Motorway Cops Catching Britains Speeders S07E03 (21st April 2025)
Transcript
00:00In Newcastle, PC Andy Clark has the rider of an illegal bike under arrest for suspected
00:20drug driving.
00:21Positive for cocaine and cannabis.
00:23PC Mark Crammond is guilty of a lesser charge.
00:28Impersonating a motorbike.
00:33I wonder if he makes those noises every time he sees a motorbike.
00:40Just needed a little bit of go faster power to get up the ramp.
00:48Bad drivers, beware.
00:51If the cops don't catch you, dashcam will.
00:55Over 25,000 traffic convictions a year, down to your cameras.
00:59Britain's deadliest drivers have nowhere left to hide.
01:05Here we go.
01:08And, on the front line...
01:10It's contact.
01:12...are our motorway cops.
01:14Are we going?
01:15Why aye, of course we're gunning.
01:17We join Northumbria Police.
01:19You're not getting a selfie with us, no.
01:21I've just took your car off you.
01:22...as they chase down dangerous drivers.
01:25Runner.
01:26Mate, you're all bladded.
01:27You've had a drink, haven't you?
01:28I've had two.
01:29...and get the worst offenders.
01:30Did they do what I've just done with the soup, Kennedy?
01:33But I nearly got away.
01:34Nearly got away, but you didn't.
01:36Off our roads.
01:37Do you know how I've been called?
01:39Yeah.
01:40Anything I do see may be given in evidence, Mr Officer.
01:44Helping them in their battle with idiots behind the wheel...
01:48...is dashcam.
01:49Have you seen the dashcam footage?
01:51It's vital evidence...
01:52...to your drift there.
01:54...and proof...
01:55...that Britain's dumbest drivers...
01:57...are a law unto themselves.
02:01Police one from nil.
02:14Vehicle stop.
02:15Tonight.
02:16Get on the car!
02:17Get on the car!
02:18Get on the car!
02:19The passenger of a stolen car.
02:21There's a wedding suit in the back of there.
02:23Can you get a bus?
02:24Faces a race to the altar.
02:26When's the wedding life?
02:27What?
02:28Do you have insurance?
02:31For this car.
02:32No.
02:33A driver without a leg to stand on...
02:35I can't bend that knee.
02:36It doesn't stop me using a clutch, does it?
02:38...has no desire to flee the scene.
02:42I'm not f***ing down and running away, am I?
02:43I'm a f*** kid, I'm not designed to run.
02:46...and a speeding student...
02:48He's flying in.
02:50...fails his roadside law exam.
02:53What legislation you been studying?
02:55Do you know what legislation is?
02:59What do you mean by law?
03:01You're not studying law, are you?
03:13In their fight to rid the roads of crime, Northumbria's motorway cops have a glut of gadgets at their disposal.
03:20This is the ANPR unit, basically a TV screen, but it doesn't show loose women.
03:27It shows any vehicles that we drive past, if it's of note, we'll get an alert on there.
03:33Over here is what's called a matrix board, and it's got various messages which we can put on to notify motorists.
03:41If I could program anything into this, it would probably be like, stop driving like a clown.
03:45PC Martin Anderson's riding solo, but he will have some company.
03:50Alarm monitoring active.
03:53This lady who is on what we call the stack, she tells us whether a car's got no insurance, whether it's got no tax.
04:01She is part of the team.
04:02I'm hoping she's going to come on the Christmas night out, to be honest, because we'll listen to her probably more than me own wife.
04:08It's a lovely day, and we're going to go and police the streets and see what naughty cars we can get off the road.
04:25My parents were born and bred in Sunderland, so it's an area I'm really familiar with.
04:30I support the football team. It's probably helped me out in life by building resilience.
04:34I don't get disappointed by things anymore, because I've had a lifetime of disappointment to support the Sunderland.

05:44MUSIC CONTINUES

05:47The vehicle's now being sighted on the felon bypass. It's heading east. They are running around in a stolen mortar. What else are they up to? Are they using this to facilitate other crimes? There could be stuff in the car that they don't want us to get hold of. So they will not want to stop for us.

07:44are closing in on suspected stolen bmw
07:47firearms they've got a stinger site set up so we're just going to get over there because if it does
07:59fail to stop following it being stung we'll be in a position to pursue it and bring it to a safe
08:04conclusion hopefully
08:05stinger site there with the car stopped at a busy junction the cops strike and sting its tires

10:10Get on the car!
10:12Get on the car!
10:14Get on the car!
10:16I'm only broadcasting a car
10:18I'm only broadcasting a car
10:20I'll be vehicle stopped, two occupants detained to injury
10:26The car's been reported stolen
10:30You tell me, right?
10:32So at this moment in time you're arrested
10:34Can you leave go of it?
10:36Is he in our detention?
10:38I can't let go of you
10:40That was a handcuffs on?
10:42People run off with handcuffs on me
10:44Ben's just confirmed that it is Yeltsin
10:48Oh, so it's confirmed stolen then?
10:50We've identified the car to be stolen
10:52In a burglary, I think, down in Middlesbrough
10:54They'll all have to come in then, won't they?
10:56Aye
11:06Hi mate
11:08We'll have to leave everything as it is
11:10Why?
11:11Because it's a stolen car
11:12Well I appreciate what you're saying
11:14But the problem we've got is that because it's been reported stolen
11:16We don't know whether that belongs to the people that own the car
11:20Well, when am I going to get it back?
11:21I need it for it
11:22Tomorrow
11:23When's the wedding like?
11:24Tomorrow
11:25Right
11:26Mate, I've just literally bought it from the medical center
11:27Right, okay
11:28Receiving everything's in the bag
11:32There's a beard here
11:34Nice
11:35£163
11:36If it is proven that it is, you can get it at a later date
11:40But you might be going to where they went tomorrow
11:43In his best custody tracksuit, I think
11:45Grey joggers and grey jumper
11:46Fantastic result, two locked up
11:51And we've got the car recovered
11:53With very, very minimal damage to the police car
11:55So, I can't say better than that
11:57Just a couple of little scratches
11:59Which are still going to run
12:00Ready for the next one?
12:01So it's 23
12:03We've got time for at least another two, yes
12:05See you later
12:07See you later
12:09I'm over the moon
12:32It was excellent teamwork
12:34Battled off us for tea and medals now
12:36It wasn't a bad suit actually
12:38Very bright, very summery
12:40So he's obviously got a bit of an eye for fashion, that lad
12:43It's just a shame he hasn't got an eye for
12:45Who he gets in a car with
12:57To check the car over
12:59Make sure I haven't got any major issues with it
13:01You don't want to be in the middle of nowhere
13:03And realise that
13:04You've got a defect
13:05PC Jamie Leslie's been a cop for 14 years
13:09But there's still plenty in the tank
13:11I've come close to running out of petrol
13:13But it's never happened to me
13:14My sergeant did once
13:16And he had to pull over and run to a grade one
13:18Which was about a mile and a half away
13:20I don't know if I would do it
13:21Maybe he's just
13:22Get an Uber or something like that
13:24It's in good working order
13:26We shouldn't break down anywhere
13:28Fingers crossed
13:29Tango 1050
13:33Can you just put us on Tango 19?
13:35Tango 19
13:44Today's patch
13:45Covers an area of the North East
13:47Jamie was destined to patrol
13:49The coast road on the A to Z shows up as the A 10 58
13:55Which ironically is my collar number
13:57Which does get quite confusing at times
13:59When you start hearing people doing checks on it
14:01And you think
14:02Why is my number being brought up
14:04But talking about it
14:05He has burning
14:06I think it'll just probably be called the
14:08Sir Jamie Leslie road eventually
14:10Have you checked on the Sir Jamie Leslie road?
14:12It's got a ring to it hasn't it?
14:14The day I'll be looking for stolen cars
14:20Viatles involving drug supply
14:22But also probably not take my eye off the ball
14:24With viatles which I've got some form of defects with them
14:28Sometimes you do go from the high octane kind of stuff
14:31To then sitting looking at the tread depth of a front offside tyre
14:35I don't know what's going on with this car up in front
14:54But it's got a brake light out
14:56And it looks like it's got something hanging off the bottom of it
14:59It could come flying off at any point
15:01Damage someone else's car
15:03I think you're a member of the public
15:05Terrible condition that
15:06And we're going to have to give him a stop
15:33Hello Sir
15:35Hello Sir
15:36How are you?
15:37Yeah
15:38You alright?
15:39Quite late
15:40You've got a problem with your light
15:41But also I think your heating manifold under the front of here
15:45Kind of scraping along the ground
15:47See all under this?
15:48Yeah
15:49It's going to get ripped off that
15:50I could do it today that I had a shift to do
15:53And tomorrow morning I have a going to my office
15:56Okay
15:57Unfortunately you cannot drive the car in that condition
16:03Because it's dangerous
16:04What I want you to do
16:06Is I'm going to follow you around here
16:08Where I need to do a proper inspection of your vehicle
16:10So turn left into here
16:12See ya
16:13Can you see ya?
16:14Can you see ya?
16:46What I do is just put it on this kerb, just reverse back and put it on this kerb.
16:55Doesn't sound great, like, does it?
16:57Sounds like you know when someone's got long nails and they've dragged them down a chalkboard.
17:01I mean, I've got tinnitus anyway, but it's even worse with that.
17:07That's not quite the position I was expecting to have parked it on the kerb.
17:11OK.
17:12Well, you wouldn't pass your test.
17:17I'm going to conduct an inspection here, if you're OK, just to make sure that we've got snow that made at fault.
17:22Let's have a look at this.
17:30We've got loose bits all over this.
17:32It's not great, mate.
17:34Got totally worn brake pads.
17:37Looks like there's fluid coming out of them.
17:39That's why your brakes are screeching.
17:43It's a rust bullet, this.
17:50I can't allow you to drive that on the road, sir, like that.
17:53The vehicle will be prohibited from being used.
17:55You can get it transported to the garage on the back of the lorry.
18:00Once it's fixed, then you can drive it.
18:04I work long shift.
18:05Aye.
18:06For going to your shift, you'll have to get a taxi or get a bus.
18:10It's very expensive to go through.
18:15It's medicine.
18:15It is expensive, but it's much cheaper than you going into the back of someone because you can't stop.
18:21You've got to put a price on your safety.
18:23Or the safety of other people.
18:31So, can I just get your signature?
18:32Just sign there.
18:34Name the car.
18:34There you go.
18:46Don't drive the vehicle, okay?
18:48I'm too.
18:49Until them defects are sorted.
18:54Right, take care of yourself.
18:56You can just slap me on the backside.
19:00This must be a little reward for prohibiting these cars.
19:04You've got a duty of care to yourself and other road users.
19:19You know how to make sure that your car's in good working order and his wasn't.
19:23No wonder he wears headphones around his neck.
19:25The sound of the screeching of the brakes.
19:28The sound of the heat manifold dragging along the ground.
19:31Do your head in.
19:32On to the next one.
19:34Look at that.
19:53So is this your dog? Is he some sort of, like, social media?
19:57He's a cracker man. He's great. I love him.
19:59Where did you get him from, Guy?
20:01He came from Mauritius. We went on holiday there,
20:03and he basically for two weeks didn't leave us alone.
20:05It took us three days from getting back to decide that we wanted to adopt him.
20:09So we got in touch with a charity and got him flown over.
20:11I'd be quite happy if somebody came and scooped me up from Newcastle
20:15and just took me to Mauritius.
20:18Taking the lead from Sergeant Glenn Robson is PC Mark Crammond.
20:23You ready for a drive now?
20:35Right on, mate.
20:40We're heading down to the South Shoes area now.
20:42We're target really high-risk drivers,
20:43people who pose the greatest risk to members of the public.
20:46A good shift for me is if we take someone dangerous off the roads.
20:49I'd much like to try and prevent stuff from happening in the first place,
20:52and then having to deal with the aftermath.
21:04Try this one, mate.
21:05It's a little Ford car that thinks it's a Ferrari.
21:14This vehicle, the Eisen makes the tailgate,
21:16and he likes to travel at excess speed.
21:18It's a real pet here to mine, that tailgating.
21:21It's aggressive. It's bullying.
21:23We've done a check on it, and it's coming back,
21:31and it's only registered and tried to a female,
21:33and it's a male driver.
21:37We'll have a little chat with him.
21:38We'll have a little bit more.
22:05ROLL UP! ROLL UP!
22:11Come and get your bad drivers.
22:14What are they doing?
22:16It's two for one on silly speeders.
22:20And look out for bargains that fell off the back of a lorry.
22:26Be quick!
22:30Everything must go.
22:33ROLL UP!
22:39This vehicle is a mix to tailgate and he likes to travel at excess speed.
22:42And it's only registered and tried to a female and it's a male driver.
22:46On the A189 near Newcastle, Glenn and Mark are stalking a tailgating driver.
22:52We'll have a little chat with him.
22:54Hello mate, do you want to just knock the engine off and just come and jump in the backyard?
23:08What a quick car.
23:14There you go, grab a seat there.
23:15Hey, who worries, man.
23:16Go on my legs and it's not a lie.
23:17Have you got a nice?
23:18Yeah, yeah, go for it, no problem.
23:19Whose car's it?
23:20My friends.
23:21My friends.
23:22My car's a naked.
23:23Right.
23:24I'm sure I drive a new vehicle.
23:25Dead hangry on you, eh.
23:27I've got a rest in ****.
23:30Aye.
23:31Low drive other vehicles is a new.
23:36On my insurance, it's definitely selling my lot of drive other vehicles.
23:42Do you have that?
23:43Er, I should do.
23:44My phone's going to die, like.
23:45I don't suppose you've got a try drink there.
23:46Yep.
23:47You're a lucky day.
23:53I don't know which one it comes under.
23:55Do you know which one it comes under?
24:04It does have it on here, like.
24:06It's on there, is it?
24:07Just the top line there.
24:09Yeah.
24:12I'm glad you had that.
24:13No, no, I made sure before I even set foot in that car.
24:15Yeah.
24:19So why did you drive like it's tool then?
24:22Didn't think I was driving like a tool.
24:23The reason why I've stopped you is you're travelling over the 70-minute-hour speed limit
24:27and you're tailgating other cars, bullying them out the way.
24:29Don't think I was tailgating right.
24:31Well, you were.
24:32Were you leaving two seconds gap?
24:34Felt like it.
24:35I'm sure it didn't for the cars that you were behind.
24:43I want to show you so you can see.
24:44Your car there, the white car?
24:45Yeah, yeah.
24:46Can you see the blue car in front of you?
24:48No.
24:49I'm sorry, I'm a bit too close up.
24:52It's intimidating.
24:53You just kind of drive like that.
24:54Yeah?
24:55Yeah.
24:57The only thing the camera lies about is my weight.
25:02The fact that you're driving over the speed limit, you're all people's bumpers when you drive.
25:06Right.
25:07So like, you're saying that because you can't afford to lose your licence, but yet you're driving like a tool.
25:12That road there, the spine road, is probably the worst road in the fourth area for KSI's.
25:17Killed a serious injury, RTC's.
25:19OK.
25:20Obviously you were travelling in excess speed as well.
25:22It's a recipe for disaster.
25:23OK.
25:24Have you ever been on any driving courses recently?
25:27No.
25:28If I ask you that question in a couple of months' time, the answer's probably going to be yes, because that's what we're going to recommend today.
25:32No, no, I appreciate it.
25:33I wouldn't do.
25:34Right, that's all you're free to go mate.
25:38Yeah.
25:39Yeah, talk about it.
25:41At least you got some juice as well.
25:42Exactly.
25:4320 pence on the pot.
25:46Take care.
25:47Gentlemen.
26:00Tailgating is a real bugbear of mine.
26:03It's like you wouldn't walk down Northumberland Street, you know, inches off someone's heels, because it's rude and it's not good manners.
26:10So I don't know why people feel they need to do it in cars, bullying people out of the way.
26:13I quite like walking close to people and breathing down the neck.
26:16My role, I've been a bit of an admin passenger. I don't mind doing that, but I always prefer driving.
26:29I'm happy to be chauffard.
26:30I'm happy to be chauffard.
26:31The sergeant, the queen, he's been chauffard driven.
26:32The queen?
26:33Oh, the king.
26:34Oh, the king.
26:35Oh, the king.
26:36They don't raise candles though, actually.
26:37Yeah.
26:38I love candles.
26:39Yeah.
26:40I had this big vision, you know, one day that I was going to own a company called the Tyneside Candle Company.
26:41Right.
26:42And all the candles were going to be named after locations along the coastline around
26:47Northumberland.
26:48With the unique smell for each one.
26:49Well I was thinking if you could have a name, well in the
27:08Northumberland with a unique smell for each one well I was thinking if you could
27:12do like North Shields and it smells of fish but if there's a nice one for the
27:16walls then it could smell like cement
27:20it's just a car parked up at the side of the road which had to like
27:50the lads in it and I've just done a quick check on it and it goes back to two

28:38roundabout the mayhem continues as the driver makes a reckless right turn
28:46before overtaking a van on the wrong side of the road narrowly avoiding a
28:51collision with an oncoming car
28:53as officers try to close the gap the driver pushes the vehicle to its limits
29:00and loses control hurtling up a grass verge

30:21We're working with the Southern team for the shift to target motorcycle disorder.
30:26So we'll shout up on the radio channel just to let them know to deal with it.
30:38Well, that'll be further down.
30:41Oh, there it is, my champion.
30:44We'll just find somewhere appropriate and request the vehicle to stop.
