US election 2024: buildings boarded up around Capitol in anticipation of election unrest

'I just wish we could all be a little bit more calm about the situation'.

00:00We're here in Washington DC where a number of stores have already boarded up their windows in preparation of for election day

00:07This one right beside me has boarded up all of its windows and parts of its entrance

00:11But it's not an uncommon sight here in the city. We're right here just across the road from where a lot of historic

00:19Protests have happened. So if anything is going to be taking place

00:21It's going to be taking place here in Washington. Just a couple of minutes walk away from the White House

00:30I'm on pins and needles right about now

00:31You know

00:32You see all the polls and some of the polls that say Harris is winning some of them say Trump are winning and some of them say

00:38It's even and I'm thinking in my head. It's gonna be like when

00:42Gore and Bush that election where it went almost a week before we found out who was going to win

00:46But I'm just hoping this would be a little different and I'm hoping it'd be a little calmer

00:50But with these boarded up walls and windows and everything

00:53I'm not really sure and you know just from the news you've been hearing like bouts of violence

00:59People yelling in coffee shops

01:01People just getting into it, but I just look at it as whoever wins

01:04I'm not going to result to violence and I'm not going to disrespect you for whoever you voted for

01:08I'm still gonna be your friend and treat you just like a

01:12Human, but I just wish that we all could just be a little more calm about the whole situation
