00:00In Palestine, the Israeli occupation army had killed over 45,500 Palestinians since
00:16it began its genocidal operation against Gaza.
00:20In South Korea, more than 68,000 lives of reservations have been downed so far after
00:27a terrorist attack that left at least 179 people dead.
00:34And in Venezuela, the Supreme Court of Justice imposed a 10 million US dollar fine against
00:40tech company TikTok, which is a platform in the region in allowing the broadcasting of
00:45vital content.
00:52Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:53I'm Alejandra Garcia from Tel Aviv Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:56We begin with the news.
01:14The Israeli occupation army has killed over 45,500 Palestinians since it began its genocidal
01:21operation against the Gaza Strip in October 2023.
01:25Health authorities added that the Israeli oppression has left more than 108,000 people
01:31injured, most of them children, women and the elderly.
01:34Emergency services in Gaza warn that they are still unable to reach many veterans and
01:39corpses trapped under the rubble or started along the roads of the coastal enclave.
01:44At the same time, Israeli troops continue to block the entry of humanitarian aid and
01:49the movement of civilians from Israel.
01:55On Monday, Palestinian medical services reported the death of one-month-old Ali Al-Bashan at
02:03Al-Aqsa Mosque hospital due to difficult weather.
02:06He is the twin brother of the baby's mother, Al-Bashan, who died on Sunday due to the low
02:12temperatures in a tent in Beralbala in central Gaza.
02:16The Israeli government media outlet said that the death toll due to the bitter cold
02:21and frost among displaced Palestinians living in France increased to 57, a number that is
02:27expected to rise further as the hostilities added that events are expected to continue
02:32in the coming days, as well as crossroads and winter cold.
02:36In this context, Palestinian authorities hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible
02:41for the recent deterioration of human-regarding situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as the
02:46U.S. administration and the countries that support and participate in the genocide,
02:51such as the United Kingdom, Germany and France.
02:59What is their future?
03:00This child stopped going to school and the others also stopped going to school.
03:03There are no schools.
03:04What future do these children have?
03:05What is their future?
03:06What is their future?
03:09Because of the cold and lack of blankets and bedding, the child died because of the cold
03:13from the cold.
03:14This tent is not suitable for living in.
03:16Living in this tent is like living on the street.
03:22Meanwhile, displaced Gazans living in France hope to see an end to the war that has devastated
03:29their country and wish to return home in 2025 after a three-week change in view.
03:372024 was the most difficult year.
03:39I lost many loved ones, including my father and son, since the beginning of the year.
03:45I hope the new year will be much better, filled with peace, goodness and stability.
03:51I wish for the return of security and safety and for the war to end.
03:58I want you to convey my message to the free and humane world.
04:01I want you to exert pressure on Netanyahu to finalize a prisoner exchange deal to free
04:06our courageous prisoners from the Israeli-occupation prison and to allow displaced people to return
04:11to their homes.
04:15Iran's foreign minister also condemned the Haitian-Chinese attacks in Yemen during a
04:20joint press conference with the counterparts in Oman.
04:23The Islamic Republic of Iran condemned military strikes by the Zionist regime and the U.S.
04:31against the Yemeni soil and the destruction of its infrastructure.
04:39We emphasize on the preservation of Yemen's territorial integrity and we hope that peace
04:43talks are resumed as soon as possible
04:45so that we can stop conspiracies to start a new civil war in Yemen.
04:58In this context, the Iranian minister also called for the formation of an inclusive government
05:02in Syria.
05:05Regarding Syria, we had an extensive discussion about the developments in that country.
05:11We shared the idea of preservation of Syria's territorial integrity, no intervention in
05:19Syria's domestic affairs, respecting all ethnicities and religions and observing their
05:24rights, and the formation of an inclusive government consisting of all Syrian ethnicities
05:30and groups.
05:33And now we have a short break coming up, but first remember you can join us on Tiktok
05:37at Felicity English for useful news in different formats, news updates and more.
05:41We'll be right back after the break.
05:56Welcome back from the South.
05:58In South Korea, more than 68,000 flight reservations have been cancelled in the last hours after
06:04the plane crash that left at least 179 people dead on Sunday.
06:09The management support center of the South Korean airline Jeju Air has announced that
06:14the cancelled tickets are split between 33,000 domestic passengers and more than 35,000 internationals.
06:22The company also reported on an incident where after an alleged landing gear failure during
06:28take-off, more than 20 passengers out of a total of 161 refused to board a replacement
06:35Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
06:38South Korea's Jeju Air suffered a fall of more than 8% of the Seoul stock exchange following
06:45the world's worst civil aviation accident in 2024, for which families of the victims
06:51are seeking the airline's compensation.
06:59The only way for bereaved families to feel that Jeju Air has done everything it can,
07:06is to help bereaved families financially.
07:09Why? Because a head of a family passed away, parents of a family passed away.
07:16There are only kids left and how can they live on their own?
07:20This is something neither the province officials nor the government can help with.
07:26In the Chinese Autonomous Region of Tianjin, tunneling was completed on Monday for the
07:33Tianshan-Shenli Tunnel, the world's longest expressway tunnel built through challenging
07:39mountains.
07:40The project is a key phase of the Uromoki-Juli Expressway and opens a new link between the
07:46region's southern and northern parts, reducing the driving time across the middle section
07:51of the Tianshan Mountains from several hours to about 20 minutes once operational.
07:56The construction of the 22.13 km tunnel, which began in April 2020, has faced several challenges
08:05such as extreme cold, strong seismic activity and strict environmental requirements.
08:10The expressway is expected to be fully completed and open to traffic in 2025.
08:17The German government accused Elon Musk of trying to influence the national election
08:23after the tech billionaire called Chancellor Olaf Scholz an incompetent fool and backed
08:29the country's far-right Alternative for Germany party.
08:33It is indeed the case that Elon Musk is trying to influence the federal election through
08:39his statements.
08:41As I said, he is free to express his opinion.
08:46One does not have to share this opinion now.
08:50I think it's good to point out once again in principle that a voting recommendation
08:55is being made here for a party that is being monitored by the office for the protection
09:00of the constitution on suspicion of being right-wing extremist.
09:05And that has already been recognized as being right-wing extremist in parts.
09:11Belgian authorities announced the ban selling disposable vapes as of January 1st because
09:17of health and environmental grounds.
09:19Belgium takes the lead by pursuing such measures for the sake of youngsters' health.
09:24The policy is part of a national anti-tobacco plan and is a part of the European Commission
09:30for the sake of youngsters' health.
09:32The policy is part of a national anti-tobacco plan which aims at reaching a tobacco-free
09:37generation by 2040.
09:39Currently, younger users are prone to use e-cigarettes for their variety of flavors.
09:45Nonetheless, experts argue that vapes still contain nicotine and describe them as equally
09:51addictive as traditional tobacco or cigarettes.
09:55I use it to try and give up smoking a bit, because I smoke cigarettes.
09:59But I think it's good that they're stopping the sale, because there are a lot of young
10:02people who don't necessarily think about the consequences when they start.
10:11The Alliance for a Tobacco-Free Society is very pleased with this ban on the sale of
10:16puffs, both for the environmental impact that these disposable electronic cigarettes have
10:21because every time they are sold, a huge amount of waste is produced, but also to protect
10:26young people, given that puffs are mainly consumed by young people.
10:52Fun and showbreak, don't go away!
11:04Welcome back to From the South.
11:05The Supreme Court of Justice of Venezuela imposed on Monday a US$10 million fine against
11:11TikTok due to the platform's negligence in allowing the broadcasting and dissemination
11:16of viral challenges that have seriously damaged the country's population.
11:20Precisely, the ruling by the Court's Constitutional Chamber stressed the company's negligence
11:25in failing to implement the necessary measures to avoid the dissemination of publications
11:31with content alluding to viral challenges in violation of the Venezuelan legal system.
11:37The Court also specified the creation of a TikTok Victims Fund with money from the fine
11:44aimed at compensating the psychological, emotional and physical damages infringed
11:49to the affected users and their families.
11:59The ruling imposes on the company TikTok a fine equivalent to US$10 million
12:07to be paid to the National Telecommunications Commission within eight days,
12:14following the publication of this decision on the Supreme Court's website.
12:19To prevent broadcasting posts whose content alludes to the so-called viral challenges.
12:41The Communications Division of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago issued a communique
12:45on Monday declaring a state of emergency due to increased criminal activity.
12:50In this regard, the official communication states that,
12:53pursuant to Section 8 of the Constitution of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago,
12:58Her Excellency Christine Carla Candalu, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
13:04and Commander-in-Chief, has, on the advice of Dr. The Honorable Keith Rowley,
13:09Prime Minister of the Republic, declared a state of public emergency.
13:14The communique further specifies that the circumstances warranting the declaration of the public emergency
13:20are based on the advice of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service
13:24to the National Security Council of Hated Criminal Activity, which endangers the public safety.
13:35Over the last month or so, and in fact building up to this,
13:39the government has been concerned about the use of high-powered illegal firearms,
13:45high-caliber firearms, including automatic weapons,
13:49that unfortunately are scourged throughout the whole Caribbean region.
13:54And due to the high-velocity and high-caliber weapons,
13:57the 5.56 and the 7.62 caliber weapons,
14:01you're seeing that when the miscreants in our society,
14:05the criminal element, are utilizing these types of weapons,
14:09the AR-15s, the AK-47s,
14:12and indiscriminately shooting at persons,
14:16sometimes missing their targets and hitting innocent bystanders,
14:20there is very little chance of survival due to the velocity and the caliber of these weapons.
14:26This has been a major concern, not only for us here in Trinidad and Tobago,
14:30but throughout the whole CARICOM region.
14:35The President of Argentina, Javier Millet,
14:37renewed for a second time the 2023 general budget to be used for the fiscal year 2025.
14:43The government extended one more time what was the last budget approved
14:47during Alberto Fernández's administration.
14:50The decision to use a two-year-old budget for the year 2025
14:54is part of Javier Millet's budget cuts,
14:56which have already caused the dismissal of more than 36,000 state employees,
15:02allegedly seeking to reduce the state deficit to zero.
15:05Experts assure that with an outdated budget,
15:08which does not reflect the latest inflationary trends,
15:12Millet's government will have to promote new adjustments and layoffs in the public administration.
15:33In Bolivia, authorities maintain the state of emergency and threat alert
15:37as a result of the rainy season in the city of La Paz.
15:41Paseño's municipal council approved a territorial law
15:44in the face of the emergency,
15:46a preventive regulation supported unanimously by the council
15:50meant to face the disasters that may occur due to rains.
15:54Likewise, the entity urged civil protection
15:57to take actions for the cleaning and maintenance of drains.
16:00In this regard, municipal mayor Iván Arias stressed
16:03that economic and logistical resources are being mobilized
16:07in order to face the rainy season.
16:13Panamanian authorities issued a warning of surveillance
16:16grounded in steady rainfalls,
16:18which will continue until the end of 2024.
16:21The National Civil Protection System, SINAPROG,
16:24advanced that the storm will batter several provinces with rainfall
16:29and thunderstorms,
16:31and so the entity called for complying with the said preventive measures.
16:36The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology announced
16:39that the weather conditions correspond to the intertropical convergence,
16:43zone and low pressure system,
16:45which will produce winds with high humidity.
16:48Authorities urged people to keep posted
16:51to avoid crossing rivers or creeks
16:54and to stay away from areas vulnerable to landslides.
16:59Yes, I think that's an objective.
17:05If we know how to take all the necessary decisions,
17:08that's a goal we have to set ourselves.
17:11So you say that there are lots of people who say it won't be possible.
17:15They may be right, but I know this category well.
17:18They're the ones who say we should give up.
17:21They're the ones who say it's not the same as Notre Dame.
17:25And God knows there have been some.
17:28And we believe, I believe and we do believe
17:31that we're here precisely to prove fate wrong.
17:34We're here precisely so that people don't stop at what seems possible.
17:38We're here precisely so that we don't stop.
18:09and the capital of the current state.
18:11These activities are part of their public holiday
18:14to wait for the coming new year at Myanmar's national racist village.
18:18The public holiday has been celebrated in Myanmar since 2009,
18:22allowing the numerous current communities to join
18:25and celebrate their unique cultural identity.
