00:00In Palestine, the Israeli Occupation Army has killed over 45,500 Palestinians since
00:16it began its genocidal operation against Gaza.
00:22In South Korea, more than 68,000 flight reservations have been cancelled after the plane crash
00:27that left at least 179 people dead.
00:33In Argentina, President Javier Mele renewed for the second time the 2023 general budget
00:38to be used for the fiscal year 2025.
00:46Hello and welcome from the south, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Lesos studios in Havana,
00:50Cuba.
00:51We begin with the news.
01:10The Israeli Occupation Army has killed over 45,500 Palestinians since it began its genocidal
01:16operation against the Gaza Strip in October 2023.
01:19Health authorities added that the Israeli aggression has left more than 108,000 people
01:24injured, most of them children, women and the elderly.
01:27Emergency services in Gaza warn that they are still unable to reach many victims and
01:32corpses trapped under the rubble or scattered along the roads of the coastal enclave.
01:37At the same time, Israeli troops continue to block the entry of humanitarian aid and
01:41the movement of civil defense teams.
01:49In this context, during the last 450 days of Israel's genocidal campaign against Palestinians
01:54in Gaza, Israel has used 88,000 tons of explosives against Palestinians.
02:00The Gaza Information Office reported that the Israeli regime has carried out 9,973 massacres
02:06in the Gaza Strip since last October 2023.
02:15On Monday, Palestinian medical sources reported the death of one-month-old Ali al-Batran at
02:21Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital due to the cold weather.
02:24He is the twin brother of the baby Yuma al-Batran, who died on Sunday due to the low temperatures
02:30in a tent in Deir al-Bala in central Gaza.
02:33The enclave's government media office said that the death toll due to the bitter cold
02:37and frost among displaced Palestinians is an intense increase to seven, a number that
02:42is expected to rise as the authority added heavy rains are expected to continue in the
02:49coming days, as well as frost waves and winter cold.
02:52In this context, Palestinian authorities hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for
02:56the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as the U.S. administration
03:01and the countries that support and participate in the genocide such as the United Kingdom,
03:05Germany, and France.
03:12What is their future?
03:13This child stopped going to school and the others also stopped going to school.
03:16There are no schools.
03:17What future do these children have?
03:19What is their fault?
03:20Because of the cold and lack of blankets and bedding, the child died because of the cold,
03:26from the cold.
03:27This tent is not suitable for living in.
03:29Living in this tent is like living on the street.
03:34Palestinian relatives of the director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital, Hussam Abu Zafiyah,
03:38demanded his release after being captured by Israeli troops last Friday.
03:42According to family members and colleagues, the Israeli regime accused the doctor of being
03:46a Hamas agent and insists he must therefore be interrogated.
03:51The complainants stressed that Abu Zafiyah was forced to undress and was then beaten
03:56with an electric cable before being taken to an unknown location.
04:01Police believe that the doctor became a target of the Zionist regime after publishing videos
04:04in recent weeks giving details of the situation in the hospital where he worked, which is
04:09currently unable to reopen due to the Israeli siege.
04:17Meanwhile, displaced Gazans living in tents hope to see an end to the war that has devastated
04:23their territory and wish to return home in 2025 after a truly painful year.
04:312024 was the most difficult year.
04:34I lost many loved ones, including my father and friends, since the beginning of the year.
04:39I hope the new year will be much better, filled with peace, goodness and stability.
04:45I wish for the return of security and safety and for the war to end.
04:52I want you to convey my message to the free and humane world, exert pressure on Netanyahu
04:57to finalize a prisoner exchange deal, to free our courageous prisoners from the Israeli
05:02occupation's prisons, and to allow displaced people to return to their homes.
05:07A bond that the United Nations Security Council will address recent escalation between Israel
05:14and Yemen amid warnings of growing regional instability.
05:17Tel Aviv delegation called for the meeting just five days after Israeli air raids on
05:22Sana'a International Airport, Red Sea ports and Yemeni power stations.
05:26Following last Thursday's bombings, the UN body confirmed numerous casualties, including
05:30at least three dead and several wounded UN workers.
05:34The attack on the airport took place while World Health Organization Chief Tedros Adhanom
05:39Kerbiasus was on site.
05:47Now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on Tiktok at TELUS

05:55We'll be right back, stay with us.
06:16Welcome back.
06:17In South Korea, more than 68,000 flight reservations have been cancelled in the last hours after
06:22the plane crash that left at least 179 people dead on Sunday.
06:27Management support center of the South Korean airline Jeju Air has announced that cancelled
06:32tickets are split between 33,000 domestic passengers and more than 35,000 internationals.
06:38The company also reported on an accident where, after an alleged landing gear failure during
06:42take-off, more than 20 passengers out of a total of 161 refused to board a replacement
06:48Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
06:51South Korea's Jeju Air suffered a fall of more than 88 percent on the Seoul Stock Exchange
06:57following the world's worst civil aviation accident in 2024, for which families of the
07:02victims are seeking the airline's compensation.
07:13The only way for bereaved families to feel that Jeju Air has done everything it can is
07:18to help bereaved families financially.
07:22Why?
07:22Because a head of a family passed away, parents of a family passed away.
07:28There are only kids left and how can they live on their own?
07:32This is something neither the province officials nor the government can help with.
07:39The plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Labour Party concluded in North Korea
07:43after taking stock of the successes achieved in the country during the year 2024.
07:48The meeting was led by Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea,
07:53and was attended by full members as well as deputies and officials of the party's Central
07:57Committee.
07:58During the expanded meeting, the need to take drastic measures to overcome the negative
08:03elements hindering the normal development of the state and to work out a plan of struggle
08:07to implement the resolution of the 2025 party congress for the eighth term of the party's
08:12Central Committee was emphasized.
08:19And in the Chinese Autonomous Region of Xinjiang, tunneling was completed on Monday for the
08:26Tianshan Chengli Tunnel, the world's longest expressway tunnel built through the challenging
08:30mountains.
08:31The project is a key phase of the Urumqi Yuli Expressway and opens a new link between the
08:37region's southern and northern parts, reducing the driving time across the middle section
08:42of the Tianshan Mountains from several hours to about 20 minutes once operational.
08:48The construction of the 22.13-kilometer tunnel, which began in April 2020, has faced several
08:54challenges such as extreme colds, strong cyclone activity, and strict environmental requirements.
09:00The expressway is expected to be fully completed and open to traffic in 2025.
09:10A Northwest India farmers' protest led to the cancellation of more than 150 trains and
09:15roadblocks on dozens of highways.
09:18Local media reported that hundreds of farmers are rallying in 20 districts of Punjab state
09:23known as the breadbasket of India.
09:27Demonstration was also accompanied by a strike which has caused the closure of stores and
09:32factories all over Punjab.
09:34Members of two major agricultural unions demand that the central government comply with legal
09:40guarantees to fix a minimum price for their crops, pensions for farmers, and the clearing
09:45of charges against several demonstrators.
09:52An Ethiopian authorities reported that a truck plummeted into a river which caused at least
09:5871 deaths and others injured in the southern Sidama region, Bona district.
10:02The Sidama Police Commission Traffic Prevention and Control Directorate confirmed that 68
10:07men and three women lost their lives.
10:09The regional communications office indicated Sunday that survivors were being treated at
10:15the Bona General Hospital.
10:16Meanwhile, the region's traffic police stressed that the truck was overloaded, which probably
10:21triggered the crash.
10:29Meanwhile, in South Africa, the National Joint Operations and Intelligence Structure described
10:34as complex Monday's ongoing operation to rescue illegal minors in Stiltfontein.
10:39In a communique, the government authorities point out that the death of the minors is
10:44one of the aspects that directly affects the way the work is carried out, adding that the
10:48rescue team recommended that the necessary resources and experience be acquired, taking
10:52into account the practicality and risks involved.
10:55It is estimated that several hundred illegal minors remain in the mine to avoid arrest,
11:00as a result of a police operation aimed at eliminating this phenomenon, which is not
11:05only damaging the country's economy, but is also a security problem for communities.
11:14And the German government accused Elon Musk of trying to influence the national election
11:18after the tech billionaire called Chancellor Olaf Scholz an incompetent fool and backed
11:23the country's far-right Alternative for Germany party.
11:30It is indeed the case that Elon Musk is trying to influence the federal election through
11:34his statements.
11:39As I said, he is free to express his opinion.
11:45One does not have to share this opinion now.
11:49I think it's good to point out once again in principle that a voting recommendation
11:53is being made here for a party that is being monitored by the office for the protection
11:57of the constitution on suspicion of being right-wing extremist.
12:04And that has already been recognized as being right-wing extremist in parts.
12:11Belgian authorities announced the ban selling disposable vapes as of January 1st because
12:16of health and environmental grounds.
12:18Belgium takes the lead by pursuing such measures for the sake of youngsters' health.
12:23The policy is part of a national anti-tobacco plan which aims at reaching a tobacco-free
12:29generation by 2040.
12:32Currently, younger users are prone to use the e-cigarettes for their variety of flavors.
12:37Nonetheless, experts argue vapes still contain nicotine and describe them as equally addictive
12:43as traditional tobacco cigarettes.
12:51I use it to try and give up smoking a bit because I smoke cigarettes.
12:54But I think it's good that they're stopping the sale because there are a lot of young
12:58people who don't necessarily think about the consequences when they start.
13:02The Alliance for a Tobacco-Free Society is very pleased with this ban on the sale of
13:11puffs, both for the environmental impact that these disposable electronic cigarettes have
13:16because every time they are sold, a huge amount of waste is produced, but also to protect
13:20young people, given that puffs are mainly consumed by young people.

14:01Welcome back.
14:02The President of Argentina, Javier Mele, renewed for the second time the 2023 general budget
14:08to be used for the fiscal year 2025.
14:11The program extended one more time, but it was the last budget approved during Alberto
14:15Fernandez's administration.
14:16The decision to use a two-year old budget for the year 2025 is part of Javier Mele's
14:21budget cuts, which have already caused the dismissal of more than 36,000 state employees,
14:26urgently seeking to reduce state deficits to zero.
14:30Experts are sure that with an outdated budget, which does not reflect the latest inflationary
14:35trends, Mele's government will have to promote new adjustments and layoffs in the public
14:39administration.
14:45In Mexico, 11 clandestine graves containing the bodies of 15 men have been found in Chiapas,
14:51the site of a dispute between the Sinaloa and Jalisco drug cartels.
14:55The discovery was made during an operation in the city of La Concordia, on the border
15:00between Mexico and Guatemala.
15:01In addition, four people were arrested with drugs and firearms.
15:05The state prosecutor's office reported that the operation was carried out in two different
15:09properties.
15:10In the first one, three bodies were found in three graves, and in the other one, 12
15:14bodies were found in eight graves.
15:17The conflict over drug routes, migrants, and arms trafficking has displaced more than 10,000
15:22people in recent years, including Mexicans who have fled to Guatemala.
15:31The communications division of the government of Trinidad and Tobago issued a communique
15:35on Monday declaring a state of emergency due to increased criminal activity.
15:39In this regard, the official communication states that, pursuant to Section 8 of the
15:44Constitution of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Her Excellency Christine Carla Cangalo,
15:49Order of the Republic, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and Commander-in-Chief,
15:56as on the advice of the Honorable Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of the Republic, declared a
16:01state of public emergency.
16:03The communique further specifies that the circumstances warranting the declaration of
16:07a public emergency are based on the advice of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
16:13due to the National Security Council's heightened criminal activity, which endangers public
16:18safety.
16:19Over the last month or so, and in fact building up to this, the government has been concerned
16:30about the use of high-powered illegal firearms, high-caliber firearms, including automatic
16:37weapons that unfortunately are scourged throughout the whole Caribbean region, and due to the
16:44high-velocity and high-caliber weapons, the 5.56 and the 7.62-caliber weapons, you're
16:50seeing that when the miscreants in our society, the criminal element, are utilizing these
16:56types of weapons, the AR-15s, the AK-47s, and indiscriminately shooting at persons,
17:04sometimes missing their targets and hitting innocent bystanders, there is very little
17:10chance of survival due to the velocity and the caliber of these weapons.
17:15This has been a major concern, not only for us here in Trinidad and Tobago,
17:19but throughout the whole CARICOM region.
17:36In Bolivia, authorities maintain the state of emergency and alert as a result of
17:40the rainy season in the city of La Paz. Paseños Municipal Council approved a
17:44territorial law in the face of the emergency, a preventive regulation supported unanimously
17:49by the councilmen to face the disasters that may occur due to the rains. Likewise,
17:54the entity urged civil protection to take actions for the cleaning and maintenance of drains.
17:59In this regard, Municipal Mayor Ivan Arias stressed that economic and logistical resources
18:04are being mobilized in order to face the rainy season.
18:11The Panamanian authorities issue a warning of surveillance grounded in steady rainfalls,
18:16which will continue until the end of 2024. The National Civil Protection System advanced that
18:22the storm would batter several provinces with rainfalls and thunderstorms, and so the entity
18:27called for complying with the said preventive measures. The Institute of Meteorology and
18:31Hydrology announced that the weather conditions correspond to the intratropical convergent sun
18:36and low-pressure systems, which will produce winds with high humidity. Authorities urged
18:42people to keep posted to avoid crossing rivers or creeks and to stay away from areas vulnerable
18:48to landslides. In Mayotte, city workers cleaned up the streets of the capital of Mamutsu after
18:58Cyclone Chido hit the territory in mid-December. After the passage of Cyclone Chido, several
19:02villages of the capital of Mayotte were flooded with all kinds of vegetation and household waste,
19:08but after two weeks, the cleaning of the streets has begun with about 200 agents and 100 companies.
19:14From 7 a.m. local time, several main streets in the center of Mamutsu were closed to traffic
19:20to facilitate the passage of the cleaning teams. However, residents are skeptical about the work
19:25being done, claiming it is due to the visit of French Prime Minister François Bayrou.
19:32Yes, I think that's an objective. If we know how to take all the necessary decisions, that's a goal we have to set ourselves.
19:48So you say that there are lots of people who say it won't be possible.
19:52They may be right, but I know this category well. They're the ones who say we should give up.
19:58They're the ones who say it's not the same as Notre-Dame. And God knows there have been some.
20:04And we believe, I believe, and we do believe, that we're here precisely to prove fate wrong.
20:11We're here precisely so that people don't stop at what seems possible.
20:28In Myanmar, ethnic Karen people, also known as Kajin, are celebrating the traditional New Year as the 2024 ends for them on December 30th.
20:37For the event, members of the community engage in activities such as dancing, singing, and praying
20:41for a good harvest in Pa'an, capital of the Karen state. These activities are part of their public
20:48holiday to wait for the Kajin New Year at Myanmar's National Races Village. The public holiday has been
20:54celebrated in Myanmar since 2009, allowing for the numerous Karen communities to join
21:01and celebrate their unique cultural identity.
