00:00Keep listening to Mix 94.7 as we broadcast from the Live Graystar ATX.com Lounge at ACL Music Fest.
00:08It's Mix 94.7, Sean Mack broadcasting live from the Live Graystar ATX.com Lounge, final day of ACL with Daniel Sieve. How are you?
00:16I'm good. How are you?
00:17Good. How are you holding up in this heat? I know we were just talking about this. You were on stage earlier and melted, I'm sure.
00:23Yeah, I mean, I'm from L.A. basically. I'm from Washington, Vancouver, Washington, but I've lived in L.A. for like six years, so it feels kind of the same.
00:30I don't know if this is true. Like, is it true that your blood thins when you live in a hotter place after a while?
00:35I could see that.
00:36And you just like get used to it? I don't know if that's just like an urban legend.
00:38A little terrifying, but you could be onto something there.
00:41All right, we'll research it later.
00:42The vibes here are pretty immaculate compared to L.A. Like, the people here rock, so I prefer it here.
00:49Yeah, which is weird because half of California has moved here.
00:52Yeah, that makes sense. I might be part of that.
00:55We got the good half.
00:56I was on Zillow yesterday.
00:57Okay, just checking around. Is this a possibility? Are you like, maybe this feels right?
01:02I'm like so serious. I really like it. I went to the Barton Springs pool yesterday and Leon Bridges was playing in the background and I was like, why am I not living here?
01:1468 degrees, that water.
01:16Yeah, it's like a natural cold plunge.
01:19Exactly.
01:20But it was nice.
01:21Yeah, perfect. You were on stage, of course, on the MX stage.
01:24Yes, sir.
01:25I saw you mentioned, which is true, you did open for Chapel Rowan today.
01:29I like to, that's what I'm going to tell my girlfriend to flex for bragging rights.
01:34Exactly.
01:35There's, you know, a couple of people after me and then her, but like, I basically, it was opener to the opener.
01:40Exactly. Yeah, you warmed the stage up.
01:42That's what I was saying.
01:43Yeah. I feel like your audience and her audience are probably kind of similar.
01:48I bet there were a lot of people there that were like, oh, you know, people singing your songs.
01:52I take that as a huge compliment because her crowd and just like the world she's building is so cool.
01:59Just that judgment free zone. People obviously expressing themselves like no other.
02:04Like, it's so cool to watch. So if I'm even in the two percentile of the family, I'll take it. I'll take it.
02:11Have you ever seen that many pink cowboy hats at one of your shows?
02:14No, I was literally going to say pink cowboy hats are whoever is making those in a factory right now is happy.
02:20Making bank.
02:22You're familiar with opening up for big pop acts, of course, Benson Boone this summer, right?
02:27Yes, money boy.
02:28Talk about that experience. Talk about how you guys connected and the friendship you have.
02:32Benson rocks. He is like an alien of a human, just the amount he does in a day.
02:38And like, he is the prime example I've seen of mind over matter. I've never seen anything like it.
02:43Just very like something that seems right out of something like something you shouldn't be able to do.
02:49He looks at it and is like, I could do that with full confidence.
02:52And then just like, does it like it doesn't matter if it's a parkour stunt or like the highest note you've ever heard in your life.
02:59He will do it. First try. It's absurd. It's annoying.
03:04I feel like this guy is so good.
03:06No, he's just he really is like that guy. He really is.
03:09And it's cool for me, too. I obviously come from my band. Why don't we?
03:13And then kind of going on my own solo path, it was like pretty lonely.
03:17And especially the first year was just like so unfamiliar.
03:20I bet. Yeah. And there was something like healing about and just I felt like a kid again going out with him.
03:25And his whole crew is his hometown friends. And so you seem like Entourage the show.
03:30Yeah, of course. Yeah. Felt like we were in an episode every day.
03:33Turtle and drama just kicking it. Yeah, literally.
03:36Yeah. They were just all like turtles. A bunch of turtles.
03:40I feel like it might be your energy that attracts these kind of people because you're getting ready to tour with another one like this.
03:46Yeah. Dean Lewis is very similar to this. We love Dean.
03:49We've done stuff with him for years. Talk about how you guys got on each other's radars.
03:54Well, you know, I a lot of the stuff that's been happening lately has really been falling out of the sky.
04:00Starting with Benson. I was at Coachella just attending for fun with some friends.
04:05And his manager, Jeff, ran by. I thought he was on crack.
04:10Like he ran by and goes, you're opening for Benson and ran away. And I was and I was like, am I on crack?
04:17Did that just happen? And a week later, he called and was like, we're going out next week.
04:22Do you want to come? So that was like, what in the world? Wow.
04:26And then he's just like my best friend now at this point.
04:29And then Dean called while I was out with Benson in Europe and just out of the blue one day got an email from Dean and he was like, would you want to open in Australia?
04:38And we had never met, but I kind of I was hoping to meet him soon through friends like David Kushner.
04:45And they were good friends. I met David and you have to meet Dean. And so it was always like we were trying to meet.
04:51I didn't think that was going to equal me opening. So now I'm just like very grateful.
04:56It's going to be awesome.
04:57These shows, of course, Dean is from Australia. These are going to be like huge shows.
05:01They're going to be some fatties. It's going to be sick.
05:06Before I let you get out of here, you just dropped a new song.
05:08Yeah. Gateway Drug.
05:09Two days ago.
05:10Yes, sir. Thank you.
05:11Congrats on that. Love it. And how's the initial reaction been?
05:15Are you one of those people that when you drop a song, do you like wait for that moment that it goes up on streaming and then you like immediately go look?
05:23I really I used to be like very analytically driven in my band.
05:28I feel like I have this like weird blessing of having like a second go at this, like a little second win being on my own now and getting another shot at it.
05:37And this time I'm really I think there's just so much.
05:41There are some good sides to analytics and you want to keep growing, but there's a lot of crap all out there.
05:46And this time I really am just trying to make it about making music I love for people that enjoy it and trying to keep myself at that core of an idea.
05:57And not it's easier said than done. Like you can't help but look at the numbers.
06:01But I'm just having fun with it this time. Like I'm enjoying it.
06:05Good. What's your plan for the rest of the day? Are you going to see Chapel?
06:08I'm going to run down to Barton Springs pool and jump in.
06:13Can you bring a bucket of the water from Barton Springs pool for all of us?
06:16Spray everyone and then watch Chapel.
06:19Awesome.
06:20Hands down have to do that.
06:21You said earlier on your socials this is the best day of your life and I think you might be right.
06:24Thank you so much.
06:25This might be happening.
06:26You're a part of it now.
06:27I know. Just a small smidgen.
06:29A smidge.
06:30Daniel Seavey, thank you so much for being here.
06:32We appreciate you.
06:33And enjoy Austin. Enjoy Australia.
06:35Will do.
06:36It's going to be awesome.
06:38Sean Mack Mix 74.7. We're back soon.
