00:00What's up, everyone?
00:22This is Noah Dalzell, and I'm here with the post-Media Day episode of You Got Boston.
00:28Really excited to be here and really excited to have just finished a very long day at
00:32the Auerbach Center, where we heard from almost all the players.
00:36Actually not almost all the players.
00:37We heard from the starters, and we heard from a couple of bench players, and I presume we'll
00:41hear from the rest of the bench players in the coming days.
00:45But yeah, it was great to just get a sense of kind of where people are at.
00:48I feel like so much of the summer is speculating or taking one quote that some reporter got
00:53for an article and then running with it or working with the facial expression of somebody
00:57at the Olympics.
00:58So it was great to actually just be able to ask players firsthand exactly what it is that
01:03they're feeling, what they're experiencing, and all of that.
01:06So my goal for this session is going to be is to answer all your questions, as always.
01:12I think there's a lot of podcasts out there.
01:13You'll probably be able to watch the interviews, be able to get analysis.
01:17So I'm just going to give you guys an opportunity if you're curious about what happened to Media
01:20Day behind the scenes, happy to share as much as possible.
01:23I can share some of the questions that I asked, some of the conversations that I had.
01:27And I'm super excited.
01:29I feel like, you know, this is my first time actually starting this public season from
01:32the beginning.
01:33Last year, I came in midway.
01:34So I never actually been to a Media Day.
01:36It was just kind of wild.
01:37Like, there was so much media there, like finals level media, I would say.
01:43And you know, a part of that is also because the rest of the NBA didn't have media today.
01:48You know, this was a week before the rest of the league.
01:51And we're going to have practice tomorrow, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday.
01:56So I'll have updates from all of those days, Saturday, the Celtics are off.
01:59And then on Monday, I'm pretty sure they're going to Abu Dhabi.
02:03And so for all of next week, it'll be available, you know, we won't have like as much updates
02:08as an availability.
02:09So this is the big week.
02:10This is training camp.
02:11We'll hear from people.
02:12You can find on CLNS, all of the postgame, all the Media Day press conferences.
02:18And so if you want to watch yourself, which I probably would, if I wasn't a reporter,
02:22I'd be curious to kind of see for myself, you can do that after this as well.
02:26And there'll be with the rest of the interviews and everything in the coming days.
02:29So we didn't hear from everybody.
02:30So the players that we didn't hear from today, we definitely will hear from in the next few
02:34days.
02:35And before I start just plugging, subscribe to ULive Boston if you're watching this on
02:39Twitter or on CLNS, it's so appreciated.
02:43People tuning in in the offseason, I'm excited for even more people to tune in now that the
02:47season has started.
02:48And again, as I mentioned, I cover the WNBA and the Celtics.
02:51Today, Celtics questions.
02:52We'll do a Celtics Media Day analysis.
02:55Tomorrow I'm going to Celtics practice and then I'm going to Connecticut Sun, the Connecticut
03:00Sun home arena, the Mohican Sun arena for the game against the Beavers.
03:04So tomorrow we'll do WNBA questions for those of you that are curious on that.
03:08So with that, I see that we have some questions lining up.
03:10Feel free to just throw them in the chat if you're watching this on YouTube.
03:13If you're on Twitter, I won't be able to see them if you comment them, but feel free to
03:16go on YouTube and watch this.
03:17You can just put in ULive Boston on your YouTube search bar and you'll show up on this video.
03:24But yeah, I'll just start.
03:25Maybe I'll give my first takeaway first before I go through all the questions.
03:29My general impressions from Media Day was that everybody was pretty relaxed.
03:34There was a good vibe.
03:35There was like, you know, happy to be back, kind of first day of school type of thing.
03:40I think Porzingis was the one that said that, but it definitely didn't feel like, oh, you
03:45won the championship.
03:46We're all laid back.
03:47We're enjoying ourselves and like relaxing and any of that.
03:50Like that has, we are months removed from that feeling.
03:53We are now at a point where everybody's like super fired up and ready to go.
03:58And I thought that everybody had their own unique approach to today.
04:03I would say Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum had very different energies today.
04:06I'm seeing here somebody said it felt like the Jays were pissed off.
04:10I thought Tatum seemed pissed off and he seemed really motivated by the Olympic thing.
04:14And he said, I'm not going to give anybody credit for motivating me.
04:16So I'm not going to give like Steve Kerr credit for benching me essentially, although he didn't
04:21use his name or anything.
04:23But Jalen, I thought was loose.
04:25He made some jokes.
04:26He was happy.
04:27He was like, honestly, a version of him that I've seen a handful of times, very rarely.
04:31He talked about how great a summer was, that the championship was a blessing, that he dove
04:35into the shoe market and learned about the shoe industry.
04:38And I think tonight he's making an announcement about his new shoe because he hinted at that
04:42earlier today.
04:43And then obviously he talked a little bit about some other things too, about, you know,
04:49he mentioned the snub, but he didn't get into it.
04:50I think like that's in the past.
04:52We spoke to him at summer league.
04:53I feel like that was more the opportunity where he actually kind of reflected and was
04:58more willing to talk about all that.
05:00But Tatum said, you know, like a reporter asked him, I actually don't know who the reporter
05:03was.
05:04It wasn't one of the usual Celtics speed reporters, but as a reporter started off by asking Tatum,
05:08like, what did you learn in the Olympics?
05:11And Tatum was like, what do you want to ask me?
05:13Like, what's the question here?
05:14Do you want to ask why I didn't play two games?
05:16Like, is that the question?
05:17And the reporter was kind of like, yeah.
05:19So Tatum basically said, I still don't know why I didn't play, but I know everything happens
05:23for a reason.
05:24And also he said the quote of the day, in my opinion, and that was that Joe Mazzuola
05:28was asking him, he was talking to Joe Mazzuola a lot during that period of time and that
05:33Joe was very happy, not only that Tatum was not the finals MVP, but also that now he was
05:38getting kind of extra motivation from the fact that he was benched.
05:43And so, yeah, that was interesting.
05:46That was kind of the, that was kind of the quote of the day.
05:49I thought that Mazzuola was like celebrating Tatum going through this like national crisis
05:52of this benching that was heard around the world.
05:55But outside of that, yeah, I thought that, you know, he talked about how happy he is
05:58to be back, all that.
06:01Brad spoke, Mazzuola spoke, I'm happy to kind of go into any particular press conferences
06:05if people have questions.
06:06I won't just ramble on for too long because we'll start doing these, these questions.
06:09So starting off question here from Pete, good evening, didn't KP seem quite healthy?
06:16So for those of you that are just tuning in, Porzingis spoke today.
06:20I was honestly a little surprised that he did because he is injured and he doesn't necessarily
06:25like have to be available.
06:26I think if he's not, if he's injured, but it kind of reminded me during the finals when
06:30he was dealing with that calf injury and everybody was kind of wondering, is he going to be back
06:34for the finals or not?
06:35And we were all sitting there in, you know, in the Auerbach Center.
06:39And the way that it works is like, we're all sitting in rows, like a little assembly, there's
06:43a stage and the players file in one after the other.
06:45And all of a sudden Porzingis turns the corner and he is happy, he's waving to everybody,
06:51good evening, you know, good afternoon, everyone, you know, he's very jovial with the media.
06:55And right away he says that he's doing really well, that he's doing a lot better than I
07:00think he even expected and that things are moving quickly.
07:03He said, it's a very rare injury, we're going to be slow.
07:06And he also said, you know, the medical staff and everybody, they are telling me to slow,
07:10you know, to be slow, to be careful, you know, I would go a little bit faster if I could.
07:15And it's kind of exactly what his energy was with the calf injury.
07:18You know, after the conference finals, between the conference finals and the finals last
07:22season, there was like a week and a half break, you know, as, cause they got, you know, they
07:25swept them and so there was so much time in between.
07:27And when we spoke to Porzingis, you know, he just wanted to be back and it was clear
07:31like he was a little impatient, but that he was also recognizing how he was going to defer
07:35obviously to his, you know, to the medical staff and everything.
07:39But yeah, he said he's doing well.
07:41I think Brad said that he's even been surprisingly well, how fast he's been recovering.
07:47I think the general timeline that he reported to Ramona Shelburne at ESPN is December at
07:53some point. I wouldn't be surprised if it spilled into January if he's just really taking
07:57his time. But in either case, like it's very clear that there has been no setbacks.
08:02He was walking. He actually said the thing that I found really fascinating was that he
08:06played with light contact over the weekend and he's been running.
08:09So I don't know.
08:10I mean, again, this is a weird injury, but to me, it's like you're running and you're
08:14this contact and it's September, like he'll probably be good to go maybe sooner than we
08:17even expect. The question is whether, you know, him being good to go translates into
08:21him actually playing.
08:23There might be a little bit of a delay there.
08:26And I guess I should mention also that the other the other piece of information that
08:30I had, and that's that there was two surgeries that we did not know about.
08:35One was Luke Hornet had a wrist surgery.
08:37I remember Luke Hornet like banged his wrist in the final, in the Eastern Conference finals.
08:41And like, I never thought about it again.
08:43I feel like a bad report. I didn't, you know, it never really came up.
08:46He obviously didn't play in the finals.
08:47And now I'm starting to think, like, I wonder if there was that was part of the reason why
08:51Tillman kind of jumped to the rotation in the finals.
08:53You know, we always kind of discussed it as a matchup thing.
08:56But then he had offseason wrist surgery, like pretty much right away after the season ended.
09:02And then Tillman had a knee scope in July.
09:06And so they're both kind of recovering and I think will be good to go in there for their
09:09respective procedures.
09:12And Brad revealed that Tillman, what I thought was kind of funny, or the the Hornet, what
09:15he said, you know, as you guys know, and I was like, I don't think any of us knew that
09:19Luke Hornet had a wrist surgery.
09:21But I bring I say all that to say that I think Luke Hornet and Xavier Tillman might
09:27have like some limitations to them early on.
09:31And I feel like just yesterday, we were talking about this and someone asked me, is Mimi,
09:35you know, between Mimi, Xavier and Luke, like, who is the person who you're the most, you
09:40the most think is, you know, going to have a big role in the rotation.
09:42And I actually think I said Mimi just because I think he has the high ceiling.
09:46He doesn't have like injury concerns that I knew of.
09:49And now that's only more for him knowing that they both had procedures in the offseason.
09:52And so I think Mimi is going to come in and have a big role.
09:54I know that we have some, you know, fans from Portugal that are probably going to be very
09:59excited about that.
10:00And so, yeah, we'll probably see an increased load because, you know, Al Horvath spoke today.
10:04I think Al is feeling great, but he's ramping up.
10:06You mentioned he's not considering retirement or, you know, he feels good and he's not on
10:10his radar right now.
10:11So kind of like to stop asking him about it.
10:13But I think between those two offseason surgeries, Mimi is the one that stood out to me as like,
10:19he might be taking on a bigger role than maybe we thought.
10:22So yeah, that was something that he kind of stood out to me there.
10:27Just going to run down the list here.
10:29So feel free to put your questions in the chat box and I'll be kind of looking through
10:32these and pinning the ones that I'm answering.
10:35And again, I'm going to be doing these like all week because this is training camp week
10:38and I'm actually around the team and have a lot to say as of, you know, as of today.
10:43So feel free to throw in questions.
10:44And also I got a couple of people to DM and be like, can you ask Luke if he wants to be
10:48a comedian after his career ends?
10:50And I was like, that's actually a pretty good question.
10:52He was being absolutely hilarious today, but that those DMs came after the press conferences.
10:56So if you have anything you want asked of the bench players, like I'm happy to see if
10:59I can squeeze it in tomorrow when we have our pressers, provided that it's like a question
11:04that makes sense for me to ask, obviously.
11:08Okay.
11:09So question here from Tom, who was your favorite interview today?
11:13I'm going to go with Jalen Brown.
11:16And I think that Jalen had a very relaxed, happy energy about him and it's always just
11:21nice to see people happy.
11:22Right.
11:23I think that's human nature.
11:24But I also think that there was something distinct about kind of the way that he carried
11:28himself where it didn't feel like, oh, hey, Jalen Brown is satisfied.
11:31He won final MVP.
11:32He won the championship.
11:33Maybe he's going to take things for granted and come out a little bit slow.
11:37It was actually quite the opposite.
11:39I felt like Jalen's energy was like, I'm in the best shape of my life.
11:43I've been working really hard.
11:45And he made note of that, that even though he's been traveling around the world, he's
11:47found a way to stay really engaged in the gym and everything.
11:50And so he, to me, strikes the perfect balance of like somebody who is in a really great
11:55mood and was light and happy and clearly like still kind of have the championship glow.
12:00But it didn't seem like, okay, he's a ripe candidate for the championship hangover.
12:04It seems like he's really prioritizing staying in the gym, staying in shape, getting better.
12:09But it was funny.
12:10He joked around.
12:11I think I mentioned this earlier.
12:12His first question was about the Olympic, staying off the Olympic team.
12:15And Jalen was like, wow, damn, my first question, like guys are going to warm up here with me.
12:21And so I thought that was funny because, you know, he could have taken it out the wrong
12:24way and been like, really?
12:25Like I just won the championship and you're going to ask me for the Olympic thing right
12:27away.
12:28But he took everything in stride and made some jokes about being old.
12:31He was asked about, I think John Kraus asked him about being the longest tenured player
12:36on the team, or maybe it was another reporter, but he was like, it's another way of calling
12:39me old.
12:40So he was joking around.
12:41It was not, you know, it's not always the Jalen Brown that you get, certainly a lot
12:44of press conferences that we had with him last year.
12:47It was not his energy.
12:48You know, even after good games, even after wins, he's a serious guy.
12:52He made clear that he was going to be kind of all business regardless of what happens.
12:56And it seems like he let his guard down a little bit.
12:58So that was cool.
12:59That was probably my favorite press conference.
13:01Oh, or I got to give a shout out to Lou Cornette.
13:05Seriously, like I don't want to be biased here.
13:08But if you have 10 minutes, search the Lou Cornette press conference, watch it on YouTube.
13:14CLNS has it.
13:16It was so funny.
13:17He started talking about why he still didn't pay off his mortgage and giving economic advice.
13:22And then also he was talking about like Woj and how he didn't mean to be the first Woj
13:26bomb, but shout out to Woj.
13:28He had a great career, even though he's still alive.
13:31Like it doesn't sound funny when I say it, but I swear to God, like I was literally wheezing
13:35and I was like, okay, I can't be acting like this, like in the press conference room.
13:38But Lou Cornette is hilarious.
13:39He was really entertaining today.
13:40He doesn't do media a lot.
13:42So when he does do media, I feel like he really capitalizes on the fact that he's at the podium
13:48and has the opportunity to do it.
13:50Like he really, yeah, he, I don't know that this bit can go on, like doing like all this
13:56clown stuff and being really funny at the podium if he was like adjacent to him, like
14:00he's always talking to me.
14:01I think he speaks so infrequently that he can kind of do a whole performance when he's
14:05up there, honestly, in a sense.
14:10Callum here asks, any idea what the shot mechanic issue that Tatum is trying to fix is?
14:16I don't want to misquote him.
14:17He spoke about it today.
14:19I can share the link, exactly the tweet of what he exactly described, but he mentioned
14:23it was a couple of different things.
14:24And he mentioned that it was part of it was his release point.
14:28Like I think he was actually lowering the shot a little bit too much, but I got to find
14:32the exact thing.
14:33But the thing that stood out to me from what he said today about his shot mechanic issue
14:37is that I think he recognized in the playoffs when he was struggling that his shot was not
14:42where it needed to be.
14:43Obviously, we all saw that he was shooting 28 percent from three and then obviously
14:47struggled even more in the Olympics.
14:49But then he actually made the decision to not go try to tweak his shot in the middle
14:54of the playoffs because of the fact that, A, he had to prioritize rest, but that he
14:58was otherwise playing well and contributing and the team was winning.
15:01So he didn't want to, like, all of a sudden go and do a whole thing where he is revamping
15:06a shot and getting in all these extra hours at the gym and everything.
15:09So I say all that to say, like, I think we sometimes talk about, like, is this mental
15:14or is this mechanical?
15:15I think he recognized that it was mechanical relatively early on, too, but also didn't
15:22want to do too much.
15:24And so now, since he's gone back from a lot of his travels and he has been all over
15:28the place, he has made it a point to get in the gym.
15:33You know, he's been in the gym with Drew Hanlon, his skills coach, fixing a couple
15:38mechanical things.
15:40And I would imagine that it works.
15:42You know, I don't know.
15:43I think some shooters don't really go through that.
15:45But he has a little bit of an unorthodox shot.
15:47So he's not like a pure shooter.
15:48I'm sure Sam Houser is not going in as much as frequently and like revamping a shot.
15:53But it is ultimately something that makes sense.
15:59OK, a question about did you get the impression that KP might come back earlier?
16:05I got the impression that KP will be available to come back earlier.
16:08Like, I genuinely do think that he will be good to go.
16:12I don't think that they'll play him earlier.
16:15That's the kind of distinction there.
16:18And so I think that they're going to prioritize above everything else his health.
16:22And honestly, like, he's kind of an injury risk, even if he's not dealing with anything
16:25like every game that he plays is a little bit of a risk.
16:28I hate to put it like that, but I think the fact that he is going to be ready to go,
16:32it doesn't mean that they'll actually play him.
16:34And I think when he does get played, like they'll probably ease into him
16:37and play more limited minutes, the back to back.
16:40So we're going to see they're going to continue to manage this guy,
16:43like not just with this particular injury.
16:45Like, I think in general, they're going to have an approach to him
16:47that's maybe like not what he wants necessarily.
16:53OK. Oh, this is cool.
16:55Watching this from Latvia.
16:56What are the prices for OK seats in Boston?
16:58First of all, very cool to see fans from all over the world tuning in.
17:03It's actually I'm going to use this as a moment to discuss a different topic.
17:07And that's just like the fact that there were multiple players
17:09that brought championships to countries that I'd never seen
17:12an NBA player win a championship before.
17:14It's something that Al Horford spoke about.
17:16Al Horford was in the Dominican Republic with Joe Mizzoula, with Tony Dobbins.
17:21He said that as soon as he asked Joe, Joe was all in.
17:23They brought the trophy to the Dominican Republic
17:25and that they were the country really celebrated him.
17:27And I thought a nice little nugget that we learned today
17:29was that Al saw Manny Ginobili do the same.
17:34You know, when he first brought the Larry O'Brien trophy to Argentina,
17:37I think it gave him this inspiration of like, OK, I want to do this one day.
17:41He told his wife, like, one day I'm going to win the championship,
17:43but I'm going to bring the Larry O'Brien trophy to my home country.
17:46And so he was able to do that this summer.
17:49Namia Shikeda, who didn't speak with us yet today.
17:51I think we'll speak with him later in the week.
17:53But he did do the NBC Boston panel.
17:56He talked about kind of like the love that he's received in Portugal.
17:58So I say all that just to say that Al and that, you know,
18:04these other players really were embraced by their home countries.
18:06I'm sure Porzingis was as well.
18:07We didn't speak to him about that particular topic yet.
18:12But yeah, but anyways, to answer your question,
18:14what are prices for OKC in Boston?
18:16Generally speaking, I think like $150 a ticket, $100.
18:21Sometimes a little bit less than that to get in, you know,
18:24it's balcony seats, but honestly, I think balcony seats are totally fine.
18:29I've sat in balcony seats many times in my life before I cover the team.
18:32And I always felt like once you're in the garden,
18:34it doesn't really matter where you're sitting.
18:36Opening night, I've been monitoring those prices.
18:39And those are about a hundred and sorry, like $450 tickets.
18:45So those are a little bit more expensive.
18:48And actually, I'm going to use that as my cue to talk a little about game time.
18:52I love going to events right now.
18:53It's football season.
18:54I love going to football games, concerts, really any events.
18:57Living in Boston, you can just put in any event into the game time app
19:02and you can get the best prices guaranteed.
19:04Game time has a new feature called Game Time Picks
19:07that makes getting tickets to see your favorite teams play live even easier.
19:11Game Time Picks filters out the fluff to show you only incredible deals
19:14on great seats so you don't have to waste time
19:16searching through thousands of tickets.
19:18So all you have to do is figure out what it is you want to attend.
19:23For example, I'm looking right now to get tickets for my family
19:26for opening night for the Celtics so I can search that game
19:29and browse through the seats on Game Time Picks.
19:32I can already see there's lots of great deals, there are super deals,
19:35different tiers of deals.
19:37And basically, as I'm looking, I'm able to actually see
19:39what the actual perspective of the court is from that particular seat.
19:44I have to make sure I don't want to get them seats
19:45that are in the balcony that are too far away.
19:47I can see what the court view is going to look like from those seats.
19:51So that way, I'm able to choose without just looking at a seat number,
19:54which maybe doesn't mean anything to me.
19:55I'm able to see right away
19:57that this is a seat that I want to buy for my family members for opening night
20:00so they can see the ring ceremony and the banner raising and all that fun stuff.
20:04So Game Time Picks makes curation much easier,
20:07makes it easier to save more on sports, concerts, comedy, theater, etc.
20:10It's all in pricing, so you can use this feature
20:14to see the total upfront price.
20:15So there's no fees at the checkout.
20:18And the price that it says is the price that it is.
20:20You get the panoramic view.
20:22You get a lowest price guarantee for game time.
20:24So if you find a lower price elsewhere,
20:26Game Time will credit you 110% of the difference.
20:29And there's Game Time ticket coverage.
20:31Your purchase is covered with the most flexible customer service policy
20:34in the ticketing industry.
20:36So take the guesswork out of buying tickets with Game Time,
20:38download the Game Time app, create an account and use code CLNS
20:42for $20 off your first purchase.
20:44Terms apply. Again, create an account and redeem code CLNS for $20 off.
20:48Download Game Time today. What time is it? Game time.
20:53And I really do use Game Time for all my purchases,
20:56so I'm currently wandering.
20:57I haven't bought the tickets yet, but my dad and my brother,
20:59it's their birthday gift to go to opening night.
21:02So we will see.
21:03When I feel like the time is right, I'm pulling a plug on that one.
21:07OK, continuing to look through questions here.
21:09Is that Lothian in the chat? Is that what I'm seeing?
21:12Um, pretty cool, if so.
21:15Did you get a sense of what the older players thought of the new guys
21:18like Baylor or Watson?
21:20There was one question that spoke to that.
21:22And honestly, today it was like there were so many reporters
21:25and so many players and so much to discuss that like
21:28we're going to have all week things to discuss with everybody.
21:32The only question that spoke to it was Sam Hauser.
21:34I think Bobby Manning might have asked him, but he mentioned Baylor
21:37and he said Baylor is a good, not just a good shooter.
21:40He's just like has a really good feel for the game.
21:42He's a good all around player and he's going to have a good NBA career.
21:45I think people are going to compare the two guys,
21:48Baylor, Shireman and and Sam Hauser,
21:51just because of the fact that they're both shooters.
21:53They're both like white guys.
21:55Inevitably, that's going to come up as like a parallel point.
21:57I think Drew Peterson kind of gets lumped into that category as well.
22:01But the reality is that I actually think Sam Hauser and Baylor
22:04Shireman are very different players.
22:06And the more you guys watch Baylor play, and I was at Summer League,
22:10so I watched him a lot there, the more I kind of solidified
22:13that viewpoint of like him being not really a Sam, a Sam like player.
22:18Like he he's more of a passer, more of a kind of an all around guy.
22:21And he's also not as good of a shooter.
22:22And again, this is something that I've talked about a lot
22:25in my time covering the Celtics, but like it's one thing to be a shooter.
22:30It's another thing to be a Sam Hauser shooter.
22:32Like Sam Hauser is not like a dime a dozen.
22:33Like that is really unusual to have that level of accuracy.
22:36And I always point to the fact that he has never shot below 40 percent
22:39from the field as like a stat to really kind of recap
22:42like how good of a shooter he has been.
22:44And so Baylor Shireman is not going to get there, but not there right now.
22:48He might get there.
22:49But Sam was really impressed by him.
22:51That was the only thing that we heard.
22:52We didn't hear from Baylor or Anton today.
22:56I believe they spoke on the Embassy Boston podium.
22:59I haven't gotten a chance to watch all of those interviews yet,
23:01but you can find those as well.
23:06I asked a couple of questions.
23:07I'm not sure which one you referred to, Julius, but thank you.
23:09I asked Eric White about the Olympics and kind of what an incredible experience
23:12that was for him and how he was just kind of sitting at home
23:15and all of a sudden got the call.
23:17I also talked to Jalen Brown about I asked him what the highlight of the summer was.
23:21He mentioned really was the Filmthropic Works launching Boston Exchange
23:25and Oakland Exchange, these two kind of tandem foundations
23:29that are going to be investing in underrepresented communities
23:31and creators, entrepreneurs.
23:33And the fun fact there is that Jalen Brown is working on the Oakland one
23:37with Jason Kidd.
23:39You may remember him as the coach of the Dallas Mavericks.
23:41So funny little overlap there.
23:45But yeah, I thought, yeah, I talked to Al about the Dominican Republic.
23:49I actually like Porzingis.
23:50I asked Porzingis about the fact that he has been obviously frustrating to rehab,
23:54but how much does it help to know that like he was able to contribute
23:57to the Celtics in game one of the finals game two before he went down?
24:01Like, is that motivating him?
24:02Is that image of the championship stuff making getting back on the court easier?
24:06And he he actually took my question a different way that I meant it.
24:09But what he said was, it's very obvious that
24:13we are, you know, that the Celtics and that as he's kind of going back
24:17to his return, that he is he knows he can get back to contribute to the team.
24:22Sorry, I lost my train of thought there.
24:23But he knows that because he has been there, like he's not feeling like,
24:26oh, am I going to get back there or not?
24:28Like he already knows he's been on the floor before.
24:30He's dealt with so many different kinds of injuries.
24:32This is not new.
24:33This is something new for him.
24:34This is not anything unprecedented.
24:37And that stood out to me because I was thinking, like, knock on wood.
24:40But like if Jason Tatum had a major injury like that,
24:42he hasn't had to deal with something like that in his career.
24:44So I'm sure mentally you start to wonder, like,
24:46am I going to be the same player? Am I not?
24:50Chris Przingis doesn't have to worry about that
24:52because he's literally dealt with everything that you can think of.
24:54And he's always come back. OK.
24:56So I think mentally he's really strong.
24:57And he talked spoke to that.
24:59And I was glad that I asked him that question,
25:00even though it wasn't actually the exact thing that I was looking for.
25:03But it went in another direction that was really helpful.
25:08Question here, do you think that Pritchard will play a bigger role
25:10this season slash more minutes?
25:14I think so.
25:16I think that early on we're going to see more rest days and more,
25:19you know, more guys just sitting out different games,
25:22playing more limited minutes.
25:24I think guys like Drew Holiday and Derrick White,
25:26who are healthy and relatively young, are going to all of a sudden play more
25:29because are going to get rest days because they're going to,
25:32you know, they play through the finals.
25:33They played in the Olympics.
25:34Like, I think all of that is going to come into effect.
25:37And so then you might see Peyton Pritchard play a bigger role.
25:41But I think Peyton Pritchard, Sam Houser, like these are guys
25:43that know that ultimately they're going to play the same role
25:46that they've been used to playing.
25:48Like I asked Sam Houser today, like, what's an individual skills thing
25:51that you want to get better at?
25:52And he said, you know, I'm not going to all of a sudden
25:54start doing like ISOs on people, but I might all of a sudden
25:58like have a pump fake that I had or a drive by
26:02in the late shot clock situation.
26:03I might like drive the basket.
26:04So I think Pritchard is not going to come and see like, oh,
26:07new year, new Pritchard.
26:09But I think he's going to refine the things that he's been working on
26:12and might get some increased minutes because of the fact that guys
26:15are going to get some inevitable rest days, I think.
26:19Question here, have I met Jackie McMullin?
26:21I have not, not in person, not, not, not anything like substantial,
26:27but she comes up so often, I feel like people bring her up to me
26:30just because there haven't been like that many female sports reporters.
26:34So I've gotten like a lot of inquiries about that.
26:36But I hope to get to know her more as I continue to do this.
26:41Pete asked, what was my favorite question from another CLNS reporter?
26:45Jack asked a bunch of questions.
26:46I like Jack's theme today.
26:47Jack asked like questions about
26:50just in general, like how much how different things feel this season
26:53from last season.
26:55And he got varying answers to that.
26:57And I think he's working on he may have already published her.
26:59If not, he's working on a story for Harjit Houdini about that.
27:02Because to me, this is my first media day.
27:03So I watched the other one from home.
27:05I was already at Celtics blog,
27:06but I wasn't covering everything in person the way that I am now.
27:10And so this is my first time like experiencing it in person.
27:13But, you know, I think for a lot of reporters, it was like people were like,
27:17wow, vibes were so much better this time than last year.
27:19And I think last year there was a big story of True Holiday and that trade
27:22and obviously losing Rob Williams at the buzzer.
27:25And so there's a lot going on last year's media day.
27:27But I like that that Jack was kind of consistently asking seemingly
27:31everybody that question around kind of last year to this year
27:35and how how different they feel.
27:37And honestly, a very common response was like not that different, actually.
27:42So that was interesting.
27:46A question here, will I be at practice tomorrow?
27:48Yes, I will be at practice for the rest of the week.
27:50So tomorrow, Thursday, Friday and Sunday
27:54and balancing Celtics with WNBA coverage.
27:57So right after this, I'm going to the WNBA stuff and everything.
27:59So I'll be practice. I'll be posting tweets, clips.
28:03I have some articles in the works.
28:04I'm doing a big story on Jalen Brown for tomorrow morning for SBNation.com.
28:07So check that out. But yeah, follow along.
28:09I'll be continuing to post things all year.
28:12And as I mentioned before, I'm also planning on traveling quite a bit, too.
28:15So, yeah, excited for that.
28:17And I appreciate everybody that tunes into this stuff.
28:19This is so fun.
28:22Yeah.
28:27Will Al be starting until Christoph Porzingis returns?
28:32I think so. That would be my understanding.
28:36I mean, there was no discussion of the starting lineup.
28:38I feel like there was always
28:40always like a lot of clarity around like if Porzingis is out or really
28:43if any of the five starters were out last season, Al always filled that role.
28:48And so I've kind of come to assume that, but I don't want to report that
28:51because I wasn't asked today anything about the starting lineup.
28:54I will say I wouldn't be surprised if there are some rest days
28:57where all of a sudden you see Luke, Mimi, Tillman enter the starting lineup
29:01or even a smaller lineup.
29:04Also a possibility, right?
29:06So we'll see.
29:07But one thing that I mentioned that I wanted to mention,
29:10I think Lonnie Walker, when he spoke with NBC Boston today,
29:13I tweeted out a couple of the clips, but he made very clear
29:16like he does not have a guaranteed spot on this team.
29:18He's on an exhibit 10.
29:19I think we have all been really excited and talking a lot about Lonnie Walker,
29:23but we're not sure that's, you know, he's going to pan out with his team.
29:27And I think the uncertainty in the front court is part of the reason why
29:31that they might want to keep that roster spot open,
29:33especially now that I know that two of the players had office
29:35and surgeries that I did not know about.
29:38And so I assume that Al will be starting,
29:41but also nothing is necessarily confirmed.
29:45And that's a good segue to my next question.
29:48Were there any thoughts from Brad or Joe on Lonnie Walker the fourth?
29:53So both of them mentioned him, I believe.
29:55Brad spoke about one thing that stood out, and I tweeted this out,
29:57was Brad mentioned the fact that he had a good,
29:59he has a good relationship with Derek White,
30:01and that he's also worked out with Drew Halladay quite a bit in the offseason.
30:04They've heard good things about him, that obviously he can score.
30:07But nothing substantial on Lonnie Walker.
30:10I wasn't able to glean any insight around whether he is likely to make the team.
30:16You know, obviously, if he doesn't make the team,
30:17he'll probably go to Maine, but he can't be a two-way.
30:20So once he goes to Maine, it's like a lot of different teams
30:23might want to snatch him up or not, you know, I don't know.
30:26But I have not gotten the chance to talk with him
30:29or any of the other exhibit tens.
30:31I am talking to one of his former college teammates tomorrow.
30:34I'm working on a feature on Lonnie Walker.
30:35So trying to kind of put the pieces together.
30:38I'm so curious and so fascinated by like what really happened here
30:41with Lonnie Walker, like why he did not get picked up,
30:45why he didn't get signed by anybody, what the situation is of the exhibit ten.
30:50When he was getting interviewed today by the NBC Sports Boston crew,
30:53a couple of times they asked him about like how he's going to fit
30:55with the team, Mark D'Amico, Kayla Burden, Eddie House.
30:59And he was always like, make sure to add, you know, I'm on an exhibit ten.
31:02So I don't know.
31:03You know, I'm working. I'm just grinding.
31:05Like I'm working twice a day, all day.
31:07He hasn't really explored the city.
31:08He's really been focused on being in the gym, pounding the rock, he said.
31:12And so I think that he wanted to kind of remind them
31:15and everybody else that we're not sure.
31:18Yeah, we're really not sure like what the situation is going to be.
31:21And obviously he's very hopeful, but that he has a long way to go
31:25between an exhibit ten.
31:26There's multiple exhibit ten guys, right?
31:27I think we're all talking about Lonnie Walker,
31:28but none of those guys have any pathway forward guaranteed right now.
31:32I will say somebody like D.J.
31:34Stewart was an exhibit ten guy last year.
31:37He was a standout with the Maine Celtics.
31:39And then D.J.
31:40Stewart had a great summer league, awesome summer league,
31:43was a standout and signed a two way with the Chicago Bulls.
31:45So sometimes it's like, you know, you know, the expression delay, not denied.
31:49Like this is kind of a good use of that.
31:51You know, some of these guys might not get the opportunity this year,
31:54but they're staying in the mix or staying and being in the right places,
31:57talking to the right people.
31:59And they just might get there.
32:00And so but I imagine that we'll hear from some of the exhibit ten guys this week.
32:04And I'm also hoping to speak to Lonnie Walker requested an interview.
32:07So fingers crossed.
32:09We'll see if I can get that.

33:22Awesome, so I'm going to run through the rest of these questions here.
33:27Question about the clean shaven Jalen Brown.
33:30I have to admit, I was talking about this with other guys,
33:33other reporters, and I didn't notice that he shaved.
33:36Like, I actually didn't notice it.
33:38He just looked happy to me.
33:39Maybe he just looks happier without a beard.
33:41But there wasn't like he walked onto the podium like I didn't process it at all.
33:45And then everybody else was talking about it, like how different he looked.
33:47And I was like, wow, because I feel like I've seen Jalen Brown
33:50a million times on TV and in person.
33:52I'm surprised I didn't notice. But, yeah.
33:57Question here, I wonder if the Celtics will do an all-woman broadcast again.
34:01Really enjoyed Dijon on the call that one game.
34:03Yeah, that was awesome.
34:05I purposefully watched that game from home and I got to watch Dijon
34:09and Abby and the rest of the crew, and it was great.
34:12And yeah, I imagine that they'll do it again.
34:15I'm not I haven't heard anything about it, but I will just plug Dijon
34:19Carrington is also a WNBA player.
34:21Connecticut Sun star, I might add, and she'll be playing tomorrow
34:25and I'll have all the coverage on that for SB Nation.
34:28She's an all defense candidate and most player candidate.
34:32Really, really a fun player to watch.
34:34I am not supposed to pick favorites, but she is one of my favorite
34:36WNBA players to watch.
34:37So feel free to plug into that.
34:42Oh, thank you. I'm sorry about the mic.
34:44Feel free always to tell me if you guys can't hear me well.
34:47I get a little distracted sometimes with keeping the keeping the mic close.
34:52Tom, this is a great point.
34:54So Tom here writes, I wonder if Derek White is excited to play
34:56with Lonnie Walker against first fans always like the White Walker backcourt.
35:00I should have asked him about that.
35:03I asked him about the Olympics, but that was that would have been a good question.
35:06So hopefully we get to hear from Derek again this week,
35:08because I am curious on his perspective
35:10and if he might be able to offer some more insight on kind of like
35:12what is going on with Lonnie Walker and what the situation is.
35:17But yeah, I mean, it's something that Brad spoke to right away.
35:19He said like that they have that relationship.
35:21I think that they spoke right away.
35:23Someone here asks, why wasn't Payton there?
35:26Payton just wasn't one of the players that spoke with the full media conglomerate today.
35:31Jaden Springer didn't either.
35:33Xavier Tillman didn't.
35:35The 2A's didn't, the rookies didn't, the Exhibit 10's didn't.
35:38So we got a lot more to go.
35:40I thought like all 14 guys were going to speak, all 17 guys potentially.
35:44So it was certainly a little bit less than what I expected.
35:47But Payton Pritchard did speak with the NBC Sports Boston team.
35:51With the NBC Sports Boston crew.
35:53So if you want to see that full interview, it was like 10 minutes long.
35:59You can see that.
36:00I also will plug, last week I had my dad on
36:04and Dana Altman, Payton Pritchard's college coach.
36:06And we talked a little bit about Payton Pritchard's journey to the NBA.
36:10So if you are looking for some Pritchard content,
36:12check that out if you haven't already.
36:17And I'm going to take last question here,
36:19were the Stylianos crew gifted Tatum 3's?
36:22Could be in the works, haven't received anything yet.
36:24But we'll certainly post and let you guys know if I do.
36:28But yeah, they look pretty cool.
36:29I got the email today about kind of the different designs and everything.
36:32So I posted it on Twitter.
36:34I'm not like a huge shoe person.
36:36I have the Sabrina Inescu's for basketball shoes.
36:38They're really comfortable.
36:40Although I do sprain my ankle a lot, but I don't think it's her fault.
36:44But yeah, I think that the new designs look really cool, the colorways.
36:47And I think Jalen Brown, possibly he's already announced.
36:50Any minute now, I think he might announce something.
36:52He alluded to it a couple of times today.
36:56In any case, that's all the questions for today.
36:58I want to just add how grateful I am for all of you
37:01for tuning in all off-season and how excited
37:03I am to be doing this again for a second season
37:06and to be able to cover basketball full time.
37:08I'm doing this for the WNBA with SB Nation.
37:11Please subscribe to You Got Boston, to CLNS.
37:14I'll have more coverage tomorrow.
37:16I'll probably go live again tomorrow from the Mohegan Center arena.
37:19I'll talk a little bit about Celtics practice
37:21and then also preview some Connecticut Sun, Indiana Fever things as well.
37:25But yeah, thanks so much, everybody.
37:26Really appreciate it.
37:27Sorry if my mic was too far for too much of this.
37:30And we'll be back very soon.
37:31And I also know in a couple of hours, the Garden Report crew
37:34is going to do their media day take.
37:36So tune into that if you want more Celtics content from CLNS.
37:41Have a great rest of your night, everybody.
