00:00There's a couple things in that game that were almost like from a screenplay.
00:07Like you couldn't script it.
00:09When they played the tape of Dan Campbell at halftime talking about needing to create
00:13turnovers and Carlton Davis picks off a pass with that as the soundtrack, Campbell saying
00:19we need to get turnovers, it's just a coincidence.
00:23Like I get, and it's no surprise, I'm sure a lot of coaches would have been preaching
00:27we need to get turnovers, but they got one as the sound bites playing.
00:36It's almost like Dan Campbell didn't need the legend of Dan Campbell boosted anymore
00:42in this town, but that happens.
00:44Are you kidding me?
00:47You couldn't, you couldn't script it and that happened A and B at the end of the game, if
00:55you had said, all right, how are we going to do this?
00:57Um, what are we going to, what are we going to make this the most dramatic football movie
01:01ever?
01:02That's about a kicker.
01:03Uh, we'll have, have him.
01:05He's a rookie.
01:06We'll have him in his hometown where he had some average everyday job and we all know
01:12what it is now.
01:13And then one year later he's back and he scrapes the right upright, upright to tie it.
01:22Like this stuff is it's movie stuff.
01:28Are you kidding me?
01:30It's great.
01:31It's so great.
01:32I love this movie.
01:33I want to watch it over and over again.
01:36I hope it ends with a really happy ending here.
01:38It's it's, it's every little thing about this team makes you smile even a little more, you
01:44know, and going through the adversity they went through on Sunday night and come away
01:47on top.
01:48Great.
01:49And it's, it's, it's look, watching the players develop as they have, you know, it's seen
01:54Pascoe back out there.
01:56Dan Campbell's right.
01:57You know, he's talking about Pascoe and saying, and we got Pascoe back and he played well.
02:00He did play well.
02:01Yep.
02:02It was good to see him playing well.
02:04You're seeing Jack Campbell out there and he's becoming more of a force this year than
02:08what he was last year.
02:09I had a pretty good rookie season, but he's, he stepped it up a little bit this year.
02:12Uh, but then you're seeing other guys.
02:14I'm sure you did it too.
02:15Who the hell?
02:16What dude?
02:17Okay.
02:18Neiman's out there making plays that you're like, why is Neiman, why is Neiman even seeing
02:22the field?
02:23I'm never going to question it because whatever works works.
02:28And then there was a play where Jamarco Jones, they, we had a Jamarco Jones sighting.
02:31I'm like, I didn't, I thought that he was, was he off the team?
02:35I didn't think they brought him back to the practice squad.
02:37Was he a practice squad guy?
02:38I don't remember that.
02:39Well, you saw how they used him too.
02:41Yes.
02:42It was the, he played the Dan Skipper role.
02:44He went in motion.
02:47Did you need, did you see this Kang?
02:49He goes in motion, lines up as a wing on the end of the left end of the line, chips a guy
02:55and goes out for a pass.
02:57Brilliant.
02:58I don't think the play worked, but it was, but it's just the fact that they don't stop.
03:04This is what they do.
03:06They make you think every time they're putting it all out there on film, you, you don't know
03:10what to expect with the lions offense.
03:13And their roster is chock full of guys that they get a chance to play on Sunday.
03:18There's always somebody that you're like, I don't know who the hell this guy is and
03:20what does he do?
03:21Oh, he's making a play is what he's doing.
03:23Okay, good.
03:24Good for him.
03:25Nice.
03:26I swear to God, I thought they're going to run the hook and ladder to get that first
03:30on the end of the game to put them in fuel range.
03:32Like I, I'm like this, he's going to pull something out.
03:35Ben Johnson's like, he's a sick bastard.
03:37And you remember the green Bay game, they did it with St. Brown and Deandre Swift, you
03:41know?
03:42And I thought, all right, here it comes.
03:43Here it comes.
03:44Like you have to be prepared for anything in any moment when you play the lions and
03:48you talk about being scripted, Doug, how that game was scripted and everything that's just
03:51like, it was like, like you, someone wrote this in a movie.
03:54Yep.
03:55I thought that was the perfect game for the lions.
03:57Of course it works out perfect game because they end up winning the game, but they needed
04:01a wake up call.
04:02Like when they were getting spanked in the first half and I didn't know what the outcome
04:06was going to be.
04:07It didn't look good at that moment.
04:08And I thought to myself, the positive out of this was they were cruising too much, right?
04:11Everyone was giving them their flowers every single week, top of the power rankings.
04:15Everyone just saying how great Ben Johnson is, how great this team is.
04:18Sometimes you need this in the middle of the year to just be like, Hey, remember this can
04:22turn at any moment.
04:23You got to stay on top of it.
04:25They took their lumps, came back and won the game.
04:28And I think now that we know, Hey, they, you know, things are always, you always can work
04:32on something in this league, right?
04:34There's no given wins any, any given Sunday, like they always say.
04:37So I think it was perfect for this team where they're at.
04:39There was one thing that I questioned at the end of the game.
04:42I don't know if you guys had the same thing.
04:45It's third and seven with about 40 seconds to go and the clock is ticking.
04:52It's third down.
04:53You've got two timeouts left.
04:55I was surprised they didn't run another play to see if they can get closer, but they thought
04:5952 yards is good.
05:01We don't need to get another, any, any more yardage.
05:03I just thought that was strange.
05:05I don't know how many teams in a league would say 52 is good enough.
05:10So here's the thing.
05:12I thought about it in the moment too.
05:15And the conclusion I came to is 52.
05:19They are very comfortable with, and you always run the risk of a TFL holding.
05:25And if you back it up 10 yards, now you've, you've created, you go, okay, now we're on
05:30the brink of makeable field goal range.
05:33We should have, should have just let it run, run down.
05:38So I think they, I think that what the message I got, and you know, Dan Campbell talked about
05:43how they ran this end of game scenario with Jake Bates and Thursday's practices.
05:48They know he's going to make it from 52 way more often than not.
05:52And so why risk running another play that could be a negative play?
05:57Which gets back to the point of how many other teams would do this?
06:00How many other teams feel that confident in their kicker?
06:02And because it feels like, okay, you and I bring this up all the time, 50 yard field
06:07goals are going in all over the place.
06:09Everybody's kicking except for Jake Moody.
06:13I think we all thought the same thing.
06:14Why not run another play?
06:15Get a few more yards, but 52 is the new 42, man.
06:19You know what I'm saying?
06:20Like it's, it's Hey, 52, no problem.
06:24That's that's the entire league for the most part.
06:26Although they had the roof open, but the elements aren't, aren't going to play a role in it.
06:29I mean, I understood it to a point.
06:32It's just, it's not what I would have done and doesn't matter.
06:36What matters is what Dan Campbell's going to do.
06:38I thought it was a little strange.
06:39It didn't run an extra play, but they have that much confidence in the kicker.
06:43And to your point, Doug, look, they don't want to take a negative play.
06:46They certainly don't want to take a penalty.
06:48Even if they did though, they'd still have a chance to make that up because if I, if
06:51I heard this correctly last night during the Monday night game, Josh Cardi, the kicker
06:55for the Rams was standing over a 55 yarder, which was going to be a career long.
07:00And I think, I think Joe Buck said that now from beyond 50, when he, as he was there,
07:07did you hear this by chance?
07:08He said, he said, kickers are now at 71% from beyond 50 yards.
07:15And so I think it's, I think you're right.
07:1852 is the new 42.
07:19And obviously they, they, they were right too.
07:22Even if it just shaved through the goalpost, I swear that hit the flag that the last kick,
07:28but Houston's kicker had made like 1150 plus yarders.
07:32So it's not like this is normal, man.
07:35And then he, well, he missed the 58 yard.
07:38You're going to miss some point.
07:39Was Tariqo, it was a Tariqo or Collins where they had the line.
07:42Like if there was an extra coat of paint on that, that's not going in.
07:46My son said to me, if the laces had been turned directly towards, they might've clicked.
07:50It might've hit the goalpost, but unbelievable.
