00:00:11of this hugely successful event good morning to you back home 6am just passed on the east
00:00:18coast of Australia it's just gone 3 p.m. on a scorching Sunday afternoon here about 20
00:00:24minutes out of the center of Austin City the capital of the state of Texas and they have
00:00:30responded in kind to the Australian
00:00:37support to car parks are full went for a quick wander around just after qualifying there's just
00:00:44an awesome electric atmosphere here so our fifth event of 2013 this is the circuit condensed from
00:00:51the Formula One circuit so it's now three point six eight kilometres with a couple of very exciting
00:00:56sweepers in it turn two's a ripper and so is 16 17 and 18 and look how complex it is from three down
00:01:02there through turn 11 extraordinary very tough on brakes in fact in the top five when it comes to
00:01:09brake stress super smooth the smoothest track we go to bar the curbs which are pretty brutal and
00:01:15tire wear here has been nothing like we originally thought great crowd in attendance lots of locals
00:01:19lots of expat Aussies and lots of Aussies have made the trip across the Pacific story so far three
00:01:25out of four poles to Jamie Winkup Fabian Coulthard the other two out of two wins to Winkup as well
00:01:33ladies and gentlemen please rise and remain standing and turn your attention to the podium or video
00:01:40screens as the color guard of the University of Texas presents the flags of Australia and the United States

00:07:13on the final day of the austin 400
00:07:21and what a sight the observation tower they're standing guard over this circuit which will soon
00:07:27be attacked by 28 v8 supercars our four manufacturers holden ford nissan and mercedes currently it's
00:07:3589 degrees fahrenheit translates to about 32 degrees celsius and that's the championship point
00:07:43score after 14 races jamie wing cup leads the way he's got a lock on position one for the afternoon so
00:07:51we've already had two qualifying sessions to determine the grids for races 15 and 16 and
00:07:58wing cup has claimed pole in both in fact he'll have his teammate alongside him for this one craig
00:08:03lounge and he'll have fabian coulthard next to him for our second race on the basis of having
00:08:09completed 16 of those qualifying sessions so far this year you look at the numbers we're only up to
00:08:15race 15 but jamie wing cup now with eight pole positions that's an extraordinary strike rate so
00:08:20he's grabbed half of them so far and that's key for him because he's been well able this year and in
00:08:27years gone by to convert that into either race wins or podiums mark and already
00:08:32with five race wins he's clear of fabian coulthard has had two race wins and it's very telling what
00:08:38he's done in western australia recently and what he's now doing here at the moment absolutely we said
00:08:42yesterday that his performance was as good as we've ever seen he had some dramas with the starts
00:08:47last year crop on i reckon his starts are better at the moment yesterday's start especially the second
00:08:52one he and craig lounge could not have made a more equal start between those two red bull cars
00:09:10check out the fusso starting grid now for race number 15 of the championship series and jamie wing cup
00:09:15starts again from the pole position it's an all red bull racing australia front row lockout from three two
00:09:21podiums yesterday for fabian coulthard lockwood racing mark winterbottom is the first of the
00:09:25forwards for pepsi max and then what a great job rick kelly jack daniels racing in the nissan and rick
00:09:30will be battling with jonathan webb and then it's his teammate shane van gisberg and jason bright good
00:09:34to see him up there he's got great tire stock today todd kelly the second of the jd nissans in there
00:09:40and from position number 10 it'll be garth tander great to see the whole racing team in amongst it and that
00:09:44was a season best qualifier for todd kelly in the jack daniels racing nissan up in ninth as we move
00:09:51our way through midfield david wall wilson security racing has the frenchman alex prema in his second
00:09:56year of v8 supercars next to him main game debut for chas most at just 21 years of age he is a superstar
00:10:02of the future made his arrival of the v8 big stage if you like at our last event in wa tony dalberto
00:10:09team high flex that's russell engel the enforcer he likes to go hard in this sport and he's got
00:10:16that reputation he's been around for more than 520 races now davy reynolds and alex davidson and then
00:10:24murrow engel the sp tools racing erebus motorsport mercedes amg e63 has tim blanchard next to him
00:10:33on board here with james courtney and remember again if you weren't watching our coverage yesterday
00:10:39compulsory pit stop required in this race and the race to come later on today and the window
00:10:45opens for that opportunity to change tires lap 10 and beyond some people yesterday chose to
00:10:51change all four wheels and tires some were changing two rears only some were changing the loaded side
00:10:56of the car two only so we'll see how that strategy play runs out today guys the teams have traveled a
00:11:03long way to be here but make no mistake this is not a holiday brad jones you don't often see with the
00:11:07fun face off and the game face on but he just pulled the team together his crew and gave them a great
00:11:12rev up about how important today is and how close they are to doing something really good here on this
00:11:16circuit yeah it's a great point barrettes because this is a very important race baby you call that
00:11:23he qualified pole position yesterday he made a bad start and he put himself too far back
00:11:28and you've got to get off the line in these cars they're very high power small tires
00:11:33they're hard to get away and if he gets a good start he can put some pressure on his pace in the race
00:11:40was very good he's just got to get up and attack these red ball cars
00:11:49that's mark dutton with his back to us just calling jamie win cup into the precise location that he
00:11:54needs if he doesn't want to give a millimeter away at the start of this race
00:12:02it's an instant climb when they get off the line 24 and a half meters of elevation up to turn one and
00:12:08then it drops away roughly 20 meters as well it's damien white the general manager of motorsport for v8
00:12:16supercars he will have control of the start medical car slots in behind us the view from mark
00:12:23green flag and the big question today will be can they stop this relentless charge of jamie wincup who
00:12:35gets away well winter bottom tries to shoot through the middle and winter bottom is putting pressure on
00:12:42wincup straight away winter bottom got the best start of the front group for sure
00:12:48wow down the oil he got caught well just lost two spots fabian called that will go into third spot from there
00:12:58that really hurt lounge he slipped up on that oil there there was a lot of oil soak on the road
00:13:03and it's dropped him back into position four murrow engel by the way was stopped for a long time on the starting line
00:13:10he finally did get away in the mercedes
00:13:12what a great shot as they snaked down to turn 11 and it's on winter bottom's trying to get down the
00:13:20inside of winkup we saw the contact of the drama between these two guys in new zealand and we see
00:13:25this often mark winter bottom knows that if you're going to get past jamie wincup you have to do it
00:13:31early but right now he's got more pressing matters in the name of fabian coulthard good job mark
00:13:36winter bottom he hung onto it then it was sliding wildly but coulthard's got the incentive up the
00:13:40inside they swap paint momentarily let's see what happens when they run side by side here and fabian
00:13:45had to yield through the fast right hander but winter bottom three quarters back had a lot of
00:13:51oversteer in the mid-quarter and he stayed with it remember the tires are cold the brakes are cold
00:13:57everybody's finding their feet understanding the balance and now as temps and pressures build lounges is
00:14:02coming back and this always happens the guys battle that hard that it makes winkup's job easy
00:14:07winkup has now got five or six car lengths gap to this battle for second position
00:14:13so first time around the order jamie winkup mark winter bottom clavian cool part one two three
00:14:19great clowns started second in fourth and it's rick kelly jonathan webb garth tander jason bright
00:14:27shane van gisbergen and james courtney making up our ten
00:14:30rick kelly was under threat from jonathan webb as they came under the straight but he held position
00:14:35all the way up to turn one so that's good stays in that mix of cars that are battling for third fourth
00:14:41fifth et cetera ripper part of the circuit turns three four five and six down to the modified part
00:14:48of the circuit the national circuit where they go snaking through seven eight nine ten and then
00:14:56rejoin the track proper at eleven on board now with winter bottom that's baby and right behind
00:15:01just have a look at the way these guys go about this is a couple of different lines
00:15:05in this complex middle section of the track this is where called that almost got by last lap there's a
00:15:11great opportunity down the inside here and winter bottom covers he blocks him winter bottom needs to
00:15:18make sure that he doesn't lose this spot now because fabian probably hasn't got any better pace at this
00:15:26part of the race he needs to hold his position what a difference a start makes mark winter bottom getting
00:15:32away well racing well through the first several corners it's put him in track position now and
00:15:39many of the guys will tell you that their race pace isn't too bad in the front half of the field relative
00:15:43to those at the very front but very often they lose out for track position so now winter bottom's
00:15:49got it he's 0.8 of a second behind wind cup and he's got to try and close down that margin that
00:15:54everybody gave to wind cup in the opening lap
00:15:59it's like the fastest lap of the race at one minute 36.3 as they now start to work turn two
00:16:05up shifting fourth to fifth in the right hand here at two building pace staying with fifth gear until they
00:16:12get further down the hill then it's fourth then ultimately back to third as it tightens up and
00:16:18a mistake a big mistake there for wind cup and that's allowed winter bottom to get right with him
00:16:23so jamie had a moment as he tried to climb the curbs down there and the fourth falcon is right on the
00:16:28back of the gm holton commodore product this is on this is going to be great winter bottom's got to use
00:16:36his head now he's got to go around this next double right complex and down the inside at the left-hander
00:16:44he's got to do this in the spot we've seen so much overtaking this is the area it's just a little bit
00:16:48too far back kelly's staying with that group as well he's just in behind lounge there at the moment
00:16:55there's the two battle groups inside the ford performance racing garage bottom right red bull racing
00:17:00australian top right adrian burgess mark dutton james small engineer for mark winter bottom and
00:17:05tim edwards team principal was in the background there as well point three officially is the
00:17:10computer margin on timing between wind cup and winter bottom they're exiting turn 19. surprisingly
00:17:16uphill in the run to turn 20 as they come back to greet us on the pit straight here is the replay of
00:17:20the start well mark winter bottom had a look in the middle here but then he decides to stick left
00:17:26you're riding with him on the right hand side if there wasn't a car in the way he'd have led them
00:17:31to turn one he had a ripper start and bad luck for craig lounge at the top of the crest there
00:17:36with that oil slick and the concrete dust over it and flicked the rear of the car out this is the
00:17:41little mistake that you spoke about it was the second bobble so the car caught the curb on the exit and it
00:17:47flicked him wide it bounced him off the race line and he immediately lost that two or three car length
00:17:52cushion that he had from mark winter bottom and winter bottom looks aggressive today he's got the
00:17:57car working better for sure and he's feeding this at jamie wind cup as they come off the national
00:18:02circuit back to the group circuit a mistake here for winter bottom this opens up a big opportunity for
00:18:07winter bottom and he gets down the inside and makes it stick so does fabian cultar win cup goes one to
00:18:14three winter bottom is your new leader great stuff great racing fabian cultar took that opportunity filled
00:18:20the gap and that was a good move by winter bottom to take the lead it's mark winter bottom's 32nd
00:18:27birthday tomorrow he's already getting messages back home from australia because of the time difference
00:18:32but this is what he wants he hasn't won a race in the v8 supercars for exactly 12 months
00:18:38matty are texan fans getting into v8 supercars well you should have heard the roar when mark
00:18:42winter bottom got that done they are into it and they're here in big numbers today they're loving it
00:18:47it leads by 0.4 of a second now over fabian cultar what a start wing cup and lounge on the front row of
00:18:54the grid three laps in they're now positions three and four he's got pace look at the fans they're
00:19:01loving it for fans are digging this the margin is exactly 0.3 of a second cool target the fastest lap
00:19:07of the race but quickly eclipsed by scotty mclaughlin back in 13 for 135.3 if you're waking up to your v8
00:19:16supercars back home on this workday monday well i hope you're wide awake now stay with us this one's really on
00:19:28scorching sunday afternoon here in austin texas as we welcome you back to race 15 of the championship
00:19:35five laps in now six laps in and there has been another change in the ad break because jamie winkup
00:19:42has been rounded up and passed by his teammate craig lounge the orders were from mark dutton who's
00:19:49jamie's engineer said to him don't hold up our teammate if he's got better pace let him through and that's
00:19:56exactly what's happened so the pace has fallen away from our pole sitter winner bottom leads by 0.3 of a
00:20:01second over fabian cool thought allowances now trying to pull them back in and winter bottom had
00:20:06tremendous pace a couple of laps ago but all of a sudden some of that's evaporated and cool thought
00:20:11is very very close here to being able to mount a challenge for the lead of the race because talking
00:20:16in the break that's an extraordinary performance for jack daniels racing and nissan if you'd said to
00:20:22rick kelly at the launch of that nissan team at flemington the home of the melbourne cup at the
00:20:27beginning of the season that he would be racing jamie winkup the rating champion and here's that
00:20:31replay for the pass between the teammates he would have said no way in the fifth event of the year
00:20:36they're in amongst it that's great for the category well not only that neil have a look three
00:20:40manufacturers in the top five now when you see jamie winkup uncharacteristically losing a bit of
00:20:45pace at this stage of the race thought i'd ask roland dane you get some feedback for us mate on his drama
00:20:50probably something to do with the fact he said he had a long paddle going to the grid which didn't feel
00:20:54100 so i don't think it's terrible but it's just enough that it's so competitive that it just
00:20:59probably takes the edge off he made a little error in three four five on the second or third lap and
00:21:05he's probably being conservative and for those at home what that means while saying a long pedal when
00:21:08he puts his foot on the pedal it doesn't it's not there the pressure's not there where he needs it
00:21:12it's down further and when you're looking for hundreds of an inch hundreds of a second i'm sorry
00:21:17uh very very critical pedal needs to be where it needs to be and mark we were talking earlier in the
00:21:22day about brake stress around here already this ranks amongst the top five circuits in terms of
00:21:27brake temperature heat and wear it's very hard on the brakes and a lot of drivers last night talking
00:21:31about front brake fade and rear brakes therefore overpowering the balance of the car under brakes
00:21:37now the fastest lap of the race meantime craig allowance look at how he's brought that leading
00:21:41two cars back in touch with his front bumper so he's done a 35-0 he was half a second quicker on
00:21:47the last lap than winterbottom and coulthard so he's right back in touch with these guys it's cooled
00:21:52down for a moment between first and second but perhaps just for a moment and that last lap was
00:21:57the quickest lap again so he's gone back to back a little bit of a dice here for jonathan webb who
00:22:01sneaks on the inside of rick kelly so jonno webb now moves up rick was just struggling to try and hold on
00:22:08to jamie winkup it's the top three we're starting to put away a bit in coming
00:22:16it's a good job by jonathan webb then because rick saw him coming oh scott pie's gone around at the top
00:22:22of the hill that's between turns one and two he was looking for an adventure free weekend after all the
00:22:27troubles in tasmania and western australia so this is david wall contact oh that was awkward that could
00:22:34have resulted in a roll for the wilson security car that's a big hit probably some reasonable damage
00:22:40to both of those cars and probably if you look at the blame of that one it's probably a 50 51
00:22:49david was up there far enough scott was very wide so visibility was hard on that style of corner
00:22:55and contact the inevitable when you get in that far at turn one
00:23:02only one ford has stood on the top step at the podium this far this season that was will davison
00:23:08can mark winterbottom join him again today
00:23:15that's our mega wall for the austin 400
00:23:18bit of activity in pit lane remember this is a compulsory pit stop race they must come in at some stage
00:23:24race control yet to be activated
00:23:29mark winterbottom 0.35 of the second lead over fabian coulthard the pace has come back to jamie
00:23:36winkup who's collected the fastest lap of the race now 134.8 so he's now back in the top four picture
00:23:45and we're not very far away from the window opening for those that choose to grab a stop now if they feel
00:23:51like they're being held up by traffic i'll try and get tires on and look for the undercut opportunity
00:23:57so this battle pack that we're looking at here involves jason bright now here's mark winterbottom
00:24:01pepsi max ford falcon doing some motocross work there over the top of the curb so he's the race leader by
00:24:060.3 of a second
00:24:11so winterbottom coulta then lounge wind cup web kelly this is mclaughlin who's in the 13th position at
00:24:16the moment and mclaughlin looking at the rear wing of james moffett's nissan alber in the norton
00:24:21colors so now window opens and the corresponding pit stops occur
00:24:25so you run in winterbottom wind cup tander three of the contenders you can see that there's also
00:24:32mclaughlin caruso david wall in as well watch for whether they do rears or loaded side or all four
00:24:45yesterday stops fpr will one second slow with a triple eight
00:24:50he may be able to jump him in the stop
00:24:52get it on get it off

00:25:01okay out out all the way out all the way out
00:25:04there you go that's just chaotic couldn't have been worse he's ended up behind garth tander
00:25:09in leading the race he'll pop out of that group now fifth or thereabouts or sixth
00:25:15remember there's a heap of them that haven't stopped yet two thirds of the field yet to stop
00:25:20and uh it's going to be uh the scene under that helm it's going to be one of extreme frustration
00:25:28we said it at the very start he knew the only opportunity really you get when jamie wing
00:25:32cups in this kind of form is to take him down early but now he's taking himself down
00:25:41the fourth performance racing crew couldn't get that right rear off and they couldn't get
00:25:46the car away little mistakes add up to big time deficits in this game in for courtard in for
00:25:53lounge and look at the way that fabian threw that lockwood entry in there he actually slid
00:25:57through the pit lane entry full-blown sprint car speedway style how's rick kelly
00:26:03he made a great a good game i reckon if we made that pit lane entry just about a meter wider they'd
00:26:10race themselves through there okay this is critical alex crema coming in he's got some loose body work on
00:26:23the left hand side rear panel of jiu-jitsu car but let's watch these now rick kelly's made a very
00:26:31efficient stop here he's coming out not very far in behind in behind in behind in behind
00:26:38telling you what to do craig boy so it's in behind
00:26:47i don't know how much craig wanted to do what he was being told to do but he has to
00:26:51so kelly made a gain he's actually closer to the back of that group of cars that he was and there's
00:26:56still a lot of vehicles there's nine of them yet to take their compulsory tire stop so a little bit
00:27:02of shuffling's gone on here the notable one among them is mark winter bottom that was a disaster that
00:27:07right rear couldn't get it on and made the decision to change to a different wheel tire unit got it
00:27:14back on there's only a couple of seconds delay but that's a long time in this business at the moment
00:27:20so that's your effective top three now
00:27:32they've had their dramas in this area had problems in adelaide and then mark had another
00:27:38problem having to clear david wall who was on the approach at brad jones racing
00:27:42wall meantime has done the fastest lap of the race correction he's done the fastest time to the
00:27:47first sector on this lap of the race jason bright's the leader now bright's notorious for running long
00:27:54when he doesn't have track position so don't expect to see jason rushing in in a hurry yeah and i
00:27:58think the interesting dynamic you just saw mark widder body shaking his head as he's going down
00:28:02the pit lane and that's a dynamic for a race driver that you don't want to be in i mean the level of
00:28:07concentration required particularly in a place like this you don't need to be hot-headed and frustrated
00:28:12about things that happen in the pit lane you're 100 right larko those those things when he worked that
00:28:18hard he made a brilliant start he put pressure on wink up he fired down the inside he was in the lead
00:28:25you lead the motor race you come in and all of a sudden here's a safety car out so to go out now
00:28:30but all of a sudden after a pit stop you are back in the field you're going to be five or six positions
00:28:36away from where you rightfully should be now our timing and scoring's gone yellow so they're about
00:28:43to deploy the chrysler petters stp safety car there's debris on the racetrack we saw a shot before
00:28:49of one of the benzes and the rear under tray the diffuser was hanging on that car awkwardly and i
00:28:54saw some other bits as well look at that so that doesn't look good and uh it's about to be a pass
00:29:00under a yellow flag there which will be a drama from who's ever car we're looking from guys it is so
00:29:06tight at the top of this competition and i'm just with tim edwards tim that uh pit stop not what you
00:29:10needed today no i mean obviously um cross-threaded will not we don't know why you know we've had far
00:29:16too many of them this year and it's just not acceptable so obviously we'll have to review
00:29:20it all after the race again but yeah i don't know what i just don't know what to say it's just
00:29:24unacceptable thanks man tell by the tone of tim's voice that he's gutted and he's right it is
00:29:31unacceptable they'll debrief heavily on that there's a little bit of time to our next event
00:29:35when we head to australia's top end at darwin beautiful weather in the winter up there
00:29:38larka you're on the spot for the jason bright stop i want to show you this stop here now you
00:29:43see two guys being used here one two third guy holding a spare tire just in case or if they flat
00:29:49spot a tire they can throw it on the front now at half time or in between the two races i want
00:29:54to show you a little bit more about how political that timing is and when we compare it against those
00:30:00blokes up the pit lane the red bull guys who use three blokes on the back wheel quite clever when
00:30:05you're only changing two ties just remember normally you have a guy on each corner exactly
00:30:10like oh really well done that was a good effort and those stops from the red bull guys are the best
00:30:17in the category stay with us what a great site you are high above turn one looking down along the main
00:30:25straightaway there the totem pole on the right hand side a feature of american circuits there's a couple of
00:30:30around here that's the hill up there at turn one one of the favorite spots for the fans they get to
00:30:36see the fall away as they go down towards down turn two and towards three four five and six with the
00:30:42cars left right left right at maximum pace so that's a little bit of the under tray at the rear of the
00:30:47car it hangs down beneath the rear bumper and it's right in the middle of the track so it hasn't been
00:30:52removed at this stage that's the reason for the safety car intervention so at the moment rick kelly
00:31:02as a result of a very efficient pit stop made again there together with the fact that winter bottom
00:31:09obviously had that slip up in the pit lane
00:31:11it's the view from david reynolds car who's he's just giving tim's late a little bit of a help along
00:31:21there to remove that body work that's hanging off that under tray and there it is it just saved
00:31:27a pit stop well done dave yeah it's very sportsman like well just with brad jones at the moment of
00:31:35course the big question brad is can fabian hold out lounge well i hope he can i he he certainly did an
00:31:40excellent job yesterday with the gears behind him and held him out and i think if you can do that
00:31:44you've probably got as good a chance as any holding uh louncy out today so fingers crossed good stuff
00:31:49we look forward to seeing this me too so the safety car now is reducing speed
00:31:55back to 80 kilometers an hour 50 miles per hour bringing the field under control no more weaving
00:32:01to warm tires no more accelerating and braking to try and keep brake temperature the cars form a single file
00:32:07for the moment they're under the control of the safety car and then the safety car peels in and
00:32:11fabian coulthard has the call until the safety car is in the lane
00:32:18now what this does do is it gives mark winterbottom at least an opportunity to fight a condensed field
00:32:22but he has lost critical track position
00:32:26so they're starting to get itchy now as the safety car makes its way towards the pit lane entry
00:32:32there he is car's gone in call comes on the race management channel from our race director tim
00:32:38schenken fabian coulthard has the call
00:32:43he's a cool customer and he's showing a very cool head this year and that was excellent from fabian
00:32:50coulthard he's shooting away from craig lownds up to turn one so he will have no pressure at all
00:32:56on this restart lap but there is pressure for rick kelly and garth tander side by side almost making
00:33:04contact it leaves tander hung out wide video crisscross because the nissan couldn't turn it in quick
00:33:10enough the lanking straight line speed is he had to drive right up the inside in the gutter which makes
00:33:16the corner radius so awkward for him he just understeered wide on cold tires he just couldn't
00:33:21get the car to turn and he's lost a couple spots and it was a bad restart i mean rick's restart then
00:33:26he was four or five car lengths from the car in front so the great restart was called the red bull
00:33:32restarts weren't that great but rick kelly's was really bad graphic isn't it looking at those cars
00:33:39leap over that curve so nice jump for coulthard just earned himself a little breather for the first half of
00:33:45this lap it means that he can focus forward and not be quite so concerned about what's going on in his
00:33:50periphery you'll be catching glimpses of that red bull hold in the background at the moment
00:33:56so jonathan webb good jump here to fourth position in fact he's got a margin over garth tander now
00:34:02scott mclaughlin was held out wide then that was awkward for him
00:34:05tander looking much stronger today than yesterday in the whole racing team commodore in position five
00:34:21had the whole family in western australia for the big wally world tour so he's decided literally to
00:34:26just jump straight in and out of the united states he's not doing any holidaying or any other
00:34:30sightseeing in this part of the woods many of the drivers are lots of them will go to the coke 600
00:34:36lots of them will go to the 97th running of the indianapolis 500. look at van gisberg and up the
00:34:41inside of turn one done on jason bright and mclaughlin's held out wide on the oil there as well now he's
00:34:48off on the verge of the track on the astro turn so winter bottom gets that slot back
00:34:56james courtney tucked in in 12. there's a bit of angst brewing in this little pack right now screens
00:35:02down 10th back to about 16th they're all grouped together you watch this for airtime of a v8 supercar
00:35:08more than 1300 kilograms hits the curb takes off and then huge impact and load on landing what amazes
00:35:20me about the shot is that wherever you focus whether it's at the front of the car the tire
00:35:25the rear suspension whatever everywhere you see extreme stress it's hard to imagine how engineers
00:35:31can calculate all the right sort of loads and how to build things in the appropriate way to deal with
00:35:37that so well wide and that's costly there for rick kelly got escorted he got escorted so winter bottom
00:35:43was down the inside now you may not have been able to get a turn properly anyway but winter bottom
00:35:48and kelly then battling now van gisbergen to turn 19 putting pressure on rick has to cover
00:35:55the second last corner he's moved it across this is going to be bad down the inside
00:36:01good move so rick's caught up now in these guys
00:36:03and that mistake from the restart has cost it still way to go
00:36:17got trouble written all over it they're all zigzagging everywhere it was eric pendant asking
00:36:22rick just to settle down relax they've got a long history they know each other well those guys but
00:36:26it's hard to ask somebody to relax when he's under maximum attack
00:36:29that's probably the most crucial job of the day is smashing up this dry ice to go in the car this
00:36:35will ultimately keep the drivers cooler and it's so important at the moment they were fried yesterday
00:36:39so hopefully this is going to keep uh fabian and uh and bridey nice and cool
00:36:44swing by grab that we remarked yesterday in the middles of the two races just how smashed up the drivers
00:37:01were and how they're so used to driving in extreme heat under extreme conditions but there was something
00:37:07very different about this place and it's the workload as well that was contact pretty significant
00:37:11contact before they get to the braking point at turn one that's 240 k's and as a result of the
00:37:15zigzagging that i made reference to rick kelly has now been shown the bad sportsmanship flag for
00:37:21blocking so if he does it again that means he'll pop a black flag yeah you remember boys in yesterday's
00:37:26race rick kelly actually ran out of fuel now remember everyone's got you know they fill their cars up
00:37:30we know it's a hundred kilometer race why did he run out of field i assume they've got a little bit
00:37:34of extra fuel dialed into that engine to give it the little bit of power that they're looking for
00:37:38so to make the end of the race i'm suspecting they've probably taken a little fuel out of it
00:37:42and he seems to be coming under a lot more fire in a straight line and that's a hard day out
00:37:48yeah i i agree like the only problem with this one is that he put himself back too far and and the
00:37:55restart wasn't good enough and then he's under fire from too many of those guys so he did it to himself
00:38:00he's back at eighth now the car's probably fast enough to be fourth or fifth he was in front of
00:38:05jonathan webb and we put a nice move on him that was a good bit of racing but he probably deserves
00:38:11to be up further focus your attention the box on the right here just how much work there is for the
00:38:18driver on this race track just constant wheel work oh it's a little moment there also for will davison
00:38:25you've only got to catch the curb the wrong way and you find yourself a bucket of trouble
00:38:29he's got more trouble this time he got him scott has a look to the right
00:38:36and also in the mix there is james courtney so you can't get involved in too much of that
00:38:41at the moment this is just look at the bottleneck of cars involved in this it's courtney
00:38:46mclaughlin davison caruso mostard moffett todd kelly david reynolds i mean it's a roll call
00:38:54sorry about that you think there's a bit of sensory overload that's what you're out there for
00:38:58buddy how you're having to go mate you're doing great job did you hear that richard hallway he said
00:39:03sorry about that he said well that's what you're out there for mate that's exactly right he's a great
00:39:07young talent he's out there to race get on with it fantastic now this is big big news here fabian
00:39:15under investigation for failing to maintain speed at the start of the race
00:39:19now he leads at the moment he's just done the fastest lap of the race he's got 0.8 of a second
00:39:25margin fabian coulthard and his group at brad jones racing for this lockwood entry are going to have
00:39:31to argue their case at the end because he may have jumped early
00:39:38there's always something going on in fact it's just underneath the area where we're working in the
00:39:43circuit of the america's administrative area hit the circuit of the america's building
00:39:46administration and i've seen a never-ending stream stream of team managers rolling their eyes as we
00:39:52go down to talk to competitors not timon you leave with a smile no it's not happy days down there for
00:40:00much of the time 52 degrees is the track temperature which is 125 degrees fahrenheit
00:40:08it's hot and this is what the drivers talked about last night hot humid high work rate
00:40:14the constant wheel work was like i said at the top of the show everybody got a real wake-up call
00:40:21about the job they had to do yesterday in race 13 all the smiles and the high-fiving and isn't it great
00:40:26to visit america soon gave way to who this is hard work exactly we said in a 95 second lap one minute 35
00:40:3510 seconds of that lap is in a straight line so 87 percent of the lap you're turning the car so you're
00:40:43working hard it's hot conditions and the battles are on the thing that makes it intense is this sort
00:40:50of stuff as dave brennell tires down the inside of alex davidson what this intensity does it keeps the
00:40:56heart rate up and that's wild you've seen some of the best racing so far that's tim slade right in
00:41:03behind them they've been battling so david and alex are battling the 17th and 18th at the moment they're
00:41:09behind brink kelly they're effectively teammates those cars built by the same organization at
00:41:15board performance racing they're in the same garage last night i spoke to both of the drivers
00:41:21and they said both cars are doing exactly the same thing which in their opinion was the wrong thing
00:41:25they couldn't get connected to the track they had two very different balance conditions in different
00:41:30sections of the racetrack that made the cars awkward to drive and it doesn't look like they've
00:41:34been able to get totally on top of those problems mark winterbottom has certainly made a gain today
00:41:38he looks certainly certainly quicker than he did yesterday
00:41:41but giving that time away in the pit stop is an absolute disaster for him
00:41:47so jamie wincup on board with him at the moment
00:41:53watch how much goes on here just trying to make sure that you keep that car guided to the precise
00:41:58location around this racetrack and that's a great view of the never-ending right-hander that we've
00:42:05been talking about 16 through to 17 through to 18 now back onto 19 you mentioned that it's another
00:42:12sneaky incline it is it's a 10 meter rise from the bottom of 19 to the top turn 20 before i hit the
00:42:18straight to bring those front and rear bars down in db
00:42:21so that call there from mark dutton is just to put some more compliance in the car allow it to just
00:42:29roll around a little more front and rear be a little easier on the time not slide the car as much
00:42:35it's actually been nice recovery here for wincup who at one stage looked like he was falling faster than
00:42:41the australian dollar or falling asleep in the team
00:42:48eventually roland will go and wake him up now that'll be hey well done
00:42:54well it is only morning back home
00:42:59isn't it interesting look those top three cars they have dominated the podium
00:43:04all weekend today it's a different order but there's a question mark hanging over fabian
00:43:09cool card remember and lounges craig lounge in position two is reeling him in slowly but surely
00:43:15just in this phase of the race car 14 under investigation at the restart maintaining speed
00:43:28there's a six laps to go
00:43:30one lap 22 out of 27 so time-wise the gap is 0.8 of a second but as you say
00:43:37from her lounge is chipping away so fabian had
00:43:43his first win in a v8 supercar race three down in tasmania
00:43:51that was a great final for him and for brad jones racing
00:44:01this here is chas lost okay buddy five to go keep it up he's top 15 again remarkable entry to this sport
00:44:15at the top level buddy just with brad jones and fabian under investigation for not maintaining speed
00:44:21on the restart brad much in it yeah well i think there's a little bit in it we had a miscommunication
00:44:25here and phil thought they were saying that it was clear um that the safety car was in pit lane
00:44:31it wasn't so we got on the rail told him straight away he got it back down to 80 well i don't know
00:44:35that he went over 80 but he he maintained his speed and he ran it a long way as to not get any advantage
00:44:41out of it so while i feel that it's you know technically it's blind ball i think that what fabian
00:44:47did was balance the whole thing up and i don't think you sort of restart i don't think he got
00:44:52any advantage out of it so we'll see what happens after the race thanks brad
00:44:57quietly confident would you yeah i think there was a communication issue there brad is accepting
00:45:05that there was some drama attached to it but what he's actually saying is that the benefit
00:45:11and at any advantage was negated by fabian coming back so overall if you go back into the stewards and
00:45:18you say listen what's the intention of the rule did i get an advantage no did i bridge the rule
00:45:25probably yes so it'll be interesting to see what they say
00:45:34drive-through penalty for car 34 alex premer for spinning wheels in the middle of the pit stop
00:45:39so the frenchman is going to have to tour the pit lane as he sees that black flag
00:45:50currently 21st
00:45:53so called that lounge wing cup web tender then gisberg and winter bottom down the inside
00:45:58david wall big break locker just almost got to davidson with that one so he got it done
00:46:05a lot less grip on the inside of the road up there plus the fact that they're turning and
00:46:11it's got a rise change there so it's got more of it but the hill profile is worse on the inside
00:46:16that's why they slightly drive to the right
00:46:17so that kind of lock up for that length of time front brakes on david wall's car very likely to be
00:46:26put a flat spot on the tire he's in 19 position at the moment tim slade behind him then alex
00:46:31premer will get the black flag this lap and there's alex making a move down the inside cleanly on the
00:46:36tim slade lee holdsworth in behind i don't know why i've been trying to do that because you're about to
00:46:43travel through the pit lane and you actually slow both of you up when you get on board now
00:46:47with chas mostard who's attacking michael caruso from 14th stay here because this is this never-ending
00:46:55right-hander who delivered on the promise in western australia after an impressive
00:47:01test at morgan park privately before they went to the western australian round of the championship
00:47:06where chas made his v8 supercar debut for dick johnson racing and wilson security and he got
00:47:13into the top 10 which was the prediction of mark winter bottom he's done a terrific job mate three
00:47:19laps ago just keep working on him and he's caught totally in a nissan sandwich you've got caruso in
00:47:25front moffat and kelly behind i think jason bright just got rick kelly at the top of the hill as he
00:47:31went out of frame there or did he no it's ongoing it's actually yet to be resolved it's back the other
00:47:38way again now so rick's grabbed the spot so these two have been just see-sawing the last half a lap
00:47:44it is motocross land that's van gisbergen having a dive at tander and he gets it done so that puts
00:47:58van gisbergen up to fifth he's got this real backhand speed in these races we saw him in the mix in the
00:48:05final laps yesterday backhand speed then when he got hit by tander backhand damage that was morse code
00:48:12for don't forget i'm here don't make a mistake might have been a return of serve maybe you think
00:48:22like that don't you that's your mentality isn't it that was your bonus operandi wasn't it
00:48:27one second is the margin at the moment he's got him covered
00:48:38question mark hangs they'll have to argue this one

00:49:35will davis has been quiet in this race guys he's still in 12th at the moment
00:49:41inside the bunker at brad jones racing and that is chad reed famous australian motocross rider james
00:49:48courtney's going to be spending some time with him the little rest period he has in the states
00:49:53he's also going to defend that is james courtney time with his friend dario friend kitty up at the
00:49:58indy 500 and uh bell island detroit and the indy car moves on to the next round there a few of the boys
00:50:05are off on different tours jamie wincup's doing vegas he's also going out to the grand canyon and off to
00:50:11san francisco so they're all spreading in different directions some of them are off to disneyland disney world
00:50:16it's all going on but darwin is our next event i tried to make the point a little earlier
00:50:20we love going up there in the australian river it's a great escape whoa that was a great escape
00:50:25that's not an escape it's not over yet he missed it he missed it and there's traffic approaching too
00:50:31he almost ended up in that barrier on the entry to pit lane
00:50:37that was out of control so mostert's made contact caruso right out sideways trying to get into the pits
00:50:44there's more biffing and barging still on this is like dodging car stuff he's like a battery
00:50:48well todd kelly's car yesterday got beaten from the post in the back end of the car was quite a mess at
00:50:54the end of the day it's not looking as bad today as it did yesterday but it was beaten
00:51:01it's a great sexier road isn't it look at the body language of the cars let's move around they slide
00:51:05they run up on the curb great car control our cars look very very good through there they're very dynamic
00:51:12for big heavy cars they've got high grip level it's a 1400 odd kilos car driver that equates to
00:51:21just a little under 3 100 pounds it's a lot of mass to control i love that sequence of corners through
00:51:2916 17 18 because the drivers have really got the cars dancing on the grip edge through there
00:51:36twice he has finished third to the red bull commodores already this weekend
00:51:43with a year fabian call time stands above the net
00:51:51loud second and wink up the confusion there mate but awesome awesome pace very good work
00:51:58great job win number three this season for fabian
00:52:02big weekend for him in tasmania got the first win there then he backed it up

00:52:37great to see and it's interesting because the the domination of podium positions continues to be a red
00:52:44bull brad jones racing story so let's run you through the results provisionally rick kelly the leading
00:52:49nissan yet again james courtney inside the top 10 mark winterbottom after making that early charge and
00:52:56grabbing the lead ends up in seventh chas moston forced his way into 13th alex davidson there in
00:53:0318th with timmy slade the best of the erebus motorsport mercedes amgs and scott pie in 25th so
00:53:11fabian coulthard by just under a second over craig lounge and that puts lounge into second on the
00:53:17championship behind win cup so the same three guys on the podium as it was yesterday but in
00:53:22different order now brad jones racing and the lockwood commodore salute the checkered flag
00:53:30for race 15 of the championship we started the first race here on pole
00:53:38and we need the history books for being the first australian v8 supercar driver to grab
00:53:43pole position at this circuit what a terrific weekend for all three of these guys
00:53:52the techno autosport pair of weather van gisburgh and inside the top five together
00:54:03baby koolthar now third win of the year third of his career
00:54:07a really popular guy and we've said it time and time again scafie that once you get a driver who's
00:54:25comfortable with his car and can push it to its limits within that comfort zone you get results and
00:54:32that's exactly what's happening to fabian this year no doubt and what's what's really groundbreaking
00:54:37about it matt is when you've had your first win there's a level of confidence that he has now he is
00:54:41driving very very well a level of confidence capy he looks really comfortable at the moment fabian
00:54:47congratulations third win of the year you are really in a groove this year yeah look it was a
00:54:51pretty good race you know we hustled pretty hard there at the start and the boys did a fantastic
00:54:56pitch up to get us to jump frosty uh in the stop so awesome battle you know craig kept me honest the
00:55:01whole race but you know had enough gap and we're able to manage it and you know awesome for the
00:55:05boys so lockwood awesome sponsors guys at bjr what can i ask for a gutsy win well done fabian enjoy
00:55:10it of course craig lounge he probably wasn't the start that you wanted out there today but boy
00:55:15you kept the pressure on fabian yeah look at brett's it was a great race we had a really good
00:55:19car the start wasn't uh that well i got a lot of wheel spin had to clutch it and it died and we got
00:55:23going so uh but fabian did a great job obviously uh you know they got a bit of speed in that
00:55:28race but uh look you know him's a break so i'm being consistent i hope i can get second in the
00:55:32last race but i just got to wish chili a happy birthday for yesterday i forgot to do it time

00:55:42boy consistent weekend you've been on the podium all the way through today just just didn't seem to
00:55:46have the speed that you needed uh yeah not quite we um obviously we need to keep keep making move
00:55:51forward we um we didn't move forward anywhere near as quick as the other guys so um full credit to
00:55:56them they did a great job we'll um we'll make a tune-up for the next one bring on race 16 rc podium
00:56:01i'm happy with that cheers gonna grab a quick chat with i know you're frustrated mate that was a great
00:56:06start great first lap attacking hard and uh pit stop we saw you shaking head mate you're obviously
00:56:11disappointed it's happened a few times mate but um yeah it's frustrating you know i think we got the
00:56:15car better then and the go-on tire that went on was my race one tire so we put the wrong tire on
00:56:21anyway in the end as well so a couple of um a couple of errors in that stop but uh i'm frustrated
00:56:27so what you know we'll work on it we'll let you have your team debrief now pete if you just come
00:56:30with me i'll just show you a little bit about how this works this is mark's car here so if you look
00:56:35rear wheel this nut's now undone you can see there's a safety little safety thing there now if we turn
00:56:40around and look at the the gun you see the little dick in the middle of the gun there that little spike
00:56:45so when they engage that on there that pushes that in which will release the nut now when they go to put
00:56:49the new wheel on here's a wheel here now remembering these are a control wheel and a
00:56:54control nut so it's not like fpr have done something different here this isn't a different
00:56:58wheel or anything that component over there the hub that it screws to is also controlling
00:57:03specification but i'm not sure about material so it's possible i don't know maybe they've got a
00:57:07different material there that is expanding and contracting at different rates but when you look
00:57:11inside here you can see this nut via these little spikes here is captured in the wheel so it sits in
00:57:17there but what's happening with them continually is that first thread which i can certainly point
00:57:22to right there that first thread is not engaging properly on the first thread on the hub and if
00:57:28that doesn't engage straight away because this is an aluminium it strips and burrs and gets all
00:57:33horrible and it just won't go on right so you've got to pull it off and whack another wheel on and
00:57:37as you always say larko in this sport in this pit lane those little things like that add up to
00:57:43disaster in terms of results so here's the championship point score win cup still leads
00:57:49it's 122 the difference but the difference is that craig lounge has now moved up into second
00:57:54and the spread from first to tenth points wise is 446 back to jonathan wedd up to the podium we go with mark
