00:00I welcome you to this gathering.
00:28Today, the person I have invited is not in need of any introduction.
00:34He is Mr. Kibla Syed Faraz Ahmed Shah, who is one of those people who are a source of mercy for all of us.
00:42You are a highly educated professional.
00:45You have served in various government agencies.
00:50You are also interested in Islamic and spiritual teachings.
00:54In this regard, 10 books of Mr. Shah have been published, i.e. Kaifakeer, Fakirang, Fakirnagri, etc.
01:02You can read and listen to all these books for free on Mr. Shah's official website www.kaifakeer.org
01:12I repeat again, www.kaifakeer.org
01:16So, Mr. Shah, if you permit, we will start with the questions.
01:22First of all, I would like to ask you a few questions.
01:36Is self-discourse and self-examination the key to success in Sufism?
01:43Is self-discourse and self-examination the key to success in Sufism?
01:50In order to succeed in any field, one has to follow the rules of the game.
02:09Sufism is not an exception.
02:13It also has its own rules of the game.
02:17If we follow these rules, we will be able to reach God's nearness very quickly.
02:27For a Fakir, self-discourse is the most important thing.
02:34Every moment, he keeps an eye on himself to ensure that he does not do anything that goes against the standards of the Quran and Sunnah.
02:50He follows the standards set by the Quran and Sunnah.
02:59The standards set by the Quran and Sunnah are not for Sufism.
03:05In fact, they are the standards for becoming a good Muslim.
03:11We have to clear a concept in our minds that a Fakir is not someone who looks different from others.
03:30In fact, out of respect, we say that a Fakir is someone who tries to live his life according to the Quran and Sunnah.
03:48When a person lives his life according to the standards set by the Quran and Sunnah,
03:58he receives blessings from God.
04:04We do not understand these blessings.
04:13We do not think that a Fakir has any supernatural powers.
04:21A Fakir is a human being.
04:24I was saying that every field has its own rules of the game.
04:29A person who tries to live his life according to the standards set by God,
04:36he always commits suicide.
04:40Catharsis is a different thing from suicide.
04:48This is very important for every person.
04:52Especially a Fakir who is trying his best,
04:57he needs catharsis but he does not talk to anyone else.
05:05In fact, he spends his time with himself.
05:11This is very important for a person to get complete solitude in his life.
05:24I would like to call self-talk catharsis instead of self-talk.
05:35A person does his own catharsis and we call it self-talk.
05:43But in reality, he is doing his own catharsis.
05:47He is spending time with himself.
05:51When a person is spending time with himself,
05:55he gets involved in a process of deep contemplation
06:01which helps him to move forward.
06:05In Sufism, you cannot move forward without self-talk.
06:11You have to keep an eye on yourself
06:16so that you do not do something that goes against the standards of the Quran and Sunnah.
06:27You have to reach your destination through self-talk.
06:33Self-talk catharsis should be involved in deep contemplation.
06:40We use different methods to remove the dust that is accumulated inside a person.
06:52We speak out our mind and we speak out our heart.
07:04A Fakir does not do this.
07:07A Fakir does not say that he is in a difficult situation.
07:17A Fakir says that he is complaining about Allah.
07:22Because everything is from Allah.
07:25If I say that I am in a difficult situation,
07:30I am saying that I am complaining about Allah.
07:34I have mentioned this a couple of times before.
07:38This has been mentioned in books as well.
07:42Once I left my office and went to my Spiritual Guide.
07:47His room was 5.5 feet by 3.5 feet.
07:53It was difficult for four people to sit inside.
07:57There was no ventilation or window.
08:03It was very hot during monsoon season.
08:10I left my office.
08:13I had no control over myself.
08:18I said to my Spiritual Guide,
08:22that it is very hot today.
08:25I was shocked to hear this.
08:34I did not understand why he was so angry.
08:39Who gave you the right to raise your finger on your master?
08:45He is the master.
08:47He can raise his finger on anyone.
08:50Who are you to raise your finger on him?
08:53This was a very big lesson.
08:56Thank God that this incident happened in 1978.
09:01After that, this incident never came up again.
09:05To talk about the intensity of the monsoon season,
09:10and to say that the monsoon season is very intense,
09:15in my opinion, this was not the case at that time.
09:20In fact, when people used to go to the UK very rarely,
09:27there was a businessman who had to go to the UK for a meeting.
09:33One of his colleagues, who was a businessman like him,
09:39told him that he had a meeting in the UK.
09:44When he met the British, he asked him,
09:47what do you care about?
09:49He said, nothing.
09:51He said, say hello.
09:54And start the conversation in an innocent manner.
09:59Give an innocent introduction.
10:02When he went to the UK, it was winter.
10:05In those days, the monsoon season lasted for 6-7 months.
10:12There was a slight drizzle.
10:15It was raining.
10:17When he went to the meeting, he said hello to everyone.
10:23He said, it's a wonderful weather outside.
10:27It's raining.
10:29The foreigner was very surprised to see this.
10:32But the conversation continued.
10:34The next day, he went there again.
10:36It was raining again.
10:38He said again, it's raining.
10:42It's very good weather outside.
10:46On the third day, the British replied,
10:49yes, only ducks can like this weather.
10:54The thing is,
10:56this is not allowed in Sufism.
11:00It is possible to be self-catharsis.
11:07It is a way to steam off.
11:10It is very important for a person to steam off.
11:15There is another way.
11:18Most of the people here are married.
11:23Alhamdulillah, they get beaten up by their wives.
11:28When they get beaten up,
11:31they can't open their mouth in front of their wives.
11:34They lock themselves in a room,
11:36stand in front of a mirror and say,
11:38I have done my self-catharsis.
11:40This is another method.
11:43Remember this in Sufism.
11:46Self-catharsis and self-catharsis.
11:50Is this the essence of Sufism?
11:54That when we face a problem,
11:57we go to the elders to pray.
12:00And solve our problem.
12:02Or is Sufism that we also get blessings?
12:06We should pray for this and also try.
12:09Mr. Rauf, you may be disappointed with my answer.
12:15Sufism does not mean this at all.
12:19The objective of Sufism is only one thing.
12:26That I should get the friendship of God.
12:29That I should attain the nearness of God.
12:32Whatever you get from God while walking on that path,
12:36these are His blessings.
12:38But for any Fakir,
12:41these blessings are of no importance at all.
12:46In fact, a Fakir is afraid of them.
12:49That they are a great distraction in life.
12:52They distract a person from his path.
12:55And the right teacher,
13:00the right teacher,
13:02the right guide,
13:04she tells her students with great insistence,
13:11Keep your outward appearance in such a way
13:15that people do not get to know about your inner self.
13:19This happens because
13:22when a person arises among people
13:25and the people, the creation of God,
13:27comes to know that this is the mosque of Dawah,
13:31or that God has blessed it,
13:34that it has been blessed,
13:36then people always stay away from it.
13:39This causes two harms.
13:42One is that it is unlawful to worship it.
13:45And secondly,
13:47when people bow down and greet it,
13:50its inner self begins to blossom.
13:53And that is the poison for any Fakir.
13:59Its inner self begins to blossom.
14:02That is why a Fakir stays away from these things.
14:06All the great saints who have passed away,
14:09if we read their own written books,
14:12then we realize a strange thing.
14:17That these great saints
14:20did not mention any bad deeds in their written books.
14:25In fact, they have only advised people to be righteous.
14:35They did not mention their own bad deeds.
14:39And I don't think this is the right attitude.
14:45When I was meeting my spiritual guide in the late 70s,
14:52I faced some difficulties.
14:57I told my spiritual guide,
15:00that this is a problem,
15:02please pray for it.
15:04He looked at me and did not respond.
15:08The matter was over.
15:11After a while, I again asked for a prayer.
15:16The spiritual guide also had some spiritual scholars,
15:22who wanted to further develop themselves.
15:26When we left the spiritual guide's gathering,
15:30I was sitting in the car.
15:32There was a spiritual guide among them.
15:35He had a very bright face,
15:38and was a very handsome man.
15:42He whispered in my ear,
15:46that I would like to make a request to you,
15:50please pray for me.
15:57I don't know what happened,
16:00but I said against my habit,
16:04that I will not say it again.
16:08Time passed,
16:11and the time of difficulties came.
16:15But,
16:17after that,
16:19I never mentioned the worldly problems to the spiritual guide.
16:25After a long time,
16:27I found out the wisdom behind it,
16:31that I should not ask the spiritual guide for a prayer.
16:35Because,
16:37the process of acquiring knowledge stops.
16:41I used to meet my spiritual guide,
16:44only for the sake of acquiring knowledge.
16:47If I was involved in worldly prayers,
16:50then it would have stopped.
16:52Because, when you meet a spiritual guide,
16:55who is talking about knowledge,
16:57he is at a very high level,
16:59in terms of mind.
17:01When we talk about worldly prayers,
17:05he has to come down to the level of worldly prayers,
17:10which he will not like.
17:13And then whatever he says,
17:15his level will not be at the same level,
17:18as the spiritual guide,
17:20who is talking to you about knowledge.
17:23So, there is a loss in that.
17:25Worldly things come and go.
17:27Time comes and goes.
17:30And,
17:32there was a person,
17:34when I used to go to the spiritual guide,
17:37almost daily,
17:39he used to also come.
17:41So,
17:42till that time,
17:44it had been a long time,
17:46since I had gone to my spiritual guide.
17:49So, I was able to recognize,
17:51the temperament of my spiritual guide.
17:54He came and said,
17:56Please pray for me,
17:58I am going through a difficult time.
18:01So, I also gave him a sign,
18:03not to say anything.
18:05So,
18:06there was a bit of indifference on his face,
18:09which only I could recognize.
18:12He did not respond.
18:14After a while,
18:15he again asked the same question,
18:17that I am giving you a sign,
18:19not to say anything.
18:21So, he started getting angry.
18:23He did not respond.
18:26Despite my refusal,
18:28he said the same thing,
18:30for the third time.
18:32So,
18:33the spiritual guide,
18:35looked at him,
18:36in a very harsh tone,
18:38and said,
18:39Why man,
18:40you were there to spend a good time,
18:42and someone else will spend a bad time,
18:44instead of you.
18:46Now,
18:47this was,
18:48a matter of great difficulty.
18:51We spend a good time,
18:54you are good people,
18:56you are good people,
18:57you are thankful to Allah,
18:59for spending a good time.
19:01So, when you have spent a good time,
19:03then,
19:04difficulties should also,
19:06spend the same happiness.
19:08Remember,
19:10when he is in difficulty,
19:12he will express himself in comfort.
19:15When he is hungry,
19:17he will express himself full.
19:20When he is sick,
19:22he will express himself fully.
19:26This,
19:27is a great form of gratitude.
19:30That,
19:31in front of Allah,
19:33he does not complain.
19:35He never says,
19:36I am sick.
19:38I have not been given food.
19:40He never says,
19:42I am in difficulty.
19:44He will meet you with a smile.
19:46He will not let you know,
19:48what is his condition.
19:50So,
19:51to go to a Fakir,
19:53there is only one benefit.
19:55That,
19:56the thing that has made him a Fakir,
19:58he should take it from him.
20:00And that is knowledge.
20:02Learn knowledge from him,
20:03this is the benefit.
20:05Ask from Allah,
20:06it is a Sunnah,
20:07to say a prayer.
20:09But,
20:11we ask for a prayer,
20:13Allah accepts it.
20:15He listens to everyone.
20:17You are good people,
20:18he listens to sinners like me.
20:22So, you are good people.
20:24Ask for a prayer,
20:25go to a Fakir,
20:27and try to take that thing,
20:29which has brought him closer to Allah.
20:32If you keep asking for a prayer,
20:34at the same time,
20:35you will become monotonous.
20:37Is it that,
20:38you should pray at any time?
20:40It is a matter of your own belief.
20:44For me,
20:46it is that,
20:47my Lord,
20:48does not sleep,
20:49nor does He snore.
20:51My Lord is present everywhere.
20:54So,
20:55at any time,
20:57I can knock on the door,
20:59and call for a prayer.
21:01I can ask for a prayer,
21:03and He grants it.
21:05Ok,
21:06tell me,
21:07is it possible,
21:08that a person,
21:09at the beginning of his spiritual journey,
21:11sees a glimpse of the Divine.
21:13So that,
21:14the rest of the spiritual journey,
21:16can be completed with firm steps.
21:19We,
21:20have a servant at home.
21:24It does not happen,
21:25that on the first day,
21:26I allow him to enter my bedroom.
21:30Or,
21:32the safe which is kept in my bedroom,
21:34I do not give him the key on the first day.
21:39That journey,
21:40so far,
21:41this journey of trust,
21:43he will complete.
21:45That,
21:46first,
21:47where there is a place for him to sit,
21:49there,
21:50it will be said,
21:51do this,
21:52do that.
21:53Gradually,
21:54if that trust,
21:56is being proved,
21:58then gradually,
21:59he will come inside the house.
22:00Then,
22:01from there,
22:02to the bedroom,
22:03and then,
22:04the safe which is kept in my room,
22:06the key will be given to him.
22:08This is the last stage.
22:10So,
22:11to see a glimpse of the factory of nature,
22:16this is possible only when,
22:18the Lord brings man closer to Him.
22:20Then,
22:21one trusts Him.
22:22That is why,
22:23a fakir,
22:24will never be told,
22:25that,
22:26I,
22:28went to the factory of nature,
22:30and saw this,
22:31and saw that.
22:32He does not talk about this.
22:33Otherwise,
22:34there is a stage of knowledge,
22:36that,
22:37to inspire others,
22:38he says a few things.
22:40But,
22:41he will never come to these things,
22:43that,
22:44I,
22:45went to this place,
22:46and saw this,
22:47and saw that.
22:48He does not tell this to anyone.
22:50This is because,
22:52he will lose his trust in the Lord.
22:55That,
22:56these are the things,
22:57which the Lord does not reveal to us.
23:00So,
23:01when he comes to say this,
23:03then,
23:04he loses it.
23:06In this journey,
23:07as Sufis say,
23:08there are some places,
23:10where there is a lot of wandering.
23:13So,
23:14how does he counter this wandering,
23:16and how does he see,
23:17that here,
23:18I am walking in the right direction,
23:20or not.
23:22It is a very old story.
23:24I,
23:25had gone to Karachi,
23:26for some government work.
23:28After completing that work,
23:31I went to the hotel room at night,
23:34and turned on the TV.
23:36In that,
23:37our Ashfaq sahib,
23:39was sitting in the program,
23:41and was saying,
23:43I don't know what that program was,
23:45but the place I saw,
23:47I am quoting only that much.
23:50He was saying,
23:51that we had an aunt,
23:54who,
23:56never said anything bad to anyone.
23:59So,
24:00we were 5th or 6th grade students.
24:03We were surprised,
24:05that our aunt,
24:06never said anything bad to anyone.
24:09So,
24:10everyday,
24:11we used to plan,
24:12and try,
24:13that today,
24:14aunt should say something bad to someone.
24:16Today, aunt should say something bad to someone.
24:18But,
24:19she used to say,
24:20only good things,
24:21in response to everything.
24:23So, one day,
24:24we were coming from school,
24:25along with Nehar,
24:26to Pagdandi.
24:27So,
24:28one of our cousins said,
24:29that today,
24:30aunt,
24:31will say something bad,
24:32in response to her words.
24:36So, we asked her,
24:37how?
24:38She said,
24:39let me tell you,
24:40wait.
24:41So,
24:42we went home,
24:43had food,
24:44and took a bath.
24:48In the evening,
24:49we left,
24:50and went straight to aunt's house.
24:52So,
24:53our cousin,
24:54told aunt,
24:55that aunt,
24:56this devil,
24:58is very bad,
24:59and stops us,
25:00from doing good.
25:01So,
25:02we were very surprised,
25:03when aunt replied,
25:04that,
25:05no,
25:06child,
25:07don't say anything bad to him.
25:08He is very good,
25:09that he does his duty,
25:10with great diligence.
25:15So,
25:16the thing is,
25:17that he is a devil,
25:18and he has to do his duty,
25:19with great diligence.
25:20But,
25:21God has given us,
25:22the ability,
25:23that we should not,
25:24be misled by him.
25:26And,
25:27there are a hundred types,
25:28of people,
25:29that,
25:30have a form.
25:31Sometimes,
25:32a person,
25:33will start,
25:34kissing your hand,
25:35because,
25:36the soul,
25:37is very happy,
25:38because,
25:39it is nurtured.
25:40But,
25:41in reality,
25:42a person,
25:43is coming down,
25:44because,
25:45then,
25:46he starts,
25:47getting in control,
25:48of his soul.
25:49He touches his knees,
25:50he touches his feet.
25:52So,
25:53it is better,
25:54that a person,
25:55avoids these things.
25:57Then,
26:00a weak person,
26:01like me,
26:03if Allah,
26:04gives him,
26:05a reward,
26:07then he says,
26:08look,
26:09I just thought,
26:10that Allah,
26:11has given me this.
26:12Now,
26:13he is going,
26:14into arrogance.
26:15He will lose,
26:16that knowledge.
26:17Contrary to this,
26:19Hazrat Bayazid Bastami,
26:20may Allah have mercy on him,
26:21is a person,
26:23about whom,
26:24Hazrat Junaid Baghdadi,
26:25may Allah have mercy on him,
26:26had said,
26:27that,
26:28Bayazid's,
26:29status,
26:30among the saints,
26:31is that,
26:32which is like,
26:33a thorn in a finger.
26:37His statement,
26:38is completely,
26:39contrary to this.
26:40Once,
26:41he was travelling,
26:42with his disciples,
26:43in the jungle.
26:44And,
26:45his disciples,
26:46were only,
26:47learned people.
26:48His words,
26:49could not be understood,
26:50by a common man.
26:51So,
26:52all of them,
26:53were travelling.
26:54So,
26:55Hazrat Bayazid Bastami,
26:56said,
26:57that,
26:58today,
26:59I feel like,
27:00eating,
27:01deer meat,
27:02kebabs.
27:03His disciples,
27:04were worried,
27:05that,
27:06it is the order,
27:07of the teacher,
27:08how to,
27:09fulfill it.
27:10So,
27:11there is no deer meat,
27:12to be eaten,
27:13as kebabs.
27:14So,
27:15he remained silent.
27:16At night,
27:17the meal,
27:18which he served,
27:19in a short while,
27:20he saw,
27:21from the east,
27:22a deer,
27:23came running,
27:24and,
27:25sat near,
27:26his disciples.
27:27The deer,
27:28did not run away,
27:29but,
27:30slaughtered,
27:31and,
27:32made kebabs,
27:33and,
27:34presented them,
27:35to his teacher.
27:36So,
27:37he asked,
27:38where did it come from?
27:39He said,
27:40this deer,
27:41came to us,
27:42and,
27:43sat near us,
27:44and,
27:45we caught it,
27:46and,
27:47slaughtered it,
27:48and,
27:49we are feeding you,
27:50its kebabs.
27:51So,
27:52he cried out,
27:53that people,
27:54today,
27:55I have been rejected.
27:56So,
27:57he repeated this sentence,
27:58three times.
27:59So,
28:00the disciples asked,
28:01Huzoor,
28:02what are you saying?
28:03He said,
28:04when,
28:05the Lord,
28:06starts fulfilling,
28:07the desires of,
28:08a person's,
28:09self,
28:10then,
28:11it is as if,
28:12he has become,
28:13distant from the Lord.
28:14So,
28:15rejection,
28:16means,
28:17being distant.
28:18But,
28:19contrary to this,
28:20the Lord,
28:21immediately,
28:22gave it to me.
28:23This,
28:24is also,
28:25a form of,
28:26the misguidance,
28:27of the devil.
28:28So,
28:29one should stay,
28:30distant from this,
28:31from everything,
28:32which,
28:33makes one think,
28:34that,
28:35I have gone near,
28:36to the Lord,
28:37I have grown up.
28:38The more,
28:39a person makes himself believe,
28:40that,
28:41I am nowhere,
28:42I am nothing,
28:43the more,
28:44he will go ahead.
28:45And,
28:46this is the same,
28:47in worldly knowledge,
28:48that,
28:49the more,
28:50a person considers himself,
28:51small,
28:52the more,
28:53he goes towards,
28:54greatness.
28:55Is there,
28:56a limit to this?
28:57For example,
28:58if a person,
28:59says that,
29:00this is the goal,
29:01I have completed this,
29:02there is no next goal,
29:03after this.
29:04Knowledge,
29:05is a sea,
29:06which,
29:07has no other shore.
29:08The more,
29:09one dives,
29:10into knowledge,
29:11a person,
29:12realizes,
29:13his own,
29:14worthiness,
29:15that,
29:16knowledge,
29:17is,
29:18very vast,
29:19and,
29:20I am,
29:21even,
29:22a tiny particle,
29:23in it.
29:24There is,
29:25a vast desert,
29:26a vast desert,
29:27in which,
29:28sand,
29:29is sand,
29:30and,
29:31I am,
29:32a tiny particle,
29:33of that sand,
29:34and,
29:35my worthiness,
29:36is nothing,
29:37compared to that desert.
29:38As long as,
29:39this thought remains,
29:40genuinely,
29:41even,
29:42I say this,
29:43but,
29:44in my heart,
29:45apart from,
29:46arrogance,
29:47as long as,
29:48in my heart,
29:49I don't understand,
29:50whatever,
29:51a person says,
29:52in my heart,
29:53I understand,
29:54that,
29:55my worthiness,
29:56is nothing,
29:57compared to that desert.
29:58Then,
29:59I will move forward,
30:00otherwise,
30:01I will stop.
30:02I will stop,
30:03at one place,
30:04but,
30:05I will start,
30:06a reversal.
30:07Is,
30:08love,
30:09also,
30:10a dimension?
30:11Does,
30:12love,
30:13free us,
30:14from time,
30:15and space?
30:16Sir,
30:17this,
30:18is not a dimension.
30:19This,
30:20in itself,
30:21is a phenomenon.
30:25We,
30:26have,
30:27three possible,
30:28means,
30:29to reach,
30:30to God.
30:31Follow,
30:32one of them.
30:33It is,
30:34intellect.
30:35We,
30:36follow that,
30:37through intellect,
30:38we try,
30:39to reach,
30:40to God.
30:41After,
30:42some distance,
30:43our intellect,
30:44will answer.
30:45And,
30:46as we say,
30:47the world,
30:48we are living in,
30:49is,
30:50the world of,
30:51the world of,
30:52the world of,
30:53the world of,
30:54the world of,
30:55the world of,
