00:00How to communicate to the youngest in the family the experience of a metastatic oncological disease?
00:10It's called Adventures in the Box, the illustrated novel published by Gilead,
00:15in which Nea and Sophia, together with their parents,
00:18decide that the disease of the mother, the metastatic breast cancer,
00:22will not prevent them from living beautiful and magical adventures.
00:26In a jar, they will put some notes that will be fished to give life to the wishes.
00:31This is how this story begins, born from the experience of Lauren Huffmaster,
00:35a mother with metastatic breast cancer,
00:37in line with what Marie Curie said,
00:40among the most famous women in history,
00:42in life nothing must be feared, including oneself.
00:45This is just a flower, a very thin sword,
00:50the way in which a brave mother can fight to give hope to her children,
00:57to tell them a story that is not just that of care
01:01and that of vacations that perhaps cannot be done because the mother is not well.
01:07Gilead has chosen the Festival for the Heritage of Women in Florence
01:11to present in advance the book, which will soon be available for free.
01:16The theme on how to communicate the metastatic breast cancer to children is very current,
01:20but little debated, and what happens next,
01:23how to deal with the most complex moments that therapies involve.
01:27It is a bit of a map that guides people who live this experience
01:33in search of reference points, such as the jar.
01:39The jar is something reassuring because it contains
01:44symbolic content, such as the star, the meteor,
01:53all the little pebbles, like in Hansel and Gretel's fairy tales,
01:59that leave a memory of the things done, especially those done together.
