00:07 Didn't have the best summer but still kind of a big surprise here.

00:11 I'd say just to see him get cut right out of the gate.

00:17 feel as though the tape he put out this summer, he's gonna get through waivers.

00:21 I know Phil Perry reported though some people even in the building called it

00:25 a shocker.

00:25 So this was not something I think that had been discussed leading up to it.

00:28 I think this is something that sort of just happened today over the last two days

00:32 coming away from that preseason game.

00:34 He's gonna be back though.

00:35 He's going to be back.

00:36 We saw them do this with Brian Horner in 2021.

00:38 They did it with the kicker position in 2020.

00:41 It's essentially Belichick manipulating the new roster rules and

00:45 the practice squad elevations cuz they'll get Bailey's happy on the practice squad.

00:49 They'll elevate him for the first two weeks and

00:51 then it buys you a raw spot those first two weeks.

00:53 Then they'll have to figure out what to do, but it's the NFL, guys get hurt.

00:57 They'll sort it all out that now that's assuming Zappy gets through waivers.

01:00 That's what's different with the Hoyer situation where he was outright released.

01:04 But again, they must feel based off what they saw this summer that teams aren't

01:08 gonna wanna claim Hoyer.

01:09 If they do, they're fine taking the risk and losing him.

01:13 And they feel it's worth it to open up that extra roster spot.

01:16 But I don't think he's gonna be claimed.

01:18 I think he'll be back.

01:20 We'll be laughing about this in four weeks when he's back on the active roster.

01:24 I think he stays as the backup.

01:26 If he's not or if they want to just add another veteran to the room,

01:30 maybe on the practice squad.

01:31 I look at Colt McCoy as a guy who got released by the Cardinals in that role

01:36 Brian Hoyer was in last year.

01:38 And by the way, Brian Hoyer is not coming to save him this time.

01:39 He's still on the Raiders.

01:41 Brian Hoyer, sorry, Colt McCoy is a guy I would look at.

01:44 The other guy I wonder about is AJ McCarron.

01:47 Played for Bill O'Brien in Houston, comes out of Alabama,

01:50 has that Nick Saban connection.

01:53 He turned down NFL offers back in March to go play in the XFL,

01:57 put things on tape, maybe show his skill set a little bit more.

02:01 The Patriots have been interested in him in the past.

02:04 So he's a guy I wonder if they would call.

02:06 But regardless, I think ultimately Bailey Zappi ends up a New England

02:11 Patriot at this time tomorrow after waivers have cleared.

02:14 He might be on the practice squad, but I think he'll be back.

03:06 he's comfortable with losing them, right?

03:08 And that's probably where we said it wasn't a great summer.

03:13 Granted, it was with the backups against Tennessee, but

03:15 it wasn't a great performance from Zappi.

03:17 Looks like they might be comfortable letting him go here, but

03:21 he'll probably clear waivers, you'd imagine.

03:23 And they just get him right back on the practice squad.

03:25 And then in a few weeks, he's back on the active roster, and

03:28 we're just back to where we were two hours ago, right?
