00:00Troy lines lose to the Arizona Cardinals.
00:03I think this town might melt down.
00:07I think people are going to lose it.
00:10And as much as I feel like
00:13there was not nearly enough respect for Tampa.
00:16I don't think there's any respect for the Cardinals,
00:19even though they beat the Rams the way they did,
00:21they beat the Rams more impressively than the Lions beat the Rams.
00:24I, I would disagree.
00:26I think I think that there is more concern about the game against Arizona
00:29because I didn't say concern.
00:31I said respect.
00:32I think there is more respect for you.
00:33I think there's more respect for Arizona than there was for Tampa.
00:35Yep. And I think it's because they lost to Tampa.
00:38So now you can't afford to look past other teams.
00:41And I think people are looking at, OK, what is what is who's Arizona?
00:45They start doing a deeper dive,
00:46realizes a team and scored a bunch of points against Buffalo.
00:50And then a team that just destroyed the Rams.
00:54And as you point out, the Lions got past the Rams in the first week
00:57and didn't look great doing it, but they won the game.
01:00So add to that.
01:02Who's the quarterback for the for the Arizona Cardinals?
01:04It's Kyler Murray. And what's his chief asset?
01:08He runs around.
01:10He can scramble.
01:11And we know the Lions have had and the Lions aren't alone.
01:15Teams in the NFL struggle.
01:18I laugh when I hear fan bases say, why can't we stop a running quarterback?
01:22Because they're really good at doing what they do.
01:23And because running quarterbacks run on everybody, it's not just your team.
01:27So Murray is an exceptional scrambler.
01:31He scrambles all over the place.
01:33He'll run all over the field until he realizes he's got no chance.
01:36And then he gives himself up.
01:39But we've seen this play out before, and we're going to be nervous about this
01:43because Kyler Murray is one of the best at buying himself extra time.
01:49I understand that, you know, throughout his career,
01:51maybe he hasn't earned the big respect of NFL fans because he hasn't been great.
01:56He's had games where he's looked phenomenal.
01:57He's had games where he has looked like Mung.
02:00But right now, their offense has clicked through two through two weeks.
02:04Lions have a much improved defense.
02:06It's going to be a test for him.
02:07And I think people are respecting what what Arizona has.
02:09Well, I guess I guess we disagree on that fact.
02:12But let me just put it to you like this.
02:15What do you think is going to happen in this town if they lose this game?
02:18Well, that's a different question. Yes.
02:20I think the original is, are we going to be OK?
02:22Is the question. I think fans will lose it.
02:26You know, and then they'll probably blame you because you've brought up
02:28that they haven't lost back to back games in years.
02:32Well, then it would clearly be my fault.
02:33Yeah. But no, they would lose it because we saw how people have reacted
02:39from losing a Tampa if they lose a second game.
02:43This early in the season.
02:45I mean, it's not it's not the end of the world, but again, it's
02:48well, how did that how did they lose the game?
02:50Does the offense still struggle?
02:52Jared Goff throwing more interceptions?
02:55Are they not finding someone
02:58who's a reliable option to get the ball, to get the thing done in the
03:02in the red zone as the defense regressed?
03:06I mean, it all depends how you end up losing a game.
03:10You know, but if they look anything like they've looked in the first two weeks
03:13offensively, that's not going to be good.
03:14Well, the weird thing about their offensive struggles is I think they're
03:17they're somewhat over exaggerated.
03:19They're just not finishing drives.
03:21They've got a top ten offense and yards and passing yards.
03:25In fact, their top two and passing top ten and rushing.
03:28The other thing, though, in getting the feedback
03:30and I saw this in your show sheet today, and I'm like, if if we're listening
03:35to what you know what we're hearing this week.
03:40I fully expect the Lions to hand the ball to David Montgomery
03:42thirty five times this Sunday.
03:46And target Sam Laporta on every other passing it like these are the
03:50these are the repetitive things that we are hearing.
03:52And, you know, Montgomery wasn't that effective last weekend.
03:58No, he wasn't.
03:59It's a well-kept secret in spite of all the calls we got for more Montgomery,
04:03more Montgomery, more Montgomery.
04:05What was he? Eleven carries thirty five yards.
04:07Yeah. I mean, it was nothing special from Montgomery.
04:11You know, the running game itself, the Lions got plenty of yards
04:14running the football.
04:15Jameer Gibbs was very good, and they, you know, do their
04:18weekly handoff to to Jamison Williams and gets yards out of it,
04:22which is which is great.
04:24But they ran a ton of plays.
04:26They threw the ball fifty five times.
04:28Fifty six when you count Jack Fox and they ran it twenty seven times.
04:31It's a lot of plays.
04:33It's a lot of plays, but it's a it's a big disparity
04:35between how many times you threw the ball versus how many times you run the ball.
04:38They always look to achieve balance, but it depends on what the situation
04:42calls for in each game.
04:44Now, did last week's game, did it call to throw the ball that much?
04:49I think that's where the fans will fight back a little bit and say,
04:51you didn't have to throw it that much.
04:53You could have run the ball more.
04:54And we'll see what kind of game.
04:55Yeah.
04:56Dan Campbell said that was a game plan and we're not going to apologize for it.
04:59Well, right.
04:59But then game plans change based on what happens in the course of the game.
05:03So when you see that their defense, that their secondary is is up to the task.
05:09But then you notice that Vita Veya is out of the game.
05:12Collegiate Kansas didn't even start that.
05:14Now you've got this big space up front that you should be able to dominate on.
05:18And they didn't try to take advantage of that
05:21as much as they did try to take advantage of the the weekend.
05:24Second, maybe they got a little impatient, but they did.
05:26You say game plans change during games.
05:29They do.
05:29But they also reflect time and score.
05:31They were down two possessions.
05:33If well, not that I weren't down to possessions.
05:35They were down 20 to 16 for the bulk of the second half
05:40where field goal wouldn't do them any good.
05:42So they were in a lot of passing situations when they got into third
05:46and fourth and long and they had to get a first down
05:48because they needed a touchdown, not a field goal.
05:51And I think that also dictated why those numbers got a little bit out of hand.
