00:00Hello there, and a very happy Christmas to you on this mild and cloudy Christmas day.
00:05First of all, your bigger picture. The air remains mild, not as mild as yesterday.
00:09Christmas Eve was exceptionally mild.
00:11You can look at these colours just extending across the country.
00:14High pressure towards the south. Things are fairly static here.
00:17A lot of clouds trapped underneath this highland.
00:19Bit of a breeze towards the north and northwest.
00:22Now here's a snapshot for mid-morning.
00:24So if you are planning to step out and get some fresh air, yes, there is quite a wind,
00:29but even so, mostly dry conditions away from the far northwest of Scotland.
00:33And where the clouds are thick enough, particularly over the highlands, you could see the odd spot or two of rain.
00:37At the same time, in shelter, some breaks in the cloud allow for some brighter skies.
00:41That cloud extends down across central and southern parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
00:45England and Wales are also seeing a lot of slow-moving cloud.
00:48In fact, we've seen some mist and fog patches overnight.
00:51But through the day, where the cloud breaks, you'll see some brighter skies coming through.
00:55Even a glimmer of sunshine.
00:57Now let's just move back to the beginning of Christmas Day.
01:00You can see where this rain is persistent across the Outer Hebrides and quite a breeze here.
01:05Elsewhere, this cloud continues right the way through the morning into the afternoon.
01:09The air remains mild right the way through the day.
01:11And again, some brighter breaks are likely.
01:14Now through the afternoon, you can see this rain just pushing in across mainland Scotland.
01:19So some wet weather to come here.
01:21Elsewhere, it is mostly dry, but where the cloud is thick enough, exposed to the wind,
01:26you could see the odd spot or two of rain.
01:28Here are your temperatures then through Christmas Day.
01:30A notch down on Christmas Eve, even so, coming in around 10 to 12 degrees Celsius.
01:35The winds will pick up through Christmas Day evening and overnight across the western side of Scotland
01:41as this weather front moves in towards central parts.
01:44So let's take a look at a little detail then.
01:46So this evening, you can see that rain just encroaching across the highlands of Scotland.
01:50Behind it, one or two showers moving in.
01:53The rain then arrives across the far north and west of Northern Ireland.
01:56Elsewhere, yet again through evening time into Boxing Day, you can see a lot of cloud.
02:01And where the cloud is thick enough, we'll see some patchy rain and drizzle.
02:04And the rain across central parts of Scotland down towards Northern Ireland through the first part of Boxing Day
02:09will tend to weaken.
02:11Always a lot of cloud and some damp weather though.
02:13Some breaks towards the east of the Pennines through the afternoon.
02:16And a few showers with some sunshine across the far northwest of Scotland.
02:21Temperatures around 9 or 10 degrees Celsius through the 26th.
02:26So here's your bigger picture through Friday and into the weekend.
02:29Winds alight towards the south.
02:31High pressure extends from central parts of Europe.
02:33And another one builds across the Atlantic, again influencing our weather.
02:37The air turns colder, well a little bit colder, through Saturday.
02:40And again, a bit of a squeeze on the ice bars across the far north.
02:43But settled conditions extend into Sunday as the air recovers a little bit.
02:48So here's your outlook through Friday.
02:50It's pretty much spot the difference.
02:52A lot of cloud, temperatures 9, 10 or even 11 degrees Celsius.
02:56Wherever you are, have a wonderful Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
03:00And I'll see you again soon.
