00:00More spectacle or is it more sport?
00:03Because we got yes, we have the the cup the NBA Cup, which is probably more spectacle than sport
00:08We've got the Red Wings playing tonight, which we're all well Red Wing fans are gonna be excited to watch that game
00:12It's on late night. So maybe by the time you get home, yeah dinner or something like that
00:16You're ready to watch sit down watch some hockey
00:18But there's also the Jake Paul Mike Tyson fight and we talked a little bit about the fight yesterday
00:24But the question I have about this and got into a little bit in the in the crosstalk with the guys in the morning show
00:30Is this going to be spectacle or is it going to be sport? Because my only bummer with this whole thing is
00:37that if it's
00:39Predetermined I'm not gonna say scripted but predetermined if this is something where they have an agreement. Okay, look
00:46Jake's gonna win the fight. We're gonna set this up for another fight and then
00:50You guys can go at it and I have a hard time thinking that's the case because I don't think Mike Tyson would do
00:56That I don't think he would sully his his reputation his legacy
01:01to you know
01:04To kowtow to somebody else particularly a YouTube kid, but apparently these guys are friends
01:09despite the fact that Jake Paul stepped on his foot yesterday and Tyson slapped him and I think that was kind of a setup and
01:15I I didn't like seeing that because I thought oh, come on. They're playing it too much
01:20I
01:21Have a concern that it's not gonna be a legit fight and I think it's it's nothing
01:26No shattering. I think a lot of people maybe maybe share that
01:28Can I ask a question with the risk of being sounding older than I am? I know who well
01:34You saw Jake John Jack Johnson fight back in the day
01:38How was that David versus Goliath fight?
01:42Where they scalping tickets
01:44You know the worst part about it was I couldn't get valet for my chariot
01:49anyway
01:51I
01:54Just there's American
01:56Know who Jake Paul is. Yes. Okay. Well, I mean maybe not our generation or your generation
02:03I know I do know he is because you know, I'd give kids right
02:07Well, that's the thing
02:08Is it people that are the generation and there's whatever generation that is a Gen Z or whatever it is
02:13They absolutely know because they've grown up with it. That's the YouTube generation if you okay, they've grown up with it
02:19and
02:20It's hard not to what's interesting. Is that that generation may not know who Mike Tyson is
02:26Certainly not the way that you and I and Kang remember Mike Tyson, right?
02:30And that's that this is where this gap is
02:32This is why there's some interest in it because you got the big generation gap
02:37guys like us that remember how
02:40devastatingly
02:42Powerful and and good Mike Tyson was back in the day coming in with a cut up sweatshirt
02:48You'd sit there and wonder why obviously money why anybody especially one early on in his career would even
02:56Step in the ring with him because you could get back in the day. Yeah, you you risked your health
03:02Yeah
03:03and when he came back when he got sent to jail and he came back from from that and he fought Hurricane Peter McNeely and
03:09That was done quickly. I went to a pay-per-view was like a state theater or something
03:14I went to a pay-per-view and some one of my friends got it
03:17We watched the fight and then there was I think Bruce Seldon was the next guy that fought him and Bruce Seldon wanted
03:22Nothing to do with Mike Tyson Seldon had this body of this physique of a bodybuilder, right?
03:27And he stepped into the ring and you could tell from moment one
03:31he was scared to death and did not want to fight Tyson and
03:36That fight lasted nothing and you know that he still had it
03:40But then as his time went on he didn't have it he lost it mentally
03:45You know bit
03:47Vanderhoof field in the whole bit and then he started losing all the fights at the end of his career that that
03:53Joke of a fight the palace that took place and Oh Andrew Galata Andrew Galata
03:57Yeah
03:57And all this and it was just it was he ended up I think really hurting his legacy in the end and then kind of
04:03Disappeared for a while
04:05Does the hangover everybody loves Tyson again gets a tattoo on his face and all that
04:10And people are back on board with Mike Tyson, even though he's still you know, he's still edgy
04:15You don't know we can't remember we did an interview with Tyson. We did a podcast with Tyson
04:19We recorded that and he was on the phone went in the other studio and did this
04:23He was still wild Mike Tyson. Oh
04:26Yeah, I mean Mike's had an incredible crazy crazy journey, you know, like I mean if you follow him from
04:33Since he was a young star. I mean he was the youngest heavyweight champion ever, right?
04:36Like what 19 20 years old years old incredible and then to where he is
04:40I use you mentioned the jail stint and now
04:42Coming back on, you know going away for a while coming back all said now. He's I feel like you know
04:48We obviously know him as a fighter, but people know him now as something different, but they know who Mike Tyson is
04:53That's how much he is in pop culture now and you know part of this is is you know, when we talk about generations
04:59I think part of the reason that our generation can't stand Jake Paul
05:04And the whole YouTube thing is that our generation feels like you had to pay your dues in some respect correct, right and
05:12This is a generation that is this is over
05:14This is painting it with a broad brush and I understand it
05:17But just specifically Jake Paul that it feels like this guy's gotten into the fight game and hasn't had to pay his dues
05:22He's picking and choosing who he's fighting from moment one with opponents
05:27he knows he's going to beat and embarrass and
05:30He still hasn't fought in and then this so this choice of Mike Tyson is interesting because it's a legend
05:37But it's a legend at 58. Yeah, I mean look when he beat Michael Moore when George Foreman beat Michael Moore in
05:471994
05:48Michael Moore, I mean Foreman was 45 years old. Yeah, okay, and it was Michael Moore's under
05:55And he and Foreman had just lost his previous fight to of all people Tommy Morrison
06:01And it was like, oh my god, this old man. He's 44 years old. He's
06:05Winning the heavyweight championship of the world with this unbelievable comeback and it's when he sit down between rounds
06:12He just stood up. Yeah, but and that was 14 years ago. Yeah, that's a 45 year old who wasn't chasing after
06:21I do the math. It was 1994 was
06:2320 no, keep going gate. Well, it's 20. It's 20 years ago. Yeah
06:32Either way, but still there's a difference between 45 and 58. It's a huge huge gap, right?
06:37now the the but there's also the physical difference, you know, George Foreman was a much heavier fighter and was
06:44He didn't have real defense. He just this weird cross thing with his with his punches, but he wasn't chasing after the fighters
06:52He basically let the fight come to him and he had such power
06:54He would just take care of you and it was a nice story for a few years and then it was done
06:59Why because he was 45 Mike Tyson looks like he's in great shape
07:04But he's 58, right? He's a great shit for a 58-year-old. Yeah, I can't ignore the fact that he's 58
07:10Does he really have and again with his fight tonight?
07:14I'm interested, but I don't know if I can actually bring myself to tune in at the time when it comes out
07:20I said yesterday I feel like
07:22This is one of those fights that I want to know who wins
07:26If Jake Paul wins, I don't want to watch you want to go in the Tyson Paul bubble
07:30No, it is the exact opposite. I don't want to go in a bubble. I want to know that who wins
07:36And that'll determine if I'm gonna watch the fight if I hear the Tyson knocks him up then bet you I'm blogging out of my
07:41Netflix account right away
07:43But if Jake Paul wins, I don't want to see it
07:45I want nothing to do with it because it was a sham to begin with and an embarrassment that you would
07:50Agree to fight a 58 year old and it's elder abuse or whatever. You want to say?
07:54I just what you know, it's it's just a different mentality. Let me give you the middle scenario. What if it's a really good fight?
08:02Is that possible? I don't think so. Tell me you obviously don't
08:07Think so. I'm not gonna watch. I don't think I'm gonna watch it live if it's a really good fight and Jake Paul wins
08:13I'm probably not gonna watch it
08:15And what times it start like 11? Is that well the the whole card starts at 8 p.m
08:20That's when the card start. Is there a fight on the undercard? Oh, there's a bunch of it's intriguing though
08:25Yeah, there's a the women's fight right before it the the coal main event
08:29I guess you would call it is that should be a good action-filled fight Gator said intriguing. Yeah
08:34Boxing with all due respect. It's not that intriguing. I'm just telling you that's the undercard
08:38I didn't know if there was like a celebrity fighter. No
08:41Mary Jo Sanders Charlie's daughter. She retired a while ago. I used to watch her fight
08:48Leila Lee's not fighting. Yeah, he's not fighting Christy Martin. No, but
08:54She's doing the biopic of that Wow
08:57That is amazing stretch
09:00City sweetie so much better looking
09:06Can I say that
09:10Because I said one woman's better better looking than another I don't think you're gonna get an argument for me
09:17Sweeney's the it girl in Hollywood right now. You got Christy Martin who was you know, yeah
09:23Female boxer back in the 90s. So not so much
09:27Two four eight five three nine ninety seven ninety seven is a telephone number the Jake Paul Mike Tyson fight tonight
09:32You know, do you think it's gonna be spectacle or do you think it's gonna be sport?
09:36Are you gonna tune in and why or why not?
