00:00what's up guys today we've got the galaxy a54 here and we typically don't
00:05look at mid-range phones but this was very highly requested since I did that
00:11video talking about mid-range phones and yeah so I decided to go ahead and pick
00:16it up so I could sort of demonstrate what you know I was talking about we
00:20haven't looked at a mid-range phone on this channel like a new one in like a
00:24long time maybe like a year so a54 here this phone cost around 400 bucks USB-C
00:33and now you don't get a you don't get any type of a charging brick with the
00:41mid-range phones now so it's kind of the same thing as the flagship phones so I
00:45don't know when they started doing that they probably maybe I remember getting a
00:50brick with my a52 but off rip this feels really good guys this it does not
01:01look cheap at all and from what I see with these specs this is ip67 dust and
01:08water resistant and it's also a glass back on here which is also you know kind
01:13of strange because typically these a series phones like the a53 a52 have
01:18always been plastic so I can tell just off rip that the sides are plastic
01:23definitely but that's pretty cool that you get a glass back it gives it kind of
01:27a more expensive look and feel alright so the a54 has a 6.4 inch display it's a
01:34super amoled display it's 120 Hertz HDR 10 plus and then it is also 403 for the
01:41PPI so it's a pretty good display and I think one of the most impressive things
01:45here is that for a mid-range phone this does have a thousand nits peak
01:49brightness so it's pretty bright outdoors so when I went out to take
01:53photos and stuff like that you really have any issues with the brightness on
01:57here so I think is the display on the same quality as a you know s23 ultra no
02:04I can pretty much kind of tell from the colors and overall just the the panels
02:10quality like it's not bad or anything like that but you can kind of tell a
02:14little bit coming from the you know the more expensive ultra phone but the
02:18display itself is actually pretty good it's fairly colorful like I said the
02:22only thing that I notice is you got a little bit of bezel but that's pretty
02:26much expected from a you know panel like this and also another cool thing is a
02:30completely flat display which a lot of people like so display not bad at all
02:35it's very smooth you know very nice display here alright so this is one of
02:40the main reasons that I like to recommend older flagship phones and that
02:44is for the gaming performance here so for a game like PUBG for the a54 we
02:50can't even we pretty much can't even get a smooth extreme on here it goes all the
02:56way up to balance high which is honestly not that great if I'm like for 400 bucks
03:03you can get a older flagship like you can honestly in the States you get s21
03:07ultra for this price and it's it's definitely it's definitely a little bit
03:13disappointing here now if you're a casual gamer you'll be fine because
03:16you're not playing PUBG competitively but you definitely if you're an actual
03:21phone gamer you definitely want your games to run at 60 frames right so this
03:27has the Exynos 1380 chip on here Mali a g68 GPU what's really cool is that
03:33Samsung you know they did leave in the SD card support this year and this phone
03:37doesn't have a headphone jack I noticed either so they took away the headphone
03:40jack I remember my a52 has a headphone jack but they took that away but you
03:46know just back to the overall performance like I said not really
03:49impressed with gaming performance at all you can definitely get you know much
03:53better settings honestly I would argue the pixel prop the pixel I'm pretty sure
03:59I can play this game at better settings as well too so really not that impressed
04:03with gaming on here just to be straight up now to touch on performance you know
04:08again alright so I do want to talk about the overall just like performance
04:14of the phone here so again we have 128 gigs on this model and 6 gigs of RAM
04:20there is an 8 gigabyte RAM model this is the 6 and yeah so performance to my
04:25surprise it is pretty smooth just doing your normal activities now when I read
04:31the article about this phone lagging and stuff like that I didn't using the phone
04:35I was like well what is he talking about so basically it's like certain little
04:40animation lags right so going into multitasking like this sometimes you'll
04:44see like it's kind of a little bit slow and it's mostly when you have a ton of
04:48applications open and I wouldn't even say I have a ton of stuff open honestly
04:52I don't have a ton of heavy stuff open but yeah so you'll notice that like like
04:57right there you saw it come in and it's kind of like jittery you don't really
05:01find that on you know flagships older flagships even so that's that's pretty
05:07interesting and I would say so I'm pretty sure that's what he's talking
05:10about and also the fingerprint scanner is nowhere near as fast as the old
05:15flagship phones I think this is this can't be a yeah this is not a it feels
05:20like an optical one this is not the ultrasonic at all ultrasonic fingerprint
05:24you can tap and you'll be able to go on your phone so this is nowhere near as
05:28fast so that's one thing I notice and also the animations if you guys can see
05:35it does it's not super smooth I don't know how well that's translated on
05:38camera but it's like it's not like it doesn't feel as smooth it's cuz
05:42unlocking the phone on it like a s10 plus animation wise and smoothness it
05:49just feels smoother but overall the general performance I don't think
05:52anybody would say this phone is slow like you guys can see like it's not like
05:56crazy glitching and lagging and stuff like that it's pretty fast for the most
06:00part here but like I said if you probably throw more applications at it
06:05like it'll probably start to stutter a little bit if you're like a more heavier
06:11user and like I said I'm also another thing with just having a phone like this
06:16it'll kick applications out of the background but overall for speed I was
06:21expecting much worse and this actually it's pretty it's pretty smooth for the
06:25most part the a54 does have stereo speakers on here let's go ahead and
06:29test them out max volume
06:55so that's actually pretty good it's a very nice crisp sound on here and it's
07:00fairly loud even when you cover the bottom speaker which you know can happen
07:04if you're using the phone cover the speaker this speaker does put out a
07:08pretty good amount of sound so I think the stereo speakers actually pretty good
07:13and also a good amount of bass so I'm pretty impressed with that now as far as
07:18your features in here in one UI you basically have you know a lot of stuff
07:24you would find on the flagship phones but the essentials are going to be
07:27missing like Samsung desktop support is going to be gone here but secure folders
07:31and Adobe Atmos is here as well too so you know you also have the edge panel
07:37on here so you're not missing too much you're just missing those two things
07:40pretty much. Alright so let's talk about the cameras here so I really like the
07:45camera setup as well too it looks like the s23 but the pictures are pretty good
07:50so you have a 50 megapixel standard so you get a pretty good amount of detail
07:54when you crop or zoom in you also have a 12 megapixel ultra-wide a 5 megapixel
07:59macro camera it can only shoot in 4k 30 so there's no 4k 60 option has a 32
08:04megapixel selfie cam that also shoots in 4k 30 and the image quality is pretty
08:10good on here I was actually pretty impressed with the overall image quality
08:14very consistent colors on here I really like the selfie cam I thought it did a
08:19pretty decent job of my skin tone also yeah it was kind of rainy today so it
08:25wasn't super bright but I thought dynamic range is pretty good on here the
08:29ultra-wide is pretty decent on here as well too now the ultra-wide can get a
08:33little bit soft in like a low-light situations but I think it's still decent
08:38for this price but the main camera on here is pretty sharp it looks pretty
08:43good guys even the taking photos in 2x and stuff like that 2x 3x is still
08:48pretty good now of course you know with the more expensive phones you get better
08:51zoom quality but I think for most people when you buy a mid-range phone you're
08:55typically just doing a point-and-shoot and it's gonna come out pretty nice also

09:15looks pretty good you know what you guys think now just using the phone today
09:34and just from what I've seen online the battery life is pretty good on this
09:39phone it's actually very very good I might do a battery drain test for you
09:42guys but it's a 5,000 milliamp battery now it does charge somewhat kind of slow
09:48at 25 watts and one of the things that you're gonna be missing with a flagship
09:54or older flagship is there is no type of wireless charging reverse wireless
09:59charging on here so yeah so that's pretty much it for this video it's
10:05actually a pretty decent phone for the price do I think it's better than an
10:09older flagship not really I think I think the one advantage it might have is
10:14that the battery life is pretty good on here but it seems like everything else
