Many animals have successfully been able to use prosthetics to move around after an accident or medical problem. Here are 5 of them:

Number 5 - Motala, the elephant. Back in 1999, while Motala was working to move trees in the jungles of Thailand, she stumbled upon a land mine. Unfortunately, the land mine blew off one of her front legs which had to be amputated below her knee. However, thanks to the group, Friends of the Asian Elephant, a temporary prosthetic leg was devised in 2006.

Number 4 - Gamera, the African tortoise. After Gamera's leg was amputated due to an injury, doctor's at Washington State University replaced the tortoise's missing limb with a moving wheel.

Number 3 - Lemon Pie, the dog. He was discovered in a trash bin, very close to death in Mexico. Lemon Pie's two front paws had been horrifically cut off by gang members. The animal was brought to an animal shelter, Canine Miracles, where he was fitted for prosthetic legs.

Number 2 - Fuji, the female dolphin. Residing in an aquarium in Japan, she lost 75% of her tail due to a mysterious illness in 2002. However, researchers at the Okinawa Aquarium in Japan installed an artificial rubber tail using metal and plastic screws giving her another chance to swim as naturally as possible.

Number 1 - A Hungarian stork with a broken beak was given a chance at survival with new prosthetic upper beak. According to a BBC report, the hour-long operation was performed at the Hortobagy Birds' Hospital near Budapest. Dental prostheses specialist Tamas Kothay built a new beak made out of 'synthetic resin' for the stork.
