the guys like playing behind
01:15:19preset.
01:15:22I think for the culture, it makes more sense to keep them in the game.
01:15:26Get me as reps wherever you can.
01:15:27And at some point during the season.
01:15:29Yes, I think you will turn it up, turn it over to me.
01:15:32But if the Patriots hang around, it's probably going to be
01:15:35one of the situations where it's like once they're eliminated
01:15:37from contention type deal, they might do it.
01:15:40And that's how they can justify it and things like that.
01:15:41But I think they want to ride.
01:15:44They want to ride with preset.
01:15:45The guys on the offense at least seem to be cool with him.
01:15:49And just watching the press conferences, you can actually see.
01:15:54A happier locker room.
01:15:56And I know it's right.
01:15:57They needed it. It was good for them.
01:15:59I was the other half.
01:16:00Yeah, I don't care.
01:16:01Meaning like only if if you're a Patriots fan, only one thing matters.
01:16:06Can Drake may play?
01:16:07Is Drake may your franchise quarterback?
01:16:09Nothing else matters.
01:16:11That's what you have to discern at some point.
01:16:13You may not actually get that full answer here.
01:16:16I mean, you don't want to be in Daniel Jones land where you're like,
01:16:18I don't think he's the guy, but let's give him another year.
01:16:21You want to see that promise and you want to see him get out there
01:16:23and you want to see him make his mistakes.
01:16:25And I don't give a crap about wins and losses.
01:16:27But also, yeah, you don't want it to be a total freaking shit show.
01:16:30But I'm not worried about the things people are supposedly worried about,
01:16:33which is it's going to break his brain.
01:16:35They've made it clear that one of the reasons they drafted him
01:16:37is exactly because he's not that kind of guy.
01:16:40He takes his mistakes. He learns from them.
01:16:42He's tough.
01:16:43He just bounces back and he does his thing.
01:16:45So I don't think that that's a concern.
01:16:46And I don't think the offensive line is going to look.
01:16:50The offensive line is not good, but I don't think he's going to get killed
01:16:54any worse than a lot of other rookie quarterbacks who are, you know,
01:16:57who are athletic behind not great offensive lines as well.
01:17:00And there's there's a few out there, too.
01:17:02So it's just it's how it's life of a rookie quarterback.
01:17:06You usually play them.
01:17:08You don't sit them out to try to win games.
01:17:11You're you're trying to get them acclimated.
01:17:14I want to see it happen sooner than later.
01:17:15But again, I agree on the good wing when I agree on the culture thing.
01:17:19I think it'll turn really fast.
01:17:21Yeah, you can't be like a Browns organization for like five years
01:17:26where you just you don't want to you don't want to be stuck there.
01:17:28You want to push it too far.
01:17:29But anyway, that's it for that.
01:17:32And as we said, it's a Celtics show.
01:17:35We went a little long on our past minute, but we got a game this weekend.
01:17:39Make sure you check it out.
01:17:40Taylor, Kyle's my Catholic and the entire crew will be there for the Patriots.
01:17:44Happy for those guys.
01:17:46Yeah. Better for Taylor.

01:18:52Right, Jimmy?
01:18:53We still have the code ready.
01:18:54It is actually technically summer.
01:18:55It's not, it doesn't feel like it is technically summer.
01:18:59We got some stuff that we're going to be cooking up.
01:19:00It's been a quiet off seasons for the merch store, but we're
01:19:02going to be ramping things up.
01:19:03Basketball's right around the corner.
01:19:05We're still looking for a Patriots item.
01:19:08So if you guys have any ideas out there, hit me up.
01:19:12We're looking at a Patriots item, like a shirt of some kind to the store.
01:19:16Get creative though.
01:19:17You can do a little Mayo thing.
01:19:19You can do a Mayo thing.
01:19:20So you got to be excited until May plays.
01:19:23That's what you're excited about.
01:19:25I just don't know.
01:19:26May watch, May watch Jimmy.
01:19:28It's gotta be May type thing.
01:19:29Do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do.
01:19:31Yeah.
01:19:32May watch.
01:19:32May watch, I got you.
01:19:33Yeah.
01:19:34You got it?
01:19:34I'm not sure.
01:19:35Uh, what would put for, can we put a lifeguard on there?
01:19:39I don't know.
01:19:39We'll see.
01:19:40But anyway, check out the merch store.
01:19:41There's a Jimmy's always got something cooking.
01:19:43Bobby's Bobby's wheels are spinning as well.
01:19:45We'll have some good stuff heading into the season.
01:19:47But again, thank you guys for hanging out.
01:19:49We do appreciate it as always a sleepy off season night here, but
01:19:54things are going to ramp up fast.
01:19:56And we're sending Bobby to Abu Dhabi.
01:19:58We're thinking about it.
01:20:00Really?
01:20:01Here we are.
01:20:01I need Abu Dhabi, Bobby.
01:20:04It's the, that's new t-shirt right there.
01:20:07I need it.
01:20:08Like I need air to breathe.
01:20:10It would Abu Dhabi, Bobby.
01:20:12We need that so bad.
01:20:14Are you going to, and he's got to be decked out.
01:20:16He's got to go the whole nine yards when he's there.
01:20:18Yeah.
01:20:18I'll have to do some research.
01:20:19I don't know what, what you wear at Abu Dhabi, but, Oh, you're going to find out.
01:20:24And you can't do anything wrong there.
01:20:25If you do anything wrong there, like you're, you're, you're in big trouble.
01:20:29Yeah.
01:20:29Big trouble.
01:20:30They're going to, they're going to leave the drugs in the States is
01:20:33what I'm trying to say, Bobby.
01:20:35Yeah, Bobby.
01:20:37Anyway, Bobby, Bobby, Bobby, Bobby.
01:20:40I love it.
01:20:42That's great.
01:20:42Anyway, we'll see you guys later.
01:20:44Thank you for hanging out.
01:20:45Jimmy Toscano, John Zanis, Bobby Manning.
01:20:49Uh, peace.
01:20:49We'll talk to you guys later.
01:20:53No, he doesn't.
01:20:54You said he was going to work on an outro.
01:20:56He had a phenomenal game.
01:20:58Phenomenal.
01:21:01Porfrit's out.
01:21:02I don't know.
01:21:02I think it's an option.
01:21:07That did not sound like a chair.
01:21:08It was a freaking chair.
01:21:10It does sound like a chair.
